Honestly, the game is kind of ass. The planning phase got all the focus, but the stages are bland, the gunplay is awful, and the AI is dumb. I get that the fans of this game adore the planning features, but every other part of this game is lackluster. SWAT 4 is a much better tactical shooter from this era. It has no planning phase but you have way more tools in your disposal to deal with the opposition besides just walk and shoot.

Este es el primer R6 que he jugado y me dio duro, como leí en otra reseña si vienes acostumbrado de FPS como CS, COD o demás te van a estampar contra la pared al primer minuto, de 1 o con suerte 2 balazos quedas fuera. Lo jugué en dificultad veterano y para empezar recomiendo realizar todos los niveles de entrenamiento ya que serán una buena base aunque no explican algunas mecánicas.
La historia te la cuentan en las 2 únicas cinemáticas que tiene el juego, normal ya que su fuerte es el gameplay, tendremos una increíble variedad de armas, herramientas o trajes para elegir según el tipo de misión, de las cuáles la campaña tiene 15 en total. Luego de elegir tu armamento y distribuir a tu equipo, tu mayor enemigo serán las planificaciones (estrategias) y mantener la coordinación de tu equipo para estas mismas, dependerá de ti aprender como crear y ordenar las planificaciones ya que no hay tutorial para eso y diría que es en lo que más gastas tiempo, o puedes cargar un plan predeterminado que te ofrecen para cada misión y mayormente funcionan.
Ahora el problema es que aún con una planificación a la que le metiste todo el fin de semana, la misión puede resultar una carnicería y diría que es culpa de la IA, los enemigos son bestias con una visión impecable y un daño severo, y en contraste tu equipo varía entre ser un grupo de elite o un montón de inútiles que se vuelven ciegos con algunos enemigos, cometen fuego amigo o incluso dejan de avanzar si uno de ellos se buguea en una esquina, algo que puede joderte toda la planificación y tener que reiniciar, lo bueno es que durante la partida puedes cambiar entre tus equipos para gestionar mejor la operación, pero eso no basta cuando la misión consiste en el sigilo y si algo sale mal explota todo o matan al rehén de turno, sin mencionar que tu precisión depende mucho del movimiento, eso sí el juego tiene por defecto activado el autoapuntado lo que puede salvarte en varias ocasiones si lo prefieres.
Todo esto que mencione no es más que mi experiencia, tiene errores y grandes aciertos, al final termine disfrutando el juego, gráficamente se ve decente, los escenarios no están nada mal y es divertido seguir las planificaciones con tu escuadrón, la satisfacción de que una misión sea completada es glorioso. También cuenta con modos extra con algunos mapas nuevos donde podemos ir en solitario, rescatar rehenes, etc. En cuanto a la expansión Athena Sword no la pude probar ya que ni siquiera supe como ejecutarla y la verdad tuve suficiente con la campaña en sí.
Te lo recomiendo si te interesan los FPS tácticos, según leí este fue el último R6 que le dio tanta importancia a este apartado de planificación y táctica, lo que no me sorprende después de ver las mecánicas que tiene, espero poder continuar la saga y juzgar por mi cuenta.
P.D. La csm Ubisoft algún juego tuyo que traduzcas al español alguna vez, en las guías pueden encontrar alguna solución para eso, olvide mencionar que antes de jugar sería bueno que fueran a opciones para ver y configurar algunas teclas 👻.
I am really frustated with this game, it is unbeliviable that I had to paid for it, I was doing researching for hours how to solve the proble, so as far as I know the menu resolutions it is locked on 640x480 so doesn't allow me to start the mission cause the mouse cursor goes off-screen just in the place where I have to click in the button thing to start the mission. I understand it is a 20 years old game but that doesn't justified that customers have to practically jump trough hoops to make it work, also keep in mind we still have pay for it, If I'm paying for a producto as a costumer I hope everything is set up for my comfort and satisfaction, I tried every solution that I could find and I just couldn't achieve anything satisfactorial.
Look, this game looks great, it seems pretty interesting for my taste, even I was hopin to spend hours and hours of playing but I can't enjoy it at all because it is really annoying to play cause some devs couldn't figure out how to make the game to work properly on modern systems, and it is ridicolous cause I can prove with other games example that despite they are very old games they had receive a proper support to run on nowadays systems like Doom, Quake, Half life 1 and 2, even their expansions like Opposing force and Blue Shift that wasn't developed by Valve at all and these are games that were developed from the almost same age that Rainbox six 3 was released isn't it? and they're still playable today... in any case I must to noticed that I would have problems with this thing when I realized this games was published by Ubisoft

Absolutely one of my top games ever! It's brutal but is incredibly satisfying to coordinate attacks and efficiently clear levels. This and SWAT 4 are the best of the best for a reason! I love the planning aspect of the single player but this game really shines if you are able to work with a few friends as the AI can quickly get killed by the incredibly accurate enemies.

R6 RS is an amazing game. One thing I'd say though is that the teammate AI is practically useless on Elite difficulty, so it's best to Lone Wolf the large part of the campaign and use smoke grenades for larger rooms and hostage situations. Another thing I'd say is that the enemy AI can sometimes react within 200ms and pop you in the head with a pistol from 200 yards away and sometimes they miss at closer ranges, Maybe those inconsistencies are because certain terrorists have different hidden stats. That's what it seems like to me anyway. An amazing game overall, but looking back at all these classics, I'd have to say Rogue Spear still remains the best out of all the R6 games. Raven Shield is a 9/10 for me. Hope this review helps you if you try tackle the missions on Elite, because many of the hostage situations and complex level designs can make it very tricky without the use of smoke grenades and heartbeat sensor.

Rainbow Six Raven Shield is just OG Rainbow Six was done way back in the days before Ubisoft got their dirty hands with the franchise and casualized.
我这电脑比较老旧，所以目前只能选老游戏玩，我用的还是CRT显示器，也正适合玩《Rainbow Six 3: RAVEN SHIELD》这样的老游戏。于是我就挑中了它玩。刚玩的时候第一次启动游戏是全屏显示的，第二次之后打开却都是窗口模式，还没有全屏和窗口的切换选项，窗口化是没法好好地玩的。于是我就尝试用桌面图标启动游戏，竟然能全屏显示了，问题解决。所以玩这款游戏不要用游戏页面的“开始游戏”启动游戏，而要用桌面图标启动才能正常游玩。
这游戏我玩了两遍，老游戏的画面简约而鲜明，又有年代感，所以玩的很愉快。由于此游戏挨一枪就死，幸好官方提供了控制台秘籍，使我这种观光客游戏玩家得以完整地体验游戏，必须给予好评。

Hands on the best Rainbow Six series game of all time. For tactical shooter fans this is a game you must have. It got good AI, atmosphere, and surprisingly good graphics for an old game. Custom maps are also nice, which there are plenty to download. I just love this game. I played in my youth Rainbow Six Rogue Spear maybe 1000 hours and this game got same realistic shooting experience too. Forget Siege crap and buy this game.

Man this games design is so good. A detailed brief before every mission which includes multiple sources of intel, info on public opinion and an overview of each level. The pre planning options are insane too, not only for execution of each mission but loadout creation for your squads is surprisingly deep with heaps of weapons for a 2003 game. The pre planning aspect of the game is so good you can technically play the whole game through a spectators POV and watch your work unfold. I gave it a go for the first mission but pre planning and looking at the map only helps so much without the actual context of the level, so I just used the pre-sets each time. When the game is working and each squad is executing their tasks this game feels unreal. Breaching the warehouse in the airport level with all 3 squads at once was the first time I said, "woah okay that's awesome". Also it's a game that I thought would have bad blockage issues but somehow in 03' they figured out how to never get stuck on your buddies ever. Unfortunately these cool mechanics are heavily weighed down by the double edged sword which is the games AI and difficulty.
The game being as good and realistic as it is, in my opinion is it's biggest downfall. Everyone is one shot kill, and a lot of the shooting is reaction shooting and having better reflexes than the AI, which is realistic. But the AI at the same time doesn't react to their comrades dying, so you just slowly peek every corner and kill guys in front of their boys and they don't react. Additionally the hostage taking levels almost need to be cheesed. The second you are spotted by an enemy they instantly shoot the hostage. But then you can slow peek every corner, clear the entire room, and so long as you don't enter line of sight with the hostage taker, he doesn't kill the hostage which instantly ends the level. So it basically encourages you to drop a smoke at the door of every hostage room and kill everyone from inside the smoke, not entirely realistic right. I tried playing the game without just cheesing with smoke grenades the whole time but it was near impossible to not have hostages instantly killed. Skill issue maybe but the game is ahead of it's time but dated at the same time. Also all of the pre-planning and pre mission briefs don't really equate to much of a story except for the last third of the game it somewhat comes together.
Overall, cool premise, initial impressions were promising, had a super cool loadout creator, mission planning and squad gameplay. I really did enjoy my time until I kept failing the hostage sections. There's a non existent story, the AI is awesome when it works and hostage levels heavily require smoke cheese.

This game is a perfect example of Tactical CQB, and I’m having so much fun playing it.
Even though there are many modern CQB games like Ready or Not, Ground Branch, and Zero Hour, this game is still worth playing. The tactical CQB core is very strong, and I absolutely love it. You can also mod the game to make it look more modern with additional gear, armor, weapons, attachments, and more.

[*] Slow-paced tactical gameplay. This is not a fast-paced tactical shooter. Like I said, this game focuses on realistic CQB training. You can apply real CQB modules here, checking corners, and clearing rooms are essential. Miss a corner and, well… you and your team are dead unless you want to play like a Rambo and rush in shooting everything.
[*] Strong realism. Even though this game is old, I’m impressed by how realistic it is. If you get shot in a non-vital area, you can survive, but you’ll limp, move slowly, can’t run, and need a medkit to fully recover. Get shot in a vital area especially the head and you’re instantly dead.
[*] Map variety. You can play the campaign or custom maps where you can set the number of tangos. With mods, you get even more modes like bot matches, TDM, VIP escort, and more.
[*] Plenty of weapon and gear choices. The game gives you freedom to choose your teammates’ weapons and attachments. The vanilla weapons are a bit outdated, but still fine. You can also bring various gear like heartbeat sensors, thermal binoculars, and more.
[*] Orders & gear system. You can give orders to teammates such as breaching doors, clearing rooms, or throwing grenades. The gear system is very fun especially the snake cam, which lets you check a room before breaching by crouching and placing the camera under the door.
[*] Teammate classes & squad system. You can choose who to bring on each mission. Want a squad full of snipers or machine gunners? Go for it. You can control up to 3 squads, with 4 members each.
[*] Planning phase. For an old game, the planning phase is amazing. It helps you control multiple squads while playing mainly as your main squad. If you don’t want to use it, that’s fine you can still finish the campaign with just one squad.
[*] Customizable UI & solid AI. You can customize the UI however you want turn everything off for realism or keep only what you need. Teammate AI performs very well in combat, though they sometimes bug out at doors.

My favorite rainbow six game. Many beloved maps that appear in future games are in R63, I mean, the first level is the oil refinery. The graphics are what you'd expect for a game this old, but it still looks good, and I can't say that I've seen any textures or models that stick out. Highly recommend trying it out.

There is a Steam guide with a single-download Community Remaster that modernizes the game into a high quality tactical shooter with all the best community content being played by the dedicated RvS community. It runs out of the box on modern hardware, plays very nicely, and looks pretty, bringing the best of modern shooters while retaining the retro tactical design.
However, this review is not for tactical shooter fans. This is for my fellow retro-enthusiasts.
If you want the retro experience on modern hardware, you need to put in a little more legwork. PCGamingWiki will be your friend. I'll outline the steps I took in order: There is no need to patch Raven Shield or Athena Sword, both are already up to date in the steam installation. Manually install Iron Wrath, then install OpenRVS. Adjust FOV in OpenRVS.ini to 106, which retains the vanilla vertical FOV but expands the Horizontal FOV for widescreen. Install the missing sounds, and the Optimization Patch.
Then, install dgVoodoo2 and adjust settings to your liking, and inject it into your Rainbow Six 3 folder. [b]Unfortunately, using dgVoodoo2 is not optional, you MUST do it.[/b] The planning phase, a core gameplay element of Rainbow Six 3, has ENORMOUS input latency if you do not use dgVoodoo2, making the game unplayable. The dgVoodoo2 wrapper will bring the latency down to about 0.5s or so, which is manageable, if irritating. I have found noone who knows of any way to eliminate the latency completely on modern hardware. It is what it is.
There is a guide on how to use dgVoodoo2 for this game on Steam, its title advertises greater resolutions (1080p and 4k), but I will go through it here because I recommend different settings for a clean retro experience. Download it from github and extract it anywhere (I extracted it to a "dgVoodoo2" folder I created in Documents). Once you've extracted dgVoodoo2 to a folder, open it and run dgVoodooCpl.exe. When you run dgVoodooCpl.exe, what you are doing is editing dgVoodoo.conf, which you will ultimately move to your Rainbow Six folder with a number of .dll files which, together, will run the game at your preferred settings.
So, double click dgVoodooCpl.exe and have a look at your settings options. You do not need to change much! Under the general tab, set the "Adapter to use" to your graphics card and "Full Screen Output" to your display. Under appearance, set Scaling Mode to "Stretched, Keep Aspect Ratio" (this, when combined with unforced resolution, will prevent menus and pre-rendered cutscenes from being distorted). Then, under the DirectX tab, turn up the amount of VRAM for dgVoodoo Virtual 3D Accelerated Card, and turn on "Fast video memory access" (I'm not sure how necessary this step is honestly, but it doesn't hurt). I leave texture filtering and and anti-aliasing "App-driven," meaning it will use the vanilla texture-filtering and anti-aliasing (no AA, maybe light texture filtering but not much). Keeping the resolution unforced ensures correct aspect ratio for menus and cutscenes, which will render in 800x600, while you can set the gameplay resolution using in-game options to whatever you prefer (I set it to 720p--I don't really see a point in going higher on my screen). Turn off the setting at the bottom for the dgVoodoo watermark, and you're done. Click Apply, click OK.
To inject this into Rainbow Six 3, first, in your dgVoodoo2 folder, go to \MS\x86 and copy D3D8.dll, D3Dlmm.dll, and DDraw.dll [b]BUT NOT D3D9.dll,[/b] and paste them into the "system" folder under Rainbow Six 3 Gold. D3D9.dll will cause problems if you copy it into the folder [b]DON'T[/b] copy it. Finally, copy dgVoodoo.conf into the same system folder, and you're good to go. If you want to test if it's working, turn on the dgVoodoo watermark using dgVoodooCpl.exe, overwrite dgVoodoo.conf in the system folder with the new dgVoodoo.conf generated by dgVoodooCpl.exe, and then run the game again. You should see an ugly watermark in the bottom right corner of the screen, confirming you are indeed using dgVoodoo2.
[b]YOU ARE ALMOST DONE, BUT THIS NEXT STEP IS REALLY IMPORTANT DO NOT SKIP.[/b] At this point, your mouse sensitivity is all messed up. To fix, go to your Rainbow Six 3 Gold\Save\Profiles folder and edit user.ini. Under, [Engine.PlayerInput], set "MouseSmoothingMode=0". Save and close. Do the same to DefUser.ini in the system folder. Now you can adjust mouse sensitivity to your liking using the in-game options menu, so that everything works. If you do not do this, either your aim will be extremely jerky, or menus will have intolerably low mouse sensitivity. Do this, and everything works great!
Congratulations! You can now play the best Rainbow Six release.
The game is really cool, and is where all the tactical features of the series peaked. Enemies are extremely alert, and one-shot kills are the standard for both terrorists and Rainbow Six operatives. You can plan each mission in detail before executing with up to 3 squads, where you will control the leader of one squad while all others will be controlled by AI (you can switch which squad member you control fluidly throughout the operation). Breach doors, throw tear gas, rescue hostages and defuse bombs--but mostly just get your butt kicked. The game is EXTREMELY hard and will brutalize you, I fully recommend playing on Recruit difficulty for the most enjoyable experience. Maybe you will prefer Lone Wolf Elite gameplay, but to me higher difficulty just incentivizes abusing smoke grenades to keep your squads alive, while lower difficulties open up more gameplay options while still being brutally difficult.
The plot is unimportant to the experience, but I also find it charmingly quaint. Released during the post-9/11 era, you might expect it to have Bush-era GWOT themes, but it instead follows an oddball plot in which descendants of escaped Ustasha (Croatian nazis from WWII) living in Argentina are attempting to capture the Venezuelan oil industry to finance the rebuilding of fascism worldwide. Nazis always make for good, easy baddies. At any rate, you probably won't be thinking much about why the terrorists are doing terror when you're planning out your tactical hostage rescues, but hopefully that explains the red armbands for you.
The shooting may feel a little clunky at first, and losing your AI controlled squad YET AGAIN because they don't know how to throw a flash bang through a door will make you slam your head against the wall (Pro-Tip: Have them wait for a go code at each door you want to put a flash bang through, and then manually control them to do it yourself; if you let them do it, they'll just mess it up, which is why everyone abuses smoke grenades instead). But, if you persist, it really is an awesome and irreplaceable tactical shooter experience from a different era, and the peak of what Rainbow Six originally set out to do. Check it out!

Rainbow Six 3 remains the pinnacle tactical experience. With modding (see below) you can add many modern features and content that continue to make this game relevant. Its not only excellent early 00s nostalgia, it is a no-nonsense tactical shooter. Rainbow Six 3 is THE definitive Rainbow Six game, and probably the definitive Tom Clancy game. You will notice that the Tom Clancy brand name becomes watered down shortly after this game's release in 2003.
Mods I recommend:
RavenShield 2.0: If you want to maintain the game's original content while adding some basic features (ironshights) and some graphical touch-ups, this is the best mod to start with.
Supply Drop: Recommended if you've beaten the original campaign and want more content.

C'est sans nul doute le dernier jeu tactique à tendance réaliste de la licence Rainbow Six. à l'époque j'étais complètement passé à coté de l'aspect planification parce que je pense que je voulais simplement buter des terroristes et faire panpan boum boum (bon d'un autre coté j'avais 12 ans) et donc je jouais à R6 comme on joue à Call of Duty.
Maintenant que j'ai 35 ans et du poil au menton, je me suis penché sur le mode de planification d'action que l'on retrouve avant chaque début de mission. On peut facilement passer à coté et lancer l'action directement mais je vous garantie que c'est bel et bien un jeu dans le jeu. On a même en fait quatre façons de faire les missions .
1 : Planifier l'intégralité de la mission pour vos équipes en traçant les trajets, ouvertures de portes, lancés de grenade....etc . une fois fait vous pouvez commencer à manger votre popcorn en appréciant le déroulé de la mission et revenir à la phase de planning si quelque chose se passe mal afin de rectifier le tir
2. faire tout ce que j'ai cité en point 1 mais cette fois ci vous pouvez incarner n'importe quel membre de l'unité en temps réel et donc participer à votre propre plan avec vos équipiers
3. Ne pas faire de planification, incarner un membre de l'unité et leur donner des ordres un peu comme dans la série des SWAT ou le plus récent Ready or Not. Même si il n'y a finalement que peu d'ordres à donner, je peux vous dire qu'à l'époque c'était déjà ouf.
4. Faire ce que je faisais quand j'avais 12 ans, à savoir ne rien planifier, incarner un membre de l'unité, ne pas diriger d'hommes et foncer solo. Si on meurt on a la possibilité d'incarner un des membres restés au point de déploiement et ainsi de suite à chaque mort .
Les missions sont variées et l'emplacement des ennemis aléatoires. Ce que j'adore c'est que lorsque vous planifiez vos missions, vous connaitrez la map par coeur et il en va de même pour les déplacements de vos unités car la moindre erreur se paie vite et vous serez donc amenés à revenir plusieurs fois sur la phase de planification afin de la modifier jusqu'à ce que ça passe.

Les mods aideront à faire passer quelques mécaniques vieillissantes et je vous garantie que le jeu vaut le coup. Comme disait mon grand père : "on n'en fait plus des comme ça maintenant"
More complex experience than the rainbow six vegas game, older graphics, but for those who would like deeper swat complexity like multiple teams to handle in an operation, and choosing the soldiers you want for specific tactical warfare roles, but that complexity way higher than the rainbow six vegas games could make the game more frustrating for those who want it simple... but If youlike more complex that one is better

To modernize it and add more sights + weapons I highly recommend the mod mentioned, but overall the game has aged well. The team AI can be a bit stupid if you don't learn to utilize them properly or use floor plans so learn that

Reform on me as we go into a old and great Tom Clancy game. This is back when his games were good and not some invincible super soldier. This game makes me want to be SWAT/SRT evertime I play it.

In terms of tactical mechanics, [i]Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® 3 Gold[/i] delivers wondrously as it allows players to customize their element's equipment and operators for each mission. What was most impressive was the Planning Room, allowing players to see the layout of their mission location and map out the movements and actions of multiple elements with little complication.
With that being said, the in-game gameplay is underwhelming and borderline self-sabotaging as the AI (RAINBOW) may not always lock onto enemies, irrespective of whether they are at point-blank range of an assault team or long-range of a sniper team. The AI can be acute and fatal no matter the difficulty, but because enemies are everywhere from roofs, hidden cover, and behind doors, the player and their team will always be at a strict disadvantage as it takes the friendly AI some time to set up a tactical action while enemies roam, lock on, and often fire without triggering their voiceline which can result in the death of half, if not an entire, element if the player does not swiftly intervene. For this reason, Observe Mode consistently shifts between a bad joke and a pyrrhic, nail-biting victory.
It is clear that this product was well-made and variation for the early 2000s and has [b]some[/b] value in contemporary times and modern machines. Still, without rose-tinted glasses or the neglect of the game's roughness, it cannot be easily and realistically recommended to modern consumers of the tactical genre.
While it definitely shows its age, there's still plenty of fun to be found in this game.

A good game despite being quite short. The gameplay is good, and the soundtrack adds a lot to the atmosphere of the game. There’s also a good variety of guns, equipements and maps, making it an enjoyable experience overall.
holy we need to bring these types of games back. bought this a joke and accidentally discovered the best game i've ever played in this genre. extremely tactical but for smooth brains like me, you can still just follow the pre made plans. idek how to explain this, its just an extremely realistic and perfect shooter game. i played with mods i forgot which one but its on moddb, would recommend to anyone. also multiplayer i've heard is great but i have no friends. no nostalgia here, this game is older than me.

Im Gegensatz zu modernen Shootern setzt *Rainbow Six 3* konsequent auf **Realismus und Planung**. Schon ein einziger Treffer kann tödlich sein, und ohne kluge Vorbereitung überlebt man kaum. Vor jedem Einsatz werden die Teams zusammengestellt, Ausrüstung verteilt und Einsatzrouten geplant – was Spannung und Authentizität erzeugt. best tactical fps of all time. a remaster would blow out any newer competition besides other hypothetical remasters of other Tom Clancy IP's (such as splinter cell.) got it on sale for 2 bucks, would spend Nintendo prices for it.
Played this for many hours a long time ago, before it was on Steam. It was one of the major pillars of our LAN parties back then. After all these years, I still come back to play this sometimes. This is peak Rainbow Six, and a largely over-looked timeless classic.

The forced stealth mission at the halfway point completely ruins the game for me. This game is already super ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ buggy and having to do a PERFECT no detection mission just feels like an insult.

To keep it simple, I didn't expect this game to be rather quiet different than it's PS2 version, since it's my first experience with Rainbow Six game. Even with some changes here and there, the game is still enjoyable at best, but rather tense! If you expect an all gunz blazing, this is not the game.
I can bear the jank on this one, but the main menu is the most atrocious going back and fourth because it is rendering at 480p. There's no HD UI/HUD mod for this game, so every elements would often be low-res or stretch.
8/10 would never trust any door again.

meh. i dont get the hype. i found the contemporary 2000s psuedo "realism" pretty bad and uninspired.
i mean for a product of its time its not bad, but i dont think it holds up at all, and theres some INSANE rose tinted nostalgia for this game in the reviews, it really isnt all that.
friendly AI is incredibly moronic and simple, they cant be issued proper commands as individuals, only as a squad, and even then its VERY limited outside of the planning mode ( which is actually good, and i liked it. but its been built upon alot better by doorkickers, who were no doubt inspired by rainbow). they mostly just tail you, maybe save your flank occasionally, and die.
the enemy ai is equally as stupid, except sometimes they turn into flesh automatons and just do 90 to 180 degree flicks where they somehow crossmap fullauto headshot you with an ak, while your "tier 1, top of the line, worlds elite" rainbow operator has arthritis and cant control a burst from an mp5 to save his life, nor move an inch while doing so without drawing the ALI-G silhouette of the enemy. the armor system is also effectively useless, as i have never noticed heavy armor saving me from a 9mm skorpion shot, let alone a rifle cartridge. so the gameplay is hardly anything to write home about, really just a product of its time.
The story and the characters have the same problem as all clancy games. the generic anti terrorist plot (i was surpirsed they used ustaše as the villains though, pretty cool and underutilized balkan setting, which i appreciated) is servicable for its purpose, and it doesnt really need to be much more, what is inexcusable is the poor, terrible execution of the rainbow operators.
The whole premise of rainbow is that its an organization of worlds elite special forces, all of which have unique portraits, personalities and specializations. which are NEVER capitalized on. outside of their bios, these characters never interact with eachother or the world around them, they have no dialogue or banter, no personalities or unique functions, nothing. jagged alliance did it in the 90s, with an even bigger roster of characters, so this isnt a technical limitation. theres no reason ubisoft couldnt do this. especially considering these operators are actually characterized in the books, and it IS an important part of the franchise.
even withnin its own built in parameters all of the subclasses of the operators are BARELY distinct from one another. regular pointman ops are equally effective at tech, demolition and sniping as the specialists themselves (except snipers being bad at cqb) the minor number and speed difference is REALLY negligable, ive never felt like it affecred my gameplay.
when they did finally realise this idea it was in rainbow six siege, where they unfortunately ditched all the old ops in favour of their new quirky ones. now in fairness they started off pretty well for the first few years, but by now its devolved into a crappy hero shooter with characters that arent even special ops soldiers, just some random halfwits with "cool" trinkets and gadgets.
if i had played the game vanilla throughout i wouldnt recommend it at all, but after downloading some gameplay tweaks for the AI and the weapons and armor the game is alot more palletable, but the issues are too deep rooted to fix. its good to play and experience at least once, but i doubt ill be replaying it, i dont hold any nostaliga for it so its not really got anything pulling me back in. im still giving it a negative review, but with a recommendation for the stubborn who want to slam their head against the wall in this trial and error dice roll game.

Great tactical shooter with deep strategy, immersive missions, and plenty of replay value. It offers realistic gameplay and a satisfying mix of planning and action. Some missions can be very challenging, but overcoming them makes the victory even sweeter.

Había crecido con el Black Arrow en el Xbox, y este me trae grandes recuerdos de la infancia por ser prácticamente el mismo juego. Genuinely the best tactical fps shooter on the steam even better than ready or not. Proper team tactics and map planning and with fun maps. The concept of swat/specials forces guys aiming to not kill suspects even if they aggro you during a raid isn't realistic at all and you shouldn't be punished as much as a swat 4 and ready or not does. Get this game instead

Интересный реалистичный шутер с возможностью планирования операции до ее начала: можно задать маршрут отрядов, скорость их передвижения и тд. Также перед каждой миссией ситуация будет освещаться с общей, тактической и психологической стороны (Куча букв для погружения в атмосферу). Так как это реализм, то все падают от пары пуль. Стелс миссии дебильные, я не вывез. К сожалению игра устарела, было бы чудесно увидеть ремастер
