Everyone says it, but the visual atmosphere is wonderful. That's the end of the good things I have to say. They gave up halfway through on the rest of the atmosphere, and the payoff for it is minimal. Terrible endings. Terrible, terrible endings that elaborate on nothing and last all but 30 seconds at most. 10 at the least. Everything from getting in and out of your boat to the constant repetition of the same like 8 hallucinations every time you get freaked out, which is a lot and for very strange reasons considering what doesn't freak Reed out. The combat is super awkward, with intense auto-aim enabled by default, and unfortunately being the best way to play. The 'puzzles' for supernatural detective work are braindead easy, often just following the obvious direction taken. The world is not explorable, as in there is nothing but bullets and medkits to find outside of following and looking for quests, and there aren't many quests all in all. The morality and causality are both very bizarre to the point of having to question the viewpoint of the writers. Finally, this could be an 8-10 hour game doing all quests, but you spend 80% of the game moving pretty slowly, without anything but constant fights with the same 4 enemies to break it up. This is a time sink, and not a satisfying one.
Mr Throgmorton is the only character worth experiencing. The yellow sign makes the mystery almost entirely go away, as it implies this is a big ploy of Hastur, who only wants to eat things and cause destruction. There are practically no likeable characters, and until one of the dlc was added, the KKK was the only active party doing anything to stop cult-adjacent activity, which really puts a bad taste in my mouth. If the Sinking City 2 is open world, actually open world, it might be worth it. They might even actually show some large monstrosities that do something in that one.

The Sinking City ha sido un viaje de lo más extraño y, para ser sincero, una relación de amor-odio. Tiene todo lo que un fan de Lovecraft busca: una atmósfera asfixiante, un diseño artístico dedacente y mecánicas de investigación como el "Palacio Mental" o la búsqueda en archivos que te hacen sentir un detective de verdad, sin que el juego te lleve de la manita. Si te flipa el horror cósmico, Oakmont te atrapa, pero tienes que estar dispuesto a perdonarle mucho.

Porque vamos a ser claros: si no fuera un enfermo de los Mitos de Cthulhu, lo habría mandado a paseo a las cinco horas.

El problema es que el envoltorio es fascinante, pero el "gameplay" puro es como un trabajo de oficina. El combate es tosco, los enemigos aparecen por generación espontánea y están muy limitados; y el diseño de interiores es "copypaste" descarado; entras en diez casas distintas y las diez tienen el mismo pasillo y la misma mesa volcada. Al final, el ciclo de juego se vuelve una rutina: marcar el mapa, ir al sitio, limpiar monstruos clónicos, recoger pistas y repetir. Es una pena que una dirección artística tan potente y unos dilemas morales tan bien escritos se vean lastrados por un sistema de juego que a veces roza lo aburrido. ¿Vale la pena? Sí, pero solo si vienes por la historia y la ambientación, porque como juego de acción, HACE AGUAS por todas partes. Hace aguas ¿Lo pillas? ;)

The Sinking City is a 5.5/10, but if you are looking for a HP Lovecraft game then this is a solid entry in your collection. The Sinking City (TSC) Remastered edition fixes enough of the issues to create a competent, narrative driven detective game within a unique setting.

A little background, the developer Frogwares (the Sherlock Holmes game series) got into a legal dispute with the publisher Nacon over the original TSC. For a while the version of TSC sold on Steam had no post launch support as the developers were completely locked out as they went to court with the publisher. Now the devs are the sole publisher of TSC and this is their upgraded version with all of the post launch fixes and improvements. (and more)

Returning TSC players will be happy to know this upgrade was a big one. Unreal Engine 5 upgrade, ray tracing, 4K textures, new lighting across the map, improved performance, faster loading, enhanced locations, upscaling, improved combat, stability fixes; they did a lot to improve on the original. It is still very much the same game, but the entire experience has been improved so if you enjoyed it before, you're likely to enjoy it more.

It's not the best looking game in the world, but unlike the original there's not really anything graphically to complain about. You can crank up the Ray Tracing and make it look great, but at 4K you would need a pretty decent PC or be willing to put up with the fan noise. NPCs in conversation look good enough, but are very stiff and you can tell there are only so many models they're built off. Weather effects look pretty decent as well although sometimes the in game fog can make the game look washed out. Graphically it's fine, not great, just fine.

The city of Oakmont is a grim place and a great setting for this game. You will get around by boat navigating the flooded streets, the city feels foreboding and menacing like it's watching you as you track down leads. Abandoned homes and businesses line the streets empty, strange outbursts of crazy people and violence occur, the residents of Oakmont have come to accept this as normal; the place will make you feel uneasy. There are places where it over does the dilapidation, (who sleeps next to rotting fish parts?) but overall, they succeeded in creating an ominous setting. I wouldn't be surprised if people listed the setting as one of their favorite aspects of the game.

The problem is the city is inhabited by lifeless NPCs who wander around completely disconnected from the map. They have no schedules; they are placed without much thought and are merely just set dressing. Now you can point a weapon at them and they panic and run, and if a monster gets out onto the street they react appropriately, but that is about the most complex thing I have seen them do. There are scripted events that can happen and can be genuinely creepy, but they are few and far between and do not involve the player at all.

You'll spend much of the game talking to NPCs, gathering evidence and engaging in short bouts of combat. Talking to NPCs is like any other game, except they often use an uncomfortably close-up camera shot which is an odd choice. Combat is improved but as this is mostly a detective game it won't be competing with any shooter on the market, but it's not frustrating and that is all it needs to be.
Now the evidence gathering is both the game's greatest strength and weakness. Frogwares is great with environmental storytelling, it's fun to gather evidence and piece together crime scenes, and it's cool that these puzzles now play out in an open world seamlessly. Connecting evidence in the Mind Palace is still a great way to come to conclusions, and then leaving it to the player to decide what is the correct moral choice makes each decision memorable.

The problem is a lot of it leans heavily on this games version of detective vision called the Mind's Eye. Following footsteps, inspecting items, putting together a sequence of events, finding hidden clues; all of it uses the Mind's Eye which can become stale and tiring by the end of the game. Also annoying is the game's requirement to collect all Key Evidence which doesn't allow for the story to continue without investigating specific items/info, which can make investigation feel like just a storytelling gimmick. Overall, Frogwares' classic investigation mechanics still work in TSC, but frankly are starting to feel pretty thin in 2026.

The story is very Lovecraft. Cults, monsters, horrid dreams, hoodlums, creeping madness, ancient gods, animal human hybrids; it strikes the perfect tone. Throughout the game you will see plenty of winks and nods to the source material it is already working off of. It may not be a "love letter" level of reverence, but it's clear there is a passion for H.P. Lovecraft over at Frogwares. Oh, and it's only about 25-30 hours without the DLC.

IMO this game is for people who want a "Lovecraft Game." There is a decent-sized audience that exists around the weird fiction author's works and they are eager to get their hands on anything that can make them feel immersed in Lovecraft's writings. They will be the ones willing to ignore the game's flaws and appreciate its highlights. Since I am one of them, I recommend it.

Absolutely abysmal experience. I thought i'd love it, seeing as how many mechanics it has really showed themselves to be interesting early on, but every single thing i tried to enjoy got ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over by whatever fever dream the developers designed their system over.

Game tells you infestation locations are good for loot? Nope. it's a waste of all your resources, for loot you can get anywhere.
Game gives you descriptions of where you need to go for quests? look online and find that they sent you to the COMPLETELY WRONG LOCATION despite you following the in-game details that explicitly told you where to go.

How's the sanity mechanic work? well seems to change based on random nonsense, as sometimes monsters set it off, sometimes just being in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ house sets it off! Waste of money. and waste of my time!

Au début c'est sympa. Et au bout d'un moment, les combats foireux, les longues marches pour aller de A à B, où on sait qu'on devra encore se battre contre les trois mêmes ennemis, avant de cliquer sur des indices pour trouver C, ça devient ennuyeux. L'histoire et l'univers ne suffisent plus à motiver. Même si certaines quêtes secondaires valent le coup (en particulier celle donnée par Throgmorton), beaucoup sont du pur remplissage qui tuent le rythme. Mention spéciale à celle où on photographie trois scènes de meurtre pour un policier, on trouve des indices qui lient les trois meurtres et... rien, le policier dit "ok je vais regarder de ce côté" et on ne peut pas savoir la suite. Côté technique, les micro-arrêts typiques des jeux Unrel pas optimisés sont bien présents.
Bref, ayant apprécié les précédents jeux Frogwares, j'ai essayé de m'accrocher, mais là j'y vais à reculons alors j'arrête. Je pense que le jeu aurait été bien meilleur sans les combats, ou beaucoup moins en tout cas.

Дужа крута детективна подорож. Гра відрізняється унікальністю, тому що основною механікою в грі є детективні розслідування. Вам реально доведеться шукати місця на карті, добиратися до цих місць, шукати зачепки та взаємодіяти з ними для складання повної картини того що відбуається. Вам доведеться приймати складні рішення, які в свою чергу можуть впливати на ігровий процес. Атмосфера в грі плотна, але гра все ж таки в першій половині більш приземленна, тоб то прям лютого сюрреалізму немає, але гра дуже цікава. Всі основні та другорядні квести зробленні просто відмінно, історії не банальні, слідкувати за ними та розвязувати їх дуже цікаво. В принципі можу сказати, що гра від початку і до кінця не відпускає напруги, гра цікава, атмосферна, та інригуча. Жалко лише те, що я не почав проходити її раніше.

Great game, atmosphere and narrative once you get used to it, especially the combat dynamics and the character skills. Best way at the beginning is to develop him under the mind side enforcing the detective traits and the endurance to fear/madness. Because you will be surrounded by madness, trust me.
The 2019 version run flawlessly on my Linux system with ProtonGE 10-28 compared to the remastered that is all noise and no substance. The overall image quality in the remastered version is unbearable because we live in a strange era where the obsession for realism is turning exactly to the opposite direction, especially with the Mr. Jensen's ego! :)
As usual, if you like Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, stuff like Alone in The Dark in the 30's, this is the game for you.

Ja, hat mir gefallen und nach 33 Stunden das Ende erreicht. Zu Anfang bin ich nicht recht warm geworden mit dem Spiel.
Wenn ein Spiel eine Minimap braucht, dann dieses.
Warum kann ich nicht einfach in die Karte klicken? Stattdessen den "Marker" über die Karte schieben?
Die Auswahl der Waffen und Items über die Tab-Taste mit dem Rad ist umständlich. Zusätzliche Tasten wären schön.
Ansonsten hat sich das - gerade im einfachen Modus - gut gespielt. Ermitteln, Orte finden und ein paar Monster beseitigen.

I truly enjoyed the game until I got to the end, I'm sorry but that was it? No narration to explain anything Reed went through, the decay of the city why is in that state, why people just walk around do nothing, no rebuilt of the city after the flood? I just see few selling stuff, other hammering, other getting drunk at the bar or crying for help, some random folks shooting and pointing guns at others, a total crap pot but no explanation why and on the top of that Reed seem to have sacrificed himself for nothing? What's the point of all then if there is no hope, no faith, and no redemption? And who is this daughter character, I thought she was human, kept prisoner by this entity, so where she come from, and who are these creatures? What the hell happened to these people? It feels so deliberate not to clues us in and stroy wise felt empty, I did enjoy he search, clues and reconstruction, even if buggy at times, but story telling TSC is a loss for me. I feel so disappointed, I needed closure and see the rebuilding of the city in the end to make sense, but you won't have that and that's why I feel like NOT to recommend this game, unless you just like the shootings and investigating otherwise if you have a heart stay way.

Fantastik ve korku neşriyatlarını seviyorum, ikisi bir araya geldiğinde tadından yenmiyor. Lovecraft evreniyle pandemi döneminde tanıştım, figürleri çok tatmin etmediyse de zihnimde tezâhür eden tablonun akabinde, karanlık ve ciddiyetinden ödün vermeyen atmosferini sevdim. Bu gibi ilgimi cezbeden hususlar hâricinde, geliştiricinin de Sherlock Holmes serisinden tanıdığım ve sevdiğim Frogwares olması beni bu oyunu oynamaya itti. Keşke itmeseydi.

Bana bir oyun gösterin ki, Unreal Engine ile yapılıp muntazam bir optimizasyona sâhip olsun. Bu Unreal Engine denen garâbetin geliştirilmesinde kimlerin şahsen payı var bilmiyorum lâkin; Anadolu'nun ücrâ taşralarında dirseğine kadar dizdiği altın bileziklerinden eklemlerini kımıldatamaz hâle gelmiş, akrabâ & komşu dedikodusu eşliğinde gömdüğü hamur işi ile 1.55 cm - 110 kg dolaylarında tuttuğu formunu menopozlu altın günlerinde attığı göbekle bile muhafaza edebilen kadın hantallığının stajını bir yerde almış olmalılar.
Açık dünyası son derece kısıtlı, tüm NPC'ler, aynı kadın doğurmuş gibi, öyküsü KPSS paragraflarını aratıyor, TPS ve dedektiflik arasındaki uyum yakalanamamış, sıkça muharebe gerekirken muharebe mekanikleri bir o kadar kötü, görevlerin anlamı Lozan'ın gizli maddeleri kadar âşikâr olmakla birlikte, 2023'de uçuşa geçemeyişimiz kadar sâbit. İşimiz de akıl sağlığımızı muhafaza etmeye çabalamak. Sanırım tüm oyuncu portföyünün Türkiye'den meydana geleceğini düşünmüşler. Nitekim Türkçe dil desteği mevcut. Sâdece atmosferi için belli bir yere kadar katlanılabilir, yine de çıkarsa ikinci oyununa şans vermeyi düşünüyorum.

İndirimde bir döner fiyatını görürse alabilirsiniz, ben tercihimi dönerden yana kullanırdım.

보이는 비주얼에 비해 요구사양이 엄청 높습니다.
5080인데 풀옵기준 4k dlss 성능으로 70밑으로도 떨어지네요.
프레임젠은 옵션은 있는데 작동 안합니다;
게임은 할 만은 합니다. 이것저것 만지다 30시간만에 엔딩 봤네요.
다만 정가주고 사긴 아깝고 3만원 정도면 제 값 합니다. 컴 사양이 좋은 분에게만 추천합니다.
추리게임에 가깝고 나름 오픈월드입니다. 전투는 별 재미 없고 이야기는 나쁘지 않네요.

Bought this on a big sale, still wasn't worth it.
The core gameplay loop can seem interesting at first, but the novelty of every aspect wears off very quickly - the LA Noire clue-snooping, mentally recreating crime scenes, the resource management, the navigation and exploration, they all start "neat" and end up mind-numbingly tedious. I don't include the combat in this list because it isn't interesting or fun at any point from beginning to end, which is unfortunate considering how common it is.
The lovecraft themes are a collection of surface-level "hey, remember X story?"s hodgepodged together bluntly for you to point and cheer at, just window dressing for a bad lovecraft+LA Noire mashup.
The one point I will give the game is in some of the choices it provides - there were several parts where I really wanted to play out a specific, slightly-convoluted solution to a quest, and was pleasantly surprised when such a thing was acknowledged and allowed. Sadly, a very small percentage of quests had any opportunity for such a thing, most were "go here, kill something, look at a dead body", rinse and repeat - bearing in mind that "go here" is 5 or 6 minutes of mindless Shift+W holding with nothing to fill the time or catch your interest.
Exploration is pointless, because enemies will respawn when you return, and you'll probably need to go back later to whatever place you're exploring for a quest you can't complete at the moment, so you're wasting your time.

Alright, now that I've sunk 18 hours of my life into this game, I can go and watch a different review.

Oakmont, the titular city, is a place coming apart at the seams. A place where the barrier between normal life and annihilation has become so distressed and worn that to even imagine the horrors poised to wash over it is to invite those horrors to seep through the cracks. Skeletons of beached ships lay mangled against partly submerged tenements. Diesel fumes belch from outboard motors and mix with the musk and grime of the unwashed ferry-goers to dance above a salty stew of rotting whale carcasses and spilled industrial chemicals. And yet the people of Oakmont cling to normalcy as best as they can, casting fishing lines from makeshift docks fashioned outside their apartment windows, butchering meat at the market, drinking at the bar. The monsters can be terrible and the people sometimes monstrous, but the true horrors here are the omnipresent reminders of just how fragile that day-to-day normalcy we so take for granted can sometimes be. Astoundingly prescient for a game originally released in 2019.

Gameplay wise, there’s not much to write home about. The combat is clunky and the tactical decisions can almost always be boiled down to “do I need to use a grenade here, or can this be beaten to death with a shovel?”. And sometimes enemies are just plain stupid – like “stand there doing nothing while you repeatedly shoot them” stupid. There’s a crafting mechanic to replenish supplies, and a degree of redundancy in the sorts of ingredients you use which, in theory, should force the player to decide between, say, making more pistol ammo or more Thomson ammo, but the ingredients were so plentiful that I rarely found myself in such a conundrum. (Perhaps playing on a higher difficulty would have forced me to be more thoughtful, but I have an inkling that it would have merely made the game frustrating.) There’s an investigation mechanic, too. If you’re hoping this allows you to exercise those brain-muscles by deducing events previously transpired, then you might be a bit disappointed as it’s more a storytelling feature. However, this mechanic does force the player to really explore the world and soak up the details – which is really the crux of the game. If this game is greater than the sum of its parts, the exploration is the ingredient that makes that formula work. The city is festooned with sights and details both terrible and compelling and the real pleasure of playing the game comes from discovering these things.

As good as the sights are, the sound in the game also stands out quite a bit to me, specifically the music. A cool noir groove accompanies you as you dwell the streets, broken up by interludes of surreal ghostly voices. When entering infested areas the tone changes to a ponderous, hateful electrical static that evokes the tearing of reality as creatures burst forth from the earth. And then there are the little effects like the sound of movement from another room as you investigate the scene of a fresh atrocity.

Overall, The Sinking City is a flawed game. The sum of those flaws would disqualify most games from an endorsement, but I can’t help but give this game a ringing one because of the job it does in simply bringing to life such a beautifully broken place like Oakmont.

I've been a fan of Frogwares since Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper. They are always pretty good, but just missing something that makes their games truly great. I think the mechanics are great, and I think Sinking City refines the detective formula they've had for years now and adds much needed combat to break up the detective side of things. My only issue with this game is that the combat feels a little too clunky for me, which I hope is improved upon in the upcoming sequel.

Other than that, I can look past the performance and reused faces etc. considering Frogwares isn't exactly AAA. It is clear that their scope is a little bigger than their abilities, whether due to team size or funding I am unsure, but I think they have made a really special game here.

설정이 재미있고 배경이 멋집니다. 조작과 진행 방식이 매우매우 불편하긴 하지만, 주어진 정보를 가지고 스스로 추리하고 게임 환경과 상호작용하는 것이 핵심으로 느껴져서, 오히려 편의기능이 잘 되어 있었다면 재미가 반감되었을 것 같습니다.
그리고 이건 좀 이상하긴한데 영어공부가 돼요. 등장인물들이 굉장히 모범적인 단어를 사용하고 듣기 편한 톤으로 말해서 표현 배우기가 좋습니다ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

J'ai eu le jeu soldé à 10$ et même à ce prix je me sens à la limite de l'escroquerie.

Je ne sais pas vraiment comment l'expliquer, mais le jeu s'est littéralement décomposé sur la durée et m'a fait passé par toutes les phases. J'ai été incroyablement motivé et attiré sur les 7 premières heures et le premier tiers du jeu, lassé sur le deuxième tiers, et sincèrement énervée sur le dernier. Au fur et à mesure la fadesse du gameplay se fait ressentir et beaucoup de points négatifs nous sautent aux visages et la fin du jeu est un pure supplice (je pèse mes mots, j'étais près à tout arrêter lors de la quête finale).

Il y a quelques gros GROS problèmes qui me semblent pas possible pour un jeu qui visuellement est correct et avait beaucoup de potentiel. On y trouve un mélange entre Resident Evil 2, Dishonored et Batman l'enquêteur. Et tout ça dans un monde trouble Lovecraftien! Un bel Univers qui donne envie d'être découvert et qui se dévoile dans le premier tiers. L'univers est étrange, se fait timide, tortueux, sombre et malaisain. Intéressant! J'ai fait la majorité du premier tiers juste avec l'arme de départ car... explorer la ville était cool!

Puis on réalise à quel point les maisons et décors ont été recyclés (à tel point que cela en devient vraiment honteux!). Ce n'est pas normale de rentrer dans une maison jamais explorée et de déjà savoir où seront les couloirs, entrées, trous dans le plafond et plancher et que cela se produisent SYSTEMATIQUEMENT dès le deuxième tiers pour CHAQUE nouvel endroit.

Le système de quête et découverte aurait été intéressant s'il y avait un moyen de trouver les indices plus facilement ou de les mettre en surbrillance (peut-être avec la vision de l'aigle incluse dans le jeu par exemple et qui ne sert qu'à mettre en surbrillance les H sur les portes???). Je compte plus le nombre de fois où j'ai tourné en rond pendant 10 ou 20 minutes dans une pièce à chercher un bout de papier pas correctement mis en évidence. Cela casse le rythme et cela rien de drôle, on sent que cela a été volontairement retiré d'un gameplay existant pour gonfler la durée du jeu de façon grossière.

Et puis il y a les bugs. Mention spéciale à la pelle dans la morgue qui est le seul item du jeu à avoir deux indices dessus et qui si vous le reposez avec un seul indice trouvé (ce que vous ferez puisque c'est ainsi que fonctionnaient TOUS les précédents indices des 10 dernières heures), apparait comme indice trouvé alors que non (bonne chance par la suite pour avoir l'idée de revérifier un objet déjà trouvé et en gris dans une maison de 3 étages!). Quid de l'énigme finale qui dit d'aller à l'hôpital alors que ce sont les archives de l'hôtel de ville. Un tel manque de finalisation ça n'est pas normale et encore moins que tout ceci ne soit pas patché dans une réédition.

Vraiment, les 3 dernières heures du jeu ont été un calvaire quand je vois que sur chaque nouveau lieu où je me rendais, il me manquait systématiquement un indice important dissimuler de façon absurde et pas utile qui me bloquait dans la progression.

Je comprends le choix de ne pas indiquer automatiquement sur la carte les lieux d'intérêt pour enquêter, et qu'il faille chercher les croisements de rues. OK, le protagoniste est un détective, il a une carte, on est surement à une époque sans internet, il sort sa carte il entoure des endroits au stylo (ca aurait été plus cool qu'un marqueur par ailleurs dans ce cas). Mais honnêtement sur la fin... y en a juste marre. Que cela ait été par exemple une mécanique de quêtes annexe je dis pourquoi pas, mais sur la quête principale: NON.

C'est vraiment dommage, on sent un jeu au potentiel intéressant avec un univers riche et qui manque totalement sa fin et son histoire. Le bestiaire est ridiculement faible (4 ennemis...), et la meilleure arme du jeu est la barre à mine (je blague pas). J'aurais pas cru qu'il existait encore des jeux avec une seule animation de coup qu'on va spam en boucle. Il y a, quelques quêtes annexes un peu original, mais pas de quoi rattraper le tout. Aucun personnage à qui s'accrocher ou qui donne envie d'en apprendre plus, juste des fantômes errant dans une ville morte. Le seul personnage qui me donnait envie d'en apprendre plus était la bibliothécaire au lèvres cousues (évidemment aucune quête liée à ce personnage).

La main story est vraiment bien sur le début. Egalement, que les choix que l'on fait puissent avoir des répercussions pour des choix moraux ultérieures, ça c'est une approche intéressante et peu utilisée. Mais sincèrement, chaque chapitre s'emboîte assez mal dans le récit global et la mécanique de service à rendre à chaque PNJ devient ridicule sur la fin (tellement que le jeu lui même ironise dessus ce qui est toujours un très mauvais signe quand un jeu se moque de lui-même).

I really liked it. You might not.

Its been a little while since I've played the game, but from what I remember, the vast majority of the game is just a trudging-through-waist-deep-mud slog. Like it starts off really good, the detective systems in place are fun, the characters are weird and interesting, the voice acting well done. Just so many elements to set the game up for success. Unfortunately, after that initial loop of gameplay, you realize that it is a pretty unforgiving (and repetitive) survival shooter. The game just lacked variety and doesn't always give the player the tools they need to really move forward. You could be cruising along in the game just fine, but suddenly you happen upon a house to explore for resources. By the time you get through said house, you're either dead or actually less item-rich than when you entered, as enemies can be hard to kill and sometimes can completely overwhelem you.
Storywise, its pretty good, very lovecraftian. For me the game was enough of a good story and mix of lovecraftian inspired horror to keep me interested, but thats only because I'd consider myself to be a big fan of that genre. For the average person, I'd imagine the game would become unbearable at one point and they would give up. I'll likely never play the game again, but I enjoyed the playthrough I had. HOWEVER, I am hoping that Frogwares learns from the complaints about the first game and makes the sequel much better than the first. Here's hoping.

So yeah, for anyone who's a big fan of detective games and lovecraftian/cosmic horror type stuff, I'd reccommend. If not, you're probably better off playing something else.

Also worthy of noting is that I played the entire game on Steam Deck and it ran pretty well.

C'était long et plutôt mauvais.

En soi, l'ambiance dans la ville est vraiment bonne, avec ses aspects hallucinants de ville à moitié engloutie et détruite. Et techniquement le jeu est ok niveau graphique et contrôle.
Mais l'expérience ludique est catastrophique. Un misérable bestiaire de 4 monstres qu'on revoit encore et encore et encore ! J'ai fais toutes les quêtes secondaires et AUCUNE n'est intéressante. Une vraie perte de temps, qui se finit à chaque fois en déception.
L'intrigue principale est médiocre. On a juste envie d'arriver au bout et que ça se termine, tant on passe de quête fedex en cabine téléphonique. Quelle paresse dans la scénarisation ! Pourtant c'est pas l'inspiration qui manque dans l'univers Lovecratien.
Un grand gachis ! Je ne peux pas recommander ce jeu.

Frogware has produced an exceptional horror Shooter/RPG with a very entertaining and unique atmospheric story. It was a LOT of fun. I just finished the game and eager to play it again on a more difficult setting and use what I learned to be a more effective bad ass sleuth.

My only complaint is the repeating of floorplans. Reed has to investigate inside about 100 structures, but there are only about a dozen floorplans. When I enter a building I sometimes wonder if I've been inside it before only to trigger events which indicate that I haven't.

包括主角在内的所有角色都是有着完整说明书的工器具，点到点的任务，且重复一次又一次，在这个空有外壳的城市里进行像洗碗布一样的解密。
希望第二部能有显著的区别。

I really wanted to at least finish this game, especially since I never write a review halfway through. Unfortunately, I encountered a game-breaking bug that prevented me from progressing in the main story: in the crematory, the stairs are glitched and you can’t go back upstairs.

There are many flaws that make this game unenjoyable. The optimization is terrible — I’ve never experienced such a bad framerate in any demanding UE5 game. The combat is extremely basic, and the enemy variety is practically non-existent. There are only a handful of weapons in the game, and you obtain most of them within the first few missions.

It also feels pointless to include Infested locations, since you can completely avoid this mechanic and there’s no way to clear them for meaningful rewards. The open-world formula is very poorly designed for a game like this. Having limited resources defeats the purpose of exploration, so what’s left is an empty, lifeless world with little to offer. Instead of encouraging discovery, it just makes quests feel like a chore, as you spend most of your time running from point A to point B.

On top of that, this is the first time I’ve ever wanted more hand-holding in a modern video game. Often, you’ll wander around the same building because you missed a non-highlighted object, or you’ll struggle to piece together the correct three keywords based on very little information just to continue the game. And good luck if you take a long break without finishing a quest — you likely won’t even remember how to proceed.

I can’t recommend this game, and honestly, I’m almost glad I couldn’t complete it. In the end, it might have been for the best — The Sinking City wasn’t the experience I was hoping for when I bought it.

Die Questbelohnungen und das Skillsystem sind nicht sehr durchdacht. So gibt es z.B. 2 Skills um Questbelohnung zu erhöhen. Bin ich doch nach kurzer Zeit in dem Spiel an dem Punkt angekommen, wo ich mit vollem Inventar inkl Munition und Verbänden zu einem Tatort gehe, Dort ggf. einen Teil verschieße, mich heile und die verloren Munition/Resourcen aus den Beutekisten zurückbekomme. Somit verlasse ich dann den Tatort wieder mit vollem Inventar. Die Questbelohnung (ausser die XP) geht somit verloren/macht keinen Sinn sobald ich beim Auftraggeber die Quest beende. Hier wären andere Skills sinnvoller gewesen wie zb. einfacheres Erkennen von Hinweisen.

Alte Rezesion:
Ich mag Lovecraft auch wenn in den Kurzgeschichten nie wirklich irgendwelche Gewalt oder Schussgefechte vorkommen geschweige denn "Monster" die den Protagonisten angreifen. Eigentlich verfallen diese bei der Recherche von Okulten Büchern und Vorkommnissen dem Wahnsinn. Die meisten Lovecraft Spiele zielen mit ihren Shootern voll dran vorbei. Hier muss ich sagen, befindet sich der Kampfanteil noch in einem gesunden Mass, da der Detektiv-/Rechercheanteil überwiegt (bisher)

Aber erstmal zum wesentlichen:

+++ Die Grafik passt 100% zu der Lovecraft Stimmung
+++ Die Geschichte spielt nach "der Schatten über Insmouth" nachdem Insmouth von der Regierung wegen der okulten Fischmenschen zerstört wurde
+++ Als Lovecraft Fan ist man direkt in der Geschichte drin und fühlt sich ins Universum reingezogen.
+ Sound und Musik passen zur Stimmung (zugegeben Musik ist mir Schnuppe da ich in Videospielen immer Musik ausstelle und dann eigene Musik dran mache)
- Motion Blur lässt sich nicht ausstellen, offensichtlich nichtmal wenn man die Ini Datei modifiziert
auch wenn Motion Blur in modernen Spielen den gewissen Detailgrad geben, ich empfinde es als Stressig und es erregt Schwindelgefühle.
- in den verseuchten Zonen wo ich bisher war, konnte ich die Monster spawnen lassen, dann sie zu einer Absperrung kiten und aus der Sicherheit der Strasse ihre Körper durch die Holzwand töten. Da man am Anfang nicht viel Munition hat und ich nicht genau wusste wo es hinging war dies sowas wie ne Reflexhandlung wenn man als niedrigstufiger Char auf eine Gruppe Monster trifft.
+/- (neutral) ist die Tastaturbelegung. Klar war ich am Anfang verwirrt, dass E nicht Interaktion ist und linke Maus Nahkampfangriff, sondern umgekehrt. Aber da man z.B, zur Benutzung von Heilverbänden Rechte Maus + Linke Maustaste halten muss, macht dies irgendwie dann auch wieder Sinn. Mit anderen Worten man gewöhnt sich schnell dran.
+/- Die Untersuchungen brauchen schon etwas mehr Aufmerksamkeit, da es schnell passiert, dass man im Raum hin und her läuft und den einzigen fehlenden Hinweis übersieht und zig mal dran vorbei läuft. Oder schon einen Hinweis zb Blutspur sieht, aber man noch im Schritt davor ist.
+/- DLC's mit extra Nebenquests bzw "Neuer" Extrafälle. Wobei ich irgendwo gelesen hab, dass diese Ursprünglich im Hauptspiel drin waren und dann als DLC extrahiert wurden. naja DLC's im Sale sind ok.

Fazit: Wer Detektivspiele oder Lovecraft-Geschichten oder beides Zusammen mag, wird hier gut bedient.
Wer nach einem Horror Shooter sucht, wird hier vermutlich nicht sehr glücklich, dazu gibt's zu viele Dialoge und Lore zu lesen, die zwischen den Zeilen Informationen für die Detektivarbeit enthalten. Wer hier ADHS bedingt durchklickt oder nicht durchliest ist im Spiel schnell verloren.

The Sinking City is clearly made by a small team with a limited budget. The gameplay is rather shallow and repetitive as the most the game will demand of you is to walk around the environnements clicking on everything until the next step of your investigation is made clear. There is only 4 enemy types with dumb as bricks AI that you will fight over and over again. By the end of the game, you will know the layout of every house and building in Oakmont by heart as they are recycled for main and side missions alike.

But even with its repetitiveness and limited assets, I quite enjoyed my time with The Sinking City. It is dripping (pun intended) with atmosphere, the voice acting is pretty great, especially for the main caracter, who I really liked, and the story it tells, while not really bringing anything new to the table of lovecraftian tropes, manages to stay engaging for its entire runtime with severel interesting twists and choices to make along the way.

I would recommend it, but only if you're willing to deal with a fair amount of repetition and jank.

The Sinking City is a game I’ve been wanting to play for a long time, way before the Remastered version came out. After years of dithering, I finally got to play it and let me tell you that it lived up to my hype and then some.

The Sinking City is arguably gaming’s very first open-world horror RPG game. Some may point out that the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series could lay claim to that title, but I dare say that they are more on the survival horror subgenre side of things. Instead, The Sinking City is Lovecraftian horror in its purest, most unbridled form, offered in an eloquent open-world RPG bundle of diverging dialogue choices, branching story paths, a rewarding levelling system and a healthy dose of interesting side quests to boot. It is, arguably, the game I always wanted or needed, even if I didn’t know it.

Set in the Prohibition-era United States, the game follows Charles Reed, a private investigator who after enduring a string of unsettling nightmares, makes his way to Oakmont, a midwestern town seemingly abandoned and forgotten by the rest of the country. There, Reed expects to find the answers he so desperately seeks to put an end to the nightmares plaguing him. Being an investigator as he is, however, Charles soon finds himself thrust in the middle of Oakmont’s intricate world of city politics and societal upheaval, all while solving a wide assortment of murders, thefts and whatnot that he comes across.

And oh boy, does this game’s storytelling excel: at 35 years, it’s been a while since I last stayed overnight playing a game, but The Sinking City kept me so hooked on its story, that I stayed up until six AM for two days in a row out of the sheer need to see how the story played out. The characters are so unique, their mysteries and misfortunes so engrossing, that I often needed to see how they unravelled before going to bed. Stories can get you so far, however, if you don’t have the voice acting or artistic quality to deliver them, and fortunately The Sinking City has some of the soundest voice acting (mind the pun) I’ve heard in a game in a long while. Robert Throgmorton in particular comes to mind: his low, almost humming voice, delivered a cold, indisputable reminder of who is who in Oakmont.

But needless to say, it would not be a Lovecraftian story without a healthy dose of the paranormal. For below the waters that straddle the sinking city of Oakmont, an evil that has been biding its time for millennia stirs in its slumber. The fabric that separates this world from the one below starts to crack, allowing otherworldly creatures into the city. Horrible, distorted figures stalk the streets of Oakmont, and while most of the city is (somewhat) inhabitable, the creatures effectively control entire blocks of housing and warehouses that are deemed infested by the Oakmontians.

As befits a Lovecraftian tale, prolonged contact with these unworldly beasts – as well as other unsettling experiences – will drain our character’s sanity. The less sanity Charles has, the more warped and distorted his experience of the world becomes, with streaks of colour and vivid lucidity giving way to a bleak, ashen world. Yet a changing palette is but one of many side effects that Charles has to reckon with if he dips into madness, for the more he loses his grasp on reality, the more the world is filled with creatures conjured by Charles’ waning sanity. Even if they are the twisted product of a warped mind, these imagined creatures can and will harm the player as much as their physical counterparts seeping into our world. This means that every fight presents an intrinsic conundrum: killing off enemies quickly will make the fight easier, with fewer enemies around, but disregarding Charles’ growing insanity if he doesn’t rest every now and then will invariably lead to getting swarmed by Charles’ hellish visions.

On paper, or at least for the first ten or so hours, this mechanic feels and plays out wonderfully. Charles feels fragile, resources feel scarce and every encounter feels like a fight or flight dilemma. Yet as the story progresses and Charles begins to tap into his full potential and gain a wide assortment of weapons at his disposal, the balance starts to tip in his favour, until by the end of the game you feel like a veritable dispenser of death. It might be due to the game’s levelling system not being properly scaled to account for its numerous (and marvelous) DLC, which potentially entail maxing out by the end of Chapter Two or Three, but truth is, I had enough extra skill points by the end of the game to max out an additional skill tree, had there been more.

The game’s second major shortcoming, and the reason why I postponed it for so long, is motion sickness. I kid you not: no other game induces motion sickness like this one does. I avoided the original The Sinking City hoping that one day a Remastered would come out with a FOV slider or something that would tackle that issue. That didn’t happen: the Remastered, for all its beauty, didn’t quite offer more leeway in terms of fine-tuning the user’s visual experience. I had pretty much given up on the game were it not for mrkonnichiwa’s post [url=https://steamcommunity.com/app/750130/discussions/0/4031350479980228569/]here[/url], who candidly shared the settings that made his wife’s motion sickness go away, namely make sure to set these settings to the following:

- Shadows: Medium (it disables the swirling effect).
- Effects: turn effects all the way down.
- Film grain: disable.

I might add that changing outfits to the “Unburdened newcomer” helped a lot in the motion sickness department as well. I felt bad after reading how much work the devs put into the physics behind Charles’ backpack, but my stomach churned whenever I saw it swaying from one side to the other. With all these tweaks in mind, I could finally enjoy this beautiful game.

Finally, the game is conspicuously lacking in ambient variety. That is, most of the apartments, beast lairs and warehouses you come across have two or three variations to them and that’s it. That would not be a problem necessarily, were it not for the fact that most of these even have the same hidden doors in the same places! Thus, the moment you crack the layout of those variations, that’s it, you’ve cracked them all. The game isn’t that long, so you don’t get to feel unnecessarily tired of them, but having two or three more variations wouldn’t have hurt.

These misgivings aside, The Sinking City is, hands down, one of the best horror experiences out there, and arguably one of the best open-world games out there. For among the slumbering alleys and the decrepit houses, the peddling beggars and stabbing ruffians, the desolate prostitutes and raving cultists, and the overall god-forsaken miscreants that inhabit the city, there is a world teeming with vibrant life and reeking of personality like I haven’t experienced anywhere else in gaming. It is the most charismatic digital putrid cesspit of decadence you will come across. I will probably be preordering The Sinking City II the moment Steam preorders are greenlit. Meanwhile, I will probably continue immersing myself in the despairing alleys of Oakmont for a while yet.

TL;DR: Pros: Beautiful, engrossingly captivating open world horror game; both main and side quests are memorable; (mostly) superb voice acting. Cons: Levelling system should be re-scaled; could have used some more location variety.

- [b]The open world[/b] is big, empty and disjointed. NPCs are more like furniture, just walking around to make you think the world is alive (up until you stop and look around). There's a lot of repetitiveness (the harmonica guy, the crying lady, two men fighting over scraps, interiors, etc.).

The quests are scripted - NPCs wouldn't spawn in unless you follow the exact order, and some places will be closed off for the same reasons. What's the point of the open world if you constantly hit the wall the minute you do something out of order?

- [b]The gameplay[/b] could definitely use some improvements. You're stuck in the same loop of: go talk to somebody, go to the place indicated in the notes (a street name between one street name and the other), inevitably fight the same creatures for the nth time, find another guy and talk to him, repeat.

The quarantine zones could just be avoided, and nothing of value would be lost. You'll fight the same monsters over and over (the same as in the missions), and in return, get more resources, which you will in turn, spend on weapons and healing items. What's the point? Exactly.

The game just gives you weapons for completing missions; you don't have to do anything, and you don't feel like you earned them. Why not use the open world to make you procure them on your own? Want to obtain a rifle? Do a side quest. Could a shotgun make things easier? I heard some guy left one in the quarantine zone. The missions write themselves, but alas.

- [b]The mechanics[/b] are few and not without issues. The idea of going to different archives to find more info is good, but the implementation is subpar and quickly turns into "click around until you find what you need". The same applies to the mind palace - click around until it works.

The whole skills tree could be reduced or completely removed, as it only offers you slightly bigger numbers for existing things. I would only keep the weapons tree and add more ways to improve it for different styles.

- [b]The story[/b] is definitely there. I didn't hate it, and some quests were good and memorable, but most were generic. There's no real choice in anything; you decide someone's fate in the moment (aka at the end of the quest) and move on. The world doesn't change around your actions.

- [b]The main character[/b] is unlikeable, at least for me. The whole game, he wears the same dead-inside "I don't care" expression, makes borderline redditor sarcastic remarks as if he's not literally losing his mind and has hallucinations every other day. He supposedly barely makes it out of total insanity and brain damage multiple times, but this has zero effect on him. He's the same at the start and at the end. He doesn't seem to care. Why should the player?

- [b]Current day politics[/b], somehow, made their way into this game as if it hadn't already had enough problems to deal with. The game is set in 1920s, but the writers can only think in terms of 2020s. So you get KKK (yes, really), who don't do anything to black people in the game (segregation didn't happen), but go after fish people. You have the guy called Milton Pierce (the writers made sure he's irredeemable), who wants to make Oakmond great again and build a wall around the city (I'll let you figure out who he represents). You have the locals call every new person in the city (including the protagonist) a derogatory "newcomer" (even though the city is big and diverse), and you can call some people in the game a "bigot" (and thus, winning the argument).

[b]Overall[/b], the game tries to balance between an open world and a linear story-driven game, and succeeds at neither. It's like the dev resources were spread thin, but they refused to scale back. I hope the second game accounts for that.

J'ai beaucoup apprécié parcourir The sinking city dans sa globalité: version remasterd plutot sympatique, Univers vraiment glauque, DA, intrigue.
Charles Reeds est un personnage bien écrit et il souhaite faire disparaitre ces visions qui le hante au quotidien, il cherche un remède et c'est a ce moment que vous intervenez pour comprendre comment 'Oakmount' a sombré dans le chaos après une importante l'inondation.
il peche un peu dans les gunfights mais ce n'est pas le coeur du gameplay.
Je ne regrette pas d'avoir acheter ce jeux.
je le recommande pour ceux qui recherche un jeux avec une très bonne intrigue tout du long ;=)

The Sinking City Remastered é aquele tipo de jogo que ou você entra no clima, ou larga no meio. A proposta é investigação em mundo aberto com terror lovecraftiano. Você anda por uma cidade decadente, parcialmente submersa, resolvendo casos estranhos e juntando pistas por conta própria. O jogo não fica segurando sua mão o tempo todo, e isso é um dos pontos mais legais. Vasculhar arquivos, cruzar informações e chegar às próprias conclusões dá uma sensação boa de detetive mesmo.

A ambientação é o que mais brilha. Oakmont é pesada, melancólica, desconfortável — do jeito certo. A iluminação e os efeitos do remaster deixaram tudo mais bonito e mais imersivo. Dá pra perceber o upgrade visual. Agora, o combate… é fraco. Travado, repetitivo e sem muito impacto. Muitas vezes parece que está ali só porque precisava ter. Não é o foco do jogo, mas quando aparece, não empolga.

Também rola uma certa repetição em algumas missões e deslocamentos longos que quebram o ritmo. Não é um jogo ágil. É lento, atmosférico e às vezes arrastado

This game has the exact same problems that Frogware's previous game, Sherlock Holmes Chapter One, has. It's an open world game, but the only reason it's open world is to pad the play time with a lot of meaningless running around. The main point for making a game open world should be to have tons of interesting places to explore, to find scenes made with environmental storytelling, and to make a world that seems alive.

Even though the game world is pretty big, there are only a few types of building you can enter. Most of the time, they didn't even bother to move the props around in the different buildings, almost every single one of them will have the exact same layout, the exact same furniture in the exact same places, the exact same holes in the floor, with the exact same stack of crates that you can climb, and the exact same place for the hidden passages that you can open using your mythos vision.

The NPCs are completely lifeless, they don't even have scripted actions really, they walk around, they stand and fish, they fight over a piece of fruit (this animation is always desynchronized and looks ridiculous). If there are monsters running around the street attacking them, they do not react in any way, they just continue doing their one action... unless you shoot a gun and try to save them, then some of them will run away, or attack you. I especially like how some of them walk around with a basket on their back overflowing with human remains, and the cops don't even give them a second glance. They basically don't have any sort of AI beyond "play this animation". NPCs also spawn as soon as the camera isn't pointed at their spawn point, so you could be in an empty street, spin around, and instantly be surrounded by aimless NPCs. The NPCs seem to only be there to break immersion.

90% of the side missions in the game are to simply go to one of the cookie cutter prefab buildings and find one generic object. You'll know exactly where to find it in these buildings too, because it's going to be the same buildings each time, with the object behind the same hidden wall. Pure playtime padding filler. There's even an entire DLC that adds nothing but these fetch quests.

The actual story missions are sort of okay, but they all end in a "make this huge choice", which doesn't matter even a little bit. This is a "choices matter" game, where choices are completely meaningless. They don't carry over even into the next mission. Even the very end of the game just presents you three choices that just decide what minute long cutscene you'll see to end the game, and none of your previous choices influence this at all. The story itself is nothing we haven't seen before, and seen done better... even Frogwares did Lovecraft better with their Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened game. The game also never gives you opportunities to solve things a different way... you either get to take a bite out of the ♥♥♥♥ sandwich on wheat bread, or you get to take a bite out of the ♥♥♥♥ sandwich on rye bread.

Combat is just garbage. Guns aren't accurate, and not particularly powerful. The loot system is basically just there to give you crafting components to make bullets and hand grenades. There's no actual loot beyond that. You receive the various firearms at specific times in the game, so that's not even loot. They even talk about how the entire town uses the barter system, and you're basically going to use bullets as currency, but it only actually pops up twice in the story that you have to spend a bullet on anything. There's no stores, you can't buy anything... yet your character is constantly asking to get paid for everything he does. Of course, I never actually got paid for anything, since they pay in bullets and I always had the maximum amount of bullets for every weapon on me.

The graphics are decent, but there's a very limited number of unique character models, so you'll be talking to the same looking people over and over again, and the lip syncing with the voice lines doesn't always match up either. There's also only about 7 types of enemies, and none of them are actual mythos creatures... they're more like generic mmo abominations.

This game is just a total miss, it tries to do many things and fails at each one of them. It doesn't bring anything new to the Lovecraft mythos, it doesn't do open worlds well, it doesn't do combat well, the investigations are pretty shallow compared to their own SHerlock Holmes games that use the same mechanics. Very disappointing. Play Call of Cthulhu (2018) instead, it's a much better mythos game. Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth (2005) is a much better story too, even though its graphics are dated and it has some bugs, it's still a better game.

I forced myself to complete the game, although large parts of it felt like a boring slog. As a fan of especially the earlier Frogwares titles, it saddens me that their recent games mostly boiled down to the same open-worldish formula that sacrifices quality for quantity with a simple framework for repetitive content that they can churn out quickly in an attempt to fill that world.

Their open worlds may be nice to look at, but playing in them quickly ruins the illusion. In this game it's even more apparent, because of the action-adventure elements that want you to focus on combat and scavenging. They only have one or two templates for middle-class houses in the game, one for luxury villas, one for storage halls, one for ruined houses, etc. So every time you enter a ruined house, it looks the same as every other: the floor is broken in the same places, the stairs are in the same spot, the magically hidden entrances are exactly in the same spot, the loot is in the same spot and you know exactly when and where to expect enemies to spawn. You will see the same predictable locations uncountable times throughout the game, which severely hurts the credibility of the world, the potential horror atmosphere and the whole exploration aspect of it. (Seriously, what kind of cultist goes throughout the city and decides to conjure up some illusiory wall 50 times in exactly the same spot of the same floor plan? Even the domino blocks on some tables are arranged in exactly the same pattern throughout the world. And at one point I encountered an NPC who just cried in a cutscene after learning that her dog died, only to immediately afterwards continue reading her book with a bored look.)

Combat is also nothing to write home about. There are not many different enemy types and you quickly learn their patterns. Your weapons and ammo is scarce at the beginning, but after progressing through the story a bit and pumping some XP into a basic perk system that mostly just gives minor attribute bonuses, the combat encounters just become a predictable annoyance that you have to deal with every time you enter an uninhabited location.

The side cases boil down to uninspired fetch quests. And for a game that originally advertised itself as requiring the player to think for themselves and not having any waypoints that tell you where to go next, it really is just waypoints with extra steps: you always have a lead in your clues for a case that will very obviously point you at a specific location like "on road X, between road Y and Z", which you then roughly place on your map. You then go to that road and search for a marked door, but that's it. It's not like you even need to combine different clues on your own, everything you need is always spelt out in a single clue. Sometimes you need to head to an archive first and select three things that a specific clue gives you (e.g. "time period: current", "topic: citizen records", "district: X") in order to find the next clue towards a location, which is again just extra steps and does not really require much ingenuity on the player's part.
The presentation of text clues is as immersive as reading through an SMS. It feels rushed, so I quickly stopped caring. The menu will summarize the important parts anyway.

It also does not really feel like you are really doing detective work, since the main character just happens to have some supernatural abilities that lets him see and hear what previously happened in a location. It feels like a cheap way out of needing to come up with logical reasoning for things. The only thing that remotely feels like it requires the player to show some understanding of what's going on is when they need to bring those past illusions in the correct order. But even that can easily be brute-forced.

The game also continues in the trend from previous games where the solution to the main case is always morally ambiguous and open to interpretation. Or in some cases it's not actually ambiguous, but the game's achievements for whatever reason seem to encourage you to pick the most despicable option. Ultimately, none of the options really have any meaningful repercussions for your playthrough and do not impact the endings at all. Most characters introduced throughout the story are quickly forgotten and I barely established any connection to the protagonist at all.

Also, the DLCs are not worth their price. It's just more annoying fetch quests with barely any story to frame them.

Unsurprisingly, investigation-related features that migrated from Sherlock games are good, although watered down due to the sheer scope.

Also unsurprisingly, if you've made bite-sized walking/talking simulators for 20 years, you aren't really equipped to jump at an ambitious open world game with combat and survival elements in one go.

I find this game pretty un-Lovecraftian and un-horror in spirit, but its decorations, sounds and themes are immersive enough to give you a good experience if you are the kind of a gamer who believes that such things can salvage subpar gameplay.

If not - do yourself a favour and stick mostly to the main quest. There is a substantial chance that if you focus on side quests you will quickly burn out.

If you played Sherlock Holmes chapter one than you will find many similarities plus added combat situations which are quite hard because shooting feels like its not accurate enough, also the Graphic and GPU is still not smooth enough to enjoy the Gameplay on Ultra Mode but its way better and more lively than sherlock holmes chapter one and with the same Detective features like mind palace and evidence section. They also added Perks and a skill tree.
There are locations like infestation areas where enemies will spawn at any point and rate but there is no explanation or whatsoever except there will be a loot of loot to be found which is not true since you have to waste so much ammo on enemies to get there. If you step out of the area where the enemies spawn they simply disappear and reappear once you go back into this area if you want to cheese the combat. Finding bullets is more like crafting bullets which are also the currency in this game. You can not enter every bulding or talk with everyone and killing civilians results in Focus lost which drives the Character Insane meaning the visuals will be different and you have to wait until you regain the focus bar to actually continue because you cant see anything. Its actually a nice Idea but its not quite good enough for the 21st century even the remastered is just a Graphic overhaul and Gameplay still needs to be enhanched because you have to look for all the places you can visit on the map by yourself and have to mark it for yourself which takes a lot of valuable reallife time. Exploring at night is a nice idea but really tedious because you can not see anything so you wait for daylight. Still somehow for an open world detective game it is quite nice but way overpriced if not bought in a sale.

Украинская студия Frogwares, известная своими Шерлоками, решила вернуть на прилавки свою лавкрафтианскую драму про затопленный город Окмонт, но уже на движке Unreal Engine 5. И да, визуально это просто конфетка. Но если копнуть глубже, под красивой оберткой скрывается всё та же неровная, бюджетная и местами откровенно сырая игра 2019 года .

🎭 Главное — детектив, а не боевик
Если вы ждёте здесь динамичного шутера про отстрел монстров — проходите мимо. Сердце игры — расследования. Вы играете за частного детектива Чарльза Рида, которого мучают видения, и приплываете в город, который постепенно сходит с ума и уходит под воду .

Механика детектива сделана отлично:

Вы собираете улики на местах преступлений.

Роетесь в архивах полиции, больницы и библиотеки .

Заходите в "Дворец разума" (специальный режим) и соединяете факты, чтобы выстроить логическую цепочку.

И главное — вам никто не скажет, правильный ли выбор вы сделали. Игра может молча засчитать провал, и вы пойдёте по неверному следу. Это одновременно и круто (реализм), и бесит (приходится переигрывать) .

Именно ради этого чувства — что ты сам, без маркеров и подсказок, раскрыл тайну — в The Sinking City и стоит играть.

🖼️ Unreal Engine 5: ради этого стоило переиздавать?
Да, графика — главный козырь ремастера . Разработчики завезли:

Lumen и трассировку лучей — вода блестит, тени падают правильно, город ожил .

4K текстуры — теперь можно разглядеть детали безумия на лицах прохожих .

DLSS и FSR — летает даже на средних системах (но системные требования подросли, GTX 1070 — это минимум!) .

НО. Даже в ремастере заметно, что мир — пустой. Это просто красивые декорации. Вы не найдёте следов на песке, интерактивности или жизни за окнами. Город мёртв, и это убивает погружение . Один игрок на Metacritic метко заметил: "Дождь недостаточно густой, фонарик недостаточно яркий, ощущения от наползающего моря тоже недостаточно" .

⚔️ Боевая система: вот тут всё плохо
Если вы надеялись, что в ремастере починят драку — нет, не починили . Боевка здесь — необходимость, а не развлечение.

Стрельба деревянная. Оружие чувствует себя как игрушечное .

Враги — болванчики. Монстры предсказуемы, их можно бить через заборы или просто забежать на ящик, откуда они вас не достанут .

Крафт и патроны. Система выживания сломана: патронов всегда мало, но они тут же крафтятся из мусора, который валяется под ногами прямо во время боя. В итоге вы не чувствуете себя ни выживальщиком, ни Рэмбо .

😤 Бесят мелочи (но они копятся)
Сундуки возрождаются. Вы зачистили локацию, а через 5 минут вернулись — и все ящики с лутом снова на месте. Убивает атмосферу исследования напрочь .

Пиксель-хантинг. Пропустили одну мелкую улику, которая не подсвечивается? Всё, тупик. Без гайда не пройти .

Сейвы странные. Сохраняешься в доме, а загружаешься за три квартала от него .

Копипаст локаций. Дизайнов заброшек в игре, может, и много, но они повторяются так часто, что к середине игры кажется, будто ходишь по кругу .

🧐 Вердикт
The Sinking City Remastered — игра на любителя. Она для терпеливых ценителей Лавкрафта, которые готовы простить кривой экшен ради возможности самостоятельно распутать клубок тайн.

Ремастер сделал её визуально современной, но не исправил фундаментальных проблем . Если у вас уже есть версия 2021 года — вам обновление доступно бесплатно, скачивайте смело . Если вы новичок — берите, но будьте готовы к тому, что 70% времени вы будете плавать на лодке по пустым каналам и страдать от перестрелок, а оставшиеся 30% — кайфовать от атмосферы и детектива.

Итог: Красивый, но всё такой же сырой детектив с душой Лавкрафта и кривыми руками.

Оценка: 7.0/10 (за атмосферу и UE5, минус за боевку и пустоту).

I enjoyed the main gameplay - crossing the city, evading too dangerous situations and becoming able to manage more as you play. There is intrinsically much that is meant to disturb - suicide, psychological horror and just grossness. I wouldn't recommend for people unfamiliar with Lovecraft's writing or the genre. The beginning was not engaging, and really threw a lot of barriers to enjoyment in your way as you learn the weirdness of the location and peculiarity of the game mechanics. If you like Lovecraft's style and this company's Sherlock Holmes games (play those first) this is an enjoyable game.

The best part was a super creepy mansion basement where nothing happened. I just walked around with a flashlight, in suspense, and discovered another lower level, even creepier, with absolutely no dangers or resources.

Style is super cool, but the gameplay is extremely frustrating.
It takes about half an hour to go to a new location on the map, because you have to read the street names and mark the map yourself, then try every door on that street till you find the right one.
Your guns constantly run out of ammo, and materials for crafting are very sparse.
When the sanity meter drops even a little bit, the screen warps and twists, and the character starts to hallucinate monsters and horrors. Any time your character sees a dead body, he loses a chunk of the sanity meter. Any time he even hears a monster in the building, he loses a chunk of the sanity meter. Using the detective vision also causes the sanity meter to drop.

this game is an underrated gem. its a very dark and story driven game wich that lovecraft flavour. It does not hold your hand you actually have to be a detective and search for clues and pinpoint stuff by connecting the information you found out yourself along the way. 1 down side of this game is the resources are so hard to come buy wich makes crafting bullets and other needed stuff to defend yourself so much harder and leaves you most of the time with no ammo for your guns.

The Sinking City é um jogo de ação/aventura com foco na investigação, coleta de evidências e deduções. Seu maior chamativo é a ambientação, sendo uma das melhores já criadas para uma adaptação de Lovecraft. E se interessar por esse autor é absolutamente essencial para curtir o jogo, pois só isso será capaz de fazer você ignorar todas suas deficiências, como a completa falta de interação com a cidade, o vaivém interminável e repetitivo, a história que se arrasta e o combate xexelento. Após quase 20 horas, simplesmente cansei e dropei. Se você nunca se interessou por Lovecraft, passe longe. Se você gosta, pegue numa promoção.

Видно, что постарались на славу: выглядит вкусно, ощущать себя детективом и погружаться в эту загадочную историю было увлекательно. Техническое состояние, конечно, не самое лучшее: на топовом ПК игра идёт в 80 fps, в некоторых местах вообще падает ещё ниже. Генерация хоть как-то сгладила это, но её попросту не завезли. Есть баг, из-за которого я не мог перешагнуть через ступеньку из-за невидимой стены и бегал по локации, не понимая, что мне делать. Если вы готовы с этим смириться, советую поиграть.

Great story and voice acting. The gameplay is alright with the detective mechanics coming out as its strongest point. The combat is mediocre and the animations a bit stiff. But the game is fun and has a really good vibe and atmosphere.

All in all i had a great time, but i recommend buying it at a sale.

Looking forward to the next game!

전투요소는 있으나 마나이고 히오스보다 타격감이 안좋다
단서를 얻고 증거를 엮어서 다음 이동경로를 예측하고의 무한 반복
게다가 그 찾아가는 장소도 지도 펼치고 일일히 내가 핑 찍어서 찾아가야한다
가산디지털 단지역 만큼이나 복잡한 도시 구석구석을 하나하나 뒤져가며 올바른 장소를 찾아야 하는것도
빡치는게 기껏 엔딩까지 도달하면 나오는건 짤막한 시네마틱 영상 하나 장난하나 크룰투마탄

Ce jeu est un brouillon d'open-world qui tient péniblement grâce au thème Lovecraftien. Je me suis accroché tout du long en espérant un miracle qui n’est jamais venu…

L’ambiance à l’air prometteuse de prime abord. Mais dans les faits, le gameplay suit inlassablement le même format… On va chercher une adresse dans des archives… Courir d’un téléphone à l'autre… On va fouiller les trois mêmes maisons à peine meublées différemment… On combat les quatre mêmes monstres (ce qui est d’autant plus dommage que le bestiaire de lovecraft a tellement de potentiel). Et cela en boucle pendant plus de 24h de jeu (!).

Que dire des voyages en bateau ou sous l’eau, qui offrent un gameplay proche du néant ?

J’aurais voulu mieux noter ce jeu, car il a de bonnes intentions. Mais le résultat final n’est tout simplement pas à la hauteur… Tout comme la fin : [spoiler]Vos choix tout au long du jeu n’ont absolument aucun impactes sur les choix finaux du dernier acte qui sont tous disponibles.[/spoiler]

Par chance, leur jeu plus récent [url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/1949030/Sherlock_Holmes_The_Awakened/]Sherlock Holmes : The Awakened[/url], est plus prometteur. Ce qui me laisse espérer que [url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/2825860/The_Sinking_City_2/]The Sinking City 2[/url] sera à la hauteur des ambitions du studio et du mythe de Cthulhu.

Get your freak on with Detective Charles Reed in this Lovecraftian mystery! Cool worldbuilding, art style and story. Investigation gameplay was enjoyable, even if the building interiors were all fairly similar. Properly creepy monsters and solid sound design lead to some pretty tense moments. Definitely said "oh ♥♥♥♥" more than a few times throughout my playthrough. I'd say 2 of the 3 endings leave things open enough to pave the way for the sequel, which now I have to play.

Cóż mogę napisać o tej grze. Jedynie co robi nawet dobrze, to mechanika rozwiązywania śledztw, poprzez samoczynne szukanie poszlak, a to w kronikach policyjnych, czy w historii pacjentów w placówce medycznej. Na początku, nawet ciekawym rozwiązaniem rzadko spotykanym w podobnych gra, jest nawigowanie po świecie. Nie dostajemy znacznika na mapie, lecz informacje gdzie powinniśmy się udać (dzielice, na skrzyżowaniu jakich ulic, jest to i to). Daje to nawet zabawę, lecz na dłuższą metę staje się, to frustrujące i tak naprawdę nie wnosi nic ciekawego, jedynie wydłuża niepotrzebnie czas. A tak poza tym, grafika mocno przeciętna, optymalizacja słaba, mechanika strzelania kiepska (auto AIM na PC, to chyba żart). Fabuła, może potrafi zaintrygować na początku, ale im dalej w las z historią, to zaczyna po prostu nudzić. Nawet ciekawy jest wątek rasizmu, tylko że tak naprawdę nic z niego nie wynika, poza tym że jest i tyle. Postacie nijakie. Próbowałem dostrzec w tej grze coś wyjątkowego, bo ma na siebie nawet ciekawy pomysł (oryginalny), ale te mechaniki są zdecydowanie do poprawy. Może kolejna część poprawi bolączki o których wspomniałem.

Палец вниз, только за техническое состояние игры, сама игра, графика, рус озвучка, мне понравилась.

1.Не работает генератор кадров Nvidia
2.Не корректно работает Hdr

В общем Dlss4.5 качество+ генератор кадров через Nvidia app и играть можно. 100+ fps. В целом игра идёт плавно.

Hdr работает криво, по дефолту он сильно пересвечивает картинку, надо убирать яркость Hdr в настройках игры до минимума, и в целом яркость Hdr я заметил только в режиме чутья, а в обычном режиме, как будто sdr.

Разрабы не уважает покупателей, раз забили на игру и не устраняют баги. Это печально, честно говоря не хочется таких поддерживать финансами...

说是侦探动作冒险，但在主线过程中推理和战斗场面并不多，更多的是探索与赶路，不过每个案件所要做出的道德选择确实很有意思，很多情况下都没有完美方案。该游戏的美术风格还不错，赶路的过程中总能拍一些好看的照片，故事也还可以，可惜主角颜值一般，性格不鲜明，魅力程度不如同工作室游戏福尔摩斯第一章的小夏。
