A fairly fun little horror game, the puzzles are simple enough and the combat is a little on the limited side but the story is pretty fun and the visuals are nice. My biggest gripe was having to play in offline mode so that the game was actually playable, though if that was fixed then it would be an easy recommend on sale.

The Chant:

Though all more believable story of my shown playtime would be "He got bored of this bizarre game".. but the truth is I had to turn my internet off so the game wasnt choppy, does that mean I put 7 hours into the game and enjoy it.. well, I did play for 6-7 hours.. it wasnt really fun.

The game has many design choices that for me limit the depth in game play, the combat was lacking big time and overall not scary..there is alot that may make you hang up your hat.

I.. had some great moments though, it was something I have been wanting to experience, I just wish the game played a bit better.

Still a solid 6/10, internet off and better performance - maybe a 7.

I would say Yes, on sale.

The Chant

The Chant is finally another Modern-Classic Style Survival Horror from PLAION that sports an incredibly unique atmosphere and gameplay mechanics. Playing through The Chant genuinely put a huge smile on my face, taking me back to PLAION/Deep Silver's superbly crafted (2009) Modern Classic, or now Classic, Cursed Mountain title, which was also a spiritual psychological survival horror. A theme of creativity the survival horror genre severely lacks. In the very way Cursed Mountain excelled, The Chant follows closely behind with its brilliant atmospheric world and engaging psychedelic storyline. The Chant, as with Deep Silver Vienna's Cursed Mountain, is Developer Brass Token's first project as a studio, and oh boy, what an outstanding project it is. If the title somewhat appeals to you, then don't hesitate to add it to your library. At the small ask of £20 at full price, The Chant is worth every single penny. Brass Token most definitely have some very talented staff members who have heavy experience and understanding of the genre. I would be most surprised if there weren't at least a few industry veterans behind the project. The Chant deserves a solid 8/10. Just as any twisted sadistic developer does, when you think it's all over, it certainly isn't. Stay tuned for The Chant's free DLC 'The Gloom Below,' which is like a whole new game of its own, based in a whole new genre.

The Chant: The Gloom Below

The Chant: The Gloom Below pays its respects to classic Dungeon Crawlers, with six interestingly fleshed-out map sections which all hold their own unique challenges. As with all classic dungeon crawlers, death is an important part of the experience. When facing death, the player will restart with all skills, upgrades, shortcuts, and key quest items achieved before death. You then have to do a quick loot search around the entrances of the sections to somewhat restock your weapons and throwable supplies as best you can before returning to the quest goal you were pursuing before death. There's a catch, though: the enemies respawn. The Gloom Below is a game that heavily frustrated me at first, because it doesn't hold your hand. It literally plonks you into the game and leaves you to work it all out for yourself, which is the beauty of it, really. It's faithful and true to its Dungeon Crawler aesthetic design. I played through on the normal difficulty, which really felt more like a hard mode, but due to my deep-rooted personal issues, I couldn't bear to change the difficulty down to easy, so I simply took the time and effort to invest myself into The Gloom to achieve my goal of escaping this wretched place once and for all. The Gloom Below challenged me at various times throughout and played a huge part in the sense of reward and achievement I felt when I got the credits to roll. That's truly something that takes you back to those childhood gaming days when you could spend a few days or weeks, even, on a particular part of a game trying over and over, often into triple digits, until you break down the walls and reign supreme, brushing off the dust from your shoulder with the blade of your sword, along with a cheeky grin while soaking in the sense of pride and achievement. The Gloom Below is not going to be everyone's cup of tea. It's wildly different from the base game in almost every way, but those who stick with it and learn its mechanics will be in for a rollercoaster ride of fun. But unlike the fairground, The Gloom Below is completely free and offers an entirely new gaming experience. I have to commend PLAION and Brass Token for this decision. It's a very generous offering and reminded me of why I have loved and supported the PLAION family for so many years now. The Gloom Below still deserves the base game rating I gave of 8/10, but this one's thickly coated in marmite, so you're either going to hate it or you're going to love it. For the price of free, I'd recommend you take on the challenge. I'm really glad that I did.

It's not that bad as far as the story goes or even the gameplay even if its a bit janky, but there are way better games in the genre, and performance is atrocious, it has one of the worst bugs i've seen that makes the game stutter like its dropping frames every 2 seconds, the solution is "simple" but it affects at your playtime or achievements or both.

You actually need to play this game setting steam in offline mode, then after each session or right before the ending (After recovering the mask), turn steam into online mode again and boot the game and load the save, you'll get the achievements, but probably playtime will stay low, just like it happened to me. I got it in a bundle, and i hate leaving bad reviews, but only play it if you really like the whole cult vibe it has otherwise play any other horror game.

战斗系统做的贼烂了。这游戏强行搞了一大堆女主很弱鸡的设定，面对怪物女主会被各种惊吓导致无法攻击。而且不能太恋战也会导致游戏设定的女主角惊恐发作，秒变回合制游戏，剧情也是那种宗教，邪教的套路。非常的小的地图区域需要来回跑来跑去。

Played the full main game and DLC and would recommend. It was a cool take on a survival horror game using a "yoga retreat" as a jumping point. It was funny having to use and collect essential oils, sage and crystals to fight off some bad vibes and well, I'll just call them demons. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely not cheesy. There's a known stutter bug and an easy work around (play offline or run the .exe from the actual folder). If you want the achievements you'll just have to load it as an online game for everything to pop. I would recommend the DLC, it's a different playstyle, but you'll get a more satisfying ending to the overall story. Great storyline and creepy atmosphere.

Esse jogo é muito bom, quem gosta de espiritualidade vai se sentir em casa jogando, a ambientação entrega muito tanto nas horas calmas, quanto nas horas de horror. O designer do mapa é extremamente
satisfatório, os puzzles são legais e a história é bem trabalhada, apesar de ficar muito louca do meio pro final. Tive o bug do stuttering, mas depois de alguns minutos com o jogo aberto ele normaliza e da pra jogar de boa, por mais que seja incomodo a vontade de jogar e descobrir todo o universo do game deixou esse bug irrelevante.

Realistic depiction of what it's like to be a member of church of scientology.

Right of the bat I want to address the stuttering, not sure why it keeps happening every time I launch the game and then after 10 minutes it goes away, no need for any workarounds as other people may suggest. It's almost as if it's compiling shaders, except that's not the case. Definitely not a good first impression.

Otherwise, the game is fine. The combat may seem daunting at first but once you get used to dodging it's a cakewalk. The puzzles are more of an afterthought. The graphics are nice, the world is fun to explore, the story is captivating and so is the overall atmosphere.

Not for me. Even when playing offline to get rid of the stutters, the combat/evasive maneuvers just feels too janky for me to sink my time into trying to get to work. I keep dying and not in a way that feels like I need to “get gud” like a well-tuned souls-like, but more like “I can’t move fast enough to do anything useful”

The concept is really cool, but it’s a hassle enough that I don’t want to bother continuing. I’m more likely to watch the full playthrough on YouTube, which I’ll likely do, since the story is great.

Я мав невисокі очікування щодо цього жахастика-виживастика, але йому вдалося мене приємно вразити!

Може графіка тут і не топова, але візуальний стиль здатен зачарувати своїми контрастними барвами.

Музичний супровід, просякнутий вайбом фантастичних жахів 70х років, чудово доповнює сетинг гри. Але іноді він так виділяється, що навіть трохи відволікає.

Геймплей переважно нагадує Сайренто Хіру. Але боївка тут не така монотонна. Різні монстри поводять себе по-різному і методи боротьби із ними теж відмінні, тож використовувати одну й ту саму тактику тут не вийде.
Самі чудовиська, до речі, виглядають гарно. Дизайн локацій та головоломок теж на рівні.

Система здоров'я та прокачки персонажки тут доволі оригінальна.
Є три параметри: Розум, Тіло та Дух. Вони пронизують навички, стиль бою, вибір у діалогах, тощо. Той параметр, який ви будете найбільше юзати протягом гри, в кінці стане визначальним. Щоправда, відобразиться це лише на тому, яку з трьох фінальних кат-сцен ви побачите. Сама ж гра насправді є цілком лінійною.

แต่เห็นถึงความพยายามจะใส่อะไรต่างๆให้เกมดูมีฟอร์มที่ดีน่าสนใจ จริงๆคอนเซปน่าสนใจมาก

แต่มาเสียนิดหนึ่งตรง เนื้อเรื่องที่เหมือนจะมีอะไรแต่สุดท้ายก็แอบบางเบากว่าที่คิดแถมติด งง หน่อยๆด้วย

คือ เกมเพลย์ก็ออกแบบมาดีน่าสนใจ ปุ่มก็ไม่ได้กดยากเกินไป มีไอเทมให้เลือกใช้ เลือกคราฟ

โดยรวมถือว่าให้คำว่า "โอเค" ไม่แย่นะ แต่ทั้งหมดทั้งมวล คือ "เกือบดีย์" ถ้าเค้าคัดเกลาเพิ่มหรือเพิ่มทุน(มั้ง)

ตัวเกมน่าจะว้าวได้มากกว่านี้ แต่ที่ชอบที่สุดคือถึงตัวเกมจะยังไงก็ตาม แต่เหมือนคนดูก็สามารถสนุกไปด้วยกันได้

I had to put steam in offline mode in order to play the game without stuttering. Not sure why that was a thing, but it was.
As an experienced psychonaut, I was intrigued with the psychedelic element, but I wasn't expecting to enjoy the game as much as I did.
I sat and played the game through in one five hour sitting, and while at times (particularly later in the game) it does feel as though it loses direction a little, there is enough lore and atmosphere to keep you engaged.
Not the scariest game ever, but it has its moments.
I imagine there are people who would find issues with the combat system, but I thought it actually worked really well - USE your throwables!
If your hardware is capable - the game is beautiful with maxed out settings;
sound design is awesome - very immersive with a good headset.

The story limited what could be done with this game - I would've liked to have been able to enjoy a lot more content, but within the constraints of the story, I don't think they could've found room for much more gameplay.

Definitely recommend.
Especially if you can pick up a key for a couple of $$'s!

This is effectively unplayable on Steam Deck, due to the stuttering and dropped frames. Other reviewers mention launching the game from its installer folder, rather than via Steam, resolve this problem—but that's not really an option on the Steam Deck. I would suggest you not buy this game.

Recommended for players who loves survival and fighting horror games. Even in the story mode this game contains much fight. The graphic is really cute and the ideas behind the plot are nice, but since the begin you have to combat various monsters and there's a gameplay not so easy. I personally don't like this kind of game, but like I said for who loves this kind of gameplay can be a good purchase. For other players like me is a pity...

游戏剧情有点一般，虽说编排得还算那么回事，但没什么特别有趣的地方；游戏性我能接受，类似魂游的打几下闪一下的方式，简单明了易上手，而像普通人那样因闪避而倒地的动作，我觉得做得不错“很合理”，个人表示赞赏。总的来说，虽然创意不多、亮点不多，但是制作方技术力很好，关卡设计、贴图建模、动捕面捕、动作流畅度、优化等等都处于比较好的水平，要不是光影渲染落后了一个时代，游戏卖像肯定能更好。

Атмосферный хоррор, с упором на психологический ужас и мистику. Сюжет, к сожалению, не произвёл на меня сильного впечатления, идея с духовным ретритом и уходом в эзотерику мне не очень интересна. К персонажам не проникаешься, им не хватает глубины, чтобы за них переживать. Но с атмосферой здесь всё в порядке, она давит и вызывает чувство тревоги. Отдельный плюс - наличие русской озвучки, усиливает погружение в историю.

Что касается завязки… Наша героиня по имени Джесс в попытках починить свою менталку, после травмирующего события в прошлом, по наставлению своей, безусловно, «умной» подруги Ким отправляется на странный остров, где проводится духовный ретрит, который, ой, ну ни разу не выглядит со стороны как секта, о чем пошутит даже сама Джесс. Добравшись до нужного места, наша героиня повстречает различных персонажей с «глубокой» проработкой. Как говорится, золотая либеральная молодёжь во всей красе. Тут и соевая антипрививочница Майя, которая готова жрать любые опасные грибы и не только, но не готова поставить прививку своему сыну. И парень по имени Сонни, который нужен просто, чтобы проспонсировать всю эту странную движуху, но чьи комплексы больше его собственного кошелька и не только. Блондинка Хлоя, которая настолько боится одиночества, что готова подписаться под любую xyǔню, и по всей видимости даже дать в туза, зная что ей пользуются. Ну и как же без косящего под Иисуса, лидера этой «ни разу не секты», с не менее странным именем Тайлер Антон, который своим появлением всегда напоминает о том, что на экране мы наблюдаем трэш-пародию на «Солнцестояние». Колоритные персонажи, не правда ли? Так вот, во время группового ритуала пения, кто бы мог подумать, что-то идёт не так. Крики, ругань, рукоприкладство. Ким впадает в истерику, срывая церемонию, и… опачки, xyǔ коснулся пoпoчкu, неожиданно открывается портал во Мрак, пугающее измерение, где виднеется существо, которое похоже то ли на пасть демогоргона из ОСД, то ли на пuздy женщины в климаксе. Ну, а дальше играйте сами.

Ладно с сюжетом все понятно, но что там с геймплеем и с остальным? Геймплей представляет собой незамысловатый экшен с легкой боевкой, где у нас есть легкий и тяжёлый удары с уворотом, а на сдачу пару способностей. Все это сопровождается ноткой легкого сурвайвл-хоррора, где необходимо собирать ресурсы, чтобы хиляться, чинить менталку, ну и крафтить веники для борьбы с нечистью. Кстати о вениках, они разные, под каждый тип врага - свой веник, который наносит урон лучше определенному типу противников. Спасибо, конечно, папаша, за разнообразие, но эти веники очень быстро ломаются, а ресурсов может и не быть, поэтому нередко просто приходится убегать от врагов, ибо оружия никакого просто нет или ковырять тем, что есть, но менее эффективно. Исследование мира построено по принципу «нашел новую xyǔню, открыл новую зону, изучаешь» и так далее, что в принципе норм, учитывая, что лор тут еще более менее интересно изучать через записки. Некоторые механики, например, я так и не понял для чего вообще были нужны, наша героиня боится темноты, тем самым она не может бегать в потемках, что от силы за игру используется пару раз. Касательно графической составляющей, для бюджетного проекта пойдет, есть косяки, но на это можно закрыть глаза (например, когда на это действительно невыносимо смотреть, гы). Вот дизайн противников совсем какой-то скучный и не пугающий, это вкусовщина, но я не думаю, что кого-то может сильно испугать цветок с зубами или абориген с головой лошади.

Хороша ли эта игра, как хоррор в духе RE или SH? Нет и нет. Абсолютное нет. Рекомендую ли я ее к прохождению? Ну, тут скорее да, чем нет. По крайней мере, история и окружение, все еще могут вызывать интерес, даже интриговать, да и сам игровой процесс не так уж и плох и свою базовую функцию выполняет. Но мне игра все же понравилась, а именно своей неуклюжестью и абсурдностью происходящего.

I really enjoyed playing The Chant. The story was interesting and well paced, and I honestly didn't get bored while playing. It kept me engaged from start to finish.

I also really liked the mix between combat and choice-based gameplay, and the game has a strong Stranger Things kind of vibe, which made the atmosphere even more enjoyable.

I liked the upgrade system a lot, especially the fact that it’s divided into Mind, Body, and Spirit. It feels simple but effective, and it actually fits the game’s theme really well. The crafting system was also a nice surprise, it’s easy to use, even during combat, which keeps the gameplay flowing instead of slowing everything down.

The powers are a great idea and add variety to the gameplay. That said, some of the dodging felt a bit buggy, especially against certain enemies, but nothing game-breaking or frustrating enough to ruin the experience.

If I had to mention a negative point (and this is just my personal opinion) it would be the collectables letters and notes you find throughout the game about the story/lore. A lot of them were really hard to read, almost impossible for me to fully understand (fading effect). On top of that, there were just wayyy too many of them! At times, it honestly pulled me out of the game because it felt like more reading than playing and ended up not reading them at all...

The only part I really didn’t liked was in the green zone, killing those small flying enemies with the crystal laser just felt boring and pointless to me, It was awkward to use and completely useless. I felt like "Okay, just, whyyyy?"

That being said, overall, The Chant is a really nice game. I finished it in about 14 hours over two days (including the DLC), and I was taking my time exploring, running around, and just enjoying the atmosphere. It was a fun experience !

I also feel like this is a game that’s much better played with a controller. Playing with keyboard and mouse felt pretty awkward to me. (Worked with my PlayStation controller)

Antes que nada quería dejar un consejo para que podáis jugar en condiciones, ya que al igual que la mayoría de personas he sufrido tirones con caídas de hasta 20 FPS cada 2-3 segundos... Yo he probado 2 métodos diferentes con los que se puede jugar a la perfección sin el más mínimo problema, así que os lo dejo en la reseña por si a alguien le ayuda.

·Método 1 : Antes de abrir el juego, ve a ajustes de red en tu PC y desactiva tu conexión. (No entiendo porque un juego offline singleplayer se ve afectado al estar conectado a la red, pero funciona 100%)

·Método 2: Haz click derecho sobre la imagen del juego y ve a archivos locales, dentro de la carpeta está el launcher "TheChant.exe" abre el juego como administrador y también desaparecerá el problema.

- Con ambos métodos te encontrarás con el problema de que no tienes acceso a la interfaz de steam, y por consiguiente no obtendrás los logros, pero una vez acabes de jugarlo y lo vuelvas a abrir desde steam se sincronizará y empezarás a obtener de golpe todos los logros que hayas conseguido en la partida.

El juego es una pasada, no es muy largo depende de tu habilidad en este tipo de combate o de exploración, pero una media estaría entre 4-6h.

La atmósfera está muy bien lograda y se siente la tensión a medida que avanzas por la isla. Lo considero un juego MUY a tener en cuenta ya que aunque haya muchos del mismo género, nunca he jugado a uno que ofrezca una perspectiva espiritual y cada detalle está muy cuidado.

Got on sale very cheap, enjoyed it much more than I expected a Survival horror at its most simple, with a nice cult plot. Some quite poor lip syncing let it down a bit. A bit fiddly in places. Made me thinks lots of Alan Wake and Oxenfree while playing. Runs about 10 hours with DLC and not achivement hunting

Bought it because the music is done by the same person Paul Ruskay who did Homeworld and that was a big enough pull.

Very nice game with a compelling story. Good voice acting. The story might be predictable - but I was never a whiny youtuber to cry my heart out about that and sencerelly suggest You not to be aswel.
The only complaint: the Spirit/Mind/Body advancing is underbalanced. In the mane story the spirit doesn't really regenerate, so all the spells are essentially useless where as in DLC it's the only thing You really use. If there would be star-rating system I'd give 3.5-4 out of 5

Good introduction to Horror games for players new to the Genre - not too scary, has few jumpscare moments, but a creepy vibe.
Good graphics and facial expressions. Story has some mystery to it and decent characters, so it's properly engaging.
Combat medium difficulty - if you are careless, you can run into trouble, since there is limited inventory space for crucial items like healing.
You should make use of your Upgrades in the menu and use the correct weapons and utilities against the corresponding enemies. I'm not sure if I didn't pay enough attention to instructions, but I didn't use Upgrades the majority of the game and also used the wrong weapons and utilities for half of the game, but I still managed well.
It's possible to speedrun the game under 4 hours since you can just run past most enemies. My 10 hr playthrough was definitely too long since I tried to manage situations better and replayed them.
Also I ran into a bug where an elevator didn't work and I had to cap my fps to 60 for that section and replay the Chapter. Later I thought I ran into another bug, so I replayed that Chapter as well, but turned out I was at the wrong spot to continue since the game instructions at that point were obtuse.

After all it is a decent game and for 2,50€ when it's on sale not a bad pickup.

**** (of 5) Intense dark story about a cult on an island that used people in a sect. You discover the story as Jess. the atmosphere is really scary and well done. the story takes you in and you are constantly afraid, that your weapons run out while you run into some dark biests of the gloom. The only drawback is, that the combat system is somewhat clunky but on the other hand quite special. You can't just attack and hit you really have to rely on ducking and getting out of the biests attacks before you can start to tackle them.

The Chant is basically an incredible psychedelic/psychological horror movie with a mediocre game attached to it... I think the combat is clunky, the puzzles and survival aspects don't really add anything new to the survival horror genre... but I got it at 90% off and it seems to be at that price regularly and I can recommend playing it at that price... this game really made we feel anxious and generally horrible in a way most horror material doesn't and i think that makes up for the lack-luster gaming experience personally.

I enjoyed the game. (would recommend to wait for it to be on sale, though)

but there are some issues:
1) I experienced horrible frame stuttering when launched through Steam. I had to launch the game through my computer files to play it without the stuttering. So no Steam achievements and no time recorded, if that's something you care about.
2) the Voice Acting felt pretty... meh most of the time. The dialogue wasn't great and was pretty bland. However the worldbuilding of it was good. And I enjoyed the notes you found around about previous people who lived on the island, and the different bestiaries you find
3) Not really an issue with the game, probably just a skill issue on my part, but the beginning feels a bit harsh for resource management. Or maybe my peepers are not as great as they used to be.
4) combat felt a bit clunky. But once you learn how to lay down traps, things get a lot better and easier to handle 2 or more enemies.

The visuals were still nice, and I really liked the concept of the Gloom.

Es ist immer wieder schön, wenn man nach Jahren ein Spiel aus der Steam-Bibliothek zieht und das Ding einen einfach umhaut.
Von Anfang an ist man in der Geschichte gefangen, schaltet Stück für Stück neue Fähigkeiten frei und kämpft sich durch Höhlen und psychedelische Albträume!
Eine Attacke hat mich hin und wieder zum Ausrasten gebracht, aber abgesehen davon ist das Spiel absolut genial!

Perhaps with more budget this could've been something unique. As it stands now, the low production value detract from the overall goal of the game to invoke tension.

The mood is great, and reminded me of something that Remedy would do. In the end, the awful facial animations, slow movement, and unsatisfying combat encounters make this feel like the team just didn't have the resources necessary to pull off their vision.

Nach dem Start leidet das Spiel für etwa 10–15 Minuten unter starkem shader-ruckeln im Zwei-Sekunden-Takt. Das ist nicht nur störend, sondern unterbricht den Spielfluss erheblich. Abgesehen davon läuft das Spiel stabil und bietet eine solide Optik.

Geschichte
Hier wird viel Potential verschenkt. Wichtige Charaktere werden nicht eingeführt, sodass man am Ende das Gefühl hat, dass zentrale Figuren ungenutzt bleiben. Die Handlung dreht sich im Kern um sechs Charaktere, deren Tiefe jedoch oberflächlich bleibt. Dramatische Momente verlieren ihre Wirkung, da sie oft direkt im Anschluss durch banale Smalltalk entwertet werden. Dadurch entsteht ein Bruch in der Atmosphäre, der die emotionale Wirkung schwächt.

Gameplay
Im Prinzip ist jedes Kapitel gleich aufgebaut: eine lineare Schlüssel-Suche, um weiterzukommen. Nur in einem einzigen Kapitel wird kurzzeitig ein anderer Ansatz gewählt – ein Ausreißer, der jedoch nur einen kurzen Abschnitt betrifft. Insgesamt wirkt die Struktur repetitiv und wenig inspiriert.

Das Kampfsystem ist erfrischend und gelungen. Man fühlt sich nie übermächtig, sondern stets verwundbar, was hervorragend zur Atmosphäre passt. Leider fehlt eine Einführung oder ein Tutorial, um die Komplexität des Systems verständlich zu machen. Dadurch bleibt ein „Minus im Plus“: starkes System, aber nicht ausreichend erklärt.

Steuerung
Mit dem Steam Controller sind alle Eingaben intuitiv und schnell verinnerlicht. Die Steuerung funktioniert zuverlässig und unterstützt den Spielfluss.

Grafik
Die Grafik ist sehr gelungen und unterstützt gängige Upscaling-Methoden. Sie trägt zur Atmosphäre bei und vermittelt einen hochwertigen Eindruck.

Fazit
The Chant ist ein Spiel voller guter Ideen und spürbarem Potential, das jedoch an seiner Umsetzung scheitert. Technische Probleme zu Beginn, verschenkte narrative Chancen und repetitives Gameplay verhindern, dass die positiven Elemente – insbesondere das Kampfsystem – ihre volle Wirkung entfalten.

Am Ende bleibt ein Titel, der neugierig macht, aber letztlich ohne Bedeutung verhallt. Das Spiel hat mich leer zurückgelassen – nicht, weil es keine Ansätze für Tiefe hätte, sondern weil es diese nicht konsequent nutzt. Die kurze Spielzeit von knapp 7 Stunden kamen mir vor wie 30 Stunden.

.It laags so much that its almost a stop motion exsperience both in the cutscene and while playing the game.
.And the developers have left the game so no fixes / Patches coming.
A game title in the dumbster (thank god i bought it on sale)
And never buying from Developer Brass Token
or Publisher Prime Matter again.

if you like horror games vibes
this one isn't perfect ... but it's good
good atmosphere, short but nice story
its kinda remind me of a movie or TV series i watched somewhere maybe on Netflix, not sure.

just make sure to grab it on discount .... sometime it often goes %80-90% off,
something around 3$ really worth it

So far, yes, but first off, for those having a constant stuttering issue, trying running the games .exe as an administrator. You see it happening in the main menu as the mist moves fine, stutters, then moves fine, stutters, etc. Running as Admin fixed the issue. Saw this commented on in another review, so I wanted to make sure others saw this potential fix.

Beyond that, it works fine and plays fine. The story is interesting so far, but i'm still near the beginning.

Wanted to purchase at G O G, but for some reason, the price was $9.xx vs $6.xx here on Steam. Disappointed I was being charged a penalty for choosing another platform over Steam.

I give The Chant 3/5.
Starting at the beginning, you believe the pregnant woman is somehow going to be related to the story. Spoiler: she is not. The intro is there to give you a taste of the horrors ahead. And honestly, it doesn't give enough of a taste because for most of the game, I am shrieking and jumping and cursing the screen. So yeah, it is kind of scary. The music helps boost the feeling of paranoia and unease. On the downside, the mouths don't match the dialogue, the story is rushed. You play Jess, and not even an hour after arriving to this cul- retreat, they drink a tea and ♥♥♥♥ goes sideways. There's not much exploring, or story telling after that. I mean, throughout the game you'll pick up notes and papers that explain more about the characters, but the game only slows down for a minute or two in between chapters and picks right back up. Most of the puzzles are straightforward. The enemies, although some look slightly different, are still the same. You can fight each of them the same way, and they'll all die easily. Honestly, choose a power or weapon based on what looks better with Jess. They all work the same.

Очень скучная и посредственная игра. Сюжет вообще ни какой. Нас кидают на остров с сектантами и делают намеки, что главная ГГ что-то сделала со своей сестрой. Что она сделала, как ее подругу привело на этот остров, истории других "сектантов" и беременяшки в начале... должно раскрываться посредством сюжета (я не добралась до финала), записок и фильмов.
Механика и прокачка тоже достаточно слабые. Т.е. ты получаешь какой-нибудь "ор" для битвы. Используешь на первом встречном монстре и...И забываешь об этой способности до финала. Травок-муравок очень мало. Или беги, или умудряйся этим благовонием попасть сразу по 2 монстрам.
О, а это великолепие с паузой! Пауза как-бы есть, а как-бы и нет. Стоишь читаешь записульки, а ГГ сходит с ума и тратит все свои "мозги" (рассудок). А девушка эта, паникует постоянно. Света нет? Паника. Налетели комары? Паника.
И почему это еще похоже на Резидент? А потому что сюда умудрились запихнуть загадку с ключами, обьединение и поиском этих деталек. Ну прямо слизано со старых частей.

Может быть, кому-то игра зайдет. Надо пробовать вам...Но для меня, это очень плохое "кино"

Saw this title on sale for the steam scream. 90% off. Figured, why not. Boy oh boy was I pleasantly surprised. Want to go on an island retreat and experience some craziness, this is for you. The combat feels good. The enemies are well designed and creepy. The exploration is nice! At the time of this review I haven't fully beaten the dlc but enjoying it so far. All in all, this game is very enjoyable. Even if I paid the full price I would've been happy with it. GOLD ZOMBEHH HAND STAMP OF APPROVAL!! Solid 9/10!

Really great atmosphere if you like horror but it's poorly designed mechanics make it really tough to get through. All weapons and health Regen has to be scavenged and there's just not enough of it to have a fair chance. What a waste of great potential

For anyone with stutter problems the only thing that fixed mine was running it as administrator. So if other fixes fail that might be it.

Soo just finished it and although admin fixes it, it also messed up achievements and it wont let you play the dlc. So if you just picked this up and got the weird stutters when you start its probably better to skip this one.

Story wasn't great all characters where dumb as hell on top of crazy. Game looks good but then the gameplay is a bit annoying reminded me of Illbleed a bit.

Ta gra to trochę taki slepper. Niby z wierzchu się nie wyróżnia, ale potrafi zaskoczyć.

Czy jest natomiast warta ogrania w ogólnym podsumowaniu?
Gdyby na Steam istniała ocena neutralna, to taką bym przyznał. Ale nie istnieje więc minimalnie w kierunku pozytywu.
Na duży plus klimat i historia wokół sekty, to zawsze jest dobry temat do rozwałkowania jeśli chodzi o dreszczowce czy horrory i ta gra w pewien sposób to właśnie wykorzystuje.
Dźwięk, muzyka, ambient mogą być, nie przeszkadzają ani nie budują napięcia.
Zaskakująco dobra polska lokalizacja. Poważnie, słuchałem wyrywkowo oryginalny dubbing i wypada gorzej niż PL. Nie mam pojęcia z czego to wynika, ale należy się duża pochwała. Skąd zaskoczenie? Bo to nie jest żaden tytuł premium AAA, ale lektorzy dali radę.
Ogólna grywalność i przyjemność odbioru są OK. Tytuł jest strawny, ale czuć "amerykańskość", czuć zużyte już wyznaczniki w stylu jedziemy na wakacje i nas zabijają, lub idziemy do sekty i... też nas zabijają xD typowo oklepany schemat. Ale już cała ta pryzmatyka jest dość oryginalnym podejściem.

Minusy...
Ktoś gdzieś w komentarzach napisał, że gra dla bab... cóż, trochę tak właśnie zalatuje, ale trzeba brać pod uwagę, że główna protagonistka to kobieta i ma swoje fobie. To nie jest twardzielka pokroju Lary Croft ;)
Grafika - to jest pięta achillesowa... Nie wiem czy ta gra tak długo powstawała, że aż się graficznie zestarzała przed wydaniem, czy to jest coś niedopracowanego. Na RTX 4070 nie schodziła z 160-170 fps, dopiero w dodatku były spadki do 130. O ile animacje są dopracowane, to mogli śmiało ich jakość przenieść na gameplay, byłoby warto.
Indoktrynacja big-pharma. To jest coś czego nie zniosę w grach, wkładanie i pozycjonowanie "zabiegów medycznych", propagowanie jedynie słusznego bezmyślnego opychania się i faszerowania farmaceutykami. Ch** mnie strzela za wciskanie takiego gówna. Gry to nie miejsce na indoktrynacje medyczne czy lgbtqwerty asd asf WC i innego podobnego syfu. A tutaj już zaczynali w jednym z rozdziałów wchodzić z tematem bez mydła.

Po zagraniu w dodatek, który zakupiłem z grą podstawową muszę zmienić zdanie.
Ostatecznie negatyw. Dodatek jest kompletnie pie*****. Strata czasu. Prawie 4h w d! Za każdym wyłączeniem gry znika postęp i trzeba zdobywać fabularne zasoby od nowa. Trzeba być je*** żeby wymyślić coś takiego.
Dodatkowo, DLC to jeden wielki labirynt, co powoduje sztuczne wydłużanie czasu gry. Kompletna beznadzieja. Zapowiadało się ciekawie a skończyło gorzej niż podstawka.

Za marny grosz można polecić podstawową grę, dodatku nie ruszaj jeśli szanujesz swoje zdrowie.

Decent action horror game. So I had heard this game was good and it was recently 90% off on a Steam sale, so I thought I’d give it a try. It was definitely a uniquely fun game but what did I think?

Starting with the visuals, I think the game looks pretty decent as it runs on Unreal engine but the character models were surprisingly well detailed, especially the facial animations.

The gameplay reminded me of the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot actually, in that it’s an action adventure game with RPG elements as you level up various stats throughout the game. I quite liked how the game handled the skill tree as you gain XP based on the 3 stats of Mind, Body and Spirit but once you have enough XP you still need to find these prism jars to spend on upgrades, which encourages you to explore. Although on that note, this game really needs a map, as you often have to rely on sign posts to tell where to go next but it’s easy to get lost at times. Though the devs must have realized that because the Gloom Below DLC actually has a map you can use, so there’s that I guess.

I liked how your weapons in the game weren’t just your usual metal pipe or whatever, but rather sage sticks that do different types of damage and work best against certain enemy types. I also liked the different abilities you get to use in combat like calling up spikes to stab enemies or one later one that calls up these hands to grab enemies and do damage to them. The combat can be clunky at first when you're getting to grips with it, and they have this really bad parry system where you have to hit a button when an indicator comes up to parry an enemy's attack. I only really got the hang of it towards the end of the game and it wasn’t as intuitive as something like the Batman Arkham games, where the parry was something I got used to immediately. I just bring that up because it's what it reminded me of.

On the technical side, the game ran mostly fine but there were some issues here and there. The game would slow down and lag during some intense moments in combat when using the big AOE abilities but it would stabilize pretty quickly. There were times when enemies got stuck in terrain or would just stand still while I beat them. And there was one bug where my character got stuck in one spot during the final boss forcing me to restart the fight which was annoying.

As for the story it was alright for the most part. You can pick up dairy entries that fill in the back story and I did like the main cast of characters for the most part. It does deal with heavy mental health topics, with each character you interact with (and ultimately fight as a boss) going through something different. It was okay overall but the campaign did feel a little too short. Plus the endings are their own can of worms. There are 3 endings depending on which stat you have the most XP in by the end of the game. I got the mind ending which I guess is the canon one, since it leads straight into the Gloom Below DLC which I’m currently playing through. The other 2 I went and watched online and they are pretty bad in that they don’t really give the characters proper closure.

But overall, this is a decent time. Not one I would say you have to play but not bad if you do.

Honestly, I had way more fun playing this than Silent Hill f. Some good story points, the found reels are great to watch, and overall I wanted to keep playing. A lot of games I play these days feel like a chore and I don't finish because I realize I'm not having fun. This one was short, engaging, and had more combat mechanics than I expected. But most of all, it was fun.
