The Blackwell Epiphany is the last game in the Blackwell series.
A dead man's soul cries out against the force of a ferocious blizzard. He cries for help. He cries for answers. Then he screams as he is torn apart like damp tissue paper. This wasn't the first time, and it won't be the last. The police are powerless to stop it, so the duty falls to the only ones who can. What force could be so powerful – and so malevolent – that it would destroy the very core of a life in order to get what it wants? Rosa Blackwell and Joey Mallone mean to find out, even if it means risking themselves in the process.

Fun game, great story, good puzzles
I agree with a number of people that feel somewhat mixed about the way this series ended... but overall, I very much enjoyed the experience. I feel like the way the game ended matched the overall tone of the series. As usual, the ost, atmosphere, and art are all fantastic.
The story is pretty good, though it did feel like there was some loose plot threads by the end of the game. That wasn't enough to sour the experience for me though.
Great ending to the series, great writing...
God what a good game, what a good series! I'm later than late to the party but I'll be damned if that means I didn't throw down. It's one of those unfortunate situations where you hate an ending not because it's bad but because it's an ending and you want more and more and more. It's ironic, if you really think about it, the series about moving on and not holding onto the past making me want to keep holding on. But that's just a testament to how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing this story is. I have a plethora of problems with certain aspects of the gameplay, sure, but every one of those problems gets dwarfed by how fun the characters and stories and conclusions are. If I had to rate this series on a scale of 10? It'd be a 20, even if I had to use walkthroughs a few times.
Good story, music and emotional good ending to the series
I see Wadjet Eye game, I play.
Amazing conclusion to the series. The ending blew my mind and made me sad that it was finally over. This made the entire series worth playing through and I REALLY WISH we could get another game like this. 10/10
The whole Blackwell series is awesome!
spannende Story, schöne 2D grafik 😊👍
This is the longest game of the series, and maybe the most interesting one. The ending is... Not entirely expected.
A disappointing and illogical ending after the previous enjoyable 4 entries.
This final game is an incoherent mix of the previous Blackwell+Joey team, shock value and sudden super-powers.
ok
TOTAL DOWNER AND IT HURTS BUT OK I REC BECAUSE I DIDNT EXPECT TO HURT LIKE THIS
One of the bests point & click games that i've ever played!
Well that was a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ downer. I've put zero effort into avoiding spoilers below, sorry.
Okay, to be fair, this is a really good game. I loved it, loved the twist, loved the gameplay. It was honestly the best-composed game in the series in basically every way. It was excellent.
But man that conclusion was just so unsatisfying.
Like what was even the point of Rosa as a character? Her ancestor's lives sucked, her life sucked, and then she dies and it's like "well sucks to be her." Like what was the conclusion here, "Sometimes your family gets cursed into oblivion and everyone dies, sucks to be you?"
And it's hard to not point out what a typical fridging that was. It was some really, really basic "women's power to is sacrifice themselves" stuff that honestly felt incongruous with the rest of the game, and it basically cut Rosa's character arc off at the knees. She has no character arc now.
What bothers me is there were so many better options. For one, having them both live free and happy would have felt completely earned, especially considering everyone else in the game basically dies, and it would have meant something to see the 'end' of the Blackwell Legacy and the freeing of the family. But I also would have liked to see, say, a Rosa who now will have to deal with periodic mental health episodes as a consequence for what she did; I think this would have been a very nuanced and interesting ending, her freeing Joey and her family but it affecting her permanently. And I think Joey giving up his soul to save Rosa would also have been a great bittersweet ending, or maybe him just moving on now that the crisis has been averted -- an epilogue scene about her trying to readjust to life without him would have been pretty moving, I think.
I think Rosa never getting a character resolution is bad for her, but I also think Joey being like, "Well, okay. Guess I just have to go live my life or whatever," was also a really unsatisfying conclusion for him. His story has been about not being able to save people and trying to find his purpose-- to have to end with him saving Rosa would have brought things full circle. But now he just kind of... peters out. He doesn't gain any clarity or sense of purpose, or even the insight that 'purpose' isn't real or is besides the point -- he just meanders away from the screen.
The ending also weirdly circumvents any resolution to the smaller plot of this game -- why don't we see Durkin again and find out how the case went? I wanted so badly to see Rosa tell him the truth, but barring that, why not see him putting some things together on his own? Or at least show us how he reacts and interprets everything. And because the rest of the cast is dead (lol) there's no one else to check in with, so the game kind of just... stops... after the climax.
I get the sense that this was another "protag death = edgy, edgy = deep" writing decision. But those decisions are so cheesy and over-the-top, -- melodrama is the opposite of deep, it's the most trite and obvious choice, and also uninteresting. Seeing Rosa deal with the fallout of everything is way, way more interesting than there not being anything to wrap up. And again, making a character arc that spanned like 10 years and 5 games go nowhere just sucked.
Okay, I've said my piece about the ending. Let's talk about the good stuff.
First, this isn't just me in 2025 talking, the implication is Joey was in love with Danny, right? And was jealous when Danny started seeing his girlfriend? And then literally sacrificed his life for him at their spiffy clothing shop because he loved him so much? I genuinely can't think of any other interpretation of Madeline saying, "Your whole aura lights up when you talk about Danny," along with everything else about their plotline and how the relationship is portrayed. I wish this had been made explicit at the end, since I think it adds so much to Joey's character and the way he interacts with the world.
I did not see the twist coming and really enjoyed it. I think the trajectory of protag fails miserably and everyone dies > protag finds a way to save the world was really satisfying, and losing the two ghosts after all that was SUCH a gut punch, as was seeing Rosa lose her mind and realizing what happened to all the Blackwells... it all worked so well for me. It was such an emotional rollercoaster.
I said above I was a little disappointed to see this turn toward a conspiracy plot last game but I ended up really liking how it worked out. Yeah there was a save-the-world conclusion but for the most part the game stayed focused on the kind of intrapersonal stuff that I liked most about it -- even the big stuff was based around people we knew so it felt personal and epic at the same time, and that was really nice.
That said... the vampire society is still out there, right? And axing Rosa means now there's no one to investigate it? That was a weird hanging thread. Surely it should have ended them pursuing the vampires as a potential way in for a sequel or even a new generation of Blackwells and spirit guides to go after them? God killing Rosa was such a bad choice. I know I said I was done but UGH.
I liked Heather's plotline a lot, it was really sweet. I also think the Fielding family's was a really nuanced look at how siblings can have completely different relationships with their own family. Emotional intelligence really continues to be WE's bread and butter.
Oh, also, I liked the modern UI. The Android 1.0 version was indeed ugly but I think the modernized version in this game was nice looking and way smoother to interact with.
On the whole, I'm glad I played this series. It was interesting and unique and thoughtful. Gilbert also was the lead on 2018's Unavowed and 2025's Old Skies, and I'm curious to see where his writing has gone in the intervening years, though neither are genres I'm particularly interested in (I hate time travel stories, they never make any sense...), and as far as I'm aware they're not detective stories, so it may be a while before I get to them.
Anyway this was certainly an interesting experience and I'm glad I played through them all even after how much I disliked the first. Definitely worth making your way through if you're in the mood for something interesting and unique, though I don't know that'd I'd consider them general recs considering the series' unevenness. But they do fall into that 'if this is the type of game you like then it's a good thing to check out' bin.
And tbh I suspect I'll remember the series more fondly once my irritation about the ending mellows with time.
edit: Omg, I can't believe I forgot to bring up my favorite part of possibly any game ever: When Ben's like wow, we should get out of here and Joey goes, "What, are you going to go haunt Jersey?" And Ben just goes, "Yes," and just floats across the Hudson into the middle distance and Joey just stands there like what the actual ♥♥♥♥. I hope that was supposed to be hilarious because it absolutely killed me, I loved it. It had real "Not one livable apartment" energy.
Ties things up nicely.
Now TELL ME WHO TOMO IS!
I'll start by explaining what I do like about this game. First off, the artwork is a huge step up from the other games in the series. This is also a much longer game than previous entries to the series. Most of the puzzles were interesting and reasonable for someone to figure out on their own, too. The game makes doing research and finding crucial information very satisfying, as this series has always done particularly well.
That being said, it is insane how hard the last 10% of the game invalidates everything you've been working towards. None of the leads that are foreshadowed to be important later are actually allowed to come to a meaningful conclusion. Some loose ends are left completely unanswered, and some are explained so directly and in such a forced way that it feels like they scrapped a quarter of the game while they were running out of time at the end of production.
Not that those explanations matter at that point, because the mystery of the Grace Group turns out to be a complete joke and Madeline was the baddie the entire time. To an extent twists in stories are fine, but the way this one was handled reduced the entire investigation into a red herring.
The ending sequence tanked the quality of the dialogue and ripped apart the story I was bought into. It felt like a cheap way to end a series and was so contrived, over-the-top, and gave me so many "Oh, I guess
Rosa can do that now for some reason, with no explanation of how any of this works
" that something as big as
Rosa's death and Joey's revival
just made me feel like it was worked in to try to get some cheap emotional reaction for very little investment and a very sudden change in tone. Some elements of the ending might have even worked if literally any of it were alluded to earlier in the story. As much as I would like to recommend this game, it feels like a narrative rugpull and a very disappointing way to end a series that I liked quite a lot and a game that I had high hopes for.
gg
A fine and intuitive point-and-click that shows pretty clearly the pieces of other even better games falling into place. You can even play it with a commentary track to find out what the devs were thinking at various points, which I think is a really nice touch. Fittingly, this is the best of the Blackwell games, all of which are good and all of which I can recommend.
This story is much enriched by playing the earlier games, even though you don't have to. The Blackwell series also functions as a nifty companion piece to Unavowed, which clearly takes place in the same universe... as, I think, Old Skies does as well. If you liked those games and encountered them first, it's worth going back to this series to see where it all started.
Awesome ending to a great series. A must play.
Each episode is better than the last, and that holds true here.
Great pixel art, music, and voice acting with emotional impact! All tied together in a touching story.
A great ending to an amazing series!
all good things coming to an end
I absolutely adore Blackwell series. Feels like I love every character AND their voice actor. Story is great in all of the Blackwell games so give it a try! Though it's not widely popular I am GREATFUL that I stumbled upon this gem. Thank you, Wadjet Eye Games, for a story that I still remember in my heart even though I played it like 8 years ago.
Final Score: 8/10
Just completed the series and it was great - wonderful story, moving characters, humor and tragedy, and everything I want out of a detective noir game. I cannot recommend this series enough.
The Blackwell Epiphany, developed and published by Wadjet Eye Games, serves as the grand conclusion to one of the most beloved and understated point-and-click adventure series in modern indie gaming. Released in 2014, it closes the story of medium Rosa Blackwell and her spectral companion Joey Mallone with a mixture of tragedy, introspection, and redemption. Set once again in a wintry New York City, the game opens with a case that immediately sets the tone for its darker and more mature atmosphere. A man’s spirit is violently torn apart before Rosa’s eyes, shattering not only the ghost but the foundation of what she thought she understood about the afterlife. From that moment on, the game delves into the most personal and emotionally resonant mystery of the series—one that tests Rosa’s courage, Joey’s humanity, and the fragile line that separates life from what comes after it.
Narratively, The Blackwell Epiphany is a triumph of storytelling. The writing displays the same dry wit and emotional intelligence that has defined the series, but now carries a heavier sense of finality. Rosa has grown from the reluctant medium of the first game into a confident, if still haunted, investigator of the supernatural. Her relationship with Joey, the sardonic ghost who has guided and protected her, reaches its most complex stage. What was once a partnership of convenience has become a deep bond forged by shared loss and sacrifice. The game’s central mystery—a string of deaths linked to a sinister supernatural force—intertwines seamlessly with Rosa’s own past, forcing her to confront her fears and the consequences of her calling. Every dialogue exchange, every spectral encounter, feels purposeful, leading the player toward a devastating yet meaningful conclusion. This is storytelling that respects its audience’s emotional investment, offering a finale that is both heartbreaking and cathartic.
The gameplay adheres to the traditional point-and-click structure but with the polish and sophistication expected of a series finale. Players alternate between controlling Rosa and Joey, utilizing their distinct abilities to solve puzzles and uncover clues. Rosa can interact with the physical world, search databases on her phone, and interview witnesses, while Joey, as a ghost, can pass through walls, manipulate air currents, and eavesdrop on conversations. This dual-character mechanic remains one of the series’ most inventive and satisfying features. The puzzles themselves are well-balanced—never so obtuse as to frustrate, but still challenging enough to demand observation and logical thinking. Many of them rely on combining information rather than objects, reinforcing the investigative tone of the story. The sense of accomplishment that comes from piecing together the game’s mysteries mirrors the satisfaction of cracking a difficult case, making the gameplay feel deeply intertwined with the narrative.
Aesthetically, The Blackwell Epiphany is a striking achievement in pixel art design. While it retains the retro-inspired look of its predecessors, it pushes the style further than ever before. Snow drifts softly through the city streets, reflections shimmer on wet pavement, and the color palette captures both the melancholy of a fading winter and the warmth of fleeting human connection. The pixelated style is elevated by expressive character portraits that convey emotion through subtle facial changes and body language. This is complemented by a superb soundscape—haunting piano pieces, ambient urban noises, and a melancholic jazz-inspired score that perfectly captures the noir-like tone of the series. The full voice acting adds depth to every exchange, with the performers for Rosa and Joey in particular delivering career-best performances. Their banter, filled with affection and tension, feels natural and earned, making their relationship one of the most memorable in the genre.
Thematically, the game explores the price of empathy and the limits of redemption. Rosa’s mission has always been to help lost souls find peace, but in The Blackwell Epiphany, she begins to question the moral and emotional toll of her work. The mystery she unravels reveals the fragility of the boundary between life and death, and how easily that balance can be corrupted. The ghosts she encounters are not simply narrative devices but reflections of human vulnerability—people clinging to guilt, regret, or anger. In helping them move on, Rosa must confront her own lingering ghosts, both literal and figurative. This thematic richness elevates the story beyond a typical supernatural detective tale, transforming it into a meditation on loss, compassion, and the inevitability of letting go. The ending, devastating in its simplicity, ties together the series’ long-running questions about duty, freedom, and the price of spiritual connection in a way that feels both inevitable and profound.
While the game is an undeniable success, it is best experienced by those familiar with the previous entries in the series. The emotional weight of its conclusion relies heavily on the player’s attachment to Rosa and Joey, which has been built up over multiple games. For newcomers, the plot remains engaging, but much of its poignancy may be lost without the context of their shared history. Some puzzles can feel slightly linear compared to earlier installments, and a few plot revelations are delivered abruptly, as if constrained by the game’s relatively short playtime. However, these are minor flaws in an otherwise tightly woven experience that never loses focus on its central story.
In the end, The Blackwell Epiphany is not just a satisfying conclusion to a long-running series—it is a testament to the emotional power of interactive storytelling. Through modest visuals and thoughtful writing, it accomplishes what few games manage: it makes the player care deeply, not only about solving a mystery, but about the fates of the people within it. The game lingers long after its final moments, not because of its scares or puzzles, but because it reminds us of what it means to say goodbye. It stands as both a fitting farewell to Rosa and Joey and a celebration of the narrative artistry that Wadjet Eye Games has consistently delivered. The Blackwell Epiphany closes the curtain on a story of ghosts and grief with beauty, sorrow, and grace—a haunting epilogue to one of the finest adventure series in indie gaming.
Rating: 9/10
la historia es genial
As with the previous Blackwell games there are a number of "you can do this but not that, until suddenly you CAN do that in another scene" that are a little annoying, but overall I enjoyed the entire sequence of games.
Bra äventyrsspel!
clearly a darker episode. nonetheless a good conclusion to the series. Still a great soundtrack. must have played all other games before this one.
This is perfect closure to the series. Surprisingly just discovered the series for myself - and it's absolutely worth playing. All games have that old-school vibe, where the story mattered more than anything else. It's like reading a cool book, that you keep swapping pages even when it's time to go to sleep, because you want to get 'just that next thing'. Amazing. Love it.
I cried so hard after finishing all 5 games in one week, the story was so well-written and so touching. Great work, great story, to the developers you really made these characters alive. 10/10

Legacy>Unbound>Convergence>Deception>Epiphany
Blackwell

this is the most incredible series that uses so many pixals but boy oh boy what an impact, voice acting was the best its been the entire series. Everything was great from the music to the story it makes me happy how much I love the point and click story/adventure genre. play this series you wont regret it.
After binge-playing all 5 of the Blackwell games and 100%ing them, I can only say, this was a good and fun series, nothing mind-breaking but fun enough to keep me entertained, the puzzles were definetely the best out of all the games, and it was probably the only game that actually had the length of an actual adventure game too, regardless, the fact that Dave somehow managed to get 5 games out within a little bit less than 5 years is beyond me, it was such a good series with some fun gimmicks here and there. So Overall I didn't regret playing through 'em, and would recommend all Point and Click enthusiasts to play through the Blackwell series, since the hype is clear with the last two games if it weren't for the first three which while are fine, they are quite short and much more cryptic in story.
A good end to the series. This is pretty much a full-length adventure game, too.
Great art and music, quality voice acting too.
My only gripes are about the puzzle design. As in, it's a good audiovisual story, but it's mostly not fun to play. Too often you end up trying everything on everything, or having an idea what to do but can't figure out how to make Rosa/Joey get it.
Still, a great indie adventure!
I can say without stipulations this is a good game now. I know the plot doesn't hold up any scrutinity and is full of holes but the game got me enaged and made me feel good so much that I do not feel I need to nitpick anythign.
Kudos for managing to end the series on a high note.
The best game of the series and a fitting end to the story. If you like adventure games, the whole Blackwell series is worth your time.
Oof. Ooof, oh god... I just cried so hard the past 10 minutes straight. This series can really get to you.
I'm happy I played all 5 parts and I'm damn sad it's over.
All characters are so well written, the story is mysterious and suspenseful and touching and - you know what? I won't say anything more, just go and play it (and do so from the beginning, start with Blackwell Legacy!)
And I will sit here and cry some more and feel the afterglow and then play the second playthrough to get all achievements.
Each Blackwell game have been better than the last, clearly as wadjet eye becomes more experienced and skills. This game is the best in the series, still puzzles that make sense rather than unsolvable non puzzles and nonsense, the characters as likeable as ever. This is also the prettiest game in the series, brining a unique colour scheme that's just pleasant to look at.
great end to a great series. Definitely unexpected. I really enjoyed this series and I'm sad it's over, but I'm glad I played it.
Not the ending I wanted but indisputably the product of great talent. The puzzles are the best in the series.
really ended the series in a great way. challenging puzzles, deep stories, good voice acting and amazing soundtrack. best enjoyed with all games from the start, but each game was good on their own.
Why "Blackwell Epiphany" and the entire "Blackwell" series is a masterpiece
For five games, I've been on a journey alongside Rosa and Joey that I'll never forget. The "Blackwell" series is more than just a collection of point-and-click adventures; it's an emotional odyssey that deepened with each installment. And then came "Blackwell Epiphany". The title alone hinted at a grand finale, but nothing could have prepared me for what awaited in this final chapter. It's a bittersweet, heartbreaking, and yet beautiful conclusion that stayed with me long after the credits rolled.
What makes the "Blackwell" games so special are the characters. Over the years, Rosa and Joey have become true friends. I've watched them grow - Rosa, who was initially uncertain and hesitant, evolved into a brave and determined detective. Joey, the cynical but loyal ghost, became the emotional anchor of the series. Their dialogues, their banter, their mutual dependence are the heart of the games. In "Epiphany", their relationship reaches its peak as they face their greatest challenge. You feel how deep their bond is and the finale is very touching.
The game itself is a masterwork of storytelling. It ties up the loose ends from the previous installments and brings everything to a logical and deeply emotional climax. The cases Rosa and Joey have to solve are complex and captivating, but it's the overarching narrative about their own destiny that grips the player the most. The atmosphere is dense, and the puzzles are challenging but never unfair. It's a great balance between gameplay demands and emotional depth.
There is a good reason why these games are rated so well!
Thank you Wadjet Eye Games, for this masterpiece. I've really enjoyed playing the Blackwell series!
Great series and a good ending. I do think there's a few loose ends that I wish were tied up better, but overall, a satisfying conclusion to it all. One of the few rare instances where each game just improved upon the other and got better with each entry. Awesome story, engaging characters, neat twists... Definitely going to leave a gaming void in me...
An excellent conclusion to the series. It wraps things up nicely. Puzzle quality is comparable to Blackwell Deception but the game is noticeably longer. Nice characterization, and an excellent ending to the series.
the entire series has been great i have been playing them with friends watching and this one has been the best so far.
A fitting ending to the Blackwell saga with all loose ends nicely tied up. Altho the actual ending makes sense, I do wish they
didn't simply go the deus ex-machina way with Rosa gaining her superpowers. Or at least introduced some hints of that actually being possible earlier.
Definitely the highlight of the series. A phenomenal last chapter.
Here, everything comes together nicely. One thing I forgot to mention in my reviews concerning the previous Blackwell titles was the great voice work. It really stands out and especially here in the ending, it manages to garner emotion.
In short, play the whole series, even if two of them aren't the best, the story comes through better having played them and this, the finale, the last part, felt for sure the longest of them all and quite rewarded, even if the ending is heart-wrenching.
What I really liked here is how the game sometimes took control over for just a bit, to have some dialogue happen by itself. In previous titles I really missed the two main characters talking more to each other, and here it would have been terrible if it wasn't helped.
The first half is relatively tame, and I was able to get through it with little help. For the second half, there were some blockers I had to look up. While the clue hunting is much more enjoyable than some random puzzle, sometimes the plethora of tools available makes it a bit tedious or prone to get stuck.
I mostly didn't like the online search mechanic or the clue combining mechanic. I know it leaves something open for the player to do but compared to dialogue, you can ask almost anyone anything but for search or combination, only specific items will generate a result and while conversation and exploring the world are used constantly, search and clue combining are used just a few times throughout the game. To me, it should be on the same level.
The Art in this is the best in the series. The styles match each other and while the aspect ratio of the image was widened, the pixel resolution was seemingly reduced, or at least, the whole screen was homogenized, which I guess helped with the cohesion. Even the portraits fit with the style now and the backgrounds are beautiful. It's such a big step-up, while it's not jarring from the previous games, it really draws you in much more. The choice to have it set in a stormy winter also really helps with the mood.
Overall not much critique but for the two mechanics which, I would argue, made the game more tedious.
The ending is fitting to the whole theme of the series, and it also handled Joey quite well. It would have been fun to have a power fantasy in the end or see Joey have some character progression throughout the series, there was some, but ultimately, it was done well.
Surely would be fun to see a spinoff.
MY HEART HURTS OH MY GOD THIS WHOLE SERIES WAS AMAZING. JOEY IS MY FAVORITE FICTIONAL STRAIGHT MAN
Jogo maravilhoso!!
A great final chapter of the saga. Good enigmas although I didn't liked the ending that much
❤️
I absolutely adore the Blackwell series, and Blackwell Epiphany is the epic bittersweet finale!
It's amazing how each game expands the lore, deepens the mystery, and evolves the characters. Yet each game can also stand on it's own, with it's own satisfying story arcs. The central theme of learning about a ghost to be able to set them free is genius. It makes us naturally care about them, as we learn about their fates. And in Blackwell Epiphany, the stakes to save their souls are even higher!
The pixel art graphics are excellent. The music is outstanding, and sets the chilled out noir ambience just right. Loading into the main menu, and the music starts playing, gets me into a relaxed mood.
I've grown with the Blackwell games over the years, so there's a part of me that didn't want the series to end, it felt so familiar coming into a new Blackwell game. I'm thoroughly impressed the series manages to keep upping the ante narratively, while keeping the point and click game play fresh. Looking forward to experiencing the other Wadjet Eye adventure games! :)
Fantastic conclusion
THAT'S how it ENDS?
The Blackwell series is pretty good. The puzzles are nice, only got stuck (stupidely) like 4 or 5 times over the entire series. The characters are well written. The overall story is good, I was quite captivated by the end. Note that the games are supposed to be played in order, each game being like a chapter of the same story.
All in all, a pretty decent point'n'click series, not the best, but if you're into the genre you should definitely give it a go.
The final game wraps the story in a satisfying manner, tying elements from all games together. It is definitely the longest, and the most elaborate.
This is one of my favorite adventure games of the 21st century! Unfortunately, you have to play through some older games with varying quality to get the full impact, but boy is it worth it. The characters are amazing, the stories are emotional and sometimes haunting, the pixel art and backgrounds is incredible, the voice acting is stellar. The entire Blackwell series is a wonderful experience to play through, and this game is a pinnacle of quality and a touchstone of why I still love adventure games.
It took me some time to come back to the Blackwell Series, I played through the first 4 in rapid succession but delayed the fifth knowing it was the last. The game is everything you'd hope for in the final act of a great Point & Click Adventure Series. The twist ending felt convoluted and I could've lived without that deus ex machina but here we are... It's over. I'm a little melancholy. I would love a sixth installment focused on that twist ending but I doubt we'll get it.
great finale to the blackwell series!
Blackwell Epiphany is a great ending to a long running series of point and click mysteries. I started with this one, probably because of the detailed pixel art and the pervading sense of doom, so I can say it flows well even for newcomers to the Blackwell saga.
Someone has been murdering ghosts in New York, so it is up to a young medium and her noir-themed spirit guide to save the city. The plot is juicy with well-paced twists and turns. The puzzles are generally straightforward and the voice acting is well done. There's also the option to have the dev team narrate the making of the game, for people who are into that.
I cried. Such a perfect end to a story.
That ending was a blow to my heart and soul
It is very unique . I did not get board.
First off: Don't play this without playing the other 4 Blackwell games
Second off: Fantastic ending to a series
Third off: HOW FREAKIN DARE YOU GILBERT YOU CANT DO THIS TO ME!
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ why does it have to be over?!?!?!?!
I WANT MORE OF ROSA AND JOEY...but sadly all good things must come to an end 'n' all that jazz. This game series is one I will keep close to my heart and still think about, even over a year later. This series was my introduction to point-and-click adventure games, and I love it for giving me a damn fine introduction to the genre.
yes
Having followed Rosa and Joey since the very beginning, this last episode delivers a stunning and emotionally resonant finale that ties the series together beautifully. Every choice, every spirit saved, and every moment of doubt comes full circle here, with a narrative that is darker, more ambitious, and more personal than ever before.
Technically, the game refines the formula Wadjet Eye has been honing across the series: tight pacing, smart puzzles that integrate smoothly with the story, and voice acting that’s never been better. The pixel art and atmospheric score create a perfect backdrop for the game’s increasingly haunting tone.
But for me, what really sets Epiphany apart is how it deepens the emotional stakes. Rosa’s evolution from hesitant medium to determined protector of the dead feels fully realized, and Joey’s backstory gets the depth and resolution it deserves. The final act is gut-wrenching in the best way. As far as I know, it’s quite rare that a point ‘n’ click adventure hits this hard.
If you’ve come this far, you owe it to yourself to see how it ends. This is not just a satisfying conclusion, but an incredibly powerful farewell in the darkest, most bittersweet and most mature installment of the series.
Perfection is a fickle mistress. The Blackwell series is far from it, but the genuine humanity underlying these games, the warmth it provided despite tragedy, this stuff will stay with me for a long time.
Rosangela, Joey and Auntie Lauren are some of the best characters of all time and I will forever be grateful for this ride.

SPOILERS!
Absolutely loved this series. What an ending! Not sure which was more of a WTF moment: Madeline's betrayal, Heather/Tanya, or Rosangela's demise.
I did not expect a pixelated point and click game to hit this hard. Bravo!
I absolutely loved the series, and this game was 85% good had a fantastic atmosphere ad improvement in game design. However the story was a little messy and the ending SUCKED to the point of me jst pretending it never happened... anyway I played all of the games and I recc it if u r have of point and click adventures, I lovee lovee rosa and joey dynamics and the humor.. chef's kiss
Absolutely stuck the landing on a great series!
Some plot elements in the second half feel rushed, and this game could've helped with 1 or 2 more hours of content to properly flush them out, but at the end of the day, I still think it was a great conclusion to the blackwell series and its characters.
Also, while the character potraits are not to the same quality as the first game again, there is a great improvement in the background art, and I like how pretty it looks.
But yeah, this is a fantastic series, and I loved every second of it.
Loved this game so much. I didn't want the series to end!
Aaaaand that's a wrap! The ending to the great Blackwell games was possibly my favourite of them all in some areas: the character writing was top notch with some of the best stories across the series, and the puzzles were very satisfying, especially as I promised myself not to look up a guide (I caved only once and I feel it was sort of justified). The overarching plot I have more mixed feelings on, with some of it feeling a little rushed, cliched and inconclusive, but as a whole package it sells its emotional moments very well and has secured the Blackwell games series as one of the greats.
During a sale I bought all 5 Blackwell games and played them in order of release. If I remember all 5 cost something like $10, so no big deal. After playing the first, I was pretty sure I wasted $10. But each got incrementally better. Finally, EPIPHANY! A very nice game I can easily recommended. Great plot...but to fully understand parts of it, you have to play the first 4 games, l making them worth the price. Rosa and Joey really grew on me so nice character development. Actually, all the characters in Epiphany grew on me. Having lived a good part on my life in Manhattan, I also appreciated that the development team also knew Manhattan really well. Voice overs are very good and it's pixel art so either love it or leave it. All in all, a big THUMBS UP from me.
An ending that makes sense, yet I could have never predicted. Amazing. I am so proud of the people who worked on this series for the strides they have made over the years.
The Blackwell Legacy (2006)
Blackwell Unbound (2007)
Blackwell Convergence (2009)
Blackwell Deception (2011)
Blackwell Epiphany (2014)
A Fond Farewell: Blackwell Epiphany isn't just the final chapter in the Blackwell saga; it's a poignant and powerful conclusion that resonates long after the credits roll. Like finishing the last book in a beloved series, it offers a bittersweet experience, filled with both satisfaction and a pang of loss.
Without venturing into spoiler territory, I can say that Epiphany masterfully cements the bond between Rosa and Joey. Their journey, which has spanned five games, reaches its culmination here in a way that feels both earned and deeply moving. The game delves into their relationship with a depth and nuance that surpasses previous instalments, providing a truly satisfying resolution to their intertwined fates.
Significantly longer than the other Blackwell episodes, Epiphany allows ample time to explore its themes and develop its characters. This expanded length gives the narrative room to breathe, creating a richer and more immersive experience. Wadjet Eye Games has clearly poured their heart and soul into this project, and it shows. Epiphany feels like their magnum opus, a fitting and unforgettable end to a remarkable series. If you've followed Rosa and Joey's journey this far, you owe it to yourself to see it through to its conclusion. Be prepared for a powerful emotional experience that will stay with you long after you've said goodbye.
I’m worried, now, I convinced myself not to like this series. It’s more than the general jank, it’s the general spottiness pervading everything. The dialogue is bereft of feeling, at times inhuman. Every Blackwell game (and every Wadjet Eye game I’ve touched) stumbles headlong into these abysmally paced inflection points that fall flat on their faces.
And still… it’s pretty clear Dave Gilbert put all his heart into Epiphany. In a series where every climax feels tacked on, we inexplicably get one of the bravest, most sincere endings I’ve seen in any franchise.
There was time, over the course of this series, to make Rosa a much stronger character than she gets to be. I can’t pretend I didn’t grow attached to her anyway.
It's a lovely game.
Overall I enjoyed Ephiphany, though I wasn't sure about the climax to the series. Still, if you made it this far, this one is still worth playing. I do not regret playing the entire Blackwell series, and I'm sad it's over.
As a side note, if you wear headphones it becomes extremely obvious that some of the voice lines are from previous games and there's a notable difference in recording quality and volume. Not as bad as some of the earlier games though.
I'm just going to write the same review for all the Blackwell games....Please PLEASE play this whole series you will not regret it. I legitimately cannot pick a favorite I love these games and ghosts.
Gilbert voicing Benjiro... never seen such bravery since that Tropic Thunder film. It glosses over the scene where Joey is disappointed when no one is in the girl's changing room.

Dans mon top 10 des point n click!
Just binged the whole series.
Do recommend. Very nice, very cool ghost boi mechanic. Most of the puzzles are very easy to figure out, but that's how I like my point & click games.
