This is by far the worst of the 3. You can tell the Director of the first to was not really involved with this title. Humor and overall game play are pretty boring causing many of this to be long winded. While not as fun it is worth a shot if you liked the first 2 so get it on sale if anything.

The Baconing is a solid but slightly disappointing conclusion to the DeathSpank trilogy — the humor and voice acting are still genuinely funny, and the colorful art style holds up, but without Ron Gilbert at the helm the wit feels a step below the first two games. The hack-and-slash combat gets frustrating fast, especially with offscreen ranged enemies pelting you with homing projectiles on top of a cooldown-heavy shield system that punishes any lapse in timing. That said, I clocked around 8-9 hours doing everything, which felt fair for the price, and the variety of environments kept things from going completely stale. If you've played and enjoyed the first two games, it's worth finishing the trilogy — just go in with tempered expectations and back up your saves often.

TL;DR: If you want more DeathSpank and can put up with much higher difficulty and a less interesting world, this game is for you. This is more of a mid-recommendation than a full one, details follow.

The Baconing is the third game in the DeathSpank series and the only one not involving the original creative director Ron Gilbert (who also famously created Monkey Island). The previous 2 entries were light-hearted comedy action RPGs with a unique setting combining anachronistic elements, acerbic humour and a solid (if repetitive) gameplay formula. The fun loop from the previous games consisted of a crazily over-the-top bumbling fool of a main character (DeathSpank) who quests to help people (sometimes unwittingly doing the contrary) while chasing ridiculous Macguffins. Gear would drop from enemies as you explore the world where new themed locations would regularly come up to advance the plot. The latter was simple but fun and the first game especially nailed the addictive just one more quest gameplay. The second game was harder and had a bloated number of sidequests but still fun while completing the original plot with multiple endings. This third game however suffers significantly from the departure of the originals' creative director.

The Baconing replaces the occasionally dark yet goofy world of the previous games with consistently drab environments and misses the mark immensely when it comes to the writing. DeathSpank is actively evil several times instead of mostly bungling his way around and the characters are almost all bad in some way. The themed locations lack the cheerfulness of the previous games and the plot isn't even properly resolved by the end of the game which promises DLC and sequels that never came. Thankfully, the proper ending in the second entry helps reduce the sting. It's easy to write off the simple plot of the previous games but this entry proves that there's a deceptive depth to that apparent simplicity as they balanced fun with social commentary instead of going post-apocalyptic and openly grim with forced comedy like this one. The voice acting is surprisingly lacking for some prominent characters although the main character and several side characters are great. The music is fine although mostly recycled, as is much of the gear and models. The gameplay is also lacking in innovation but more of the same wouldn't be an issue with the fun core loop of this series, except this entry has a big issue: difficulty.

The game's difficulty is significantly ramped up and at seems like it was more balanced for co-op (I played solo). It's easy to die in most battles and the difficulty spikes are even more annoying than in the second game. The game seems to want to encourage more tactical gameplay but doesn't adjust the other mechanics to help with that. Switching equipment and potions should have been easier to negotiate the harder, more varied mobs but the controls are as limited as the previous entries (where the game was properly tuned for that) and it makes the ability to mix and match annoying as you need to switch loadout mid-battle from a menu. When you get used to it, the steady feeling of progress from the better previous entries returns somewhat but that is also sometimes stymied by irritatingly long segments without checkpoints. The game's balance doesn't seem like it was given enough time to cook and it should have spent longer in development.

I know this may seem like a non-recommendation but despite these many flaws, the fact is this game still provides more DeathSpank gameplay. The relatively short length (about 12 hours) and getting to play some more as DeathSpank still has a fun factor for fans. Fans of the series hankering for more can somewhat enjoy this. Anyone else though, play the first 2 games and ignore this one. I'm tenuously recommending this as I like the series but this game did test my patience several times.

The main selling point is the humor, but that's very subjective and ymmv. The actual gameplay is kinda terrible, so I can't really recommend it as a game in of itself.

The gameplay is just a very lightweight action-adventure of the style of Diablo or Titan Quest, but without the depth or character building that make those so good. Instead, it's replaced with a melee build with a mostly non-working shield who only attacks enemies you explicitly click on (while the rest of the horde murders you). In other words, there's no auto-attacking at all, so you just sit there spam clicking and trying to shield until you probably die anyway, and then have to walk back to where you died. Death feels cheap, but rather than this feeling kind of like a superpower, it instead just feels like a nuisance.

Really, the comedy is the whole selling point of the game. Some obviously love it, as the positive reviews show. For me, well... The first time I played it, I recall really enjoying it. It's a very irreverent sort of humor with a egotistical a**hole hero as the main character. My most recent attempt at playing it, though... The humor just felt rather stale. I think the problem might be that this sort of parody hero has been done to death at this point, deconstructed and reconstructed, and so it's lost a lot of the originality that existed when it first came out.

Not as relevant to me personally, but the graphics are also pretty rough. This is pretty unsurprising given the age of the game, and a lot of the backgrounds still hold up pretty well, but this then clashes with the mobs that look like something out of early World of Warcraft, still more polygon than mesh.

So should you get this? Eh. It's pretty cheap, but the game play is lousy. Really, it all depends on whether the humor clicks for you or not - as well as whether you're willing to throw yourself against waves of enemies over and over to finish an area and move to the next. Personally, I would skip this and go for another game unless you already know you're a fan of the humor - such as playing previous Deathspank games or watching a let's play or something.

it certainly feels like a product of its time. i don't think what's here is truly terrible, but honestly there are way better games you could be out there playing if you want some sort of looting game with a story. humor is... fine, presentation is ok, but there's just nothing outstanding here unless you want a deathspank game, or to see what kinda games they were putting in game bundles 10-15 years ago.

The weakest in the trilogy, mostly due to Ron Gilbert's departure, The Baconing's jokes are still decent, and the story still has its moments, but the humor isn’t quite as sharp as in the first two games. The environments are more varied, and now have a sci-fi twist. The story continues from the ending where DeathSpank defeats Sandy; after combining all 6 Thongs of Virtue, a new foe appears, The AntiSpank so now DS has to save all of SpankTopia by destroying 5 of the thongs in the Fires of Bacon. The quests are still ridiculous, and the characters are still over-the-top and funny, but the game still suffers from the bloating of the second title (also, the game sort of ends on a cliffhanger). There are also some new combat mechanics, like shield bash, perfect reflect and charged attacks, which freshen up the fights, but now enemies can feel unfair and overpowered, as you need to constantly use the new mechanics to get anywhere. Bosses also have unique mechanics, making fighting them a bit more tactical.

All things considered, it's still a fun RPG, but it didn't do enough to make it feel all that different from the first 2 games, and the series kinda ran out of steam.

Забытая, никому уже ♥♥♥♥♥ не нужная игра, оказалась глотком свежего воздуха среди современных игр. Серия DeathSpank была (ну и есть) отличной лайт-ARPG, с глупым (иногда в хорошем плане) юмором, понятной прогрессией и приятным геймплеем. Жаль, что подобные игры делают раз в пятилетку, а сама серия DeathSpank сдохла после the baconing.

O último jogo da trilogia, é um pouco mais curto que o anterior e adiciona algumas novidades para a jogabilidade.
A história é a continuação do jogo antecessor, durante a campanha você vai encontrar alguns NPC's já conhecidos, além da continuação de algumas tramas secundárias.
O gráfico e os cenários continuam no mesmo estilo, porém modificaram o design do mapa. Agora o desenho do mapa é holográfico verde, achei bem feio e preguiçoso, sem contar que há algumas lacunas sem preencher, nos jogos antecessores era um mapa todo colorido e preenchido.
Em questão da jogabilidade, adicionaram novas mecânicas, como poder segurar o botão para atirar várias flechas seguidas e de refletir projéteis com o escudo.
Um ponto que vale ressaltar é que esse é o jogo mais difícil da trilogia, você terá que administrar bem o uso de items e poções durante o combate, sem isso é impossível de se passar.
O modo co-op continua o mesmo, com o Player 2 controlando algum boneco secundário sem poder equipar armas ou usar items. A única novidade é que adicionaram novos bonecos.
O spam em missões secundárias foi arrumado, nesse jogo eu achei mais moderado e maioria das missões da para se completar na mesma área, e caso fique perdido basta usar o biscoito para receber dicas.
Infelizmente o jogo sofre de má otimização, não se pode dar Alt+Tab se não o jogo trava logo em seguida, além de que fica dando umas travadas durante a jogatina.

Comparado aos antecessores, esse jogo reuniu tudo o que era de bom nos anteriores e resolveu o problema de spam das missões, se tornando um dos melhores. Só há o problema de estar em inglês, e é crucial entender para conseguir jogar.
Mesmo sendo um bom jogo, nunca haverá continuação, já que a empresa atualmente só foca em jogos mobiles.

The Baconing is unfortunately not as polished as the first two games. With a worse targeting system and a pretty nauseting wobbly camera, it takes a bit of getting used to. The gameplay and story is still quite fun, and the levels are actually the best in the series. If you try this you should also know that crashes and corrupt saves still persist in this one too. Backup your saves often and put the game in windows 7 compatibility alongside with Vsync.

I played this on the XBox 360 back in the before times. It's a pretty entertaining action rpg that does not take itself seriously. Seems to run like complete garbage on my pc for whatever reason.

Combat is decent, graphics kind've hold up, and the humor is... Well, I don't feel like it has aged all that well. Still, if it's on sale maybe consider it. Not sure it's still worth full price.

The Baconing is the 3rd installment of deathspank which.... is probably the weakest of the 3. Argubly harder than the others on normal difficulty. Does have a tendency to crash if you tab out briefly. Humour is on par but not as overly-done compared to the others. Worth a playthrough if you have tried the others, but don't expect much from it. 6/10

Chaotisch, aber nach kurzer Eingewöhnung sehr zu genießen.

The Baconing erinnert an eine Mischung aus Diablo und Borderlands. Der Humor und die Story sind völlig hanebüchen. Nichts und niemand nehmen sich hier ernst. Der Hauptcharakter ist ne Mischung aus Rambo und einem männlichen Stereotyp nach dem anderen. Sämtliche NPCs, Gegner und sogar die Waffen/Items sind purer Quatsch. Alles schreibt nach "We dont give a f*ck".

Die Steuerung ist in Ordnung, krankt aber sehr daran, dass die Taste zum nur Angreifen / nicht bewegen irgendwie nie funktioniert, egal auf was man sie legt.

Die Kamera ist mit das Schlimmste. Zwar kann man klassisch rein- und rauszoomen, aber nie weit genug. Das führt dazu, dass man häufig, vor allem wenn man nach Süden laufen muss, die Gegner nicht sieht, bevor sie Aggro haben.

Das Kampfsystem ist auch... interessant. Vor allem der manische Zwang, dass man nach jedem Kampf sein Leben erneuern muss. Die Tränke dafür sind aber auf 5 limitiert, obwohl sie oft droppen. Essen stapelt sich unendlich, hat aber nur über Zeit Heilung, die bei JEDER Taste vorzeitig abgebrochen wird. Außerdem gibt es ständig neues Essen, je nach Level.

Das Skillsystem, wenn man es so nennen will, ist sehr rudimentär und man versteht nicht, was davon gut/schlecht ist. Man kann z.B. "Sidekicks" besser machen, hat aber nie irgendwelche davon (das ist wohl nur per DLC möglich).

Das Waffensystem und die Rüstungen werden permanent erneuert. Alle 5-15 Minuten findet man etwas Besseres, das das Alte sofort ersetzt. Auf Wunsch übernimmt die Maschine das sogar automatisch, damit man nicht mal mehr wechseln muss. Das Alte kann sofort kleingehäckselt werden.

Geld ist in dem Spiel völliger Quatsch. Erst ganz am Ende könnte es passieren, dass man mal Tränke oder Superorbs aufstocken will. Ansonsten läuft man irgendwann mit 100k, 300k in der Tasche rum und weiß nicht wieso. Ich habe nie ein Item beim "Waffenhändler" gefunden, das besser war als meine angelegten. Und auch der "Essenshändler" ist völliger Quatsch.

Fernkampf/Nahkampf sind auch nicht sehr ausgewogen. Wenn man kann, kann man alle Gegner entspannt wegsnipen oder mit Granaten hochjagen.

Ein paar der anderen Items sind ebenfalls sehr mächtig / spaßig.

QoL-technisch hätten mehr als 4 Item-Slots dem Spiel gut getan. Einer ist immer für Heiltränke besetzt, der 2. meistens für Essen. Bleiben 2. Es gibt so viele Tränke und Wurfpfeile und Granaten, dass man häufig gar nichts mehr tragen kann, so selten kommt man dazu diese zu nutzen. Gleichzeitig habe ich mich sicher 20x mit Granaten und aufgeladener Fernkampfwaffe selbst gekillt, wenn die Gegner zu nah herankommen.

Tode sind in "The Baconing" relativ entspannt. Man verliert zwar Geld, kann das aber bei der Leiche wieder einsammeln. Eher nervig, dass man sich erst mal vollheilen muss.

Die Möglichkeit, über die "Klo-Teleporter" über die ganze Karte zu reisen, ist sehr gut. Weniger gut: Manche Klos in Dungeons sind "out of order" und irgendwie nur für Tode innerorts da...

Das Spiel an sich hat mir gut gefallen. 5 "Questitems", die wir an 5 Abschnitte der Karte bringen müssen. Alle sind thematisch unterteilt, bieten kleinere Nebenquests und diverse Rätsel. Bis auf das "Brückenrätsel" direkt am Anfang waren die meisten eher leicht. Die "Hinweise" in den Glückskeksen können manchmal sehr helfen, manchmal beantworten aber auch 3/3 eher wenig, was du wissen willst (WO!).

Fazit: The Baconing ist mit 10 Stunden rundum gelungen. Die Abschnitte, das fixe Autosave und manual Save System bieten viele Möglichkeiten für Pausen zwischendurch. Der Humor ist eigen. Gelacht und geschmunzelt habe ich selten, zumal das Spiel auch nur auf Englisch ging, aber es hat mich auch nicht weiter gestört. Das Kampfsystem ist ein wenig "Arbeit", viele Mikro-Unterbrechungen, viele (dumme, selbstverschuldete) Tode etc. Trotzdem macht es einfach wahnsinnig Laune. Du hast ein klares Ziel von Beginn an, bekommst am Ende einen Endbosskampf und das wars dann auch. Wer Lust hat, kann sich im "Hardcore" oder "Insane"-Mode vergnügen, aber inhaltlich dürfte man nach einem Durchlauf alles gesehen haben.

Feliz em jogar mais um jogo DeathSpank! Terceiro titulo segue com o humor característico e combate divertido. Pra quem não conhece nada da história, recomendo começar pelo primeiro. Pra quem curte um RPG hack-and-slash (tipo Diablo), essa série segue mesma linha. Pra mim 10/10 diversão na certa!

Последняя часть серии Diablo-сатирических игр о недалёком горе-герое, похороненная разладом с EA и voodoo-программистами.

+ В этот раз игроку предстоит заделаться Кратосом и вынести богов-пенсионеров
+ Можно собрать доспех-костюм самого Короля и встретиться с ним
+ Небольшой налёт некромантии, радиоактивности тел и небритой кораллости
+ Какие-никакие остатки глупого юмора
+ Нужно катать на корабле с большей смысловой нагрузкой

- Игровой процесс стал линейнее, время прохождения - меньше
- Падения на рабочий стол, как и во второй части
- Возможность загубить сохранение перед финальным боссом и начать всё играние заново
- Концовка открыто намекает на бесконечность происходящего
- Фантомные доски почёта
- Игра недоступна во многих регионах, а о скидке на неё слагают легенды

Совет дня: покупать игравшим ранее коллекционерам, не играть купившим "незнайкам"!

Humour is very of the time it was made, apparently the third game in a series.

Not really into the gameplay myself (too hard for me on easy XD) but if you want a dorky batman-esque kinda vibe to a Gauntlet/Sacred sort of game have at it.

戴斯班克的旅程走到了尽头，开发商HotHead虽然还在继续制作游戏，但连官网里都找不到任何有关戴斯班克的信息，所以尽管本作结尾暗示戴斯班克可以任意穿越至过去或是未来，但故事应该也不会延续下去了。

有点感慨，小时候全系列盗版玩了不下3遍，最终steam正版也全部全成就通关了。还是那句话，尽管游戏机制简单，但玩起来NPC和戴斯班克诙谐的对话总能给我带来最简单的快乐，这部培根也不例外。但确实我的评价是偏主观一点，前两部的主编剧没有参与这一部的开发，剧情质量下滑是肯定有的，而且总体流程线性且局促，感觉没有做完，总体上没前作优秀，但这部能出来有的玩我已经很开心了。

PS：这部锁国区，我是大概两年前找一个老外交换的key，现在不知道还有没有了，如果有特别想要补票的朋友可以考虑找高价区的代购，打折肯定是不会再打折了，但情怀无价。

+ Zabawne, kolorowe, odrobina kombinowania, mnóstwo tłuczenia.
- Co chwilę wpadasz na grupę przeciwników na których działa tylko jeden konkretny rodzaj ataku (co jest i męczące i głupie) którzy cię natychmiast rozrywają na strzępy (bo masz niewłaściwą broń :), sklepy nie są zaznaczone na mapie, po każdym respawnie miniboss ma zregenerowaną energię, a ty pustki w inwentarzu (a zanim się zorientujesz jaką ma podatność, zdąży cię zabić kilka razy)

Jeśli kogoś taki rodzaj rozgrywki bawi, go Gadget!
Dla mnie ta gra jest tylko wkurzająca.

This is a hard one to recommend for me. I would preface this by saying that only fans of the previous games should apply for this adventure. There are critics that say the writing isn't as good or that it is juvenile. I'm not sure I believe it's as bad as they say, though there is entire quest dealing with juvenile phrasing. The voice acting for the most part is just as good as the previous two games and the humor worked for me more than it didn't.

As for the issues... there are plenty. First, alt-tabbing tends to cause the game to completely crash, which is something the first game did only once for me and the second a couple of times. This one, it was widespread. The difficulty feels way higher as well. The mechanic of shield bashing and reflecting projectiles is good in concept, but it seems that the designers looked at that benefit they gave you and then proceeded to make the enemies more numerous and of higher levels than they were previously. To that end, the enemy levels feel arbitrary at times. In the first Deathspank, once I was at a certain level, I could bowl over lesser enemies (even sending their bodies flying with a simple hit). In this game, if there is a group of 4 projectile enemies that are 2 levels weaker than you, you have a great chance of getting killed if you're not very careful in how you approach the battle. In the first Deathspank, I didn't die very often and when I did, it felt like it was something I might have been able to prevent. In Thongs of Virtue, I died more often, but it still had an air of something I might have been able to prevent if I was better skilled. In The Baconing, I would die several times in each section and felt there were plenty of cheap, unavoidable situations where the only way I could progress was to throw myself at a group of enemies and hope I'd take one or two of them out before dying so I would have less of them to go through when I came back to that area. It made a lot of the combat very irritating. Some of the fetch quests are a bit redundant and in one, the guy giving it to you even tells you that there is a boring way of doing it, so why don't you steal the items you need. After that, he then proceeds to tell you how you STILL have to do a boring fetch quest to make this supposedly quicker method work.

For some reason, they decided to remove the ability to simply drop items on the ground as well as removing the stash that you had in the previous 2 (and oddly, making the amounts you'd get for grinding inventory items down to a mere fraction of what you got before). One could say it makes things more immediate, forcing you to use what you have, but I liked saving things I wasn't using in case I ran into trouble later on. Example: you'll often find grenades. In the previous games, I wouldn't use them very often, but I would hoard them in my stash just in case. I would eventually find some tough enemy that I could use some help with and then go back to the stash for that help. In this game, you have to use what you have and that is it. The co-op character (I only used Sparkles this time out) is hit or miss as well. Plenty of times, we'd hammer the button to heal and he wouldn't do anything at all, which resulted in plenty of lost lives on its own. It seems like enemies would target the co-op player a bit less often than before, which was nice, but since they can take damage and you share a common health bar, you can still get to a point where you can run into trouble fast and then the next errant hit kills you, even if you weren't taking much damage prior. The reflecting mechanic is nice in theory and it does work, but it would have been much nicer if it didn't need to be held in quite as long before activating. It makes blocking a shot easy enough but reflecting some of the faster projectiles requires you to take that first blocked hit while you wait for the charge to complete (and some rare enemies practically require reflected shots to be killed, so hopefully you can master that ability early on).

Each area is self contained and you will rarely need to go back to a previous section once you have moved on (unless you want to do some of the achievements such as completing the arena that you find early on). They have their own fun identity and enemies and the NPC's are often fun to listen to (and it's fun to see characters from previous games show up in some capacity). The overall storybook presentation is just as much fun as it was before and each area looks very nice.

This was a game that I definitely had some fun with, but it was the first of the series in which I was actually looking forward to finishing it so it could be uninstalled and not touched again. While that sounds like a damning indictment, it's more because I liked the other ones so much. The Baconing has its fun moments but they are nearly overshadowed by the many issues I have detailed above (it also doesn't help that it ends on a potential cliffhanger that seems like it will never be resolved since this game came out so long ago). If you liked the first two games, give this a try or look at videos first to see if it will work for you but definitely do not start on this one as it is the hardest by far. Start with the first one and get a feel for the way it plays and judge from there.

This is a 2D ISO/topdown arcade action brawler with a puerile comedy theme with the developers somewhat fixated on underwear and posteriors.

The hand drawn art is pretty well done but the art assets are very low resolution and look blurry/chunky when scaled up. There's 4K support at least, but the control customisability doesn't work. Also the game is really unstable, I had a couple of crash to desktops without any warning, and that's not fun. The game is now unmaintained so this is unlikely to ever get fixed. Due do the instability, I can't recommend this.

What it is: 3rd person adventure game with mild RPG elements.

I'm going to start this review with this: As a "game" this isn't great. That is in the sense of game play. The combat is bad. The targeting is cumbersome, there's no "weight" to any of your attacks, every creature does an absolutely disgusting amount of damage, and your shield is basically cardboard if you don't get a perfectly timed block. There were countless times I died because the enemies aggro'd me behind a barrier/wall and swarmed me, I'd kill an archer only for a phantom bolt to hit me afterwards, and I'd want to attack one thing and the targeting system would switch it to something else right before I fire. I hate the game part of The Baconing

Now, with that being said, I liked the rest. The story is stupid, but the humor is solid. The game is fairly meta and takes jabs at tropes within the genre. There's a lot for pop culture junkies to get a chuckle at and occasionally I laughed out loud from a few things. The end of the story is the weakest part. There's no payoff and the later characters are all pretty derogatory. However, it's a fun adventure and doesn't take long to beat.

So far this is a good game. It is pretty funny. It's also hard even on easy it is hard. You will die a lot. On the bright side you get check points. You won't have to re kill anyone and they don't seem to heal up when you die so that is nice.

A great solo game. Definitely does not baby you on the harder difficulties its a serious challenge that can take hours to complete great boss fights. I am lucky to have a friend with a lot of experience in this game who was able to help me or else I never would have beaten it. Definitely a good game if you love a challenge.

It's very unfortunate. I really WANTED to like this game.
It's got an amazing art style and a corny super hero spoof-like humour.
I just can't get past the first map, because:

1. The stupidly high difficulty. Even on normal mode, you are swarmed by enemies from the very start, that can kill you with 4-5 hits and 95% of the attacks are unavoidable. You can use your shield, but then you have to cooldown, where you still get hit, no matter what. I progressed slowly bit by bit, but if I'm supposed to die and run back over and over again every time I manage to kill one of the 10 enemies, then that's not my idea of having fun. Btw, the enemies replenish their health if you die, you DON'T, you get only half of it back. And once you've used up all your healing items, they're gone for good. Considering the difficulty, that's simply not a fair gameplay choice.

2. Crashes and instability. The game crashed once on the main menu right on the first run for no reason, then froze again while playing, forcing me to kill it. Since the game is almost a decade old by now, I doubt that there will be any fixes for those issues.

It's a HUGE waste of potential and illustrative work that I'll only be able to appreciate on Youtube videos because of the difficulty and crashing issues I'm not willing to be bothered with. I've got to cut my loss and move on.

This game originally released back in 2011, and my experience and opinion of it aren't good. Let's go through some of my notes:

That menu is a real eyesore and does not make for a great first impression. It's tacky, ugly to look at, and the music is some dreadful country menu jam.

The menu did turn out to be a good indication as to the style and humor of the rest of the game, not my personal taste but also not the worst part of the game. The redeemable aspects of the game kept me trying...for a bit.

The combat, equipment, character build progression, and leveling up all were enjoyable and were the sole parts keeping me entertained for the brief period that I played this game.

My biggest problems were crashing, broken intro cutscene (I think that's what kept trying to pop-up), and clumsy game design choices. Gameplay and direction don't feel intuitive enough for the slap stick style of dialogue that take place. While the fortune cookie hints are often quite helpful there were a few times very early on that left me scratching my head as to what I was supposed to do next.

All in all, I had enough problems and complaints within just the first hour of playing (lots of time was spent troubleshooting - did eventually get things working) to warrant me to not bother longer.

Definitely one I am not recommending, and one I would have returned if I hadn't waited so long before playing.

Had no idea this was part of a trilogy - just saw that in some of the reviews below. I got it as part of a Humble Bundle. Recently started playing as part of a "steam cleaning" and I'm loving it so much. It's basically Monty Python meets Diablo, but even more fun than Diablo/Torchlight.

The Baconing is (almost certainly) the final game in the DeathSpank series. Following on from Thongs of Virtue, The Baconing [spoiler]has you travelling the game world on a mission to defeat the AntiSpank and destroy the five thongs so painstakingly gathered in the previous game.[/spoiler]

The gameplay itself is basically identical to the previous two games, but the focus on combat is more pronounced – while you can go through the game quite simply on normal difficulty, playing on Insane will likely be a frustrating experience; you will need to rely heavily on the block and reflect mechanics, and you will find yourself growing increasingly frustrated when heavily outnumbered. The majority of the obstacles are not insurmountable, but it does detract somewhat from the enjoyment. Local co-op does make an appearance once again however, which may help to lessen the difficulty curve.

As in the prior game however, I did encounter some game breaking bugs, where the game would simply crash upon encountering a random enemy or something of the sort. I managed to get around it by simply avoiding those enemies entirely, but as the game is no longer maintained, bear this in mind – it may cause frustration if you are unfortunate enough to experience it. Additionally, I would also suggest backing up your saves regularly, just in case.

If you enjoyed the previous two games, you will still get some mileage out of this instalment. If the other titles in the series were not your cup of tea, best to avoid this one as it is practically more of the same.

Has gameplay mixed from 1 and 2 deathspank like grenades from second one but crossbows from first one. Still has fun and comedic story with different references and jokes, if you like ARPGs and some cheesyish comedy, this should be game for you (just like deathspank 1 and 2).
They got rid of the runes and added the abilities to higher tier justice weapons which is nice.
In my opinion this is weakest deathspank out of the three, I enjoyed first and second more. 2nd > 1st > 3rd would be my ranking order I guess.

Part where you have to use ship is bugged above 60fps, more fps you have, the slower you move.
At first I thought this was a joke due to the lake being polluted and that's why you move slow but nope just fps issue which wasn't even problem in thongs of virtue.

Sadly Hothead moved to mobile games and seems like deathspank story was left kinda open (they could have made it end at 2nd) and ending area has cave entrances with picture of road workers and text "DLC under construction" but only DLC is the CO-OP character.

For completionists they made achievement to play game through insane difficulty but to unlock insane it requires to first complete game on any difficulty, so basically just forcing you to play the game twice. Personally I find pretty close to 0 replay value in Deathspanks (even though I played them all through again but it was with 7-8 years between the playthroughs.) so it was just a chore.

Jeu de rôle couloir issue de la saga Deathspank, The Baconing est doté d’un humour (made in Ron Gilbert) qui fait mouche. La performance est d’autant plus réussie qu’il saura même satisfaire les anglophobes dont je fais partie (sur ce type de jeu en particulier).

Mélange original entre RPG et beat them all, le titre est accessible et drôle. Les experts préféreront la combinaison souris/clavier pour une visée plus précise, mais j’ai pu faire le 100% à l’aide ma manette Xbox sans difficulté.
Les voix/sons/musiques sont bien amenées et collent avec le ton léger de l’aventure, notre ami Deathspank étant le pivot de cette étrange alchimie. Un bémol sur l’impact inexistant des coups que l’on porte, au corps à corps en particulier.

Graphiquement c’est un peu fouillis mais original, ce qui pourrait définir l’ensemble du jeu finalement.
Menus simples et efficaces, co-op locale et succès globalement bien pensés, sauvegarde Cloud et patch FR disponibles.
Il ne manque au titre que des cartes Steam, la coopération en ligne et un réel boost de vitesse pour notre héros (pas mal de backtracking hélas).

13 euros pour un titre de 2011 c’est un peu cher, mais le jeu est rafraîchissant + satisfaisant. Je le recommande sans difficulté.

First off; Do yourself a favor and play this game with an XBox controller (if you need to buy it make sure it is the PC version (which has a receiver in the box).

This is a great game. Although it seems hack and slash it actually isn't really. Not that there is not a lot of hacking and slashing going on but I think you would want to play this game more for its humor and unique characters and quests. This game has its own unique style that doesn't really fit into any of the regular categories. The style of the graphics is like from a comic book. I played the game on easy and although you die frequently you always are resurrected near an outhouse that is in the neighbourhood so it is not much of a problem.

The fun in the game mainly comes from the conversations you have with the various characters the description of items the silly quest and the environments. Graphics and voice acting are unique and superb (especially the 'Elvis' character was done very well).

If you like it don't forget to check out the other deathspanks and the first two 'On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness' titles.

游戏按键设置满满的BUG，ASDW的方向键按了没反应。物品快捷键不能用，进入设置界面，重新设置，默认的ASDW还是不可以，鼠标点方向还要点攻击。好不容发现可以用手柄，结果是第二人才能用，虽然是个老游戏但是也不能这么坑人吧。。

They should make more of this. First of all the game is unique in its pop-up book art style. I personally love it. Of course the first reason anyone should be playing this is its humor. There aren't lots of different tracks as the game music but the game isn't overly long, so it works and the music is quite nice imho. This is an action-RPG where you go through the game doing main and side quests.

Blocking and reflecting ranged attacks with your shield is very satisfying. You need to time those. I love it. In order to multiply your damage, you should alternate between your different melee weapons. I'd imagine the game would be very difficult and tedious to play otherwise. There are several damage types in the game. Some enemies are weak to fire, others weak to nature etc. but if you're doing the stuff I mentioned above you can safely ignore those. I played in normal difficulty btw. You have a ranged weapon which you can charge for a stronger attack and a "Justice" weapon which can perform special attacks with special effects (stun, extra damage, drilling, explosion, minimizing the enemies etc.). Those special attacks can be used when you fill up your justice meter. The more combos or perfect blocks/reflections you do, the faster your meter fills up.

I played the game with a controller. I suggest you do the same as all face buttons can be used simultaneously for different weapons. On keyboard&mouse setup you'll need to press tab to change between your weapon sets iirc (two active at a time). The inventory management is simplified. I think it is a very good system. You have a literal grinder in your inventory which can be used to grind useless or weaker gear to money instead of going to the town and selling them manually.

15 hours well spent. I wish there were more :(

Aww yeeees :) Another Death Spank adventures with hilarious humor and great voice acting, two things I can't have enough of :)
Mechanically game is more or less as previous ones, as far as I can remember anyway :) But playing it now, couple years after release feel like it would be good to make it little bit better, mostly in GUI quests page and inventory, it is not bad just it could be better but like I said, game was released 6 years ago, different times and no 4k screens in sight anywhere back then :)

Kurzum: Stimmungsvoll, spaßig und kurzweilig. Habe etwa 18 Stunden fürs das komplette durchspielen, im normalen Schweierigkeitsgrad, benötigt.

Man sollte einigermaßen Englisch können und mit der Steuerung, vor allem in schwierigen Kämpfen, nachsichtig sein. Leider lässt sich die Kamera nicht schwenken, was vertikale Kämpfe unübersichtlicher macht.

La présentation m'a donné terriblement envie et une fois en jeu, cela correspond.
Humour décalé, graphismes en adéquation, et cinématiques géniales.
La prise en main a été un peu laborieuse pour moi et je ne suis pas encore à l'aise dans les combats. Mais ça va venir.

Tout est bon sauf le prix... 13€ c'est abusé. A sa sortie en 2011, mais pas en 2017!
Je l'ai payé moins d'1 euro. Mr Steam, faut arreter de nous prendre pour des couillons.

Sok játékkal játszottam már az évek során, van jobb rosszabb de általában abba amibe ténylegesen is pénzt fektetek nem igazán szoktam csalódni. És így voltam ezzel a The Baconing-nél is. Már a trailer és a képek alapján is sejtettem hogy bizony ez egy humor bomba lesz, ésss igen az is lett. De nem akárhogy.

Maga a megjelenése a játéknak is megér egy misét. Mert hogy Spanktopia egy rajzolt kicsit rajzfilmes enyhén cell shaded beütést kapott. Amit megtekertek azzal hogy a terep és a karakterek 3D-sek. De minden más inkább 2D-s. Pontosabban kicsit ilyan mintha egy díszlet lenne az egész, vagy egy kihajtogatható könyv. Ez egy igen furcsa, de még is megkapó megjelenést ad az egésznek. Látszik a kreatív gondolkozás ilyen téren, amit abszolút díjazok.
A hangeffektek teljesen rendben vannak, a soundtrack is elmegy egynek, bár egy idő után idegesítő lehet kicsit, amit egyébként a főszereplő is meg meg jegyez néha, így kicsit Deadpool-os beütése van a dolgnak ilyen szempontból.

Játékmenet terén igazából sok új nincs a nap alatt. A storeban RPG címkével van feltüntetve, én inkább azt mondanám rá hogy egy H&S. Fix kamera nézet van, a karaktert bill-el vagy egérrel is lehet irányitani. Rajtunk áll igazából. A szokásos dolgok megvannak, potion-ok (amiknek a limitje 5 db de hogy miért fogalmam sincs), HP feltöltő ételek, fegyverek, páncélok, stb. Az inventory szerintem kicsit kusza lett, de annyira nem zavart, hogy ne tudjam megszokni. Lehetett volna rajta dolgozni még egy kicsit.
Aztán természetesen van fejlődési rendszer is, ami 20 szintben kimerül, de ez kb. lefedi a teljes játékidőt is úgy hogy teljesen korrekt. Szintenként passzív skill-eket kapunk, amit annyira nem fogunk észre venni, de van ilyen is. Ami még plusz az az hogy akár Co-op-ban is lehet játszani.
A harcrendszer egyszerű nagyon, pajzzsal lehet védekezni illetve a lövedékeket vissza ütni, a többivel megy csapkodni vagy lővöldözni. Ami plusz az a charge attack, egy adott idő után (sikeres találatok után töltödik fel) bizonyos fegyvereknél lehet egy erősebb támadást használni. Ami talán csak probléma az az ellenfelek hitbox-a. Annyira precízre sikeredtek hogy könnyen megesik az hogy azt hiszed rákattintasz, közben pedig nem és így sokszor előfordulhat az hogy ahelyett hogy támadni a dicső DeathSpank, inkább átmegy egy másik helyre.
Az ellenfelek kellően változatosak, és viccesek is. Természetesen totál elnagyoltak, akárcsak a bossok. De ez ne zavarjon senkit sem, itt ennek így kellett lennie.

De mivel több ez a játék mint a többi H&S? Kapunk egy olyan sztorit ami ugyan rém egyszerű (és mondjuk egy az egyben kifigurázza a Gyűrűk Úrát), de még is szorakoztató. És nem is a cél az érdekes, hiszen már az elején lehet tudni, hogy a jó? fog győzni. Itt inkább az oda vezető út, a párbeszédek a karakterek közzöt, az idétlen helyzetek azok amik zseniállisá teszik az egészet. Amit lehet kifiguráz a játék, a hercegnőktől kezdve a kalózokon át az UFO-kig mindent. Mindenből viccet csinál, amiből csak lehet. Ha ez még nem elég sokszor a DeathSpank is kikacsint a játéból, kicsit olyan mintha tudná hogy ő egy játékban van. Ezt kicsit nehezebb észre venni, de van amikor csipkelődik. Pl. van egy megjegyzése a vége felé, hogy ide most illett volna a Rocky zenéje (nem biztos hogy ezt a filmet mondta, de egy filmcímet), de sajnos nem volt keret rá. Zseniállis. Maga a karakter egyébként egy antihős. Azt hiszi hogy jót cselekszik, de nem feltétlen. A jó érdekében kb. feldúl mindent. Pl. élteti a zsarnokokat és a korrupciót.
Ami meg bonusz az az irdatlan sok kikacsintás más játékokra, valós személyekre, a film és zene iparra. Ahogy ezt összerakták így egy az egyben az valami zseniális.

Összeségében egy nagyon korrektűl összerakott, élvezetes, vicces, pörgős játékot kapunk. Ami játékidőben nagyjából középmezőnyben van a maga 12 órájával. Ebbe minden küldetés benne van ami csak a játékban van, úgy hogy ennél rövdebb idő alatt is végig lehet pörgetni. Nyilván nem hibátlan a játék, pl. 1-2 mechanika lehetne jobb is, pl. az étel használata. Vagy az inventory lehetne kevésbé kusza. De ennek ellenére egy abszolút szerethető játékot kapunk, ami nem tökéletes ugyan de élvezhető. Nos Tanga pusztitásra fel barátaim!

The Baconing é um action RPG (estilo diablo) bem divertido, eu ainda não joguei os dois anteriores, mas gostei muito do estilo desse game. Cheio de piadas e referencias, sátiras a games e filmes, tudo variando do mais bobo ao super engraçado. O hack and slash é bem funcional, o jogo possui side quest e uma dificuldade bem variada. Divertido e simples, não muito longo, mas também não é curto. Vale a pena.

The Baconing is a fun action RPG (diablo style), I have not played the previous two, but I really liked the style of this game. Full of jokes and references, satires to games and movies, everything ranging from the most silly to the super funny. The hack and slash is very functional, the game has side quest and a very varied difficulty. Fun and simple, not too long, but also not short. Worth it.

I don't know why The Baconing ended up in my inventory, but I can definitely tell you I'm glad I didn't pay for it.

Apparently The Baconing is a sequel, which is surprising since they don't mention that at all anywhere on the storefront. But because it's a sequel, it expects you to know how to somewhat know how to play from past experience. I did not. It also expects you to be familiar with a bunch of characters from the previous games. I was not. This kind of ruined the entire first level for me, since it consisted of nothing but going around to characters I had never seen before and reminiscing about events I was unaware of.

Przesycony specyficznym humorem kompetentny AeRPeG (Diablo, Torchlight) z DeathSpankiem w roli głównej. Przez niemal całą rozgrywkę uśmiech nie schodzi z twarzy. W końcowej fazie, nawet na najniższym poziomie trudności, potrafi być wyzwaniem. 8/10

Like a fine wine, enough of this game will have you laughing like mad. Too many good things to say/write. This game is one of my favorites and has been since it was released. If you haven't played it yet, do so, you won't regret it.
