[h2]TL;DR Review[/h2]
+ TaleSpire is the best multi-player interactive [b]Three-dimensional[/b] world building sandbox yet produced by humankind.
+ TaleSpire has no peer for table-top miniature combat in 3 dimensions. Period.
+ It has great graphics, lighting, and effects relative to its scale, complexity and sandbox nature. There is a good list of quality ambient background sounds and music (with both fantasy and sci-fi offerings in both), and the built-in tools for measuring distance as well as showing exact areas for sphere, cone, and line AoE spells/effects are superb and easy to use.
There are a huge number of mods, plug-ins, and API integrations (such as D&D Beyond and Roll-20 Character Sheets, for example.)
+ It's a small dev group with most members doing multiple jobs on Talespire, and updates are constant and community content is massive and high quality.
- With such limitless sandbox options and the exponentially increased difficulty in implementing certain desired features in this 3D space, there are many features that are common to 2D VTTs that are either not yet implemented, or are currently implemented in a more cumbersome way (Fog of War, for example).
? The DM/GM needs to be willing to put in some moderate effort to facilitate a good experience, and a high level of effort to really get the most out of TaleSpire (Building quality custom boards does take some time!). The interface and options take a bit of getting used to, and can even seem off-putting/daunting at first. Know this. Embrace this. Hit it head on and you will love the results. Check out Nket's YouTube tips/tutorials as a great starting point.
? The players need to be willing to put in some setup time and a low-moderate effort to understanding the 3D camera controls etc. Expect the first few sessions to need a bit of patience with everyone getting those controls learned. There are also a lot of REALLY helpful plugins (With a simple plugin install, you can have your D&D Beyond character sheet up and simply click in that browser window to label/apply modifiers to your dice roll in game, for example - it's beautiful.)

[h2]Target Audience Summary:[/h2] If you're a tabletop gamer without the luxury of having a consistent local group to play with, it's a no-brainer purchase with one caveat.
If you loved Baldur's Gate 3's combat system and are looking to dive into pen and paper gaming based on that experience, this is arguably the best transition mechanism between those two worlds (if there is any better VTT I am just not aware of it), with the same caveat as above.
[h3]The caveat:[/h3] While there is a positively [b]bewildering[/b] amount of freely available content (that is ever growing), and said content is positively [b]a pleasure[/b] effort-to-value wise to integrate into your group's world as far as the simplicity of accessing, retrieving, and sharing said content with your player group goes, there [b]IS[/b] some required learning and most likely at least an hour or two of initial configuration and integration with other programs, depending on your individual set-up.

[h3]Just rambling babble on my experience so far[/h3]
Background: Purchased TaleSpire just about a year ago, and have 215 hours into it at the time of this review. Probably the first 50 or 60 of those hours was as a player (our entire group jumped in at the same time, a DM and 5 PCs). We lost 1 player along the way, and as the first campaign ended, that campaign's DM turned one of the NPCs from said campaign into his PC, and my character went off to other business with me taking over as DM for the next campaign with 4 players/characters moving forward into this new campaign. The rest of those hours are me as DM.
The first campaign began as a low-fantasy (no magic) world with relatively conventional settings, mostly overworld town/village/wilderness locations, and as it progressed we got more into dungeons, magic was "rediscovered" and the excellent finale was a huge push into what TaleSpire has to offer, dimensional travel shifting quickly between wildly different climates/terrains (a foggy white limbo-space, to a massive glacial battlefield with dozens of frost giants, ice trolls, etc. combatants, to an ancient elven fortress in a jungle, to a thieves den cavern/dungeon, and finally to an infinite library corridor with riddles being the main challenge).
The second campaign saw the PCs hurtled across the Astral and ending up in a very strange "bubble", a material-plane massive spherical "eddy" within the Astral plane, with a gateway to plane of air above and a gateway to the plane of water below, altered gravity, and floating islands and debris blasted there by magical mishaps across the realms/planes as well as detritus dragged into the eddy there from the Astral itself, over thousands of years. This campaign has seen the PCs on "astralroid" like floating bodies, with ancient fortresses and tombs embedded in chunks of rock ripped from worlds long forgotten, a massive, sprawling, heavily enchanted three-tier city/urbanscape. An ancient floating palace/citadel, an "Astral Mos Eisley" type tavern that sees celestials and liches socializing or conducting business at tables feet apart, and even some ship to ship boarding actions in the strange open space of this odd place.
The point of sharing all of that is that TaleSpire has allowed us to immerse ourselves in all of that in a hugely entertaining way. Both the engine itself, AND the absolutely stellar amount of community content (check out [url=talestavern.com] TalesTavern[/url] great example) have really allowed for some incredible creativity and immersion you're just not ever going to achieve with a 2D VTT, or even an in-person table-top experience (unless you're a multi-millionaire with a huge amount of space in your dedicated gaming hangar.)
For me, learning as I go, I did start out with a relatively simple "giant blob of rock" (one of these kind of "asteroid-like" bodies floating around in this place) as the scene where the players were thrust into the campaign. I watched a couple of building tutorials, and then grabbed some "slabs" off of TalesTavern (some cool fortresses) which you literally just copy to your clipboard, alt-tab back into TaleSpire, CTRL+V and you have a fully furnished ruined castle you can drag anywhere and then sink into the terrain. I then added in a few chunks of rock to shore up parts that were just hanging in the air, added 3 other separate ruins areas, added friendly and enemy NPCs (hid some from view, and created some DM-only hidden markers with DC values for passive perception checks), and then populated the area with various props from the plentiful sets available in the base game and integrated community content.
I used what is called a "hide volume" to mask a giant Githyanki Astral Dreadnaught (again, snipped right off of TalesTavern) and revealed it late into a massive battle as the party successfully signaled an allied ship to come and get them in the nick of time.
That was my very first session (Oct 2025), and my understanding and familiarity/comfort with the interface and options has only grown since. As of this writing, the party is delving into an ancient tomb with a complicated past (it has floated in this "eddy" for hundreds of years), and is currently in a very close fight where they are learning the pros (channeling the enemy into a killing zone) of using a hallway as a tactical advantage, as well as the cons (eating a lightning bolt directly down said hallway).
It is a decent amount of work, and if you really get into it, it's a lot of work (compared to a 2D VTT), but for players that demand more, for players that experienced the amazing combat options offered by Baldur's Gate 3 or Divinity Original Sin for example, it is absolutely worth the player and DM/GM learning curves respectively.

I am on an Intel Core i7 9700F @ 3.00GHz, 32 GB RAM Dual-Channel @ 1069MHz (15-15-15-36), with a 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660, and this game reaches highs of 70º C, and that's with a water cooler...
Despite not liking the low poly graphics, I was hoping to be able to have lots of creative freedom with this. The only way this piece of software could work for me was if they implemented a way to create our own minis and models and import them. Yes, nowadays you can create minis with AI. You create your image with something like ChatGPT and export it to some AI that turns it into a 3D OBJ file. And it comes out even better than the minis in this game. FOR FREE! Talespire only allows you to import minis from Heroforge and other paid sites (and Heroforge also looks awful IMO). Aaaand you can't scale blocks and walls. The building sets and objects are very limited, you can't change colors or textures (and that should be base game feature), even after two years of this game sitting on my library (yeah, I was hoping it would get better).
Also, I can't play it without running the risk of frying my machine, so, it is a hard no for me.
Yet another piece of software I was hoping I could use to bring my D&D ideas to life, but turns out to be another deception. There are no decent options for this on Steam right now, so, Talespire, do not feel singled out... Dungeon Alchemist is no better, trust me. All the rest look like a cheap 3D game from 2010.
I am not happy to give this a bad review, when I first saw it I got really excited... It has a lot of potential, but needs more options, freedom and optimization. Yeah, it is Early Access, but have been for a long, long time...
At this point, I found out I can create better dungeons (or prototypes at least) on Conan Exiles. Lots of building sets and objects, and a lot more with mods. Or, better yet, learn Unity and Blender. Hell, even FlowScape, a dead software, gives me better options. Sorry to say, but your dream DM crative tool is not on Steam right now...
TaleSpire is hands down the only VTT that makes me genuinely excited to run role-playing games remotely. It does take some time and effort to get the hang of it, but the results are incredible. Truly an amazing tool for any GM or player!

Still quite some stuff missing for the full DnD experience (mainly some effects) but for whats its worth, amazing foundation, great community support and I'm really excited to see where this will go - also big props to the devs for working so hard on this with regular updates and fixes
P.S.: For Linux users, make sure to enable systemd-oomd and deactivate steam overlay to avoid a system freeze

I can not recommend this game.
It does not launch any self-hosted session.
There is just a loading icon and any action to start or join a campaign results in a timeout.
And it is in Early Access for a long time to fix this.
Cannot recommend Talespire enough. The single greatest platform to be creative and to bring the imaginations of your tabletop campaigns, to life!

My D&D group has been using this for over a year now. With the amount of content on tales tavern as well as being able to import customized characters directly from hero forge, We will probably use it for most of our campaigns. Regrettably, I could not find a good way to make this work for a space exploration campaign, so we could not use it for that.
Our playgroup has used a lot of visualization tools over the years, and though the depth of the encounter building in Tale Spire tends to chew up a ton of time and energy, our DM selflessly takes time out of his day to create compelling stories and worlds for us to explore.
From all the tools we've used Tale Spire is among the best, if not the best. The ability to import player figures, modded models and user generated content really opens the door to your experience.
The style is perfect for the use case, and I can't give anything but high praise to the title. I suggest anyone who plays tabletop games semi regularly online to politely ask their DM if it's something they would feel up to.
It truly gives the tools to immerse yourself into group that's hard to reach without in person gameplay.

Otros VTT permiten acceso gratuito para jugadores. Aquí cada participante necesita licencia. El programa ofrece escenarios en 3D, iluminación y miniaturas. Tú no puedes gestionar fichas de personaje dentro del sistema. El juego no incluye seguimiento de puntos de golpe, habilidades, estados o inventario. Para campañas con reglas como DnD necesitas hojas externas o servicios web.
El sistema de dados muestra resultados, pero no aplica modificadores ni efectos de reglas. Tú tienes que calcular resultados y registrar cambios fuera del programa. El software no gestiona turnos ni automatiza condiciones.
El editor permite construir mapas con piezas modulares. Crear encuentros requiere colocar elementos uno por uno. No existe integración oficial con sistemas de reglas completos. El producto funciona como herramienta visual para representar escenas en tres dimensiones. Tú no encuentras funciones integradas para seguimiento de personajes o resolución de reglas dentro del entorno.
Com certeza o VTT mais mercenario que ja vi, alem de comprar o jogo, vc tem que comprar os assentos para os jogadores, e como se isso ja não bastasse, para vc usar a integração de tokens personalizados do titancraft e heroforge, vc precisa pagar por cada token que fizer, e cada um custa em torno de 7 dolares. Não vale a pena usar essa ferramenta.
