Autant être honnête, je l'ai acheté parce que je l'avais étant gamin, J'avoue que le gameplay reste sympathique. Mais comme beaucoup de jeux des années 1990 à début 2000, le jeu a vraiment pris de l'âge en ce qui concerne les graphisme et même le gameplay. J'ai vraiment du mal à croire que ce jeu n'est pas recommandable à des gens qui ne sont pas nostalgiques ou qui ne s'intéressent pas, au moins, aux jeux rétros.

ça reste un bon jeu, très sympathique au demeurant, mais il faut être honnête, vous trouverez mieux...

I enjoyed playing this game back in the day but I'm leaving a negative review because it's too much hassle getting this to run on Win 10/11. I finally got the graphics working after using dgVoodoo instead of nglide (which didn't work for me), but then I kept getting the "spinning cockpit" issue and couldn't fix it using all the obvious solutions.

I tried to get this game to run properly but nothing helped, maybe its good but I never knew. Keep in mind this wont run on Windows 10/11 and apparently some tinkering is supposed to make it work in my case I did get it to "run" but I couldnt see crap because the resolution is too low and cant be maximized either.

I am a Delta Force Veteran and enjoyed those games (classics) so yeah I wanted to enjoy this too

Tachyon: The Fringe galt im Jahr 2000 als ein Geheimfavorit. Es hatte für seine Verhältnisse eine fantastische Grafik. Das freie Fliegen durch ein offenes Weltall stach heraus, sowie die sehr schön gebauten Raumschiffe und -stationen.

Auch heute kann sich das Spiel noch sehen lassen. Raumkämpfe fühlen sich rund und actionreich an. Geschichtlich taucht man in eine sehr lebendige Welt hinein, in der die Vorstellung, wie die Gesellschaft in der fernen Zukunft aussehen kann, wach und sehr präsent ist. Dank TNT News, also Nachrichten, die sogar von Nachrichtensprecher vertont sind, ist es, als würde man wirklich mitbekommen, was im 26. Jahrhundert aktuell ist.

Schade ist nur, dass es keine deutschen Sprachausgaben gibt. Damals hatte man nicht mehr die erforderliche Zeit. Sollte man der englischen Sprache aber nicht abgeneigt sein, wird man durch sehr professionelle Synchronsprecher durch das Spiel getragen. Allen voran von Bruce Campbell, den man aus Klassikern wie Armee der Finsternis kennen dürfte, der mit seiner lockeren und frechen Art den Hauptcharakter spricht und dieser Figur wunderbar in Szene setzt. Jake Logan zuzuhören ist oft ein Genuss, gerade wegen seiner Art. Besonders amüsant ist er zu Frauen.

Ein Manko ist das Gameplay. Geübte Spieler werden in 10 Stunden nicht oft auf Missionen treffen, die wirklich einen Anspruch haben. Wenn man weiß, wie man sein Schiff ausbaut und wie man in die Kämpfe geht, wird man in diesem Spiel auf nur wenig ernste Herausforderungen treffen und ich glaube, dahinter liegt dann doch die damalige Unerfahrenheit, Spiele zu produzieren, die auch schwierig sein können, was vielleicht logisch ist, Spiele wie Tachyon: The Fringe gab es damals noch kaum.

В начале было не понятно, как управлять, когда разобрался стало интересно, а потом скучно (где-то в районе туманности и появления так называемых демонов). В дальнейшем ты просто хочешь пройти игру без восторга или чего-либо еще, просто посмотреть, чем все кончится. Есть несколько миссий которые вызывают проблемы, но в целом все проходимо, особенно если научиться перекидывать энергию с ускорителя на оружие. Предполагаю в игре есть прохождение за другую сторону конфликта, что хорошо, но насколько оно отличается меня не сильно заинтересовало.
Проблема для меня что я играл в игру с подобным управлением в том же жанре, и там было удобнее. Здесь я не смог привыкнуть к управлению до конца, в том числе так и не понял есть ли кнопки движения в бок, те кнопки что я назначал ничего не делали.
Звук местами хрипит, смена на CD звук в настройках перед запуском игры немного поправила дело, но не сильно. И да с выкрученными на минимум ползунками звуков в большинстве ситуаций при приближении камеры к кораблю будет не слышно ничего кроме двигателей этих кораблей. Вылетела игра один раз за все время.
Всех, кого я нанимал для помощи в миссиях, показали себя на 0% эффективности, то есть делали ровно ничего кроме того, что подлетали к кораблю и как было описано выше глушили все звуки. Может ими можно было управлять или что-то вроде того, но любой корабль, который есть на локации полезнее того, кого вы нанимаете.
Игру, наверное, все-таки не стоит покупать, но и поставить не рекомендую тоже не могу. Может мне нравится сам жанр, а может дело еще в чем-то. Думаю, что есть просто игры лучше в данном жанре.

I first played this game more than 20 years ago, and recently picked it back up when I found it on Steam. It is very enjoyable, has a great underlying story line, and was ahead of its time when released. Even with today's new terrain models and graphics, it still works. Add the nGlide wrapper, and you can play this on your Windows 11 computer.

The single player is fun to work through. It is not exceptionally challenging, but it is fun. The BASE WARS and ARENA are where this game excels in the entertainment category. Get a few friends involved and you will lose yourselves for hours!

I'm a sucker for all things Bruce Campbell, just a childhood favourite actor of mine. Loved him in the Evil Dead series and The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.

So when I heard he voiced the main character in this game, I couldn't not play it.

It's an old school game, and honestly it could be quite the pain to get running at a higher resolution. There's a decent guide on Steam telling how to get it running, but I still had issues with a constant spinning bug when loading into a map. I tried searching the forums for help but couldn't really find anything apart from someone saying to turn off capture mouse in the program used to get this game running on modern systems.

Even then it still didn't stop my issue but then suddenly it did work, so I'm really not sure what happened to fix it, but it did? It's confusing, I didn't question it and just started playing.

I had a lot of fun with it, I played on the easiest difficulty and still had a few issues here and there on some missions but it was mostly fine. Easy enough for me to beat it and I enjoyed the story.

It seems like there's two major paths where you pick a faction to join, I ended up joining the anti-corp faction and was satisfied with its conclusion. I may attempt to see the other side some day but for now I'm happy with what I've experienced and have a never-ending backlog to get through that I'd rather do than replay games I've already finished.

Honestly, if you can get it to work, it's a pretty fun space sim with a quirky main character and interesting missions to complete.

I'd love for more games like these to be made tbh

Played this game again, the other day. A recommendation is to use the fixed nGlide driver for an even better experience from here (https://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide/compatibility).

In any case, the game plays incredibly smoothly on modern-day hardware, and aside from "sounds in space", it's just such an enjoyable single-player experience hearing Bruce Campbell's constant banter, along with the smoothness of keyboard and mouse controls. Ultimately, one of those works that IMO still holds up because the moment to moment gameplay is just that enjoyable. I honestly wish this game got a remaster just to get a fresh graphical coat of paint, and wonder why this style of game fell off.

I have very, very little bad to say about this game beyond "I wish the Galspan route went on longer. I finished it in a day." =P

I first played this game when it came out, and I enjoyed it this time around every bit as much as the first time. As far as the plot is concerned, this game has two very interesting possible stories to follow - each with their own unique take on a well crafted universe of lore and fun characters. If you've ever seen a Bruce Campbell movie, you'll love this game by default as he voices the main character. The game mechanics and controls are truly ahead of their time. I have yet to play another title that has the same level of scientific realism integrated into their space flight gameplay. Do yourself a favor and play this if you want a fun, space flight combat experience - especially if realistic physics are a draw for you.

Tachyon is such an awesome game from its time. If you are a new buyer just remember that it is a 24 yr old game and requires a little patience with it. But it is really fun for a space game. Plenty of combat, cool mission options that you get to choose, pick sides if you want, and have a cool time running your ship in space. Never got to play multiplayer personally, but obviously that doesn't matter now. An all around fun game that lets you progress through a story and grow yourself back up from scratch.

Many space combat options and abilities I wish were in other games that just don't ever seem to be there. The "slide" ability in this game is amazing cause space would allow for such a thing to happen and so many other games just miss it as an option. One of my favorites.

I expected Tachyon: The Fringe to be a lot more slower, simulator type of game but no its actually a pretty fast paced, action oriented game more then anything else. The game is, obviously, very old but there are some interesting things in it here and there. Mainly the story and the voice acting which is pretty well I did have some weird sounding voice acting but like it wasn't cuz of the acting itself it just sounded as if there was something wrong with the audio you know? Like an audio bug or something which is to be expected from a game this old some setting might just be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up and doesn't work well with modern computers who knows. Either way even though the voice acting is good and the story is interesting the gameplay loop is very repetative and boring to the point where it makes me dislike the game.

+Ran without any issues on my system. Others are saying you need a patch for it to run on modern systems but I didn't need one, it just worked. No crashes, no major bugs to speak of.
+The game looks alright, sounds alright. Graphics and sound wise nothing major to compliment and nothing awful to really ♥♥♥♥ on.
+You get to use a few different ships, there's a few different guns, lasers and missiles etc to choose from, there are other upgrades like an upgrade that can show you how much health and armor your enemy still has, an upgrade that'll show you a targeting reticle on moving targets so you can hit them easier etc.
+The story is pretty interesting and the voice acting is good.
+The controls are alright. Not the easiest I've seen but I've definitely seen harder controls too. Pretty sure you can remap stuff if you need but I didn't, the default was good enough for me.

-Like I said you'll get to see and use a few different ships which is all cool. Sadly I wouldn't say that they "feel" any different from each other. Not by a huge margin at least. Even though the cockpit of the vehicles changes it isn't a huge change and most of the time you'll be occupied with the HUD to really notice the different cockpit. The changes in the HUD from ship to ship can be a bit bigger and nicer and you'll never really feel lost with a new ship cuz the HUDs all follow the same logic with their layout with very small changes. Aside from the very small, hard to notice visual changes like I said the ships all feel very samey to me so that sucks.
-There were times where the voice acting got weird but rather then the acting itself it was just the voice, the sound that was all messed up. Probably something to do with playing a very old game on a modern system. Didn't take away from the experience that much but I still wanna mention it.
-The gameplay loop is very repetative and boring. Take a job, choose a ship from the ones you have, modify it a lil before starting if you want, watch a short cutscene, press A to fast travel, watch a short cutscene, press A to fast travel, watch a short cutscene repeat until you get to your objective. When you do get to your objective do the job you took. Maybe you're fighting some enemy ships and the fighting is really boring I wouldn't call the AI great or even good. After its done press A again and watch cutscenes until you get to the station then take another job and repeat.

Its not the worst game out there but the gameplay just isn't there. I feel like I'm watching a lot of cutscenes just to partake in some mediocre space battles then watching more cutscenes. Considering the age of the game its a pretty easy download right like its not even 1GB in size, it would run on a potato PC too and it ran on my modern system with no issues without even needing a patch. I bought this on my older computer which was a very potato computer but never played it and now with my more modern, new computer I can just focus on more modern games so old games like these don't hold the same meaning to me as they did when I was still on my old, potato PC. Most other people out there have computers better then mine so I doubt they'll even take a look at this game when they see its age and the graphics. In my old PC I probably would have given this a thumbs up because my choice in games was a lot more limited but now with my new one I don't need to do that, I can just play more modern space games and I think the same logic applies to a lot of others too. Not the worst game out there but the gameplay isn't there and with more modern, better alternatives there isn't really a need to try this one unless your PC sucks and you can't play newer games.

I played SO much of this game as a teenager, crazy good campaign and phenomenal multiplayer. If anyone out there remembers the 2000-2002 era of Tachyon clans I was in Phoenician Republic and later New Dawn. I still remember clans like Iconian Knights. Multiplayer is dead now obviously but imo Tachyon is still worth playing even now, the graphics hold up alright and the mechanics are still excellent., especially the "slide" function".

the control scheme would make the new kids whimper, the combat is better than star citizen. This game would destroy the market if it was remade with its full vision seen.

Don't adjust the control scheme ingame if you plan to play online, it uses the default setup. you will have to bind the keyboard buttons to your controls with wasd on thumb.

So growing up I played a demo for this game. I loved it, but the company behind this game had gone out of business and I couldn't find a copy of the game anywhere. Sadly, I never got the chance to continue the story. Fast forward over 15 years on a whim I decided to see if steam had this game...I am currently doing what a younger version of me never got to do and actually playing this amazing gem from a bygone era of gaming in it's entirety. If games like Descent and Freespace were ever your thing you gotta give this a try!

Rare space flight combat sim where you do missions being based at various space stations instead of a carrier as is usually the case in such games. Not the open world Elite/Privateer type game as the description might suggest, just a different kind of Wing Commander/X-Wing. You CANNOT fly where you want, when you want, nor do any kind of commodity trading. You can't even leave the station until you choose a mission!

Hidden gem. This is a Space Sim / Shooter game. The graphics are vintage good. The music is OK. The story is good.

No bugs or crashes, but I can't get it to run on Win 10. I finished it on win 7.

Overall, this is a very good game. Of course, the main attraction is the voice of Bruce Campbell as the hero or the anti-hero. The space combat is satisfying with good controls. The game is long enough with plenty of missions. This is quality retro-gaming and a very recommendable experience. Did I mention that the voice of Bruce Campbell is featured here? Give it a go.

One of my all time favorite games. I have to have beaten this like a 100 times and I never got bored with it. Only reason I'm not playing it right now is I don't have a joystick anymore. But if I did.... Oh and even the multiplayer was really freaking fun. Granted, I don't even know if there are any servers up for it anymore. But back then when this came out... man.. They don't make games like this anymore :(. The devs for this game, NovaLogic, pioneered some pretty interesting stuff for the video game industry. I didn't realize they were behind the Delta Force Series. They also worked with the military early on? I kinda feel like they were like Westwood studios- Makers of incredible games that withstood the test of time and set a standard for entertainment but then were bought out by a bigger company and _________________________________. Nothing. Just nothing. Tachyon is an underrated, little known cornerstone of video game history. And I can't recommend it enough. This had come out around the time Freelancer did and, honestly, I still think Tachyon was/is the superior game. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely enjoyed the **** out of Freelancer and replayed it several times as well. But both games had the "space mercenary for hire who accepts contracts" idea and frankly Tachyon, although way more linear by comparison to Freelancer, still did it better imo. However, Freelancer definitely was the better known and more popular of the two games. I'm still not sure why. Tachyon has such a good story and they even roped in Bruce Campbell as the main character. My only negative was that you can't ever pilot anything larger than a fighter. However, that kinda fits in with the world and story so there's that. You can, however, blow up every last thing you come across except for the main stations if I remember correctly. 10/10 can't fawn over this one enough.

If you plan to run it on a modern OS you need to install nGlide and a patch for nGlide.
After that you have to change Tachyon.cfg to this:

When you have done that start the game from space.exe NOT from the Tachyon.exe otherwise launcher will overwrite your config file.

Another game I had on CD and bought again on Steam :-)
Back then I finished it a couple of times... It has two different story-lines to play, with different outcomes. Both are done very well. Some additional sidequests too.
Plenty of ships to buy and equip with different weapons and systems.

The Graphics is outdated at best... still the combat mechanics, wit subsystems to disable capital ships and such things is very good. Some really chalanging fights too.
Had a good Multiplayer supporting up to 64 Players, in a fighting/basebuilding sort of game. Do not know, if there is still a Server to be found...

Still the best arcade space game ever made! I love Freelancer and Starlancer they're great games but the voice acting and story and passion in tachyon makes it a must play arcade space shooter for me! It is one of my top 5 favorite games of all time, and if you have the time and patience to get it up and running (Yes it works on a modern PC with the help of nglide and some short tutorials) I promise you will enjoy it! I play through it every few years or so, and have just finished another play through, my original disk broke a few years ago and I couldn't give up there so I picked it up on steam. That's how much I love this game.

Game runs fine on Windows 11 with full 3d hardware acceleration without needing any tweaks. As an older game, resolution support is limited to what was common at the time, so you will have to settle for 1024x768 maximum. Other than this, there are no issues on Windows 11.

Edit: Not sure why some reviews claim the gam is unplayable on modern systems. I played using a laptop equipped with an Intel processor and an Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti graphics, as well as a desktop with an AMD Ryzen and Nvidia RTX 30 series card, and no problems at all.

It doesn't work well with Windows 10. The screen is partially blocked, making gameplay VERY frustrating. Steam refused to give me a refund even though it's just not properly working. So there you go, don't buy this game, and consider also not buying from Steam again, since they will not refund you. Thanks for nothing, Steam.

Highly underrated. The steam version is a bit tricky for me to get running perfect on modern hardware, imho the gog version is a lot better in that regard, but ofc your mileage may vary. The multiplayer is ofc dead as a dodo, which is a real shame since I used to really really love base wars two decades ago when this first came out. I still love playing the campaign though, especially the arena matches. and the winner is: JAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGAN.

THIS IS AN UNDERRATED GEM! Too bad Novalogic went bust. They made some really great games. And this was perhaps one of their greatest works.

It's got a decent story, decent space combat, and AMAZING voice acting by the one and only BRUCE CAMPBELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pro Tip: On newer machines get a piece of software called WindowsBorderlessGaming.

Im not understanding what has happened to the game. I had Tachyon on CD from first released. I had tried several times to install and run the game on my PC running win10 with no luck. Ive since downloaded the game through STEAM and after the initial download, viola, it was up and running. At that time the only issue was a smaller screen to operate the game, but everything else was working fine.
A day later, trying to open the game, I get to the start menu, click start, I get the loading game screen, then nothing, the loading screen closes and no game . I dont know why all of a sudden it has decided it wont work, any help would be appreciated >>>>>
The other issue Im having is when it shows the amount of time played indicating 104 minutes played is incorrect, download was around 15 minutes, time played after initial download around 15 minutes 30 minutes all up at most. Haven't been able to play it since.

Звездный Патруль обвиняет Джейк Логана в данном преступлении и не принимает, тот факт, что его подставили и отправляют в ссылку в систему Ядро без право на возвращение в систему Солнца. Мы начинаем делать свою карьеру по новой, где потом мы встречаем двух враждующих между собой фракций.
Корпорация ГалСпан, выкупила у Солнечной системы права на территории, которые давно заняла фракция Бора, которая считает их своим домом и плевать они хотели на ГалСпан и на покупку данного права.
И тут уже выбор за вами. Что вам важнее? Деньги и сила, или же свобода и преданные люди? Выбор только за вами.
Я перепрошел оба выбора и скажу, что мне больше симпатию проявляет все таки Бора.
Не понимаю тех, кто пишет отрицательные отзывы говоря о звуках и графике. Алло люди, игра 2000 года. Вы наигрались в шедевры более поздних годов и вы требуете от того же самого от игры 2000 года? Может вы еще старым играм на SEGA и Dendi предъявите ваши требования?
Игре ставлю 9.5/10 балл. Испортили балл некоторые баги, которые на самом деле сильно мешают игре.

This was one of the first video games I ever bought with my own money. As a kid, I loved it so much, and installed it so many times that, to this day, I still know the CD Key by heart.

It's definitely one of the great classic space games, right up there with all of the greats like Freelancer and Homefront, with similar features.

The bottom line is that its fully voice acted by BRUCE F****** CAMPBELL.

selling a game that literally does not work. i dont buy games to go through a lengthy patching process and laborious search for programs and patch files. i buy games to play. and this cannot be played without extensive effort on your part. this shouldnt be sold on steamj as is if who ever put it up isnt going to at least make sure it comes with the files necessary to run. do not buy this unless you really really liked this game back in the day but for anyone not blinded by nostalgia this is a non functioning game that i cant stress enough DOES NOT WORK

Typical old-school flight and fight siimulation with an interesting storyline of exiled pilot fighting side by side with wingmen you can freely choose with junky ships.
Mission consists of transportation, saving slaves, fighting pirates or corrupted wealthy men.
Very impressive graphics for 2000, but poor and easy missions,
At easy and medium difficulty it is like cutting butter with sharp knife. Only hard difficulty is worth a word.
Playing the game was a fun and refresh my memories about Wing commander 3 and 4.

Played it as a kid and still holds a special place in my heart. A fantastic old school space sim with a branching single player storyline that whilst simplistic is very fun especially with Bruce Campbell's voice!

The multiplayer arena and basewars along with the community was where it shined brightly though unfortunately the servers are no longer active. Load up with lateral thrusters and you'll be fine!

Played and still have the original disk version. I grew up with this game, and it's one of my big sources for my love of the sci-fi flight simulator type games. Even though its over 20 years old now, game still holds up.
Its not terribly difficult (even on hard) but the graphics, game play, and voice acting are very good considering when it was made.
Still one of the few games that I've played that offers 2 completely different story routes depending on the choices you make early on in the game. Provides a reason to replay it!
However, nothing can beat the soothing sound of heavy laser fire. This game will always hold a special place in my heart.
I recommend it to people looking for a little nostalgia and easy going fun without too much frustration. Also those tho want a fun game to just chill with and experience a good story.

I recommend this game because the game is a piece of gaming history. Bruce Campbell, NovaLogic, all the good stuff you remember from way-back-when.

However. I recommend you buy it on GOG. It runs literally right out of the box from GOG with hardware acceleration.

I spent about 2 hours trying everything to get it to run on Steam and Windows 10. Ultimately I turned off hardware acceleration in tachyon.cfg (in the install folder). This got it running! But in the end the missions became corrupted and would crash on mission success.

Save yourself the trouble and heartache and buy it on GOG and relive your teenage years // childhood with this sci-fi / flight gaming gem.

It's availability on STEAM spells one fact: more people need to play Tachyon The Fringe. If it got a remake similar to BattleZone it'd be even better, but the scale of this game and its narrative stays with me to this day. Even the clunky multiplayer arena is functional. Get your friends who aren't afraid of some dated graphics to get on this.
