I actually had this game in my library for years.. I fired it up once shortly after I purchased it and for some reason it just didn't connect with me.
I fired it up again recently looking for something that I could play over PBEM with a disabled friend in a longterm care facility. Man.. am I ever glad I did. I ended up loving this game so much that I went and bought us the WW1 and American Civil War titles as well.
Never could get the PBEM++ working but that is probably due to my friend's terrible internet connection. But I can see him playing this constantly as well..
Wonderful gem of a game. Even though we can't get the PBEM working for us, we share screenshots of our troubles and victories, so its still a good way to connect.

im a big oldschool fan of turn based tactic/strategy games. this game i skipped for years because of the terrible grafics. recently i got this and the ww1 spin off and i am completely addicted. its not a puzzle like panzer corp and some others. you have the freedom to apply your tactics&strategy. that is great fun!
Pretty easy to learn. Multi-player setup Matrix Games has works great. I don't know how the single player ai is but it's a pretty fun game to play with a friend.

In diesem Rundenstrategiespiel kann alles einzeln gesteuert werden. Das gibt einerseits die ultimative Kontrolle, andererseits artet es für mich in Fleissarbeit aus. 5 U-Boote jeweils 4 Runden lang in den Atlantik schicken, dann wieder 4 Runden händisch zurück zum reparieren. Das man über mehrere Runden Wegpunkte setzt: Fehlanzeige. Und wenn man dann eine Runde endlich erledigt ist, kann man minutenlang die Züge des Gegners beobachten, weil es zusätzlich "Berechnungs-Pausen" gibt. Da bleibe ich lieber bei HoI4.
I am a fan of this series. War in Europe is much more accessible to play than the one where you have to play both Europe and Pacific-I find that a bit too much on my plate. This game has a lot of great options such as Research and Diplomacy. You can pick and choose which countries you play to simplify things even more. You can even play with friends in a hot seat mode. Fog of War and weather is also modeled, as well as key historical "random events" which you can turn on or off individually for a great deal of customization. No two games need be alike, making for lots of re-playability.
The game is an incredible strategic game of the hex and chit "war game" genre. Despite the depth and overall complexity, the entry learning needing is minimal.
An overall addictive and engrossing experience.

Ich habe jetzt 800 Stunden in dem Spiel verbracht, und da ich es immer mal wieder spiele, um mir jedesmal andere Aufgaben zu stellen, werden es sicher auch 1000 werden.
Um genau zu sein, liebe ich die ganze Reihe. Und habe in allen Teilen der Reihe schon sehr viel Zeit gesteckt, aber in diesem eben die Meiste.
Strategic Command WWII: War in Europe ist ein Hardcore-Rundenstrategiespiel, in dem es entweder aufseiten der Achsenmächte oder der Alliierten, um den 2ten Weltkrieg geht.
Mit einem Äußeren, von dem sich wohl die allermeisten von Otto-Normalspielern schon abschrecken lassen. Ich finde die Grafik jedoch absolut zweckdienlich, und für das Genre, sogar recht gut.
Außerdem kann man sie durch Mods, noch um einiges übersichtlicher und schöner gestalten.
Die wahre Stärke des Spiels (und eigentlich der ganzen Reihe) liegt jedoch unter der "Haube". Beinharte Globalstrategie, in der man sich jeden Zug genug überlegen sollte. Was auch im Solo-Spiel an der sehr sehr starken KI liegt.
Truppen kaufen. Heer, Marine und Luftwaffe, alles ist vertreten. Diese dann ausbilden und verstärken. Truppen bewegen. Sie angreifen oder verteidigen lassen. Seegefechte führen, oder Truppen an Land anlanden. In Forschung investieren. Und diplomatisch agieren. Alles möglich.
Dazu kommt das sich jedes Partie, selbst wenn man das gleiche Szenario wählt, immer anders spielt.
Und Szenarios gibt es eben auch Einige. Auch durch Fans der Spielereihe, selbst gestaltete.
Mit jedem Zug wird eine Partie herausfordernder und die Aufgaben wachsen.
Und mit der Zeit entwickelt sich eine enorme Spannung. Bis man dann gewisse Peaks erreicht, die grundsätzlich eine Partie entscheiden können. In der Hauptkampagne zum Bleistift "Operation Barbarossa" oder der "D-Day", in denen sich das komplette Spiel nochmal drehen kann.
Das Spiel hat dieses typische "Heroes of Might and Magic - Gefühl", man fängt am Tage an, spielt ein bisschen, sagt sich, nur noch das schnell tun, und noch das erledigen, und bubb ist es Nacht, ohne das man es gemerkt hat...
Also wenn ein Otto-Normalspieler die Hürden Grafik und Genre, die eben nicht Mainstream sind, genommen hat, entdeckt Er eine echte Perle.
Das Spiel, ist wie wieder die gesamte Spielereihe, mit "Sehr Positiv" bewertet, und das eben absolut zurecht.
Und die Updatepolitik des Entwicklers "Fury Software" ist hervorragend. Das Spiel ist von 2016, und bekommt trotzdem immer mal wieder Updates, wie letztens erst im Oktober.
Ich kann es nur Jedem empfehlen, der sich nur ein bißchen für Rundenstrategie erwärmen kann...=)

Great Wargame, i love it
Here is a wargame that I believe almost gets it perfect. PERFECT! It's very easy to learn, especially when compared to Hearts of Iron IV or GG's War in the East. It's AI is fairly challenging, loads of scenarios and full campaigns, very editable with a good editor (this is so important as allows the player to play as they wish not how they must) and is still, after 10 years, enthusiastically supported by the Developers. I've asked two questions, at two different times, and had an answer the very next day. Amazing in this world of game companies that simply take your money and run. It has very simple to add or subtract Scripts, via a click, that allows you to tune certain aspects of your campaign at anytime. For example, don't want the USA sticking its nose into WW2 Europe and declaring war on you - CLICK. They won't. Loads of scripts already written and embedded within the game all to scratch that 'What if' itch.
Honestly, as a hex based, wargame focused specifically on Army down to Brigade level - it's about as perfect as you're going to get. It is less detail-oriented than GG-WitE and focuses more on war fighting than HOI4. Yes, you have logistics issues, defining research priorities, upgrading and reinforcing units but it's a simplified system which doesn't swamp you with details so you focus on the fun stuff - fighting. It's great as the blend is perfect.
The only con I can give, and I admit it is nitpicking, is its graphics quality of its map and it's counters; however, the game released in 2016! Nevertheless, this is quickly resolved with a mod or two. I think the Developers have left it like this to allow the user to choose what they prefer since the mods are super easy to install and turn on/off. I use the 'Iron Cross' counters, absolutely gorgeous and definitely made by a professional artist, and a map mod (Bleached Map_v2.1) which gives me the clarity and detail I need (so I don't end up in the marshes thinking it was forest) while greatly improving it's appearance. Done!
That's it. I am thrilled I found this wargame as it fills for me the gap of not being too complex nor too simple - its almost perfect - well - as perfect as we'll get until true AI is integrated into games.

Where to start... Well, since the community brings this up often, yes I did read the manual. I kept it open in a tab for hours to look up whatever I needed. It was often useless and vague or gave one-line descriptions that don't help.
The game suffers from its railroading. Not to say railroading is fundamentally bad, but this particular brand of it is awful. Try playing the allies and damaging the German units. You have you HQ nearby, you're in good supply, you try to bomb them? Zero damage. Your first infantry army? Hits for zero damage but takes two damage back. Oh you didn't notice that artillery guns literally do ZERO damage at tech level 1? Well thanks for wasting your limited funds buying one to try and help soften up the enemy. Your tank trades 1 damage for 1 damage.
Enemy turn. Germany perfectly cycles units in and out, hits your units for 2-4 damage every turn, even the Italian will do this as they are basically on-par with the Germans at the start of the game (Because historically Italian tanks were so good....), you are guaranteed to lose units permanently every time the enemy takes a turn because they always do a lot of damage and you often cannot even hit back, nevermind chipping away at them. It's an insanely effective cheese tactic that is baked into the AI and you basically cannot replicate it in the first half of the game.
Half the game feels weak due to freely spawning things via events. I want to stress I am not criticising the production queue, that's obvious and you can plan for it as it tells you what is coming. But its things like "Oh no I don't have to worry as Britain because it will just freely spawn me 4-5 units in Egypt for the African campaign, defeating the entire point of worrying about shipping units over there". On the other side of the coin, as Italy you can't try and rush Britain in Egypt because they'll just get a bloated pile of free spawns. The USSR gets this en-masse as well once they join the war. What is the point of having a side of the game that is all about purchasing more units if you just keep dishing out freebies? It's hard to keep track of, you don't know when to expect it, and when it happens against you all you can do is sigh and try and cope with something you couldn't know was there before.
A lot of the loss in immersion comes from just not being close to historical. The Germans conquered France with better tactics, but they were vastly outnumbered in real life. Why the hell does Germany attack the Benelux before invading Norway? Why the hell is the Norwegian campaign not here and instead Germany gets it all for free?! Wtf is this?
Paratroopers feel overpowered as hell. Their transports have the same full 10 health as a proper fighter or bomber, and they are as a result guaranteed to make a successful landing. They are simply far too powerful and can take almost no damage achieving their goals.
I'm 90% certain there's a bug with the AI being hyper-conservative with its navy, as Germany almost alway s keeps its navy in the baltic and you basically never see them even attempt to break out to raid you (except for all those submarines they get that are even pre-placed deep in the atlantic in one instance).
Is this game unwinnable? No, of course not. But you'll find it's only winnable by complete obliteration of your enemy, overrunning them when they're out of new troops and simply driving around getting free captures of their territory. There's never enough units to form frontlines by the mid-point for anybody.
The ranges for planes is very gimmicky. Strategic Bombers of World War 2 went extremely far, requiring heavier longer-range fighters to escort them. Instead it's normal fighters escorting them and the strategic bombers can barely cross the English Channel. They honestly should have +1 minimum range, and probably gain an additional +2 with each level of long range aircraft.
There's often blatant ironies about who can go where. The axis can freely traverse Gibraltar as long as they wait one turn, the game literally has a special way added in for them to go past it. But can the UK or France send a single submarine past any route through Denmark? Nope, not allowed. Sorry you just can't raid Axis supply lines from Sweden. Sucks, huh?
I strongly wish the game let me swap two units positions if both have the movement range to swap places. It's awkward having to force units to move into clearings in a busy frontline.
The experience system seems entirely pointless. You must take losses to get exp, then you lose every single bit of experience to replenishment, not even keeping a shred of it.
The decisions of the game basically break apart if you do not wish to control all nations. I tried a Britain only playthrough once, that is to say every other Allies nation is AI-controlled once I end my turn, and almost every decision was missing. France appears to dictate the majority of decisions that lead to British decisions and you don't even pressure them, so you get no Norway events, no Finland event, nothing.
Why are so many decisions not available even with full control? Like if I play the UK, why am I forced to lend-lease the Soviets? Why are the soviets guaranteed to mobilize with about 20 free units and declare war in mid-1941 when that wasn't Stalin's plan irl, even if the germans aren't ready to go to war? Why does Japan always get Indochina off-map if France is still alive during the event? And especially, how come there's no impact on the German economy related to oil shortage as the war goes on, especially if they get bogged down early?
A personal issue I had with this game was the UI Scaling. It forces me to use my desktop UI scaling. I have a 4K monitor and use 150% DPI Scaling. The game is still difficult to read and play without further scaling and really needs its own internal UI / Text scaling solutions.
I want to like this game. I think it sort of lacks any structures related to warfare (e.g. radar installations), and I think there is some really BS imbalance going on. The early game is both punitive and not fun, with many unit types suffering doing zero damage and others being vastly overpowered for what they should be. There's too many freebies dished out, and great excuses for a new front to fight in are just not allowed (i.e. Norway).
On a sale, ehh maybe. It could be so much better.

WWII was epic. This game reduces the conflict to the essentials. Not easy to win on either side. It is a big game with many twists. A huge challenge. Well worth the price. 8.5/10.

Cet opus est une remasterisation de l'excellent SC2 War in Europe "Classique" sur lequel j'ai passé des centaines d'heures, lui-même une suite du mémorable mais désormais quelque peu repoussant SC 1 European theater.
Après avoir fini les campagnes de l'Axe et des Alliés, l'heure est au bilan.
Vaut-il ses prédécesseurs ? A mes yeux, non.
Lorsque l'on joue l'Axe, le jeu perd vite de son intérêt face à la puissance des unités allemandes, qui balaient absolument tout sur leur passage, sans que l'IA ne puisse y faire grand-chose malgré une supériorité significative en ressources et en unités. Des corps allemands écrasent ainsi des armées de la garde soviétiques sans trop de problèmes, et votre minuscule garnison de Petsamo saura résister 6 mois d'affilée à l'assaut de deux corps soviétiques.
Ce problème est accentué par une IA complètement stupide qui ne concentre pas ses attaques, se laisse encercler bêtement, ou fonce tête baissée sans reconnaissance ni ravitaillement au milieu de vos troupes. Le ridicule atteint des sommets avec la marine adverse qui, par un simple hit and run, se fait complètement massacrer.
Enorme bémol également, les Anglo-saxons ne font plus rien lorsque vous avez conquis le Royaume-Uni, à part des patrouilles de destroyers. Résulat ? Dès 1942, le jeu se transforme en un face à face ennuyeux et couru d'avance avec l'Union Soviétique. Les Américains ont une armée énorme aux Etats-Unis mais vous n'en verrez pas la couleur de tout le reste de la partie. Aucune tentative de reprendre le R-U, de tenter quelque chose en Irlande, Norvège, Espagne ou Afrique du Nord. Rien. Les développeurs n'ont visiblement pas pensé que le R-U pouvait être conquis...
A l'inverse, lorsque vous jouez les Alliés. vous vous faites malmener jusqu'en 1941, du fait de la supériorité des stats des unités allemandes évoquée plus haut. Mais pas tellement non plus (les Allemands mettent ainsi parfois plus de deux mois à prendre la Pologne). Sans autre stratégie, l'Axe ne devient vite menaçante qu'en Union soviétique. Passé 41, on peut déjà dire que vous avez gagné le jeu (même en donnant des bonus à l'IA). Votre supériorité ne va faire que s'accentuer et il ne vous restera qu'à avancer petit à petit jusqu'au coeur de l'Europe, avec de temps en temps une contre-attaque de Lemmings. Fin 1943, vous aurez normalement pris Berlin.
Les stats de fin de jeu sont à l'image de celui-ci. En jouant l'Axe, vous aurez coulé 6 porte-avions, 10 cuirassés, une quarantaine de destroyers et de croiseurs, pour la perte de 2 ou 3 sous-marins. Vous aurez aussi détruit plus de 400 (!!!) corps, armées, armées de la garde ou corps blindés soviétiques, et une centaine de britanniques et américaines pour une dizaine d'unités terrestres perdues (italiennes + allemandes) de votre coté. Vous n'aurez perdu une ville qu'à une ou deux occasions, en Union soviétique principalement.
Coté Alliés, la démesure des pertes est un peu moindre (vous subissez jusqu'en 41) mais est tout de même délirante en fin de partie.
Cerise sur ce triste gâteau, les barres de moral des nations n'ont finalement pas vraiment d'incidence. Le Royaume-Uni est resté en guerre jusqu'en 1946 malgré la perte de toute l'Angleterre, de l'Ecosse et de toute l'Afrique du Nord dès 42 et un taux de pertes colossal...
En conclusion : passez votre chemin, vous économiserez du temps et de l'argent.

Great game, a nice addition to the SC saga, the best thing for sure is the multiplayer
World at War is better than War in Europe, but all of these games are effectively the same. One of the most fulfilling wargames of all time. Unfortunately plagued with cheating AI, but the developers let you disable every single cheat if you're willing to sort through the script list. I think $40 is kind of crazy for this game, but, realistically, if you play each side once you'll get your money's worth. Barely. Kinda the upper limit of what is tolerable, but you get it. I can BARELY hit the thumbs up. It's kinda buggy these days too which doesn't help. I want to say more positive things but, with this price and the technical state I just have to say that it's fun, but beware. You're being overcharged for an unsupported now-ancient retail release.

Spitzenklasse, kann man immer wieder spielen. Weltanschauliche "updates", die ohne Nachfrage viele Jahre nach der Veröffentlichung ins Spiel gepreßt werden, muß man sich halt wegdenken, dann geht es vermutlich noch ne zeitlang.

Im Vergleich zu Hearts of Iron ist alles viel zu einfach und dilettantisch, ganz Norwegen wird mit einem Ereignis okkupiert, Dänemark auch, die Einheiten haben zu wenig spezielle Eigenschaften, das Versorgungssystem ist intransparent, es gibt keine Ressourcen, keine Fabriken nur MPs

Großartiges Wargame auf der strategischen Ebene. Ganz besonders der asynchrone Multiplayer Modus ist fantastisch.
Absolute yes from me. While i agree that some mechanics are not 100% ideal, like stacking of unit cards, which does not exist, this game is essentially the one you want to play when you want to go for the close to reality experience of WW2, while HoI 4 is kinda the rewrite history edition. You can do this here as well, however it is a lot harder to stray from history in this game.
If you want to go even more in depth you may enjoy the Grigsby games or such more, for me however the strategic command series has just about the perfect depth and difficulty.

Il n'a peut être pas les ambitions et le chrome d'autres jeu de ce type sur ce thème mais il possède l'avantage de la simplicité de prise en main pour commencer des partie rapidement.
Cela ne signifie pas qu'il est simpliste, beaucoup d'élément historique sont pris en compte (la recherche, la diplomatie, la production, le qg de commandement, l'aspect naval et aérien, les événement politique et militaire majeur automatisé ( invasion de la norvège par les allemand, entrée en gurre du canade ou de l'italie contre les alliés...) ...) L'ensemble est très cohérent jusqu'au résultat des combats simple mais encore cohérent.
Le jeu est en fait très addictif car pas lourd a jouer comme d'autre. Mon temps de jeu sur plusieurs année le montre alors que des jeux plus sophistiqué m'ont épuisé après une campagne. Ici la possibilité d'essayé plusieurs campagne jouer différemment est envisageable (Le jouer historique ou par exemple envahir la pologne puis la russie dans la foulée par exemple...)
Donc SC est bien
Le mod TRP (total réalisme project) permet de réduire les quelques défauts comme l'Ia qui triche un peu par exemple et d'ajouter des contraintes plus historique comme par exemple la flotte italienne qui ne quitte pas la méditerranée ...

This is my preferred game in the Strategic Command series. The map size if very good and the game surprising well balanced. If I have issue with the game it is the ability for the Allied player to get the U.S. into the war a year and a half early which is completely implausible and really unbalances the game. Otherwise it is very good.

Play Hearts of Iron if you like planning wars. Play Strategic Command if you like fighting wars. This game is fun as f*ck.
Overall, a great WW2 hex-based turn-based game. I used to play strategy-level board games and this is an excellent computer version of some of my old favourites like Third Reich, etc.

Gutes Spiel zur Ablenkung. Spiele gerade D Day ab 1944 und habe die walze von beiden Seite aufgehalten bzw. verzögert.
As a solitaire experience, it's fun for a while. But the naval subroutines don't model the submarine war in the Atlantic at all well, and I would rather have no navies at all with this game. The naval sub-routine ruins the game for me every single time. I've tried to mods; I've done research. Because the trade route is static, the Allies can "go trauling for U-boats" with tremendous success. Spend 4 months trying to sneak out into the Atlantic and your U-boats will be crippled in 2, then you spend another 4 months trying to sneak back to port for repairs that you should not bother to make.
This is a solid strategy game, that remembers of 'Panzer General' developed by SSI in 1994, but with a more global approach. This means you have to deal with development, diplomacy, production and supply, too.
If you like this kind of game that is incidentally supported by kind developers - this is for you!
Zwar schon etwas älter aber dennoch ein klasse spiel. Ich habe so etwas schon lange gesucht, es erinnert mich an die gute alte zeit des Amiga. da gab es das Spiel, Historiline. Ich habe es Tage lang gespielt. Für Hobby Strategen genau das Richtige.

This is a great game system, hindered only by the absurdity and historical inaccuracy of its scenarios and campaigns. Naval units are individual vessels and submarines, rather than flotillas & squadrons that would better match the scale of the game. The order of battle for nearly every belligerent is truncated, ahistoric, and poorly researched. Scenarios should be designed at corps level and below, with very few army level units. I built a 1939 campaign based on a historic order of battle and pared down offensive statistics for nearly every unit. It played quite well - much more realistically than the canned offerings that came with the game. I just can't understand why a software company would build such an incredible game engine and then populate it with such terrible scenarios. I am recommending it for the game engine only.
I know its old, but this game is brain dead. AI Germany wardec'd Denmark without putting any troops on the border because it was busy fighting off France after not having enough troops on the border there. Not what I hoped for.

Mal abgesehen von all den historischen Fehlern, warum zum Teufel, hat man nur eine Chance Seelöwen abzuhalten, wenn man ganz genau das, das, das und das macht und dabei unhistorisch spielt?
Sobald die Achsenmächte einmal im UK gelandet sind, ist das verloren, was damals rein logistisch nicht hättte passieren können, da die Royal Navy den im UK stehenden Truppen die Versorgung über den Kanal unterm Arsch weg geraidet hätte.
Warum ist es nicht möglich, mit den Alliierten historisch zu spielen und das Spiel zu gewinnen. Gegen ne KI vielleicht aber nicht einmal gegen einen Spieler, der das Spiel zum erstem mal Spiel und davor nur ein LP geschaut hat?
Btw. machen Schiffe auch keinen Schaden bei Küstenbombadierungen. Weder Moral, noch Bereitschaft, Verschanzung oder Stärke.
Der WK 1 Teil ist gut darin, diesen Realistisch darzustellen aber der hier?
Vergiss es.
Projeziert ruhig weiter den Mythos der unbesiegbaren Wehrmacht. Schlagt nur bitte nie ein Geschichtsbuch auf und schaut nach, wer den Krieg gewonnen hat.
Stürzt bei Berechnung der Versorgung regelmäßig ab, nicht spielbar, Geld um sonst ausgegeben.

Qualified Yes:
In general I like the strategic command series, I have ACW, WWI, WatW and this game War in Europe.
The qualified part is that despite going to the lower levels, (Green) I find it too difficult to overcome the industrial might of the USSR.
This probably historical 'reality' but doesn't make for a competitive game. I guess it is my not getting something in the mechanics as there are plenty of other players who win as Germany.
The main beef I have is the idea of 'plunking' large units in towns for defense and despite being surrounded, they reinforce enough to stay alive for a considerable amount of time.
I've tried the 'standard' take France, then build up to take USSR starting in '41. On the side run a UBoat War. The allies predictably attack North Africa in late 42 and across the channel in '44. In the East, attaining historical progress as the Germans does not seem to happen and I find myself fighting attrition in late 42 through 43.
Strategic Command does reward aggressive play and the best game I've had was attacking France right after Poland in 2 turns (as soon as the army arrives). It's more of a slog, but you get Vichy in June/July and then you start Sea Lion.
Early Sea Lion seems to have caught the allies flat footed as the superior British navy seems overstacked against the Italians in the Med. Once you get the ground based air and the UBoats involved you can cross and make short work of the English.
This brought in the US in Sept 41 and the Russians attacked in Winter 42 just as the English take refuge in Canada. One downside in England is that there is no prize loot as they go to Canada.
Anyway more of an action report than a review. But getting frustrated again as Russians alone are still holding the line with the exception of Leningrad.
I do look forward to the Pacific game when it is released.

Simply the most basic, comprehensive World War II Strategic war game.
The movement, and logistics are integrated so well that after only a few turns the player is completely unaware of the underlying mechanics.
I consider one of the best strategic modern warfare games ever made.

This is a fun game. It's scale is much more detailed than the World at War version. And that puts a premium on tactics and smaller scale strategy. Again, my only complaint is with the AI. Fighting in Russia, no matter which side you are on, rapidly becomes hunting down isolated armies in cities. The defenders have nearly unlimited supply and reinforcements. So your army wanders from town to town blocked by isolated units that have to be crushed one by one like Medieval fortresses.

Fun game, deceptively complex.
Als Strategie-Fan muss ich wirklich sagen, dass ist eins der besten Spiele des Genre. Nachschubprobleme bestens dargestellt, ebenfalls Wetter und die allmähliche Übermacht der Alliierten. Gute Arbeit, an die Entwickler und viel spaß den Spielern, sehr zu empfehlen.

If you've played the StratCom family of games before you'll know what these are like, but if not they are a very moreish, beer-and-pretzels family of turn-based games perfect for people tired of more complex games like HOI.

If you're an old dude like me, who played the old board game, "War in Europe", this is basically that game in electronic format; the exception is, the map & unit format is corps level, not division level. I give it a thumbs up.
Really enjoy this game. Feels like you're required to make important strategic decisions to win; ie. Barbarossa across a wide front did not work for me, had to decide where to focus my attacks and shuffle forces to various schwerpunkts to win. I find the AI to be pretty decent: units will tactically withdraw when able and Allies launched a reasonably strong Overlord that was well protected by Allied navies at either ends of the channel and was supported by pretty strong airpower. I had to redeploy a handful of forces from fighting in the East to push the invasion back which took all summer. I like that you are limited on how many units you can build, helps prevent the 'division spam' that is a problem in another major WW2 strategy game out there and the number of units on the map feels right.
A great game for students of history. Hours of intense strategy. Sometimes like reality; 90% planing and boredom and 10% pure terror! Well worth getting in to.
Excellent game play and AI. One of my all time favorite games.

Ein sehr gelungenes Hexfeld-Strategiespiel. Die Vergleiche mit den Grand-Strategy-Titeln aus dem Hause Paradox sind zwar sehr weit hergeholt, aber für eine Darstellung des Zweiten Weltkrieges in Europa gibt es für ein Spiel dieser Art durchaus einigen Tiefgang und viele Entscheidungsmöglichkeiten.
(+) Spielbalance wirkt ausgewogen bis realistisch (keine Seite ist in bestimmter Hinsicht unrealistisch stark oder wirkt künstlich manipuliert, damit die historischen Ereignisse ihren Lauf nehmen können) -> hierbei großer Vorteil gegenüber Paradox-Spielen
(+) Nachschubsystem/ Verstärkung/ Oberkommandos und viele weitere Spielmechaniken sind nachvollziehbar und leicht erlernt
(+) Viele Einstellungsmöglichkeiten lassen ein individuell abgestimmtes Szenario entstehen
(+) brauchbare KI, die sich nicht so einfach austricksen lässt und keine groben Fehler macht (auch hierin gegenüber manchen Paradox-Spielen klar im Vorteil)
(-) Kriegführung wirkt nicht immer so dynamisch wie der Zweite Weltkrieg war (z.B. kommt es selten zu echten Kesselschlachten, weil es zumeist darum geht, die Einheiten durch Kampf zu zerschlagen)
(-) große Teile der Karte sind praktisch unzugänglich, was realistisch ist, aber die Bewegungsfreiheit einschränkt. Dadurch entstehen oft sehr ähnliche Frontabschnitte, was den Wiederspielwert (gegen die KI) begrenzt
(-) Diplomatie ist leider kaum relevant und nicht immer wirklich sinnvoll einsetzbar
Fazit: Als komplexere Schach-Variante gegen Freunde eine super Sache! Multiplayer und Hotseat-Modus funktionieren ausgezeichnet.
Auch gegen die KI sind viele Szenarien durchaus herausfordernd, wobei man aber eingestehen muss, dass die Seite der Alliierten doch deutlich leichter zu meistern ist ;)
Ich spiele dieses Spiel gerne immer mal wieder. Ist was für Hardcore Strategen, denen eine einfache 2D Grafik und altbackenes UI nichts ausmacht. Mit den richtigen Mods lassen sich die Einheitensymbole ansehnlich aufpeppen.

- Einfache Diplomatie und Forschung

- Veraltetes User Interface/Bedienung
- Scheint kein Multithreading zu unterstützen. So ein CPU Zug dauert dann schon mal etwas, wenn viele Einheiten zu bewegen sind.
