Stacking is a pretty good adventure, puzzle game and it's also created by Double Fine Productions the same people that have made the Psychonauts Trilogy and the remastered version of Full Throttle, but anyway let’s go into the story.
In a small home the Blackmore family of Chimney Sweeps are in despair, with so few jobs hiring and poor as can be the family is wondering how they're going to survive, but the father of the family has good news he was just given a new job and he vows to return with good pay and to support his family.
Unfortunately that was months ago and it seemed the father has disappeared and despite selling everything collection officers come and take the children forcing them to pay off their family’s debt, but not all of them are taken for Charlie the smallest and assumable weakest member of the Blackmore family is left alone with his mother, brushed off for being too small and feeble looking for work, but even though Charlie is small he promises his mother that he will find his brothers and sisters and return home. But can someone so small really stack up to such a difficult challenge well this young boy is determined to do just that.
Now then the likes, the gameplay is pretty good you basically play as this Russian doll called a matryoshka doll and in order to solve the various puzzles you must find different matryoshka dolls with different abilities, you have to use and you have to stack them up in order to use them, it's an interesting idea that has plenty of variety, also there is fun little side activities you can do if you're interested in collecting all the achievements. The puzzles are okay it can be quite challenging but doesn't feel impossible thanks to the fact that we have a hint system.
The story is pretty good it has a good message of helping others and just because you're small doesn't mean you're helpless and there is commentary on corporate greed and late stage capitalism, it's also a nice coming of age tale and its all wrapped up in this semi steampunkish, Toy Story world. The humor was okay, not laugh out loud, but I'm thinking you'll find something funny in it, it does rely on a little bit gross out humor though. The graphic art style is pretty good with its designs, colors and scenery it really does its best to make this world visually stand out that you just want to just stop and stare at it.
The levels are good, the creators really put a lot of thought on how this sort of steampunkish sort of Toy Story world would look like with plenty of everyday items like cans or matches or playing cards being used as furniture and stuff like that, it was pretty interesting to just wander around and see all the different set pieces.
The characters are good they pretty much a standard in this kind of story, like little kid taking on the big bad world, being thrust into adventure in a coming of age story and meeting all sorts of strange characters along the way. The music was good had a sort of a silent film kind of vibe to it that fit with this game very well.
Now then the dislikes, there was a slight problem with the story and that's the cutscenes could go a little too fast, I mean the cutscenes are modeled after the silent film era where people talk but there is this big text block after, problem with that is like I said it goes a little too fast I was able to get the general gist of the story, but I really wish there was a way to just make the story move with a click of a button.
Okay now that I told you all this, Stacking is a pretty good adventure, puzzle game and it's also created by Double Fine Productions the same people that have made the Psychonauts Trilogy and the remastered version of Full Throttle, it has pretty good gameplay, a pretty good story and good levels, so I recommend this game if you've enjoyed double fine Productions other games you may enjoy this one.
Quando si parla di videogiochi, è raro trovare giochi con premesse veramente originali, e la che sfruttano nel gameplay in maniera effettiva, senza perderla nel farsi; questo gioco invece mi ha stupito, nella creatività di commistionare temi e atmosfere della rivoluzione industriale mille-ottocentesca con la tradizione delle matrioske, condito con quel umorismo auto-referenziale e diretto alla Double Fine. Se avessi un figlio e volessi iniziarlo a videogiochi che lo allenino al problem-solving e all'esplorazione, questo farebbe dannatamente il caso.
Cielo, vorrei avercelo avuto come gioco dell'infanzia questo. Anche se tarda, visto che alcuni enigmi avrebbero sconfitto la mia mente della prima infanzia.
Stacking is one of those rare games that feels truly original — the idea of possessing Russian nesting dolls to solve puzzles with their unique abilities is charming and endlessly creative. Double Fine's signature humor shines throughout, from the silent film-style cutscenes to the absurd doll abilities like tossing cookies or seducing guards with a gloved slap. Each puzzle has multiple solutions, which kept me experimenting and laughing rather than feeling stuck, and the optional hint system is a nice touch that never feels punishing. The game is short — I wrapped up the main story and the included Lost Hobo King DLC in around 6-7 hours — and the puzzles rarely challenge you in a deep way, but that almost feels beside the point given how much personality is packed into every corner of the world. If you enjoy quirky, low-stakes adventure games with genuine heart, this is absolutely worth picking up on sale.

Delightful game. Solvin puzzles in multiple ways is really satisfying. Finding the secrets the game has is cool too. Not compelled to find each and every secret, but had a great time from start to end, including the DLC!

Stacking is not the type of game that I would usually recommend, but I think you should at least experience it.
Stacking follows Charlie Blackmoore whose family has been taken captive by the evil Baron who enslaves children for work labor. In order to find his family, he needs adventure through different worlds, in order to advance to where his family is being held captive. The storyline is told in silent movie type theater cutscenes, which is an interesting vibe, but it fits perfectly for the type of graphic design and game that this is.
The gameplay is where Stacking really makes a unique mark in gaming, though completely unique. Charlie is the smallest of characters in the worlds you will walk around in. Charlies is a Matryoshka doll, the ones that stack into each other from smallest to largest. As you walk around the world, you can jump inside a large doll, eventually allowing you to jump into 5 different sizes of dolls. Each doll type has a unique action that it can take. Some will fart, some will slap, some will scream, and much much more. That is where the puzzle portion comes in. What action do you need in order to pass the puzzles presented to you.
The game is actually really small if you think about it. Each world presents about 3-5 different puzzles to solve. If you solve them all at least once, you can finish the level and move on to the next world/level. Or, you can try to find all of the ways in which you can solve the puzzles. Some offer 3 different solutions, while some have 6 varying ways to solve a single puzzle. The game is difficult to find all of the ways, but the game is rather simple in finding at least one way to solve the puzzles since typically the dolls needed to solve the puzzles hang out literally adjacent to where the puzzle is. So it's really up to the player on how long you want to stay around in the game.
The graphics aren't great, but they work for the gameplay mechanics and the stacking doll world that it presents. The music is classical and again fits perfectly in the late 1800s early 1900s Baron era and child labor era and it especially works well in the cut-scenes.
I found myself not playing through this game the first time I tried it finding it slightly boring and too difficult to find all of the solutions, but after coming back to it and beating the game, figuring out the rest of the solutions was a challenge I was better prepared for.
This is not a high recommendation, but definitely I think most puzzle/adventure fans should give this a shot as it offers a unique experience that you most likely won't forget. Plus, it's Double Fine, they make great games and this one is definitely wearing their artful touch for sure.

Wanted, but never got around, to playing this game when it first released for the XBOX 360 long ago. Finally got to it and loved it.
Nobody's ever going to confuse it for a full retail platformer but it was never priced as one. It's a small game with a few levels and a clever gimmick that it uses very well.

Pleasantly surprised with how well this game held up and how much I enjoyed it.
It's a very simple puzzle game that feels almost collectathon-y, you solve puzzles by stacking into larger nesting dolls with unique abilities.
There are multiple solutions to each puzzle and the game encourages you to complete them all, find all the unique dolls, and complete all the secret challenges in each level.
It's a bit janky and dated partly due to being locked to a choppy 30 FPS, but increasing the FOV and using Lossless Scaling to double the frames mostly solved everything and it played well enough after that.

No missables and you can freely travel between levels after completing them, fun game to 100%.
Wonderful fun game experience. Thoroughly enjoyable. Nice to have such fun puzzle challenges in a non combat setting where nobody is out to kill you, ever. The art is quite special emulating the silent movie era. The violin music is quite sweet also. I certainly appreciate the hint system being built in, without which it would be impossible to solve most things. Nice to see all the different types of dolls who are really people in their own right, and discover their special skill which each doll has. No one is mean except of course the Baron around whom the plot is centered. A lot of laughs from time to time too. Highly recommended. Worst thing is it's a bit too short.

Me ha sorprendido muy gratamento, con una dinámica muy entretenida y original (nunca dio para tanto un juego de Matrioshkas), una estética siglo XVII de revolución industrial que le sienta como un guante, y una banda sonora que casa a la perfección con esa estética. La puesta en escena tipo película muda, casa muy bien con todo el mundo creado por Double Fine y te hace seguir anidando y anidando hasta el infinito. ¡Ahora ya no entiendo la vida de otra manera jajaja!
Aunque pueda parecer un juego infantil (y ciertamente puede ser jugado por niños por su apuesta de lo más sencilla), tiene bastante más miga de la inicialmente planteada y sacarte todos los desafíos, travesuras, etc. tendrá su aquel y te aportará muchas horas de diversión y romperte algo más la cabeza.
Los diálogos son ingeniosos, gracias a la buena traducción, con bromas y algunos chistes/guiños curiosos. Alguna cinemática se puede hacer algo tediosa por su longitud al ser en modo cine mudo, pero para mí, eso sólo habla bien de la coherencia de su ambientación.
Incluye un DLC gratuito y también traducido que te da algo más de extensión en caso de que te hayas quedado con más ganas de anidar muñecos. He leído algunas críticas sobre su simpleza, pero no estoy nada de acuerdo. Obviamente si buscas una aventura hardcore de puzzles, ésta no lo es, pero me parece una propuesta tan original y novedosa que, para mí, es más que suficiente. Y, si además, intentas lograr todo lo adicional que tiene, sí que tiene ese punto extra que te hayrá pasar un muy buen rato y alarga el juego para bien. ¡Hasta tiene una cinemática de acción tipo bad-ass, qué más se puede pedir jeje!
En definitiva, un muy buen juego, hecho con un gran cariño, que aporta una nueva y muy interesante mecánica. ¡Muy recomendable!

整個遊戲圍繞在「套娃」這一機制進行，透過由小至大，層層堆疊的套娃來解謎，每種套娃都有專門的技能
謎題能透過不同的套娃實現多種解法，若能完成遊戲所提供的所有解法還會另有獎勵
遊戲中的彩蛋也不少
剛開始玩的時候有因為3D風格+無中文而稍微被勸退
但休息一陣子後再玩，相對適應後突然覺得那些都不算什麼了

Cute little game full of charm and personality typical of Double FIne. It's basicaly a puzzle game where you need to solve problems by using the correct matrioska doll. I liked it, but didn't love it to finish it.
This game is a treat for point-and-click adventure game fans and newcomers alike, presentation is top-notch, the aesthetics are still captivating, the plot works, music fits the setting, and the jokes land quite well. And if you've played point-and-click adventure games from the 80/90's, you'll definitely notice the evolution in game mechanics, inventory management is gone in favor of seeking out key persons with the right abilities needed to get past the puzzles. The included hint system means you'll never actually need to consult and game guide unless you're looking to 100% everything.
Anyone who enjoys the 'eureka' moment of solving puzzles in point-and-click adventure games will experience them here, and with multiple solutions to each plot gated puzzle, you're never going to be stumped.

Such a cool game. Its funny and i like this silent movie filter they use. The story is nice and the whole game concept is very unique and very cool. The different actions of the characters are really well made and the whole game was really fun and i hope there will be a sequell. I can really highly recommend it

A delightful surprise. I did not expect the game to be so entertaining.
However, it is a Double Fine Productions after all.
To anyone who may come across this review before buying, I couldn't recommend a game enough if you enjoy humour and puzzles.
To summarise, you play as the smallest doll of a Russian doll family and travel through this Victorian era world full of other different Russian dolls to find your family and defeat the 'Baron' who has kidnapped them all.
There are three main levels and a 'lobby' area of sorts for you to mess around in, and in these levels they have Unique dolls to find with different abilities and certain challenges you have to figure out what to do yourself in order to get a prize of sorts.
Every level is full of different ways to figure out puzzles, unique dolls and challenges, plus a DLC that is also rammed with things to do.
I absolutely highly recommend this game, it has aged like fine wine and I sill come back and start a new save occasionally-
it's just that good.
A small game focused on its premise and delivering upon it, with a story feels like a play for younger audiences (in a literal sense). Game’s concise, shows you what you can expect from it in the first 1o minutes and you will get from it exactly what it promises. It’s only problem is that it’s locked to 30 fps.
Stacking is one part point-and-click adventure, two parts walking simulator, and three parts collect-a-thon. You don’t need twitch gaming skills to succeed, but you do need plenty of patience to explore the world, talk to the characters, and watch the cutscenes to understand your goal. If all that sounds right up your alley, then this game is worth a shot.
What hooked me towards wishlisting this game is the description of using different characters’ special abilities to solve puzzles. It reminds me of the Kirby series, where some abilities are common and can be used for multiple interactions, while others are rare and situationally useful. Additionally, most challenges are designed with multiple solutions, which encourages you to experiment. Ultimately, the game allows you to go at your own pace: once you finish the plot-related events and return to the hub area, you can freely return to those areas and they remain in a “post-game” state, so you don’t have to redo the cutscenes or mandatory obstacles, and you can get right to exploring.
The game does have some flaws that could frustrate even the most patient players:
- I encountered a black-screen bug and a game crash bug on separate occasions, but at least the game has generous auto-saves.
- At least once, an alternative solution to a puzzle was credited as one that I already did, though the game corrected itself later.
- If insanity is trying the same thing again and expecting different results, then the game can drive you nuts when you swear you found an interaction that should have worked and yet the game refuses to allow it.
- Whenever you leave an area with incomplete checklists, the game pops up a screen saying so and challenges your dedication, which flies in the face of what I said above about being allowed to play at your own pace.

It crashed on me multiple times on my old pc and the game itself is pretty old so no idea if it would run for most people but i found the puzzle gameplay to be very interesting.
Its got a few collection based achievements for which I'd recommend using a guide.
I started playing this game originally on the Xbox 360 during my childhood, I only ever had the free trial version. I have played through the game now and it is so much fun, full of strategies and puzzles as well as a great story. besides the story there are so many other little challenges that you can do if you are a perfectionist like me!
I want to keep a tiny little Charlie in my pocket at all times so he can help me with all my problems.

THIS GAME WAS AHEAD OF ITS TIME IN MY OPINION! It's so funny, adorable, and just very strange. I love Stacking, bought it day one when it came out a long time ago on the Playstation. It still holds up to the fun and it was wonderful revisiting this little gem. There needs to be more games like this. You know, fun games with aesthetic? Made by people who actually care about their product? Yea.
Collecting all the little dolls, doing the little side missions for them to unlock puzzles, it's a very charming game. I found myself finishing all the achievements in this version vs the console version.

Double Fine is one of my favorite video game developers. Their games are so full of creativity. You should just go play every game made by them and call it a day.

It took me 12 years, but I finally beat Stacking, a game that captured my interest when first announced -- long before real life interfered.
I'm happy to say that this whimsical puzzle game mostly lived up to my expectations.
Sure, it maybe went on for a few challenges too long, but the levels and extras were worth exploring. Sure, some dolls looked a tad too similar, but the overall presentation was superb.

Great little game, clever mechanics and cute presentation. Feels a little too much like a kids game to keep me hooked though, but it's not exactly childish either. Not for me but would recommend for others to try especially on sale or with kids.

Nuestra historia da comienzo cuando nuestro padre consigue un trabajo como jefe de deshollinadores para “el Barón” y, tras desaparecer, este último decide reclutar a todos nuestros hermanos para saldar las deudas que no ha pagado nuestro padre. Nuestra misión consistirá en viajar en busca de nuestros hermanos y rescatarlos de la tiranía del Barón mientras descubrimos que ha pasado con nuestro padre.
Puestas estas bases el título se sustenta sobre una base gráfica tridimensional de entrono libre donde los personajes son representados como muñecos rusos o “Matrioshkas” de diferentes tamaños con diseños y habilidades únicos que serán el motor principal de la jugabilidad del título. A esto cabe sumarle unos escenarios amplios ricamente detallados que buscan recrear algunos de los lugares más emblemáticos de la revolución industrial, ya sea una huelga en una estación de tren hasta un idílico viaje transcontinental en Zepelín. Por la parte sonora cabe destacar un amplio y surtido elenco de melodías clásicas inspiradas en la época que nos sumergen perfectamente en la acción y que, sumado a su característica forma de narración, basada en el cine mudo, toman gran protagonismo y sirven como hilo conductor de la aventura.
En el apartado jugable es donde encontramos el mayor atractivo del juego, pues la como anteriormente mencione, el hecho de centrar el título en personajes que sean “Matrioshkas” hace que este se desarrolle con una divertida y curiosa mecánica que nos proporciona la habilidad de introducirnos en orden de tamaño en los diferentes personajes de los escenarios para conseguir sus habilidades y poder avanzar en la trama sorteando desafíos y puzles. Todo esto con unas directrices sencillas y controles fáciles que nos darán total manejo sobre nuestro personaje justificando tanto el uso de teclado y ratón como de mando. A esto cabe sumarle una interfaz dinámica e intuitiva con las opciones justas y necesarias para el correcto funcionamiento del juego.
Con lo anteriormente expuesto solo cabe decir que nos encontramos ante un divertido y original título que sabe innovar creando una propuesta única en su género. El título fascina tanto por su apartado jugable como por su maravillosa estética y gran banda sonora, aúnando todos estos conceptos para ofrecer un juego más que correcto. Además, este cuenta con un DLC extra de forma totalmente gratuita que nos proporcionara alguna que otra hora de juego más. Muy recomendable.

"Stacking is a classic style-over-substance ""puzzle"" sandbox game. Prepare to watch long, stylish cutscenes, then play for two minutes, then watch more long cutscenes. Puzzles are really just tasks that are spelled out so directly one wonders why they couldn't also be cutscenes. The writing is tediously average, with the visuals and music doing most of the heavy lifting. The only really charming thing about this game is a handful of animations; otherwise it feels like a silly, sandbox-y tech demo."
A fun game with a cool and polished stacking ability! That's right, this game does a good job on its central premise!
More seriously though, this is a nice adventure game with a well thought out mechanic that's both unique and fun.
This game does have some "Gross-Out" humor, but it's not *too* bad.

Ich kann das Spiel jeden empfehlen, sowohl für ältere als auch relative junge Spieler.
Das Spiel hat einen einzigartigen Charm. Man muss Puzzle/Rätsel lösen, indem man Matroschkas nutzt, die unterschiedliche Fähigkeiten haben. Man kann mit anderen Figuren reden und das Spiel generell hat einen schönen Humor. Wenn man bei einem Rätsel nicht voran kommt, gibt es Tipps, die einem helfen. Die Figuren selber deuten auch Lösungen in Gesprächen an.
Nur bei den Kapriolen gibt es nur maximal einen Namen, der auf eine Lösung hindeutet. Ansonsten muss man es selber herausfinden.
Ich hatte auf jeden Fall meinen Spaß und das Spiel ist definitiv seinen Preis wert.
No matter what comes from the realm of Double Fine, I always applaud them for trying to be different come every title. Stacking is one of the most unique games you could ever try and play.
The setup is astonishingly simple. Work as a stacking doll going around the map level you are put into and utilise the various characters and environments to help solve various puzzles.
What more I like about this is how its executed. You have a great level of guesswork and from what I recall some big head-scratchers on how to get that X stacking doll in the right place to nab them. Its a touch frustrating, but never anything that I would call too hard or difficult.
Honestly what shines the most here is the world itself. I never thought to see something like a stacking dolls environment, but I love hot genuinely clever the world, machines and even the fun way everything comes together. And let it be said the design work for the dolls are always so creatively unique and so detailed. Every sound and visual makes that one doll as striking as it does and feed back to the play well enough on what that one doll's role is.
Overall I would strongly recommend this game and praise it for its visuals, music, charm and genuine everything that makes a Double Fine game so marvelous to behold. Absolutely a wonderful treasure to include in your library. Stack on, friends!

Les quelques heures de gameplay nécessaires pour terminer Stacking sont un réel plaisir. Le parti pris créatif est intéressant et typique, ce qui fait de ce jeu une expérience singulière.
La mécanique de résolution des énigmes est vraiment unique, ce qui donne envie de se creuser la tête pour trouver tous les scénarios.
Petit bémol cependant, certaines mécaniques sont un peu tirées par les cheveux. Ceci étant dit, ce jeu reste une chouette aventure qui fera chauffer votre cerveau !

Lindo juego donde destacan principalmente la mecánica principal y su estética, ambos puntos donde Double Fine es más fuerte. Se nota igual que el juego en su historia solamente sería bastante corto con lo cual hay agregados como más de una forma de resolver las objetivos de cada sección o los hijinks, que agregan tiempo de juego pero tal vez narrativamente no tengan demasiado sentido.

Fun little puzzle game, i found it worth the time
It's a game for children, but done in a very charming way with rather unique game mechanics. Quite short, and with fairly easy puzzles - an enjoyable romp.

One of those games that people who played it [b]will[/b] remember it years later. Wins on originality alone but there's so much more to it. The main mechanic is the matryoshka dolls (матрёшка) or stacking dolls for those western ignoramus(es? ignorami? take your pick) that can't remember a single "foreign" word. Hence the name.. You start off as a wee doll and stack on others (or un-stack accordingly) in order to proceed, solve puzzles, cause chaotic situations and so forth. Most of the other dolls have an "action" that is unique to the doll, i.e. "sip tea", "smoke", "scream help" etc.. that when used at the proper place, causes a reaction, and that is how you go on about your quests.
The graphics are apealling, runs well, controlling the dolls works flawlessly, the music is charming befitting the timeline of the game and it brings out happy thoughts when you play it. It's also very silly at times..

Stacking is one of Double Fine's hidden gems. I grew up playing this game so there's a bit of nostalgia chucked in there, but you cannot fault the concept. I've never played another game with a similar premise and the silent movie element of the game makes it perfect thematically. I would love to see more people know about this game because it's just so unique and deserving of it's place amongst Double Fine's ranks. Be open and go along for the ride and there's fun to be had.
What fun quirky little game. You are a small child in the turn of the century. And everyone is a stacking Matroyshka Russian doll. Your job is to do little tasks with the ultimate goal of finding your family. And you do that by "inserting yourself" into other, successively bigger people to disguise yourself. And it's funny and cute and a good puzzle solving time.
