(short version)
Was fun (kind of) until it wasn't. A roguelike like fatal labyrinth with some cute graphics. The game stayed (mostly) balanced until the floating islands where it got out of hand quickly. After restarting 3 times (out of 5) where I just got swarmed in 2 rounds I could easily see the mobile gameness of this game. Originally it sold for $10 on mobile at $15 it's too expensive and greedy.

I've played this game before, my first experience with a game like this was fatal labyrinth on the Sega. I love these types of games, and I was enjoying Spoggiwood until I ran into the stupid fish. I looked up on the method to kill them and even that didn't work. (they sometimes revive each other even if in AOE.) When I hit the floating islands and was surrounded by 4-5 enemies who all wrecked me in turn two, I then understood the mobile gameness of this game.

The good: You can build your own town, it's a solid rogue-like fatal labyrinth-like with interesting classes and skills.

The bad: If you play level 1 with all the classes you've really played all the levels, yeah the mechanics change for some enemies however the gameplay remains the same, stay 1 or more tiles away from the enemy, kill the enemy. Or if you're a vamp or warrior overwhelm with AOE. 10,000% not worth $15, in this economy it should be $5.

have my gripes with this one, mostly about it feeling to mobile-y, not just about how bad the ui feels playing on a computer but the way the whole thing is structured feels like it was only ever thought to be something youd pop in on your phone to play

but obviously the people at freehold couldnt possibly mess up a roguelike, h.avent really played a bunch so i dont have all characters and stuff unlocked but everything here feels so fun
the way every character has wildly different playstyles, learning what are the consequences for killing specific enemies and specific tiles do to your exploration, how to efficiently use the items you get etc etc

people seem to dismiss this for being deemed "too simple" (which i get, considering this comes from yknow, qud devs) but i dont think thats the case at all, the game has as much depth as it needs to have

I found this game to be rather underwhelming, and it was unable to hold my attention for long. I tried playing it several times, but I just got so bored, so quickly, I didn't want to continue.

The outline of a solid game is here. The fundamental outline is present. It just doesn't have anything else of substance, there is not a lot going on inside. It is an extremely basic rogue-like game, almost to the point where I would say it is perfect for people new to this genre of games. But when I compare it to other games just like it, it doesn't hold a torch to them.

There are so few items, classes, and abilities. Different enemy types are also pretty scarce as well. Each level basically feels the same, so it doesn't help that the game is relying on you replaying each one, over and over again with a different class each time, to try and milk some more time out of this game.

Perhaps if the story line was a little bit more interesting, if there was something more driving the player, some greater meta progression, then perhaps it would be worth it to keep playing these same levels over and over again, but there is nothing there. I had high hopes for this game when I first saw it, despite the age of the game. Sometimes older rogue-likes like this can be a hidden gem, but that is not the case here.

Over a decade old, with the most bare bones game-play, pathetic visuals, a non-existent story, and they are still asking for $20 CAD. Not worth it, at all. Avoid this, even on sale.

A cute roguelike with cute graphics and music. The kind of game that's easy to step into and start adventuring. No complicated combos or technics, you just need to think about your moves on the top-view dungeons. Weird story, weirder enemies. Perfect game to chill for a few days.

I am 32 years old.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.

When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.

Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.

With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.

After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.

Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.

Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.

Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

All you really need to know is this: I got the game for less than $2 and I've refunded it.

Despite looking like it's not a half bad little game this one is absolute trash. Boring, juvenile writing and nothing interesting here at all beyond some half decent graphics for the style they chose. This is just a dull and repetitive game that's a port of a "tablet/phone" game and it requires little thought and no strategy whatsoever. Nothing at all here that's worth my time, or yours. This one is a 2 out of 10 and that's just because the graphics aren't all that bad for what it is.

It just makes me want to play crypt of the necro dancer. I didn't dig the UI design, and just generally the whole aesthetic. It seemed well enough put together, and the music was fine. I didn't vibe with the main characters or setting or anything so I think its' just not for me. I only played about 10 minutes and nothing at all grabbed me or seemed interesting.

If you like crypt of the necro dancer but wanted a cute farmish block style thing go for it. otherwise pass. You should probably wait for a sale if you want it though.

I liked that it was engaging enough to finish. I played it because of its connection to Caves of Qud. I disliked some of the RNG, because every dungeon you went to was different every time you returned to it. I know this was because they were experimenting with randomly generated maps, but my brain had to figure out an explanation for it storywise, like the different characters were exploring different areas of the same greater region. It still bothered me. I also don't like the thief or vampire, but the wizard is worth the work to get through the other nonsense to get them magic missiles. I hope more people enjoy playing this game.

i found this game very annoying to play and the ui very annoying. was apparently a mobile game first. i didnt enjoy it and uninstalled pretty quickly because the rules seemed super inconsistent (sometimes i move once, and the enemies hit me and move on the same turn. loads of situations where enemies will just surround you and theres nothing you can do) and there was a bunch of meta progression stuff that i didnt care about and like 40 text boxes in a row in between the first level and the second.

just a confusing little experience that i couldnt get into.

I think it's a pretty fun game! On my first go at it, the mechanics were interesting, but it felt really tough to make progress. Enemies did a lot of damage mid game and there just wasn't enough healing or abilities to maneuveur properly.
I decided to come back and give it another shot. I upgraded level-up speed and starting taking a health potion in, things started to click! I could manage all of the enemies while feeling like a powerful hero.

Still though, I beat the game with archer and thought the game was just fine. But I decided to up the difficulty to savage to get some of the achievements. As I was trying out some of the other characters (starting with the thief), they just seemed so underpowered. I couldn't clear all the enemies to progress. I said ♥♥♥♥ it, I'm gonna spam invisibility and sneak past everything, while taking out a few enemies for level ups. AND IT WORKED! Suddenly a tedious run through the dungeon became MUCH more strategic as I had to work around the class restraints. I had so much more fun on this second "playthrough" and it made every class feel unique. Now was it necessary to make an achievement "run through EVERY level with ALL 6 characters"? God no, it really dragged at the end

But all in all I did really enjoy going through this little gem of a game!

I tried to give this game a chance twice and it just didn't work out. It's a very basic rogue-like, competent but just nothing to stand out. The only positive is that it's approachable so might be of interest to newcomers to the genre, but anyone with any experience will find it lacking.

There's a few classes to choose from, equipment to find, and some consumables to find too. Each stage feels pretty samey and not very exciting to explore. As you progress through stages you can unlock more equipment and classes.

There's a storyline there somewhere, but it's as generic as it gets so doesn't help the game at all. Visually it's ok, music is pleasant enough. There's better options out there.

I am a 45 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So I decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game, picked my character and world and started playing but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.

[u]Quick Review:[/u] Sproggiwood is a Turn-Based Grid-Movement roguelike with a world based on Finnish folklore. The artstyle is cute, the music is catchy, the mood is light-hearted, but the gameplay can be difficult. It’s overall a fun combination of ideas, and feels like one of those little gems hidden away in the Steam Store. Except for the “colony builder” that lacks any gameplay value, it’s a worthwhile time crawling through mushroom dungeons.

[u]Gameplay:[/u] Sproggiwood is a turn-based roguelike with some meta progression. There are 10 dungeons to beat, 6 characters to play, and 3 difficulties. Like many roguelikes, the amount of gameplay you get out of this title will depend on how much you want to master it. If you just want to beat it once through, you could do that using only one character. If you want to 100% the game, that’s 6 characters to beat each level with on Hard mode. So your mileage may vary.

You play as blockheads, who are cute little creatures that perpetually smile and destroy the creatures in the dungeon. Each character has a weapon slot, armor slot, and 4 abilities they can learn/level-up during a dungeon run. Each dungeon has about 4-5 levels with a boss. The game is turn-based on a grid, so enemies move and attack only when you move or attack. I really enjoyed this mechanic because it balanced well between thinking your moves out, while also having a snappy action feel. [i]Tip: You’re character can move tile-to-tile while holding down that move direction if running is turned on in the options.[/i]

And you will need to plan your moves out, at least a little bit. The enemy variety is fairly strong, but the game doesn’t tell you what each enemy does. You have to figure that out yourself with trial and error. It makes every new encounter intriguing and dangerous. Some enemies have straight-forward attacks, or even telegraph their moves. Other enemies are a little harder to predict or understand. Some of them you will learn to loathe. Some enemies die and are gone, and some have a death effect that can harm you if you’re still in the way. This leads to some unique strategizing, as you’ll learn optimal places to kill certain enemies to minimize damage taken. I never played a game where the location of killing an enemy was strategically important. (Enemies get harder in Hard mode).

Each blockhead you play as also have very different play styles. Some have ranged attacks, and some are purely melee. But each have unique abilities, and will force you to approach each enemy differently. For such a small looking game, there’s a surprising amount of strategy to consider.

There are also a variety of weapons and armors to find and purchase after each dungeon. However, these are basically the same for each class of character you play. Also, once I figured out the optimal loadout, I ended up just using that one for all my characters and playthroughs. The loadout I used was: [spoiler] Weapons of biting frost, Armors of Master Pottery, and the double sip trinket with potions for two uses of extra health. The Biting frost weapons do a 3x3 aoe, which is helpful in clearing out those flying goldfish, and it freezes enemies, giving you an extra turn to destroy a group before they respawn. [/spoiler]

The one lacking part of this game is the colony builder. It looks like it was a feature of the game that got scrapped but was left in anyway. I’m assuming it was meant to support the kinds of abilities and weapons you unlock, but in it’s current state it is purely aesthetic. There is no gameplay associated with it whatsoever. It looks like an incomplete feature.

Overall, the gameplay is a lot of fun and can be challenging. Each character has a different playstyle which adds to replayability. But if you use the loadout I found out about on the forums, the variety becomes much smaller. Fun gameplay.

[u]User Interface:[/u] Sproggiwood is a mobile port, and it shows. The user interface is clunky with a mouse and keyboard. But honestly, once you’re actually p[laying the game, it’s not that bad. There is some keyboard mapping available. I mapped WASD to move, E to wait, TAB to level up, and SPACEBAR to select. That’s about all you really need. You could play entirely with the mouse by clicking the mobile UI, but I wouldn’t recommend that.

The most annoying thing about the mobile port is that hovering your mouse over things does not prompt you with information. If you want to read the description of something, you must first click the magnifying glass icon, and then click on whatever you want to learn about. It’s annoying, but once you learn how to play the game, you can just ignore this.

Overall, the UI is clunky, but doesn’t get in the way too much,

[u]Atmosphere:[/u] Just look at the trailer, and you’ll get a pretty good idea about how this game feels to play in. It’s a cute looking game. The “story” is short and not very serious, and full of humor and shenanigans. The premise is that you’ve been summoned from another dimension to stop the mushrooms from harnessing a deadly magic or something. It’s not too important, because it’s really about your little blockhead dudes dungeon crawling and killing all of these annoying little creatures.

There are a lot of strange creatures in this game. I am not familiar with Finnish folklore, but I imagine most of the enemies are directly inspired by it (though I don’t know if the flying goldfish are…?)

I also don’t know how accurate the art reflects the source material, but it all looks cute and charming. The colors are nice and easy to read. The dungeons are in different biomes, and the maps reflect that well.

The music is the other noticeable element. The main theme song at the world map is super catchy. The dungeon songs are fine. I don’t think they hold up on their own, but they support the game well.

Overall, the atmosphere is really pleasant and fun to dungeon crawl in.

[u]Conclusion:[/u] Sproggiwood is a game I would consider a little hidden gem. It’s a cute game to look at that can pack a challenge on harder difficulties. The different characters and procedural levels give it a nice amount of replayability, and the world is light and happy. Outside of the clunky UI, I’d say this is a fun recommend.

This is a really weird game. Trippy enough in the right kind of ways and as endearing in its simplicity as it is frustrating in its randomness. Sproggiwood is a weird take on turn-based movement on a map dressed in fog of war while you are delving deeper and deeper into dungeons as well as your own insanity.. The gameplay loop is as follows. You take a step, meanwhile everything else that's visible in the dungeon takes a step. When you are next to something you can step against it to strike, if it survives it fights back, otherwise it's all well and good.

To help you on your mighty quest you have a few more or less powerful abilities based on your class, and there are quite a few of those ranging from farmer to sorcerer supreme. You also gather rudimentary gear that enhances your attacks one way or another and these range from elemental powers to teleporting necropants. The levels are quite varied and take you on a tour through the slightly insane world of Sproggiwood where a rapscallion trickster entity is enticing you to go on a romp and slay a bunch of mushrooms, goats and giant seals.

All in all this makes for a rudimentary romp through a puzzly undergrowth with a really psychedelic twist to it. I kind of like it even though the grind gets real after a while and the gathering of better and better equipment is quite random. If you fancy a chill, relaxed and trippy game you got plenty of mileage from Sproggiwood, just don't expect it to be the definite take on hacky-slashy dungeon crawling.

I would honestly doubt about anyone´s taste in videogames if they recommended this game to you. It´s a game with good intentions and bad execution. Hard more (or extreme mode) is almost impossible to beat, as the game just throws as many enemies as possible on your face and adds no fun to the game.

The Village-bulding side of the game really tries to be fun, however it falls flat on its face real quick, as the only thing you can do is rearrange buildings.

There are better games out there. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.

I would certainly recommend it for that. The price is way too steep for me to tell anyone to pick it up however.

A real underrated roguelite that is surprisingly fun on savage difficulty. It's strikingly similar to Rogue, with modern mechanics that make it much more approachable. Enemies are generally simple, but if you're not careful, you can easily overwhelm yourself. For example, Slimes first appear easy, but introduce their own puddle mechanics that make combat much more difficult; the black slimes being the worst/hardest, with the puddles spawning an adult slime in six turns, which can summon 1-3 small slimes, which make more puddles.

The story isn't great, and the "city-building" is purely optional, but the items you can buy that persist run after run are very strong, particularly the Master Potter set being near required. The weapons and armor are poorly balanced, with a few items just being better than the rest.

Classes are also poorly balanced, with Archer/Wizard being far and beyond the easiest, because of their ranged abilities. Melee classes (particularly Rogue and Vampire) are generally weaker, forcing you to take damage most of the time.

Bosses, at the end of every level, are sadly poorly designed and low in number— there's ten total levels, with three of those bosses being copy-pasted. The low level count isn't terrible, however, because if you're trying to complete each level fully, then you've got to beat it on all six classes. There's a bit of variety in just the roguelite nature of the game, but there's a few different level sets that keeps it a bit interesting each few levels.

Over all, this game isn't greatly designed, but I found it fun nonetheless, just because there's a nice level of power and decision-making that can make unfair encounters fair/escapable.

The story is bland, it's mildly funny, your civilization actually doesn't matter AT ALL, the classes are fairly similar and the last one you unlock is clearly better than the rest. Dungeon dives are incredibly similar, it is a farce to say no two are alike, they are in fact very alike.

Honestly a fun little game. Definitely get it on sale because the content is lacking, and is by no means worth $16. I'm 5 hours in and it should only take me another few to 100% the achievements. I've beaten the game on medium difficulty and am going back on hard. It's fairly simple but still enjoyable.

I don't generally like rouge games, but this one's more of a puzzle game than RPG. Each class has a radically different play style, and it's a bit like chess with a lot of thought given to how you can move around to land each attack without taking damage to yourself. Instead of gaining levels you earn gold that you spend on items and other upgrades between dungeons, Not the longest game but each dungeon brings fresh challenges that reshuffle which classes are best.

Entirely turn-based. Controls are gamepad (xb360) or mouse or keyboard. Seems to have been designed for mobile but the game-pad controls are still pretty good with each option mapped to a different button. The mouse interface makes no sense, as it's a poor imitation of a touch screen.

Buy it on sale.

The weapons and armors are 90% the same across all classes. Each class seems to have one or two unique items, though they often are less powerful than the common ones.

The classes are varied enough but not so much that you want to play through every level with every class. I started out doing full clears with all classes but by the end I just ran it with the class I found easiest to play. Just wanted to beat the boss and be done with it.

I found this gem of a game by mistake, and it well worth the 8 hours I put in. You have five classes (peasant, warrior, archer, vampire, wizard) and three possible difficulty levels with the hardest changing enemy behaviour. The story isn't bad, but the game play is a lot of fun. It is a turn based game on a grid where you have access to four possible skills, one usable item, and you can equip a weapon, armour, and trinket. Lots of fun!

Beneath its childlike appearance lies an appreciably complex, respectably difficult dungeon crawler.
The classes are simple and unbalanced, but nevertheless lend themselves to unique styles of play. Even if for Thief, that style may include "drink an Identity Crisis potion because you couldn't possibly get a worse skillset".
I'm almost disappointed that it wasn't longer, but there's something to be said for not overstaying your welcome.

Enjoyed this little roguelike more than I expected to. It's pretty simple, which is its strength, with the gameplay being very intuitive but also having enough depth. The level of challenge is just about right, though as might be expected from the genre, it's not always well-balanced on the hardest difficulty. It's pretty forgiving, though - levels are typically quite short, and there's lots of permanent upgrades to unlock as you play. I didn't enjoy it quite enough to want to unlock everything, but I had a fun dozen hours with it.

This seems like a cute game, but be aware it's a MOBILE and CONSOLE PORT!

That said, while this game seems very simplistic and the story line seems fit for kids under 10, you'll quickly find a great strategic RPG adventure underneath the cuteness after a couple of dungeons.

There is a heck a lot of diversity, evening within basic slime. And it's not just their color, it's how they die, if they die, or explode, or leave behind damage goo.

I've quickly gone from "this is way too simplistic" to "oooh, I'm rather enjoying this!!"

6.5/10. The game consists entirely of using different classes of characters to navigate procedurally generated dungeons and kill monsters. You can upgrade the characters via leveling and purchasing equipment/upgrades, but that's about it. There aren't many choices in the game, and you're not _really_ building a town or managing resources outside of money. The combat (which is the vast majority of gameplay) is fun for a short period of time, but overall, this isn't a game I can play for a long period of time. If you're going to buy it, consider how much ~2 hours of enjoyment is worth because it gets stale after that.

I love this game. I love how the different classes have vastly different playing styles, and how there was the option of a potion to randomly scramble your powers (I gratefully used that for the classes I just couldn't wrap my head around!). I finished it in about 35 hours, and it was SO MUCH FUN.

This is a surprisingly solid little game. A handful of relatively simple rules and systems have been balanced to give surprising depth, and I especially appreciate the way that higher difficulty levels tweak the rules in interesting ways rather simply inflating monster HP and damage, as many games do. It really brings the puzzle-like nature of each map to the forefront. I'd also say it's an overwhelming positive that, unlike most traditional roguelikes, you can actually beat this game without investing hundreds or thousands of hours.

It's not perfect. As with most roguelikes, the randomness can unfairly wreck a playthrough (although this is mitigated somewhat by the relatively short time investment for each dungeon run), and if you're prone to frustration then some of the Savage-difficulty levels will utterly enrage you.

A less vital but pervasive issue is the fact that the peripheral systems just get left by the wayside. I had bought pretty much everything I needed from the village market by the time I started doing Savage difficulty, so for the entire latter half of my time with this game the gold rewards were irrelevant. The village-building section is clunky as well... compounded by the fact that it doesn't affect any of the actual gameplay in any way. That plus a weirdly truncated story leaves me with an overall feeling that a lot of planned content ended up getting cut.

But the art is nice, and the fact that each "class" encourages a truly unique play-style means that there was enough replayability to carry me all the way through beating the game with every class on every level. As long as you've got some tolerance built up for the abuses of the RNG, this one's recommended.

Antes que nada, indicar que es un port de un juego movil, se nota en el diseño y la interfaz.

Ahora bien, se trata de un roguelike sencillo, muy newbie-friendly. Tiene un sistema de mejoras permanentes que hace que cada intento sea más facil. Así mismo tiene varias clases de personaje, cada cual con sus habilidades.

Sin ser nada del otro mundo es una buena introducción a los roguelikes por turnos.

Sproggiwood can feel a little basic in it's style, but it's a really well done old school roguelike. The simple controls are very effective and the combat is quite tactical at times.
It's also nice in a genre with an over used grimmdark aesthethic to have a roguelike with a sunny look to it and also to have a sly sense of humor.(something that hasn't happened since the days of Nethack) But don't let the exterior fool you, this can be as punishing as one of the more grimmdark entries .

Fun little game that would be a great introduction to turn-based dungeon games if you haven't played many before. Sometimes challenging but overall it gets pretty easy once you unlock the classes and items that suit your playstyle. Simple so it's easy to learn. Not a lot of replayability for experienced players (no endgame dungeons etc...), but if you're looking for a fun, casual, turn-based game to spend a couple of hours on then I'd definitely recommend it.

The storyline has a lot of character and it's pretty unique. But it's also a bit uninspiring, and doesn't make that much sense. Still, it adds to the overall feel of the game.

Casual fun and very simple rogue-like. Some rolls are absurdly hard; some much easier.
Maps are random enough to feel new after a death restart, but lack actual strategy. Found ninjia class to be easiest class to clear through most maps.
Kind of forgot the plot line half way through. (No characters building or development, barely any plot).

- [b]Дисбаланс кривой сложности[/b]. Очень сильно взлетает кривая сложности на болотных уровнях (середина игры) и сильно просядает в горах/на лугах (последняя треть игры). И всё из-за бесконечно спаунищихся монстров "Чёрное Желе" (да, вам не показалось, главным враг этой игры не ожившие грибы-волшебники (!), а ходячий желатин).
- [b]Не высокая реиграбельность[/b]. Кроме того что можно пройти всю игру, её можно проходить и на высоком уровне сложности, однако малое количество комбинаций умений класса и снаряжения, не повышают интерес (даже с зельем рандомизации умений).
- [b]Баги[/b] Захотелось повыбивать все ачивки, но вот вылеты из игры выбили из меня это желание (вылетел - начинай заново уровень). Также, иногда вам могут не засчитать прохождения уровня, что также неприятно и в ту же копилку.

Sproggiwood is a turn-based, rouge-lite in which you take one of six progressively unlocked characters into a multi-level (though still remarkably short) dungeon. There are roughly 10 such dungeons. Once a dungeon is defeated you may, in a strictly linear fashion, move on to the next dungeon, or you may replay an already cleared dungeon with a different character. In between dungeons you may spend acquired gold either on permanent upgrades which benefit all characters OR you may spend gold on items which help only one of the characters. Once purchased, an item may be equipped on that character at the start of all future runs. There is also a small town which you may cosmetically alter (for some reason).

Each character has four skills which may be unlocked or upgraded as the character gains experience on a given run. Characters start each run at Level 1.

Pros:

[*] Nice diversity in skills between the six characters. The character move sets seem true to their expected theme and each plays surprisingly different given the relatively limited mechanics present in the game.

[*] 95% of items across all six classes were merely copy-paste w.r.t. the powers of the items. This came across as quite lazy to me.
[*] While the ability to purchase global upgrades was welcome, the ability to purchase individual items for each character was not. After you purchased the two items you needed, the excitement of opening loot chests was completely removed, as your toon already had the best gear at the outset of the dungeon. Removing the thrill of item-finds in a rougelite/rougelike game is a bad idea.
[*] Many aspects of the game were half-baked or outright stupid. For example, there was a quest log, which only and always had one quest, which was to basically proceed to the next linear dungeon. Townspeople also joined your town after clearing a dungeon, but they didn't do anything. There was also a townbuilding aspect for some reason, which had no impact on gameplay. These "additions" only served to confuse things.

I enjoyed by brief time with SW, especially at $2. It isn't a great game with a great story by any means, but it was a cheap, quick, positive experience.

Overall: 7.0/10.
