It’s still an incomplete game, which is why it’s in Early Access. Some people say not to buy it yet, but the price will likely stay the same at full release anyway. In its current state, it’s a playable sandbox, similar to how SE1 is playable but still feels unfinished. That said, it offers a different experience and is still very much worth it in the same way SE1 is. If you already have the itch to play, it’s easy to enjoy even now.

Just don’t expect a lot of workshop content yet to enhance the experience. People who complain about its incompleteness with less than 8 hours of gameplay will never really understand that anyone with a bit of imagination can create endless scenarios, turning an unfinished game into 1500+ hours, much like we did with SE1, the scenarios are endless even without workshop, and these worlds are massive!

That said, I'll leave it off with this SE1 statement from 2013:

THIS REVIEW WAS WRITTEN DURING VERTICAL SLICE 2 ALPHA, it's relevance may diminish as the live version progresses into VS 2.X and beyond:

It's certainly still pretty early in its dev cycle, but as a 3500hr SE1 veteran I'm excited by what I see so far. Drilling is much less annoying with improved sounds, and auto-collection of ore. The backpack crafting feels good, but I think its going to be seeing a rebalance before 1.0, so far it feels a little "too good", almost like there is no need to build a base at all. Flying/maneuvering feels more natural, thrusters feel more visceral, overall improvement for the ship flying experience.

I for one am enjoying the story mode, I dont feel like it takes away from the sandbox at all, just adds some filler when you dont have a personal goal in the oven. Hopefully the contracts get filled out a bit. I do enjoy building, but the current contracts make it feel a little pointless. Go to _____ asteroid, build/repair ______ there, leave, get paid, now your new structure is abandoned for good, or you go squat in it with no consequences and make your clients new base that you got paid to build your new base. Fine for alpha filler.

I am playing at 2K on a ROG Ally X handheld with a Radeon 9060XT on an egpu dock via thunderbolt 4, and my performance is great. Speaking of graphics, it looks stunning compared to the original, and the combined grid really lets that shine with your builds, well designed grids look fantastic, almost like they're not made from blocks.

There is still a fair amount to do in SE1 that isnt available in SE2 yet, it's not ready to replace SE1 for actual gaming time imo, but I am enjoying dipping in for a bit of a preview every major update to see how its going, and I cannot be more hyped for water to be introduced, that may be my tipping point.

The future looks pretty bleak here...

Even on strong hardware performance is unacceptably bad, and it is hard to imagine serious gains in optimization will be had considering how real time fluid simulation is in the cards for future updates. In scenes with no ships or moving parts it struggles to maintain a stable 30 frames per second. I have little hope that large scale space battles will be playable at an acceptable frame rate.

Additionally the development of survival mechanics seems to be extremely confused, with refining and processing steps omitted entirely in favor of printing ship materials directly from raw ore. Stone has also been completely removed from the game for some insane reason.

Overall just a fairly bleak outlook

Я понимаю што это альфа и срез, но епты, у вас уже должно быть хоть какое то геймплейное ядро, хотяп ОДИН квест где нужно подумать головой, например. Просто чтобы я увидел, что это планируется. All they had to do, is improve SE1, not change it's mechanics.
They claim to chase realism, but then they come up with ideas like 'streamline' a full spaceship from your backpack, from ore.

Also, what has anything to do the colonization progress with contracts ?
Someone send a dictionary to Keen and explain them what colonization means.

I kept saying for a decade that hydrogen thrusters must use oxygen as well, to burn.
Conveyors should be able to be on separate categories for gas, liquids or solids.
After a decade they never figured it out, instead they spent time on DLCs.
They expected the community the fix their game instead.

They said it's a space exploration and engineering game, but public servers had barely 16 player slots.
I expect the same joke with SE2 or even more bold jokes.

Problem with todays devs is that they dont play their own games, they make it purely from a theoretical perspective, which can only be changed by backlash.
Because after a decade they proved with SE1 that advising them is useless.

Ich bin begeistert!
Trotz des frühen Entwicklungsstadium ist es schon sehr gut spielbar und hat Suchtfaktor.
Das neue Aufgabensystem ist abwechslungsreich. Und das bauen funktioniert bis auf ein paar kleine Probleme (diese lassen sich aber durch Neustart des Spiels beheben) reibungslos und sehr intuitiv. Ich spiele es auf Mittleren Grafikeinstellungen und es läuft flüssig und sieht trotzdem sehr gut aus.
Wem in SE1 so richtig der "Sinn" gefehlt hat, dem kann ich SE2 nur empfehlen. Ich habe jetzt innerhalb von 2 Wochen fast die hälfte der Spielzeit von SE1, wenn das nicht mal was heißt. :D
Man sollte aber berücksichtigen das noch viele Elementare Funktionen und Blöcke fehlen. Aber am 23. März kommt zum Beispiel schon das neue Update heraus was wieder einige Sachen hinzufügt. Also man sieht die Entwickler kümmern sich drum und haben eine Vision was mal noch alles werden wird.
Von mir eine klare Empfehlung.

If there was a way to EASILY swap the control scheme to conditional, I "might" try it. Otherwise, this is still just useless drek.

in its current state thered be no way id recommend this game to anyone. visually, the game is stunning, and there are many mechanics and additions i really like. however, i simply cannot get past my disdain for the HUD in this game. it greatly strains my eyes, making the game unplayable for me. i would love for settings that allow for customization of how HUD elements appear on screen, if it were possible for a user to change the icons to appear on or near the edge of the screen that would be excellent.

Keen is awful and this game is going to be a DLC hell. I can feel it just by Keen's game creation background. Want some proof? Try looking up literally any of their other games and have your jaw drop at the amount of money scumming and cash skimming from DLC.

Not to mention I bet you that they'll abandon this game as soon as the sales don't align with their desired income model.

Medieval engineers had that happen and they dropped that child as soon as they could after making a whole bunch of claims and promises.

How about we go back even further to Miner War 2081? An awful game where they made a mission LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE without cheats, and then charged you $6 for access to cheats...

How about to this day they're still making space engineers 1 DLC and you know *full well* they'll not give you the content you paid for over there... I mean, why would they right? They literally did the corporate strategy of 'wait long enough and you'll only be left with the people too stupid to care'.

Frankly I'm going to post this review, and I'm going to wait... I'm going to watch this game development in action as I always have and somehow be sad and disappointed in Keen as I always am somehow in new ways as they bung this whole thing into the ground yet again.

I wish so desperately that there were literally any other games like this, so that I can just escape and go buzz off over there and let this game die the slow and painful death it's so rapidly earning...

Oh, and yeah... I guess this is a review of the game too, so here's that:
Game isn't optimized well.
Early Access crap as usual.
Doesn't have a lot to do. (Because it's early access)
"Pretty"? I guess?

"My last review was a bit harsh, but I think I have a change of heart. I think you should buy this game, but only if you already own SE1. SE2 is still a work in progress, but this game gets updated every 3 months (On average) which is decent. But the game has some amazing features to it. 1, destruction. Super dynamic, only wish is that partially damaged components should work only partially to make you have to build the full thing instead of just most of it. 2, same grid. Basically, you can actually add detail to your ships. It's crazy. 3, story. This game doesn't seem too much of a story type genre but it sure has a story under development. Also the lag I was expirencing was caused by me not having 8GB of DDR5.. but DDR4!!! I can't believe this computer told me I had DDR5 but it was a LIE! Anyways, good game should buy"

Man sollte sich bewusst sein, dass es eine Alpha ist. Dementsprechend ist der Spielfluss buggy und von sehr regelmäßigen und harten Abstürzen geprägt. Inhalte sind noch wenig da. Bisher finde ich ist für einen Anfänger ist noch nicht viel von der flacheren Lernkurve oder intuitiven Handhabung zu spüren (vgl. Roadmap/Advertising). Das Spiel ist komplex, teils noch fummelig und erklärt wenig bis nichts. Wer nicht schon in Space Engineers 1 ein Profi oder Meister ist, sollte sich die Alpha überlegen, jedenfalls (sehr) frustationstolerant sein.

ship building needs to be like the first one, the size of small black juction is 2.5 not small like the small armor blocks, thust is nice till you want to do rear thrust, buliding any ship isnt possible going stright to space i understand is part of the story think their so be a starting way to be able to build a hydrogen ship not a pre built as the one you get you try and modify and lose all control of it. needs alot of help before full 1.0.

A good start but a long way to go to catch up to it's older brother. As a long time player of the first iteration it seems that this second installment is dumbed down with very little granular control over grids, no control options over groups on an action bar. As an alpha release there are bugs and glitches that will cause a CTD or a full reload of the game engine to clear issues.

On the good side:
New grid building system....FINALLY. The level of possible detail is pretty nice.
Graphically modern planets (there are 2 so far).
Ships feel weighty and the physics feels responsive.

Not so much:
Clunky UI and Clunky GPS, sector map is near useless.
MAX Grid speed up from 100 m/s to 300 m/s MORE SPEED PLEASE.
No hot bar for grid control is disappointing.

Space Engineers 1 has a fairly robust modding community and thus things that I felt should be different were often mods that could directly change the base game such as max grid speed for example. While there are a few mods popping up for Space Engineers 2 full support is going to be a while. It seems Keen Software encourages modding so I have no doubt by this time next year Space Engineers 2 will be in a better place for a fully custom experience.

Summation:
For an Alpha release it's pretty good and hems in the basics. I encourage appreciators of the first installment to just go ahead and opt into the alpha to support Keen Soft in there endeavors. Keep up the great work Keen!

Crashed the ship I just rebuilt as part of this initial story line. So what now? :-) Rebuild a ship capable of going to orbit from scratch? Very unforgiving and enough sim to get me hooked.

I loved SE1. That said, I am concerned for the direction SE2 will go. For one, I really don't like welding from ore being in the game. It suggests that there will be an emphasis on simplification for the benefit of new players this time around. This is a bad idea. It is self-sabotaging. The whole point of engineering is to embrace complexity, trying to make things artificially simpler to appeal to a wider audience will only rob you of the audience you have while failing to interest those you are trying to sway. It removes opportunities to be and feel creative. Leave construction how it was. Welding from components was a better, more rewarding system that made you feel more like a Space Engineer.

Also, focus heavily on weapons this time, with vastly increased weapon ranges for high caliber guns. In space, engagements should be able to take place on a scale of kilometers, even tens of kilometers. People aren't just building small fighters and assault ships/gunboats, they are building heavy cruisers, battlecruisers, battleships, carriers, behemoths. Limiting such ships to massive numbers of tiny guns that are only able to fire at close ranges is a mistake. We want long range slug-throwing boom-fests, CIWS systems meant to fight off long-range cruise missiles and space torpedoes, fighters capable of carrying devastating short range anti-ship weapons, energy-expensive shielding systems which feed off of ship power and can overheat and fry themselves when broken by heavy enemy fire, reactors which can melt down and explode when overly strained or damaged in battle, forcing you to triage electrical systems from the cockpit in order to keep your systems running, ammunition and fuel stores becoming more violently explosive, so forth. Devs, talk it over with each other, share ideas, think of ways to make things cooler. Make battle interesting!

THIS GAME IS IN EARLY ACCESS AND HAS GOOD DEVS WITH A PLAN GOING FORWARD AND A HISTORY THAT GAINED MY TRUST!

i bought this game and i thought i'd hate the new system with the backpack, but i actually tried it and i think it makes the early game much better for new players, although it being optional would be cool. i do wish they made things take less material to build too, even standard blocks seem to take too much material to build.

that said, so far whats available in early access is good and i look forward to seeing the full solo campaign, all the content and blocks etc.

Ich liebe den ersten Teil dafür, das ich STUNDENLANG einfach nur Erze abbauen, Material produzieren und immer größere Anlagen und Schiffe bauen kann. Zeit-totschlagen DELUXE.
Bei SpaceEngineers2 ... geht das alles so noch nicht. Ein vollständiger Automatismus kommt vermutlich erst mit Update 2.5 oder so....
Ansonsten aber schon mal optisch und inhaltlich ein würdiger Nachfolger. Der noch auf Vieles warten lässt.

not recomended keen dont listen players modders made custom size blocks and keen removed it for later dlc-s - dont buy. they restrict this extremly heavly. and there is no mechanical blocks yet no piston, rotors or hinges. wheels. if modders make something usefull then keen remove it with next patch but cant complite game dont get it.

Tout d'abord je tiens adire comme les autres: C'EST UNE EARLY ACCESS !

Donc y a pas tout mais en vraie.. le jeu est si bon alors qu'il est pas fini quoi.
Le 1 été bon ( il l'es encore ) mais son petit frère est déjà sur une bonne lancé

Meilleur interface ( qui aurons sûrement des améliorations ).
Un suivis des ajouts et autres bien renseigner ( actuellement le piston et c'est fabuleux ).
Niveau graphisme, chef d'œuvre.

Petit plus perso: Le fait que le mode survie a une petite histoire qui donne envie de faire les mission des stations et débloqué progressivement les blocks et autres composants.

Bref je le dis par rapport a d'autre jeu ( genre Ark) qui sorte des version "2.0" de leur jeu , lui , il en vaut la peine.

Its Alpha , it has a way to go , but as a age old fan of the first one i fully support the direction this one is going and look forward to the planned updates , not sure why some people crying over the backpack but i welcome it , i havnt checked options yet but my only request regarding backpack is being able to choose wether we start with one or not .. given the current state of the game its better to keep it for now anyway.

Came back to this after part of their tutorial was having you grind something into instability and then killing you, sending me back on 2 retrieval missions.

2 missions later it decided to auto-save and overwrite my game 5 feet from an asteroid going mach-5. Absolutely completely done for now, give them some time.

Als Spieler des ersten Teils war ich sehr neugierig, was sich nun alles geändert und gegebenenfalls verbessert hat.
Das Spiel ist noch lange nicht fertig und das was bis jetzt existiert stimmt durchaus positiv. Die Grafik ist gegenüber des angestaubten Vorgänger ansprechend. Die Spielmechanik durchdachter und im Handling gestrafft. Das Herstellungsmanagement ist nun dual: Es können Gegenstände direkt mit Erz mittels Rucksack hergestellt werden und gleich zum Bau verwendet werden. Damit ist es wesentlich ist einfacher Schiffe und Gebäude zu bauen.
Die Blueprints wurden auch besser gelöst, denn im SE1 war der Bau mit Vorlagen auch sehr unübersichtlich. Der Storyguide weist einem die Richtung und grundsätzlich war es spielerisch für den Anfang ganz nett.
Das Speichermanagement ist im Moment noch keine Freude. Ich habe alle Grafikoptionen auspropiert und selbst bei der niedrigster Grafikoption (da schaut das Spiel schon fast aus wie am Amiga) kam es mit meinen 16 GB RAM regelmäßig nach 15 Minuten Spielzeit zu Aussetzern von 5-10 Sekunden, aber kein Absturz! ;)
Am Schlimmsten war die Sicherungspolitk: Ein automatisches Überschreiben der manuellen Speicherstände zwang mich nach 20 Stunden einen kompletten Neustart durchzuführen. Mein etwas unbeholfener Crash in einen Asteroiden wurde mit einer automatischen Überschreibung meiner Sicherung "belohnt". Ich hatte daraufhin keine Lust, Zeit und ausreichende Ressourcen in der Nähe meines Span-Punktes (ein "Maus-auf-dem-Mars"-Asteroiden) und musste/durfte neu beginnen! Selbst nach Deaktivierung der automatischen Speicherung wird fleißig weiterüberschrieben. Gaaaanz blöde Sache...

This game doesn't place any importance on the feel of the fundamental FPS mechanics. "Mouse look" and "WASD" movment both feel horribly wrong compared with games that get the FPS basics right like CounterStrike or Overwatch.

With how bad it feels just to aim and look, coupled with inconsistent framerates/performance I haven't been able to enjoy this game at all, and it was expensive. I have waited a long time before writing this hoping that development would come along quickly with all the early access money, but that is far from the case, development seems strangely slow for a team that has multiple popular Steam releases behind them

the best news so far though. the assistance during the survival mode is above par. my 8 year old son was able to log in for the first time and run the game without issues or playing 20 questions on what to do.

I can't recommend this game with its current systems. I will say it is fun, but it isn't Space Engineers.

Everything has been made way too easy. I preferred being thrown into the wild and experimenting rather than having multiple ship designs laid out in front of me. It does play a lot better than SE1, and I hope that with time they will make things more complex. When/If that change comes, I'll update this review.

Space Engineers 2 is Alpha. Judge it like an Alpha.

I’ve got thousands of hours in Space Engineers 1, and I get why some veterans are spooked right now—SE1 trained us to expect a very specific “drop in → grind up → build anything” loop. But after spending time with SE2, I don’t see “the franchise being ruined.” I see a foundation being rebuilt, and that comes with rough edges early on.

1) The stuff that will “make” SE2 isn’t all here yet

A lot of the features many of us are waiting for (things like more advanced environmental systems—water physics is a big one for me) are exactly the kind of additions that can give ships and bases new reasons to exist beyond self-imposed goals. SE1’s late game often turned into “build for the sake of building.” If SE2 is aiming to give the sandbox more meaningful engineering problems, I’m here for that—even if it takes time.

2) Accessibility isn’t the same thing as “dumbing it down”

I actually like that SE2 seems to be smoothing the entry ramp. In my group, we’ve got two types of players:

Builders (who love designing and optimizing)

Testers (who love flying, breaking things, and stress-testing designs)

SE1 is amazing, but it has enough front-loaded friction that the “testers” often bounce early or avoid contributing to repairs/resource work because the learning curve is steep. If SE2 makes it easier for more people to participate in the basics, that’s not betrayal—it’s a bigger player pool and more hands helping keep the ship alive. Less tedious setup for fundamental materials/early logistics? I’m not mad about that.

3) Unified building feels like a huge step forward

The new unified building direction is one of the best changes so far. Is it perfect? No. There are still missing tools/parts that will matter for “final form” ship design (hidden conveyors, clean utility routing, polish passes, and being able to design once instead of rebuilding in stages). But that’s exactly what an Alpha looks like: the core workflow first, then the depth.

4) AI/NPC being integrated early is the right move

SE1 often relied on mods to feel alive. Mods are great—until you can’t find a group/server using the same set, or updates break your “must-have” AI/NPC setup. I’m encouraged that SE2 is leaning toward deeper built-in AI/NPC systems from the start, and still supporting modding. That combo is how you get a living sandbox without every session depending on a fragile mod stack.

About the “missions” / “grind” complaints

If missions currently feel like they’re gating core progression or not explaining rewards clearly—yeah, that needs iteration. But I see it as early onboarding structure, not a permanent “AAA checklist” direction. The fix is pretty straightforward: make basic engineering essentials available early (or clearly explained), and reserve mission-locked rewards for optional upgrades, cosmetics, special variants, or advanced tech—not “you can’t build your first real ship.”

About the dialogue/backpack criticism

Dialogue can be toned down or made optional. That’s polish. The backpack/early convenience tools also feel like they’re there to reduce early frustration while systems are still being built out. If the concern is “it removes the need to engineer,” the answer is balance and settings—not panic. Give us server/world options that control those conveniences and you keep both crowds happy.

Verdict: If you want a finished SE1 replacement today, you’ll be disappointed—because it’s not finished. But if you want to be part of SE2 becoming the game we all wish SE1 could evolve into, the building foundation and direction look promising. I’m rooting for it, and I’m willing to be patient while they get it right.

Confusing and unclear instructions at start. I never played the first one and have no idea how to get glass which is needed to fix your initial ship. Menus are weird and I don't know what to build to get ore refined. Really tried to figure it out but I give up. Too clunky to mess with anyways.

Well i got the game last year and it was too soon. Now The game is showing a very promising future. Instead of being very complicated like SE1, SE2 have a very distinctive layout now, easy to navigate menus, Controls a little easier than SE1 and the graphics is a homerun game winner over SE1. SE1 was more of a standalone acquired taste of a game, however, SE2 will be able to compete heavily with other space sims in the genre. Keen Software House, You did wonders this go around.

This game is less stable than a bethesda game, BUT Space Engineers 1 runs great and this is an early access game right now. so i have high hopes for these devs and I know they are working hard, and what little is here is really good already, meaning the full product will be awesome. when this game hits its final release version, i WILL redo this review, but until then people paying money should know its not stable, it crashes a lot, many things have yet to be added but the devs have a good track record.....so far. as long as the money doesn't go to their heads or they decide to use their game to push political agendas, I expect this game to be either just as good or more likely BETTER than SE1. I genuinely look forward to the future of this game and if the devs do see this review, I can see your hard work in this game already and its looking good!

Liebe Community, ich schreibe normalerweise keine Rezensionen, doch mich nervt wie ihr auf so ein Spiel, welches in der Entwicklung ist, reagiert. Ich finde die Grafik wunderschön und die alte Physik ist auch drinnen, ja es gibt ein paar Bugs, aber dafür ist dein Speicherstand da, und ein Bug Melder. Wartet einfach mal ab, ich war auch erstaunt warum brauch ich für die kleinen Dinge keine Assembler und dann dachte ich mir, eigentlich schon raffiniert gemeistert, ich kann ohne Schiff bzw. ohne assembler auf einen Planeten und mein eigene Station von 0 aufbauen, thats great. So schaut nachvorne und freut euch auf ein super Game. Happy Playing :)

Derzeit? Hübsch anzusehen.
Aber nahezu ein NOGO ist die (noch) nicht gegebene freie Konfiguration von Maus/Tastatur. Nicht jeder spielt mit WASD. Sei es als Linkshänder, PC-Veteran (Cursortastenspieler) oder aufgrund Handikaps. Die Belegungsvorgabe selbst auch für WASD Kids verkorkst.
Warum dies erst gegen Ende gegeben sein soll? Fraglich und nicht entschuldbar.
(Alpha, Early Ausreden greifen in diesem Fall nicht)

Deutsch kurz mal gegeben wurde wieder entfernt. Kein Beinbruch.
Sollte auch wiederkommen. Letztendlich ist der größte Markt Europas deutschsprachig.
Es wäre eine Marktwirtschaftliche Dummheit dieses zu ignorieren.

SE2 is fun and the graphics do seem better, but the dill inventory bug among others is causing me to stop playing until V2.2 where i hope they will fix many of the game breaking bugs. the hit box for the welder and grinder make it nearly impossible to build anything in tight spaces too.

I like your game, however, it has locked up twice on me so far, both times flying in my space ship towards a marker in space. Both times i had to hard boot my computer to unlock it. i play a number of really large and advanced games including Star Citizen and my computer does not experince any issues this alarming. even 30k's in SC dont crash my computer.
I will not play your game again until you resolve this crashing issue. I will not risk damage to my comuter system on your Alpha game.

As a new player in both Space Engineers and Space Engineers 2, I prefer this more than the first, because firstly, the graphics in this game is the bare minimum for me, the first was an eye sore to me lol. Secondly, the game is so much less confusing, all functions are intuitive and self explanatory, the new features are awesome. The progression in this game is much easier than the first due to a larger backpack, richer resources and the lack of hostility from enemies(weapons aren't added yet). So yeah, I would say it was a VERY satisfying experience playing this game, it's already(in my opinion that is)a good game for the early access stage. If they keep up the good work, fix the difficulty and add customization options like the first game, the game would be a masterpiece!
At last, if you're a new player like me, I would recommend first playing this and then the first one to have a hold on the game's mechanics.

I have played many survival and build games. I have played and enjoyed, ICARUS, GREEN HELL, PLANET CRAFTER, THE FOREST, SONS OF THE FOREST, THE LAST CARETAKER, SUBNAUTICA and more. I understand that Space Engineers 2 is early access, but
it is not intuitive at all. I have spent my first 4 hours frustrated. I can mine materials, but learning how to build anything useful, well, it is not for the weak of heart. I have tried to look up tutorials for starting out with Engineers 2 but very little is avialable. The in-game guidance is not available enough if at all. The graphics are great and I was looking forward to playing this game. I was excited about the total destructable environment (yeah, I can drill into the ground and build). I think there is some great potential for the game, but not as an early access editiion and with the lack of in-game tutorials they may lose some first time players that have not played Space Engineers 1.

I have almost 7,000 hours in the first game that I bought on disc (CD ROM) since late 2014, I was thinking they would actually give you something to do in this game but overall Its exactly the same creative-sandbox as the first one.

Just like how they tacked on survival mode afterwards in like 2013 or 2014 this could really have probably been a mod for the first game If it was made well enough to support that sort of thing, maybe water would never have been possible but I think the crowd that wants water really just wants it on order to experience some marginal hint of something different to do that is not from the depths which is even WORSE to learn to build things than this series.

I haven't checked recently but when I first tried se2 they had changed almost every control for building setting everyone back to square one - If you have as many hours as me you are have muscle memory to control movement and block rotation. It was already a problem for me when they added scrolling block selection to se1 causing existing veterans to switch from hotbar block building to scrolling through variants.
(for what reason was 'arc furnace' changed to 'basic refinery' in se1 not happy about that grr)

In se2 I'm pretty sure theres no way to revert to legacy controls but I'm happy to be corrected.

My main issue though is the game performance has not gotten better in virtually ANY department compared to se1 and has gotten WORSE in almost ALL areas.

What it essentially is; is cranking the sh out of se1's graphics settings, then adding a whole game worth of blocks with an extra billion triangles per block and 4k textures. Plus add shaders, plus raytracing and WHAT? it runs BAD now??
like bruh.
Already in se1 they decided to keep cranking the detail up without changing anything and with the addition of the prototech gyroscope... that ALWAYS SPINS in 3 directions when turned on and CANNOT be set to NOT SPIN for performance reasons; has made them useless to me If i require more than like 8 of them on a ship due to reducing FPS to 20. If you saw this block in 2016 SE mate you would sh a brick - it would genuiley be called a lag machine.

I would not buy this game purely because of the wait time and the fact that it is GENUINELY 90% the same game as se1 but you have to wait another 5 years for it to get fully released (much like se1 taking a total of 6 years from oct 2013 alpha to feb 2019, in order to finally get out of early access)

PLUS; THE SOLAR PANELS AND OXYGEN FARMS STILL DON'T WORK BEHIND GLASS! like WHAATT is the genuine issue. The oxygen farm block already HAS GLASS COVERING THE PLANTS!!! but nah "sunlight don't pass thru glass twin u trippin that aint how sunlight work doe."

Obscene. Strips necessitation of logistics for the majority of the construction gameplay through backpack autocrafting, and railroads progression behind an asinine "go here, construct x" mission system. I also feel like the addition of a narrative story misses the point of what made the original game so successful; Space Engineers is a sandbox game - SE2 is a story-driven narrative. Shifting the focus from construction and logistics to a storyline where you play as a pre-established character with existing relationships and motivations is a MASSIVE blunder and step in the wrong direction.

This game is early-access, and very early in development. A lot of the things I do not like about the gameplay itself may not be final - there is still room for this to be a fantastic game and worthy successor to SE1. However, the developmental direction and the current approaches towards narrative and progression leave me with little hope for improvements on what may be franchise-ruining misunderstandings of it's predecessor's successes.

Been wanting to get into SE for years but I found the original a little hard to stick with for some reason.

I got SE2 after the planetary update and I couldn't believe how poor the performance and gameplay was. The gameplay felt very generic as the game tried to teach me the systems. It was pure jank all the way, very uninspired presentation and the performance just seal the deal. I refunded it very quickly.

I understand it's EA, and I've bought lots of EA titles, but the lack of polish compared to other titles felt like this was an alpha build. I have no doubt that with time this will become a much better game but it's obvious this game is not ready for general public access and possibly detrimental to future EA sales. I won't be purchasing this again until I see significant improvements which is a shame as I really want to support more innovative space games.

I loved the starship building and the physics and sandbox nature of the first (although it's multiplayer let it down a little), but the detail, beauty and sheer flexibility of this sequel is amazing for the dev team size. It's clearly a labour of love and I'm so excited for dynamic water, multiplayer and what the final version looks like. Go Space Engineers dev team, you rock!

They have shown that they finish their games early access with the first game already.

I would not recommend it to everyone right now, based on missing multiplayer or features but would definitely keep an eye on the game / updates / roadmap.

Fans of part one can buy it to test features and have fun with what we already have.

I bought the base game, there was no indication that this was an incomplete game. The only sign was when I started playing, I saw a label in the top left corner that says "Alpha".

It is a very promising game, however, it's clearly not even half completed. The fact that they would sell this as a base game with no warning how incomplete it is seems dishonest to me. For that reason, even though I see there's a DLC released, I'm not willing to pay any additional money on this game for now.

For these reasons, I cannot recommend this game at this time.

Update: after reviewing the page again, it's clear that I had missed the early access section which indicates that it's in development. So here's my review:

As I said before, this game is very promising. If you are looking for a preview to it and be part of seeing the game develop, this can be a great experience.

The physics of flying a ship are great. There's enough in this starter game to start mining and start building a starter base to learn the functions of the game and building a few items in survival mode. It didn't happen when mining asteroids, but when mining on the planet, be carefull as you may fall through the floor occasionally, it's happenned to me twice, I was able to get back in the surface using the jetpack though.

Don't make the mistake I made and read the Early Access Game section so you know what you are getting into. I look forward to the full game.

I have been considering SE for a looong time. Now that SE2 early access came out with decent graphic, I though I'll give it a shot. Aaaand good I could refund this piece of junk.

Experience:
I launched the game in survival mode. Nice initial cuscene to explain why you have ended up on a ship wreck. This is the best and so far only good experience I had with the game. You landed on isolated planet to get resources to survive. Seems legit. Sooo why the tutorail is sending me from 1 pre-built base to another. Details you may say and I agree.

As new player in SE altogether I was expecting some sort of tutorial... and there is one... that sends you from A to B to C to D, completely ignoring the game basics like... I don't know ...the tool crafting. I would expect this to be critical, but I guess it is not. Also it totally makes sense that I can carry two tons of materials, but the locker can only take 400kg.

Tha graphical setting are awful. For god's sake, I'm playing really beutiful games on max setting but this piece of junk is so poorly optimised it reminds me of early days minecraft.

Lastly, the screen in 'digging' mode is 30% covered in varius markers + 'tips and tricks'. Each time I did another pile of rubbish, you get a 'dust explosion' that covers 100% of the screen. At this point the game should be called 'Screen Blinders 2'.

I'll definitely scrap any further attemps of playing this junk. From what I have gathered Space Engineers (the 1st one) is much better investment.

So I've read some reviews and a lot of them talk about the complexity of the new game- "It's not engineering anymore" or "Too easy" however, as someone who doesn't have a lot of time to spare being a crew chief- I love the flow. I think it can deff be a challenge later in game and I think it does their mission of opening to new players really well. I played SE1 when I was little and that game was very confusing- I love learning and challenging myself- but this one does a nice job of easing into it. Still needs a lot but it's almost like it's in Early Access... I also like the story- keep it up.

Space Engineers 2 builds on the original’s core engineering sandbox with significant technological leaps. The new voxel terrain and deformation feel more dynamic, and the upgraded physics and building tools make constructing large stations and vessels smoother and more intuitive.

Before i continue, SE2 is still in early alpha and has more updates/content arriving soon, if you are wanting to buy SE2, it,s truly on your'e own choice, SE2 has a long road ahead but has a bright future that i reccomend waiting for, or join the fun and come along playing/testing every new update they bring, leaving feedback towords the developers.

Compared to Space Engineers 1, SE2 feels more modern and polished, with better visuals and more responsive controls. Quality of life features like enhanced blueprint systems and easier resource management help flatten the original’s steep learning curve without completely removing the challenge.

Early Access is Early Access.

Features from SE1 that everyone knows are coming are still in the works, but what exists right now is already moving past promising to compelling. There is a lack of depth at the moment because of this - for instance, the lack of air tightness as a consideration in ship building. The game does look fantastic in comparison to SE1 though.

That said, if you're not an Space Engineers nut already it's probably best to wait until the end of 2026 when water and NPCs are planned to be in. Personally, I'm waiting for co-op play before I try to bring friends into the game.

I also appreciate that Keen has some of the best dev blogs and progress updates out there for an EA title, so it's easy to keep track of what's coming near and long term.

Expectations run very high and this game has such an ambitious roadmap! The game remains in an Alpha state at the time of this review, which means there are still many gameplay changes and improvements being worked on.

So would I recommend? Absolutely! There's a lot to love, and it will only get better. The stronger and larger the community, the more interactive and immersive the experience will become.

P.S.: For those coming from SE1 and are hyper critical of the sequel... Think back to (or consider) when it first launched and how far the game has come since. We know the devs are serious and committed to the project and will deliver.

So far so good!!

The game runs great. (Maybe a little intensive for some)
There's some personal gameplay gripes. Stone isn't a mineable resources, and the construction is a little simplified, but the core features of the game work, and they work well! There is still plenty of room for changes to be made. The important part is that the game works.

SE1 is currently a finished game, but SE2 has plenty of improvements and upgrades that make it worth while!

So far this is feeling like a huge upgrade to Space Engineers 1. The game is still in Alpha so there is a lot of work to be done, as it does show its flaws. Don't expect super high fps or buttery smoothness right now but the game is more than playable. No multiplayer is the biggest let down right now IMO. The questing system is a great addon to give direction to new players and give people a goal to follow.

Не знаю, почему негативные оценки — для альфа-версии игра сделана очень неплохо. А в целом вполне соответствует обещаниям разработчиков: хорошая графика, хорошая физика. Надеюсь, сделают полноценную кампанию (чего мне не хватало в 1-й части).

Режим выживания мне понравился — хороший способ введения и обучения игре. Надеюсь, проблемы с оптимизацией устранят в следующих версиях, так как при долгой игре FPS сильно падает.

В целом мне всё нравится! Надеюсь, разработчики продолжат радовать новыми обновлениями. Ну и ждём полноценную версию! =)

Habe sehr viel Zeit in Teil 1 verbracht was auch sehr viel spass macht . Jetzt in Teil 2 ist es natürlich eine Alpha im Erly Access . Was nicht schlimm ist . Fehler und Bugs den Entwickler melden ist normal . Dafür ist eine Erly Access gedacht . Nun das Spiel macht auf jedenfall sehr viel spass . Die Missionen machen und Kolonie Stufe erhöhen . Eigene Basis bauen und planen um zu testen was geht . Klar hatte es zu anfangs das dass Game einmal abgestürzt ist aber das war wo es grade rausgekommen ist . Bis jetzt hat sich schon einiges verbessert gegenüber vorher . Man hilft den Entwicklern halt Fehler zu finden und zu melden genau das ist Erly Access . Kann das Game weiter empfehlen jeder der mit bei der Entwicklung helfen möchte . Für die Leute die ein fertiges Spiel haben möchten nun wartet ab bis 1.0 da ist .
