Magic ward is an op card and needs to be nerfed. you cannot destroy the card and no other player can play any card on that base. please fix this card. also brownie forces you to discard 2 cards on each persons turn. not sure if this is meant to happen. reading the card you should lose 2 cards per your turn not 2 cards every single turn. other than that great game looking forward to another expansion

Ума не приложу почему эту игру так хейтят за интерфейс и баги.
На своем опыте я не встретил ни единого бага. Напротив, игра изобилует таким количеством нюансов и таким количеством взаимодействий между картами, что я просто поражен тому, как разработчики умудрились всё это реализовать настолько удобно. Каждый раз игра напоминает тебе обо всех картах, которые ты можешь использовать в каждый момент игры, обводя их светлой рамкой. Каждый раз игра практически комментирует, что сейчас произошло по действию той или иной карты соперника (для этого перед игрой нужно включить "proceed button"), опять же, предлагая, если у тебя есть нужная карта, среагировать на действия соперника.
В настольной версии ты часто забываешь применить те или иные свойства карт, здесь же это всё очень удобно оформлено. Ну и автоматический подсчёт очков силы на базах это просто незаменимая вещь, в настольной версии подсчёт очков со всеми модификаторами после каждого хода занимал непростительно много времени.
Цифровая версия Замеса сделана отлично. Жаль, что из-за низких оценок разработчики не продолжили выпускать дополнения.
P.S. В базовой версии игры вшита дополнительная колода "гиков".
I'm a huge fan of Smash Up and I've played this game for more almost its beggining in Europe but this ? This is absolute trash. Awful UI, awful visibility, terrible music AND sound effects... I really don't undersand how this could've been allowed to be release and get DLCs.

The best aspect of any board game turned video game is the game doing all the tedium and set up. This game is a bit rough around the edges, but its a fun thing to play with friends. Especially for its price, its worth getting.
This game DESPERATELY needs new factions though. Its nearly nine years old and compared to the number of physical expansions this game could have a much bigger presence.
If you want to play the game solo against AI more often and dont mind playing with only the base game plus two expansions plus geeks, its great. If you are new to smash ups, it could be a little challenging, but before long you can see how everything works and its still a great game after 100 factions and 10 years of play.
SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS!!! I absolutely LOVE Smash Up. So happy I can play now whenever I want. I can't wait for them to add more factions! Really solid all around too. Good ui and no problems what so ever. 100% worth the low price tag!

I was pretty excited about this. I'm a big fan of the MtG JumpStart boosters, where you shuffle two random half-decks together and play. This is basically the same concept.
So I figured what might kill it for me would be a poor virtual adaption. And sure enough, this game doesn't have any extra features, visual or sound effects, or anything to elevate it over the physical game. It doesn't explain all the keywords or give you enough feedback why your card isn't working. Although the interface itself was perfectly usable and I have no complaints about it.
But the real deal breaker was the game itself. Smash Up itself just isn't very fun. You're just adding up numbers. And most of the factions were very fiddly and it wasn't clear how they were supposed to be played effectiveness. Maybe the game is fun once you really grok it, but if that's the case, the game needs a better tutorial.
While I enjoy the game itself, I find the interface and layout of the game in video game form to be very poor and confusing. Sometimes it is unclear what the game is wanting you to select or do when a card power activates. This is a game that is best left to the actual tabletop, not the computer screen.

Für mich habe ich festgestellt das ein Reiz des Spiels ist wenn man zusammen ist und mit Freunden einen gemütlichen Spieleabend Hat. Wie haben das schon mehrere 100 Stunden gespielt sind sind seit dem Grundspiel dabei.
Wenn man keine Gruppe hat die auf Spieleabende stehen ist die PC Umsetzung aber ein guter Ersatz leider hat es sich aber wohl nicht gut verkauft auf dem PC weil keine Erweitterrungen mehr kommen.

It's not perfect, but it's a great way to play smash up solo. I hope this game gets more popular again so that the devs release more expansions some day.
I own the board game as well and I love it. You can play against the computer, pass n play, or online. I enjoy playing with family and friends.
There are a few bugs/non considered plays, therefore compared to the actual card game it isn't as good. However, despite this it is still Smash Up, and if you want to play online with friends, it is quite worth the cheap price, and still incredibly fun.
Plus, you get to practice against AI and develop abusable faction combos and strats, so that's nice.
Good enough that I would like to ask you to play me at it sometime.
It's unfortunate because although the board game is fantastic, the video game falls short in this regard. The main drawback is that there are a few flaws that might lead to the game crashing, but when it's functioning properly, it could be entertaining. This could be due to careless creators or licensing to create additional expansions.

Flaws: There's no drag&drop, the German translation is absolutely cringeworthy (don't know about other languages), you can't change the language (at least not in the German version), and I personally don't like the music, but those are minor gripes. [b]Otherwise the game plays quite well.[/b]

This game is ... rough. Tons of bugs, barely functional.
9/10 Incredibly fun just like the board game, but without all the time setting it up, the mess of cards all over the place, and math of power counters, etc. My nephew introduced me to the game and I immediately fell in love with it. I love the game's basic concept of taking 2 factions and putting them together into a unique combination against other players' combo they came up with. The minions are actions are really cool and reasonably balanced. There is a ton of variety in what you can do while playing your minions and actions. Some decks are pretty straightforward, like Dinosaurs. While others need a better understanding of the other factions' cards and actions to play them to their potential, like Geeks. I also love all the artwork and the knock-off pop culture themes and nostalgia. The game is very fun, addicting, and funny.
As for this video game version, it has a few flaws, but is worth every single penny, especially because you can buy the entire bundle on sale for about 400 pennies. I play 49 hours, about 200 games and was super entertained, but it only cost me less than a sandwich. One added benefit to the video game is obviously playing against bots. I didn't try anything other than medium difficulty, but I seriously lost more games than I won. Still fun losing and learning. There are some cards in the game that do not work correctly, like Bear Cavalry's "You're pretty much Borscht." Not all of the minions move. Also, I got this game to glitch and freeze up on three separate occasions when the Ninja Poison card is played on a minion. That card is definitely bugged if played on a minion card that already has an action attached to it. For it's minor flaws this video game is just as fun as the board game, if you love Smash Up and just want to play some games against AI.
I played this game to 100% Steam achievements also, and I will say the hardest for me to get was "Late Bloomer." I'm pretty sure that achievement is bugged, because I intentionally tried to get it in dozens of games before I got it. One tip I can give you is play against more than one bot, because you will have a better chance to play cards after the bots do. Also, before the game starts, the player that chooses the first faction plays the first turn. So, if you start a game and you are first to choose a faction, then just quit and start a new game. Also, in the game settings you can select the option to choose all of the factions, even the ones the AI plays, so you can try to not have anyone play Pirates or Bear Cavalry, because they will often force your minions to move to bases and be the first one on the base.
"Scoregasm" is another tough achievement. To get 10 VP points on a single base I think you need to have base Factory 436-1337: "When this base scores, the winner gains 1VP for every 5 power that player has here. First place on that base is worth 2VP. If you can get a score of 40, you will get another 8VP (40 points divided by 5 is 8VP bonus.) I got this achievement with Steampunks. There is a an action card called Rotary Slug Thrower: "Play on a base. Ongoing: Your minions here each have +2 power." So, I loaded up the base with as many minions and points as I could, and once I was about to score that base I played that card and gave all my minions +2 power. Try Steampunks with Robots or Zombies. Good luck!

We have the physical game, thought it would be fun to play together online, faster, no clean up ect. Specifically bought this game to play multiplayer. Cannot get it to work. It crashes every single time. Disappointing.
Give it some time, it has a bit of a learning curve. Be patient. Its worth it!

Ouch, the tutorial crashed on me? That's a bad start... There's probably a reason this game is so affordable on a Steam sale. It looks like a great implementation, but I think mixed reviews speak to a need for greater game support.
Just a fun digital representation of the card games which I enjoy! AI is decent but not as fun as with actual players. Highly recommend inviting friends to play. Great price for all DLCs when on sale.
I love the card game but this computer game is very poorly layed out, difficult to follow along and not very fun. The replayability is very low as well. I really wish they put a lot more effort into this game and made a game worth as much of my time as the actual in person game.

Besides the user interface experience being so bad you need a minute to realise what just had happened in the past round, it has many .. many more issues.
For starters, the popularity being so low, makes it so multiplayer-online is not an option. Which forces you to play against bots.
And boy oh boy those artificially intelligent creatures just spam minions without having the ability to do so.
They can just play all of their hand each turn regardless if they can play an extra minion or not.
Having that supernatural ability plus the geeks deck, makes it absolutely fun to play.
And then, there's me, who is carefully reading every effect of base and/or bot's card played just in case i missed something.
But nope.. casually every game, there are 4 minions played by a single bot. Who needs extra minion effect to play more right? Make it so robots are the only option for some1 who can play 1 minion a turn.
If i was to rate the game irl 9/10, i would rate pc game a solid 2/10.
Needs to be free to play with hearthstone mechanics. Better UI, better AI System, rewards etc.
I used to play this game back in the day so i was very excited to find it on steam few years later lol but i recommend this game and i hope they add more packs and i hope for this game to get more people on it its worth the play

the game is fun, i have played in real live a lot of time, the problem is with the one's that manage the servers, at the moment of this review the server are down, and it's not a problem of the last hour, they are down from the last christmas... (almost a month ago)

I have a physical copy of the board game and 6 expansions. I love the game. It's very enjoyable while playing with friends.
So I don't know why people are complaining about a digital version of the game. I find the game interface pretty solid and clear. It's a great relief when you don't need to count anything on your own anymore. However it's quite difficult for new players to jump in 'cause there are so many different cards to memorize. But you will catch it pretty fast after you play a bit. Just stick with 2 fractions. After you get used to the cards, pick another 2 and continue. It's really exciting to discover new cards and strategies.
Music and sound effects are pretty nice. I hope developers will release new expansions in the future. I'm especially waiting for Munchkin because it's really fun but very tiresome to play it in real world.

Well I tried to learn what is supposed to be a simple card game from the tutorial, which (as is often the case) let me carry it on into a full game. I thought I was doing ok, but the problem was that I just couldn't keep track of where my go was and if I'd finished it or not! After a couple of times where I THINK I may have lost a go to the AI, I simply gave up as I couldn't be sure what was going on. I doubt I'll return tbh, as I expected this to be a lighter game (as is its rep), not such a concentration process that would take getting used to over time.
Why don't developers realise that in digital versions of physical games, players LOSE the tactile experience of physically playing the game, where they typically have a natural feel of where their turn it! Especially as most digital versions of card-based games involve memorising your hand at least to some degree - therefore making them some degree more difficult from scratch - it's hardly a 'gift too far' simply to clarify/remind players when their go actually is! (Or if they are about to entirely forego it perhaps.) It's hardly supplying tactics.

I love Smash Up! I play the Card Version with my Wife from time to time. it´s way Cheaper then the Card-Sets but it has way less Sets/DLCs (so far 2) for Steam (from i think 12+ for Real Cards). Dont think of it as Fractions rather then a Combined Race/Profession... like Dinosaurs that happen to be Pirates and travel the Sea or Magicans from outer Space...The Game itself is Super easy and fun to play for casuals or you can go deep tactican with counter classes..Online play works but nothing beats a good old Local mode for shared laughters
A really excellent adaptation of the card game, but is missing a whole lot of expansions and therefore a lot of replayability. Please add new factions, Giants, and more achievements for them!
The only thing that is missing from here is the rest of the factions from the board game version

This is just like the card game exactly. I LOVE IT! My only complaint now is NOT about the game. My problem is how much of my time I wasted playing around a game table when we could have all been doing pass-n-play with Steam. After playing several times you have this realization that Smash Up is a FAST game and should not take longer than 15 to 20 minutes with 3 to 4 players. Good game translation boys!

El mal diseño de los controles lo convierten en una experiencia incómoda y frustrante. No creo que el juego físico sea mal juego, pero jugarlo en app me ha parecido un auténtico dolor de muelas (intentando una y otra vez realizar acciones que no es posible realizar sin percatarme de ello, realizando acciones erróneas sin posibilidad de rehacer...). le tutorial merece opción aparte de lo mareante que resulta: un buen tutorial o te guía paso a paso o te deja hacer, no se queda a medio camino sin que sepas donde está. Probablemente la experiencia mejoraría con el cambio de idioma, pero creo que no lo suficiente como para convetirlo en una experiencia cómoda.
I've had a lot of fun playing the physical game of Smash Up with my very patient son. I enjoy this version as well though, I have only played against the computer at a beginners level. The mixing of factions means no game is the same. It's very strategic. When I learn to play better, and faster, I will play online with friends. I hope to see more factions added sometime soon. Challenging and confusing game, but I like it. I do recommend this game.

I think it might be time to ask for my money back. Smash Up does not work. It is a total waste of your money. Do buy this game. It never opens when you hit play. The creators have been promising to fix the problem for three months.

Smash Up is a deck building card game of merging two factions into one, creating tons of different synergy and strategies. Having own both the physical board game and the Steam version, here is my take on it.
If you enjoy the Physical Board Game, this version will be a good alternative. However there are some caveats to take note.
1. The UI takes getting used to. If this is your first time playing this game, I would recommend watching some tutorial videos of how the actual board game plays on YouTube, because the UI here is very mechanical and takes understanding the base game for it to make sense.
2. The Steam version automates and displays the calculation of Minion Powers and Base Scoring, which provides a faster game and less point tracking as opposed to the Physical version.
3. Interaction with the cards are done via clicks & confirms and not via drag/drop which feels less streamlined. While the Physical version allows you to look at the entire board from a birds eye view to see all the cards laid out, the Steam version requires you to hover over each card which will then pop up and enlarge said card to be seen.
4. The AI is competent and will provide a good challenge during solo play. They also move quickly during their turn which means less downtime when it is not your turn.
5. There are tons of expansions in the Physical version which adds tons of replayability and synergies to the game. The steam version currently has two expansions + a bonus faction (total of 17 factions which still pales in comparison to the Physical version with over 70+ factions). The Steam version will benefit a great deal in replayability from new factions and I hope to see more.
In a nutshell, I would recommend getting this if:
1. You enjoy the Physical version "mechanically" and want to play it more.
2. You want to experience Smash Up and its expansions without spending a hefty amount on the Physical version.
Utterly ♥♥♥♥♥♥. The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ developers haven't done ♥♥♥♥ since 2016. I can't wait for this pile of ♥♥♥♥ to get the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ boot from steam.

if yo played the physical card game before, you know exactly what to expect.
It's a fun game where you get 2 factions, each with strengths and weaknesses, and you shuffle them together to make 1 playable deck, some naturally compliment each other more, but creative use of special abilities can yield surprisingly good combinations.
the only downside (at least over the physical game) is that there aren't as many DLC booster options yet and they seem to be rolling out at a slow pace

Its a good digital version of the board game
Fun card game with endless possibilities. Simple concept but it gets real complicated real fast. I'm a big fan of the original tabletop game and this is a good adaptation. The UI may take a bit to get used to (you also realise you've been playing the game wrong for a year) but other than that it works fine. Hope to see more and more expansions until there are more card packs than I know what to do with!
I can't speak for other players as I downloaded this game after the "Pretty Pretty Princess"/bug fix update, but this game runs well. The noises are loud but for a game that combines dinosaur roars, pirate cannons, and spoopy ghost moans its to be expected! (Don't worry the ninjas are quiet). Speaking as someone who owns the physical game with more than a few expansions, this game is exactly what you want for a reasonable price. I would recommend.

While I am a big fan of the game Smash-Up, their digital game is still broken. Even after this last update it still does not properly trace actions and card values. Its no fun playing if you play action cards, and the game doesn't care to actually trigger their effects. Or when you have a minion at a base that is immune to enemy cards, and when the AI plays a card against it, the game still acts like the the enemy card took effect and you score no points because of it. If they can get their act together on this, I'll give it another shot, but right now... so not worth your money.
with the new xpac, many of the old bugs were fixed and it seems almost everything that didnt work right before is working now. I'm sure some undiscovered bugs still exist, but this is by far the best time to be playing this so far.
The game isn't new, and the developers had the time to fix the playing experience: however, they choose not to do so.
Interface is clunky - game play can be slightly confusing. But for what I paid for it, (part of a bundle package) it was worth it. Much prefer the physical game though.

Smash Up is an excellent card game, and the digital version is fun, but imperfect. The bot AI strikes a nice balance between competence and efficiency, leading to challenging but not impossible games without the frustrating wait times for AI pondering that some other games suffer from.
The UI design prioritizes streamlined gameplay over clarity, so it takes some getting used to to understand what's going on. It also is not a 100% bug-free game. Both of these issues are manageable, but definitely take some getting used to... don't turn off the Proceed button, make sure to check the log if something happens you don't understand, keep an eye on the scrolling text at the bottom of the screen, quit+save+restart+continue if a technical glitch occurs, and if all else fails, ask for help in the forums.
The developers do make an effort to fix bugs that are reported, and expansion content is being released, but slowly. Given the complexity of managing the many possible card interactions and the low price tag, it wouldn't be realistic to expect rapid progress, however.
All things considered, players will tend to find the initial experience frustrating, but those that are patient enough to keep playing long enough to grow accustomed to the UI will find a fun experience that is well worth the asking price.
Extremely fun game! Smash up has great replay value, because every paring of factions provides new strategies, combinations, and game play. I loved the card game and I love the digital version. I can't wait until they add more expansions.

If you like the card game you will probaly like this game as well. It is a great "port" and the artwork is beautiful as always. I really hope the developers keep adding expansions. At the moment only the base game and awesome level 9000 are included. Please give me my sharknado!
The AI is pretty good and can be quite challenging to everyone but really experienced players. But it is of course way more fun to play other people and I hope this game grows so you can just queue up for a game.
If a developer randomly reads this I have some suggestions for UI improvements:
1. Scrolling text need to go. There is no reason cards, both in hand and bases should have scrolling text. This is even more important for the "help text" at the bottom of the screen.
2. Discarding cards is way more clunky than it needs to be. Currently if you for example need to discard 5 cards you click one card, there is a short animation and you click "discard". This process needs to be repeated for every card you discard.
A way more convenient way would be when you click a card it turns red. When you have seleced all cards you wish to discard then you click "discard". This is way faster and also gives a better overview.
3. Shuffling cards back into the deck is confusing. Does the first card you choose go on top or bottom? There should be an easy way to tell the order in which the cards end up.
4+5. When searching deck/discard pile only show relevant cards. For example if you are searching the deck for an action DON'T show me minions. Also the order of the cards should be the same as when you have them in hand. First minions with lowest power minions first, duplicates next to each other and so on. I shoudn't have to scroll though the whole deck and count how many tenacious z there are.
6. Base abilities that trigger when scoring needs to be presented in a more clear way. Especially for new players. Now the help text can say "choose a card to play" when all you can do is move a minion from one base to another.
7. Game over is game over. Don't make me to tedious things like discarding cards when the game is already won/lost.
These are all just nitpicks but I really care about the game and I want it to be as good as possible.

[i]Smash Up: Conquer the bases with your factions[/i] is an interesting board game that has a lot of variability in gameplay due to the different cards that are being used all of the time. Each game starts with each playing drafting two different factions (each 20 cards) in order to make up the 40 card deck that is then used for the game.
There are special abilities within each faction to work well with each other, and when combining two factions, often you can find some synergies that will give you even more chances of doing well. With nine different factions in the base game and four more added in the DLC, the combinations are many and how you play is entirely up to yourself.
The game starts with the players picking factions, and the game actually allows different players to pick the same factions, because the luck of the draw plus how you best manage your current cards will still play a dramatic role in how the game progresses.
The base cards are also placed down in the beginning, the number being the number of players +1. Since the game is for 2-4 players (AI), you will start with 3-5 base cards. The goal is to place enough minions or use actions to have enough power on a base card in order to score the victory points from the bases. First player to 15 points wins the match.
Each turn you can only play one action card and one minion card, unless you use the special abilities of many of the playing cards or the bases in order to play more cards to try to edge out the other players.
How you plot your advances is up to yourself, but many things happen mid-game that could turn the tides instantly. You may be trying to take over a base with high powered minions, and next thing you know the opponents are using special abilities to completely overwhelm you without even trying.
There's definitely a learning curve in this game. Learning the base game is fairly straight forward, but in order to play well, I feel that you really need to learn all of the different types of decks and how they work well within themselves and also with the other faction decks. Learning over time from experience will allow you to anticipate some stunts that you opponent may be trying to pull, so that you can counteract them more effectively.
There have been many expansions to the physical board game since it originally came out. Lots of fan-input led to significant new decks being created and distributed. Unfortunately for the digital version, only one of those expansions are available as a DLC, the rest are not there. Though the base game + DLC will have plenty of variability and replay value it would be nice if the additional content were also added. I imagine that perhaps they are not due to the drastic differences among each deck and all of the abilities that would need to get added on into the code from all of the random cards/bases from the expansions that it might get too messy. But who knows? Maybe it's just because the game didn't have a good reception from the beginning and further digital conversion plans got dropped. Either way, it's a real shame that they are not there, but the base game + 1 DLC does offer enough to be quite fun and enough to learn about.
I have read some of the negative commentary about the UI issues. It's not perfect, but it's hardly unusable. The interactive tutorial in the very beginning is very good about telling the player about all aspects of the UI and very basics to get started. I got used to it pretty quickly and had no problems continuing. The meat of the learning comes from getting to know the individual decks and how you can put the cards together for them to work well with each other. Inevitably for cards of the same faction, it is fairly easy to figure out. It's just a matter of getting used to it. But then tack on a secondary faction, and you are plotting out strategies in some games that you never thought could work, but somehow they do.

I think the card game is recommended for ages 13 and up. This is not a difficult game to learn, so a precocious 9-10 year-old should be able to play it too. The gameplay is not that complex, the difficulty is learning the different cards and working out how you can best use what you have in combination against your opponents. It will take some time to get to learn the different decks.

Price for the base game is $6.99 USD, and that gives 9 factions and 16 base cards. The expansion costs $1.99 and gives 4 more factions and a few more bases. Price is totally reasonable for this, though I do have to say that if you want to play online, make sure you and your friends coordinate. There seems to be not too many simultaneous online players (according to SteamDB). [strike]I have a press key and I am unable to access the multiplayer section.[/strike] The kind folks at Nomad Games figured out the issue with the press key and I was able to play online with a friend, and the MP version is definitely more fun than against the computer!

It's a board game that is made into the digital version here on Steam, but it definitely maintains its board game look and feel. I would recommend it for its single-player games against AI as I think it's fun enough as is, and if you have more people to play together, even better. (The MP game online with friends is definitely more engaging and fun than the single-player mode.) I do wish more DLCs are added to be able to access more of the physical expansion sets available for physical board game owners. There are just not enough people playing online at the moment, which is a shame.
Putting that all together, I would rate this game 7/10.
