A moderately fun game, but the crosshair being off and the missile lock system not working make it hard to recommend, even on sale. I had problems with the game stuttering randomly, mostly during boss fights.
Gameplay itself is decent, but the final boss is just really annoying with his only damageable part being a small part of his head. I liked running around in the city levels and being able to see cars swerve to avoid me and watching pedestrians run around panicked.
The music is nice. I can't really pick out any tracks, but it overall suits the game.
An overall decent retro-game with a poor port.

Absolute goated banger, i do vividly remembered seeing the game's cover art on GOG, i didn't even knew what type of game it was, the art cover gives me vibes of Beast Wars: Transformers, when i played this game, it gives off vibes to Neon Genesis Evangelion and other mech media, pure Y2K-ish energy, if you're a fan of mech media then this is the game for you.

一开始我以为这游戏是弹道偏左，每次开枪射的位置都在准星左边，结果拿尺跟电脑屏幕一比，好家伙，原来是准星偏右…不过steam指南里有外国老哥分享了修复补丁，同时解决了导弹锁定的问题（修复前见不到几次自动锁，修复后准星对准一会就锁了）
本作是1999年推出的一款第三人称射击游戏，国内一般翻译成零号钢神或者钢神终结者，不过我这个小登确实没听说过，初次知道这个ip是看到他时隔25年出的前传性质的横版砍杀续作《零号奴隶x》，并且作者为了宣传新作，做了个《雷神之锤》的mod（虽然只有两关，但是质量很高，被id官方收入了），这展开实在是太魔幻了。
更巧的是，本作的移植也是夜潜负责的，要是他们哪天也整个复刻就好了。
因为没中文也没字幕，所以我听不懂游戏剧情在讲什么，更不知道为什么主角要破坏敌人的城市。场景设计不错，主角在一座比重庆还错综复杂的赛博都市里行动，到处是霓虹灯牌与浮空车辆，和敌人战斗非常有巨大特摄的感觉，另外游戏里还有很多无用但有趣的交互，玩家可以把车、人类举起来丢出去，很多非任务目标的建筑和物体都能破坏。
游戏本身没有太多要说的，手感很棒，没什么复杂操作，就移动、跳跃、枪械开火、发射导弹、切枪、拾取、踩踏。主角虽说是机甲，但更像个巨人，只有左右移动和跳跃时才会有喷气特效，并不能真的飞行。

Because of the bugs, I couldn't actually finish the whole game, so this'll mostly count just until half of mission 12. I think that the game is actually pretty decent, but the bosses and some later enemies, bugs and performance issues just turn the game into a lot worse experience. If you want some mecha combat game from around Slave Zero release date (1999), then Armored Core 2 or MechWarrior 4 (both 2000) will probably give you better experience.

The game overall is satisfying, the enemy variety and level design and art style are fantastic, but the incredibly repetitive visual design of each area combined with the lack of color makes the whole game feel very same-y. Also, they for some reason couldn't decide on having you be a slow lumbering mech or a fast glide-y one, leaving the controls feeling like an awkward middle ground. I think Slave Zero would've been amazing in 1999, and it's a lot of fun today, but the game really shows its age and doesn't live up to its potential. $7 is a fair price and it often goes on sale for much less.

COMPRE ESSE GAME NA GOG

Sinceramente não queria fazer essa análise negativa, porém o jogo ele tem um problema crônico em só sua versão da steam, infelizmente o jogo ele normalmente tem que ser patcheado para rodar normalmente em máquinas atuais, mas a versão da steam ela é apenas problemática onde todos os patch que foram possíveis aplicar eu apliquei(Do patch de Diretc3D, Dgvoodo e Peixoto Patch) mas o jogo apenas não funciona.
Estava bem frustrado com isso até que tentei jogar na versão da GOG e bastou apenas baixar o patch do Direct3D e o jogo funcionou normalmente, não espero que com essa análise esse bug seja em algum momento revisado e solucionado, mas para os interessados no titúlo. COMPRE NA GOG

Criado por um time de ouro que mais tarde seria absorvido pela futura Atari, o pessoal da Accolade entregou uma joia chamada Slave Zero. É uma pena que sua engine tenha sido usada apenas neste título, pois o jogo exala personalidade. Com ritmo acelerado e trilha sonora que mistura rock e eletrônica, ele não te dá um segundo de descanso enquanto pisoteia seus inimigos em megaestruturas cyberpunk. Uma excelente recomendação para quem curte um bom jogo da década de 90.

I'm generally a harsh critic with older games that I hadn't played back when they were new, and even when revisiting something 15 or 20 years old I'm usually a lot less impressed with it than I was when I first played it. It's so bad that I see a title like Slave Zero in my library and groan, knowing this was a waste of money when I picked it up years ago thinking it might run on the computer I had then, not yet knowing that once I built a more modern gaming computer I would be pre-occupied with the fancy stuff (sometimes only by comparison to the old crap) that companies were releasing in the 2010's or beyond. That's if it even worked, which most of the old games I try don't.

So imagine my surprise when Slave Zero works as is (mostly), no messing around or trouble shooting needed, on my system and it absolutely rules. The movement feels so good, the combat is basic but still fun, the overall world and character design is cool as hell, the soundtrack is great for this sort of thing and the controls are simple enough I picked up on them intuitively. That was another point of worry, I was a console kid and never bothered learning how to properly use mouse and keyboard, so any games that don't work with controllers can often cause me problems. Just too many keys to try and remember. Here it couldn't be simpler, except for the jump button.

The jump button is the E key for some stupid reason, and I don't think I saw that listed on the controls page in settings. I didn't think there was a jump button because of that, googled what it was after watching a playthrough of the mission I'd been stuck on due to not knowing how to jump, and seeing the person playing was clearly jumping. Google was useless and I had to figure out which key it was for myself, so now you know.

It's not all perfect though, there's some lag by the time you get to the sewer missions and the difficulty spike in mission 5 or 6 is kind of stupid. There's a boss fight where half the battle is doing some platforming so you don't fall into an instant death pool, while trying to damage the boss. I don't think that was very good game design. It was at this point I actually decided that trying to finish the game wasn't worth my time, yet I still think the game deserves a positive review. Additionally, the crosshair isn't accurate unless you play on a lower resolution setting, however I think you can work around that just by getting a feel for the game. The last issue I have is that there aren't any subtitles, and the audio mixing kind of sucks so you're gonna miss some dialogue.

Overall, considering its age this is still a really good game and well worth it for a deeply discounted price, if you don't mind either giving up when it stops being fun or you don't mind potentially dozens of tries once it gets hard.

Игра детства. Возможно для тех кто в 2025 году её впервые видит она покажется скучной. Но кто имел возможность поиграть в неё в 00-е - с радость и с удовольствием пройдут (или перепройдут) её. На сложности "easy" игра к концу может предоставить хороший челендж, в духе тех самых игр с ps1 dendy etc., с по умолчанию "хардкорной" сложностью. Играется на одном дыхании, если бежать не заворачивая и не обнюхивая каждый угол, можно пройти за 4 часа. Ностальгия - это круто!

This is the Steam version of the 1999 PC classic (?). If you play a lot of older games, you'll know modern developers often change mechanics, polish issues, or make changes to controls, to make them more intuitive for a modern audience. This can create issues in the framerate or the gameplay, making these games unfun even for retro gaming.

Ignore all of that; this is a good port! The frame rate does struggle sometimes when loading surprise enemies, but otherwise it's a decent - warts and all - steam release. If you like older games, you'll enjoy this shooter.

The plot is wonderfully late 90s; you're a freedom fighter for The Guardians, the last organization trying to overthrow the Empire. You managed to get your hands on an advanced mech, Slave Zero, and must fuse with it and complete all objectives to become the hero the world needs.

The good: This has a surprising amount of plot for a game with like 11-12 stages, and very few cutscenes. You're given no personality, but the amount of stuff you have to take care of is obscene; assault missions, rescue missions, escort missions, and boss fights galore. The controls are from that weird gaming era where it resembles modern games and controls enough that you don't have to relearn basic skills but some of it still seems arcane. If the control scheme bothers you, the settings will allow you to change defaults easily. The weapon variety is certainly there, with genuine changes between weapon options and types (you have 3: Ammo weapon, Energy weapon, Cannon weapon). Enemies also do scale very well; near the end of the game you will have to actively manage resources and play very strategically to get through stages. The save and load feature is also helpful for those struggling, or to make sure you can stop at any point; even in the middle of a fight.

The bad: The game is buggy; for all that the port achieved, I cannot stress how important it is to save at minimum once a stage. Weapon aiming is slightly off too, with the crosshairs at range needing you to take distance into account to hit. The game's model and graphics are clearly outdated, which is something you should accept when going into a vintage game like this, but this also means slipping through gaps and falling into oblivion. Several boss fights are comically cheesable, two of the last three specifically are more aiming tests than fights to the death. A sad end of the game, when you're waiting for the final boss to stop moving so you can ensure you don't miss...

Verdict: This is a very fun game, which shouldn't take all too long for modern gamers to play through. I think there's plenty to enjoy here, with a fun shooter full of enemies to take down, and a good pace that allows you to go through the whole thing in a single day. With its cheap price, this is a very good option for retro gaming. Heartily recommended.

I was unaware of Slave Zero’s existence until the announcement of Slave Zero X – a game that caught my attention by its PSX-styled graphics, and the gameplay reminded me of Devil May Cry, I grabbed that one as well as this upon learning it’s part of a franchise, and I can wholeheartedly say that I truly enjoyed this forgotten Y2K mecha gem!

It’s a very short game that can be completed within 3-4 hours. Each level is divided into 3 parts that take about 10 minutes to complete, and the only thing you do is keep blasting the enemies as you get more weapons on your journey to take down the tyrant SovKhan. You also face several bosses along the way.

The story is simple. You are part of a resistance group called The Guardians, and you’re trying to take down SovKhan by stealing his very first Slave Unit called Zero. Our protagonist Ch’an is permanently merging with Slave Zero to unleash hell upon his enemies while getting reports from the Guardian base.

The problems with the game are that the port is horrible, you may occasionally experience crashes and game-breaking bugs, and you may want to follow a guide on how to run it properly on a modern system. I didn’t have many problems with it, except for a few game-breaking bugs I encountered that forced me to go back to an older save file. I didn’t even have to apply a fix to run it on Windows 11, but I can safely say that it’s not the best experience. You’d be better off playing it on a Dreamcast emulator instead, since this port also comes with a memory leak issue that occurs after roughly 30 minutes of playtime.

The Steam overlay also doesn’t work with the game. You literally cannot use it, but you still see what people are playing. Another major problem with the game is that a specific enemy crashes the game whenever encountered, and it only appears in the very last level. You are forced to run past it if you want to proceed further. And some weapons are much better despite the game recognizing them as downgrades.

If you’re willing to deal with the problems of a horrendous port of an amazing game, go for it. It’s worth it for the soundtrack alone!

The port is not the best and requires some modifications if you want to play it without crashes, etc., but the game’s soundtrack makes it worthwhile. It is lost to the mind how people found products like [i]Slave Zero[/i] entertaining when most of the story was told by the opening crawl and vague objectives. Even if players are in it for the lackluster strafe combat, ammo runs out swiftly which forces players to engage in awkwardly slow melee combat (which becomes especially mind-numbing when airborne enemies spawn in). The map design is generically futuristic and it is too easy to get stuck inside some of its geometry. Like many "classic" products, they are best left untouched as they seldom survive the test of time.

This game is somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine. I really loved playing it due to the atmosphere of simple old-school gameplay, amazing soundtrack, and trying to overcome all the bugs, glitches, and crashes - it was fun. However, this game is still in a horrible technical condition, First levels are almost without any problems, but the further you go, the more crashes and bugs you experience. Advice: restart the game if you see no ammo drop or your fps drops. It has something to do with dumping files or memory glitches. Instead of making a slasher Slave Zero X, it would have been better if the publisher made a good Remake or at least Remaster after the Armored Core 6 hype. I would like to, but I cannot recommend this game due to the technical condition.

I played this on Dreamcast back in the day, so I was excited to play a version with better frame rates, controls, sound, more enemy types, etc., basically closer to how the game was intended without the limitations of the Dreamcast.

It's a decently fun game, but as folks have noted, higher resolutions throw off your crosshairs quite a bit. And for me, it crashes A LOT. Sometimes it would take several attempts just to get it launched. I'm about 70 minutes in, and it crashed midway through a level. Now it won't launch AT ALL. I don't really want to reinstall and play back through those levels in the HOPES that it will crash less.

In short, it's a fun game, as long as you're okay with the quirks of games from that era. But the crashing is just too irritating.

EDIT: I was able to get it to launch again and could play it briefly.

Es otro de esos grandes ejemplos de un juego que en diferentes circunstancias o con mayor trabajo/presupuesto, hubiese sido un éxito enorme muy querido.
No está mal, tiene una estética llamativa, se maneja un mecha con armas gigantes y variadas, y para pasárselo en unas horas va bastante bien. Pero se nota mucho que se quedaron cortos en muchos aspectos, los mapas se sienten repetitivos, muchos enemigos no son interesantes de pelear (más allá de girar a su alrededor mientras les disparas), lo mismo con los bosses (en especial el último, horrible) y el port es extremadamente pobre, sin muchas opciones, se traba de vez en cuando y hasta crasheos, aunque cuando no te encuentras problemas anda mas o menos bien.

Es más para los que les interese revisitar un titulo de la época por nostalgia o curiosidad, es entretenido al principio, pero a medida que se avanza se vuelve algo engorroso.

Slave Zero - шутер от третьего лица, который был разработан студией Accolade и выпущен в 1999-м году. На релизе собрал смешанные отзывы, в районе 6/10 от критиков, получил порт на дримкаст и на долгие годы ушел в забвение. До недавнего времени, когда компания Ziggurat выкупила права на торговую марку и не перевыпустила игру в цифровых магазинах, попутно выделив деньги на ответвление - Slave Zero X. Именно из этих новостей я и узнал о существовании "Нулевого Раба" решив сразу же с ним ознакомиться. Мало ли, вдруг это hidden gem?

Ничего подобного не оказалось. Сюжет повествует о далеком будущем, всемогущем тиране, армии биомеханических роботов и конечно же, сопротивлении повстанцев, которые этому тирану отчаянно сопротивляются. Удачно захватив одного из роботов, ему промывают мозги и тоже отправляют сопротивляться, попутно выжигая на своем пути целые жилые мегаполисы с мирными жителями. Ну а что вы хотели, за все приходится платить. На этом повествование заканчивается и только оператор, бурчащий у нас в ухе указания следующего задания, будет напоминать, что в игре есть сюжет.

На 99% Slave Zero - спинномозговой шутер и все что от вас требуется, это бежать вперед и стрелять. Бежать по очень линейным локациям, я бы даже назвал их "кишками", ведь есть только один путь - вперед, исследовать на пути нечего, только прорываться сквозь орды роботов до финала миссии. Если в начале еще надеешься, что игра разогреется и предложит что-то новое, то увы, максимум на что хватило фантазии, так это миссия сопровождения. Я вначале даже подумал, что версия для компа - это порт с дримкаста, настолько игровой процесс ощущается "по-консольному", просто и примитивно, но нет.

Чем дальше в лес, тем будет сложнее. На середине прохождения врагами будут буквально заваливать с ног до головы, патроны и аптечки придется экономить и как будто этого было мало, разработчики введут платформинг. Помните славные времена, когда падение в пропасть значило game over и перезапуск уровня? Вот здесь такая же история, один неосторожный прыжок и давай заново. Смогли осилить и это? Так ведь еще и у врагов теперь есть отбрасывающие атаки, не хотите сами падать в пропасть, вас туда сбросят! Спасает в этой ситуации только наличии в игре ручных сохранений, иначе я бы это дело точно бросил.

Несколько слов о версии в стиме. Я не технический специалист, но она точно сильно сломана. Сравнивая картинку на ютубе и в игре, заметно, что не хватает освещения, либо теней, не знаю как это дело называется. Картинка слишком светлая, будто тени выключены. Я пытался починить игру фанатскими патчами и ковырянием в ini файлах, но все чего удалось добиться - это зависания компа при попытке применить измененные графические настройки. В итоге плюнул и проходил как есть.

Прицел тоже оказался сломан. Все ваши выстрелы летят чуть выше и левее метки на экране, в результате стрелять ракетами на дальнее расстояние становится непростой задачей. Враги итак постоянно маневрируют, так у тебя еще и прицел кривой! Как пишут в сообществе, без фан. патча не будет корректно работать гравитация на оружии типа ракет или артиллерии и без этого пройти последнюю миссию не получится - не хватит патронов. Проверить это у меня не выйдет, ведь мое прохождение закончилось на 11-й миссии из 14-ти. После старта в течении пяти секунд игра крашилась, чтобы я не делал и как не менял настройки, итог был один. Про Alt+Tab забудьте, иначе получите гарантированный краш. Ну и последнее - стимовский оверлей тоже не работает ни в каком виде. Делать скриншоты мне пришлось через fraps и путем шаманств заталкивать в директорию игры.

Не понравилось. Что в свое время Slave Zero оказалась никому не нужна, так и спустя 25 лет ничего не изменилось. Проходной боевик с примитивным сюжетом, одноклеточным игровым процессом и ворохом технических недостатков. Самое смешное, что эту игру выдавали как подарок при покупке Slave Zero X. Очень похоже на злую шутку от издателя. Сделайте хотя бы ремастер, не позорьтесь.

Recommending the game for itself more than the quality of its Steam port. Getting the game to run decently is the real challenge. You can't just go for the DC version that one's worse.
Once you get past that, it's a straightforward but fun game. There's nice weapon variety but the game's insistence on labeling things as "upgrade" and "downgrade" muddies it somewhat. The developers' original intended aesthetic was watered down from a more explicit biomechanical theme, but now in 2024 a somewhat generic 90s sci-fi is in itself an aesthetic. Same goes for the game's big huge pickups that were normal then but a nice appeal now. Compared to other old PC shooters the levels are divided into shorter segments so there's less of a desire to constantly save the game so that's a point for it. Got stuck in level geometry a fair bit but it generally ended with me eventually jumping and flailing my way out. It does have a bit of a feeling of being a big monster that lots of games don't capture, like being able to just pick people up and throw them even if it's impractical. There's a stomp button too
I didn't understand half the dialogue cause it was drowned out by the gameplay. But that too was something that got knocked down by executives into something more generic. Charles Martinet voiced someone but honestly I couldn't tell who was talking half the time.

Got it for free with the new game.

The game is still fine today with some workarounds but its age shows in the worst places.

I think it looks fine, gives a nice nostalgic feel. The gameplay is still very fun, even if you have one special stomp button that's just flat out not worth using. The setting and story/lore are very interesting.

Playing it above a certain resolution makes your shots actually go a little bit top left from you crosshair making aiming with certain weapons really hard(this happens even in first person mode), and your missle auto lock will just freak out and won't hit anything. There's a fan patch for that, but for me that didn't do anything at all.

Now where the bad oldness shows. The game is hard, in the old way, few health packs can be found and you can die fast, there's multiple missions where you need to defend some stuff, but you can hit those too so be careful with you missles(I personally had to restart all of those missions once because the dialogue didn't finished that I need to protect the thing and the second the health bar showed on screen I started shooting the thing that I haven't seen before.
There's no auto save, so save as much as you wish or else start the whole missions over.
The final boss feels bs because you can only hit it in one point which is hard to aim for(especially if the crosshair isn't working) and takes very little damage, meaning you can't exactly afford to miss a shot.

I might have wrote more negatives than positives but the game is still fun regardless.

just as good as i remembered from when i owned a bigbox copy back in the days.
This game can be used with 3DFX nglide emulation.
It still looks pretty good, it sounds ok and it plays great.
Sadly enough this game is from an age that gamepads where not a thing on PC yet, so you will have to play with mouse and keyboard.
Would i still recommend this old mech game?
Yes i would!
It still is a very good game and it's gameplay is still solid.
If you have never played this game then now is as good of a time as any.

No. You really don't. The fun parts of the game are completely overshadowed by the multitude of issues with the lack of stability the game has when running.

+Destructible props in an environment. Not really common in 1999...

+You can pickup and toss cars, trucks, and even building parts and toss them at an enemy to cause damage.
+Decent graphics for the time period.

-Frequent soft locks. From being caught in level geometry to outright losing all keyboard commands, this game is an unpolished turd.
-Frequent hard locks, resulting in the use of task manager to kill the process.
-Exiting the game requires using task manager for me when I play for longer than 30 minutes per session.
-Frequent instant cheap deaths from enemies with kinetic lasers, often off the edge of a sky scrapper.
-Frequent ammo strain, and overwhelming enemy counts after stealing the exo-suits during mission 10.
-Direct3D doesn't work.
-nGlide results in quite a few missing textures, with no texture to stop me from seeing through the level geometry.
-Resolutions above 640x480 cause the aiming sight to be off center, as well as effectively disabling the missile lock on system.
-Generic plot involving world domination, and you emerge from the sewers to resist! Like we haven't had enough of these plot lines from the 90s...
-Trial and error boss battles.
-No replay value, multiplayer doesn't work.
-Level checkpoints that are not saved when the game either crashes, or is closed. If you exit (or crash) after a checkpoint without a manual save, you will need to restart from your last manual save. This is irritating because if you rage quit after a few missions without a manual save after reloading checkpoints over and over and over, you're kinda screwed.

A note I'd like to add is the fact that I had this from a PC Gamer demo disc, and back then I was fixated on this game. I begged my parents to buy if for me, and fortunately they didn't. The system requirements were pretty high at the time, and our home PC barely ran Duke3D and Doom 2.
I received a much better game known as Unreal. The upgrade to Voodoo for Unreal was much more satisfying than the upgrade to Voodoo for this would have been.

An arcadey third person shooter featuring typical jank of the late 90's early 00's era. Something about the elevators and the destructible cities made me feel like I was an Eva pilot playing this as a kid. Mecha action game which got buried back in the day thanks to a terrible Dreamcast port. The game is starting to receive more attention now and even a new game is announced. People keep calling this a hidden gem.

While I must agree that the style and world of Slave Zero is amazing. Very much feels like a cool 80/90s anime. I really want to love this game. However, the gameplay really is just average. The combat quickly becomes repetitive. New enemies get introduced, you upgrade your guns and sometimes you have to do escort missions. All of these should be able to alleviate the repetition but they don't. You don't really have to use different strategies againts different enemies.

Wanted to beat Slave Zero regardless of the repetition. I liked the world of the game that much. However, later on the game throws so little amount of health but a bunch of tanky enemies with lasers that melt you. At that point it became not just boring but frustrating. I would start over on a lower difficulty but I really don't feel like experiencing the tedioum of this game again.

"Slave Zero" ist ein Third-Person Shooter aus dem Jahre 1999.

Die Zukunft. 500 Jahre von heute. Der Khan kontrolliert die asiatischen Konglomerate und deren Megacitys mit Hilfe seiner Slaves, riesiger biomechanischer Kampfroboter, die eine Mischung aus Mechs und Mensch sind, eine Verschmelzung von Leben und Technologie.

Dem Widerstand ist eine Prototyp-Einheit der Slaves in die Hände gefallen, der mächtige Slave Zero, der nun ausgesandt wird, um die Macht des Khans zu brechen.

Daß das Spiel noch aus dem 20.Jahrhundert stammt, läßt sich schon durch diese etwas krude Story erahnen. Technisch war es allerdings überraschend fortschrittlich. Infogrames entwickelte extra eine eigene Engine für das Spiel, die so ziemlich alle technischen Errungenschaften der Zeit in sich trug. Ein Erfolg wurde "Slave Zero" allerdings kaum. Die Verkaufszahlen waren wenig berühmt und kein anderes Spiel nutzte die eigens entwickelte Engine. Und so geriet "Slave Zero" schnell in Vergessenheit, obwohl es ein wirklich gutes Produkt seiner Zeit war.

Wir stampfen also mit unserem mech-artigen Kampfroboter durch lineare Level, zertreten dabei in den Megastädten zahlreiche Autos und Passanten und bekämpfen mit Maschinenpistole und Raketen Panzer, Hubschrauber und viele andere Slaves. Hin und wieder taucht auch ein Bossgegner auf, der dann meist eine bestimmte Taktik verlangt.

Das ist rein spielmechanisch nicht gerade innovativ, geht aber flüssig von der Hand und macht auch heute noch Spaß.

I had never heard of this game and saw it on sale one day so i pulled the trigger. I am very happy I did. This is a great game that is still a lot of fun. While some problems are present with the "out of the box" steam version, such as missle lock on and your gun shooting up and left above the crosshair, there is a patch for this, but its still perfectly playable and fun,

Slave Zero is an old, simple but very fun game. Reminds me a lot of the robot sections in Shogo: Mobile Armor Division.

+ Combat is pretty fun.
+ Pretty nice weaponry variety.
+ Great enemy variety.
+ Most boss battles are awesome.
+ It looks beautiful. Sure the graphics are very old, but the game is very colourful and full of pretty lights.
+ Level design is so dope. It's very linear and basic, but offers decent variety in environments throughout the game as well it is rather detailed, and the city is full of advertisement billboards and flashy commercials. Little cars and people are driving around. Cute.
+ Environment reacts to you. For example cars in order not to hit you quickly turn to the side and crash somewhere or just pulls over and someone behind them crashes into them. It's so cool. Also, there are a decent amount of destructible environments.
+ Great soundtrack.
+ You can play in both 3rd and first person modes.

- Extremely unbalanced. Often too easy, yet full of difficulty spikes. Some easily avoidable projectile shots only deal 1 damage to you meanwhile a continuous stream laser which is almost impossible to avoid kills you in 2 seconds. The weapons you get also seem completely unbalanced, some are almost useless some are so powerful that as long as you have ammo you're unstoppable.
- Final boss sucks. You need to shoot him at a very precise spot or else you won't deal any damage to him, also he has insanely huge health.
- You can get out of bounds probably in every level, it's very easy to get out of the map.
- You can get stuck often, but luckily I always managed to get unstuck.

Big mech games that really supply a sense of scale are fairly rare, but this is one of them. It's fantastic causing tiny traffic jams and crushing tanks or blowing helicopters out of the sky. The closest comparison I could make to this would probably be Shogo, but this is a simpler game for better or worse. You spend the whole time in the mech, and there is a fairly limited quantity of weapons. Movement is very fluid and there is a mantling system. You have one bullet weapon, one energy weapon and a rocket pod at all times. There are 14 missions by my count; each mission is typically divided into 3 parts, the beginning of which is a checkpoint. Manual saves are not limited and I recommend you make liberal use of them if you play this. With only 100 health encounters can go either way very quickly. Ammo is scarce for a couple of the boss fights which can lead to frustration. The game also loves to put its checkpoints in range of enemies so always be ready to leap into action. The game is also a bit of a buggy mess and requires dgVoodoo or nGlide to work on modern systems, and that's not going to fix everything. The game comes with nGlide now (it didn't when I started playing) so make sure to launch that configuration utility before you play, or the game will become literally unplayable in later levels.

Ultimately, I wouldn't go so far as to call this game a forgotten gem. It can be a good time, but the story is barely present, the sound mixing is awful making it very difficult to follow the villain's dialogue, and the soundtrack straddles the line between catchy and nails on a chalkboard. However, a couple of the bosses are well designed and the game's presentation is top tier. If you can get it working I think it's worth playing.

Oh man, another one of my childhood hidden gems I was delighted to find on Steam! I never beat it as a kid, so it was even more fun to finally finish this game 20 something years later.

Piloting a giant robot and shooting at everything that moves is as fun as ever. The game really reminds me of both MDK (pew pew shooty action) and G-Police (future city, neon lights, huge skyscrapers 'n such), another two of my childhood classics. Not to mention the gritty, '90s dystopian city aesthetics going on - I absolutely love it!

While the game ran great on my W10 machine, it should be noted it's using a Glider wrapper to ensure compatibility (and for some reason the gamma was cranked up to eleven - now I know the original was fairly dark, but it makes the game appear a bit too bright in some places). Some general weirdness kept crashing the game in the final two levels in the same spots - I had to restart these level twice to finally get through.

Still it was a blast. The game works great with WSAD + mouse combo, and I can easily recommend it if you're looking for a nostalgic shooting action with huge robots!

Oyun güzel ama zor seviyede yenilmeyen bir bölüm sonu canavarına sahip. Üstelik son bölümlerde sürekli oyundan atıyor. Biraz uğraşıp oyundaki hata ve uyumluluk sorunlarını giderip piyasaya sunsalar çok daha iyi ve etik olacakmış. Güzel ama olmamış oyun. Sinir oldum gerçekten.
