I have 100 hours and what must be 40 attempts in this game and I have come to terms with the fact that I will never see half of the content it has to offer. Of the 100+ hours I've played, roughly 1/3 of them have been immensely frustrating.
There are 10 sectors, and on beginner difficulty I have never managed to get out of sector 5. The devs can't possibly believe that beginner difficulty is appropriately difficult. The difficulty spikes are utterly absurd and maddening. You can go from reasonably being able to handle each encounter in a sector to being completely clowned by a random encounter.
Generally speaking, the first two sectors are fun. But once you start taking damage and trying to balance repairs, upgrades, and fuel/food, you realize that there is just never enough to get strong enough to advance. At first I thought I just needed to "get gud", but after three dozen tries and 100 hours I finally had to accept that the game is reguarded.
If you can be happy considering sector 4 the final sector before the sector 5 end game, if you can be happy never unlocking the final ships, if you can enjoy getting absolutely destroyed by random encounters that spike the difficulty way beyond anything you should be reasonably expected to face, then maybe stock up on your favorite alcohol and buy this on sale.
If not, stay away until they fix the difficulty (if they were going to do that, I'm sure they would have by now).

Even on Beginner the difficulty level is just stupid
the gameplay unballanced and as mentioned before is extremely difficult! almost all the game events are dangerous for a player! this game is not a fun, it is hard work!
Not played much of this, but it's so stacked against the player. You have to go get resources but most of the time you get hit by bad events. This leads to attrition where you can't go anywhere. Plus most battles you are completely outgunned, can't run and can't do much, so much as I hate to do this, this is a NO review.

It's so hard that it loose the "fun" that a game is supposed to be. Past the 5 or 6 system forget moving forward. Even if you have 8 weapons, 18 crew, 160hp and 100 shield you end up getting blown up. I regret getting this game.

After beeing obsessed with the new(ish) "Void War",
I love to see plans for a DLC :) and a major update for "Shortest Trip to Earth".
Also the "trip" is not so "short" in my experience, especially compared to Void War.
To be honest I have yet to complete, (basically beat), a single run after 117 hours.
Might very well be a skill issue, :-)) granted, but the point beeing I really like this game.

If you thought FTL:FASTER THAN LIGHT was hard then this is beyond that, but gives exactly the same feeling after becoming good in this game.
Game gives you lots of freedom in the terms of customization, gameplay style. I just would love to see the interior of the ship before the starting the game.

I can run Monster hunter wilds. That means this is just buggy. .. Oh and the AI upgrade button doesn't work.

An excellent spaceship building and combat game about constantly repairing the hull, trading, and storing supplies of and on your ship. If you like games such as FTL, then this will scratch the itch you've been having for a similar game. However it is much more complex, and the fighting system more varied in a way, as many ships can fight you at once. It mixes elements from FTL, out there omega edition, and similar games like Convoy, where you can trade, fight, and recruit crew. It's crazy people don't know about this still. However it can be difficult at times, it's very fun once you get the hang of it. I think it fell into obscurity a bit unfortunately though, which is a shame because it's very well made! I thought I had written a review of it previously, but realized I guess not, so I decided to write one now while browsing through my spaceship sim games looking for one to play again. Despite it not getting updates anymore and having a few exploits, like one allowing you to place more than the maximum amount of turrets (Which i find quite fun), I think it's still very playable and fun!

Not that great Difficulty is all over the place had games where spawn in and get jumped by a powerful ship right at the start and other games where not get attacked at all for 2 sectors.

2，护盾必须有，至少一个护盾发生器（持续产生护盾）和一个护盾容器（提升护盾上限）。一旦碰上浑身能量炮的怪，没有盾真是被射程筛子，浑身各种大大小小的会起火灾的洞。而且护盾可以免费回复，修护甲可是要钱的，自己修1血消耗30个金属（1金属=1大洋），商人修理1血25大洋，最便宜的才1血20大洋（很少见），
3，有条件至少配置一个EMP火炮，对护盾高伤，还能瘫痪部件。
4，资源不用太多，够用就行
5，雷达是好东西，避免被大怪打得措手不及

I sank 35 hours into this back in 2019. Now, in 2025, after playing Breachways for a lot of time I felt like returning, and sunk another 35 - so it would be weird criticizing it too much. Still, game has some issues.

Overall it seemed a great game BUT one recurring bug ruins it for me.
What is happening? To understand what the problem is we have to set the scene.
This game is a roguelike game. This means you cannot go back. A crappy battle? Deal with it or fail. It is also a spaceship sim. You have to install modules assign roles and manage your ship. This can be a timeconsuming and pretty involved process. To enable swapping of loadouts you can save them. Since you need multiple loadouts for example travelling you have fuel efficient engine and gardens to produce food. Then you might have 2 or 3 diffrent layouts for diffrent combat situations. You switch between them constantly.
Now comes the gamebreaking bug: Now and then the loadouts completely break. Suddenly your combat loadout loads half of your travel loadout. Crew is assigned all over the place and refuses to properly load into their slots until multiple reassigns. Since all of these take time it might turn a no-brain battle into utter devastation ruining a multi hour run.
In normal games you would just load a pre-fight save and have minor annoyance. In this type of game it ruins the game. Since it is also not receiving updates for a while now, this bug will probably remain.
Comparing this game to FTL is like comparing Mario 64 to super mario brothers 1. they are vaugely similar and one is clearly older than the other with less features. shortest trip to earth rocks. i never played FTL.. and when i went back and tried it after playing shortest trip first, it was boring and basic. this game is way better
I really like this game. Very glad i purchased it. There is however a bug I find very frustrating. reasonably often the game will miscalculate the food and the only way to reset it is to exit the game and reload.

Cada partida consiste en llevar tu nave en su viaje de vuelta a la tierra. Una partida completa (hasta pasarse el juego), explorando todos los mapas sin dejarse nada son entre 6 y 8 horas.
Cada partida influye en la siguiente, primero porque obtienes puntos destino para empezar con mas cosas la siguiente partida, y segundo porque algunas cosas se pueden desbloquear para todas las partidas, nuevas naves, mas puntos destino, mejoras de la nave, etc
No todo lo del juego esta explicado, asique tendrás que jugarlo varias veces para ir entendiéndolo y familiarizándote con los conceptos y funciones. A pesar de ello el juego es sencillo de manejar, y los conceptos son por lo general obvios.
En la partida encontraras eventos aleatorios, y diversas actividades que si bien son siempre las mismas, los resultados de las mismas pueden variar por lo que no se hace repetitivo.
Admite mods pero los existentes que merecen la pena ya se integraron en el juego. Aunque a ver si alguien se anima con la traducción al español ;)
En el momento de la reseña hace 4 años de la ultima actualización y he de decir que tiene algunos bugs, aunque no son críticos.

This game is well balanced and thought out. It's a rogue-light, so expect to die, but hey, you do get achievements for that as well so it aint for nothing :)
Due to the different ships and new possibilities that unlock during play it has a high replayability. Currently on my first hardcore run, even though it becomes harder it doesn't feel impossible.
Even though you will need to die a few times to fully understand the game and think of the right strategy to win (and you will need to adapt your strategy during playthrough), the game rewards starting over enough that it does not get boring. And sometimes you just have bad luck and die in a stupid way. You can either be frustrated by it or accept that that comes with the randomness of new playthroughs that keep it interesting. In my opinion well worth its money!
Immensely good strategy game from everything I have experienced so far. I find that it has a depth, and variable micromanagement (like most/many games). I will almost for sure immediately buy BOTH the DLC as soon as they go on sale due to how much pleasure I find in the base game. I purchased this for super low cost (DLCs are more expensive) and am super happy with the purchase. Only thing better would be buying the whole thing at a discount, yet OFTEN I avoid that because there are so many things that can TURN ME OFF from a title. So I avoid jumping in with both feet. Yet when I find something I like, I know what it is!

Didn't really liker back then, I left it alone for a long time and I still don't really like it.
There is way too many RNG element that screw you very fast, at every occasion. A least in FTL as long as you survive you can make due but here it's REALLY against you.
IMO never really quite met the promise I was hoping for it. I haven't played all the updates, but I just didn't catch on it ever and its been ages since I have wanted to fire it up.

This is a great game in its own right. Don't be fooled into thinking this is simply a FTL clone, its far bigger and better than that with its own unique twist on resource management.
This game is better with the DLC as it brings much more variation to the adventure.
You won't regret buying this but be patient as its hard and has a big learning curve. Enjoy!

This is really fun game if you like FTL type of games, I like this game more since it allows you to modify the ship by upgrading the hard points either by replacing the module with a different or better one. Or by updating the hard point to support more equipment types including HP increases you will go to each star solar system to scavenge for resources where there are risks involved. the runs are quite custamizable by using your meta progression points to select what you want to bring on your run. change ship or difficulty level and what system you want to start the game (unlocks once you completed it before)

クリアしたのでレビューを書きます。時間はかかるし大味だけど、クルーをたくさん乗せられる上にニュークの大量発射で敵船を粉砕出来るいいゲームでした．
ただしワープボタンをゲーム中で積極的に使う理由が殆どないことは問題だと思いました．
ゲームに慣れれば，ワープボタンを一切触らずに研究室やドリーム冷凍睡眠装置を使いゼノデータを荒稼ぎすることでショップで修理や燃料、弾薬補給を行いさらには高級モジュールを購入することができます．しかし，初心者はワープボタンに触れば触るほど移動距離そのものが少なくなるのでゼノデータを貯められなくなりジリ貧に陥ってしまいます．
そしてこのゲームは戦闘という行為がかなりリスクのある行動なので，クリアに必須な敵船以外と積極的に戦う必要もなく，敵船との不意の遭遇があり得るワープをなおさら使う必要がありません。
Suddenly stopped receiving updates 3 years ago while still in a state of buggy and clunky gameplay. Not worth it in the slightest; stick to FTL.

not really worth your time imo, unless you enjoy repeatedly losing to pure rng, that you had no way to mitigate or avoid.
I was really interested in the concept at first, and expected an extended period of the game seeming really hard until I figured it out, but it quickly became clear that the game likes to throw unwinnable, unavoidable, run-ending things at you.
Went to google and through some forums, learned that the dev has a really condescending towards people that criticize or complain about the problems with the game, tells people they just arent familiar with roguelikes, or dont understand that games are supposed to be hard. Repeatedly discarded suggestions by veteran players of the genre as them just being ignorant of some detail or another about how this type of game is supposed to work
Glad I didn't waste more time, but really disappointed I wont be getting more enjoyment out of this game. I definitely thought this was gonna be another 100+ hour game for me.

It is fun and I like the unlocks. I would love to see a quest system setup that asks you to fly around, maybe offer fuel as part of the reward to off set the amount of fuel you would need to use. Anyway, it is fun and tough game. Very rogue-like in that sense.

I'm not sure what to say for this game. I like it, but it's also just odd.
Where FTL is streamlined, this is quite the opposite. A slew of resources and a crew that just sprawls. Flip between combat and travel stations mode where you're just trying to minimize food consumption. Game is very linear with each sector having the same experience, boss, and major events.
Weapon accuracy arcs generally spread over large swaths of the ship so you can't do much in the way of focus fire to disable or destroy systems. Point defense is king and trivializes slow projectiles, nukes, and boarders (meaning you can't use any of them). As a result, nukes are kinda worthless unless you drop them all on one target to cripple some core system.
Combat basically devolves to a DPS race where you hope your important modules don't get damaged or destroyed by lucky hits whilst throwing resources at hull repairs and into your guns. Hope you get more back in loot than you lost. Your shields are going down, this isn't a question of strategy or good play. Getting boarded is also a DPS race where you risk having crew drop like flies
Optimal strategy includes uninstalling your resource storage mid-combat so they can't be damaged and leak resource.
The game is "Roguelite" in that you get "karma" points from your last run that can get you additional things starting bonuses to your next one. Had one lucky run roll the final boss early, so I got enough to buy all the permanent bonus karma, meaning enough for all the passive boosts, ship unique stuff, and actually handy things like the good resource storages.
When you wanna make a clone to FTL, but took a mad windows lover as UI designer.
Space battles feels like someone showers you up with LEGO cubes. And you have to solve them quickly.
Another FTL-like game, or I should say, a perfect replication.
That means, this game is neither better nor worse than FTL.
Account for the date it released, which was 7 years after FTL, that's not a Ok-level.

I agree with the other reviews that it is a good game. I will give 9/10. And it is a bit addicting. That said, like other people say it's a more complicated FTL game. A bit more punishing in my opinion. The most nonsensical thing about it is that you have to swap all your "modules" (weapons, food growing laboratories, power generators, etc.) out everytime you want to move around or want to fight. It has "presets" that you can set to swap them out, but you have to constantly update even the presets every upgrade you get. Further, it takes time to swap from one preset configuration of your internal modules to another internal preset. If you don't swap modules all the time then you will be out of resources and/or caught off guard by enemies and killed, so you basically have to do it.

As is made clear by the other reviews, it's basically more complicated FTL. As a result the gameplay is slower and more clunky, but more immersive as a result.
Not the easiest game to get into, very punishing, but it can offer experiences I haven't found anywhere else. If you like this genre, get this game, it needs more attention.
Wow! I never imagined I would find a game that rivals FTL with its new Multiverse Mod, but this game is just so good! I will never stop playing FTL especially but not limited to its wonderful Multiverse mod that really opens it up after their latest free update with all the new items. However, at least for the near future this game will replace it because of its wonderful array of content, wonderful travel and exploration pace, story telling, and FTL style combat.
This game is a whole hearted 11 out of 10 if that were even possible! If you like FTL then BUY THIS ON SALE NOW for $14 including both DLC during the 2024 Spring Sale...
Fast forward to 2025...
No updates. Game was finished, so that shouldn't be an issue. However this game breaking bug where half your crew are stuck in one ship stance, while the other half are stuck in the other stance causes the game to end rather absurdly over and over again... PLEASE DEVS TRY TO CARE ABOUT YOUR GAME and at least fix this exasperating bug!

Incredible game. The emergent stories, the tension, the music and art style and humor. Brutally hard tho, takes a long time to learn to win and longer to learn to win consistently.

初心者モードでもFTLのノーマルより難しいんだが？
攻撃の照準がアバウトなので、FTLみたいに先制攻撃で敵のミサイルをピンポイントで破壊とかは出来ない。
また、敵は普通にこちらの船にポッドで乗り込んでくるが、こちらは出来ない(マンティスで敵船に乗り込んでみたいな温い要素はない)。
こちらのシールドは一瞬で割れるし、こちらの消耗品のミサイルは弱くコストが高いが、敵のミサイルは非常に強い。
というか、だいたい武装がこちらより上で、なんなら敵を3体同時に相手しなければならないこともある。
敵の核ミサイルやFTLのイオンボム的な範囲攻撃が恐ろしく、電気系統や武器を壊されたら、立て直すのが非常に難しい(修理コスト高すぎだろ)。
船の設備の自由度や、資源管理要素はFTLより複雑で楽しい。
1プレイ辺り10時間以上で、一瞬のミスや悪運が命取りになるマゾゲーなので、FTLのハードが物足りない人には良いのでは？

This is one of my evergreen games. I just keep coming back to it once or twice a year.
Each playtrough is a new adventure, with so much variety.
Its FTL on crack.
I love management style and space themed games so this was a blast. It does have some complexities so I would suggest watching some YouTube videos on it to get some greater details. Overall a fun and hard game!

needs fullscreen windowed mode to fully utilize the screen it is on. i have a multi-monitor setup that i alt+tab with constantly. having the game window disappear when i click elsewhere is REALLY annoying. most modern games have this feature, but windowed game in this mode leaves either the bottom of the window off my screen or the title bar off my screen, without compromise except if i want to render the game in a smaller resolution. not a fan of this.
