Shot like a maniac - lives grew like mushrooms after rain. Even my cat wants a turn. Impossible to quit.
I played so many games of this genre, and it's quite rare that you see significant innovations - these usually come at the detriment of the basic mechanics. As an example, I can mention revolver 360: reactor which is a great game to be sure, but it twists the navigation so much that it feels like playing something different from a shmeup, so it's kind of jarring at times.
When I saw this game’s multiple-ship mechanics, I was skeptical at first, but I gave it a try because I’m familiar with other work from this talented—and, I’d add, underrated—developer.
I'm pleased to conclude that my feeling was wrong: the multiple ship mechanic is fantastic, and makes you wonder, why wasn't it done before, and why is this game not more popular!
The projectiles and the enemies are designed in a way that allows you to expand and contract your ship size and feels very rapidly second nature to play.
Apart from the slightly repetitive music, everything is top notch: I really like the character and level design (the changes in orientation are brilliant), the projectile pattern as mentioned are very cleverly done, and it's very fun to play. There are variations in the levels and an additional mode (where you play with just one ship, and this... just works perfectly fine too!) to give you a lot of content for the price, I spent almost 2 hours already but I have added to the fav dynamic collection to go through it again for sure in the future as I can easily sink a few hours more on this.
I recommend it very strongly to fans of the genre, but to anyone, really—the variety of difficulty levels allows players of all kinds to enjoy it, which you don’t often see in this kind of game, where titles are often either too easy or too difficult.
Shoot 1UP is a bold and cleverly subversive arcade shooter that takes one of the most familiar conventions of the genre and turns it into the foundation of its entire design. Developed and published by Mommy's Best Games, the game asks a simple but transformative question: what if extra lives didn’t wait in reserve, but instead joined the fight immediately? From that idea springs a fast, chaotic, and surprisingly tactical experience that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly original within the shoot ’em up landscape.
At its core, Shoot 1UP plays like a classic vertically scrolling arcade shooter, with enemy formations pouring down the screen, dense bullet patterns to dodge, and constant pressure to stay mobile. The crucial difference is how the game handles survivability and power. Every time you collect a 1UP, a new ship permanently joins your formation, flying in unison with your original craft. Instead of representing forgiveness for failure, extra lives become a visible, tangible reward that directly increases your firepower and on-screen presence. This creates an immediate sense of escalation as a successful run can quickly snowball into a massive armada unleashing overwhelming fire.
Managing this growing fleet is where the game’s real depth emerges. Your ships move together as a single unit, but you can dynamically expand or contract their formation. Spreading out increases coverage and damage potential, allowing you to shred enemies and rack up higher scores, while tightening the formation makes it easier to weave through tight bullet patterns. This constant tension between offense and survival adds a layer of real-time strategy to what would otherwise be a pure reflex test. Mistakes are punished harshly: taking a hit costs you a ship, reducing both your damage output and your margin for error.
Level design embraces this system by presenting situations that force players to actively adjust their formation rather than relying on a single optimal approach. Enemy waves, environmental hazards, and boss encounters all test different aspects of fleet control, encouraging adaptability and situational awareness. Some stages offer branching difficulty paths, letting confident players opt into more dangerous routes with denser enemy fire in exchange for greater rewards. While the game does not lean heavily on narrative, its straightforward alien invasion framing is more than enough to contextualize the action without slowing the pace.
The overall structure is intentionally compact, reflecting its arcade roots. A full run can be completed in a relatively short amount of time, but the design clearly encourages replay rather than marathon sessions. High-score chasing, performance mastery, and risk-taking become the primary motivations, especially as players learn enemy patterns and refine how aggressively they expand their fleet. Additional modes, such as challenges that limit or recontextualize the fleet mechanic, provide alternative ways to engage with the core systems and appeal to players who want a more traditional or punishing shmup experience.
Visually, Shoot 1UP adopts a clean, retro-inspired aesthetic that prioritizes clarity above all else. With potentially dozens of ships and countless bullets on screen at once, readability is essential, and the game succeeds in keeping chaos understandable. Enemy designs and effects are functional rather than elaborate, ensuring that visual noise never interferes with moment-to-moment decision-making. The soundtrack complements this approach with energetic, arcade-style music that reinforces momentum without becoming distracting.
Local cooperative play adds another dimension to the experience, allowing two players to combine fleets and push the concept to its absurd extreme. Managing an even larger formation together amplifies both the fun and the difficulty, turning the screen into a storm of ships, lasers, and enemies that demands strong coordination. While the absence of online multiplayer limits broader competitive play, the inclusion of leaderboards and score-focused design ensures that competitive motivation remains strong for solo players.
The game’s limitations stem largely from the same focused design that makes it appealing. Players seeking extensive content, long campaigns, or deep progression systems may find Shoot 1UP brief and straightforward. Enemy variety and visual themes are serviceable rather than expansive, and once the core mechanics are mastered, the challenge becomes more about refinement than discovery. However, this is consistent with the game’s identity as an arcade shooter built for repeat play and skill improvement rather than prolonged narrative engagement.
Ultimately, Shoot 1UP stands out as a confident and inventive take on a classic genre. By reimagining how extra lives function and building an entire system around fleet management, it injects new energy into the vertical shooter formula without abandoning its roots. It is a game that rewards precision, boldness, and adaptability, offering constant tension between growth and survival. For fans of arcade shooters who appreciate clever mechanical twists and score-driven mastery, Shoot 1UP delivers a compact but highly memorable experience that proves how far a single strong idea can go when executed with clarity and purpose.

The goodness from XBLA now on Steam.
Fun shooting game. It is really easy on chilled mode. Collect 1ups and expand and contract your ships as you blow stuff up.
This is a decent game with some interesting mechanics for this type of game. I had fun with it. There were some minor frustrations with some enemies. Don't forget to use the shield as it is very powerful.
woof, it aint good
suco puro e fresco do arcade antigo.
Só compre e se divirta.

You lose ship, you get ship, you lose sheep, you get sheep...
Too many sheep!
You balance how much your ships are dispersed for stronger attack also contracting them together to avoid getting hit.
I find this kind of gameplay to be rather daunting than entertaining.

I bought this game just to blow up a fembot with nice gun tits. 8/10 wish the gun tits were completed for the full booba experience.
It's a great little game for the price, even if the art is terrible and the makes the whole thing feel a little messy. It can be quite difficult to tell what is going on because of this, and it would be infuriating if the game was difficult. Thankfully, it's incredibly easy.
Incredibly cheap and some quick fun, so worth a pop if you want to try a shmup but maybe find them a little difficult.

I am 32 years old.
My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.
Thank you.
shoot em up sıradan atari tarzı kontroller çok kötü oynanmaz
Vale a pena.
I'm not much of a SHMUP player so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but honestly not bad. I thought it was going to be more generic considering the name, but the controls are pretty tight and the visuals are unique and interesting. Also tends to end right before it begins to get really repetitive.
Music is a little repetitive, and the final boss is a bit underwhelming but outside of that, it's not bad to kill a little time on.
Short but Sweet. This one has mechanics that I don't think I've played before in a SHMUP
A game spawned from developers enamored with the idea of a SHMUP, but having no idea what it actually takes to make one. There is one fairly novel idea and the rest is flaccid, low-effort sludge. Some of the mistakes are so elementary it's insane. Floating score items can get enormous and drop in quantity, blocking out a large percentage of the screen. That's a terrible idea, but at least enemy bullets are rendered above them so they don't obscure the battlefield. However, the enemies themselves do not receive the same accommodation. Totally baffling. Don't even bother at a discount.
Short and sweet bullet heaven. Controller friendly. Overall, zen-like experience

Okay. I paid a dollar for this. And... I ALMOST asked for a refund. Almost. Not because the game is particularly bad... But because I won the normal difficulty campaign on the first try. Let me be clear. I'm NOT as young as I used to be. The only way I win most modern console games is by sheer persistence. And modern games are not as challenging as they used to be. I know what I'm talking about. I was there. So, lets just say I have no hope of ever beating a "Souls" game no matter how much I like them. So, If I'm beating this shmup in one try, even on the normal ie middle of three, difficulty. Then something is a bit shy in the challenge department. Again, I know what shmups should be like, I was there when they were invented. And, being as I cut my teeth on real arcade games I;'m guessing I've gotten my dollars worth. But keep the less than challenging nature in m,ind when purchasing. Especially of not on sale. I can not legitimately recommend this game for this one reason. BUT. If you were they type to throw 4 quarters down on 10 minutes on one game back in the day, then I suppose you could do worse. Don't spend 16 of them.
Shoot em up sympa avec de chouettes mécaniques.

Eu recomendo.
Pretty fun and short bullet hell.
This is a very interesting shmup. You control multiple ships instead of one, and each 1UP you pick up adds another ship to your armada, all shooting it's own stream of bullets and the armada formation can be expanded or contracted to spray the screen in bullets or concentrate the fire to a smaller point respectively. Furthermore, expanding the formation a bit will cause a charge up to form a powerful laser beam, great for killing large enemies and bosses quickly. Each ship also generates a ship when the shot button is not being pressed, which can explode and damage enemies. This is a risky maneuver, so doing so multiplies the rewards dropped by enemies, which is drastically increased depending on how many ships you have and how far they're spread, making the points vary from hundreds of points to potentially over a million each. If a ship is hit, it explodes on death, clearing the bullets on screen and giving you a bit of saving grace. Each stage also has an alternate path that leads to a slightly more challenging horizontal or "free range movement" section
The game has a....unique presentation. The game originally launches in a small window, which the game might look better in, but I immediately fullscreened the game and now I can no longer resize the game window down to small even in windowed mode. I mention this because the pixel art looks pretty jagged and improperly scaled (at least on my screen), so text looks pretty bad. Like alot of low budget shmups, the backgrounds are simple repeating textures, with some being very interesting like a dried up ocean floor covered in dead killer whales or some sort of weird, cyberpunk field/planet/space object housing giant naked android women.....just take a look at the Steam cover art with the smiling woman and screenshots of the stage she's from to see what i mean - its one of the strangest stages i've seen in a shmup. On some fronts, the game is kind of ugly and almost garish, but alot of that flies to the wayside once the screen is filled with bullets and you're focused on scoring and dodging.
Shoot1up is one of the few bullet hell Shmup I can recommend to non-fans of the genre because A) It's fairly easy and B) it's very short....surprisingly so. Completing the Normal and Easy modes would take less than 20 minutes mostly because your army of ships shooting bullets in nearly all directions makes the game fairly easy, as only a few enemy types have high health and only some bosses seem to have invulnerable portions and often dying in 25 seconds or less if you're shooting enough. Having dozens of ships, explosive deaths, frequent 1ups, and a stupid amount of bullets makes you very survivable, to the point of almost feeling like you're cheating, so unless you lost alot of ships in a big enemy wave or boss, you'll probably clear through the game quickly. Maybe using alternate paths and scoring opportunities would offer other stages like in some other shmups, but otherwise, if you're like myself and have too many game backlogged on Steam, you can get to the end screen pretty quickly, unless you're very bad with this genre - and I think alot of players who say they are would still be able to beat this game Normal if not at least Easy. It's probably a good thing it's very short, because while the scoring mechanics are a bit complex, the overall gameplay and content is too simple to carry the game for very long.
It's $4 on Steam and I think goes down to 1-2 on sale. It originally sold on Xbox Live for $1 to my knowledge. It's worth a purchase if you're only consider yourself "Okay" at these games and want to feel good about actually completing a bullet hell shmup with a fun, and interesting combat mechanic. For shmup fans, you'll find a cheap game that expects you to play risky for a high score.
What is the point on my pack of ships that i have to protect ?
Also, bullets from various enemies should complement themselfs about wich parts of the screen they should cross and occupy and about wich part of the screen to they should leave blanck as a "your way out" from the bullet hell .. But no.. that's not what it happens .. it's kind of a mess and doesn't seem like a well thought game.
Enemies are too obvious and you almost never wonder about wich part of the screen you have to go top escape the enemy boss..
The visual artwork is good enough. A few updates to the game should suffice to make a good game .. but i don't know if that will ever happen.
Really cool, but also really short. I beat the game in the time you see above. Granted, I was playing on the lowest difficulty level, but that gives you an idea of the amount of content you are getting here. I would still recommend it tho. This is a very cool and very unique shoot-em-up with some very interesting ideas that you won't see elsewhere. I like the fact that you have a reason to take your finger off the shoot button; Letting go of the shoot button raises your shields. There is also an option to just turn on auto shoot as well, which I think is really nice.
I do not know how this piece of crap has a very positive rating. Says it supports controller, does not support controller. Shows a picture of controller with button mappings, button mappings do nothing. Menus are ugly, looks bad even for one dollar.
What the hell...
Why I am playing this
I recommend this game to anyone that wants a simple shmup. I enjoyed my time with this one. Look up how to get peer pressure achievement though, it stumped me stupid.
Un shoot em up raro...
...con un gameplay que "difiere" del montón.
>A Grandes Rasgos:

Got this on sale for a few bucks, not like it needed a sale but it did bring the game to my attention. I love shoot em ups and this is no different. I've finished it twice but I don't think I'll be back though. I did enjoy every minute, though.
Shoot 1UP is a Bullet Hell with an interesting gimmick.
I think this game's biggest selling point, is that Shoot 1up is way more forgiving compared to most bullet hells, since you can collect up to 30 ships, it means you can get hit that many times before having to restart the level, not to mention you can use your shield to attack and delete incoming proyectiles.
If you find games like Ikaruga or the Touhou series way too hard, you can play this games to ease you into the genre.
Vertical shooter with a fantasy space theme. Interesting powerup system where you collect ships to get stronger and sacrifice them for protection. Nice graphics and decent sound. Original concept.

Shoot 1UP is a short simple and good Arcade Shoot 'Em Up, so the story. The world is being invaded by aliens it's up to you to stop it.
All right the likes, the gameplay is very fun and hard but fair, with nice combat and I love the idea that when you pick up a life up that it adds a ship that fights with you and if you get enough you have a squadron.
The graphics art style is very good with nice backgrounds and great enemy designs. The enemies and bosses in the game are very good with great designs, especially the bosses each one has their own unique look, my favorite happens to be the boss from level five, it’s very weird. The music in the game is very good that has nice tracks to listen too, and the price for the game is good.
All right the dislikes; the only dislike about this game is the fact that it's very short you can probably beat it in less than an hour.
Now Shoot 1UP is a short simple and good Arcade Shoot 'Em Up, with a very fun gameplay, very good graphics art style and very good enemies and bosses. So if you're looking for a good shoot-'em-up this is a good game to get.
The negative reviews are not wrong. Yes, there's not much content, but it's also cheap. Yes, sometimes it's confusing, but it also has a unique mechanic that is worth trying once. I go with a positive instead of a negative because it feels like a competent classic shooter, while other indie games don't.
还可以
Pretty good. I like it! Play it!
It's alright.
💘 Chuck Norris Aprova esse Jogo! 💘

good and cheap
cool
Finished the game under 15 mins...
GFX are bad, i expected more from this game!

A short, but very competent shmup with cool enemy ships, great backdrops that are unique and detailed.
Also "Each 1UP is a new ship in your squadron" which give general firepower, upgrade your squadron after every five, if one destroyed it causes and explosion that protects the others, and there's also a shield mechanism. Add the fact that you can spread out your ships to use their individual firepower with an extra supercannon, or collapse them into one for better manoeuvrability.. and you also have a break button to help in that.
I'm not one of the people who chase highscores in games, but I think this game's tight controls and varied mechanics give quite a challenge getting the best score for people who play shmups for that.
Really enjoying this. Casual as hell.

TLDR: Bullets and ships come from all directions. You control a group of ships. The wave and bullet patterns are chaotic and lacks elegance. Pixelated and blurry. Repetitive.

between this one and crimson clover.... You are set for bullet hells

There's a beached whale graveyard level in this game. If that doesn't sell you on it, what's wrong with you?
Okay, technically, orcas are a species of dolphin, not whale. But still. It's awesome.
Most bullet hell shmups lack a compelling dynamic. The entire game is "navigate your tiny hitbox through a ludicrous sea of bullets." Not that that's bad but it's nice to have something to interesting added to the mix. Ikaruga did a good job of that with its duality mechanic. This game does a good job with its expand/contract mechanic.
As you accumulate ships in your little fleet, you're going to want to expand them so they sprawl across the screen. The reason is because it generates a massive, powerful stream of bullets that makes you more than just a sum of your ships. The catch: You're also covering more screen space and risk getting thrashed by the bullet hell quicker. It's a fun trade-off to miix-up the otherwise rote "just git gud" aspect of bullet hell shmups.
Complaints:
- I thought the Normal mode was too easy but the difficulty spikes _way_ up there for the Serious mode.
- The scrolling background repeats a little too much. It would be nice to get more variety.
- The game's pretty short
For the price I paid (on sale for $6 in some bundle), this game is well worth the money.
AWESOME!
DISCLAIMER: This is a first impressions review, and NOT a full review
Shoot 1UP is a game developed and published by Mommy's Best Games
The game offers some pleasant graphics and really vibrant colours, although some ugly glitches here and there, it is pleasant all the same
The game does suffer with some repetitiveness at certain areas of the game but a fun game nontheless
The game also suffers with some weird bugs and glitches which the developer seemed to have overlooked but they don't hinder the game at all
Shoot 1UP overall, however, is a fun game to play in short bursts!
RECOMMENDED :)
Skeezy little-boy-baiting boobguns and nudie cuties aside, the central conceit is elegant and fun. Every 1up is a clone that spawns and starts shooting alongside you, meaning that it also doubles as a gun upgrade. You then control the formation that your cloud of ships flies in, with a tight formation shooting a huge beam but being more susceptible to getting bulldozed and losing a huge chunk of lives, and a loose formation shooting a ton of bullets but being harder to maneuver through the fields of opposing bullets. I mean, this is obviously a cool game. I'm just qualifying a thumbs-up here.
Good Bullet Hell Shooter. For fans of the genre.

Respeito o esforço do desenvolvedor. Infelizmente.
The controls are competent. The sound effects are fine. It's just very boring. The enemies are pixelated vomit. Very limited on animations. After 5 minutes you've seen everything the game has to offer. Then it loops.
Solid shmup with branching paths, multiple difficulties and huge bosses. Its improved from the original XBLIG version too. The idea of multiple ships all at once sounded gimmicky at first but after playing it's surprisingly deep and fun to play. Hopefully the expand on this and make some sequels!
Received this as a gift. Killer whale carcasses littering the background battlefield... what more can you say? Fun top down shoot em up with a good background soundtrack. Doesn't take too long to beat and the replay value seems a bit limited. It feels a bit more forgiving than other games in the genre because of the 1up collection. Lots of variety in the enemies and some weirdness thrown in to keep it interesting. Path selection is pretty limited but can add a bit of challenge. I enjoyed it and would recommend if you can pick it up on sale.
Very dull. One nice idea that's worth about 30 seconds of playing around, but then there's nothing to this game.
Also: locked to very very very low resolution (requires a 14" low-res monitor. Lazy developer :( )
Pretty alright game. Short and not too hard, beat it on the hardest difficulty on my first try in about 20 minutes. The gimmick of flying multiple ships is kind of wasted though because the screen is not large enough. Bullets and enemies fill the screen and there is very little space for you to move without getting hit, so most of the time you have to keep the ships all bunched up to avoid getting hit, and this way they behave like an ordinary single ship. It's kind of halfway between a "arcadey" type schmup and a bullet hell, and it probably would be more fun if there were less bullets to hit you and more enemies to blow up. If you spread out you get a more powerful weapon and a score multiplier, but I didn't see much point because I would just lose ships. For an arcadey type schmup it's not as good as, say, Tyrian, and for a bullet hell it's not as good as Touhou. Still, it's alright.
Honestly, I didn't care for this game at first. Sure, I liked the backgrounds and music; however, I just couldn't really get into it. I figured this was poor man's shmup, whatever that means. Well, I kept going and found it to be fairly pleasant. I enjoyed the bosses, the phalanx system was superb, and Score Trek is addictive! If you are a fan of shmups, please give this a shot.
Note that most positive reviews are under 10 minutes of total play time. The one that are more are exactly in the card farming window. Do the math.
You don't need me to explain the mechanics, they are visible in the game videos/description, etc. I'll just say that what they tried fell completely flat, and is not a pleasurable mechanic to play. I find it incredibly confusing, muddled and frustrating to play. Half the time I win by just crashing my ships to set the bomb off, because I really have no idea WTF is going on. The concept of having a phalanx of ships and the expand/shrink mechanic with the auger shot is a neat concept but the execution is atrocious, especially since the game playfield is so incredibly cramped with gigantic player/enemy sprites.
Nothing about this game invites a 2nd play though but I've kept at it in the hopes I would eventually "get it". This is not going to happen. I've hidden and un-hidden this game once, and once I farm the cards it will be permanently hidden.
If you are still curious, and the game can be found for $0.50 then go for it, because that's exactly how many quarters you'd put into this game if it were an arcade cabinet at the airport, before you walked away shaking your head.
dont pay more then 1.50$, its an ok game, it just feels kinda cheap.
Ptit jeu cool.
This game is an absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trip. It seems like standard bullet hell at first, but quickly proved me wrong. You control many ships at once, and can bring to one singular point, or spread them out to cover more distance with your shots. Unique ideas and very well executed. It lacks a certain level of polish you see in games like Ikaruga, and Xceed though. All in all, very short, and worth 2 bucks
fun shmup worth a couple bucks. i paid 50 cents. beat it on my first go round with 2 lives left. definitely a unique gimmick and worth checking out if you like shmups.
Once again, I wish there was a "meh" button or a rating instead of just "yes/no" on if you want to recommend a game.
Anyway...
Very nice idea very well implemented.
Simple controls that are very easy to learn.
Very high replayability.
Good price, even better when on sale.
One major negative: Naked people in the background and as the main boss.
Seriously?
