The Sherlock Holmes series returns with this updated version of The Awakened, which brings a whole new dimension to the original title developed by Frogwares. Keeping with the traditional Point & Click gameplay style of the original adventure games, The Awakened has been totally rethought, offering players a new third-person view while keeping the original first-person view available also.

Storyline

The game puts the player into an investigation of the myth of Cthulhu - as imagined by author H.P. Lovecraft. Sherlock Holmes, assisted by the loyal Doctor Watson, investigates strange disappearances which seem related to the activity of a secret sect. The adventure begins in London, in the renowned Baker Street, taking us to investigate a disturbing psychiatric hospital near Bale, Switzerland, on to Louisiana and finally to Scotland.

08年的游戏，画质还算不错。就是跟开膛手那一作一样，不支持手柄操作，只能用键鼠，第三人称又不能转动视角，只有在第一人称下可以，但是用键盘操作，跑起来的时候又会触发中文输入法，很让人抓狂，最好是把这个键位改掉，或者直接锁定跑动。这一作教程比较少，没有玩过后面几代的话会不太好上手。居然还有自带的Strategic guide，还挺详细的，不过碰到不知道怎么推进的地方还是直接查攻略方便。找线索的时候，在仔细观察的界面没有提示了，只能靠自己找，有时候乱点半天都找不到，只能去查攻略。

这一代还挺多室外地图的，能自由行动的区域感觉比后面几作还大一些，最后两章还有一些比较cult的场景。还有白天的街景，看着挺舒服的，但是自然风景就比较粗糙了，不过这么老的游戏，要求不要太高。甚至还有一些小动物！后面几作反而没有了。小地图可以传送，可以节省一些跑路时间，不然转来转去实在是头晕。

Купуючи цю гру ви повинні розуміти такі речі:
1) Гра 2008 року, тому графіка, модельки персонажів і таке інше відповідають року виходу.
Тобто, якщо ви хочете пограти саме в старі версії Шерлока не дивлячись на такі моменти - то з цим проблем не буде. Я, наприклад, хотів пограти саме в таке і не звертав уваги.
2) Єдине зло з яким ви зіткнетесь - це виконати вимоги гри(скріпту), щоб просунутись по сюжету місії.

Much better entry than the previous games and much, much more entertaining than imaginary “duel of wits” with Arsen Lupin. In fact, this game is closest to being graded actually good (and my standards for such old titles are set accordingly). This time however I’m going to write longer review (that inevitably will be rewritten to be shorter, drier and more concise in a couple months).

Technically speaking game works and has third-person and first-person cameras. Quality of graphics is on par with early 2000s titles. Holmes and Watson act close enough to their literary counterparts. In theory, players can finish entire game in a couple hours, unless they’re stuck on something or find mismatch between guides and game items or action sequences. Rather good improvement conpared to other titles in series...

There are enough drawbacks too and while some are subjective, others are objective. For example oddly nauseating movement animation in first-person (no idea why to be honest) don’t make it the most enjoyable experience either, but may be fine otherwise. Gigantic almost empty environments requiring backtracking or investigation sequences where bets “research” tactic is random clicking are not that bad either (beats dungeons where you have to go back the same way you came in, literally).

Instead of asking how to solve this puzzle and progress further, more frequent line of questioning was that of spending time on the game at all. Instead of feeling like uncovering a mystery that may or may not be actually important in-universe, this turns into an exercise in tedium where one part is too easy, another too hard and the third makes you ask “what the F is that and why???”

You know what? I’m going to do the funny thing – recommend this title. Not that bad all things considered. Don’t wanna play anymore though.

great game if you can get past the poor controls, it will try your paitence when you want to walk somewhere and it wont match up with your mouse, but other than that, I really enjoyed the game.

Das ist definitiv der schlechteste Teil der Reihe, den ich bisher gespielt habe. Die Rätsel sind teilweise undurchsichtig, bei Eingaben wird zwar ein ä auf der Bildschirmtastatur angeboten, man muss aber trotzdem ae schreiben. Die Story selbst ist... gut gemeint vielleicht, aber irgendwie nichts halbes und nichts ganzes. Spielt lieber Nemesis oder vs. Jack the Ripper.
