Worth every dime you pay for it.
Very fun story that just want you to keep going on.
Please give me more Shakedown!
This game is similar to the classic Grand Theft Auto titles, the real old ones that were in 2D. With an atmosphere reminiscent of GTA Vice City. There are lots of properties to buy in it. A rather fun game.
so retro
WHATS THIS IM HEARING ABOUT GOOD GAMES SELLING MILLIONS!? INVEST IN THIS RIGHT NOW!

mini GTA
Great Satirical Pixel game that combines all sorts of (mini)games into one. Lots of variation too!
Ok.
This game has a lot of different mechanics. At times it can feel a bit disjointed. The core premise of buying real estate and taking overing the island is quite fun, yet, it kind of goes against the concept of doing a "Shakedown". The game is quiet funny and it makes fun of a lot of pop culture, tv, etc. I wish there were more games like this.

All hail the CEO
I liked this game. For a retro city rampage DX successor, it offers hours of fun. Unlike their previous game, I managed to 100% this game, so it feels a little easier. But overall, it's a good open world 2D GTA clone. The price though is a little steep. I would actually buy this on off sale.
Grand Theft Auto Vice City - если бы выходила для SEGA MegaDrive
This is genuinely a fun time, it's very reminiscent of the older Grand Theft Auto games that were top down. The story is a lot of fun and so is the side content. If I had any complaint at all, it would be that the police don't seem to care about other crime unless its you. There are times where gang members and in a mission, the literal cartel, are attacking you and the police just let it happen. I was being chased and shot right in front of a cop and nothing, even after you buy the police station. Its a minor thing but I couldn't stop thinking about it and it was kind of funny where if I hit a civilian, the cops are there. I'm being gunned down in the streets, not a second glance. I definitely recommend the game.
Hello friends,
Today I will review the game Shakedown Hawaii. This is a retro game based on older grand theft auto games. This is also the same company that made Retro City Rampage, which is also a excellent game. Both games use retro type graphics to show off the game. So if a player wants to avoid games with low graphics quality, this is one of those games, but the game is quite fun. The best way to describe it would be mindless fun.
This game features three characters, working together to make a washed-up business man to try to get his company successful. Many of the methods the main character does to gain money are real life shortcuts in cutting costs in real companies. For example, making smaller items with less product in, lying about what is actually in the product. This is a satire of real life business practices shown in a retro game. The three characters are not available from the beginning of the game, but can be used later in the game at certain points.
The players have access to many weapons, which can be purchased at the gun shops in the game. There are even hidden shops players can buy special items and things. This includes different colored clothing, hairstyles, and car paints. Finding some of these stores are a bit hard, but the map does help with icons players can turn on to find specific ones. Make sure to find the veterinarian shops when you can. They sell some really good things.
PROS:
- A retro game based on grand theft auto games.
- Many story missions and side quests. Some of the quests are quite funny.
- There are other options to even play the game. For example, able to play story mode, challenge mode, and free open world mode.
- Many options to fine tune the game. For example, the ability to turn off certain icons on the map so they do not cover up things players are looking for.
- There are even hidden things. Someone wrote a guide about it if you need to find them.
CONS:
- The retro graphic quality might not be everyone's favorite style of graphics fidelity.
- Do not expect a very long game. Even after trying to find all the collectibles, the game is not very long.
Do i recommend this game? It is fun to play, so yea. If you want a silly story, mindless killing, and searching for items in a city that is like Hawaii, then yes, this game can be fun. The retro graphic style might not be everyone's favorite style, but it did not bother me. The fact the game uses a gta style of gameplay, with a similar graphic fidelity to me makes it even more fun. The simplicity of going around killing enemies and collecting money makes players forget the overly complicated newer games.
Scissors
I would definitely recommend this game.
It's fun, weird, and ultimately forgiving if you fail missions.
The graphics are retro, the feel is funny and the controls are decent.
All in all, a very enjoyable if a bit too short of a game. Loved it!
I finished Retro City Rampage, and was so stoked to jump into this game. The dev has the same pacing issues of RCR, and rather than a love letter to the era, it's just a mind numbingly exhausting critique of capitalism and the industry. I am open to critique, but the game just whined about everything all the time and I honestly just got bummed out more and more as I played it.
Kaliteli.
Perfect little game well worth the money
This game f u c k s!
2D GTA vice city with corporate mechanics.
It's pretty good just like the previous game Retro City Rampage.
However they should really need to add an option to finish challenges manually instead of waiting the timer to run out.
This is *the* GTA 2-based open world crime exploration jump and run and gun business mogul / boomer simulator you have naturally always wanted!
Gud
The game does not have mutch to offer.
It gets boring after shaking down every shop, the story is alright, but I did not follow.
And it is not satisfying when you beat up civilians.
I would also critisize about the prise of this game, but it is better than what nintendo is smoking.
It is how I experienced it, but check other reviews if you are sure that you want this or not.
Just like Stardew Valley but in a city.
its a little throwback to the old gta's, yeah the first ones before it went 3d, just better in a lot of regards. deff had a fun time with it, and the musics nice too.
Massa.
Oh the Vita days... holds up pretty well if u just want arcade fun
cool
Amazing 100/10
crashes a lot in arcade challenges
Shakedown: Hawaii is a game that fully embraces the outrageousness of open-world crime satire while presenting it through the lens of nostalgic pixel art. Developed and published by Vblank Entertainment, it plays like a spiritual successor to the studio’s earlier retro-inspired urban sandbox work, taking the fast, chaotic top-down formula and applying it to a world fueled by corporate greed, dying business models, and shameless profiteering. Instead of centering on street-level criminals climbing the underworld ladder, the game focuses on a washed-up CEO desperately trying to modernize and salvage his crumbling empire. This shift in protagonist instantly gives the narrative a personality of its own, turning the usual rise-to-power arc into a ruthless—and often hilarious—critique of capitalism, consumer culture, and the absurdity of modern business tactics.
The gameplay is built around two core pillars: arcade-style action and economic domination. The action side delivers classic top-down chaos—high-speed car thefts, shootouts, explosions, reckless driving, and spontaneous destruction. Controls are responsive, combat feels punchy, and the world encourages improvisation, making even small skirmishes entertaining. Missions often escalate quickly, sending players across the island to intimidate competitors, sabotage rival businesses, tamper with advertisements, or strong-arm reluctant shop owners into compliance. The humor in these objectives leans intentionally exaggerated, taking inspiration from media sensationalism and the ridiculousness of corporate PR disasters. While the structure of missions can repeat familiar patterns, the absurd framing keeps them entertaining enough to sustain momentum.
The second pillar—the business and property acquisition system—adds a compelling layer of strategy. Nearly every storefront, gas station, apartment complex, and tourist trap on the island can be purchased, upgraded, or exploited to generate income. Watching daily revenue climb as your influence spreads provides a satisfying feedback loop, and experimenting with different upgrades can subtly shape your financial empire. Eventually, passive income begins to dwarf mission rewards, reinforcing the game’s commentary on how wealth perpetuates itself. The city becomes a playground of opportunity, and acquiring properties starts to feel like its own game-within-a-game, pushing players to explore every corner of the map.
Presentation plays a major role in the game’s appeal. The pixel art is richly detailed, colorful, and animated with an energy that elevates the setting. Vehicles burst into flames dramatically, storefronts have character, and the island feels like a living parody of tropical urban development. Cutscenes are expressive and comedic, leaning on exaggerated facial expressions and punchy writing to deliver jokes efficiently. The soundtrack bolsters the retro aesthetic—catchy, upbeat, and rhythmic without distracting from the action. Together, the visuals and audio create a world that feels nostalgic yet modern, bridging retro sensibilities with contemporary humor and pacing.
As entertaining as it is, Shakedown: Hawaii does have limitations. Once the empire-building aspect hits a certain threshold and income floods in, the sense of struggle or progression fades. Wealth becomes so overwhelming that buying properties or upgrades loses meaning, and the economic system transitions from engaging management to routine button-pressing. The mission structure, while humorous, can become repetitive as objectives begin to blend into one another. The satire—sharp early on—occasionally slips into predictability, relying on similar comedic beats rather than surprising new angles. None of these issues undermine the core fun, but they reduce long-term tension and challenge.
Even with these shortcomings, the game succeeds because it remains consistently entertaining and self-aware. It doesn’t overstay its welcome, and it never forgets that its primary job is to make the player have fun. The combination of explosive arcade action, tongue-in-cheek storytelling, and light economic strategy creates a distinctive identity rarely seen in modern open-world games. It’s approachable enough for casual players yet layered enough to keep completionists invested, especially those eager to unlock map coverage or push daily revenue into absurd numbers.
Shakedown: Hawaii ultimately works as both homage and satire—celebrating the chaotic joy of retro crime sandboxes while skewering real-world business practices with exaggerated delight. It’s unapologetically silly, stylishly presented, and confident in its vision. Players who enjoy fast-paced open-world mayhem, humorous writing, and accessible empire-building will find a lot to appreciate. It may not revolutionize the genre, but it delivers an experience full of charm, personality, and memorable moments, leaving the impression of a game that knows exactly what it wants to be—and achieves it with gleeful abandon.
Rating: 8/10
Pixel GTA. It`s fun to play actually.
GTA + Hotline Miami + Investing Simulator = Profit
Nice arcadey feel. I got this on sale for $3.26 and it's great. The story is hilarious and seems to progress quickly.
It's a nice change from what I usually play. 10/10 pixelated fun.
Hotline Miami and classic GTA had a baby and it kicks ass.
Gooodddd shiiiiiiiii
fun little GTA 1/2 style game for a few hours
A fun enough time, but I'd only get it during a sale as it is always at a steep discount. The movement and combat have a fun and unique flow to it. Too bad there isn't any real challenge to utilize it in until the final few missions. It feels like they spent too much time making stale jokes making fun of scummy business moves than the actual mission structure. If they had more tightly made levels like the final few that really utilize the platforming and shooting, I think this game would be more memorable for me. Instead it is a game I had an alright time with but will forget about in the coming days.
o jogo é bem interessante
jogo muito bom vale super apena
peak
Recomendo e fortemente.
The game is alright I guess, very similar to Retro City Rampage but that is to be expected given it is from the same developer.
Unlike RCR though, it parodies modern day marketing schemes and means of making profit. There is still some satire on modern gaming which is quite accurate and likely will be for a long while.
The spritework is really pretty and smooth with a lot of environment being destructible and many areas to freely explore in free-roam.
Though there is a big con of the game unlocking itself for you too soon, normally it'd be fine as it'd leave the player to explore and think around the systems but there are entire missions based on guiding the player on how to do a specific feature, unfortunately it seems that it's intended since it acts as a set up for a lot of the jokes from within said missions.
There is also no way to skip time to generate money faster so you basically must find something to do to pass the time, buy properties and then generate more money.
It'd probably do better if it weren't an Epic Games Exclusive but then again I doubt many people would buy a retro-styled game this many years later.
Donald Trump Simulator
I was sitting around wanting to play some GTA2 a couple weeks ago and that's when I remembered I had Shakedown Hawaii, although I thought it was called Shakedown Miami at the time. This was such a great game, so creative and funny. I was really impressed with everything.
The controls were great, I was able to choose between two car control types, so I went with the better one where you turn left and right rather than drive towards the stick tilt direction. The car handling was pretty good, for a while I was having trouble but after a while I realized I was actually in x2 zoom, so I switched it to 1x zoom and was good to go. On foot everything controls great as well, I played the whole game using an Xbox style controller using my steamlink hooked up to my 65 inch TV. It ran perfectly and looked great on there.
This music is awesome too and fits the game so well, especially because of how the music changes with scenes and based on what's happening as well as having a nice driving soundtrack you can switch between.
The graphics are some of the best pixel art I've ever seen, and there is so much. The cutscenes are so good and the character designs are absolutely perfect. Some of the sleaziest looking people you've ever seen in your life. I love it so much. (My favorite movie is Street Trash from 1987). I love how sleazy and scummy the main characters are, but especially the old man. OMG he's the best.
The entire game took my 13.3 or so hours with minimal screwing around. I did some car returns, some coffee upgrade missions, B&E's and selling vanloads of loot, etc. All in all, the game length feels great. I was having lots of fun for most of the time, although towards the end, perhaps around mission 100 out of 115, it was getting a bit tedius or repetetive. To make up for this, the developer seems to have cranked up the difficulty of the last few missions and thankfully so as it sort of brought some of the excitement that had slightly faded. I wouldn't really want the game to go on more than it did, so the game length is very good and feels right.
I would love for there to be a sequel, but I don't think it would be possible since there is so much here already. So much creativity went in and lots of thinking as to what scummy businesses do that I think everything was mentioned, so there really isn't much left to make a sequel about. Maybe a DLC add-on at most? It really doesn't need it though.
When playing I found that even though it was fun, it is best enjoyed in 45 minute or so game sessions. There is something about the way the cutscenes go that seems to quickly tire me out. I don't know if it's the way they cut to and from things, or maybe it's the reading on the top and then the bottom of the screen, whatever it is, it makes me want to step away after close to an hour. That said, I always want to come back soon after, and now that it is over I kind of miss it.
I would give this one a 9 out of 10. It's fantastic. Very well done. I am so glad to have played it and beaten it.
🔥🌴
Nettes Retro Game a la GTA...tolle Story, tolle lustige Dialoge. Aber abseits der Missionen ist dann Schluss.
Huh, didn't know Monsanto was the company that inspired that one mission in this game. Good to know.
This ♥♥♥♥♥ is mad about late stage capitalism and also a monster. Good for him!
Great game.
This is crazy addictive!
What GTA used to be.
bacana porém muito repetitivo
What a highly sympathetic protagonist.
realy good game
Однозначно must have
if this released a year after GTA it'd be groundbreaking.
As it is, a lot of fun on the steam deck.
Think GTA but with strategy. You buy and take over property. It's pretty fun.
This is a fun GTA-like that you will replay several times because the money going up produces dopamine.
I will likely beat this game a third time this year. Mild replayability.
Played on Steam Deck
Great gameplay and story
Play like GTA, with the ability to destroy some buildings.
Drive through trees and fences, people and other cars.
Going to keep an eye for thier next game :)
*Tried it once on PC, locked to 60 fps, didnt feel too bad.
But I bought it for Steam deck and I like it more on a small screen on the go then my Pc
Overall, pretty good game for the most part. Yet another open-world isometric crime sandbox in the same vein as this studio's previous work "Retro City Rampage". Fun gameplay, and plenty of mayhem to cause. That said, story was somewhat abrupt in it's ending and I found the inclusion of three protagonists somewhat unnecessary. I'd recommend getting this if you're looking for an alright open-world game that isn't demanding specs and time wise.
Highly recommended, but lacks the varietous tv simulation modes of its predecessor Retro City Rampage DX. Would have wanted to play this game in 4:3 resolution but there is no such option, still a highly enjoyable experience regardless.
Great game to blast through and 100%, runs really well on steamdeck too
Bu oyunu Gta 2'nin hafif açısı düşürülmüş kuş bakışı kamerasıyla, piksel grafikleriyle, retro temasıyla ve boyut kazandırılmış işlemeleriyle oynadığınız versiyonu gibi düşünebilirsiniz.
Güzel, boş olmayan, renkli ve güzel işlenmiş açık dünyasında özgürce hareket edebildiğiniz bu suç simülasyonu oyun; çok çeşitli silahlar, easter eggler, bombalar, patlamalar, sabotajlar, suikastler ve çatışmalarla dolu.
İçinizdeki psikopatı dışarı atabileceğiniz bir arınma aracı...
Öneriyorum. Çok güzel oyun.
A hidden gem. If you're a fan of the old GTA games with the top down view with a Sega Megadrive era aesthetic then you should feel at home with Shakedown Hawaii. Superb soundtrack, responsive controls and a captivating story make Shakedown Hawaii a must buy.
Pixelated GTA without Rockstar's BS, what's not to like?
Runs great on SteamDeck
love this game, its makes me laugh almost every time i play it. (:
Played this game today and I got motion sickness.
10/10
Shakedown: Hawaii is a vibrant, chaotic old-school GTA clone where you slowly take control over a Hawaiian island until you rule it with an iron fist. Crime pays in this title as you stomp out rival gangs and cops, blow sh*t up and make tonnes of money. Challenging in parts, this is an engaging and thrilling crime-romp worth your attention. It works wonderfully on the Steam Deck, too.
Precisa de um modo multiplayer urgentemente!!!
The gameplay is fun however the game suffers from terrible input lag. The input lag both causes an already released key to continue to fire as well as blocks other key presses from triggering.
Now imagine jump challenges where precision jumping is required but you have to press the key between 0.5 and a second early. Or gunfights where you want to change direction to dodge bullets just to continue to run into them.
Basically it kills any enjoyment of the otherwise good gameplay and funny story.
A masterpiece. I'm speechless. Could be better advertised (spread awareness by sheer gameplay & nostalgia for devs to be well off ;)
Una gran secuela
OG GTA Inspired Action with A Lot of Extra Flavor
Excellent Retro/1980's aesthetic and theming. Building up your business via takeovers and purchases is very rewarding and has a great sense of progression. The game is exploding with flavor with its corporate humor and characters. The art (Likely due to the influential hand of Henk Nieborg) and music are exceptionally good throughout the entire game and are a positive standout.
Despite being an Open world it is a manageable and relatively small island. I think this is great because too often open worlds are these giant lands mostly devoid of anything interesting. Shakedown takes the opposite approach because the area is condensed and packed with interest so there is a lot less wasted world space.
Mini-challenges with score leaderboards are built into the world. Such a great idea doing this adding that little extra push to go for a better attempt even after you grabbed the gold medal condition.
However, not every aspect is a home run. Car control/physics are a weak point. They are usable but its not like GTA 1& 2 where that is a large focus of the gameplay. Also the economic balance can get a little lopsided depending on how you approached the story game. About 60% to completion I was swimming in cash and didn't really have to pay attention to any costs but I had a ton of mission still left to do.
Overall this is a really solid game in a genre does not get a lot of attention. Highly recommended.
★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ 5,5/10🌟
6.4/10
16-Bit Retro City Rampage from what I can tell visually. I haven't played Retro City Rampage but I can't imagine it being that much different game-play wise. Mindless fun, missions aren't that challenging and it's fun to just try and buy everything(business's, buildings, etc.) Not a lot of replay value, unless you just like seeing how long you can run from cops without getting busted.
If only they had story writers this good in GTA
The follower to Retro City Rampage. Really liked the humour & the music in this one, although the gameplay was nothing special and the missions didn't seem so varied like in the first one.
Works great in the Deck.
🌴💥 Shakedown: Hawaii – A Glorious, Retro-Fueled Capitalist Rampage 💥🌴
If you ever dreamed of what it would feel like to play a game that somehow escaped the gravitational pull of the Amiga 1200 and crash-landed into your modern PC, Shakedown: Hawaii is that pixelated fever dream made real.
Right out the gate, this game oozes vintage vibes, like someone mashed together the chaotic charm of Cannon Fodder with the quirky puzzle-platforming of Benefactor. The result? A top-down, open-world sandbox that's as nostalgic as it is hilariously satirical.
🎶 And the music—oh wow, the music! It's like the Sega Mega Drive's sound chip came out of retirement, drank an energy drink, and decided to party like it's 1992. You've got the classic distorted screams, ear-screeching chimes, and basslines that hit harder than your childhood memories of blowing into cartridges. It's aggressive, loud, and oddly beautiful—in the best way possible.
But beneath all the explosions, neon signs, and business takeovers is a story that’s genuinely biting social commentary. Shakedown: Hawaii isn’t just poking fun at modern gaming—it’s full-on roasting it over a corporate-branded open flame. Subscriptions, microtransactions, DLC fatigue—it’s all here, reflected through the lens of a washed-up CEO trying to reclaim relevance by monetizing everything in sight, including people’s actual lives.
It’s not just funny—it’s shockingly on-point. This game holds up a mirror to the current digital landscape and says: “Hey! Remember when we actually owned things?” It’s a pixelated war cry against consumerism run amok, and it's wrapped in pure arcade bliss.
🔥 Whether you're commandeering businesses, shaking down the unsuspecting, or simply basking in the 16-bit glow of nostalgic rebellion, Shakedown: Hawaii is a riotous good time with a brain behind the bullets.
10/10 – A capitalist critique wrapped in chaos and chiptunes. Long live the Amiga spirit! 🕹️💸
It is really funny, and plays really well, at least with controller. I haven't tried to see how it plays with keyboard. I really enjoyed retro city rampage too, and this is clearly more of the same, which is a good thing in this case. I just wish this game also got a full dos port lol
Shakedown Hawaii is a hidden gem. Classic isometric GTA style gameplay that's done really well, although the controls are a bit awkward. The gameplay is varied, lots of mini-games, property management, extortion, platform levelling. There is just a lot crammed in to this little game. It's got a great sense of humour, dripping with satire playing off of today's hyper-capitalist world. The pixel art is top-notch. Really enjoyed this one.
Such a sick game. The art is great, the gameplay is great, the story is funny af. Would recommend to anyone, really.
Small but enjoyable game. Good for one time playthrough.
Maybe not the GTA style game I expected from the trailer, but the story was funny and I had a great time.
Played till 100% completion even when the last achievements were a bit tedious as you'll have finished the story far before buying all locations.
Positivos
-Muito Facil De Jogar
-Muita Coisa Pra Fazer Quando Zerar Tipo Compra As Casas
-E as Missaoes Nao Sao Muito Deficil Nao Comparado Ao Retro City
-A Historia E Meio Curta Ja Zerei Ele EM Menos de 8H De Game E Ainda Platinei Ele
=Negativos=
-Sinti A Falta De Codigos Esplhado Pelo Mapa Para Usar
Ta minhas Sugestao Mais Espero Que Voce goste do game
Like GTA classic!
Just not feeling it.
Loved everythin about this game, what hooked me the most is the music tho:
Words ain't enough to express my love for the whole soundtrack, it's just banger after banger. The game itself is fun too, it's a GTA 2 clone and the shootin and the whole story is a fun criticism to today's Globo corporations and their shady schemes, most of the time very exaggerated, but true in most cases.
For 3 Bucks i'd say it's hella worth it.
Nota: 4/10
WOW! This game is an insanely underrated gem. Very very fun open world exploration, basically an open world snes game with a very funny script. Beautiful artwork where everything is constantly moving or swaying creating a wonderful sense of atmosphere. I hope if they create a sequel the art style would be closer to an arcade game like battletoads rather than a snes game. That would be a mindblowing world to wander around. And on sale it is an absolute steal.
