Second Sight was a good game for me to play on the Playstation, and I didn't mind playing it again on PC. The story is a good one, and the gameplay is not hard to get accustomed to - its tricky to work between gun fights and physic skills, but its still an enjoyable game. Although it has age, and the graphics are not as fine these days, it's still a good game to play.

Шикарный сюжет, солидный геймплей.
Конечно, игра может показаться перегруженной механиками, но, как по мне, в большинстве случаев все доступные способности ГГ используются вполне равномерно на каждом уровне.
Слабой стороной тут явно является стрельба и саундтрек. Пользоваться телекинезом гораздо удобнее и веселее, чем использовать оружие.
Некоторые жалуются на то, что порт плохо оптимизирован, однако я не столкнулся с какими-либо техническими проблемами, поэтому не могу прокомментировать это.
Довольно печально, что игра не смогла схватить звёзд с неба и стать более известной, но сейчас это уже не так важно.

If you want to use a controller, I’d recommend doing what I did and installing a PS2 emulator with a widescreen patch and a 60 FPS patch. The game is very enjoyable, though.

Definitely a cult classic that deserves to be as highly regarded as it is. While the steam controls aren't the best translated and no controller compatibility for a game released first on console is insane to me the story is still really good, especially for a game made in 2005. If you can look past clunky and dated controls this is a fun stealth action game that really takes a lot from series like splinter cell and MGS and puts its own twist on it with the use of psychic powers. The ending really catches you off guard and you can easily get attached to Vattic, Wilde, and the rest of WinterICE. I still find it hilarious that the guy who doesn't believe in psychics gets psychic powers and now has to deal with being the main character and the only hope for the Marine Corps. I love how you can play it your own way, whether it's though killing everyone on sight or being stealthy for most of the game. however I say most cause of how much enemies is thrown at you left and right. This game REALLY punishes you for getting caught and is another case of FAFO. Overall great game but one I'd still rather play on the original consoles than through PC.

A super fun little action-adventure title! I played this game as a kid back when it came out, and it's much easier to play as a adult with critical thinking skills lol. It definitely plays like it was made in the early 2000's, but not in a bad way. The combat and stealth are passable, though can be frustrating at times. The story is pretty well presented, and kept me engaged through the entire playthrough. Do know it's pretty short if you're halfway decent action games, still fun nonetheless.

I played it back in the day on playstation 2 and had a blast. Found it here recently and bought it on pc. The controls are too junky and unresponsive, mouse controls will have you constantly focusing the wrong way when facing and object thus turning your back on enemies. Unsupported community controler gameplay was better but you have to memorize what keyboard key is connected to what controler button and I've had issues with simple tasks like moving around corners while in cover or switching targets and shooting with bad sensitivity. You are using cover, if you use your movement pad the character peeks behind cover, if you use it at another imaginary milimeter angle further he will follow the wall and walk around the corner while still in cover. It took me half a dozen tries for the character to do that on a sneaking tutorial. I gave up mid-tutorial when the same mechanic was implimented during shooting tutorials that will become of use later in the game. The resolution has not been updated to support newer ones, I have constant object and texture flickering and visual bugs. I liked the original game, but this port is a mess and not how the game was meant to be played.

Second Sight es bastante perfecto en el sentido de que todos los aspectos saben complementarse bastante bien. El chiste de este juego, que son los poderes psíquicos, pueden ser usados para resolver los niveles de formas distintas. Por otro lado, te das cuenta de lo pulido que está el combate y el sigilo con detalles como un sistema bastante innovador que usa lockeo en tercera persona para tiroteos, algo que nunca vi en mi vida. Se nota la influencia de Metal Gear, pero sabe agregar lo suficiente como para ser su propia cosa. La historia tiene un ritmo sólido y el giro final es muy bueno.

I remember getting my original Xbox along with this and bloodwake for Christmas when I was young. I played it to death but never beat it until now. Even though it's janky and dated it's still a lot of fun if you can get used to the controls. Story is better than 90% of the shet today. I miss the days of these experimental games. 8/10

owned this game on the original xbox. saw it here and wanted to try it out.
barely supports any modern resolutions. not 1080 not 1440.

is it playable...sure! and I would argue it's better than 90% of the crap we get today..

and yes it's an old game, but from the looks it was added to steam in like 2021 or something.
I suspect this game was put out here for a quick buck, feeding on nostalgia. and then die.

Not as mechanically interesting as Splinter Cell, not as well-written as MGS 2, but still engaging nonetheless. Beautiful showcase of 2004 technology (particle effects! interactible physics objects! floor reflections! ragdolls!) The slow dripfeed of powers and the creative integrations required to solve puzzles keep levels from feeling too similar. There's a sense they had a larger game in planning, one with more interactions between the psychic abilities and the world around you, but what we got works.

However, for a game so focused on stealth, the constant combat it throws at you (along with the infinitely spawning enemies) sometimes makes for a tedious experience. The levels themselves are fairly short, but can turn into a slog if you missed a switch or item to pick up. None of it's necessarily difficult, but this is in part due to the braindead AI. F.E.A.R.'s automated planning and algorithms, this is not.

Beware, the PC port has some solidly terrible controls and some ruthless autoaim.

Man, I miss Free Radical.

It's a pretty solid game all things considered. If I picked this game up as a kid, which I was around the time of it's release, I would have my rose tinted glasses on right now saying it's my favourite game. Because at the time this game would've been one of the best to come out. It definitely has some flaws, but what games don't? The gameplay can be a bit clunky (it's a ps2 era game, what do you expect) and the dialogue and voice acting is a bit hit or miss (again, its a ps2 era game, what do you expect). However even in this modern day of video gaming, I kept coming back to find out whats next in the story and how it all fits together. It's a bit cliche having the skeptic who then doesn't become a skeptic (I wont spoil it) and some more cliches and tropes from the time the game was released. However the ideas they had for gameplay and abilities felt fresh and interesting with how you progress in the story with new abilities being released throughout the story progression itself. And surprisingly, it runs somewhat well, I did have to look up fixes and stuff but it wasnt too bad, it was one of those drag and drop situations not one of the "stopping cpu cores from working" situation.

Технически данная игра очень средний порт. Отсутствует нормальная поддержка геймпадов. Можно подгрузить стимовский шаблон, но и с ним не удобно играть. Приходится бороться с камерой, которая пытается сама отцентроваться. Приходится бороться с прицелом, который может прилипнуть непонятно куда-то. Максимальное разрешение из коробки 1280 x 1024. Нужно или редакировать файл конфигураций игры или ставить широкоформатный патч.

My nostalgia goggles are on tight for this one, but I can assure you the game still holds up.
There are moments where the age shows a bit, especially in the Ai department but overall this is a game you shouldn't be passing up.

Second Sight, c’est pas juste un jeu pour moi, c’est un morceau de mon enfance. Replonger dedans aujourd’hui, c’est retrouver ces nuits passées à découvrir, les yeux écarquillés, qu’on pouvait balancer des ennemis avec la pensée, se soigner par la force de l’esprit ou posséder quelqu’un comme dans les films.

À l’époque, je n’avais pas capté toute la profondeur de son scénario à base de flashbacks trompeurs et de twist narratif… mais je me souviens encore du frisson que ça me donnait. Et ça, ça n’a pas vieilli.

Certes, sur PC on sent les années : la caméra un peu têtue, la technique rétro et quelques bugs qui rappellent que c’est un jeu de 2004. Mais justement, c’est ce charme un peu brut qui me replonge direct dans mes jeunes années.

Si vous avez connu Second Sight à sa sortie, préparez-vous à un vrai coup de nostalgie. Et si vous le découvrez seulement aujourd’hui, prenez-le comme une relique d’une époque où les jeux n’avaient pas peur de mêler action, infiltration et psychisme sans trop se poser de questions.

Un petit trésor rétro, qui mérite encore d’être vécu.

A Game with psychic abilities that is old, but still good.
Grabbing soldiers and tossing them aside with your mind is satisfying.
Great story, at least the first time you play it.
There are some downsides however,
It was clearly designed for consoles first and that comes with janky controls and aim assist.
Also has stealth elements, where the enemies spawn endlessly if the alarm is set and you can't hide.

Second Sight - это не просто реликт давным-давно минувших времён, а один из большинства уникальных проектов типа "игр категории Б". Вот я прошёл игру до конца, что стоило мне титанических усилий, как с точки зрения затраченного времени, нервов и впервые за долгое время был вынужден смотреть прохождение на Ютубе, ибо гений на разработчике оказался сильнее. Игра вызывает довольно смешанные чувства и во время наших приключений, да и после прохождения как такового.

На этой рецензии стоял бы палец вверх, если бы не один значительный момент, а именно - техническое состояние игры. В смысле, это не единственный недостаток, но на остальные ещё можно было бы закрыть глаза и может игра по-другому бы чувствовалась, если бы не то, как она работает (отвратительно). По дефолту игра не работает в 16:9, так что надо лезть в конфиг-файл и прописывать там нужное разрешение. Ну и кайф, всё отлично, можно даже ФПС там прописать, чтобы игра не лочилась на 30, да? Ну так вот - НЕТ БЛYAТЬ. В строке герцовки экрана можно даже миллион написать, сама игра всё-равно будет работать в 15-20 ФПС. Есть различные руководства Стим, в которых написаны методы исправления этого каличного фреймрейта, но имеется также маленькая приписка, что "работает не у всех". Плюс игра вообще-то под консоли пилилась, так что без ограничения кадров можно ожидать разных весёлых вещей, как в 3Дэшных ГТА.

Что однозначно заслуживает похвалы - сюжет этой игры. Если бы здешняя история была скучной, то я бы через силу и боль так и не допрошёл бы эту игру, но повествование меня затянуло и хотелось узнать, чем же закончится история доктора Джона Ваттика, да и всего мира, если так посмотреть. Путешествия между прошлым, будущим и настоящим, нелинейное повествование и просто добротная история - это то, что делает сюжет этой игры особенным и во многом, очень запоминающимся

Если смотреть на тэги Стима, то игра себя в первую очередь позиционирует, как стрелялка от третьего лица. Что можно сказать о стрельбе, когда у тебя 15-20 ФПС? Ну, ничего хорошего. Разброса у оружия почти нет, автоматы чувствуются одинаково, дробовики убивают врагов с другого конца коридора. Приятно стрелять из снайперской винтовки - тогда в нижнем углу у нас есть небольшая панель, откуда показывают вид из прицела, чтобы было удобнее ставить хедшоты. НО, вспоминаем, что игра так-то - консольная, а значит у нас есть наполовину работающий авто-аим. Не нашёл способа его отключить. В чём проблема? Ну, если врагов в комнате всего 2 или 3, то "переключаться" между ними довольно просто. Однако, стоит в помещении появится ещё каким-то бочкам, ящикам и прочей 3алупe, то автонаведение начинает брать в рассчёт и их, значительно усложняя весь процесс.

Вторым тэгом в Стиме является скрытность ака стелс. Хорошо ли он здесь реализован? Ну, очень спорный вопрос. Это не стелс уровня Бэтмена или Сплинтер Селл - игра нам довольно ясно говорит, что вступать в открытые конфронтации невыгодно и лучше либо решать вопрос по-тихому, либо вообще не показываться врагам на глаза. Как известно, даже самый великий мастер способен ошибиться, поэтому молитесь, чтобы лишний раз у Вас не соскочил палец с кнопки, отвечающий за инвиз - враги довольно быстро сообщат по рации о вашем присутствии и подкрепление не заставит себя долго ждать. Если бы игра автоматически перезапускала уровень, то было бы намного лучше, потому что, если игрок спалится, то начинается самое у6людское наказание за провал стелса (который как бы не обязателен, нам же не пишут, что миссия провалена) - бесконечный респавн врагов и приход подкреплений. При должном везении от них можно спрятаться, но теперь, все враги, которых вы "сняли с постов раньше", на них вернутся)))))))

Даёт ли игра инструменты для того, чтобы стелс работал как надо? На бумаге у нас есть транквилизатор и сверхспособности. Под необычными умениями я имею ввиду Телекинез (перемещение предметов, а со временем сможем даже кидаться врагами), Лечение (то есть, бесконечная аптечка), Инвиз (которым иногда можно успокаивать наших товарищей), Пси-Шар (кидаемся во врагов, всё просто, со временем сможем делать взрыв вокруг себя) и наша Проекция (которая умеет трогать другие предметы за нас и невидима для врагов - со временем сможем вселяться в других врагов и ликвидировать их товарищей). Почему же у нас это есть на бумаге? Неоднократно телекинез лочился на какой-то мусор на полу вместо врага, пси-шар отказывался лететь во врага, а проекция исчезала с ниxyя. Ограничивает нас в возможностях лишь шкала пси-энергии и техническая кривость игры. А, про 15-20 ФПС помним?

Какие ещё в игре есть бесячие мелочи? Временами игра будет нам подкидывать напарников, за здоровьем которых нужно следить и какие же они тупые - бегут впереди нас, лезут под пули, будто безголовые курицы. Ещё игра имеет два вида камеры - одна статичная, как в старых Резидентах, показывающая нам уровень под разными и довольно неудобными углами, а вторая динамичная, которой мы как бы и сами можем управлять, но очень часто посмотреть вверх или под каким-то большим углом мы не в состоянии, а там бывает вентиль или ещё какая-то штука, которую нужно сорвать/притянуть. Ну и на дессерт - отсутствие возможности сохраняться вручную в нужный момент (про быстрые сохранения молчу). Вышел с уровня, не допройдя? Начинай сначала.

Очевидно, в игре очень много крутых и интересных моментов, захватывающий сюжет, но её техническая сторона и некоторые уровни, где без 200 IQ не ясно, где искать какой-то ключ или эти бесконечные подкрепления при провале "стелса" просто убили для меня всё удовольствие. Если хотите узнать побольше про эту игру - посмотрите какой-то разбор на Ютубе, состарилась она довольно плохо для своих лет.

While it is an interesting concept and idea, it's execution is flawed.
It's a more or less forgotten 6th gen third person action-stealth game.

Gameplay wise, you're given an array of psychic abilities, these range from being usefull in most cases, to some that are almost never used, except in areas where an obstacle needs to be dealt with to proceed furter.
Granted 90% of the game, you can ignore the psychic abilities and just use your guns, so they don't feel too impactful, despite the story revolving itself around them.

The controls are wonky, it's a choice between a third person camera that will glitch out in enclosed areas or a "cinematic camera" that will rather film you in the wrong direction, so you can't see the enemies.
But of the 2, the third person camera is actually usefull.
Shooting is autolock on to enemies and you then have to move the cursor to decide where to hit, however the autolock is terrible, as at times it will lock to the wrong enemies, or explosive barrels in the vicinity.
Making it extremely frustrating, if you're trying to hit something specifc.

You can't save during the missions, so you have to complete the levels in order to progress.
Granted if you die during the missions, you do have checkpoints to jumpt to.
There's no mission number either in the main menu, so you just have to sorta guess which mission is the next.

The game jumps from being stealth focused in 1 mission, to a combat oriented one in another.
This is most likely done to make the gameplay more varied.
Argueably the worst missions are the stealth missions, as the stealth is poorly implemented and the game will just spews out more and more enemies if you get spotted.

Visually it looks dated, but does it's job, the characters however, does look a bit weird, especially in the cutscenes.
It's nothing negative, but it's just an observation.

Muisc is excellent and helps set the tone for the different levels, however, you're gonna be sick and tired of listening to the singular "combat" track.
the rest of the sound effects falls the line of being okay and neutral, there wasn't really anything that stood out.

The story is honestly the biggest reason to keep going, because the premise is quite interesting and it is setup nicely and leaves you wondering where it goes next.
And then it just ends on a whiff.

I couldn't really recommend this game, unless you're nostalgic about the game or looking to play 6th gen games for some reason.

Fun action/stealth game. Think of: what if PsiOps was made by ex Rare developers.
It has multiple psychic abilities with different types of uses, fun gunplay, engaging storyline and interesting characters.
While the stealth is a little simple and at times not working all that well, it's still pretty enjoyable.
I'd say my biggest critique is the camera: it's always fighting against you in cramped places and you'll be switching to 1st person mode quite often to compensate for that.
Despite that, I still think it's a fun game.

On sent que c'était le début de certaines choses comme le ciblage automatique d'ennemis, le perso vise souvent un peu ce qu'il veut et c'est un peu compliqué de viser précisément. Les pouvoirs sont pas toujours utiles parce qu'ils peuvent être long à recharger et il y a beaucoup de niveau où on peut pas se faire repérer parce que ça lance des vagues infinies d'ennemis et on n'en sort jamais, donc on recommence pour pas se faire repérer. Il y a beaucoup de choses pas claires sur les objectifs de missions aussi. Overall un peu déçu du jeu, mais je l'ai enfin fait.

Malgré que certains scripts ne fonctionnent pas sur la version Steam (notamment 2 portes et 2 IAs), le jeu reste propre.

On shoot, on s'amuse à voir comment réagissent les ennemis quand on les prend pour des débiles ou qu'on soulève des trucs avec la télékinésie. C'EST DRÔLE.

Par contre, comme la version d'origine sur PC, les sous-titres sont aux fraises à la fin pour la version française (décalage, incohérence, "LEAVE CHILDREN ALONE" non-traduit, ... ).

Este fue uno de los primeros juegos que probé cuando tenía una computadora de 4 de RAM y sin tarjeta gráfica. Originalmente lo descargué de manera no oficial, pero eventualmente lo he comprado dado que le tengo aprecio a este juego viejito.

Debo admitir que los puntos positivos del juego son únicamente su historia y su variedad de "estrategias" que puedes hacer con los poderes y armas que te otorga el juego. Evidentemente es un juego lineal, aun así, no aburre para nada ningún nivel (excepto cuando ya te lo has pasado varias veces). El diseño de niveles en algunas misiones es un asco, por intuición es probable que no puedas pasar algunas partes dado que se pone un poquito complicado, aunque eso no quita que siga siendo entretenido cada nivel.

Los puntos negativos recaen principalmente en el movimiento de cámara de los poderes, armas y el propio personaje. En serio, que terrible modo de hacer que el jugador se frustre a veces. Por supuesto, no lo hace injugable, pero molesta en ocasiones muy concretas. También esta el problema de los puntos de guardado, creo que este punto es del que más me puedo quejar, osea, no puedo salir del juego ni de la misión independientemente de lo que haya avanzado porque se me eliminará todo el progreso del nivel de inmediato. En serio, es un fastidiooo!!!

Bueno, creo que esos son mis puntos principales para reseñar. Lo recomiendo, es un buen juego pese a sus problemas "técnicos". No te aburre y es relativamente corto, así que probablemente se pueda terminar en 3 o 2 días a lo mucho si juegas de manera casual como yo. Eso sería todo ;)

What a masterpiece!!! This game has been engraved in me since my childhood, no other game has left me such an impact as this game. The soundtracks are amazing too! I wish they would remaster this game or create a similar game but with open world and add maybe a skill tree to upgrade your powers like in Prototype or Infamous games. Overall even though it's an old game I still 100% recommend this masterpiece, you will not regret it!

Как прошел почти 20 лет назад, так, больше не притрагиваясь, и называл при случае одной из своих любимых игр. Сейчас конечно впечатления сложились не столь восторженные, но в целом, с оглядкой на возраст, и тем более на то, что изначальна игра выходила на PS2, скажу что это добротный сюжетный экшончик от третьего лица. Да и аналогов за все эти годы не было. Пси-опс с которым вечно сравнивают - фигня полная. Попробовал несколько лет назад, там и сюжет хрен разберешь, и локации сплошные бункеры да заводы, и пси-способности какие-то кривые. Тут же и драма понятная, и персонажи люди, а не говорящие модельки, и мотивы их ясны. И локации атмосферные, особенно психушка, в лучших традиция Manhunt. И со способностями осваиваешься вместе с героем, который тоже не в курсе что за херню он может творить. Ну да, стрельба кривая, и сирена если прозвучит - то жопа полная. Враги из несуществующих дверей бесконечным потоком хлынут. Но зато хэдшоты честные можно ставить. А если быть внимательным и аккуратным то и тревогу не поднимут. Тем кто не брезгует возрастом игры и понимает минусы консольных портов тех лет - однозначно рекомендую.

Second Sight - auf dem zweiten Hinblick doch nicht mehr so gut.

Manchmal muss man einfach ein Spiel der frühen 2000er ausgraben. Und es war mal wieder Zeit Second Sight nach 20 Jahren zu spielen. Ich hatte das Spiel als recht gut in Erinnerung behalten - und es jetzt zu spielen war vielleicht nicht die klügste Idee.

Denn wenn man an Spiele der späten 90er/Anfang 2000er denkt, dann denkt man oft eines: eine furchtbar steife Steuerung. Und das trifft hier auch zu. Der Charakter John Vattic lässt sich nur schwammig bewegen. Aber hey, seit GTA IV und GTA V ist es doch wieder modern - oder nicht?

Nun, wenn es nur das wäre...

Leider kommt hinzu, dass das Aim-Verhalten wirklich... also wirklich wirklich... altbacken ist. Nicht mal bei Veröffentlichung konnte man das innovativ nennen. Egal ob Psi-Kräfte oder Feuerwaffen; beides lässt sich nur fummlig ausführen. Und von den Eskort-Missionen fangen wir gar nicht erst an... aber die sind in keinem Spiel gut.
Dennoch möchte ich nicht alles schlecht reden - Second Sight hat seine Stärken. Die prächtige "Anfang der 2000er"-Grafik und recht interessante Kern der Story können einen zum weiterspielen motivieren. Auch das voice acting ist für diese Zeit beeindruckend gut.

Die Technik der Steamversion läuft auf heutigen PCs nicht wirklich rund. Das Bildverhältnis ist auf 4:3 und die Bildwiederholrate des Spiels sind reines Glücksspiel - von 20 bis 60 FPS ist alles dabei.

Auch wenn dieses Spiel zu viele Schwächen hat - ich muss einen "Daumen nach oben" geben - rein aus Nostalgiegefühlen und der interessanten Story.

Уже не помню, когда я впервые запустил эту игру. Но на похождения Джона Ваттика я смотрел через пузатый экран ЭЛТ монитора Samsung, а жуткий и гипнотизирующий саундтрек из главного меню хрипел через белые колонки Genius с синей сеточкой.
Скажу не лукавя, тогда я мало обращал внимание на сюжет игры. Сколько раз бы я не перепроходил эту игру, я кощунственно пропускал сюжетные ролики и переходил к геймплею. Сейчас же я вижу, насколько он клюквенный и примитивный - но все же сложно отрицать, что он написан крепко в рамках своего жанра.

Вспоминая то, как я играл в нее в детстве, и сравнивая с нынешним опытом, я поражаюсь, как я не забросил сразу после обучения стрельбе. Тогда я почему-то совсем не обратил внимание на эту "особенность" игры. Не скажу, что стрельба прям ужасна, это все же не Kane and Lynch с его рандомом, но по привыкать к ней придется. Как понимаю, это "примагничивание" к цели ПК версия унаследовала с приставок. И если это так, то вопросы отпадают, ты выдыхаешь и продолжаешь играть. Тем более, что при использовании пси-способностей это только помогает.
Но вот механику стрельбы из снайперской винтовки я не могу объяснить. Вместо того, чтобы войти в прицел, как это происходит практически во всех шутерах от третьего лица, разработчики придумали для винтовки отдельное окошко в углу экрана. Совру, если скажу, что с таким невозможно играть, но мозг это ломает безусловно.

Пси-способности. В то время я еще не знал о существовании Garry's Mod, потому Second sight и использование пси-способностей стало для меня чем-то подобным. Я экспериментировал как мог: исходя из возможностей игры и своей фантазии. Бочки, стулья, мониторы - были оружием в моих руках опаснее, чем любой огнестрел. А то, как реагирует ИИ на пси-оружие...ох...я рад, что моя челюсть тогда не отвисла совсем.

Но что если посмотреть на игру сейчас? Какая она? Хорошо ли она состарилась?
Я скажу за себя - воспоминания, связанные с этой игрой, что отпечатались в моей памяти, не были так сильно искажены моей памятью. Хотя сейчас я точно смотрю на нее уже с другой стороны, Во всяком случае сюжету я уделяю больше внимания. Игра все также увлекательна, все также дает немного поэкспериментировать со способностями. ИИ не вызывает раздражения. Музыка великолепна. А графика, благодаря ее немного мультяшному стилю, все также приятна глазу

Потому, несмотря на уже совершеннолетний возраст игры, я настоятельно рекомендую в нее поиграть. Новых игроков "особенности" геймплея, возможно оттолкнут, но вот у тех, кто играл в нее в детстве, она вызовет скупую слезу

P.S. Игра изначально идет 4:3, но есть гайды, которые это могут поправить. Так что сложностей не должно быть

Great Game, Frustrating Port

Second Sight was one of my favorite games from the PlayStation 2 era in the mid-2000's. It combines stealth, guns, and psi powers for a unique gameplay experience. In the game you play as Dr. John Vattic as you embark on a mission with the WinterICE team. Because this is a console port, the controls do not translate well to keyboard and mouse, especially the gun aiming, which uses auto lock on instead of allowing free aiming. Also the Steam version does not allow for modern resolutions like 1080p so expect a blurry and jagged experience. Despite these shortcomings, Second Sight has a fantastic story with an incredible plot twist. Overall I do recommend this game if you like games with a good story and super powers like BioShock or Control, but do be aware that the game's age and console origins show in this re-release PC port.

I thought that with the re-release they would make the game more compatable with modern systems, but I doubt they lifted a finger at all.
Despite low resolution the performance is odd. Some levels run rather smoothly, but other levels run as badly as only about 20 FPS.

The game itself is very strange. Tons of unusual mechanics and while controls aren't terrible they aren't anywhere near as smooth as I'd want them to be. Most of the gameplay is awkward, but fascinating. Game often requires me to perform some actions that in other games like Splinter Cell I could do rather easily, but here it's very difficult, it is a combination of controls and physics that makes everything clumsy and bizarre. I did enjoy a lot of the scenarios even though occationally it's possible to semi-softlock the game, like when a bunch of enemies follow you up and you reach a checkpoint... So every time you reload the save a bunch of guys are shooting at you already, and if there are more enemies upfront you're pretty much screwed. I would not call this game a must play by any means, but it was a one of a kind experience.

The reason why I bought this game at all was because I was a HUGE Timesplitters fan, and played all three of those to death, so I thought I'd give one of my all time fav developers another go.

For starters I think the graphics look pretty okay. I'm a big fan of the character design Free Radical does, although it is definitely not as creative in Second Sight as in Timesplitters, it still gave me a nice comfy feeling seeing very familiar animations and visuals.

The gameplay is quite clunky, and you can REALLY tell it's 2004 console third person action game controls. It translates rather poorly to mouse and keyboard, but once you get used to the jank it's manageable. I did however find myself frustrated at some of the more challenging parts where precise gunplay and quick swapping of powers/weapons was needed.

What was really cool about the game, though, was all the different psychic abilities. They all make for some cool and fun gameplay moments, and the pacing of how and when you unlock them is done very well. I would have, however, liked if they had more open ended solutions to most tasks. Sometimes it really feels like the game wants you to use a certain ability, and only that, so some more variety in how you would solve certain puzzles or enemy encounters would keep it from getting kinda stale towards the end.

I did however REALLY enjoy the computer puzzles. Albeit simple, they were a really cool way of interacting with the world and story, and I found myself actually wanting to read every tidbit of information I could get my hand on. It makes the whole world a little bit more believable, even though some of these workers really need to learn more about password safety :p

Story wise I felt even more disappointed. I'll try not to spoil too much, but I felt they could've taken the story in a much more ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ way. It felt kinda tame and left me with a rather sour taste in my mouth when I was done. Very predictable, which is why I felt the story was going in another direction. The ending felt kinda rushed, too.

It was so obvious and over the top at some points I was certain the story would go completely M. Night Shyamalan on my ass, but I was left very disappointed when it was in fact just an obvious rather boring story.

Skip to under the line if you don't want me to spoil what DOESN'T happen, because now I wanna give my two cents on what I was really hoping the story was doing at the midway point:

[spoiler] To me; all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the main character experienced were so cliché and boring I genuinely thought it would end with him actually just being a schizophrenic mental hospital patient. They could've made such a powerful story relating the player to the insanities these people sometimes experience, and man oh man would it have been good, if executed correctly. After the first 2 hours I started doubting everything, thinking that this was such a good way of showing psychosis symptoms and delusions, but no; turned out it WAS all real and it was just another bland, fairly naive story.

The first time you meet... uh... I already forgot her name, the other psychic woman, and the whole squad got split up, I followed my gamer instinct and tried to kill her when I got bored. I killed her, then got a cutscene of the main bad guy interviewing us; asking if "killing and hurting people is fine with you?" I think this is where the biggest seed of us just being a very mentally ill person REALLY started taking a hold, and I was really eager to find out what would happen.

The biggest reason as to WHY I even bothered finishing it was because I thought this type of ending would redeem the whole game. But no, you are the chosen one with psychic powers and you are the hero and oh my god please save us!!!
How sick would it be if you just turned out to be someone suffering from SERIOUS schizophrenia? I don't know man, I thought it was a cool concept, until I realized towards the end that that ending was all in MY head, and I was suffering from mediocre story psychosis. [/spoiler]

Music and sound design is pretty okay too. Some of the tracks were pretty good, Graeme Norgate is one of my favorite video-game soundtrack producers, but even so it is kinda more in the background in this one. Very rarely did it do anything but serve its purpose, which is fine.

Other sounds are also pretty good. A lot of them are kinda nostalgic to me, since I played so much Timesplitters, like the Soviet Rifle, or the camera detection sounds. Dialogue delivery is mostly fine, but sometimes there was a few unintentionally funny deliveries.

Достаточно интересная игра, особенно если учесть, что подобных ей игр далеко не очень много
Сюжет очень захватывающий и интересный, набор способностей у главного героя ну просто на высоте, буквально всё что нужно))
Однако надо сказать и о минусах. Камера сделана очень неудобно, честно говоря я хуже и не видел. Стрельба тоже не ахти) сразу видно, что игра - порт с консолей, прицеливание максимально неудобно, но стрелять со снайперской винтовки в целом мне понравилось, очень удобно. Ещё стоит упомянуть, что текстуры далеко не высокого качества, но в глаза сильно не бросается, так что в целом нормально
Мне кажется, что игру явно стоит пройти тем, кто не играл. Сюжет буквально покрывает все минусы.

This game is great. I played it on PS2 when i was a kid and it's stuck with me this long. this is one of maybe 5 video games who's plots i remember like a film. When i recently got my powerful modern PC, this old PS2 game was one of the games i was looking forward to the most.

This is a game that I used to play all the time when I was younger. The premise of a guy with telekinetic powers appealed to me, and for its time, the graphics were incredible ( and back then, Steam wasn't really a thing. We used to download our games through a service called GameTap)

It hasn't aged all too well. Compared to today's standards, the graphics appear primitive and a little janky. The story and overall mechanics hold up good though.

When I saw that it was on Steam. I snagged it up purely for the nostalgia.

Should you buy it??

Well that depends. If you're an aging millennial like me who grew up on titles such as these, I think you'd appreciate the memories.

But if not....well...

Yeah the PC port has flaws that some negative reviews pointed out, mainly that some people can't even get the game to run in the first place (I can run it just fine btw but that doesn't say much since I can run games like Quake 3 and Doom 3 just fine without any editing or port fixes), movement and aiming is wonky-to-awful but tolerable depending on how one plays. Overall it's still a great game with fantastic story to it, especially for it's time. I do like John Vattic and Hanson of the game and got a couple of chuckles from it, and the option to play as a pacifist and how far one can go with it to have their own version of John is amazing (at least most of the time.... ignoring that one level). If one can fix the game to have it running get used to the controls then it's definitely worth it.
Will say that my only complaint is not being able to play in windowed mode.
