This game was so ahead of it's time. I play through the story a couple of years ago, and it's still great!

Я купил Rune Classic из-за ностальгии — в детстве проходил её много раз, и при запуске в Steam это ощущение действительно вернулось.
Атмосфера у игры по-прежнему сильная: скандинавский стиль, музыка и общее настроение хорошо работают даже сейчас. При этом со временем заметно, что игра ощущается короче, чем в памяти — создаётся впечатление, что часть контента была вырезана.
Возраст проекта чувствуется и в минусах: управление кажется неудобным, сюжет простой, а геймплей и графика откровенно устарели.
Тем не менее, у Rune Classic есть вещи, которые всё ещё держат игру. Это боевка с расчленёнкой, дизайн уровней с испытаниями, платформингом и головоломками, а также внимание к деталям и цельная скандинавская атмосфера.
В итоге Rune Classic сегодня — это в первую очередь ностальгический опыт, но при этом игра способна заинтересовать и новых игроков, если их не пугает её возраст и устаревшие механики.
Это одна из лучших игр своего времени. Повторно прошёл её на SteamDeck. Игра стоит своих небольших денег, а если у вас SteamDeck и вы не знаете, что ещё на ней пройти, то обязательно попробуйте эту игру. Не смотрите на графику, в этой игре есть сюжет, есть русская локализация, неплохая боевка. Эта игра обязательно понравится любителям Скандинавского сетинга.

Lembro de ter jogado a demo deste jogo em um CD da revista CDExpert que continha diversas demos, e uma delas foi esse jogo.
É um jogo bem antigo sim, é um hack n'slash com elementos de plataforma que dá para se divertir e você passa por diversos mapas com diferentes cenários inspirados na mitologia nórdica, eu gosto muito desses gráficos quadradões da Unreal Engine que mesmo com os limites da época havia uma certa atenção aos detalhes.
Recomendo muito pelo seu preço baixo e para passar o tempo.

Мы с другом разрекламировали руну и подсадили всю сеть в нее шпилить, по сети. было очень весело. С братом называли чуваков с отрубленными (обеими руками) карандаш ✏️ ))))

This and Halls of Valhalla was one of my favourite games growing up. I like the mods with flying animals you can ride and joust with. Such a fun game, cutting of someone's arm and beating them with their own arm. Hahaha! CLASSIC!

Положительные отзывы навязаны ностальгическими воспоминаниями, кои в своё время могли иметь место, но сейчас, откровенно говоря, играть в это очень скучно и противно.
Cама атмосфера и визуал старых игр прекрасно ощущаются, но игровой процесс мерзотный. Некоторые почему-то пишут про невероятную боевую систему и индивидуальный подход к каждому врагу, но НЕТ, это бред и каждого врага просто ковыряешь оружием получше. Нет никакой тактики, все враги спамятся атакой и всё. Боевая система унылая и именно она портит весь экспириенс от игры из-за багованных врагов.
Если вы решите побегать на харде, то бои превратятся в танцы по кругу, пока ты не заденешь по пикселю врага быстрее чем он. По началу это даже выглядит как трайхард, но потом начинают появляться рыцари, которые машут по воздуху, а урон проходит по тебе. И хуже всех - гномы, которые багованные и прыгают по всей локации имитируя удар пузом, который сносит почти всё хп из-за кривой тычки. Если к ним подходишь, они просто дёргаются на расстояние в миллиметр спамя этот удар, по итогу практически невозможно ударить не получив урон. И этот спам происходит бесконечно, особенно прикольно, когда ты находишься со спины или сбоку, но им не мешает выполнять толчок, видимо жопой. Это не сложность, это просто очень кривая и противная реализация боя.
Кто-то возразит, что есть щиты, но вперёд, эти щиты из-за той же кривой багованной тычки буквально с 1го-2х ударов рассыпаются, так что они бесполезны по игре.
ИИ при этом сломан наглухо, враги могут просто зависать и стоять, пока их бьют, либо их криптонит - залезть на стол, возле которого они будут афк стоять.
Сюжет состоит из: иногда звонит по скайпу Один и говорит "Вот Локи такой плохой, я на него обижен, плак-плак, нади убей его, мне самому лень".
Últimamente, siento que los juegos modernos han perdido la magia que tenían los antiguos. Aunque los gráficos y las historias son impresionantes, muchos parecen más diseñados como productos para mantenernos enganchados que como experiencias que realmente nos dejen una huella. Los sistemas de recompensas, skins que más parece el dia del orgullo, microtransacciones y pases de temporada parecen enfocados más en mantenernos atrapados en un ciclo de consumo que en darnos una experiencia satisfactoria.
No se trata de nostalgia, sino de que los juegos ya no sienten tan auténticos ni tan emocionantes. En los viejos tiempos, completar un juego o superar un desafío nos dejaba con una sensación de logro real. Hoy, aunque hay avances tecnológicos, esa chispa de pasión y satisfacción personal ha desaparecido, convirtiendo los juegos en simples transacciones, más que en aventuras memorables.
Un claro ejemplo de lo que realmente me atrapa es Rune. Este juego tiene una simplicidad que, lejos de restarle valor, la convierte en algo desafiante. Su diseño no necesita de mecánicas complejas o sistemas interminables. Es directo, con combate brutal y un mundo para explorar, pero a la vez profundo en su jugabilidad. El combate es sencillo y perfecto para mi gusto. Lo de matar a un enemigo y usar su partes desgarradas para destrozar a otro enemigo, hace con que cada victoria en Rune sea deliciosa y me recuerda que lo importante no son las recompensas inmediatas, sino la sensación de haber superado algo real y desafiante. En juegos como este, siento que la verdadera experiencia está en el camino, no en el producto final.
Can't believe I never reviewed this game till now lol. Of all the older games I've played this one holds up as one of the best imo. The combat and movement feels really fluid and the atmosphere is absolutely fantastic.

A whole lot of undead, plants, goblins, and other stuff before you can fight human enemies. It's a lot of fun so far. The most dated aspect is probably the platforming. There's a lot of places where it's easy to get lost because you have to either break something or walk/swim into that's not easy to spot, or a random hanging chain that you probably passed by ten times while looking around. It's easily the most outdated / worse aspect of the game.
Also, I highly recommend having multiple saves. I rotated between 4 save slots. It's a huge hassle, but it saved my playthrough at one point. I soft locked myself after jumping over a wall that closed its underwater hatch since there the area before it was already completed, but of course I just had to jump over because it was easy to reach.
The combat is fantastic. It's really fun to throw around weapons, and picking up stuff off the ground mixes things up. There is a surprising amount of choices that lets you change how a fight is going. You can use 3 different weapon types: sword, axe, and mace. They deal with different enemy armor types, but it didn't really matter for me most of the time. Just go crazy and the enemy will die eventually. Classic hack and slash action.
The environments are atmospheric and scenic. Older games know just how to make the most out of the limited resources to create amazing landscapes and environments. My only issue is that because I'm playing the game without any fan patches, everything is extremely dark. I have to resort to disabling World Lighting just so I can see where to go. I personally don't mind, I always like how the graphics look, but it may be different for others.
There's a lot of cool details everywhere.
- Enemies can potentially fight each other (infighting), but it's uncommon
- Every single weapon makes Ragnar's posture different, including attack animations
- The drums those goblin things play on can be hit / interacted with to play a sound
- Munch on lizards

Rune is a classic game. It is fun and had great multiplayer.
But i would recommend the GOG version more then this one. The Rune Classic is missing some content from the original, which was called Rune gold.
Some claim this content was not fitting in the game (as it was some platform sections and puzzles, and a huge crab was switches with skeletons) but I disagree.
Although Rune Classic runs better, I prefer the real classic one.
You can buy that on GOG also as Rune Classic, but it comes with the Gold version as well. And you can download, install and play even without connecting to the Internet as it is DRM free.
This is what I wanted from Blade of Darkness--the melee is less "deep" but the game is infinitely more playable and has a ton of cool environments, traps, etc. Buggy but very cool. "They don't make em like this anymore"

This is one of my OG favorites, and not just because it’s a badass Viking adventure. My dad introduced me to this gem, so it’s got that extra nostalgia factor. The combat is raw, the world is gritty, and the whole experience just feels epic in a way that modern games sometimes miss.
The online multiplayer? Incredible. I spent hours battling it out with others, feeling that rush of chaotic Viking glory. Those were some unforgettable times.
But let me tell you, there’s one part I’ll never forget—swimming away from that terrifying fish. I legit almost ♥♥♥♥ myself. It was that perfect mix of panic and adrenaline that only a game like this can give you.
Rune Classic might not be shiny and new, but it’s pure, primal fun. If you’re into Vikings, old-school action, and a touch of heart-pounding terror, this game is worth diving back into. Just watch out for the fish. 🪓🌊🐟💀
Not sure who's reading this in 2024, but here goes. I'd recommend this title only if you're old enough to remember its launch; nostalgia carried me through much of this game I never got around to completing back in the early 00s. It's a decent enough title, but certainly a product of its time and relatively shallow in its mechanics and storyline. More of a 'get this off my backlog' run at about 9 hours on standard difficulty.
The combat is pretty straight forward and click mashing, though there are some times that 'precision' seems to be required with no way to produce it. One key example is early in the game a skeletal enemy needs its head removed to expedite its death. Sometimes comes in a swing, sometimes a dozen. Blocking also seems quaint and offered little protection throughout my run. Just mash things to death and back up where possible. The game can spike your death suddenly at times but does do a decent job in most parts to get your health back up to full afterwards.
Game threw a fit trying to run in UW resolutions so stick to 1080p; otherwise it ran fine on a brand new, 9800X3D, Win 11, late 2024 build.
TROUBLESHOOTING NOTE: Within the last 10-15 minutes of the game, there's a cutscene that'll hard crash the game, hard enough to make getting Task Manager running to kill it nearly impossible. You'll know it when you find it. Save often, and when you reach this headache, upon reloading the game you just crashed out of and before hitting that spot (comes right after jumping from 2 vines with your 'boosted' character), head to the options for the audio settings and take the sound volume slider down to 0. Once past that cutscene you can reenable sound. Found this solution buried in a 10 year old Steam forum thread, but it worked.
Probably safe to skip if you haven't played it already, and for completionists, there's no 100% this without help cheesing the multiplayer achievements in an ancient game, but I have spent time on worse titles.
Don't buy it. So many bugs and deleted levels! In addition to listed problems, multiplayer is broken. It's terrible version of perfect game.
Nostalgia total
I've loved this game ever since I was a kid. It's always been one of my favorite hack and slash dungeon crawlers. Every time I play it, it takes me back to that special place in my childhood.

Топ своего времени. Геймплей отличный даже сегодня. Никаких деревьев прокачки и уровней, персонаж усиливается через броню и новое оружие (+под конец есть усиление). Бой со щитом смотрится неплохо даже сегодня. Да и история на самом деле очень даже, викинги сражаются против конца света, с драмой и всем вытекающим. Игрушка буквально на пару вечеров, можно раз в несколько лет перепроходить спокойно. Жаль, что руна2 сдохла и даже в интернете тяжело найти ее, а ведь была неплохой альтернативой. Для игры есть моды на текстуры, советую.

Pretty cool old school OG Unreal Engine action adventure viking bash 'em up.
Looks great in 4K and runs straight out of the gate with barely any issues, not many ancient games on Steam are this lucky.
Great level design with lots of verticality and gory combat where you can chop your enemies to pieces, then pick up their head and throw it in lava for funsies.
One thing i had to mess with was if you change to modern resolutions most of the game will play off screen but it's easily fixed by changing your DPI in desktop display settings to 100%. No big deal.
В этой игре просто шикарное аудио сопровождение. Оно прям погружает тебя в игру. Обволакивает атмосферой викингов, приятного одиночества и ностальгии. В игру до этого не играл, но из-за старых актеров озвучки Артеса из warcraft и Гендельфа, сложилось ощущение будто все детство только в нее и играл. Управление, как и боевка, приятное и удобное в отличии от той же готики что вышла на год позже. Ну в целом оно и понятно, игра представляет собой линейное приключение без прокачки, где мы только и можем что бегать и сражаться. Вот и решили довольно скудненький геймплей сделать приятным в управлении(То что геймплей скудный, не значит что он плохой. Качество всегда лучше количества. Лучше хороший минимум, чем максимум посредственности. Как это принято сейчас...). Присутствуют "забытые технологии древних" такие как расчлененка и отражение на поверхностях льда и воды. Порой конечно, как это и принято у старых игр, не понятно куда идти или что делать и лезть в гайды. Под конец уже игра чутка душит и чувствуется затянутость. Техническое состояние тоже хорошее. Перевернутые модельки растительности, если раздражают, фиксится перезагрузкой уровня, а критический баг всего один и под самый конец. Перед катсценой где 3 скелета ломают стену, просто вырубаете звук в настройках, а после катсцены снова можно включить. Враги имеют свои особенности, а не только разные характеристики и взаимодействуют друг с другом, что дает живости миру.
Итог: если хочется сыграть в old school игру и почувствовать ностальгию даже если раньше в нее не играли. Или если хочется чего-то атмосферного про викингов, то эта игра идеальный кандидат. Играть обязательно в наушниках, ведь как по мне, вся фишка игры в аудио сопровождении.

Сломанные настройки яркости, отсутствующий контент (тупо нет части уровней, если вы в детстве как и я отточили прохождение игры наизусть вы поймете что такое "газлайтинг", потому что игра часто будет делать вид что "да никогда тут этой пещеры не было, да не на что тут смотреть" и я в какой-то момент правда в себе аж сомневаться начал. Но погуглил: они и правда просто вырезали часть контента. Зачем-то.
Гоговская версия комплектуется установщиком оригинальной игры, а гугл услужливо выдает фанатский сайт на котором есть решения проблем с запуском и игрой по сети. И на нее я рекомендую обратить внимание, а на эту версию судя по обсуждениям в стим давно забили (справедливости ради замечена куча сообщений от ребят из Humanhead которые пытались что-то исправить, но последние датированы 18 годом)

The year was 2000, and an unremarkable third-person slasher-type game was released, with its own interesting mechanics. This game was loved mainly because of the multiplayer added in 2001. And a lot of people played purely multiplayer, it was a very fun game, comparable to Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament Classic. Only here there were Vikings and a third-person view with melee combat. But I’ll tell you this - as a single game with a singleplayer company, this is also a masterpiece, especially if you remember that it was 2000.

Another game from the past that makes its way onto Steam. I played this originally on the original PC Disc version. Then the PS2 port later.
It is a bit dated and clunky with the controls.
Story is great for a Viking theme.
Gameplay is gory for its time. Gibs and chunks were the gorefest of the time.
OST is symbolic to the theme and helps drive the story and gameplay.
Its not for everyone and I imagine there will be many complaints over the clunkiness. As always check the pcgamingwiki for modern PC fixes to assist in smoothing it out and Nexusmods Rune Classic Remastered Mod https://www.nexusmods.com/runeclassic/mods/1 which fixes a ton

[b]Rune classic[/b] es un hack and slash en tercera persona publicado originalmente en el año 2000. En el juego encarnamos a Ragnar, un vikingo que comienza buscando venganza para comprender que Loki planea traer el “ragnarok” a Midgard.
La jugabilidad entera se basa en combatir contra los enemigos para pasar al siguiente nivel. Tiene un diseño de niveles lineal con poco de descubrir. Su punto fuerte es el combate en el que podemos desmembrar a los oponentes, cosa bastante avanzada en su año de lanzamiento. Pese a todo, hoy en día sigue siendo muy jugable por tener un control fluido. Aunque lo cierto es que no aporta nada al género salvo por su factor nostalgia. En tanto el apartado sonoro y gráfico, es de otra época, pero no por ello malo. [b]Rune classic[/b] tiene un excelente doblaje y el diseño artístico es bueno.
Sin embargo no es un juego carente de defectos. Para jugarlo correctamente, es necesario usar [i]dgVoodoo[/i] para corregir el problema del brillo. Luego nos encontramos con algunas texturas inexistentes y concluimos que en el escenario final donde se congela si no lo silenciamos completamente desde las opciones. Cosas que drenan un poco la experiencia de juego.
Aunque no hay muchos motivos para recomendarlo hoy, si tenés más de treinta años es probable que te aporte unas 8 horas de diversión. Lamentablemente hace más de tres años que no se encuentra con rebajas, por lo que para jugarlo, hay que pagar su precio completo. Afortunadamente en GOG se puede encontrar más barato. Siendo estas las circunstancias, es un juego que solo recomiendo a los jugadores veteranos que lo conocieron en su infancia.

I freaking loved this game when it came out in 2001. After some many years i got to replay it, and i still remember of how it was! Soon all of this will be erased from our memories, because WW3 is coming! Enjoy this game while you can, soon you will wake up in the future or on a different planet...

Arena fighting with your friends? What's not to love!? Chop up your opponents in a PVP vs arena and compete for the most kills in a certain amount of time. You can delimb people and throw their arms and heads at them when they respawn. Additionally there is a cool single player campaign to this game that has a decent length to it. It brings you on a journey from Ragnarok to Valhalla as Ragnar. As a viking you slay many different beasts and humans who wish to kill you on your way to valhalla. This is a hack and slash game by far and your weapons consist of swords, axes and hammers.
Rating: 10/10 I have spent countless hours playing this game in both single and multiplayer. It's a classic gem.

Просто культовая вещь по мотивам скандинавских мифов.

Rune - это классика и ностальгия по былым временам. Когда движок Unreal Engine только-только пошел в оборот и начал показывать свои возможности.
Одна из немногих игр погружающая вас в мифы Скандинавии и позволяющая испытать немного на себе тот самый Рагнарёк.
Сама игрушка незатейлива и боёвка достаточно проста , но в неё магическим образом влюбляешься.Вся суть игры сводится в истреблении нечисти и не только , ну или побега от них , а также ряда секций прыжковых паззлов (платформер)
Советую сразу начинать играть на максимальной сложности благо есть quicksave\load и можно хоть каждый шаг сохраняться как в Готике)
Плюсы :
+ Приятный движок
+ Идеальная продолжительность игры (8-14ч) в зависимости от ваших навыков и уровня сложности.
+ Шикарная атмосфера и музыкальное сопровождение
+ Ох уж эта анимация лица Рагнара на драккаре и одного Божка
+ Боевую систему легко понять , но сложно стать мастером
+ Сервера еще работают и можно поиграть по сети
+ Хороший челлендж,к середине и к финалу игру вы хоть и будете сильнее в каком-то смысле, но играть от этого легче не станет,т.к. враги пойдут более агрессивные и живучие.
Минусы :
- Музыка часто любит обрываться если вы сдвинетесь с места и побежите
- На встроенной видеокарте нет звука в игре,если ваша встройка вывезет DX11, то тогда он будет, иначе только дискретная графика.
- Нулевые....я не могу придумать еще какие-то минусы,для своих лет игра шикарна ,да и сейчас хороша.
The only downside this game has is, needs some love or a remaster and more people in Multiplayer.

This game is so fun.
Get it on gog the co-op is busted and there is no fix at all. Its a bad port and adding classic to the title is odd considering they didn't remaster or add anything they took stuff away. All you're paying for is achievements and the gog version actually includes functioning online. Go with gog.
