Misleading - I'm sure given time, you could make something amazing. But it feels unnecessarily complicated to use.
No left turns, you have to edit your own every time (no "snapped" rotation). Controls aren't clear, and the tutorial just teaches you how to walk around the room - nothing else. I haven't tried anything else, because I spent so long just trying to figure out how to build out a table, and put some basic pieces of track down, that I got bored.
I had no idea this existed and was impressed and indulged in a world of wonder, Ive already learned how to make my own little model railroads and have had so much fun running many types of locomotives and rollingstock this community has to offer in its workshop. Would def recommend this game to anyone who loves trains!!!

I can't say that enough. This game is not only a Train sim but is also a City builder and a landscape builder. This game is fairly easy to learn and play around with and I found it to be a great way to spend hours with. Plus you get to ride the cars and trains you place on your maps.

Great game.
Only problem is that it's made for VR so PC controls are pretty bad when it comes to prop placement. Track and other placement controls are pretty good though.
It's made in Unity so if controls were more like Unity / Maya etc, that would make iteration way faster and easier.

steel mills, blast furnaces, and coke furnaces
with all the industry stuff going on it would be cool to make production chains
like having you bring coal to a coke furnace to turn into coke which is then transported to a blast furnace to make molten steel and slag which is put into crucible cars the slag cars being dumped at a safe location and the molten steel being delivered to another part of the facility to make steel rolls and beams
you could apply this to many other materials in the game as well
For even a shallow model railroad enthusiast as myself this game is awesome I can imagine if you are deep into this would be even better.

It is a great game! Heavily supporting mods and now with multiplayer, it's very cool! If you like trains and you like games, then this would be a good game for you! The multiplayer system should help the game thrive, and now with it, people can recreate movies (Such as unstoppable) without needing to do a lot besides coordination and other things. This leads to better roleplay and more good youtube films. I love this game and have owned it for a loooong time. Very fun. :D
This game is rather a program than a game. It has some gameplay to it, but it's very simple and light. What this game is amazing at is building your own model railways. I really like how you can play with it. The number of things you can build is almost infinite. Probably the only limitation is your own imagination. Despite minor bugs it has no problems. I was thinking if it was worth the price but surely it was! I like trains, I like building stuff, so I've told myself, why not? Bought it. I didn't regret it for a second.

Nifty game for developing your own dream model railroad layout! Reasonably helpful set of tutorials which gives one a head start in making their own design. Bit of a learning curve but then what game doesn't have a learning curve when you start with a beginning knowledge base? Try things, keep what you like, discard the rest. Many helpful tools, example layouts, buildings, locomotives, etc in the game workshop section. All free! IMO, scenery details are kind of sketchy. Would prefer more realistic trees, shrubs, waterfalls, etc. In the end, I returned Rolling Line to concentrate on other Winter Sale purchases. May repurchase at a later date when have more time and hopefully, scenery items have been made more realistic. I would give it an 7 out of 10 rating.
I’ve spent about 4 hours in Rolling Line and had a blast. It’s a lovingly-made model-railway sandbox with a clean low-poly aesthetic and surprisingly deep building tools — you can build layouts, place scenery, and drive trains at tabletop or full-scale.
Controls on the non-VR version feel smooth and intuitive (I particularly liked how the speed and acceleration options let you tune train behavior), and the game gives you both exploration and hands-on railroading — drive from the cab, walk around miniature mode, or manipulate the layout. Recent updates added quality-of-life features like optional smooth speed control and customizable menu modes.
One of the game’s biggest strengths is the community: the Steam Workshop is packed with thousands of player-made layouts, liveries, train mods and props, so there’s always fresh content to download and play. The game also supports VR if you ever want to try that perspective.
Runs great on my setup (CachyOS Linux - no VR) I had no stutters or crashes during my session, which made the whole experience feel polished and cozy. If you like relaxed creativity and trains, Rolling Line is a delightful, well-crafted little sim.
This game is very fun and relaxing to play its even better with mods from the steam workshop wich i would recomend geting the learning curve for building layouts is very mild and its very easy to pick up. 10/10 Game.

Gave it a try. Track laying and scenery construction is way too cumbersome to make it worth the time. People have made some fantastic models but creating anything other than a loop on a flat surface to run them on will test your patience.
As a casual model railroader (KATO N-scale) I don't understand why the game was designed to be a "virtual model railroad" and not just a railroad builder. The additional layers of drawers, benchwork, room size etc. detract from the game. I want to build a big railroad not a big "virtual model railroad".

BEST MODEL TRAIN GAME EVER
Enjoying it a lot. I'm not very creative but managed a small down, pond with an abandoned cabin and also a farm area with a few grain elevators. I love just watching the trains move around. I had refunded this once back in the day but the improvements have more then made it worth it. If I would have known the developer would have continued putting so much effort into this game, I would have kept it to support it.

I had rolling line in my steam library for quite a while and mostly overlooked it until I within the past few months noticed updates and was looking for another game to play. However, after ten hours into the game currently as I’m writing this review, I have to say that I enjoy what it has to offer.
It is basically a virtual train set game where you can pick the layouts you want by downloading content made by the rolling line community in the steam workshop or you can design and create your own layout and track options from scratch. Theres also a ton of rolling stock available off the workshop as well and I really like the American locomotives and rolling stock.
The routes made by the community are really well done as well. Some real American trainlines such as Blue Island, Illinois, majove pass and many others. Theres also a good amount of fictional layouts/routes as well such as my personal favorite, the polar express.
The recent Christmas update and the Christmas train is so awesome as well! I went to see the real one a few years ago, and it’s nice seeing it and being able to drive it on my virtual train set. The controls for this game were I have to say a bit of a learning curve for me. I had to take some time to figure them out, but I eventually got it and mastered the controls. (Tools, track placement, operating trains etc).
I had to watch a few videos on YouTube, do the tutorials and google things as well which wasn’t bad. I personally did not like the VR menu mode at first, because I thought you could not turn it off, but eventually I discovered you could.
Overall, I think it’s a fun and unique game for any transportation lover or train fan, or if you’re looking for another game to play on steam. Ill definitely be playing rolling line more often.

It might take a couple of hours for you to get use to the commands, but then you realize this is pretty much a SCARM in 3D with endless possibilities. It's a must have for train modelers.

There is a serious learning curve. It requires learning external software and a lot of time investment to create anything remotely good looking. I imagined whipping up models over the course of a couple hours but absolutely no, it requires a significant amount of time, time I just do not have as an adult. I also got motion sickness from using this simulator, and I don't normally get that. I'm really disappointed with how much the game does not deliver as baked-in.
Realized I hadn't given this a million out of 10 rating, have now made that right. Back to modeling I go

Such a great and fun game. I loved how in no time I was able to learn how to build. Also moving cars is another feature I personally love. But in my opinion being able to change and add properties to the games assets especially track and roads is a key favorite of mine. But a great game being honest and I hope for more!

Fun model railway simulator that works in VR aswell!
Here's a few of the main keypoints i've noticed so far:
+ Very easy to customize pretty much whatever you want, be it scenery, detail, livery etc.
+ VR compatibility
+ Multiplayer mode
+ Ability to look at the layout as a model railway, and the ability to walk on the layout and interact with it
+ Weather and time settings
+ Tons of mods (which are surprisingly easy to make even within the game)
+ Huge database of mods on the steam workshop, easy to install / uninstall
+ Developers are connected and interact with the community, always a good thing!
> Controls are a bit wonky to get used to, but still easy to manage
- Absolutely eats up your GPU with large maps / a lot of props when settings are maxed out (kindof bummed by this one given that everything is low poly looking)
- Lights that turn on are a HUGE negative performance impact

Really fun, detailed game. It really feels like having a model railway on your pc, the trains are highly detailed. There is LOTS of customization, and its really enjoyable to control the trains and look at the scenery on the alredy existing maps. I can't imagine how immersive this has to be on a VR headset!
