Although at first i was super confused, this game was a fun addicting game to play when bored. It can also teach you about ecenomics and physics! Cool, right.
YOU CAN TIE THIS GAME TO OPENRCT 2! see the instructions in the community, it allows you to log your hours using the updated UI and endless customisability.
This game is basically the new solitaire or minesweeper on windows for us millenials, its easy to run on any machine, and timeless classic that Ill teach my kids to play too. AAA can lick my doggy bone, this is the game to play of the ages!

This game is nostalgic for me. I played it a lot as a kid and didn't understand it at all, but enjoyed building rides. Now that I'm older I can navigate some of the managerial portions of the game. Plus, if you are ever feeling a twinge of evil, you can build an incomplete rollercoaster, over accelerate the escape hatch ride or build a bathroom without a way to get to it (rubs hands together diabolically whilst smiling with evil). Anywho, it's a great game! I'm also a huge fan of pixel art and that style of game, so that just adds to my enjoyment.

1. CD Einlegen Fehler
Das Spiel muss nach dem herunterladen "installiert" werden, da es nach einer CD verlangt.
Man muss im Steam Ordner (:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Rollercoaster Tycoon 2\Install\setup.exe) das Installationssetup ausführen.
2. Kompatibilität nicht gegeben
Das Spiel wurde gefühlt 1 zu 1 geripped. Mein Setup (GTX2070 Super, 3 Displays) kann das Spiel nur mit viel "Vorsicht" spielen. Will ich die Auflösung bspw. ändern, schließt sich das Spiel. Es schließt sich auch sonst sehr gerne, sobald ich raus tabbe, es minimiere, die Windows-Taste berühre etc.
Es ist schön, die Nostalgie des Spiels zu sehen und spüren, aber leider wurde hier nichts optimiert oder angepasst. Das Spiel ist eine tote Nummer. Da fährt man besser wenn man es sonst wo runterlädt und so spielt... Schade, verschwendetes Geld.
Its not just nostalgia bait. This iteration hold its own. I miss this style of gameplay.
I use to only build my own custom parks, now I see the fun in the challenge parks as well.

[b]What I Played:[/b] I originally sank countless hours into this as a kid, building death coasters and charging guests $20 for the bathroom. Fast forward to now — I discovered OpenRCT2, installed it on a whim, and somehow lost another 116 hours of my life. No regrets. This game had its hooks in me in 2002 and apparently nothing has changed.
[b]The Good:[/b]

[*]The core gameplay loop is genuinely unmatched. No modern theme park sim has nailed the satisfaction of designing a coaster from scratch, watching the excitement rating climb, and then watching 3,000 guests line up for it. The scenarios give you just enough structure to stay focused without feeling boxed in.
[*]OpenRCT2 turns this into basically a modern game. Widescreen support, fast-forward, multiplayer, cheats menu, bug fixes — it's like a community-made remaster that actually respects the original. Playing vanilla in 2026 would be rough, but with OpenRCT2 it runs better than most games released last year.
[*]The Triple Thrill Pack content is massive. Between the base game, Wacky Worlds, and Time Twister, there are so many scenarios I'm still finding ones I never touched. The variety keeps things fresh way longer than you'd expect.
[*]It's genuinely relaxing. After a long day I just throw on some music, open a sandbox park, and zone out building stupid coasters for an hour. Perfect comfort game.

[*]The vanilla version without OpenRCT2 is painful on modern systems. Resolution locked, no scroll wheel zoom, crashes on some setups. You basically need the mod to play comfortably, which means this purchase is really just a license for the assets.
[*]The AI pathing is still hilariously bad. Guests will wander in circles for hours while a food stall is ten feet away. Some things never change.

[b]Verdict:[/b] [b]Recommended[/b] - Buy this, install OpenRCT2, and enjoy one of the best management sims ever made. 116 hours in and I'm still loading it up on weekends. They literally do not make them like this anymore.
Great game for management and creating custom parks and rides like roller coasters, go-kart rides, flumes, and much more. This game has a wonderful community and a loyal following. Despite being an older game, and not receiving any OFFICIAL updates form the devs, the games receives updates utilizing OenRCT2 from the community that keep this game running and fresh.
This was the first proper video game I ever played. I got it in a box of cinnamon cheerios back in September 2004 or so.
This game is the pinnacle of childhood video game nostalgia for the very simple reason that it was my first.
I'd recommend using OpenRCT2 after buying this.

This game just will NOT work on Windows 11 normally. It refuses to run and If you use "run with Windows 95 Compatability" it will sometimes open to the main menu before crashing if you're lucky. The only way to play it is to use Open RCT2 and point that program at the game files.
Both the first and second games crash either at the main menu or just before you reach the main menu. What's the sense of posting these games if they crash and you can't use them?
Edit: that mod doesn't even make the game fully work either. Still getting random crashes and glitchy audio. It's not worth it to get this game sadly, not on Windows 11 anyway.

Probably played this for hundreds and hundreds of hours as a kid after I installed this from my cousins disk. It ain't nostalgia it's just perfect.
RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 is a very addictive game. I spent hours building tracks and paths and managing the best park for my guests. This version is very good because it even improves the attractions and scenery compared to RCT1. Moreover, with the OpenRCT2 update installed, even more features and multiplayer are available. 🎢🌳

I remember this game when I was a kid and played only the demo version.
When I was in the first grade at the school the one who had a birthday and installed this game on school's PC with teacher's permission and we had a lots of fun playin this.
Nowadays I'm playing this sometimes using OpenRCT2 engine(recommended for nowadays) and for Linux I use Luxtorpeda.

It says i only have under an hour played, but that is because you SHOULD play with OPEN RCT2 installed. sure it wont count your steam time, but it makes the game a million times better to play. i have spent probably about 300 hours in this game when i was running on a pc that couldnt even run 3D graphics, and ♥♥♥♥ dude this game is just a great time. its a timeless classic and im sure most of that is nostalgia. If you are unsure of buying it. get it on sale and try it out with OPEN RCT2. if you dont like it even after that, atleast you can still get a refund if you played mroe than a handufll of hours

This game rules, but not as much as when you couple it with Open RCT2, look it up if you haven't heard of it, it makes this game 100x better and it was obviously great already.
It's pretty fun even to this day. It does take some time to get used to it sense nothing's labeled but if you're patience is in check this does become a pretty easily fun tycoon title very customizable and very well made for it's time...still better made then tycoon games that came after it...now that said if you got a strong PC then run planet coaster and the like sense that one is better but hey if you can't run that one and or don't have the spare cash for it give this one a shot for a bit. You won't regret it

Still The best roller coaster experience for me and my dinosaur brain. Tons of hours in the 2000's. Just the right amount of managing etc for me. Like a good home cooked meal, sometimes you just need it!

Na vele jaren zonder Rollercoaster tycoon 2 is het me helemaal duidelijk waarom ik dit graag maanden of misschien wel jarenlang speelde. Niet te moeilijk om te spelen maar ook niet te makkelijk. Lekker ontspannen een beetje achtbaantjes, attracties en snacktentjes bouwen en maar hopen dat de inkomsten voldoende zijn om snel weer het volgende te kunnen bouwen. Ik blijf het een geweldig spel vinden.

Rollercoster Tycon 2 (in der weiteren Beschreibung abgekürzt als RCT2) Steam Edition auf WIN 11 SPIELEN (auf Deutsch - normal Version ist auf Englisch) ohne andere Grafikprogramme etc...:
Für alle Nostalgie Fans hier eine kleine Schritt für Schritt Anweisung. (es gibt zwei Videos auf Youtube die man zusammen kombinieren muss)
1. Ganz normal Steamspiel "RCT 2" installieren OHNE Desktopverknüpfung.
2. Im Steamspiele Ordner RCT2 finden (meistens unter Steamapps/common/Rollercoster Tycon2)
3. In den Install Ordner gehen und einen unterordner "Neu Install" einrichten
4. Im install Ordner "setup.exe" finden (heißt normal nur noch Setup und ausführen - nun wird das Spiel neu "alt" installiert
5. Bei der Installierung den Speicherordner "Neu Install" als Pfad auswählen, damit RCT 2 dort hinein installiert wird.
6. Wenn fertig installiert: Nicht registrieren bei Atari (also Fenster mit "close" schließen)
7. KEINE Desktopverknüpfung anlegen, "readme" nicht anzeigen lassen
8. Ihr geht in euren neuen Ordner "Neu Install" (im Pfad), dort befindet sich eine "RCT2.EXE" (ohne das exe im Namen) diese kopiert ihr und fügt sie anstelle der rct2 exe im normalen Grund Rollercoster Tycon 2 Ordner ein.
HINWEIS: Nicht im Install Ordner einfügen sondern ein Pfad "vorher"
9. Ihr überschreibt somit die alte rct2.exe mit der neuen. (im HIntergrund müsste diese nun ersetzt werden und ihr werdet auch gefragt ob sie ersetzt werden soll.
10. Ihr regt euch kurz auf, dass das Spiel immer noch nicht geht (so ging es mir zumindest)
11. Ihr geht in den Ordner "Autorun" (Pfad: .../rollercoster tycon 2/Install/Autorun) und öffnet "LANGUAGE" dort ändert ihr 2 Dinge: "default=0x09" in "default=0x07" und "lang=0x07" in "lang=0x09"
Speichern und schließen
12. Ihr geht zu Steam, geht rechtsklick auf das Spiel - Verwalten und ändert die Sprache von Deutsch auf eine x beliebig andere. - Steam führt dann ein kleines Update aus. Danach ändert ihr die Sprache zurück auf Deutsch.
13. Wir haben es fast geschafft!!!
14. Ihr geht zurück in euren Speicherordner zu der RCT2.exe im Pfad: .../Rollercoster Tycon 2 (NICHT IM PFAD INSTALL) die ihr eingefügt habt.
Auf diese klickt ihr mit rechtsklick und kopiert sie auf den Desktop. - ihr erschafft eine Desktopverknüpfung.
15. Rechtsklick auf die Desktopverknüpfung - "Eigenschaften"
ihr geht auf "Verknüpfung" und darunter auf "erweitert" dort stellt ihr ein das ihr diese Verknüpfung als Admin ausführt. (Häkchen setzen)
16. letzter Schritt: Ihr bleibt in dem Fenster "Eigenschaften" und findet dort die Auswahl "Kompatibilität" dort geht ihr drauf und findet ein ausgegrautes Feld in dem man folgendes einstellen muss:
Häkchen bei "Programm im Kompatibilitätsmodus ausführen für" setzen
und dann Auswählen - Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
Herzlichen Glückwunsch du kannst nun auf Deutsch die Steam Version spielen und dabei viel spaß haben.

Fun. It's comforting to not have a bunch of HDR high-polygon animations and high requirements. The graphics are sufficient, and the sound is more than enough. Some of the dialogs in-game dump the full-screen out on closing... but I can click back in from the task bar easily. It's an annoyance. The game is solid and fun, tho.

It's a great classic for the rollercoaster-builder genre! I grew up with the original CD, being able to buy it here is cool, and also easy to setup with OpenRCT2 to play this game on modern devices! I personally use OpenLauncher to download and maintain the mod, but it's a great add-on to an already great game.
Play it for fun, nostalgia, or even just to see what a well-made 2002 game looks like.
