I am sorry to say I cannot recommend this game I tried many times to like it but even thought it was addictive - it fails to deliver if constant hardcore death is your thing again and again and again gets really tiring after a while to point enough is enough

Modern gamers stay away. Patient boomers that want to play a tabletop game and laugh at constantly dying to things outside of your control --Grab a bear and roll the dice. Again and again, and again, if you can just laugh it off 'cuz it has very little to do with you...
This game could be decent, good even but suffers from bad design choices.
1) Terrible conveyance of information. There are Many game mechanics with NO information offered anywhere ever. Which is odd because the developer started with such a beautiful game mechanics overview. But it looks like over time(many years) they kept adding features and didn't update the manual.
*This game is not 'hard' in the typical sense of requiring skill. It is straight up *BORKED*!
2) RNG is crazy. First step in the game and a nearby enemy hits an alarm trap that instantly teleports 5 strong opponents(Daemons) that would be impossible to defeat even 1 on 1. This game falls into the rare but needlessly frustrating group of games that are much more 'difficult' at the start and gets easier the more you play. I am judging this to be 'bad design'.
3) Part of the crazy RNG swing is due to the 2D6 system being unnecessarily out-of-date(simple). It would be easy to convert to a 1-100 random number generation for all game mechanics which would allow much more granularity and control. 2-12 with modifiers is 10+ steps. Which creates WAY too many opportunities for RNG to disempower the player by having the player actions not matching game outcomes.
4+) The poisons last a comically(unnecessary) long time.
The ai behind some of the critters is intentionally frustrating to stay in your way so that you may accidentally attack them while you are in their line-of-site. When moving beyond their L.O.S. they will start to wander differently.
etc. etc. there are many examples of what i perceive to be lazy developer or 'bad'(not fun) choices.
I have watched dozens of hours of gameplay tutorials from 'top' players and i still have died 60 times. And none of the deaths have felt good or that it was from a mistake from the player input. They all felt like the game just popped up some BS and insta-killed. You can say 'get good' or learn from it but at some point it can also be said the game numbers are out of balance for many mechanics. Just a bit of tweaking here and there and this game could be so much more accessible to a wider audience and thereby monetarily successful. And it is not necessary to compromise if the developer wants to make a hard-to-master game, or have some areas or bosses very difficult. The developer could learn from the publicly available code of Tales of Maj 'Eyal for some ideas how to offer better granularity while making a strong difficulty curve. I am a stubborn fool so i 'may' try to beat this game if RNGsus lets me. Then i will happily uninstall it, and never touch anything by this dev/studio again.
It could be that this game just isn't for me even though I really want it to be. I want to support indie developers and especially those making cool art or niche games. So, I have bought all but the newest DLC. I like the graphics. I like the idea behind the game. Maybe as i get older i am less tolerant for unnecessary frustrations that could be easily mitigated with a reasonably small amount of effort. I am finding that i am less and less able to tolerate just straight up BS from laziness or bad design. idk, take what you will from this. Some people may love this game. So far my several hours of attempting to get past the initial RNG has not been 'fun'.
TL;DR
My take is that It is meant for an older generation of table-top gamers. That at the time didn't have the benefit of the many decades of game design theory that we have today. And the 2D6 system does not translate well to a fun computer game experience. Especially with very lacking conveyance of information regarding game mechanics(that are often instantly lethal).
Cool game
This game is a lot of fun and there is more depth to it that you think after you first start. It is also unforgiving and even unfair at times so you will need patience to make it past the first few hours. It is the kind of game that gets easier as you learn more
This game is intentionally extremely difficult and very random - a bad dice roll can instantly end an otherwise good run.
My tip for anyone picking this up: "S" key is your friend. Avoid traps, gives XP, and some times 90% of the whole dungeon is behind a hidden door.
Coming back to this game after playing it around 2016. I note two major changes:
1) The card game that's been included is fun, but lives in its own universe. I would rather it be a part of the village/tavern section, not active dungeon gameplay. It kind of takes me out of the core gameplay loop. It's also not nearly as in-depth as the dungeon exploring and fighting mechanics.
2) The new curio items and their "flavor text" are more of a miss rather than a hit. I don't care about politics but a couple of item descriptions are intentionally trying to trigger "the woke left". This also takes me out of the game and reminds me of the ♥♥♥♥ world I live in.
All in all, still an excellent core gameplay loop in a simple-looking package, the latest additions let it down somewhat. Insane value for price.
Fascist dog whistles - the roguelike.
The game is a rogue style game similar to other mystery dungeon stlye games, except it is littered with messages against women, education, zero empathy for others and all the other 'classic' wrong wing messaging tropes that have become all too common in today's world.
We have the manual saying the women always cheat.
We have a "Palsy mushroom" making jokes about people with facial conditions like 'woke pop stars'.
We have achievement names like "Don't Tread on me", 'Second Amendment', and 'Triggered Much?' along with "Drain the Swamp" where you have to name a weapon Orangutang and kill 50 swamp monsters.
There are of course many more places where the obvious lack of humanity seeps through and only serves to discolor all the gameplay that surrounds it. I just finished a side quest where they introduce some sort of Slay the Spire card collecting game. Why? Because apparently every single game has to have some sort of card game mechanic I guess. What's even more fun, it can kill your character if you lose (for real). If you have your character respond "That's crazy!" (because it is), they decide to have the NPC respond with "Crazy? Imagine paying for gender studies." and at that point I decided to write this in case anyone else out there actually cares about humanity anymore and wants to know about this sort of stuff before you pay for it..
This is the kind of 'agenda driven game' that people who use those terms love to complain about, except they LOVE this agenda. Isn't it not funny how that works?
The game itself is okayish. There are a lot of times where the inputs get messed up and I'll move a square when I'm trying to just investigate it. The command list isnt as insane as something like ADoM, but it feels jankier somehow.
The game tries to model skill checks with d3s and d6s, but it typically ends up feeling like you die to the dev's clear loathing of others more than 'skill issue' type deaths. Had a few games where I literally spawned in next to a fully armed humanoid. 1 turn later, time to reroll. Not often, but so far 3 runs have ended like that. Poison can also be an easy run ender in just a few turns if you happen to get a couple bad turns in a row.
Yes, you can unlock things that will make the game easier over time, and I may do so, but I'll also be noting and updating this review as I find more examples, because they're there.

I had a fun 9 hours, but I want to see a *little* progress in all that time. Pity. Was nearly very good.
A labor of love. Lots of detail to "get lost in." And in all those hours, I never won. One of these days.
This game is truly hard, but it's pretty fair. You end up dying mostly to carelessness and to being cocky after the initial couple of dungeons. You always need to be prepared and not blindly rush through a door or you end up with an arrow in your stomach and a dead character. People seem to hate the difficulty, even though it is part of the game to die and learn why and how to avoid it next life. If each life you learn something and unlock heritages, then the next life you are going to live for longer. Quests are hard, you can't just go in a quest without being completely prepared for many eventualities, and even then, there is a high chance of death, but that's part of the game.
At first i disliked it, but after learning many things and having patience in dungeons i managed to max my character and survive many of the quests and unlock many heritages as well as completing challenges. I'm taking a break from the game, but i'l return to continue and play the new expansion.

The game is pretty hard.
There is an in-game tutorial that describes almost everything but the monster you are up against, but despite that you will die over and over again, sometimes its your fault, sometimes the game is just being cruel. There is no hand holding in the game and you are expected to learn by trial, and dying. A lot.
The more you play and the more heritages you unlock, will make the game easier, sometimes significantly. Even with just a handful of heritages I'm at the point where I can reach level 15 every run, having plenty of time to try to unlock more stuff or heritages

25+ different actions with an individual keybind (that can't be rebound, you can only add a secondary bind).
I played a mmo called Tibia some 20-25 years ago, a game where you could do everything you do in this game, and more. With a thousand times more intuitive & streamlined ways of control.

100% true. Also, 100% a good reason why you should not bother with this game unless you enjoy punishing yourself.
- Do you want to face enemies with no information about them, ending up dying because they turned out to be too powerful?
- Do you want to randomly die to a trap while exploring?
- Do you want to try a quest that you have no idea about the difficulty, and end up being stomped because the stairs out become unusable once you enter the dungeon?
- Do you want to start the game and IMMEDIATELY die to some normal-looking enemy?
- Do you want to start the game and walk three steps, trigger a hidden tripwire, causing a bag of loot to fall from the ceiling which crushes and kills you?
This game has serious difficulty issues. The traps are brutal, and they are everywhere. Even if you search an area, you aren't guaranteed to find them. Am I expected to spam the key to search every step I take just to avoid certain doom? Every move you make is an RNG time bomb.
How about selling things in town? Hold on just a minute! You can’t sell that sword, it’s unidentified! Just like 90% of items you pick up. Now if you want to sell that item, you have to identify it first. Then, hand over the gold and find out it’s worth less than the price to identify it! Ha ha! More blind gambling that you have to mind-numbingly figure out the hard way in to poverty and death.
The most ridiculous game mechanic yet? Shopkeepers who won’t buy your items if their tiny inventory is full. You want them to free up space? Spend 50 gold to skip a night. 50! Am I staying at a 5 star inn or something!?
Remember the good old days when Deckard Cain would identify items for free? Even Diablo himself is afraid of this game’s economy. Don’t “stay awhile and listen.” Get out there and hoard everything!
Another issue is keybinds. Sure, there are some useful ones, but the most important functions are locked to the left and right mouse buttons. It would be a huge improvement to have an alternate keybind for these.
Do you need some more evidence of a game that is too difficult for its own good? Just take a look at the achievements attained by percentage of players. There are 610 achievements in total. 47.1% of players have the very first one. The second, third and fourth are all in the 20 percentage range. After that it plummets into single digits.
Ultimately, something has to change, or this game will never find a player base. In its current form, it’s just a spiteful, unfun, and unfair chore to grind.

Система «Heritage» — гениальная подстава: Умер? Не беда! Следующий персонаж получит бонусы от предыдущего. Звучит круто, но на деле это просто способ заставить тебя сказать: «Ну ладно, ещё одну попытку, ради этого бонуса». А потом ещё одну. А потом уже 3 часа ночи. 🌙
Ловушки везде: Ты думаешь, что безопасно? Ага, конечно. Наступил на плитку — бах, шипы. Открыл дверь — бах, валун. Просто постоял — бах, с потолка упал сундук и раздавил. Паранойя — твой новый лучший друг.
Бой «нажми и молись»: Твоя стратегия: нажать «Атака», потом «Спецприём», когда он зарядится, и надеяться, что рандом будет на твоей стороне. Иногда работает. Иногда ты просто смотришь, как твой герой получает по лицу и умирает. Весело! 🎲

Рандом, который учит: Да, иногда ты умираешь из-за неудачного броска кубика. Но со временем ты начинаешь видеть паттерны, учиться рисковать и понимать, когда стоит бежать. Это не баг, это фича — игра учит тебя думать.

DLC-контент: Разработчики продолжают поддерживать игру (вышло DLC Expertise в 2025!), добавляя новый контент, механики и способы умереть. Игра живёт, и это круто.

Ретро-графика: 16-битный пиксель-арт, который не стареет. Просто, стильно, ностальгично. Как игры, в которые ты играл в детстве, только с большим количеством способов умереть.
Звук: Минималистичный, но атмосферный. Тихий шорох в темноте, лязг меча, зловещий гул — всё это создаёт напряжение. Наушники обязательны.
Юмор в деталях: Описания предметов, диалоги, названия ачивок — везде чувствуется ирония разработчиков. Игра не воспринимает себя слишком серьёзно, и это подкупает.

Глубокая система прокачки без классов — свобода билдов.
Идеальный баланс между рандомом и навыком (после 20 смертей).
Огромное количество контента и достижений.
Постоянная поддержка и обновления от разработчиков.
«Just one more run» — главный наркотик рогаликов.

Высокий порог входа: новичку будет больно (но это часть опыта).
Иногда рандом действительно несправедлив (привет, стартовый даэмон).
Интерфейс и управление — на любителя (мышь + клавиатура, не всем удобно).
После 50 часов начинаешь видеть кубики d6 в реальной жизни.

很精致的rogue游戏，并且完全还原了动漫里普通冒险者攻略地下城的情景（那就是要做好应对各种突发情况的准备！）
你会从很快被秒了，到不盲目交手，收集装备，探周围陷阱，拼凑属性
然后地下城的杂鱼渐渐不能奈何你了。但是你会遇到有名有姓精英怪。在某次清空地牢之后你发现你不能回城，有人来堵你了！也就是遭遇战！
然后你开始像一个冒险者一样，带一堆保命物品在身上，卷轴，药水，法杖，酒，烟雾弹，备用首饰......提升容错。
然后你会发生，格子不够用。但你很快又会捡到各种袋子。以及现场销赃的法术项链。但即使这样，身上也很快堆满金币。然后你会发现探索50%就可以回城的项链，以及回城后可以立马返回原本地点的遗物。
至此，你开始肆无忌惮的带一堆有的没的在身上。
也许你在11级左右就会遇到冰霜女王艾特娜，带着两头魔兽，你双手拿着大剑难以靠近她，但时常备了多种方案的你贱兮兮的拿出了燃烧法杖，顷刻解决了魔兽，并依靠装备和卡视野冲到了法师跟前。
也许你马上又会遇到艾特仁王子，他带了一堆射手，还打死了你精心培养的老婆，身上免疫不全装备也不成套的你很难受，武器被打掉的你拿出备用武器又被打掉了，地上尸体太多了根本翻不出主力武器，但没关系，你身上带的保命手段够多！治疗药水也喝了，酒液喝了，一个烟雾弹先缓一缓，还有机会！
过关斩将后，你的容错越来越高，装备和附魔的愈加完善。
直到现在，我偶尔也会犯一些低级错误，比如把召唤卷轴朝圣骑士达维德的背后丢，虽然很尴尬，但没有关系！

Игра очень нишевая. ТОЛЬКО для ценителей таких вот традиционных, пошаговых, не прощающих ошибок рогаликов. И тем не менее в игре одна из самых богатых мета-прогрессий. Если вы не потеряете самообладания после 5-10 смертей на 5-10 шагу, то со временем ваш персонаж начнет стартовать в броне, с мечом в место кинжала, дополнительным оружием, благословленными и зачарованными вещами, сумками, зельями, питомцем-компаньоном (у которого тоже есть мета), знаниям и талантами, которые помогут выживать дольше, а может и пройти игру. В игре есть челлэнджи с наградами, крафт, мини-игра декбилдер (порой весьма полезная в забегах, со своей метой, своими достижениями стим и своим боссом), личное убежище и, внезапно, рыбалка. Так же есть квесты - стандартные для каждого рана в городе (как в ADOM) и случайные при отдыхе в гостишке (может выпасть, а может и нет, типа подземелья снов в Dungeonmans). 对掌机steamdeck完全没有优化，中文字体缺失，甚至连常见的汉化错误，比如乱码以及小方框都没有，直接全都是空白。
TL;DR: In a way, it's sort of like a serial sex offender. It's really good at what it sets out to do, but maybe you don't always want it to be.

Difficulty. It's not actually unfair, but the severity with which it punishes mistakes is akin to blood-eagle'ing a 3rd grader for failing a math problem. Something I like to say is that this game requires at least some combination of mental illnesses and/or personality disorders to earnestly enjoy its challenge aspect.
Another thing that "jimmies certain rustles" is the semi-modest number of ideologically charged anti-pozzed jokes (or as some would call them - acts of thought terrorism) peppered throughout the game. They... don't land consistently. But for what it's worth, they also don't suck consistently. Overall, while I don't think they add much, those are nonetheless *my* side's jokes and therefore that makes it okay. No, I'm not kidding.

Visuals are good. They're not impressive, but that's not important. What's important is they are coherent. The maps are very clean and easy to navigate. The monsters are all approximately as dangerous as they look. UI only shows what it needs. Compared to its competition Rogue's Tale feels downright IMMERSIVE, and that's one hell of a rare boast for a trad roguelike.
Controls are great. They're lightweight and work wonderfully with mouse if you're one of those heretics like myself who plays trad roguelikes with only one hand on the keyboard. Everything is but a couple keystrokes or clicks away, like a normal videogame, and there's no need to commit more keybinds to memory than you could find on an airplane control pannel.
Mechanics are intuitive. Rogue's Tale has standardized mechanics, rigid boundaries, impactful and coherent effects, it's comfortable to get into without requiring a PHD in advanced autism while still being deep enough to allow for some outlandish theorycrafting. Downright artist level of game design, don't see this kind of competence every day.
One of the absurdly few rogue-adjacent games to get meta-progression right. Purists need not apply, and can go back to huffing the expulsions of their digestive systems until they lose all brain functions from critical methane poisoning. In this game meta rewards feel:
- Meaningful. No +1.5% damage that you need to buy 500 times. You get noticable benefits and/or unique effects for each unlock.
- Earned. You're not gonna be dying in the first dungeon until you gather enough s##tcoins to buy +1.5% damage 500 times and oneshot everyone. In here you need to do achievements before you're allowed to get meta-unlocks. And you won't complete those achievements until you learn how to play. This game operates under the "You don't get it until you prove you don't need it" philosophy. No cheap hollow victories, by the time you're a demigod - you will feel like you deserved every single ounce of power you fought tooth, nail, hair, and dingleberry for.

Well I love it. 520+ hours, 100% in all 552 achievements (although to be honest, it's more like 352 because around 200 of the cheevos are dedicated to each individual collectible card so that doesn't really count), endless steam forum posts with feedback... It just overall feels like a videogame that's fun to play (which is quite ironic for one of, if not the most psychotically cruel roguelikes on the market). Rogue's Tale is in my top 10 favorite games, probably top 5. If you're anything like myself... Well first of all, you have my condolences just in general, but other than that, if you don't mind a game that HATES you, do give it a chance.

Patient testing game ......the dog will carry you so far..
You will die. A LOT. if thats not for you keep moving. but each time you die you get a little better. and thats where the joy comes from.
An old fashioned Roguelike dungeon, with lots of interesting and fun to unlock features that really spice up your experience. It's impossible to play without planning and prep, somehow even more impossible to 'beat'. It's a super challenging game that still receives updates and new DLCs (which are also great). Not at all disappointed especially given the price. It's also got a card game in it - cool.

Best Roguelike game I have played in a long time!
It's arguably poor game design choices somehow make it strangely addictive and it's ugly graphics make it strangely endearing.
I very rarely give a negative review on games, but this game is just ridiculous. You can build a character that can handle most normal fights quite well, and then you'll suddenly encounter a boss and the boss will do massive damage and have a huge health pool and take 2 turns to your 1 turn. There are a lot of debuffs in the game but other than having a different name requiring a different resist, they do more or less the same thing, which is cause you to lose control of your character in some way, and make you not be able to use your inventory or use skills.
Don't buy this game, its not fun.

You can be the best at this game and you will still bet ♥♥♥♥♥♥ by RNG and die, and if you are the best my condolences for all the time that was stolen from you by dying again an again to the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ enemy till finally after hours and hours of trying you learn(probably from forum, definitely not the wiki!) that you need this immunity/item/whatever to have a measelly chance at not dying.

I Haven't played long but i got the gist of it, this is a good game but if you are one of those people who values their time a normal reasonable amount this may not be the game for you, for example I would say about 4/5 of the times(being generous) I died wasn't because i lacked information about the intricacies of the game but because of dumb BAD luck and let me tell you bad luck is overwhelmingly more common than good luck, you would think after searching 3 times every single step you take you would find a gold coin here or there but nooo best you can hope for is spotting a trap that would have instantly killed you, the other 1/5 of the reasons I died was because I lacked knowledge... let me rephrase that... it was because i hadn't died enough times to the thing that killed me which to be fair is something that isn't uncommon in games but for some reason feels worse in this one. For example, big guy with the axe two shots me, lesson learned don't fight that guy, next time i see him better play it safe and run, wait a second he also sees me and... i'm f*cked because as far as i can tell once a guy sees you you can only run away for so long till he eventually catches up and kills you but maybe i'm a noob so correct me if i am wrong, still my previous points still stand.
So idk I will keep playing when i'm really bored hopping the RNG gods just don't freaking see me because I know for a fact they don't hand out blessings and curses in equal amounts so i am way safer just flying under the radar.
Splattercat covered this so i got it. Fun as all hell. It's brutal so if you whine about dying a lot you should pass on this. Each run gets you better at the game and unlockables that affect later playthroughs.

The game isn't bad but the programmers stupid political statements in the game makes me not want to support them. Grow up dude.
This game has a debuff that, every turn, has a chance to give you another debuff that lowers one of your stats by 1 for an indefinite amount of time, can stack, and can only be cleansed by returning to town and paying for treatment.
You can get this debuff from a basic, common enemy that spawns on the first floor of the dungeon.
Play just about any other roguelike on Steam instead, your experience will be much more fair, varied, interesting, and generally enjoyable.

Great game, reminds me of the old school games like Hack, Larn and Moria although not as deep as these it holds its own with clean 2D graphics, sound and gameplay.
Got this as a recommendation from SplatterCat . This is a Fun little dungeon crawler. Controls are not my favorite but once you get use to it , the game becomes a fun "Every step" matters rouge like. It helps that the game has some humor in it that i wasnt expecting and is kind of meta lol OFFICE APPROVED GAME
I got this game on the sale since i saw the game played by a curator i like. Turns out that the game was full of stupid political commentary sexist jokes, racist gay jokes, and rape/pedophilia jokes. idk what the point of this is when all i want is a game to play not to hear or experience one idiots personal soap box. I will not be buying games by this creator
I've got lucky with really good items, shield based on stamina from ring, amulet with chance to charm on hit and weapon with life drain. Even if dirt poor, I was so confident this character is going to go far.. Didn't want to leave items behind in my greed and decided to try jumping over spikes.
And of course I failed..
Instantly got dungeon fever which made debuffs stuck on my character and made further adventure basically impossible until healed. Barely crawled back to town while my character occasionally went blind or stumbled into the walls in confusion. While identifying and selling items to get my money for healing I misclick and equip the item known as Amulet of Pestilence. Cursed item which I cannot unequip until paying hefty sum of 50 gold, with healing being 75 I decide to cover the most crucial debuffs and go back for some precious loot I've left rusting on the dungeon floor to pay for the rest.
Little did I know the amulet I decided to keep on my neck was going to be my doom. It kept summoning rats over and over and over from the moment I stepped into the dungeon. They slowly chewed through my stamina defense, as I could not find a moment to rest, finally making me unable to attack and struck down the promising hero like he was nothing. I don't remember the last time I felt so baboozled by the game - 10/10
The stories Rouge's Tale writes in its randomness and complexity will be really something to remember, even if clunky and simple in terms of visuals
The control scheme is weird and bad. 'E' for inventory instead of 'I.' You have a limited inventory and it feels like it's optimized for a controller rather than a computer. I don't need political commentary in my games, and the worst part? I didn't think it was fun.
Best Rogue's Tale type game on Steam. Serious.
And "Mike is rite!" -- If you don't recognize this first cheat, don't worry.

Oh and it's "playable" on Steam Deck. There's some cool community button layouts, that makes it work like magic!

Great little roguelike. Simple if you want it to be, but seems complex for those that want to dive in further
Absolutely amazing Rouge like that is brutally hard but fair. Has a fantastic sense of humor too.

The game is pretty good... unfortunately the text is littered with random political comments? It's weird... and lame.
Handily one of the greatest roguelikes ever made in the most literal sense of the word. This game looks at the original rogue and says "What if we kept that highly deadly gameplay and just added more stuff to it" and runs with it. With 10 years of development and an absolutely enormous docket of content to work through you could probably play 500 hours and not see all of it. What caves of qud and Cataclysm DDA did for the complexity of roguelikes, this game instead walks back and keeps its entire design simple, elegant, lean, and hyper deadly. This is a game that expects you to learn and includes an enormous in game manual that carefully details every single buff, debuff, potion, item, skill, and rule surrounding their usage. It supplies you with every single thing you need to be successful, but you're going to have to learn, memorize, and adapt which is really the crux of the roguelike rotation that many games in the genre seem to have forgotten.
My only complaint is that there's a bunch of identity politics stuff included in some of the more recent additions that feel like cheap shots that seem to be very beneath the elegance and streamlined form of the rest of the game. If you can ignore that this is an utterly fantastic roguelike that will keep you coming back again and again.
I've enjoyed it for many hours.
I just feel like I am being punished for wanting to play a game. Unless you completely rehaul the game, I don't care how many updates you do the game, to me, the game is not fun and a complete waste of my time.

Скажу так...спробуйте) спробуйте хоча б 20 лвл апнути, бо гра тіки там починається) а там якось перший квест взяти можна, може декілька героїв вбити, вбити кохання всього життя, заволодіти сотнею ведмедів, зібрати усі гральні карти, або кров усіх демонів граалями)
і тут вже 200 годин...а король все ще живий)
