This Game does not deserve the bad recent reviews. a) its already released, calling it abandoned too soon is a joke, especially considering its a one-man mission. Of course I wished that development would continue, but I am happy either way. b) why complain about the artstyle? its easier to make and still looks great. c) the sound is really good imo d) it is challenging, so are many games. There are hints of how to play successfully literally in the trailer.

I just saw the Dev's Twitter for the first time and WOW, what a gross person. Wish I could refund this.
The game was objectively better before they introduced the Trash system that not only bogged down the logistics, but drains resources, manpower, and adds literally nothing of actual worth.
And that was basically the last content update before they pushed it to 1.0 and bailed.
Simple, unique, and weirdly fun. Cute minimalist graphics and some delightful gameplay concepts.
Throws you into the game with a "figure it out yourself" attitude. I gave it 8 tries before giving up. Not for me. Also the zoom level is way too close. It felt like playing at 640x480 on my 4k monitor.
Have a list about the less appreciated features that I really enjoy:

My partners review since he for some reason can't post this as he's been playing through my family library and doesn't "own" the game himself. He has over 200 hours and 80/113 achievements.
"Despite the routine shellshock smackdown from this unforgiving railroading simulator because of a single, tiny, stupid mistake, I adore this gem of a game. It's got quirks, and seems a bit unfinished, but you can tell the dev drowned this project in a torrential outpouring of love. There's only a few things I would want changed, without truly defeating the intentional difficulty, and it sparks my imagination with a thousand ideas that could be implemented if only I were a more capable programmer. So really, my only complaint is that there isn't more of it. Even in it's mostly-polished state, and lacking the extended development and continual addition of new content that Rimworld has, the gameplay of Rise to Ruins has much about it that I wish Rimworld and others were more like. Please, more like this. I would be so happy."
He appreciates this game enough he bothered me to post this for him. I haven't seen him this happy about a game in a while. I highly recommend this on that alone and I hope, like him, that there is more to come.
Not for everyone but if you love it you love it. Ive enjoyed the growth the developer has put into this game from start till now. I would support them again if they would develop another game. True grit was given to bringing this game to where it is today.

I've gotta say, it's been years since I played this game and the game still feels like it's... incomplete. Once you've established one settlement, there seems to be no point on building another as you will just do the same thing over again (but faster due to immigration). There is no endgame goal or victory. People might disagree with me that its already complete but do not listen to them. The game is brutal and enjoyable at early stages but once you established your settlement, there's no longer point on playing the game longer
Definitely challenging, and definitely takes time to learn. Enjoyable experience if you don't mind the learning curve and grind. Charming enough.

I've played over 300 hours on this game, so I'm confident in recommending it to others. Its very relaxing to sit back and manage my villages. The gameplay loop is very rewarding and addicting. resetting your world doesn't feel punishing at all because of all the perks you can get to make the next village stronger and build faster. Although not worked on at all really what we have is a very fun village survival sim that I recommend getting.

Eu jogo esse jogo praticamente desde seu lançamento na steam, e o jogo a alguns anos simplesmente parou seu desenvolvimento, a sorte que é que o jogo esta completo, porem mesmo assim acho que ele ainda tem muito potencial, potencial esse que esta sendo jogado no lixo por que o desenvolvedor sumiu e simplesmente parou de atualizar, se quer encerrar um jogo com alto potencial desses, pelomenos encerre disponibilizando um Kit de desenvolvimento de mods parrudo, e abra a oficina pra mods, conversoes completa e etc, pra que o jogo simplesmente não morra e caia no esquecimento.
Por isso eu recomendo não comprar o jogo, até que o desenvolvedor reapareça e continue atualizando o jogo ou caso ele permita mods viaveis e interessantes.

There's definitely [i]something[/i] here in the (albeit somewhat basic) mix of colony sim and tower defense, but the difficulty curve is so brutal, and the early game so staggeringly slow and boring, that the whole thing quickly becomes offputting. Like, I get it, survival is supposed to be fairly tough in this game, but there's only so many times I can repeat the exact same early game process of waiting over an hour for my population to increase to a workable level before it starts getting old.
5/10 -- Not irredeemably bad, but the whole "tower defense with logistics" concept has been done better elsewhere (even if not in quite the same way).

Really interesting game, sort of in the Rimworld space (though they have little directly in common). Maybe better to compare it to a really complex tower defense game? It's pretty unique, and quite well done with a lot of strategic depth. Lots of "well, I did not think THAT through well" moments that keep me coming back to tweak my approaches to defense and the build-out of my colonies.
While the game has a steep learning curve the mechanics feel satisfying and rewarding. The gameplay loop is deep and loads of fun. The struggle to survive and build up a colony feels rewarding.
Despite the fact that the game might be left under polished, it is still worth the time.
Always really liked this one. Maybe not getting any more broad anymore, but the TD stuff always contrasted nicely with how big your community can get. I remember expanding to the point it became about vanity projects. Built a big castle fortress with a causeway out from the coast. Fun and simple.
Fun time sink, but as an achievement hunter it was disappointing that I had to earn the achievements 1 by 1 in a progression tree that didn't feel like natural progression towards the achievements.
I still like this game a lot.

There are many games like it, but this one is the best. Why you ask? I'll explain:
Decent performance even in large cities
Actual threat of enemies crushing you (and thats okay)
City management does not make you wanna kill yourself
Nice effects (like flowers growing in places where mana is concentrated)
Cool effects
Spells that you must use with precision and understanding
Chill music
Meta progression (you unlock improvements to various random attributes of your town, spells or villagers that will help you later)
You can manipulate terrain AND build fortifications. Want enemies to go thru this choke point? Just make the forest grow somewhere else and block alternative paths and they will
If you fancy the likes of Rimworld, this game is right down your alley. well not exactly but let me explain.
Gameplay wise, it's pretty similar, you start with little to none, then you start gathering resources, building houses, industrial buildings, etc. What differs here from rimworld, is you're not exactly on anyone's side. Sure, you have them build houses, bear children. But you are an omnipotent deity, you only need them for to gain power. You heard me, as your village expand, so does their loyalty to you. You can have them build temples in your name. Once you have enough influence, you could drop a extinction level meatball on their faces or even role-play as Zeus.
The only downsides of this game is, as your colony expand, your colony wouldn't be able to maintain the up-keep. You'll have colonist dying left and right the starvation, but that's like in the pretty late game.
Regardless, had my fair share of fun. For it's price, it's pretty much a steal. Would recommend
When the developer jumped back into the game updates, I was super excited! That excitement died down quickly as there were no further updates and the game feels very much like an unfinished concept. There is other games out there that feel more finished and fun to play. With no further updates incoming, I can safely say, move onto another game or try it on sale.
For what it is I dont suggest buyin it. Would be great if the team was alive but they all got ran over or somethin idk.
Unfortunately this is a game that died feeling unfinished. Theres very little variety in the enemy, and even more so in the defensive structures you can make. For a game that requires constant replays, the lack of variety can make the game easily become stale and feeling like a grind simulator instead.

The game has so much potential and can be addicting, but the annoyances add up to offset alot of that from pure frustration. The only really viable way to make a defence is a maze, since A. even the strongest walls have only 400~ HP, B. The wall building AI are morons and will fail to build a multiple layer wall in one go, or build a single wall and end up outside the village, and even then take a year to build anything, C. This assumes the villagers aren't burning alive from fire despite spamming ice spells, fountains and wells to offset the summer heat, D. Even if you have perfectly functional villagers, they will walk through a fence when near an enemy, letting them in, even if you disabled said gate. Losing a town to this is awful. Also golems you summon will just walk off away from the front lines instead of dealing with the 15 headless outside. E. You have limited ammo meanwhile the enemy just spams non stop.
The game has potential and in the first few days is super fun, but after that it's just painful.

even though its not a big game, this is my most played game, and for a good reason. If you start this game, you will get hooked haha. The game is as hard as you make it (causion nightmare mode is impossible lol)

Colony management mixed with tower defense.
You start with nothing, gather food, wood, etc. Build houses and defenses, then fend off the monsters when night time comes. Wow, I fricken love this game, I'm going to play it right after this review.
My favorite thing to do is when I have a colony being overrun, I start sending out citizens en masse, to any nearby tile. The death of one colony means the birth of others!

The game just will not play for me. It seems to load up and plays music. It even shows a custom cursor that reacts when I click but the entire screen is black and there's nothing I can find online to fix this. My laptop is totally up to date, uninstalled and reinstalled, checked integrity, made sure steam was up to date. nothing.
I love this game. I would highly recommend this game to anyone who loves colony/civ management.

Juego de estrategia, con unos gráficos muy llamativos y una jugabilidad muy personal (parecido a black and white por ejemplo) donde no diriges directamente a tus ciudadanos, pero hacen lo que les mandas.. en principio.
Es uno de esos juegos que cuesta mucho entender y manejar. Yo ya llevo varios intentos y aun así, no logro entrar, pero de verdad, que quiero que me guste este juego.
Lo recomiendo muchísimo, se que tiene potencial, pero soy consciente de lo difícil que lo pone a jugadores nuevos. Será cuestión de seguir probando...
Inigualable, posta, busco y busco y no lo veo en otro lado. Rise to Ruins, tiene una combinación de mecánicas unica, la independencia de las unidades, defensa "tower defense" y golems (que me gustaria la posibilidad de que puedas enviarlos en forma de "control de area" no solo defensa) y manejo de recursos-produccion, hace que este juego siempre vuelva a mi vida.
Imagine a tower defense game but you arrive there a week before the enemies and have to run a colony to build the towers and sustain them.
(Playing on "Traditional" difficulty) It's a pretty chill experience and great for listening to podcasts at the same time

突然開竅後最近瘋狂玩，應該算很上手了
提醒幾點
1. 農場一個不夠，要多建幾個，看起來場內的蔬菜量就是生成量，最高級的農場也不太夠吃
2. 建築工不用放太多，組織工才重要，因為材料要放完建築工才會去工作，沒放完他們就是閒置
3. 神力上限夠使用收穫神術的時候，可以先把伐木工&採石工全部換成組織工，先用收穫去取得原料
4. 地圖內的古代庫里斯門保護好，光輝池保護好，一開始的神力都靠他們，庫里斯門我以每次丟五個原料為上用上限，過段時間再用，太快會爆炸
5. 有避雷針後記得覆蓋庫里斯門，不然他被劈幾次就沒了
6. 一開始控制腐化時，大火坑按暫停互動後，自己丟木頭進去，再開啟互動讓建築工建造比較快
7. 最後守城我發展成用10座庫里斯門手動丟大量怪物進去，一方面可以後得一堆神力，一方面怪物太強了守不住
8. 如果有些成就解不了（EX: 獻祭拿非利人），可能是因為用了工作坊語言包，切換回預設英文解完成就再切回來就可以囉

The game breaths creativity and imagination with a quality and passion seldom seen in projects of this scale. I applaud the developers for their ethics and development style over the years. 9/10, my only comment is that i wish this game would continue its development.

Content at the start is the same as later, just repeated over and over. Game consists of building a front line of torches and moving up, and doing this in every map with no real upgrades over time except to your "God" powers. Which mostly break up the actual fun gameplay because you cannot pause to manage your powers, so you end up just frantically trying to apply your power when you need it. UI is all over the place, like literally, why is every side covered in important widget? Why not consolidate? Silly. Villager AI is really bad, like some of the worst ever made, they will split building even when you give them priority. There's a ton of placeholder text like in the timeskip mechanic, and so on, for a "full" release. Dev has also pretty much abandoned the game due to "life" reasons and working on another game instead. There's almost no end game other than just conquering more of the same tiles with the same set pieces you have at the start. It is also needlessly difficult to the point of boredom, nothing more fun than random events like meteor showers or bodies that fall from the heavens that literally wipe you out ala Rimworld, but without any of the actual fun narrative. Speaking of boredom, the map is always the same, begging you to pick the optimal starting area, because the objective is to take over the map anyways, so why gimp yourself? I think this is a decent tech demo, but nothing more. Buy Rimworld instead if you want a colony sim or a decent TD. This game falls flat without the proper, timely updates required to breath life into this skeleton.
After more than 200 hours on the game I guess I might a short review for others. This is a colony sim, in the likes of Dwarf Fortress, Rimworld or Odd Realm. As other colony sims it is really hard and your colonies will often fail, especially when you start out.
There are quite a few things that set this one apart from others and in my opinion often make it superior. Rise of Ruins mixes in elements of god games, especially in the way you can cast spells or pick up items and colonists to put them somewhere else. Also enemies. Dropping enemies into a cullis gate is hella fun.
The other is tower defense, which is a weird addition, but it works quite well. The game has a growing corruption, which spawns enemies, which attack at night. You will have to defend your village. This adds some more pressure in an already hard game genre. But colony sims tend to get easier after you overcome the first hurdles of building up basic infrastructure. Here the corruption and monster hordes come right at the right moment to keep up the challenge. And if that still feels too scary: among the strong difficulty options you have a peaceful setting, which transforms the game into a much more classical colony sim experience.
Additionally even failed runs give you progress into additional unlockable advantages that may make your future run a little more easy.
As the mentioned number of hours I sank into it proof, this combination works very well for me and I assume there might be more like me who get invested in such a game.
To address some common criticism: Yes, the game is hard. As every colony sim you will have to learn to juggle a lot of systems. As I mentioned you have plenty difficulty options that can help you to craft the right experience for you. If it is too challenging, switch for an easier option until you have a better understanding of some of the systems.
Also, towards the mention of the game being abandoned: the game is complete as it is! Sure, there can always be things added, but the game is a complete and even rich experience, and I cannot see bugs really. All the 'bugs' I see mentioned are a misunderstanding of systems. So it is really impressive and if a single developer takes a breather after delivering such a great game, I am fully supporting it. It is not like this is a broken mess.
So overall: if you are into these kind of games, played other colony sims before, you might enjoy this one, as it shakes up the formula without losing what makes colony sims great in the first place. I cannot see any other game like this in the genre, so you might miss out if you pass it over.

Game has gamebreaking bugs. Sooner or later your villagers will stop doing anything useful and die of starvation. Doesn't matter if you have luxury homes, farm, chicken coop and animal pen fully staffed as the only things on a map. Eventually they all die of starvation, even when I spawn magic potatoes in front of them.
The developer abandoned this game years ago, don't buy this.

The soundtrack is super chill and the game can occasionally feel [b]really[/b] relaxing too, until you notice the monsters are attacking and realize you forgot to build any defences. The game feels like a complete product to me, and is enjoyable, although I admit the villagers can be a bit dumb sometimes, like crossing enemy lines just to get to a specific deer. Thankfully you have god powers to help with that!
I have enjoyed my time so far, and will definitely continue playing. A solid 8/10 at the very least.

The game is not really unbalanced, it's not really abandoned, but mostly done and playable. Have been away from it for a few years, it was great back then and I bet I will enjoy it once I get to try another round.
Is it hard? Yes. Will you make another kind of round-breaking mistake on each of your first few runs. Also yes. It's not an easy game. But it's good! pretty unique genre-mix, graphics are good and well readable.

Has a number of interesting mechanics, and is worth a play for the curious, but lacks any real depth around the tech tree, and it feels like it lacks features that you'd expect to have included. An impressive achievement in some respects, also not quite what I wanted in the game.
The tutorials are really lacking, written as a steam of thought. Feels like some early game breaking bugs exist and there isn't the community support to figure it out or check if you're experiencing a bug. Good luck.
Great in concept, horribly balanced and unclear in purpose. It's a fun game, but unless you're following a guide AND get lucky with nomads showing up/etc, then prepare to reset the world many, many times. The rogue-lite aspects are great, but they're WAY too slow to accumulate to actually offer much unless, again, you're extremely lucky.
There's a great game hidden in here, but it's buried in absolute garbage balance and progression.
An RTS-like game that depends greatly on luck is not a fun experience.
(100+ hours on an alt account) I love pacing most. It's a slow, colony sim that you've got to be thinking many steps ahead as attempting to turn on a dime leads to some frantic moments. The tower defense elements blend perfectly and the God powers don't break the balance. Very well done game.

Absolutely brilliant game. A very unique city builder which builds slowly. Very chillout but lots to do. Cant recommend enough.
I wasted a lot of time trying to overcome corruption, when I realized that it's not possible, the game changed.
