A really fun game, the only downside is that the goals for the freestyle missions (where you have to do stunts) are so high that even on easy difficulty they're really hard. But the races are fantastic, the vehicles and upgrade system is great, I love the look and atmosphere of the maps and there is more than enough content. Easy thumbs up overall.

This game is a daring rush of adrenaline and excitement. While my thrill of the chase may have been forged in the daring tracks of Jet Moto 3. Riptide GP: Renegade does carry this legacy for me and while it might not be quite as insane as the certified Classic . Riptide GP: Renegade is certainly a game that’s worth looking at to fulfil that itch.

I miss having small games like this. I remember playing the first 2 games on the Nvidia Shield Portable. Good times.

This is the 3rd game in the franchise and it's by far the best one. It's simple, straight to the point, and just fun to play. I was surprised to see that it actually has a story included. It's nothing amazing, but was nice to see. Graphically, it looks amazing. A lot of the areas are gorgeous to look at. It has a great aesthetic. And while the music isn't original, the music they selected sounds great. Definitely fits the vibe of the game.

If you like games like Hydro Thunder or Wave Racer, you'll love this game. I highly recommend giving it a try.

Rubber-banding and a cheating AI at its finest.
Broken difficulty settings.
All levels are locked and can only be unlocked by reaching place 2 in the first few races and place 1 in the last few levels.
The final tournament, the final boss, and even worse the boss levels afterward depend entirely on whether the AI bugs out and let you win by a single second. Keep in mind that this win is achieved with the best hydrojet, maximum upgrades, all speed skills, a perfect run with perfect combos, perfect boost usage, all shortcuts the AI can't even use, and on the "Easy" difficulty setting.
Most of the time, you just watch the AI whiz past at insane speed, even when using boost in combination with slipstreaming.

Very enjoyable arcade racer, with the usual cool stunts and whacky course gimmicks - very much scratches the Hydro Thunder itch. The course selection isn't enormous, but for the price you undoubtedly get what you paid, and the story/career mode is surprisingly engaging.

I remember playing one of the games in this series on my iPod as a kid. Soundtrack is short, but there a few decent songs on there. Tracks are fun and the hydrojets are cool and you can customize the colors and performance. Still really fun and pretty unique since it's a water racer. Picked it up on sale and it's definitely worth playing

It's a game that does what it does best: high-speed races on water, incorporating stunts as a useful power-up within the race itself, and offering the option to unlock abilities and modifications. It's a very fun title that will keep you entertained for a few hours. I recommend playing it for a weekend and then coming back to it later.

You're sitting in your car, driving across the asphalt and overtaking one opponent after another. You might think: "Why is this so boring?".. Yes? Then you're just like me. The more realistic the simulation, the more I start to yawn. However, there are two things that can quickly wake me up again: Either we delete the word "simulation" and replace it with "fun" (Mario Kart sends its regards), or we leave the road and head for the water (like in Wave Race on the N64). I've been hooked on jet ski racing ever since I raced my first laps over waves in Wave Race 64. But other developers are struggling to recreate this feeling in their games. So, is Riptide really that good? Spoiler: yes, but be prepared for a steep difficulty curve and a repetitive racing track experience that may prove challenging for some.

[h3] Story [/h3]

The setting is the first surprise for us and got me hooked immediately. Instead of tropical beaches with dolphins and steel drums, we find ourselves in a rather bleak future. Illegal hydrojet races are held in flooded ruins, and you must navigate one of these until you are caught by the police. Having been betrayed and expelled from the "Riptide GP" league, you must race one race after another to restore your reputation and build a new crew. You will face both human and robotic opponents, as well as waves and police officers who will also get in your way.

[h3] Gameplay & Stunts [/h3]

Sometimes we glide smoothly over calm waters; at other times, huge waves fly us into the air, inviting us to perform spectacular stunts that you can unlock for SP (Level ups). In some places, choosing the right route through the ever-changing landscape is crucial. Should we glide smoothly along the wave or let it slow us down to perform stunts? Although it's not as varied or old-fashioned as the genre's role model, Wave Race, it definitely gets the job done. There, forward and backward movements also influenced the sharpness of the turns or the position of the jet ski in the air. In Riptide GP: Renegade, the controls are more" two-dimensional", not bad or unsuccessful, but not perfect either.

You can also discover shortcuts to help you gradually master the routes. Occasionally, police officers will try to block your way or slow you down with their jet skis. However, this is only a minor annoyance, as they won't be able to stop or handcuff you unlike in Need For Speed: Most Wanted. Furthermore, when you come into contact with your opponents, you won't fall into the water, that's one big exception at least. Usually, you'll feel a slight "bump" in the battle for position, but it won't stop you completely. I really like that because it's not easy to reach the top of the field later on anyway. A fall can set you back, but the risk of this is particularly high with failed stunts.

When you are launched into the air by high waves or ramps, you can perform stunts using different combinations of the two sticks. These take varying amounts of time to complete. The crucial question is whether you will complete the stunt before landing back in the water. Depending on your speed, the height of the waves and the environment's design, you will have different amounts of time to complete the stunt, so you should think carefully about whether to attempt one. In some familiar spots, it's a sure thing, but in others, where the environment changes dynamically, it can be a gamble. You may realise while in flight that an even more complex stunt would have been possible. Or you may realise before landing: "Whoops, this isn't going to work" If you are successful, your turbo bar fills up – more for complex stunts than simple ones that take less time. With the push of a button, you get extra speed until the bar is empty again.

[h3] Pacing & Variety [/h3]

The gameplay is ultimately successful and enjoyable, albeit not perfect. In career mode, it is spiced up with a variety of challenges. Sometimes, you compete against seven opponents in classic races, most of which consist of two or three laps. However, there are also slalom courses where your mistakes are added to your overall score, as well as your time. In freestyle races, you must perform as many different stunts as possible within a set time to earn the most points. You will not be rewarded for repeatedly performing the same stunt, as this results in you losing points. In elimination races, the countdown runs repeatedly until the last driver is eliminated. Finally, there are "boss battles" where you have to race against a special character. You are simply challenged to a one-on-one duel and must use all your skills to be the first to cross the finish line. One mistake could cost you the victory.

[h3] Criticism [/h3]

Your turbo is a one-use item, no matter how full the bar is. You can't control it, and once activated, you'll use it until it's empty again. The "mobile" implementation is definitely noticeable in many areas, as it would be much smoother if you could control how long the boost lasts. The difficulty curve in the middle of the game is also rather steep for some reason. It feels like a mobile game without microtransactions. At some point, it feels as though you're forced to spend money or grind in order to get a faster jet ski and improve your speed enough to win. This might be problematic for some people who aren't "gamers" like me and prefer a more casual approach. My third and final criticism is the lack of variety in the tracks. I played this game for seven hours and only saw eight tracks in total. Yes, eight. Players have to complete these eight levels a hundred times in different challenges to finish the story mode. To be honest, if the game were half the size with the same variety of eight tracks, it would be an objectively better game. It's tedious and unnecessarily long, with the same thing repeated over and over again.

[h3]Conclusion[/h3]

Riptide GP: Renegade is a relatively small title, but it's a fairly successful jet ski racing game. While it doesn't quite measure up to the legendary Wave Race series, it's highly recommended for fans due to the lack of alternatives.

Up to four players can compete against each other via split screen. There is also an online mode which suffers somewhat from a small player base and uneven duels due to players having different jet skis. However, the upgrade system works much better in single-player mode, providing challenging yet motivating tasks. The lack of variety in the courses and repetitive elements is somewhat offset by spectacular events on the tracks and the successful jet ski feel. If you're ready to face a variety of challenges in choppy waters, give Riptide GP: Renegade a try, especially since it only costs 0,50€ / 1,00€ on a sale.

Одна из лучших аркадных гонок и лучшая гонка на гидроциклах, в которую мне довелось поиграть. В Renegade разработчики провели обширную работу над ошибками и, в отличии от предыдущей GP2, игра стала ощущаться куда целостнее и больше. Трассы стали интереснее и динамичнее, добавили новые гидроциклы и трюки. Даже появился неплохой сюжет с прописанными персонажами.
У игры один минус - затянутость. Если хочется получить все достижения, придется проходить дополнительные чемпионаты после завершения основной карьеры. Сложность в этих чемпионатах сильно выше, трассы те же, ощущается откровенно лишним. В остальном - прекрасная игра, лучше гонки по воде найти вряд ли удастся.

This game is really fun! It is similar to "Splashdown" with a little JetMoto mixed in. I like the variety of the stages and the action events in the stages. It is a fantastic casual racer when you just want an arcade style experience. The Controls are not super refined when turning, but you get used to it and with faster craft it seems to be less of an issue. I like the addition of the police chasing you mid-race, as that adds a little spice to the experience. I would recommend it if you want an arcade watercraft/hovercraft racing experience. Im not sure why no one has topped Wave Race? Is there something unappealing or difficult to program with Jetski games? This game seems to show that it is not that difficult, even if it could use a little precision polishing and better physics. Even so, this game is fun!

Я не понимаю, как так вышло, но...каким-то непостижимым образом, это игра - одна из лучших аркадных гонок что я играл.

Геймплей - конфетка. Управление отзывчивое, ритм игры быстрый, соперники вполне умелые и я не заметил rubberband'а. Ну и сама идея гонок на водных байках в футуристическом сеттинге это что-то. Подлетать на волнах, выполнять ГОРУ разных трюков - не думал, что меня это так увлечет. В наличии ещё и кастомизация персонажа и байка.

Бонусом идет неплохая графика, превосходная (!) оптимизация и просто невероятная музыка! За счет визуала, музыки и арт-дизайна у игры превосходная атмосфера. Однозначно брать. Тем более, что сама игра дешевая. Я бы и больше за нее заплатил - она вполне этого заслуживает.

从初中开始在电视上玩到的游戏，这么多年来一直心心念念想把这游戏打通。游戏的美术我很喜欢（巡洋舰是真的帅）游戏的玩法设计直到现在我觉得也很优秀，相比国内版少了很多氪金要素，我觉得算是一部不错的小品级游戏。
但是现在这游戏的线上服务器似乎已经关闭了，连都连不上，目前也不知道如何与朋友联机进行比赛。还有就是我觉得游戏剧情相比于一些大作来说还是太短了（我还没玩够

I recommend playing on the hardest difficulty because easy and medium are all just easy. The cops are super annoying on the hard and that's what I like about it. One crash will make you instantly restart the race which basically makes the game longer than it actually is. I dont want to finish the story in a couple of hours, so that's why I recommend that. Genuinely fun though

I haven't played a ton of aquatic racing games, and for any that I have, it's been too long to know how they compare to Riptide. What I can say though is that I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's got 10 different transforming watercraft to unlock and upgrade throughout the career mode, and although I wasn't too interested in it, seems offer the player a fair bit of customization. As you level up you will gain money and skill points to upgrade your craft and unlock increasingly stylish tricks to be used in the 4 different event types: Race, Elimination, Slalom, and Freestyle. Each track has a lot of personality, and although you end up playing them multiple times, they never feel stale. What I enjoyed most about this game are the times you get sent soaring into the sky by massive boosts and discovering the shortcuts in each level, which become quite useful during the endgame boss challenges. I should also mention that I played this almost entirely on Steamdeck and it works flawlessly.

Super fun game, especially multiplayer. My remarks are pretty much what all the other people before me commented on. My biggest gripe about playing this game in single player is the difficulty. If you are playing on PC, once you get to the Firewater cop race, just give up. It's a really fun game up until that point. My friends and I have easily spent 10 hours on that one race and, even with the shortcuts and at the easiest setting, the best we've done is come in second (once). What is the point of having a difficulty selection?

Easily accessible arcade racer but hard to master.

The games last few GP's are quite challenging especially the last one which is overly hard as in none of the speed upgrades or bonus unlockable boats are fast enough to earn three stars in all events which is required to get to the final boss race, there is very little room for error and you can't restart any race so if you come 6th etc in one race your screwed.

The music is really suiting and good, the graphics are not bad with some stand out moments and there are 8 tracks played out over lots of repeated events (the repeated events have different names, but it has different characters taunting you etc to create a story-like singleplayer, extra tracks would have been better) like race, elimination, slalom, scoring with tricks, because of this it really shows the how little race tracks there is in the game.

It's not a perfect game but it's fun and with the lack of decent water racers on PC this is worth a place in your collection.

Story time :

So I have this female cousin right...not the smartest of girls but has big breasts.
So naturally douchebags have always been attracted to her.
So she finds this prick who hates work but has rich parents so it's not a problem for him.
One day he was all like..."i need to find a personality so I can brag about how awesome I am to all the people on Facebook and Instagram.
Upon stumbling on this awesome game...he had an epiphany."I HAVE TO BUY A JET-SKI "
Long story short....he still doesn't work as his parents give him a monthly allowance...even tho he is 39.
He keeps cheating on my cousin regularly....and tells everyone he is a professional jet-ski racer.
So what does that have to do with this game?
Well....this game is so freakin awesome it ended up giving him some kind of delusional idea he is a pro jet-ski racer and he spends his days somewhere on the beach riding his real life jet-ski ( bought by his rich parents )and flirts with stupid chicks who believe he is some kind of jet-ski super hero and he still refuses to grow up and keeps being a burden to his parents.

I would also risk living in delusion and be a man-child with a jet-ski.
The bad thing is my parents aren't rich. They would stop talking to me if i told them I want to ride a jet-ski and avoid work and responsibilities in order to maintain a cool image on social media.
I do recommend you try this game out but don't get any crazy ideas of quitting your job and becoming a beach poser with daddy's jet-ski.

小时候在家里电视玩的激流快艇2，对这个当时画质一流，音乐带感，游玩体验一级棒的游戏入迷了，当时电视就一些贪吃蛇类的游戏，真的很惊艳。一口气玩了一个暑假，把2所有关卡打满，所有摩艇升满。后来找到激流快艇3，对一个10岁小孩儿来说真的很难吧，3没打通关。突然一天在steam看见这个游戏，心头一颤，谁知道呢，小时候心心念念的游戏8小时就通关了。每一首音乐，每一个地图，每一个特技动作都是如此熟悉难忘。我只能说，再也找不到第一次接触的激动，但是我不能否认我的热爱。50元对我来说算是回味童年了。“欲买桂花同载酒”说的就是这样的感觉了好吧

Tremendo! No pensé que me engancharía un juego de motos de agua, pero este Riptide está muy bueno. Los gráficos, aunque tienen más de 8 años, no envejecieron mal. La jugabilidad está buena, sin power-ups pero con truquitos en el aire que cargan el turbo y se ven piola.
Algo escaso en mapas, unos 9, pero bien distintos entre sí y bastante dinámicos (olas, obstáculos, mini eventos, etc.). Lo más flojo es que la campaña se vuelve repetitiva al jugar siempre los mismos mapas, con vehículos cada vez mejores.

Lo recomiendo, fue muy divertido.

Hydro Thunder has always been my favorite racing game. I love it, I picked up this because from everything I read it was very similar to. This is good and definitely inspired from it. I like all the crazy levels with ♥♥♥♥ happening all the time. The stunt system is fun. My one and only complaint about this game is the Audio, it feels out of balance. I wish the volume on your jet ski engine was much louder and when blasting the turbo or when it transforms after getting the turbos ready. My favorite boat in HT was the Tidal Blade dragster, sounded so bad ass when the turbo engine shot out and you cranked it full speed. Regardless this game is a LOT of fun if you enjoyed Hydro Thunder you should get it.

A very nice arcade - water - racing game.
Split Screen, Online Play, Single Player Career, everything is there to play a very nice arcade-like water racing game that you can play while hearing your podcast or keeping up with the news, but at the same time, interesting enough that you can play it as a main focus.
Not the most mechanically depth game, but everything else - sound, gameplay, design - is just there.
Story is very much skipable.

About 13 - 18 hours of gameplay for 100% achievements, a lot more if you play with a friend in split screen / online.

An easy recommendation if you enjoy arcade race games in general.

I got this for my eight-year-old, and it’s proven a big hit. The gameplay is pretty straightforward - no boosts or pick-ups to collect, just ramps and tricks while airborne. It’s easy to do simple tricks and more complex ones aren’t hard either (or can be attempted by frantically waggling the sticks at random). And even if you fail the stunts, it’s almost more fun to watch your rider crash spectacularly. My boy has been laughing merrily whether he wins or loses, which is pretty rare for him! Local multiplayer is a lot of fun.

On the easier settings, the AI is fairly beatable; on the harder ones, it’s absurdly difficult. The campaign mode shakes things up a little with some different race styles such as slalom and elimination, so there’s some variety, but I suspect that more sophisticated gamers will find it somewhat lacking.

The graphics are a bit dated now, but they still look decent enough, even on a big TV, and there’s a real sense of speed and excitement. The game plays very well with controllers and does feel like an old-school arcade game.

The main downside is the relatively limited track selection. There are only nine, so they do get repetitive fairly quickly, although what is here is good (and of course there are hidden bits to find in them). For the price, you really can’t complain, though I’d have been happy to pay a couple of pounds for an extra track DLC.

I'm not terribly interested in racing games, but I've always loved Wave Race 64 for its unique premise. This game is as good or better. It runs great on iOS or PC — played both myself. There's an extensive selection of tricks, tracks, and trials, making progression interesting. Racers earn money to upgrade jet-skis piece by piece. Repetitive? Well, it's a racing game. I love the secrets and shortcuts and progression. Great game, music, and graphics! I wish they'd upgrade it for 2024.

They're both terrific games. Be sure to play #1 first to better appreciate the improvements in #2.

Had 43/44 decals unlocked. Did the last thing I needed to do to get the 44th and 100% the game. In its place it gave me a literal poop decal and kept my numbers at 43/44. A quick google search revels you can't get the actual last decal unless you transfer your save TO THE MOBILE VERSION OF THE GAME and do it there. So here I am left with literal dookie in place of my final decal. To add insult to injury, the symbol I was meant to unlock is the red symbol used to label things as "blocked". I guess they thought that would be cute... To say I'm angry doesn't even scratch the surface. Whoever decided to do this can feel free to dine on the decal I was given in place of the one I earned. DO NOT download their mobile game in a desperate attempt to 100% this game. They do not deserve to be rewarded for their disgusting manipulation.

Just wanted to make sure the word on this gets out before some other poor sap with a strong completionist factor like me gets suckered out of hours of effort. Everything else about the game is plenty of fun and would have earned a MASSIVE thumbs up from me so this is most unfortunate. Happy gaming steam community! :D

One of the few games I 100%ed. Well, It wasn't all that hard to 100% because you ain't got to do anything tied to multiplayer or some hidden obscure stuff for it all you gotta do is get the best rating in every campaign race.

Still, after no game on PC has scratched that arcade racer itch after need for speed most wanted I've been looking for something like this that mostly ♥♥♥♥♥ on realism and simulation but instead focuses on a sense of speed and a rewarding boost mechanic that makes you feel like a god once you got a feeling for what drops give you enough time for increasingly risky stunts and some tracks even let you go on land where you can stunt freely until you touch water again.

Some things I'd like to mention:

- This game is also on mobile and even without a controller controlls very nice I'll continue to play it on the go
- The developer Vector Unit made a bunch more games like this in the same series and outside of it, try looking for "Hydro Thunder Huricane" tho it's not on steam
