Если честно, вторая квака мне не понравилась.
Недавно я прошел полностью первый квейк со всеми официальными DLC и остался безумно доволен: мне понравился очень быстрый геймплей, прекрасный арсенал оружия, отличный левелдизайн, интересные монстры и великолепный саундтрек группы Nine Inch Nails, который божественно вписывался во мрачную атмосферу первого квейка. В совокупности всех этих факторов, первая квака стала моим любимым бумершутером, при этом мне всего 20 лет.
Второй квейк стилистически и визуально ничего общего с первым квейком не имеет, если первый квейк - это про что-то средневековое и мрачное, то второй квейк уже про нечто космическое. Второй квейк унаследовал от первого такой же быстрый геймплей, отличный арсенал оружия, неплохих и интересных мобов, довольно неплохой саундтрек.
Но все эти плюсы рушатся к черту об левелдизайн этой игры. Это самый огромный и критически минус этой довольно хорошей игры. Левелдизайн настолько ОТВРАТНЫЙ, что пропадает любое желание играть в нее. Даже модеры бы сделали его куда интереснее, чем он есть в оригинале. Если в первом квейке уровни были четко поделены и ты мог понять, сколько ты мобов замочил, на какой локе ты сейчас находишься и тд, то здесь какая-то вечная еbatоpия. Вечно надо придти за каким-то пропуском, который находится хрен пойми где, потом с этим пропуском возвращаться обратно. Как вернуться в исходную точку - не понятно, потому что все уровни - это будто бы один сплошной лабиринт. И при этом этот лабиринт максимально непонятный и запутанный. И по итогу вместо того, чтобы помочить мобов, ты 10 минут ищешь, где найти тот или иной пропуск или как найти путь обратно с пропуском, который ты уже нашел, т.к левелдизайн оставляет желать лучшего, а никакой карты даже и нет. К тому же саундтрек тоже подкачал. Для меня лично квейк - это зайти и помочить мобов полчасика и с кайфом пойти делать свои дела. Тут это сделать проблематично из-за безумной затяннутости левелов и других вышеописанных факторов. По итогу ты не отдыхаешь, а только устаешь. Если была бы внутриигровая карта или более лучший левелдизайн, то игруха была бы на уровне первой кваки. А так, увы, разочарование

very fun and epic action game from '97. Throughout the 90's id software continued to set the ground for games that would be created for decades since. Quake II is no different than Quake in the fact that they both set up ICONIC and game changing franchises, without Quake we wouldn't have Half-Life, Team Fortress, COD, and the way we played games would be VERY different. i am having alot of fun with Quake II and if you are into Half-Life, Doom, Quake 1 or old FPS titles, you're likely to have alot of fun with this. Love it.

hhi long time writer inner, first time completing a game!! in 1999, beto let me borrow this game when i was living at the bass player, robs house.
we just got a computee, but didnt have internet because the phone bill wasnt paid...anyhooo, i pleyed this game with all my life because that kept me amused while living in a closet under the stairs. there is no complaint at all, i live this kind of life. what else or where else or even who else will take you in the same day you get kicked out by the "step" parent while the real one is hiding behind the fake one. thats a friend that knows what its like and since your in the same band or music sirkul also, i had just gotten kicked out of the navy because i did my last line exactly when i should have, but the govt bastards decided that instead of the 28th, they will just bump it up to the 23rd..thats messed up because they knew i partied, they even got me a drink from a head shop before going to MEPS to pass the govt drug test. i was screwed from the moment i left. i knew this trip would suck.anyways , i am not a gamer as a lifestyle choice, its to0 stop the boredom...i finished this game!!!!! first time ever doing so. when the last robot has shed its larger skin, you get a transport off that miserable rock of a planet. also, if you can manage to pee at the same time you play....youll see

I may be having a first-impression syndrome, but Quake II doesn't come as close as Quake I for me. It's a great shooter with best Quake elements still in place, but it's not the same. Stroggs are much duller than the amazing lovecraftian style of John Romero and Adrian Carmack from Quake I. At the same time, it's a great 2023 re-release with Vulkan working in 4K with all addons, new episode and Quake II 64, there's a separate menu for fans with development history, scanned magazine ads, concept arts and other stuff. It's a great thing for true fans because previously Steam version of Quake II was quite annoying to configure on modern Windows systems to play.

The Reckoning
This first addon to Quake II with great aggressive soundtrack, but the level design is too annoying, non-linear and confusing for a game such as Quake. It feels much worse than the main game, the difficulty is too high and overall it's pretty annoying to play.

An absolutely outstanding FPS that has stood the test of time and inspired many others to follow in its footsteps.

The original Quake was a ground-breaking game when it first released, it absolutely changed the face of FPS gaming forever, and was the final nail in the coffin for many 2.5D shooters as it signalled a new dawn for the FPS genre. As Duke Nukem famously once said in Duke Nukem 3D "I ain't afraid of no Quake!" well...that didn't age so well!

Quake II took what made the original spectacular and revamped everything, and this remastered Nightdive version of the game is SUPERB. Graphical upgrades look incredible, the support for modern hardware, and the easy online play plus added achievements are an absolute dream come true, not to mention the now improved enemy AI and QoL features such as the compass to help you navigate your way through the vast almost maze-like levels.

Also included are the levels from Quake 64, making this the ultimate Quake II package for older gamers wanting to revisit their childhood, or newcomers to the classic "boomer shooter" genre who want to see where it all started.

Quake II is a golden experience from start to finish!

This review is for the remaster rather than the game itself.

This might be Nightdive's best remaster so far, which I like to think was made with the attitude of "OH, YOU PEOPLE DON'T THINK QUAKE II WAS VERY GOOD, DO YOU? WELL TAKE THIS YOU MOTHERS."

It plays and feels GREAT. More like a 2023 game than a 1997 one now, and I mean that in a good way.

The new campaign is nifty and merges all the content from the base game, expansions and console ports together, something I wish Nightdive would've done for the Quake I remaster.

The slow weapon switching has been replaced with Quake III-esque weapon switching, making the game more fast-paced and solid in a way that may not necessarily be faithful to Quake II itself, but more to the Quake series as a whole, almost making Quake II fit between Quake I and Quake III Arena a lot easier now. I never had a problem with the weapon switching before but speeding it up was a good move I'd say.

Like with the Quake I remaster, deathmatch now has optional bot support for offline mode... And yes it's a blast. I do hope Nightdive keep adding bot support to their remasters in the future.

Whether this remaster completely obliterates vanilla Quake II on the Yamagi source port I can't really say since I still have a soft spot for vanilla Quake II. The Reckoning and Ground Zero expansions are easier/more balanced in this remaster which is something to keep in mind for those who are likely to get pissed off whilst playing them in their original forms.

I can take or leave the Berserker's new leap attack. You can avoid taking damage by jumping at the right time, but it's an attack that really takes you aback (hey that rhymed) if you've played vanilla Quake II as much as I have.

So yeah, while vanilla Quake II is still a fine way to play the game, this a wonderfully high-quality package that Nightdive should be very proud of.

Un Remaster digno para un clásico de los Shooters de antaño. Poder disfrutar acribillando Stroggs y sufrir por el mapeado confuso me trajo de vuelta a mi niñez cuando probaba mis primeros juegos en el computador de mi papá. Incorpora todas la expansiones, con un lavado de cara más que suficiente, con un mejor modelado, texturizado y por sobre todo iluminación dinámica, que es un deleite a la vista para aquellos que jugamos el Quake 2 del 97'. Se incorpora un sistema de acceso rápido a modo de rueda para armas y la posiblidad de usar en el momento que estimemos conveniente los distintos powerups que antes solian ser instantáneos. La joya de la corona se la lleva sin lugar a duda la nueva expansión Call of the Machine, en donde se exprime al máximo el maravilloso motor KEX ENGINE, con una variedad y detalle de escenarios nunca antes vista en ningún contenido derivado de esta obra. Y además el final de esta campaña nos dejará una INESPERADA E INCREIBLE SORPRESA para los fanáticos de la saga QUAKE y su universo.
Un remaster imprescindible para aquellos que quieren revivir la nostalgia de jugar Quake 2 y también para aquellos que nunca lo han probado y quieren vivir una experiencia lo más competente posible con los estándares técnicos actuales.

Quake 2 is an old school, very fun adrenaline pumping FPS with a unique aesthetic. I've been returning to it repeatedly since childhood and the developers have done a great job with the remaster which adds nice quality of life tweaks like the compass which can save you a lot of time running around levels.

Quake II was a radical departure from the first Quake, released a year after it, and gave Id Software their first game that wasn't about alternate dimensions or demons of some kind since Wolfenstein 3-D. This was a big deal to the guys at Id, who had wanted to break away from occult themes after releasing the genre-defining Doom and Doom II in 1993 and 1994 respectively. Quake was meant to be something other than a first person shooter under the original direction of John Romero, who wanted a first-person action RPG with elements of Lovecraftian horror woven in. After a protracted development cycle mostly due to John Carmack wrestling with making a viable fully-3D game engine, Quake still ended up being a shooter.

This, combined with the tacking on of Sci-fi ideas last minute made Romero and co-designer Sandy Peterson furious, and they left Id Software afterward. The rest of the team didn't really sit well with the amalgamated themes they'd created with Quake either, and handed expansions off to other developers while they worked on a new game about hostile alien cyborgs threatening Humanity, using the Quake engine. After trying to think of a name, they ended up just calling it Quake II, and thus here we are. Game mechanics are not all that different from the original Quake other than the fact you are not zooming around like you're on roller skates, and the action is a bit more deliberate with cover playing a part. The weapons are almost entirely different save for the shotgun and super shotgun, and are more numerous.

You play as the soldier simply called Bitterman, with Humanity taking the war to the homeworld of their alien cyborg nemesis, the Strogg. Your drop pod malfunctions, and the result is crash landing deep within unknown territory, spending the rest of the game infiltrating and finding a way to lower the planetary defenses so a larger-scale invasion can begin. Like Quake, you can save anywhere, but unlike Quake, Quake II ditches the hub-based episodic format in favor of linear map design with a bit of branching and backtracking within each area, which consists of three to five interconnected maps you must navigate and explore to finish primary and secondary objectives. Each of these interconnected maps contain secret areas and sometimes entire secret levels too.

Quake II's more-cohesive story told in-game rather than through end-of-episode exposition, novel semi-open level design, and gritty sci-fi theme proved resonant with players and future game developers alike, and the campaign for Quake II is thus considered more memorable. Gameplay balance is also much better, with far less cheap deaths at the hands of enemies with overpowered splash and hit-scan attacks requiring lightning-fast twitch reflexes to avoid and kill, as opposed to the first Quake. which was full of moments that required you to save scum encounters on even easier difficulties due to the instant-death nature of combat. Lest we forget, Quake II also has an extremely impressive musical soundtrack by Sonic Mayhem featuring real guitars, blending heavy metal and industrial beats.

Quake II has always gotten more love from publishers than the original, receiving more ports onto consoles than Quake, and more re-issues and official expansions. The first Quake will always be the darling of the modding and deathmatch community, so much so that even today people are making content for it ranging from levels and episodes to total conversions. Quake II receives nowhere near this kind of community love, except for the people who really want to expand upon the Strogg lore and make fan content that continues the fight against them. There isn't much more I can say, this game is an influential masterpiece of first person shooter design that has aged like fine wine, and remains extremely replayable, especially with modern controller support and Nightdive Studios remastering.

Quake II feels at least one and a half times better than its predecessor. It's still the same corridor-shooter maze, but now it finally has a proper story. Instead of dry text summaries at the end of episodes, the game tries to deliver full cutscenes and clear objective descriptions. The story is simple: you're a marine, cut off from your squad, taking on the Stroggs — the local cybernetic aliens — on your own. Switching from the demons of the original to high-tech and computers really benefits the series: the arsenal has grown two and a half times, and you actually have to use each weapon smartly now.

Of course, for today’s audience (well, I actually turned 20 this year), the gameplay might feel a bit repetitive. The basics haven’t changed: run around, kill monsters, hunt for secrets, and collect bonuses. But the challenges have become visually more interesting: sometimes you have to figure out how to unlock a tricky door, sometimes interact with elevators, sometimes blow something up to progress. The real highlight is the compass on the Q button — seriously, NO JOKE, it’s a genius idea for these kinds of mazes — you can hit it anytime to see the way, so you don’t end up running in circles and screaming at your screen because you got lost.

Graphically, the game feels like a throwback to the late nineties, but thanks to Bethesda and Nightdive Studios, it all looks super clean. They didn’t just re-release the game—they improved the effects and added support for all modern features. Especially nice is that all expansions, The Reckoning and Ground Zero, are included. This really sets Bethesda’s approach apart from Valve, who with Half-Life were always overcomplicating things, selling Opposing Force and Blue Shift separately or putting out sketchy “remasters” like Half-Life: Source. Here, it’s done for the players: you just download and play the full version, no paying multiple times for the same game with different packaging.

Quake II is really a well-balanced and fair shooter. Don’t expect any mind-blowing revelations or crazy emotions that will change your life. But it’s a solid, classic game that’s still fun to play today, maybe while listening to a YouTube video on the side. The developers did a great job, and the game still feels alive nearly 30 years later.

The only reason this gets a thumbs up is cause quake 2 64 is good and call of the machine is great. Worth to get the game for just these 2 campaigns. These 2 understand level design and good enemy placement at least.

A very good sequel to the first Quake. Quake II is tonally different while also keeping the spirit of the original, where the first felt closer to Doom, Quake II feels more like soldiers fighting cyborgs and robots. The game is thoroughly fun and enjoyable. The achievements are significantly easier to obtain compared to the first Quake on steam, though both require similar time commitments. The game runs very well on modern PCs, with you having the option to boot up a new updated version of Quake II with newer UI as well as graphics settings to make the game pretty or crunchy, or you have the option to boot the base game from steam as well. A fun game for anyone looking to enjoy another Quake game. Plus, Quake II runs on the same engine that the first Half-Life game was built off of.

Враги стали умнее: они могут пригибаться от выстрелов и продолжать атаку даже будучи тяжело раненными (особенно этим пользуются самые слабые пехотинцы, после падения они привстают на одной руке и начинают делать поседение выстрелы в спину - очень неприятно).
[b]Атмосфера:[/b] Индустриальные пейзажи, рыжее небо Строггоса и динамичный саундтрек в стиле индастриал-рок от Sonic Mayhem создают неповторимый драйв.
[b]Ремастер (2023)[/b] Современная версия от Nightdive Studios добавила поддержку 4K, улучшенные модели и освещение, а также весь вырезанный контент и совершенно новую кампанию «Call of the Machine». Так же были добавлены: компас - помогает ориентироваться куда идти (Очень этого не хватает такого в Duke Nekem 3D), так же по кнопке «Q» появление радиального меню с возможностью выбора Гаджета ( защитное поле, подводная маска и т.д.)

Игра отличная, особенно зайдёт тем кто играл в оригинал в далёком 1997. Для новичков, не думаю что зайдёт - графика угловата, геймплей устарел, сюжет номинальный (хотя этим все чаще стали страдать и игры вышедшие 2025 году). Данный проект больше подойдёт таким же как Я любителям олдовых игр - поиграть, по вспоминать дество/юношество

Переиздание Quake II 2023 года - это просто... в очередной раз, ремастер здорового человека!

[i]Боже, храни всех тех людей, что ответственны за появление на свет этих релизов. Да останутся помыслы их чисты и благородны. Да увидят остальные правообладатели как делать ремастеры нужно. Да поймут они наконец что очередной патч к старой игре не нужно продавать как отдельный тайтл по фулл прайсу. И что не нужно забирать у фанатов ванильную версию ради нового движка. Аминь![/i]

Ну что тут сказать - переиздание сделали по отработанной в прошлый раз схеме... и схема эта просто потрясающая!

Первыми нас встречают новые логотипы, заставки и меню с кучей новых опций. Далее, выбирая новую игру, радуемся что все ранее выпущенные компании, и даже новые, теперь доступны сразу и в одном месте.

По геймплею - играется отлично. Как и в случае с переизданием первой части, тут просто заходишь и офигиваешь от того что вот именно такую игру ты и запомнил. Хотя на деле она была далеко не такой, это просто твой мозг так воспоминания идеализировал со временем.

В общем да, переиздание Quake II - это снова та самая версия игры, которую улучшили до такого состояния, каким ты её помнишь.

Ребята бережно хранят своё наследие и наше детство, за что я очень им благодарен! Пожалуйста, продолжайте в том же духе!

Тем кто в детстве играл в Quake II - бегом рубиться в переиздание и кайфовать от ностальгии. Остальным - [strike]соболезную[/strike] бегом приобщаться к истории видеоигр.

Ну что я могу сказать, хоть игра и имеет культовый статус, неплохо проработана и вроде того, все равно она мне, как МАЛАДЕЖИ быстро наскучила. Квейк 1 к квейку 2 не имеет отношения вообще (кто не знал, это на этапе создания вообще другая франшиза должна была быть, но ящики строггов вроде и в первой были). Поначалу, ну да, весело, бегаешь, стреляешь... А потом сталкиваешься с однотипными уровнями и тебе надоедает. У меня было так. Могу ли я порекомендовать? В целом да, но будьте готовы к тому, что кампания надоест и можно будет пойти в мультиплеер, он тут кстати не слишком живой. Если вам нужен мп скачивайте лучше порты

Quake 2 overall is a fun time. While not necessarily a direct sequel to the absolutely fantastic earth-shaking Quake, the sci-fi body horror and vague cyber-WWII influences are still pretty cool. The remaster has a shockingly large amount of content if you're looking to play every episode. Like 40-50 hours of gameplay total.

Call of the Machine is definitely the best out of all of them. My god, is it awesome both aesthetically and gameplay-wise. Sometimes it plays like a miniature Doom slaughtermap because PCs can handle many more enemies than in 1997.

Quake 2 is a fun romp through sci-fi bases. I can't really say much about it because it is just that. A very fun time. Would recommend. Although I guess that's obvious because it's the main campaign most people play.

Quake 2 64 is also a fun take on the original Quake 2 campaign. It's much, much shorter than Quake 2, and probably gets skipped over due to its name (Quake 1 64 was just a straight port, after all. So that sets poor expectations) but Quake 2 64 is actually its own campaign. It's pretty good.

The Reckoning is... meh. It's meh. It's that slow dip into Ground Zeroes where it's just bad. It's uninspired, bland. More of the same tech bases Quake 2 offered, but with worse level design and higher difficulty (but in the cheap shot way)

Ground Zeroes is definitely the worst. It was the worst then, and its the worst now. It has all of The Reckoning's faults multiplied by two. The does remaster try to fix some of its faults like adding visibility lasers to the turrets they LOVE to spam above doorways and in obscure spots, and it does really make it a better time than it was in 1997, it is still not good. If there was an episode to skip, I would skip Ground Zeroes, no hesitation.

I still recommend, somehow, because it's Quake 2.

You can tell one of the devs is...one of those "people", though. Why is there a ♥♥♥ flag on the crashed marine capsule that you get out of at the very beginning of the new caampaign? Keep your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ out of my classic games.

Quake 2 - это классический шутер старой школы, который в своё время задал планку динамики и темпа для всего жанра. После мрачного фэнтези первого Quake игра сменила направление и ушла в научную фантастику - вместо демонов здесь киборги, индустриальные базы и война против расы Strogg.

Сюжет простой и прямолинейный - ты солдат, отправленный на планету Stroggos, чтобы уничтожить врага изнутри. Никаких катсцен на полчаса, никаких долгих диалогов - только задача и оружие в руках. Атмосфера при этом плотная: металлические коридоры, заводы, бункеры, постоянное ощущение враждебной территории.

Геймплей - это чистая скорость и агрессия. Бегаешь быстро, стреляешь много, думаешь на ходу. Оружие ощущается мощным и разным по характеру - дробовик, супердробовик, рейлган, ракетница. Особенно приятно использовать рейлган - каждый точный выстрел ощущается весомо и хлёстко.

Игра поощряет движение. Стоять на месте - значит умереть. Нужно постоянно менять позицию, уворачиваться, использовать укрытия, контролировать ресурсы. Боёвка простая по механикам, но требует реакции и понимания пространства.

Отдельно стоит отметить левел-дизайн. Уровни связаны между собой, иногда приходится возвращаться в уже знакомые зоны, активировать механизмы, искать ключи. Это создаёт ощущение целостной военной операции, а не просто набора арен.

Музыка и звук добавляют напряжения - индустриальные мотивы отлично сочетаются с общей атмосферой вторжения на чужую планету.

Сейчас Quake 2 ощущается как концентрат классического FPS без лишнего. Никакой прокачки, никакого лута, никакого гринда - только ты, оружие и враги. И в этом его сила.

Это игра про чистый геймплей, где решает реакция, меткость и темп. Даже спустя годы она играется бодро и честно, особенно если хочется вспомнить, каким был шутер до эпохи сервисов и боевых пропусков.

Nostalgia game. Shooters have come a long way but this does hold up. The remaster keeps it alive and well. Q2 may not delight every experienced FPS newcomer, but I love it. Also not having to reload is a breath of fresh air, I forgot that used to be allowed.

Taki stary dziad a nigdy w Q2 nie grałem... może dlatego, że kiedy dopadłem pierwszy komputer to wjeżdżał już Q3 - i wydawał mi się strzelanką perfekcyjną. Jakie było moje zdziwienie kiedy doświadczyłem, że Q2 jest jeszcze bardziej dynamiczną grą! Powinni dodać ostrzeżenie - zatrzymywanie się grozi śmiercią xD
Dzisiaj się już tak strzelanek nie robi. Nie pamiętam nawet nic co mógłbym porównać do Q2. Wszystko jest wolne, choć może wydawać się dynamiczne, to przy Q2 większość strzelanek jest jak w slow motion.
Mimo powtarzalnych zadań w fabule, fajnie się to przechodzi.
Jump scare lepsze niż w dzisiejszych horrorach xD
Generalnie bardzo ciężki surowy klimat, ale mega odbiór.
Każdy stary dziad powinien w Q2 zagrać :D

Отличное переиздание с ачивками, всеми DLC и дополнительными материалами. Нареканий никаких нет.
Квака все также бодро проходится, появился удобный компас для антизатупа. DLC дают неплохой опыт, хотя некоторые из них довольно душные.
