played quake several times but never finished far past halfway in the campaign. the tanky enemies, the boring environments, it just feels like such a slog. it was good for its time but i just feel like it really hasn't aged well.
the multiplayer is kinda dead now but it is really cool that it supports crossplay. it's especially such an improvement from the dated system of having to port forward and etc. the console versions even have splitscreen (idk abt pc tho, i never really tried it on here). i really appreciate the devs going that extra mile.
still, my interest is mainly in the campaign, and my opinion on the campaign is that it's not very good. so i can't personally recommend it

The campaign is just bad. It is all over the place and you can't play it like multiplayer.

It's a great working update of Quake to relive those glorious nostalgic memories. Needing to set up a bogus bethesda account to just play the game in single player was the only stupid nonsense tacked in there.

Quake 1 is tense and creepy, truly a master at what it does. Gunplay feels great as well as movement. If you're into boomer shooters, this is a must play.

First time i played Quake i was only 9 years old and it captived me, enemies, the shapes of maps, weapons and more, i couldn't get enough, now i'm 18 years old and now i'm wasting my hours on 100% completing the game.

Самый главный шутер моей жизни. Я думаю, что если в моем детстве не было Квейка, то все было бы по-другому. Здесь идеально все - геймплей, дизайн, саундтрек, стиль id Software. Благодаря этой игре я обожаю эту студию. Жаль, что все "отцы" оттуда уже ушли. Есть два дополнения - Scourge of Armagon и Dissolution of Eternity, они тоже хороши, по мелочи добавлены всякие плюшки. Существует также много разных фанатских дополнений, в свое время в России определенной популярностью пользовались консольные хоумбрю-паки фанатских карт Quake Gold и Quake Platinum, в них многие уровни сделаны прикольно, но зачастую левел дизайн хромает, либо уровни просто адски запутанные, да и просто сами по себе зубодробительно сложные даже на Easy, хотя сам сингл Квейка — далеко не самая сложная игра.

I would like to give thanks to the developers of the gaming industry that lived and made it a reality in the 90's-2000's with Half life, Hexen/heretic, Duke Nukem, and so on with the Doom clones that made it into Boomer shooters for its type of gameplay...This is why i play games because of Id software if it wasn't for them...Along with Valve...Thanks friends.

//地图锁钥和联通设计稳健到连我都没迷路几次。本作除了老学校必吃的钥匙外，还痴迷于按钮，有些地方明明可以直接开门但还是得放个。
//土黄的风格还是挺喜欢的，如果能更庞大更粗野主义就好了。但当我穿过第n个长又空的走廊以及大空地的时候，还是感觉到了场景细节和特色的重要性。屎黄色也跟许多年后业界的屎黄色风格呼应了。

A certified classic. If you're a fan of FPS games, you should at the very least give Quake a try. Historical games such as this should be a must play to see (at the very least) how games have evolved.
id Software has also added some free expansions to the game, bringing some "modern" level design to the game.

Quake is an outstanding FPS, it has been cloned, copied, mimicked, parodied and modded countless times, its excellent game engine even being used as a tool to make other fantastic FPS games such as Half-Life. Quake absolutely revolutionised the FPS genre and helped pioneer 3D graphics when it was first released, it seemed like anything Quake touched, turned to GOLD!
Quake is a magical game in so many aspects it has a creepy atmosphere with a riveting soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails, the levels are dripping with creepy supernatural gothic atmosphere, the enemy designs are gritty and brutal and the explosions and guns and sounds effects are HEAVEN to my ears every time I hear a shotgun blast or "ting ting ting tingting!!" of a grenade bouncing on the floor towards me it fills me with a special kind of joy that no other game seems to match! it's not just any FPS folks, its QUAKE! <3
This remaster by Nightdive is outstanding, and I say that for one reason, it is optional! if you want to play with the modern engine and nice smooth modern hardware features, with the original graphics? you can! it's not forced upon you in any way! plus if you want to play the classic version and use your own sourceport, you also can!
Multiplayer is now easier than even also, simply enter that 4 digit code and BOOM! you're in! no more faffing around! and of course my favourite addition? ACHIEVEMENTS! giving all the more reason to hunt out all of those secrets and try the harder difficulties.
Quake is an experience like no other, it is stellar from start to finish, and I highly recommend you try it! but I warn you, once you get hooked! Quake is ALL you'll think about...and I'm fine with that!
At the time of writing this review, only 9.5% of people have completed the basic part of the game, not to mention the episodes. What a shame, guys...

This game has got the sauce. Unfortunately, everything besides the raw gunplay is kinda bland. It suffers from the same issues as Doom 64. Things don't die quickly, the monocolor environments get old, and lacks a solid soundtrack to carry you through. If you don't mind all that, then this is pretty solid, all things considered.

The remaster's exactly what you would hope for and expect. Multiplayer surprisingly has crossplay, split-screen and bot support too. You can even play the campaigns in co-op.
Quake is still a good game, I just don't understand why the campaign's been hyped up like it's some sort of eldritch nightmare mind ♥♥♥♥ masterpiece when in reality it's just Doom again but in a proper 3D engine. And with one of the worst final bosses I've ever seen. Quake's atmosphere is much creepier than Doom, if anything. I was missing actual music (Quake uses soundscapes for its soundtrack) by the time I got to the end of the game too though.
The seemingly overlooked Scourge and Eternity campaigns are a bit more honest about this, since they just replace the soundtrack with something that suits Doom. They also add a (very) small number of unique features, so they're worth playing through if you didn't have your fill of Quake by the time you're done with the main campaign.
Quake aged very well all things considered. It's good old fast paced shooting action. The guns are all satisfying, rocket jumping is super fun, and the enhancements are actually very nice. Amazing shooter.
Not sure what else can be said about this game that hasn't already. One of the most genre defining games ever created that's still a trendsetter, especially in today's retro/boomer shooter wave from the indie scene. This marks my 2nd time playing the game fully, first time playing the expansions. While not nearly as iconic as the main game (different devs bare in mind), it's still fun to play if you like the game enough. Also amazing work from Nightdive on the remaster, as expected.

Played through most of the content on my Steamdeck. Ashamed to say I never played a Quake game till 2025, but grateful I got to experience it. Awesome franchise and awesome game.

I play this game when I'm stressed about something and need to do something mindless, the physics make the gunplay punchy and it's just so fast paced and fun.
this game sucks it reminds me on my poop train when i was sick last year
only played an hour on my laptop at the moment but i used to play this lots with my cousin on his game a while ago. i’ve missed it ever since and finally got back into playing it!! i’m not sure if i’ll be on it very often nowadays but its a good game to have. quake is easy to get the hang of and resembles the core of a lot of fps horror-esque games in my opinion!! especially the earlier ones. you just get in there and start shootin monsters. its classic in everything from the gross looking creatures you fight and the weird noises they make when they die to rhe gritty music to the big hefty guns and last but not least the boss fights. i like a lot of the new accessibility settings like talking and translating it into text (theres also regular mics) and im very happy that while the default is an easy-to-read font, the original and more crude font is there to use. it helps immerse in the vibe. a bit harder to read but it looks so cool. easy to get a game going with your friends. i dont think quake is a worldchanging experience thats gonna constantly blow you away with how thrilling it is (but it has had its moments), but thats not a bad thing here. theres a reason i remembered it by name after all this time and sought it out again and bought it (not only for me but for a friend too) and came BACK to leave a review recommending it for anyone who likes rough fps games. its straightforward, fast-paced, full of lots of combat and rewarding enough for it.
side note, but heres a fun fact: my favorite band of all time actually did the soundtrack for this game! nine inch nails. i noticed while replaying that the ammo boxes in game actually has their logo!! the nailgun weapons in game were probably a reference too. i swear this isnt biased just for the soundtrack because i wasn’t a fan of the band when i first started playing all that time ago xx
I convinced my mother to get a second phone line so I could play Quake online into the wee hours of the morning.
I am happy to see people are still enjoying this. I do like the modernization features Bethesda has added. It's an absolute classic that everyone should try.

The game itself has arguably aged quite a bit... but the mods and free addons??? Worth it for that alone.
Not worth your time. This game hasn't aged well. In Europe there's an active multiplayer scene (QuakeWorld) where people play at an extremely high level using a modern client, but this Steam release isn't needed for that. If you're looking for nostalgia and want to see what Quake 1 actually looked like back in the day, you can grab "Chocolate Quake" from GitHub. This release here neither captures the feel of the original Quake nor is modern enough to satisfy an average player. Really, the only reason to buy it is to have Quake 1 in your game collection, and that's about it.

Pasé mucho tiempo viendo fotos del juego en revistas, babeando con esos gráficos tan revolucionarios y que parecían realistas, jajaja. Ya después de mucho tiempo pude jugarlo y fue alucinante. Hoy sigo disfrutando mucho de este juego, tal vez sea sólo por la nostalgia de cuando era adolescente, o porque de verdad es un muy buen juego.

El horror cósmico de los 90's no cambio ni se dejo atrás, eso si, si deseas hacer este juego aun más terrorífico, DESACTIVA LA MUSICA, y veras que vas a CA***** en los pantalones porque se convierte en un survival horror solo por los sonidos ambientales y de los monstruos en el lugar.

Enemies are way too tanky, all weapons feel like you're shooting NERF guns, all campaign maps looks almost the same.
MODs are absolutely fire tho, and that's why i'm recommending it, go play Arcane Dimensions, Brutalist Jam 3, Alkaline and Underdark Overbright!
Also ♥♥♥♥ bethesda accounts, go download ironwail, put it on the game folder, rename the ironwail exe to glquake, choose to play the original game instead of the Beth ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and have fun with a way better sourceport!

É até difícil colocar em palavras o quanto eu amo esse jogo. Impressionante como um simples fps single player feito há 30 anos atrás ainda consegue ser absurdamente viciante e impossível de parar de jogar.
Todas as mecânicas que você vê em jogos modernos começaram aqui. Seja o bunny hop, coletar items pelo mapa, o que for, Quake tem seu toque. Você zera os 4 episódios principais num pulo e fica com gosto de quero mais... Graças a deus a comunidade é ótima e capricha muito nas expansões também. Resumindo, não há um único defeito aqui, apenas joguem
