Plenty of unpolished aspects. Some examples:

Clunky and unintuitive interface system.

Insufficiently clear play-maps (where can the player and creatures move?). They can't move even into small buildings, such as fuel stations which are on many of the maps. This imparts a development incompleteness feel.

Inventory storage capacity too unrealistic.

Пройти игру стоит даже тем, кому жанр тактических головоломок не заходит от слова «совсем» – настолько стильным и атмосферным получилось это постапокалиптическое роуд-муви. Конец света здесь начинается с падения метеорита на западном побережье США – с ним на Землю попадают семена некоей новой жизни, которая медленно и неотвратимо поглощает привычный мир. Шансов спасти его нет – остается лишь любоваться закатом человечества. Герои игры отправляются в путешествие через всю Америку, с Востока на Запад, чтобы узнать, какой будет Земля после них… Дорога лежит через 7 условных биомов – по мере движения пейзаж за окном авто становится все более инопланетным. Визуал и звук создают меланхоличную и мечтательную атмосферу – просто 12 из 10. На погружение работают даже мелкие детали: игра сообщает, чем каждый «человечек» занимался до апокалипсиса и о чем больше всего скучает – начинаешь представлять, про что герои говорят в дороге и т.д. Еще одна нарративная деталь: если найти карту биома или встретить персонажа с чертой «автостопщик», можно попасть в секретные локации, раскрывающие предысторию мира – выглядят они очень атмосферно. Жаль только, что нельзя увидеть их все за одну поездку.

Теперь пару слов про геймплей. Игра делится на 2 фазы: планирование маршрута на карте биома и тактические сражения на локациях. Главный ресурс, за который идут бои в «Overland» – бензин, добывать который по мере движения становится все сложнее. Постоянно стоит вопрос, как тратить топливо – свернуть с дороги ради каких-то бонусов или же напролом двигаться к цели. Бои сделаны так, что победить в них нельзя в принципе: чем дольше герои остаются на локации, тем больше приходит врагов – нужно забрать как можно больше лута и сбежать, пока это еще возможно. То есть, сражаться приходится, в первую очередь, с собственной жадностью – и это очень азартное занятие! Локации камерные, 9*9 клеток; очков действий мало – максимум 3 на персонажа; врагов много, но их действия можно точно предсказывать – всё это роднит игру с легендарной «Into the Breach». Главное отличие – в генераторе карт: рандом в «Overland» периодически создает совершенно непроходимые локации, на которых еще до первого хода становится ясно – это конец, не получится даже сбежать. Бесит изрядно, но случается не так часто, чтобы дропнуть игру. Прошел ее на одном дыхании и даже выбил платину – на это ушло примерно 65 часов (надоедать стало буквально на пару часов раньше). Что в итоге? Крайне рекомендую к ознакомлению! Момент, когда я впервые добрался до конца этого завораживающего путешествия, забудется еще не скоро.

Not a bad game yet not close enough to being good o easy to recommend, at least not at full price.

For the difficulty it presents, actions are limited but don't feel substantial either. The RNG on items found is what makes it so that you might enjoy a run or not. Let alone fuel as a limiting resource which, most of the time, is just stressing and not fun. There's some learning abouit creature behaviour and hidden abilities or synergies between characters, items and the world that can make you overpowered but then the game doesn't explain any of it. While that is true to most rogue-likes, Overland is just to simple and shortsighted to take advantage from this sort of mechanics.

Don't get me wrong, there are enjoyable moments to it and some replayability. Still, after my first successfull run I'm not finding much else to do since the ending is just not worth the hassle. Literally, the ending, without spoiling much, is just... isn't an ending?

Wonderful, quirky little zombie survival game. (No, there are no actual zombies, just aliens, but they're slow, lumbering brutes, who you can bash over the head with improvised melee weapons if you like, but it's rarely worth it because the sound will draw a swarm -- that makes it a zombie game to me). Anyway, let's start with the art style: I absolutely adore it! And the vibe is a bit Stephen King-esque, which I also enjoy. If you don't enjoy those things, you may be less forgiving of this game's other flaws.

And it is a flawed game, the kind of beautifully flawed one that makes you wish the dev had just... done more with it. All the gameplay details are so well done - I particularly like the attention paid to fire as an environmental effect - and the tactical pacing is superb, where perfect play will basically always get you through unscathed, but even the slightest mistakes can snowball into disaster. On the other hand, tho, there's just not enough. There's not enough variety in the maps, there's not enough variety in the scenario goals, and most importantly to me, there aren't enough viable gameplay strategies. There is IMO one strategy that is so superior that there's no motivation to experiment, and the game never throws any real curveballs to shake you out of it. You have to force yourself to play badly if you want to experience the variety available, and that's just not great game design.

Fun game, I adore the art style but I fail to see the repeat ability.
The story, or lack there of, was nothing short of "Why is the player going coast to coast? idk"
The game is a good concept but It wasn't made to what it could be.
each area/biome in the start of the game was fun and intriguing, but near the latter half of the game it got a bit lack luster by only really changing the scenery, adding teleporting spots.

Don't get me wrong, its not a bad game. it just lacks some features and ideas that would elevate the game to be much better.

I think the thing that makes Overland great for me is how evocative it is. There's such an implication of wider, coherent world, and achieved with so relatively few elements. Sparce in its parts but rich in its implication. If you like the vibes you'll be in for a great time.

It's not a bad game, it's just that there's not much to it, not a lot of variety, and the ending fell super flat for me personally.

I got 6 hours out of it. I think that was two unsuccessful runs, and one successful run, and after that I had zero motivation to play it again.

I think the art is great, and there's enough variety to justify playing through once, but if you're like me and you want variety out of your playthroughs, you may find that it's best to buy the game at a price point where you'll be happy to only get a few hours of entertainment out of it.

It's currently priced at just under 20 USD when I'm writing this, so my thumbs down is based on that price. For under 10 USD I think it makes a lot more sense as a little bite-sized adventure/story.

For fans of games like X-COM, Keep Driving, and other procedural-type games, this is a wonderful success with a blend of thoughtful gameplay, character writing, and design. The art direction is a quaint style, and I very much enjoy the choice-driven adventures. It was a big challenge in the beginning, but once I got the hang of it, I really got into it. I look forward to many adventures in this game because you can have all sorts of companions (including dogs that you CAN pet!). 5/5 Highly recommended to all.

Edit(s): Trigger warning: Do not play this if you cannot handle pretty regular dog death/killing. I feel that I must also say I got this on sale for 6.99 and that for that price point it is very worth it. I understand and respect the people who did not recommend this game at $20 for the lack of "upgrades" in late-game, even though I felt pretty damn strong towards then. Anyway, really solid. No bugs that I encountered.

whlie i generally agree that the game's replayability suffers once you see the game through to the end, and that rng can sometimes screw you over, i nevertheless thought this was a brilliant little game, very nifty little combination of tactical gameplay with a narrative, combined with a simplistic low poly style that nonetheless works quite well thanks to its art direction

if a spiritual successor or such would come out, i would buy it in a heartbeat, i really hope the devs don't abandon this formula because despite its issues, this game is very interesting mechanically in a way that genuinely sucks you in, earlier today i spent my whole evening waiting to hurry home so i can play more overland

A mix of Xcom and Oregon Trail, this little indie game is still one of my favorites of all time.

I first got this game as part of a Humble Indie Bundle years ago, decided to re-purchase it for the updates and I gotta say this is still one of my most replayed games of all time. The mechanics are simple and straightforward, but still fun after dozens of playthroughs. Whenever I am wanting to play something that isn't going to take all my time time, just a short jaunt of sorts, this is my go-to.

The graphics do their job without being too much and the character/monster design is really charming for murderous extradimensional alien thingies. Would love to see a sequel to this game with maybe alternate routes/biomes you can travel through, but overall completely worth the pricetag.

This is one of my all-time favorite games, and the more I played it, the more I found to love!

[b]Puzzles/Strategy Gameplay:[/b]

This is a post-apocalyptic turn-based strategy/puzzle/survival game. For each “level," you move around a small grid collecting supplies, rescuing people, clearing the road, repairing/filling/equipping your car, etc., but you can only do so much or move so far in one turn, and then the creatures get their turn to try and kill you. And the further you get, the harder it gets.

There are no instructions, but the more you play, the more you start to understand, like how each creature moves, what items do, etc. Or you can find a guide. Though part of the fun was not knowing all the tricks and having it really be a struggle the first time I played.

Every level is the same type of challenge, but it’s a fun challenge! And the game manages to stay engaging and addictive. It’s a game that will never be exactly the same twice because the element of making decisions about supplies and passengers, the randomized maps, the many locations to choose from, the changing time of day, the randomized strengths of different characters, and the different ways to play creates variability. Achievements also provide great ideas for different challenges or things to try. There’s even a small bit of lore to uncover, and you won't find it all in one run. So there’s a lot of replay value.

Difficulty is very customizable. (It was only hard mode on release, but options were added later. I recommend hard to start if you do want some challenge. Like I said, the struggle was fun in my first run.) There's normal, hard, and expert mode, plus further options for each. Most allow you to restart levels if you mess up. There's also tourist mode, if you just want to see stuff stress-free without fighting creatures. You can also make your own adjustments. If it’s too easy, try playing with a smaller group, or go for some achievements that make the game harder, like completing the game without killing anything, or playing in a timed mode. If it’s too hard, check out some guides and tips.

The game auto saves, which means you can’t save, try out a location, then go back and try out a different location. If you make a bad map choice, you’re out of luck. If you just want to see other locations, you have to play again. Part of me finds that frustrating, but part of me appreciates it. It adds a lot of risk, gravity, and tension to the decisions you make about where to go. It makes the game feel more real and dangerous, which is fitting for the post-apoc theme.

[b]Characters & Story:[/b]

It does not have an actual story or characters, but every playthrough becomes a story, and it sort of has however much depth you give it. Sometimes you have to make hard decisions. Are you willing to steal to get what you need to survive? How about to murder? Are you willing to leave someone behind, or purposely sacrifice them, if it means getting the rest of your group out alive? What do you do if you come across multiple survivors who need rescuing, but you only have space for one in your car?

I also love reading the two-sentence mini bios for characters. (I call them characters, they’re just randomized people you move around the grid.) I can’t tell you how times I’ve started a new game, quit, new game, etc. just to see more bios. Sometimes they’re silly. Sometimes they’re poignant. That’s kind of how the whole game is. Silly yet poignant. It makes you laugh but also makes you think. Sometimes it makes you sad. I came across one character who was looking for her kid. One who had been living in his car. Some miss things from their old life. Some like the way things are now. There’s even diversity! None of it has any effect, but I still dig it. I’ve come across disabilities mentioned in bios (prosthetic leg, asthma, losing sight in one eye). Characters have mentioned partners of the same gender. There are POC and elderly characters (that last one is a bit of an assumption since I’m pretty much basing it on white hair). For a game that’s not character-based, the devs managed to make me care about these little people a heck of a lot.

The ending was fitting and very in-keeping with the silly yet poignant vibe. It made me feel things, and I wasn’t expecting it to. I loved that the developers gave players a quiet moment to reflect like that.

Also, there are dogs! And they have the cutest names! And you can pet them! And bring them with you! And they can wear backpacks and hats! (There's even an all dogs mode, and yes the dogs can drive.) In my first playthrough, I used one of mine to steal supplies from traders for me since he could move farther in one turn and I could keep the car running for our quick getaway, and it always gave me a good laugh to frantically shout-whisper, “Get in the car, Prinkles!” at my computer as though it were happening in real time and I were really there. It also cracks me up that when you “inspect” items as a dog, they’re described from the dog’s POV. It’s useless when you actually want to know what an item does, but funny enough that I wasn’t even mad. And I love it when they carry knives around in their mouths. Warning, dogs can get killed, but just keep them safe and you’re good!

There's also a bit of lore and interesting weirdness to uncover if you hit up the landmarks and scenic overlooks, which you need in-game maps (found on the ground, already equipped, or at trading posts) to get to.

[b]Everything Else:[/b]

The graphics are interesting and beautiful, both the gameplay grids and the little cut scenes. I also appreciate the attention to detail, like how the characters wrap their arms around their bodies and shiver when standing around in the cold settings. How the time of day shifts with each stop. How there’s weather, like snow and rain.

The music is great, sometimes tense, sometimes eerie, and really adds to the mood of the game. The radio plays music too, and especially when you use it at a rest stop, it is such a vibe.

I don’t know how long my first run took me because I didn’t get this on a platform that keeps track, but it had to be at least ten hours. And I’ve played for many more since then. I initially got it in a bundle but have now paid $6.99 on sale on Steam. (It deserves full price, but I have limited money.)

There is just so much interesting stuff in this game, with the opportunity to choose how you want to play and what kind of people you want your team to be. This is going down as one of my favorite games, and I absolutely recommend it!

Overland is a minimalist turn-based survival roguelike where every decision feels weighty. The aesthetics are quiet and moody—with a rewarding simplicity that belies a deep strategic loop.

Pros
✔️ Gameplay & resource management are razor-sharp – Every fuel drop, ammo cache, and choice to help a stranger feels meaningful. It rewards careful planning without overcomplicating things.
✔️ Van full of dogs = joy – Yep, you can rescue and carry an entire furry crew in your vehicle. It suddenly becomes less about survival and more about your little doggy party.
✔️ Pace and difficulty ramp perfectly – The game escalates at just the right rate, teaching you through story and mechanics without ever overwhelming.

Cons
❌ THE DOGS CAN DIE >:( – One wrong move, and your cuddly squad could be gone—emotionally brutal for dog lovers like me.
❌ Convoy mode wish – I’d kill to roam with two vans or more. One car is tight; a small convoy would feel epic.
❌ Twitch integration is flakey – It promises interactive map votes, chat commands, and character swaps… but it often doesn’t fire up properly or doesn’t guide you on how to use it.

Conclusion
This game sucked me in harder than I expected. It started as we will give it a quick try and ended with me emotionally invested in every rescued stray and clinging to every last can of gas. It's visceral in its simplicity: quiet roads, tense escapes, and heartbreak if you mess up. I laughed, I cried a little, and yes—dogs died. But I also felt smarter and more compassionate. There's nothing flashy, but there's something deeply human about it.

disclaimer: i had this game on itch.io and had a looot more hours there. despite what achievements may imply, i didn't get a perfect run on my first ever run LOL

this used to be one of my favorite games when i was 14 or so, and i would say it still is a fav. jocelyn reyes' music is super cool and atmospheric and perfectly sets the tone (i actually specifically came back to this game after listening to the ost on bandcamp recently). the game also looks amazing. all the bugs look just creepy enough without venturing into horror game territory. the environments also look really pretty, and the diorama style of the levels is a really sick and unique touch

the gameplay is also phenomenal and scratches all the right itches for me. the ticking clock of bugs closing in and each one you kill causing more to emerge makes for some great tension as levels turn into races to get to supplies before the bugs get to you. occasionally you'll perfectly execute some crazy strategy or flawlessly deal with some awful situation and it just leaves you feeling like a genius, it's awesome

i'd recommend playing it on hard or expert though (you can switch difficulty by starting a new game from the menu during the intro, it doesn't let u choose initially). the default "normal" mode is actually an easy mode added a year post-launch, with one of its defining features being giving you 3 action points for all characters instead of 2, which completely breaks the challenge of the game imo

but overall yeah, hard recommend. this game is a bit overshadowed by some of finji's other hits, but it's satisfied me in a way i haven't really seen many other games pull off. definitely an underrated gem

TLDR: Enjoyed the first two hours. Ended up smashing uninstall after my second run.

Overland is an puzzle/'tactics' game that is unfortunately quite shallow. Heavy reliance on RNG to cover up lack of customization is bad game design. Inability to customize your characters (or at least starting character) screws with immersion/engagement. Another annoyance are RNG/procedural hijinks, for example spawning resources/people/dogs in areas you can't reach.

Loads of nitpicks. Why can't I form a convoy of multiple vehicles? *Why* can't the truck tow a trailer - heck, you find campers *very* early on. Why did all the guns (save for flare launcher) vanish? This is *America*, a land with more guns than humans... These simplifying design decisions are further aggravated by the lack of moddability.

Perhaps I'm biased against casual/semi-casual games, but Overland's attempt at mystery and atmosphere failed to compensate for flaws.

It would not be a bad little diversion for an extremely discounted price, but having completed the game twice I'm not feeling the replayability very much. The first run was a bit of a learning curve and lost a few folks (and a dog! Shame Shame Shame) on the way to the coast, but lots of hard lessons learned. On the second play-through it was much easier because I knew what to keep, what to throw away and how to deal with the bugs. Not bugs in the program...it seems pretty flawless. Bugs that are trying to eat you in the game.

After the second go-round (and the piddling frustration of having to pass through umpteen "scenes" where nothing happens except to move from point A to point B), I realized I didn't have any interest in going on the cross country adventure again.

I had my eye on that game for a long time and waited until it was on winter sale.

I can highly recommend it. It's exciting and atmospheric. You feel the road trip to the west coast through alien occupied land. The monsters get stronger, the people more hostile and the landscape more surreal.

In my playthrough I had a mate and a clever dog in my party. The dog could bark and intimidate the aliens. They were frozen and I could collect the petrol.
So the "fights" were more like a gas looting simulater with a lot sneaking around.
The dog felt a bit op and the most encounters to easy.
But on the other hand: without the dog, the fights would have been extremely difficult.
You hardly have any weapons (mostly sticks, stones, bottles) and I didn't know what to do with some of the items.
Unfortunately, there is no character development.
The ending is a bit sad.
I like the graphic design.
So all in all, it was a good gaming experience.

Worth playing, but only on sale. It's about 6 hours of gameplay and doesn't have a lot of replay value unless you want to challenge yourself. It's primarily a puzzle game; figure out the sequence of moves for your character (and their extremely limited action points and inventory) and restart the level if you mess up. The overland journey is atmospheric but has no real story to speak of.

Una mezcla "5 para el peso" de varios modos de juegos, pero que no termina de cubrir ninguno:

-Intento de juego de supervivencia donde NO EXISTE LA COMIDA; siendo basico en todos los juegos de supervivencia habidos por haber, tener que lootear comida y siendo que esta presente la oportunidad (pues el juego se basa que cada locacion es medio dia (dia/tarde/noche) podrian haber cerrado en que necesitaban comida, pero no, eso no existe.

-Roguelike, donde todos tus personajes son IGUALES, no hay personalizacion de nombres, skills, profesiones, ni simpatizacion por los personajes, son solo NPCS de nombre random altamente confundibles

-Mapas mediocres, no podes entrar a edificios, el juego transcurre en pocas casillas en la calle

-No hay armaduras, ni crafteo, solo gorros "visualmente" bonitos, asi dice el juego, podrian haber puesto botas, armadura, cascos, pero no, muy simple

-Y en mi opinion, el juego no me gusta, me parece mala la idea general de que si le pegas a un bicho "atraes" a otros, los enemigos me parecen ademas de antipaticos (bichos super random) malos, mal ataque, no se entiende que hacen

-Las teclas de acceso rapido son incomodas y no son personalizables; por ejemplo, para intercambiar NPCS tenes que tocar 1, 2. 3; para mover a un NPC tenes que tocar clik y para pasar de turno tenes que tocar... ENTER, seria mas comodo barra espaciadora xq podes manejar todo con la mano izquierda y clikear con la derecha, pero tener que pasar el turno con ENTER te obliga a tener que mover la mano derecha del clik o clikear el pasar turno, lo que lo hace incomodo (si re gordo, pero el juego es MUY LENTO ademas, movimientos minimos, el perro se mueve de a 1 cuadrado)

Ahora ademas, personalmente los juegos posapocalipticos de "fantasia" a mi no me gustan; esto con zombies hubiese sido distinto, pero asi, con bichos que no se entiende, es medio pedorro, ademas, la idea de que hayan "perros" desvirtua el "realismo" de "supervivencia"

y para colmo los personajes son burdos, infantiles y superfluos, la descripcion de uno era "violinista, le gusta el helado"

Espere este juego mucho, me defraudo UN MONTON

This and Rebel Cops were released around the same time and have the same map style. If you like that game, you'll probably like this. I love the way the map works for both of them, but this game has some replayability. Genuinely love this game. Its a fun lil puzzle game that makes you think and do your best to get from one side of the map to the other, multiple times. Whether you're with humans, dogs, all dogs, or whatever else, your goal remains the same. To get to the other side of the states.

I do wish I found this game when it was in its prime, to enjoy it with a community more or something. I'd also love DLC but understand its probably unlikely. The games with this map style really interest me, so it sucks that there aren't that many with it, but this is a nice one to sit down and burn some time.

Dün fiyatından dolayı korsan indirmiştim, bi' 5-6 saat kadar oradan oynadım, bugün yaz indirimlerinde görünce hemen aldım ve az önce de bitirdim.

Garip bir şeyler olmuş ve dünyayı farklı yaratıklar sarmış, biz de bu dünyada hayatta kalmaya çalışıyoruz. Oyunun sonunda bile neyin neden olduğu, ne zaman başlığı vs. açıklığa kavuşmuyor. Bu açıdan ilk başta tatmin olmasam da sonradan çok gerçekçi geldi. Elektrik belli başlı yerlerde var, radyolardan cızırtıdan başka bir şey duyulmuyor. Böyle bir durumda bilgiye nasıl ulaşacaksın ki ?

Ölüp tekrar başlamalarımda denk geldiğim karakterlerin hepsi birbirinden farklıydı. İki satırlık kısa bir özgeçmişleri oluyor, "Bitkilerle uğraşmayı seviyor, kız kardeşini kaybetmiş." gibi. Ya da "Ekibi tarafından geride bırakılmış, uzaylılar tarafından kaçırıldığını iddia ediyor" gibi. Özel yeteneği olan karakterler de var, bunlar yolculuk boyunca bize avantaj sağlıyor. Hemşire, elektrikçi, nişancı vs. Oyunda bolca köpek de var, onların da türleri ve karakterleri birbirinden farklı, gürültücü, iyi gören, agresif vs.

Bilemiyorum ya, normalde bu kadar uzun yorum yazmam ama gerçekten çok güzel bir oyundu. Çok hayatın içinden gibiydi. Hala bittiği için kötü hissediyorum. Bi iki gün ara verip tekrar başlayacağım muhtemelen. Kesinlikle almanızı tavsiye ediyorum. "10 dolar böyle bir oyuna çok ya.." deyip korsan indirmiştim, yok hocam. Çok değil. İndirimlerde alırsanız ne ala ama kaçırırsanız da kesinlikle fiyatını hak eden bir oyun.

The game is quite good. However I would like to say no to Overland for now, because the UI should be much more readable and accessible. It's painful to learn how and in what situation people are left behind. What are the meaning function of certain items. Are they junk? This helmet block attacks? Hey I got two cars, let's go team, buckle up! Oh, half of the the team left behind, no two cars option. Anyway, I hope the devs will do the necessary quality of life changes, because it would be a shame for a game this good.

Слишком смешанные чувства и эмоции я испытал от прохождения этой игры, но я сойдусь на том мнении, что эта игра мне не понравилась, а все из-за БЕСКОНЕЧНОГО СПАВНА МОБОВ! И ЭТО НА ОБЫЧНОМ УРОВНЕ СЛОЖНОСТИ! Я не пойму сюжет вообще, мы просто группа выживших, которая двигается в сторону побережья, и все заканчивается тем, что просто сидим у костра и говорим корявыми диалогами.... Диалоги... это конечно да.. настолько корявых я еще не видел, локализация сильно хромает, и после прохождения каждой локации, начинается диалог, персонажи что-то обсуждают, но говорят настолько непонятные и не связанные вещи, что ты просто сидишь и умираешь от кринжа и бреда... Поиграв 8 часов, понял, что потратил деньги впустую... не советую, игра не стоит денег, понял бы если стоила рублей 50, но не 710, да даже со скидкой она не стоит того, сюжет не понятный, механика пошаговых сражений, это единственное, что вызвало хоть какой-то интерес и еще приятная графика, но остальные минусы затмили все плюсы...

A cautionary tale in over-simplification.

I love all of the DNA present in Overland, but it is a cautionary tale in over-simplification of core gameplay. A too-small play grid, a too-small action point pool. Too-small health pools and inventories. If the granularity of everything gets reduced to everything having a 33% of anything significance, it flattens out so many of the more interesting and expressive choices in the game.

And yes, I understand the Hitman Go, Into the Breach style design at play here, I am saying I do not favor turn-based-tactics-but-really-it's-a-puzzle design.

While the presentation is very polished, and nice looking low poly art is here to stay basically forever, I find the game as a whole strangely dated in its presentation and tone. Apparently the only people left are just-so quirksters of exactly the same kind, despite their randomized appearances. You can pet the heckin' doggo. You can have a whole band of them, in fact, which seems pretty shameless pandering.

I can't hang my hat on the mood/atmosphere, the gameplay has been simplified nearly out of existence, the characters are "unique" in exactly the same written voice, the enemies are nonthreateningly abstract.

Very nice to look at, and the twitch integration is clever, but with a few years on a lot of these features (twitch integration! Doggos!) feel very cynical. Watch some playthroughs on youtube to see if it strikes a spark, but there barely feels like a game worth spending the time on here, even if it has been expertly crafted.

Not Worth it at standar prize, game is finished but looks completely undeveloped. Gameplay is just a "Collect Gas Simulator", gets repetitive very fast.

What about the story? Nope, theres none aside from a few lore tidbits here and there. When you reach the ending you will end up asking yourself why did you even do all this traveling in the first place.

Kinda not what I was expecting, though only watched first trailer for the game quite a while ago ^^'. It feels a bit like Annihilation, but with world already being converted quite a bit and way less creepiness (unless you turn on "more creatures").

You start on east coast of US and move westward, with almost no signs, except for monsters, of anything alien at the start and almost full conversion to foreign biome at the end. Game is fairly short experience of turn based road trip through not safe environment. You scavenge for supplies and fuel to continue your travel, encountering other humans (surprisingly they are all friendly unless you attack), dogs and alien creatures (who are all your enemies except one in the end). Humans and dogs could be invited to go along with you, but party size depends on your car, at most you could fit 5 party members in the van, so if you got more members than you cold take along - you are forced to leave somebody.

Graphics here is very simplistic as apparent from screenshots and trailers, music on the other hand adds to the atmosphere, with some tracks once again reminding of Annihilation.

Ich war sehr überrascht von Overland. Ich wusste nicht ganz worauf ich mich da einlasse und am Anfang war es auch recht ungewöhnlich zu spielen, da man diese Art von Spielen nicht häufig sieht. Direkt am Anfang gesagt: Wer ein typisches Survival Game nur mit abgeänderten Gameplay erwartet ist hier falsch. Es ist sehr strategisch und was ich persönlich Schade finde ist, dass es nicht wirklich irgendwelche Upgrades gibt. Man kann sein Auto hier und da ein bisschen aufpeppen und die ein oder andere Waffe im Spiel finden, allerdings nichts was mein Herz höher Schlagen lässt. Wäre cool wenn man irgendwie eine neue Mechanik einbauen könnte, bei der man wirklich ein Gefühl der Weiterentwicklung merkt. Baupläne fürs Upgraden von Waffen? Stats die man hochlvln kann? Ausrüstung die dem jeweiligen Charakter Bonuswerte gibt? Irgendwie sowas. Aktuell ist es eher eine endlose Suche nach Benzin, hindurchmogeln durch ettliche Gegner in der Hoffnung nicht zu explodieren oder noch 10 andere Kreaturen anzulocken. Klingt negativer als es ist, das Spiel macht Spaß gar keine Frage und ich empfehle es auf jeden Fall weiter, eben auch weil es recht speziell ist und ich noch kein Spiel dieser Art vorher kannte. Ich hoffe jedoch die Entwickler hauen mal ein dickes Update mit mehr Content raus. Da habe ich allerdings nicht wirklich viel Hoffnung, wenn ich auf das Release Date schaue :(
Außerdem: Für den aktuellen wenigen Content finde ich den Preis echt nicht gerechtfertigt. Holt es euch im Sale für einen 10er dann macht ihr nichts falsch ;)

Jogo de sobrevivência em turnos. Numa promoção, para quem curte esse estilo de jogo, vale a pena. Basicamente é a tentativa de atravessar os EUA de uma ponta a outra. A busca é majoritariamente por combustível, mas medicamentos, armas improvisadas, ferramentas para consertar o carro são outros itens que aparecem ao decorrer do jogo.

É possível convidar pessoas e/ou cães para acompanharem na jornada (mais gente para te ajudar a procurar
itens nas fases). A história resume-se ao cenário em que se está inserido: monstros (alienígenas?) emergem da terra e te confrontam num mundo pós-apocalíptico.

Recomendado pela diversão de algumas horas. Não foi um jogo que me prendeu por mais de 15 horas. Mas ainda vale a pena numa promoção.

tl;dr fun for a while, not very challenging and not very replayable.

Some reviews say this game is too hard. That's not right, On "normal" t's probably the easiest resource management game I've ever played.

You have a grand total of two resources to manage (although it looks like there's more): one is time, measured in actions and the other is space, measured in item slots. Characters take actions and have items slots, so you want to maximise the number of characters in your group / party.

Characters are transported in vehicles and vehicles have limited seats for characters (plus extra item slots, the different kinds of vehicle trading off seats for slots) so the first thing to do is to find the vehicle with the most seats. That's the van, with five seats. Five seats means five characters, times 3 actions each (2 on hard) makes for 15 actions per turn. That's more than you'll need on most maps. Each character can carry up to two items plus one equipped item, so five characters is 10 items, and that's the most you can carry if you choose any other vehicle (which may have more item slots but also fewer seats for characters, and therefore, fewer item slots from characters- and fewer actions also). The van doesn't have any storage but you can attach a luggage rack to it that will give you 2 extra slots for 12 in total. At that point the difficulty is in deciding which items to drop to leave some empty item slots so your characters can carry fuel to fill up the vehicle, which they have to do often.

The other choices you make follow from all that. You need to keep your fuel tank topped up (if you can find a jerry can, that increases the amount you can carry) and make sure to stop at the icons that show a human where you can pick up more survivors. Characters have special skills but you don't see what they are (the game only gives vague descriptions) and they don't seem to make a huge difference anyway, so after you have filled in all five of your van seats you can ignore the locations with more characters and focus on those that give you fuel, equipment, trades, and meds.

One thing to keep in mind is that you don't earn any points for killing monsters. Monsters are attracted to noise and some ways to kill a monster make noise so it's better to work around them instead of through them. The game doesn't make that clear, but the monsters will not attack your vehicle and cannot attack your characters through it. You can turn on the vehicle and move around (in a limited area, where there is road, unless you have an offroad truck) so you can position it so as to screen your characters while they're searching bins and siphoning fuel from cars etc. You can also run over some monsters with a vehicle for free (others damage your vehicle and it may even explode).

... and that's it really. I just finished a game with five characters (including a dog, Carwash) without losing any characters and I only needed to revive one because I was, what the hell, let's see what happens (I just restarted the level to avoid the hassle of reaching the character to revive him). With five characters in a van I ended up leaving most of the team in the van most of the time because there was nothing for them to do. The game got so easy that I didn't realise that the dog could howl and stun at least some of the monsters for a turn.

Honestly, this is not Nethack and it's really not hard at all once you figure out the essentials.

On the other hand- the downside is the ending is underwhelming, to say the least, and the game gets so easy after a while that it doesn't have a lot of replayability despite the procedurally generated levels and characters. To be honest, I only got it on sale and I wouldn't have bought it at full price, but it was a fun few hours of play.

In this post-apocalyptic game you control a group of people (of solo traveller) trying to survive by collecting gasoline (it is basically a gasoline simulator game) items, new group members and car parts in tactical turn-based "combat"* in randomized levels. It has an interesting visual style, cool world building, light RPG elements.
The turn-based combat is not so much a combat as you often interact with objects to move them tactically on the grid, open, unlock, burn environment elements, or collect or upgrade your character or car with a new item.

The game is overall great fun but sometimes the UX is a bit mediocre. It works out fine most of the time but there is no setting for animation speed, you often can't skip slow screen transitions (or the credits) and worst of all, no one explains you that you can basically move items for free if you form a chain of characters (and cars) standing next to each other. Once you know this trick you can basically teleport items including gasoline forward and backward easily in a turn and you will breeze through most levels. So is it really balanced? No. But still it is fun as there are quite a few very different interaction options with the environment. It feels like an "Into the Breach" light, without enemy move prediction, but with a lot of ways to engage with our environment. I enjoyed this part the most, for example learning how fires work, what generators do etc. But also no one explains you how permanently-equipped (worn) items work. Again, the UX is super unclear and there are no tooltips either. It feels a bit unpolished in that regard but since the game has not that much depth, a skilled player will figure things out fairly quickly.

A downside to me is that the levels are really small, movement and actions are very limited, you always need to move forward fast and eventually the game got quite repetitive for me.

The world building is very interesting and reminds me of The Road, but with replacing the cannibals with a post-apocalyptic Bikini Bottom (Spongebob) and filling it with rock or sea-themed monsters of various behaviors and effects. The ending was quite lackluster though and I was hoping for a New Game+ that would go deeper but it is just more of the same each time you start fresh. Disappointing. After two playthroughs on Normal at arond 10h I felt like I had seen almost everything.

I would recommend to buy the game on sale, if you like turn-based puzzle-like combat games and post-apocalyptic themes.

I got this on sale, and thought the idea was intriguing. I thought it would be more of a turn based strategy, but it's more akin to a turn based puzzle game. I love the atmosphere, I love how it jumps in with no guidance or pushing me to chose one way or another and allows me to learn as I go.

I'm not trying to stress and calculate every move, so the relaxed play style allowing me to make mistakes I actually do appreciate. Give it a try.

面白いです。ぱっと見SLG風ですが、サバイバル要素がなく純パズルゲームです。
難しいというレビューが多いのですが、アップデートでバランス調整されたのか（？）
現在はかなり優しい難易度になっています。
攻略中のステージ内なら、わざと全滅すればやり直しができますからね。

わかりにくい部分TIPS
・装備できるアイテムは六角形アイコンで、装備するとインベントリを圧迫しない。能力付与のようなもの。
・武器は壊れるものとそうでないものがある。鉄パイプ、斧はおそらく壊れない。後半ほぼ必須アイテム。
・「遠吠え」持ちの犬はチートレベルに強い。
・アイテムの詳細は持っているキャラを選択した上で「調べる」ボタン。取引相手も同様。
・車は衝突アイコンが出るオブジェクトにぶつかると破損する。二回で全損/炎上するが消化器で火は消せる。
・車は1台しか所有できない。2台乗った状態で外に出ようとすると他のメンバーが残されるので注意。

ガソリン管理をしっかりすればノーマル難易度ではそこまでクリアは難しくないはず。
いかに敵を"相手にしないか"がキモのゲームですね。倒したり音を立てるたびに敵が増えていくので…
ただ、スルー前提のシステムのため後半の敵の特徴とかよくわからないままクリアできちゃったのが
ちょっともったいない気がしました。
あとこれも結構書かれていますが価格に反してボリュームが少なめです。

Es un juego super original, lo pase en 3 horas a modo NORMAL, me hubiese gustado que tenga muchas mas opciones de vehiculos, objetos y personajes. Pero muy valioso para jugar entre SABADO/DOMINGO.
Esta gente sabe lo que hace, seria ideal hacer una especie de mundo abierto con estas mecanicas de loot, son geniales.

I've been eyeing this game for a long time, so once it went on sale, I snatched it quickly. And I don't regret my purchase. For the full price it might be a little bit of a tougher sell, but hey, I only played through it once and haven't seen all the content yet.

The game is quite simple, but actually has more layers than on the first sight.
* You have different types of vehicles, which can change the playstyle quite a bit. A van with a lot of seats but no slots for items vs a truck with only two seats but bigger cargo bed can render rather different playthroughs.
* Some characters have special traits. I'm not sure how many there are, but I'm excited to explore more.
* Dogs! You can have a dog on your team, you can pet the dog, the dog can attack and carry items. Also seems like you can finish the whole game with only dog characters! Awesome stuff.

I assume the game has been updated quite a lot since the initial release, according to some older comments. But if you find the game a bit too challenging, just remember - you don't have to kill the enemies. Most of them have only 1 action point, so it's better to just distract and outrun them.
