Sehr cool aber die Character Portraits gehen so gut wie gar nicht klar. Braucht unbedingt Modsupport das dieses Problem behoben werden kann. Würde lieber Animegesichter sehen statt diese Teils woke designten Larven.

I was on the fence for that review, leaning towards an unconvinced thumbs up until the very last fight. It reminded me of all those ♥♥♥♥♥♥ monsters I faced along the way with massive resistances/blocks, drains and controls. It's not fun, I had no idea I was supposed to hit that central structure because the game said "hit the rings" so I thought I was supposed to hit the 2 portals I could not target. It's grindy, lacks a clear objective, doesn't even show if hitting that structure does anything.
Enemies casting controls on you all the time is a terrible game mechanic. Watching the initiative bar skipping your characters effectively prevents you from playing the game, the player becomes spectator.

The game does that a few times, also throwing hit sponges at you and making some characters useless so you have to respec or change group composition. I wouldn't mind on hard difficulties, but on the lowest it just makes the game artificially longer and frustrating.

It does not respect your time as a player.

It's not all bad: I loved the art, I enjoyed the banter, I love that old basic gameplay loop. It's just a disappointing execution.
The itemization is also very bland, with most equipment barely giving any stat upgrade at the very end compared to what you got at the very beginning.
The skills are OK but you never really unlock any powerful one, and the decent stuff you can barely use as you run out of energy fast being constantly drained.
At least the price is decent.

Fun blobber with an uniquely Slavic focus on characters and narrative. It's not doing anything groundbreaking in terms of gameplay but the combat and puzzles kept me engaged all the way through.

Only downside is that the game has some weird UE optimisation issues where the CPU gets flooded and sets my fans off randomly, but this doesn't happen often.

Oh, and Jóska is a king ♥♥♥♥ as well.

„Operencia: The Stolen Sun“ ist ein klassisches Dungeon-Crawler-RPG von Zen Studios und erschien 2019. Gespielt wird in Ego-Perspektive, rundenbasiert und stark inspiriert von Oldschool-Vertretern wie Legend of Grimrock. Gleichzeitig bringt das Spiel eine moderne Präsentation und eine ungewöhnliche, ungarisch geprägte Fantasy-Welt mit. Nostalgie trifft Komfort.

[h1]Handlung / Story[/h1]
Die Story basiert lose auf ungarischer Mythologie und hebt sich dadurch angenehm vom generischen Fantasy-Einheitsbrei ab. Ich begleite eine Gruppe Held*innen auf der Suche nach der gestohlenen Sonne, während nach und nach politische Intrigen, Göttermythen und persönliche Schicksale aufgedeckt werden. Die Geschichte wird überraschend umfangreich erzählt und bleibt bis zum Ende interessant. Besonders gefallen hat mir, dass Dialoge in englischer Sprache vertont sind und Charaktere eine echte Persönlichkeit haben.

[h1]Gameplay[/h1]
Gameplay-Kern sind Erkundung, Rätsel und rundenbasierte Kämpfe auf einem Kachel-Grid. Die Rätsel sind vielfältig und oft clever, manchmal aber auch etwas kryptisch. Im Kampf kommt es stark auf Gruppenzusammenstellung, Positionierung und Fähigkeiten-Synergien an. Ich mochte besonders, dass jede Klasse klar definiert ist und sich spürbar anders spielt.

[h1]Schwierigkeit[/h1]
Der Schwierigkeitsgrad ist insgesamt anspruchsvoll, aber fair. Kämpfe können schnell kippen, wenn man unvorbereitet ist oder falsche Entscheidungen trifft. An ein paar Stellen bin ich mehrfach gestorben, bis meine Taktik saß. Wer Dungeon-Crawler kennt, fühlt sich schnell zuhause, Neulinge brauchen etwas Geduld. Stellenweise habe ich für den ein oder anderen Boss z. B. den im Grab, echt mehrere Anläufe gebraucht. Da Gegner auch nicht respawnen, ist ein gezieltes Hochleveln auch nicht möglich.

[h1]Grafik[/h1]
Grafisch ist „Operencia: The Stolen Sun“ deutlich moderner als viele Genre-Kolleg*innen. Die Umgebungen sind farbenfroh, abwechslungsreich und oft richtig schön inszeniert. Besonders die Lichtstimmung und magischen Effekte haben bei mir Eindruck hinterlassen. Kein Grafikmonster, aber sehr stimmig.

[h1]Sound[/h1]
Der Soundtrack ist atmosphärisch und unterstützt das epische Gefühl der Reise gut. Soundeffekte sind solide, die Sprachausgabe überraschend hochwertig für ein Genre-Nischenprodukt. Das trägt viel zur Immersion bei.

[h1]Technik / Bugs[/h1]
Technisch lief das Spiel bei mir stabil. Keine Abstürze, keine Gamebreaker. Kleinere Bugs oder UI-Unschönheiten sind mir kaum aufgefallen. Insgesamt ein sauberes Erlebnis.

[h1]Grind[/h1]
Grind hält sich in Grenzen und erstreckt sich fast ausschließlich auf genaues Erkunden der Areale und Backtracking. Leveln fühlt sich natürlich an und erfordert kein stumpfes Farming. Ein gezieltes Hochleveln ist nicht möglich, da Gegner nicht respawnen. Wer optional alles erkundet, wird gut belohnt, ohne dass es zur Pflicht wird.

[h1]Spielzeit[/h1]
Die Spielzeit liegt bei etwa 20 bis 25 Stunden, je nach Spielstil und Rätsellösung. Für ein Dungeon-Crawler-RPG absolut angemessen. Das Spiel bietet genug Content, ohne sich unnötig zu strecken.

[h1]Errungenschaften / Achievements[/h1]
Die Achievements sind größtenteils an Story-Fortschritt und optionale Herausforderungen gekoppelt. 100 % sind machbar, erfordern aber gründliches Erkunden und sauberes Spielen auf einem höherem Schwierigkeitsgrad. Es ist definitiv sinnvoll sich vorab die Vielzahl an Errungenschaften einmal anzuschauen. Um 100 % zu erhalten müssen z. B. alle Gegner besiegt werden, alle verschlossenen Kisten geöffnet werden und alle Geheimisse entdeckt werden. Außerdem ist es notwendig das Spiel mit mindestens zwei Schwierigkeitseinstellungen zu beenden; diese können vorab an- und abgewählt werden. Das ist auch die letzte Errungenschaft, die mir auch noch fehlt. Kein kompletter Pain, aber auch kein Freebie.

„Operencia: The Stolen Sun“ ist ein starkes Dungeon-Crawler-RPG mit viel Charme, ungewöhnlichem Setting und solider Tiefe. Es respektiert Oldschool-Wurzeln, ohne altbacken zu wirken. Für Fans von klassischen Dungeon-Crawlern ein klarer Geheimtipp – für mich eines der runderen Genre-Vertreter der letzten Jahre.

Operencia: The Stolen Sun aurait pu être un très bon jeu. L’univers est joli, l’ambiance fonctionne bien et le style visuel est vraiment agréable. On sent qu’il y a eu du travail et de l’amour derrière ce projet.

Malheureusement, le système de combat gâche l’expérience. Sur le papier, on est libre de faire le build que l’on veut… mais dans les faits, c’est souvent à ses risques et périls. Certains choix rendent les combats longs et frustrants.

Les affrontements deviennent vite très répétitifs : des créatures qui invoquent d’autres créatures, des situations où l’on ne peut viser qu’un seul ennemi, ce qui oblige presque toujours à utiliser des attaques de zone pour avancer. On a souvent l’impression de ne pas progresser, de faire peu de dégâts, et surtout de manquer de satisfaction.

Le jeu est beau, l’idée est bonne, mais il lui manque clairement l’énergie et le plaisir du combat. Dommage, car avec un système de combat plus dynamique et mieux équilibré, Operencia aurait pu être bien plus marquant.

This is by far the greatest love letter to Hungarian folklore in video game form, even if that list isn't particularly long. Game manages to juggle both combat and puzzles in a very fun and balanced way, while the you are sucked into the lovely atmosphere that's reminiscent of the Hungarian Folk Tales animated series from the 80s. It's all so magical and I'm sure even those not familiar with the cultural backdrop could absolutely enjoy this newbie friendly dungeon crawler.

Absolutely wonderful, and I'm curious to see if they can tie the wider central european themes into a possible sequel if it ever happens.

Operencia: The Stolen Sun makes a strong initial impression, presenting itself as a classic dungeon crawler with polished visuals and a turn-based combat system. The game's interface allows for camera rotation with the mouse, enhancing the sense of exploration. Early on, the game introduces a story that unfolds gradually, and the battles are balanced with an appropriate level of difficulty.
In the beginning, you control a party of two characters, encountering a variety of enemies and discovering your first set of items. This stage also encourages experimentation with different skill combinations, resulting in an enjoyable and engaging gameplay flow.

[h2]Expanding the Party[/h2]
After completing the first area, you advance to a new location and quickly recruit additional allies, eventually assembling a group of four. However, the party size is limited to four members, so any extra characters must be kept in reserve. This introduces a minor issue: having to decide which characters to include in your active party. While some players might enjoy this aspect, it can be frustrating for those who prefer to use all available characters without restriction.

Throughout the game, item drops are frequent after battles. Each new item requires you to check whether it benefits your current party members or should be saved for those not presently in the party. However, you cannot equip or swap gear for reserve characters until you reach a campfire, where you can rest, trade items, and adjust your party composition. This system can feel cumbersome, especially when you wish to optimize your gear across all characters.

[h2]Reasons for Disengagement[/h2]
Despite these minor inconveniences, they were not the main reason for abandoning the game. The core issue was a growing sense of boredom after around 26 hours of play. The movement feels jerky, and exploration seems to serve little purpose beyond earning experience points through encounters. Puzzles fail to provide meaningful challenges, and the gameplay loop becomes repetitive, even by dungeon crawler standards. The story does little to maintain interest, as it mainly acts as a vehicle for moving from one area to another, lacking depth or engagement.
For comparison, it took 38 hours to complete Legend of Grimrock 2, indicating that the problem was not with the dungeon crawler genre itself, but rather with the monotony and lack of excitement in Operencia: The Stolen Sun.

[h2]Final Thoughts[/h2]
If there were a neutral rating option on Steam, it would be the most fitting choice for this game. However, since I did not play the game to the end, my usual approach is to leave a negative review (exceptions might happen, but not this time). This is not to discourage others from purchasing the game, but rather to caution that, unless you are a dedicated fan of this genre, you may find yourself abandoning it before reaching the end.

A surprisingly good entry into the DRPG subgenre. This game feels like a really well-made B movie: it’s not groundbreaking, but it’s genuine, and it kept me entertained from start to finish. It’s especially impressive considering it was developed by a Hungarian company best known for making physical pinball machines. As a debut in this style, it’s a surprisingly strong effort. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a first-person dungeon crawler with turn-based combat.

The positives:
- Pretty faithful use of Hungarian folklore
- Beautiful environments
- Great music
- Fully voiced
- Serviceable characters
- Really well-balanced puzzles (they are mostly on the easier side but solidly designed)
- Excellent choice for trying a forgiving DRPG (free respecs anytime at save points)

The negatives:
- The VA quality is a bit of a mixed bag
- The combat is a bit too simple and slow
- Some characters are a bit one-dimensional
- Small amount of backtracking (pet peeve of mine, I just don't enjoy doing it, too much mental load, but for a 20-25 hour game it's fine)
- Very derivative of the genre (if you played 10+ DRPGs this won't offer any new mechanics)

All in all great effort, give it a try if you are interested.

Toller, kleiner klassischer Old School Dungeon Crawler. Kachelbasiert wie in den Tagen von einst, spielt man sich durch eine lineare Kampagne, erlebt Rundenkämpfe, Rätsel und eine bunte Story:

+ ungewöhnliches Märchen-Fantasy-Setting, beeinflusst von zentraleuropäischer Folklore
+ spannende Rätsel und Metroidvania Gebiets-Design, das in jedem Dungeon verschiedene Geheimnisse versteckt, die man nach und nach entschlüsseln kann.
+ Recht spannende Rundenkämpfe, in denen Gegner ziemlich spezifische Taktiken verwenden, die man kontern muss (z.B. nutzen Nahkämpfer "Provozieren"-Sprüche, um Fernkämpfer zu schützen, Zombies werden immer wieder zum Leben erweckt, wenn man nicht alle auf einmal tötet etc.)
- absolut lineare Storyablauf ohne Entscheidungsmöglichkeiten, der eigene, selbsterstellte Charakter bleibt deshalb blass.

The game is fun and I hate to give it a thumb down, but I've got 2 hours in the game at this point and somehow managed to get softlocked two times.
The first was in the underwater dungeon - I walked into a square with a pillar and got stuck between two squares. I had to reset. The second was in the spider forest just after killing the queen. I walked into a square that the map said was walkable, but I got stuck inside some giant spider egg next to some firewood. Again, softlocked and had to reset, which put me 20 minutes ago, before the fight.
Once per game I can forgive, but twice in two hours is too much, even for me. I will gladly switch this to a recommend if this extremely common issue gets fixed.

Operencia is a pretty neat little dungeon crawler that's well worth the price if you're into these types of games. The exploration aspect is not complex by any stretch of the word, but there's a lot of nice items that add some variety to the areas and have you returning to old dungeons to open new areas and secrets. Crafting your own potions through the various recipes discovered in the world is also a nice puzzle addition.

The graphics are arguably the greatest aspect of this. The world is quite frankly stunning, with each area having it's own theme and a decent, if not mind-blowing, fairytale story running along in the background. The game is fully voiced, and while the acting isn't the greatest out there, it's clear that those doing it were having a lot of fun.

Where the game falls down slightly is probably going to be in the combat. The encounters have been designed to test the player in each area, but many of them are extremely punishing if you don't have the right characters/stat/ability attributes assigned to deal with them. The game does, refreshingly, allow you to respec/reorganise your group at any point, but that's of little consequence if you're not fully understanding how the stats interact with abilities. In short, half of the talent trees are worthless, and the other half are heavily reliant on stat allocation that isn't always obvious, such as Int on the Rogue character for their poisons, Str for their backstab, while Agi affects one crossbow shot you probably won't even take. There are some secondary abilities that come over time, many of which interact with specific spell types that are not clear because the games hint system doesn't explain them. And the loot is just as confusing, with much of it in the middle and endgame being completely worthless and often downgrades to more powerful items that came before. These issues are then compounded in the later game with encounters that seem like they are designed for chance on instant kill abilities/mass party AoE attacks, with enemies that, if left up, are either locking down your entire party with ridiculous long stuns/sleeps/charms, or doing crazy AoE damage because all of them share the same cooldowns and it's being spammed by 2-3 of them all in a row right at the start of the encounter. That said, when you understand the abilities and equip the group appropriately, the fights become extremely fun as you start blowing everything out of existence, but that's something you have to work for and will likely suffer a huge amount of frustration in the journey getting to it. In short, the combat is guaranteed to be universally hated at the start, and will either grow to be loved as it's understood or else the player will just quit. You decide which type you're likely to fall into based on your own patience levels.

All in all a solid 4/5 from me. If you go full achievements it'll be a good 50-60 hours of gameplay. It's nothing you'll likely remember once it's done, but if you can come to grips with the combat then you'll have a fun journey while you're there.

F... this game, it's boring, unbalanced and illogical(stunned enemy still "provokes" so you cannot attack someone else). 90% of enemies at the begining have immunities or resistances against your only "magical" attacks. Then you get enemies wih over 150HP with 85% resistance to melee dmg(and you still doesn't have proper mage) plus they can be summoned over and over again with immediate"provoke" status(you need to attack them), so you slowly chip through their health.
Items are boring and quite useless, 90% give you +1 too something, better weapons have 1-2 dmg more than previous one.
You dont have regeneration of life and mana between fights. You have only 2 uses of potions that restart every time you visit bonfire.
The only fun thing here are potion recipes where you need to solve how to make potion.
Overall not worth it.

O jogo é um dos poucos dungeon crawler que conheço com um ambiente tão bem montado, com rampas (florestas não são totalmente "retas", elas tem subidas e descidas), escadas e corredores/salas que não são repetitivos, uma das fases que se passa num castelo não parece algo feito numa grade 2D, cria um ambiente bem mais convincente e que prende a atenção.
O combate é em turnos, e cada personagem tem uma arvore de habilidades com 3 caminhos lineares para se desbloquear ataques seguindo uma temática diferente por ramo.
Para mim, o ponto mais alto do jogo é a história, quem entende inglês vai gostar dos diálogos entre os personagens, pois não parece forçado, cada personagem tem uma personalidade marcante e distinta, cada um com seus próprios objetivos.
Recomendo fortemente para quem gosta de jogos de masmorra mais clássicos mas com uma evolução de personagens mais parecido com jogo de RPG simples.

Loved it!
It was a joy to explore the great looking dungeons listening to the amazing soundtrack. I usually have an aversion to Unreal graphics but this is a very high quality work giving it a very atmospheric feeling.
Gameplay was well paced with a good mix of combat, puzzles and story. Felt like the game was well balanced and in never felt annoyed if I built a character "wrong" because of the great QOL feature of respeccing anytime without a cost. One thing that took a little longer was to get a feel of how different stats (there are quite a few of them actually) influence the combat, especially at lower levels.
Really liked the writing and voice acting, the character banters and snarky comments very funny the whole way through. I cracked up every time I recognized the folktale references I heard many times as a kid :) The animated cutscenes especially brought back many childhood memories of folktale cartoons and storybooks, they very fantastic!
Overall, very impressive game, kudos to he devs! I'm looking forward to a sequel or a new IP in a similar vein from this team!

A great DRPG that is definitely a good entry point for people who are new to the genre. Voice acting, a decent enough story and good combat with no grinding as the amount of enemies in the world is limited with no random encounters. There are multiple difficulty adjusters from combat difficulty to auto mapping and more. Full play through is around 30ish hours as well which is pleasantly short compared to some others in the genre.

Steam only gives the option of "yes or no", so when one has a game that can easily sway to both sides of the fence, I can't just pick a neutral option. But I will go "yes" here, an just say that it falls on the "better than average" side of the equation.

What does that mean? When something is "above average", it could either be because it does everything slightly better than normal, or it does some things amazingly, and others... less so. This game is the latter.

First off, this is a Blobber game. Unlike Grimrock et. al,, the battles take place not in-grid, but on a separate battle screen, so... Grimrock meets Etrian Oddessey. There's nothing wrong with that; but you do have to be a fan of these genres to enjoy this game. I was, so I got it.

But preamble aside, how is it both good and... perhaps not, at once?

[h2] Graphics [/h2]

For starters, the graphics. The graphics are very nice; art is smooth, animations are mostly reactive and crisp, and it looks for all the world like it could be a triple-A title.

And then... the cutscenes. the backgrounds are single, often still-image shots, and conversations are done via the "show the character portraits talking, and light up whichever is currently saying something" approach. Granted, this is the same thing that, say, Fire Emblem likes to do, and by itself isn't bad... but we aren't even talking, say, Ace Attorney here, where everyone has 6 images (neutral, happy, mad, dejected) that are used to express the situation. It's literally a single image that lights up occasionally.

This is a STARK contrast to the rest of the game's (awesome!) graphics, to the point that, at least for me, I cannot look past it. I'm not saying it's not allowed, but... pretend you are playing a final fantasy game, with a typically bombastic boss music theme. Now imagine that theme playing as you rest for the night at an Inn. Even if the theme is amazing, that just isn't fitting with everything else, is it?

Not everything has to be ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR at all times, but parts do have to fit together. At least with the Fire Emblem example, the art of the images matches the art of the rest of the game. Putting these still-frame different-artstyle single images on the screen as there is currently a fully-beautiful-boss-battle going on in the background is a major blow to the Suspension of Disbelief that a fictional visual-based medium needs.

Ok, enough graphics-conversation nitpicking. what else?

[h2] Story-to-Sound [/h2]

How about the character audio vis-a-vis the storyline? This game is the utmost in "quaint fantasy". Kingdom under attack, only your hero can save it, find the magic sword, slay the dragon, and
[spoiler] inherit the kingdom [/spoiler]. Stock, but serviceable, so long as it's done well. (as TvTropes says, "tropes aren't bad")

The issue is that the writers seem to have decided that any form of originality is unnecessary. The game's twists are minimally surprising, and the very start of the game has two guys run into each other, and within 10 seconds of conversation, appear to be the best of longtime friends?

Which is a shame, because, while the story is too bland to describe in a review with any justice, the voice actors they got for it are high-talent. One of the most effective ways I got through the visual-dichotomy of the conversations I whine about above, was to just turn my head, and listen to the conversations instead.

It came across like hiring Hollywood talent to play in a highschool-written play. The same issue as the visuals; the game designers obviously COULD do better, but the quality of different parts of the same scene clash to unignorable degrees.

Still reading? No? Fair enough. But if you are... how about the most important part of a game. The gameplay?

[h2] Is the Gameplay right for you? [/h2]

Grid based world movement, world-based fast travel to any save point, turn-based battles in the old Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest style, full restoration at any camp if you choose to use one of the game's limited "firewood" resources (for reference, I finished the game with 9 to spare. Enough to have a buffer, not enough to rest after every fight).

And...

This game uses the Might&Magic style of monsters: a finite number of spawns in the world. You will have a hard cap to the amount of experience you can earn, and therefore, the level you can achieve.

The good news is, the game is lenient with gaining that exp. Someone not in your active party for the fight? They get it too. Someone dead before you win? They get credit. The only "loss" you can have to a character is if you fight a battle before they join (later) in the story, but they come with comparable levels anyway.

AND, you can respec your characters outside of combat. All of them. Skills AND statistics. Any time, no cost. So if you want to try out a totally different combination of skills to overcome a challenge, then go for it. Just save before trying ;p.

Long story short, it's nigh-impossible to screw up your characters; you can always just rebuild them. (I suppose you could try and break the game by selling and rebuying all of the game's limited gear until you ran out of money to pay the repurchase fees, but... don't do that ;p)

For anyone who wants a challenge in the form of *fixed* variables, this is right up your alley.

However, to anyone who prefers a "grind it out" style of gameplay, you can't. You get the achievement for "hitting the highest level" at 24 (apparently, in some versions, 25 is possible, but I didn't see it).

I'm not making value judgements here. But if your desired way of handling a fight you *just barely* can't beat, is to go out and grind a couple more levels, you are going to be heavily turned off by this game.

A game with a number of things that bring down the enjoyment; some things that I will personally call "flaws", and other things I will call "personal preferences that I may not share". But through it all, I'll still give the thumbs up. It does beat a number of other Blobbers out there.

Really wish there was neutral stance, it's neither bad or particularly good.

At first I was enjoying the game, until I meet the "spawners". It's an enemy that spawns infinitely, more or less. There can be one left and the next time you get to play you're facing 6 or 7 of them. I my first play-through I fought a group of those for over 2 hours, I kept getting unlucky with the timing to kill them all at once. But that was just one of the annoyances. It nothing major and once I realise you can re-spec at will, you characters you can easily adjust you team to face any kind of treat.

The fights are slow and heavy on animations, which was nice-ish at first but after a while you just want to finish the fights as fast as possible.

Story was entertaining, puzzles in almost every map. The puzzles are usually very easy with clues that walk you to the answer. For some reason in one instance, when I played the mage, the clue got messed up, but it was ok the other time I played.

I tried all 3 classes available for the main hero, the fighter was acceptable, the ranger was close to useless and the mage was a rock star. You get companions that have a profile close to the ranger and the fighter, but none that matches the mage. If you go all in on intel, it will often fall in battle at first. But if you can cast one spell you'll still do most of the damage in the fight in the vast majority of cases. And since intel gives you initiative you often act first. Also close the the end you'll get items that will greatly increase the mage survivability.

It was an ok game, but I will not reminisce about it.

This game... just sucks. Bought it on a recommendation from a video on YT because it looked interesting, sorely regret it.

The combat isn't fun. The only way to significantly affect enemies is with skills that have both long cooldowns and high energy cost. Energy can only be regained by resting at specific points out of combat or by "defending" in combat, which means you spend most of your time in combat waiting for cooldowns and energy regen. The enemies are constantly CC'ing you, which just isn't fun. No way around the CCs either, unless you use aoe skills. There may be ways around this later in the game, I don't know, and frankly, at this point, I don't care to find out.

Most of the time out of combat is spent backtracking to rest points after fights, because if you run into certain enemies with anything less than a fully healed party, you're screwed.

The story is... bland at best.

ハンガリーのピンボールゲームメーカーが作ったダンジョンクロウル。

ダンジョンクロウルながらストーリーの展開がしっかり作られており、チュートリアルミッションで過去の英雄達を操作したり、話が進むにつれて仲間が加入していったりする。またキャラクターデザインも洋ゲー(ダンジョンクロウルは特に)にありがちなバタ臭さやイモ臭さが無く、昨今のあからさまなポリコレ臭も感じにくい、ちゃんとファンタジックなものになっている。

戦闘では敵キャラが激しく動き、攻撃や魔法のエフェクトもしっかりしていて、このあたりはピンボールゲームメーカーの矜持を感じた。また、戦闘中にもキャラクターが会話したりするので、結構JRPGの要素も取り入れている感じである。ただ、戦闘状況についてテキスト表示が少ないので、何が起きているのか分かりにくい場合が多く、味方が混乱中などは誰がどんな行動をしたか分からないまま戦闘が進んでいくので困った。

そして惜しむらくは、現状の日本語版の翻訳レベルがひと昔前の機械翻訳レベルで、せっかくのドラマチックな会話のやりとりや、パズル/なぞかけのヒントが台無しになっていることである。アイテム名の翻訳も珍妙で、極めつけは「Staff of the Frozen fire」が「アナと雪の女王」になっており、たしかにFrozenなんだけど流石にその訳はないやろ！とツッコミを入れざるを得なかった。英語が少しでも分かる人、翻訳ツールを使い慣れている人は英語表記にすることをおすすめ。

ゲームの難易度調整が絶妙で、ラスボスバトルなどは久々にRPGの戦闘で動悸がしたほどのギリギリ感が楽しめ大満足。続編を匂わせるエンディングなので、次回作ではAIを使って上手に翻訳して欲しい。

ダンジョンクロウルRPGが好きな人には非常におすすめの作品です。

It's pretty good I guess. Good character and equipment progressions. Puzzles were mostly good, though I admittedly used a guide for a quite a few of them as some solutions would have taken me much longer to complete than I wanted to spend on this game.

Tactical battles were of average-to-good quality in terms of maneuvers you can pull and enemy diversity. I played on normal setting and never died (though the last boss was close). Of course having used a guide, I never missed any secrets (i.e. I never missed any gear or experience), so played naturally, the game likely would have been tougher for me, but I don't think any more fun.

Major drawbacks includes lack of resource regeneration at the end of battle (forcing tiresome techniques) and a lot backtracking due to things you don't have yet (and for which you don't know that you don't have). One major issue to be aware of is the inability to fast travel early which could leave you under-leveled and trapped in a given area (basically soft-locked into a loss).

Story wasn't bad. I can give a soft recommend overall.

Weird directional camera movements in first seconds of VR game? Quite obvious VR wasn't the focus.
Also, status effects messages are very easily lost (or sometimes don't appear at all?) so you have to check everyones statuses after spell casts.

Very competent blobber!

On the outside it has nice graphics, animations, modern look. On the inside, it's your typical old blobber with old mechanics and unbalanced combat. It's not a bad thing, but the modern look can deceive you.

One example - the game gives you free respec of your characters at any time. Modern games do that, so you can try out different builds without the need of restarting the game. The catch is that this respec is actually needed to progress, because different bosses require different approach and you need to find out their weaknesses and exploit them.

The game has puzzles, hidden treasures, decent story, although late game areas lack variety of enemies a bit and generally they could be polished more.

I played it on PC and enjoyed it quite a bit, but with a few gripes about certain parts. The combat is fun, its slow but tactical which i enjoy. The abilties are quite standard together with the stats. But you are allowed as many re-levels as you want to try out new stuff. The maps are nice with how its the perfect size with some hidden secrets and puzzels.
My two main issues with the game, is 1 that the first map you start on was the worst one. You are learning the game and the map layout is so confusing with all the levels. Luckily the others are great. Secondly some interaction in areas or puzzels are a bit too convuluted or hard to find.

Playing on the harder difficulty, it's clear to me that some of these fights are not balanced appropriately. I'm at a point in the game where I'm forced to fight a boss (Brekt I think his name is) but my party simply cannot win the fight without getting very lucky.

It's not like there's a great amount of strategic depth to the game, there's no strategy I 'haven't thought to try'. It's simply a numbers and dice situation where I'm going to lose 9 out of 10 times, through no fault of my own.

The game otherwise is okay, though I would set it to normal difficulty unless you want to end up in this same predicament.

For anyone that likes this grid-movement style of dungeon crawler, these are the ones (thus far) that I have found to be playable, mouse-friendly and actually fun (to varying degrees), in no particular order:

グラフィックの美しさと世界観に憧れて購入。
ステージ３くらいまで進んだが、どうにも面倒になってしまった。

他のレビューにもあるが、戦闘バランスがかなり渋い。
特にステージ２に出てくるスポーンというゾンビみたいな敵がいるのだが、
自分の個体数が減ると必ず仲間を呼び出す。
その呼び出しアクションが数秒かかって面倒な上、すごくカタイ。
おまけに呼び出した個体を倒してもEXPはもらえない。
下手したら10分くらいスポーンと戦い続ける羽目になる。

常に新鮮な刺激があるように、EXP入手の機会を絞っているのだと思う。
このゲームでは敵はシンボルエンカウントで、一度戦うと復活しない。
でもそれがダンジョンクロウルと相性がいいかっていうとちょっと疑問で、
トレハンらしい要素や成長要素が薄く感じるのでなんかダルくなってくる。
（雑魚戦含めて戦闘の後に入手出来るアイテムは、実はすべて固定である）

なんていうんだろう、雑魚戦が毎回イベント戦闘みたいなイメージ。
キャラクターたちは実に活発で、しょっちゅうお喋りする。
ジョークを飛ばしたり、自分の過去を語り始めたり。
それは道中で突然起きることもあれば、キャンプ中に起きる場合もある。
これはまさに冒険活劇を見ているようで良い要素なのだが、そう、翻訳が壊滅的。

「私たちはその一人である必要がありました。そして剣、その馬は女でした」みたいな
かなり難解な日本語訳のため、英語を聞いて軽く理解する知能がないと難しいです。

This game is balanced well it feels like it has the right amount of battles, the puzzles are all unique, interesting and easy enough to figure out, thankfully you don't need do be a genius like some other games expect you to be to solve the puzzles.

As long as you explore everything and discover all secrets you can get max level. And you can get upgrades to eventually be able to have 4 healing potions, so reviews saying you are limited to one are not correct.

I like that you can respec easily as much as you want, so you can figure out what works best.

I played on normal difficulty without any hard settings and did not find any of the enemies or most bosses too difficult as a mage and with Kela you can beat them quite quickly however I found 3 of the bosses quite challenging to beat.

The voice acting is mostly good, but some of it is terrible like they were having a bad day and couldn't be bothered.

The bad is that there are only 3 playable classes and I usually go ranger, hunter, rogue type in games but hated the hunter in this game. It feels pointless to play as anything but mage. As you don't get a mage in your party until halfway through the game and you get plenty of warrior and hunter party members and the hero mage gets the best most damaging abilities in the game that only you can get as the main character. The party mage doesn't get those really good skills and is more of a healer. I don't like it when games make 1 class more essential, overpowered and enjoyable than the others. All classes should feel necessary and essential.

What they say in combat is a bit too repetitive and cringeworthy.

I liked the story, but at the campfire it was kind of boring at times with the group waffling on to the point it was causing me to zone out and not hear anything they were saying.

Overall this is a good enjoyable game which I loved exploring each area.

Incredible classic dungeon crawler with modern graphics and controle - I am loving it!

I especially like that all characters are real characters and not just random foes. They all have something to say and are fully voiced.

Oh, did I mention that it's reeeeally beautiful? And easy-to-play? And has a great user interface?

Oh, and I have more praise for the game: The game has a incredibly smart but tiny detail for inventory management: If you click on the weapon of one characters in the inventory, you only see all the weapons available, not all items in the inventory. It makes the inventory so manageable - why does not every other game has this feature?

Oh and another thing: The minimap shows you the most important things you discovered. A piece of wood or a chest, it's all there. So awesome!

I have even more praise! I love how the characters give hints when you take too long for a puzzle. I love the puzzles in this game but usually I don't have the patience in other games. This is just perfect.

Another thing I just realized: I love that on normal difficulty I become slightly overpowered. I love that! I love to crush my anamies without having to fear for dying. So great!

I like this way more than Might & Magic 10 and also more than The Bards Tale Remake.

UPDATE AFTER ENDING:

After finishing the game I must say I generally enjoyed it a lot BUT I enjoyed the last 3rd less than the rest of the game.

Main reasons are:

- The items you find are all weaker in the end of the game than the ones you already have

- So much puzzles ugh!

- The end battle are becoming harder and harder and more frustrating.

So in the end I just wanted to finish the game and I am happy now but it war more of an endurance run than anything else. Still awesome game tough.

One last word: I absolutely loved the "4 + 4 = 11" puzzle!

Das Spiel nutzt die Unreal-Engine und die Level und Gegner sind (für einen Dungeon-Crawler) sehr hübsch gemacht worden. Als Hintergrund dienen ungarisch-slawischen Märchen und Erzählungen.
Die Gegner sind animiert, Bogenschützen lassen zum Beispiel mal einen Pfeil fallen und Gegner mit einem Schild unterstreichen ihre "Spott"-Aktion, indem sie mit ihrem Schwert auf ihren Schild klopfen.
Die Überleitungen zu den Kapiteln sind gut gemacht und die Zeichnungen der Charaktere usw. wirklich gelungen.

Die Rätsel sind meistens so gestaltet, dass die Hinweise darauf in der Umgebung zu finden sind, wobei man einige Sachen erst später erledigen kann, so findet man erst später eine Schaufel, mit der man dann nach Schätzen graben kann oder eine Feder, die das Anheben von schweren Gegenständen ermöglicht.
Das Lagermenü wird nach und nach durch weitere Funktionen ergänzt; so kommt dann noch ein Händler dazu, eine Schnellreisefunktion oder ein Kessel zum Tränke brauen (die Rezepte müssen aber erst gefunden oder gekauft werden).

Weniger gut gelungen dagegen sind die Kämpfe und deren Schwierigkeitsgrad. Ich hatte im Verlauf des Spiels immer mehr den Eindruck, dass die Werte meiner Helden kaum eine Rolle spielen, bis auf den Hauptcharakter blieb der Schaden der anderen Gruppenmitglieder meistens überschaubar und die Kämpfe waren recht zäh. Was bringt es einem, wenn die Gegner eine Schwäche gegen Blitze haben, Blitzzauber aber nur von zwei Helden überhaupt gewirkt werden können und der eine davon nach drei Runden bereits K.O. ist?
Nach zwei oder drei Gegnergruppen war dann auch immer Schluss und ich musste an einem der vorgegebenen Punkte rasten (wofür man übrigens jedesmal mit einem limitierten Stück Holz bezahlt). Der einzige Händler im Spiel hat zudem ein wirklich arg überschaubares Angebot, wie im Sozialismus. Warum gibt es dann überhaupt Gold im Spiel?
Ich habe es zwar noch bis zur (wahrscheinlich) letzten Phase des Endkampfs geschafft, dort dann aber keine Optionen (Fertigkeiten und Tränke) mehr zur Verfügung gehabt und es dann aufgegeben.
Außerdem konnte ich im ersten Dungeon einen Abschnitt partout nicht erreichen und hatte am Ende noch einen Truhenschlüssel übrig, aber keine passende Truhe mehr. Zu den Geheimnissen zählt der Abschnitt aber nicht.

stupid game. the grid based movement is absolutely moronic.. the graphics are pathetic at best.. the story is uninspiring and then you find out you can only have ONE heal potion for the entire group.. its just a very badly designed game!

got stuck on the first 'major' boss who does way more damage than I can either heal or mitigate.. and constantly summons.. and there is no way to 'level up' before the fight.. party composition is the 'holy trinity'.. so unless RNG is screwing me over.. no idea how other ppl get past her...

Remek játék sok kihívással. Nem hazudok ha azt mondom így ilyen mennyiségben még nem találkoztunk videójátékban az ősi magyar hitvilággal, magyar helyszínekkel, szereplőkkel. Nem vagyok nagyon otthon ebben a műfajban, de sikerült egyből beszippantania. Nem egy túl bonyolult történet, de szépek az átvezetők a szinkronhangok jók, bár itt azért annyit megjegyeznék, hogy nagyon jó lett volna ha készül hozzá magyar szinkron kicsit fura volt ez hogy az angol szövegek között vannak olykor magyar szövegek. De egyébként többnyire csak pozitív tapasztalataim voltak.

Un splendide dungeon crawler qui reprend la grande tradition du genre tout en y apportant des éléments personnels très intéressants.
La direction artistique est magnifique. Les environnements sont variés et toujours agréables à l'oeil. On y trouve aussi bien les couloirs souterrains classiques que des lieux en plein air.

Le déplacement se fait en case par case avec cette spécificité qu'on peut librement bouger la caméra dans chaque case. C'est original et il faudra souvent regarder tout autour de soi pour pouvoir progresser.

Les énigmes ne sont jamais rébarbatives ni trop tordues. Il faudra souvent interagir avec le décor au moyen d'outils variés qu'on débloque au cours de sa progression dans l'histoire.

Les sauvegardes se font sur des points de sauvegarde, mais on fait une sauvegarde temporaire à n'importe quel endroit lorsqu'on quitte le jeu (qui donc disparaît quand on reprend le jeu).

Les combats sont clivants, d'apres ce que j'ai ou lire dans les avis des joueurs. Certains détestent, d'autres adorent, et je fais partie de ceux là. C'est un système de tour par tour très stratégique avec beaucoup de paramètres. Chaque personnage a ses propres capacités et il faudra trouver celles qui sont le mieux adaptés aux types d'ennemis. il n'y a pas à proprement parler de mobs, chaque combat demande du soin et de l'attention, et sont relativement longs. La dimension stratégique repose essentiellement sur la gestion des cooldown. En effet, chaque capacité demande un certain nombre de tours avant de pouvoir être réutilisée. De même, on peut remonter sa mana en cours de combat, mais pas plus d'un tour sur trois.
Il y a aussi un peu de ressource management, car le repos nécessite un consommable, on ne peut donc pas se reposer à l'infini, mais ça reste peu contraignant. Il y a suffisamment de ces consommables pour s'en sortir sans mal et bien sûr à condition de ne pas épuiser sa mana sans réfléchir.

Les ennemis ne respawn pas, il n'y a donc pas de leveling possible. En contrepartie, on peut redistribuer ses points de stats et ses capacités à volonté. Certains combats seront vraiment tendus mais jamais injustes.
Le combat final semble avoir été nerfé si j'en crois les commentaires que j'ai pu lire dessus. Une fois que j'avais compris ce qu'il fallait faire, je m'en suis sorti sans trop de difficultés, et j'ai pu finir ce jeu magnifique avec une grande satisfaction.

J'ai terminé le jeu en mode facile, et je suis bien tenté de recommencer en haussant la difficulté d'un cran.

Thank you for this game!
It delivered well everything that was promised: beautiful dungeons, cool classic but varied puzzles, great soundtrack and a well balanced challenge in an overall good story.

The big strength I see are :
- The fully flexible respec/restat at any point of the game. It erases the stress of "I can't try this because if it's ♥♥♥♥ i'll have to wait 5h before I can change it, if I can at all" of other games. I had a lot of fun changing comps and builds.
- The potion system is well thought. Crafting them through a little riddle mini-game, and having auto-refill charges on rest is another idea that solves the well known issue of player hoarding powerups until "the right moment", which never happens and you end up with 9999 potions in stock.
- The voice acting was rather nice. Some felt a bit too forced (looking at you Kampo) but at least it was not bland.

The 2 things I would say are vastly improvable are:
- the early game balance of casters : if you don't pick mage first, you don't get one (which is rather a support) before half the game, or have Joska with poison spells (with the 2 first maps full of ennemies resisting.... poison :D). Actually i fully recommend any player to play mage first run. It's fun, powerful and other classes are way better covered that this one.
- having a combat log. Many times i took damage or had my turn skipped (probably due to CC) without being even able to see what was happening to me through the animations.

Those are details though, and I can only recommand this game to everyone. It was a blast!

A mostly, old school party based, dungeon crawler in the vein of Bard’s Tale, Wizardry, Might and Magic, etc. For those who aren’t super old, the most similar game that is somewhat newer would be The Legend of Grimrock, though this has turn based combat. This is a more modern take on the genre though, with the ability to look any direction, smooth movement and a much more story and character focused game. Your character and party will often interject, commenting on dungeon features, story beats and just small talk. The story and characters are all fully voiced, and the voice acting can be quite good (with some exceptions). The gameplay itself is the usual for this type of game with exploring, fighting creatures in your way and a handful of puzzles per area. The puzzles are mostly well done and intuitive, but there are some where the objective or clues are just too obscure. One near the end was also a way too long / hard slide puzzle that killed the pacing. Many puzzles also require artifacts you will find later in the game. Once you unlock it though, getting back to those points is pretty painless. The combat is turned based, with each party member and monster acting based off their initiative. Unlike the old games, each character gets skills with cooldowns they can use in addition to their basic melee and ranged attack. Beyond that, there are a few original things like a potion creation mini-game (you just have to figure out recipes you find, no experimentation) and an unusual fantasy setting based on non-D&D / non-western fantasy.

The positives are the characters, dungeon design, atmosphere and mostly the puzzles. A lot of life is breathed into the game via the voice acting and storytelling with some very excellent voice acting from some characters (unfortunately this also makes the bad ones stick out more). The characters are all unique, gameplay wise as well. The first companion you find is a rogue, but if you start as a rogue your skill trees are pretty different. The same goes for all others, making each character unique. The puzzles are usually pretty short, and easy enough to figure out the concept and solution that you won’t get annoyed or frustrated. Of course, there are some exceptions as I noted elsewhere, but there is the internet to help if needed.

For negatives, the game has a weird combat system where abilities use energy, but you don’t regenerate energy at all unless you camp (which uses limited wood) or defend during battle. Defending has a cooldown and can only be done once every three turns. Abilities tend to use a lot of EP’s, so you will find yourself defending a lot, which gives combat a weird feeling and is not particularly fun. Not a fan of that system. Also, the fact that camping uses wood and you have no clue how much wood you will find or how long the game is, can make you too conservative. I ended the game with a lot of wood, but I also used the defend mechanism way more than I would have liked. The game balance is a bit all over the place as well. There are a few, very annoying enemies with abilities like energy drain or unlimited summoning that can be hard… but more so, they are just annoying and not fun. Some of the abilities available to you, also feel off. Your rogue will be your only source of healing for almost half the game for instance. And if you don’t’ play as a mage, you will be lacking area of effect spells for a long time as well. For the story, while well delivered, it was not my cup of tea. You will be talking to gods, and hearing tales of tears making lakes and other over the top types of story beats. While original, I prefer a more grounded setting.

So, is this worth a buy. For me it was, but I think it will be hit or miss with many people, even those who like dungeon crawlers. If you like, over the top and well delivered stories, exploration and puzzles and aren’t as interested in character building and combat, you will probably like it. If you are used to this genre being very combat heavy, with well balanced and fun combat and that is mainly what you are looking for, this game might not be for you.

Not a terrible game, but the combat, resting/firewood system, and lack of resources just make your characters feel incredibly weak when clearing all the mobs from the later dungeons, yet somehow the bosses are still pushovers.

I'd only recommend this game if you HAVEN'T already gotten everything you can out of Legend of Grimrock 1 & 2. Frankly, those games do what this game is attempting, but 10x better.

I will say the game is very competently voice acted and there's still fun to be had, but there are better versions of this type of game out there. Still worth picking up on sale and I'll probably finish this game despite my frustrations.

Nicht gut. Voller Bugs, schlechter Lokalisation, voller (spielzerstörender) Bugs, lechtem Gamedesign in Sachen Kampfsystem (endlos Nachspawnen Gegner bspw, katastrophale Bosse, die Ender super, komplett verbuggt, oder lächerlich stark, weil gegen alles resistent, was es gibt - wobei dies vermutlich ein Bug sein muss); achja hab ich bereits die Bugs erwähnt. Die Kämpfe machen überhaupt keinen Spaß. Generell das Spiel tut sich schwer mit Spaß, sowas lässt sich lediglich irgendwie in Ansätzen erkennen. Die "Rätseln" sind teilweise entweder unlogisch, trial an Error, oder komplett an den Heraden herbei gezogen unverständlich, dass manche nichtmal Sinn machen, NACHDEM man sie gelöst und dann im Internet in diversen Walkthroughs nachgeguckt hat, was eigentlich Sache. Viele Rätsel gleichen auch eher nach nem Wimmelbild, wobei man das ganze Level nach iwas durchsuchen, und teilweise hier Stunden vergehen. Ich habe mich 30 Stunden das Spiel gequählt! Es war wirklich schlimm, da können auch das Nette Artwork und die teilweise guten (aber auch etwas belanglosen) Dialoge nichts mehr retten. Finger weg, bestenfalls geschenkt mal rein gucken! ---- ABSOLUTE KAUFWARNUNG!!!

Operencia is the hidden gem I didn't know I needed. I've always been a big fan of dungeoncrawlers akin to Eye of the Beholder, Lands of Lore, Might and Magic, Dungeon Master and the more recent Legend of Grimrock series. This game has a lightly digestible but similar taste to it, with an interesting storyline and challenging puzzles and fights to boot. A very enjoyable, quirky dungeon crawler I heartily recommend!

Ein schöner und zum Teil auch herausfordernder Dungeon Crawler mit Rätseln und knackigen Kämpfen. Man hätte sich etwas mehr Feuerholz gewünscht (damit kann man Lebensenergie und Magie regenerieren), um die Herausforderung für Gelegenheitsspieler etwas niedriger anzusetzen. Aber schlussendlich bin ich im ersten Durchgang als Magier mit 10 Feuerholz Rest durchgekommen. Den zweiten Durchlauf dann mit Kämpfer und höherem Schwierigkeitsgrad. Wer Probleme in Kämpfen hat, sollte seine Skillpunkte und Fähigkeiten zurücksetzen und den Herausforderungen entsprechend neu verteilen. Die Nutzung eines Guides ist zu empfehlen.
Das Spiel bekommt eine bedingte Empfehlung für leidensfähige Spieler. Wer keine Frusttoleranz mitbringt, sollte es meiden.

The game is very very Pretty, but by about half way through the game, it is a slog to play. The demo was the best level of the game. Combat has frustrating enemies immune to most of your higher abilities, your normal attacks do bugger all damage. It is repetitive and although I really wanted to like this game, it is Beautiful Boredom. I may come back to it once I forget how frustrating it is.

Played this through multiple times on Xbox, and bought it on here to support it, though I can't see us ever getting another at this point.

The music, artwork, characters and their banter, are all great. Level design is fun with different puzzles, hidden areas, and a small amount of fast traveling back to find hidden areas or items you couldn't get before having the right ability/tool. Turn based combat is good, but there are a couple of enemies later on that are just awful, namely one that drains your mana on a counter attack, and another that can confuse your whole party in one cast AND you can fight three of them at once, so no way to burn them all down in time. It is doable, though, as I've beaten the game on the hardest combat difficulty. Animations could be faster sometimes, when you're fighting 5 enemies at once and you have to wait for them all to go through the motions, I could see that frustrating people.

My biggest complaint is that the thief/rogue class is entirely pointless. There are no full damage mages you can recruit, so going mage is great for AoE and a unique party setup. There's one warrior you recruit, but it's not a waste to go double warrior as they have the best single target damage with double strike, as well as high health/survivability. There are TWO rogues you get in the game, you can use them both at once, and your own rogue has no unique abilities, so why bother?

Fun on first go, save a few fights, and it became a good comfort game I can go back to during a long week. Wish we'd get a sequel.

I played this on xbox years ago via gamepass and since it isn't on there anymore I saw it was pretty cheap so bought it to try to play it again. And after a few days back with it and with how poorly balanced the game is and how obtuse some of the puzzles can be I cannot recommend this game. Which is a shame because the stuff I remembered liking like the world, characters and metriodvania style backtracking work really well. But the terribly designed puzzles, dungeons, and fights especially late game make this a truly unfun experience. On normal in the final dungeon if I get two characters confused for any amount of time its easy 75% chance I wipe. The excuse of "poor optimization" or teambuilding is invalid when the game does a terrible job of explaining anything and there is a hard mode for that type of optimization. Additionally Puzzle/Dungeon design especially late game become so confusing and hard to figure out what specific item I need to complete x or y. Some items don't highlight if they are interactible so sometimes I'm just whipping my mouse around hoping I see something to interact with.

The last 3-5 hours of playing have been a lesson on when to give up a game. I already beat it once and I remember the final boss being a slog then even with rose tinted glasses. I cannot keep playing, If you don't look up optimal teams/strats I hope you get lucky on team builds and RNG but the best way to get lucky is to find a different RPG.

I was really unsure about this. Years passed while I was affraid of Operencia.

I've read the reviews, and most of them said that Operencia is not a really fun game.
But I think those reviews are wrong. I admit, that the graphics is not the best,
but other than that the puzzles are great, the story is lovely and the secrets are cool as well.
Maybe because of the preconception and but I really loved it.

If you liked Legend of Grimrock I think you should give Operencia a try.

This game is MUCH better than I expected. I was ready for a mildly-serious turn-based dungeoncrawler with decent fairy-tale graphics.
This game is actually one of the better classic dungeon-crawlers I have played. The story has much more emphasis than I expected and is decently well-told. Even better: The overall designs and ideas of this game seem to stem from folklore, the game is much bigger than is to be expected and the combat is actually decently challenging and fun. Just make sure to pick a mage on your very first playthrough to speed initial fights up as those can drag on a little.

This is a VERY competent game with snappy humour. Now let's just hope for an "Operancia 2" down the line.

Somehow I got 39 out of 47 achievements unlocked despite never playing this game. Weird, right? Legit - bought it on sale, never played it before, and suddenly a bunch of saved games with 20 or so hours worth of time invested into them shows up. I don't know, I don't get it.
So anyway, I played this for the FIRST TIME - and it's a buggy MESS. Combat feels slow when it should be quick. You can save at campfires, but otherwise you only save IF YOU QUIT THE GAME.
I played for 4 hours and got stuck on the environment 3 different times.
The chatter from the party members (you start out solo, immediately gain 1 follower, then gain another on the next map, and apparently more later on) sounds and feels asinine.
Lastly, when you use mana (which pretty much is with everything, no joke) there is no way to recover it unless you defend for a round - which has a few round cooldown. The mechanics for combat don't do this game any favors.
I love dungeon crawlers, and this had the potential to be a great hidden gem, but I am walking away from this completely disappointed. If you get it on a deep sale (like it is right now) then it might be worth it, but otherwise, I would hard pass on this game.

Sorry, but absolutely not. The exploration is okay, if a bit basic, but the combat is a miserable slog. Everything has way too much HP and will grind you down through slow, tedious battles of attrition. You can speed things up a small amount with skills, but they have long cooldowns, and use tons of energy, so either you're going to be resting between nearly every battle, or dealing with not being able to use your skills most of the time. Not sure who balanced this game, but they're clearly incompetent. The story is okay, the puzzles are okay, but the combat takes a game that could be at least okay and make it utter trash. Skip this one.

Also es ist jetzt schon eine Weile her, dass ich es gespielt habe, aber wollte trotzdem nochmal meine Meinung dalassen. Habe gerade angefangen Legend of Grimrock 2 zu spielen, daher kam mir der Gedanke.
Operencia ist (meiner Meinung nach) noch besser wie die beiden Legend of Grimrock Teile (Welche natürlich auch gut sind).

Bei Operencia gefällt mir die Story bzw. diese Dialoge zwischendurch ganz gut, die Steuerung ist butterweich und die ganzen Funktionen und die Steuerung sind wirklich gut.

Ich kann das Spiel nur empfehlen, wenn jemand Dungeon Crawler mag ;-)

A solid first person dungeon crawler, though with a scope much greater than just the dungeons. Feels much less polished as the game goes on, as the combat grows increasingly annoying to deal with and certain areas begin to outstay their welcome.
I would highly recommend you play a Mage, as the companions the game provides are excellent substitutes for the Warrior and Hunter (warrior-type companions are plentiful).
Pick it up if you like the genre, if you are unsure then I would recommend a better first person dungeon crawler.

Fantastic 1st person dungeon crawler. It's not possible to grind, once you kill an enemy it stays dead, but you also don't need to as long as you explore and try to find all secrets.

Speaking of secrets, for the most part you can't find all secrets in an area the first time around, so you need to make use of the fast travel system that opens up after a while to go back with new abilities to find new secrets and treasure. That's really nice.

It's also really nice to see a dungeon crawler with heavy focus on story, it's been a while since we had one of those. The story is good, the characters are phenomenal, and the exploration and combat is great.

There are however some weird quirks, such as digging up a secret treasure pops up the message "Alas! Treasure!"... it should probably be "Aha! Treasure!" or something that's not "Alas" since that's used to express pity.

Anyway, it's a solid experience. Anyone who enjoys dungeon crawlers will probably enjoy this one. 9/10

This game is an absolute gem. I haven't seen a REALLY good dungeon crawler since Grimrocks - and this is it. Finally!

However, the "mandatory" Grimrock comparison isn't really valid. In fact, tile-based movement is just about the only thing Operencia has in common with these two masterpieces. Which doesn't stop it from being a masterpiece in its own right, as far as I'm concerned.

So, what do we have here?

[b]Exploration and looks.[/b]
So, movement is tile-based. But the camera is completely free: you can look around as much as you like, and sometimes, something gets placed in a "special" way. Don't panic: the game doesn't abuse it (or provides hints).

Locations are 3D and have multiple floors as well as different heights within a single "floor". Pits also exist, but they are few and never used to access anything that you can't reach otherwise. Occasionally there are elevators and other means of vertical travel.

All of it looks gorgeous and diverse. Music is awesome too, with a unique theme for each location - if a bit repetitive at times, since it plays constantly without pauses.

[b]Party.[/b]
In Operencia, you only create your main character. The rest of your party consists of unique characters who join you as the story progresses. There are 6 companions in total, and max party size is 4 (main + 3 others). You can change party at campfires (universal "hubs" for everything from saving to alchemy and trading), but the story and narrative assumes that they all travel together. So, inactive characters get full experience and participate in dialogue.

There are no classes as such. Instead, everyone has a skill tree with 3 branches. Most (not all) of these are unique. What's NOT obvious about skills is that they do get more effective as you level up (e.g. get better success rates). There are also 6 attributes (strength etc). You get 3 points per level, but bonuses can also be gained via skill trees and, of course, items (up to +10 bonus).

There are also FREE redistribute buttons! Yes, you can respec your characters anytime, as many times as you like. If you play with hard combat, you'll probably have to do it multiple times. Leveling up "correctly" doesn't matter that much in the first half of the game, but things get a lot more painful later, and not everything can be "fixed" by items (especially if you can't even wear them).

[b]Setting, story and dialogue.[/b]
Operencia has a mildly intriguing setting based on Hungarian (and other) folklore, with a tiny bit of history in the mix. Three worlds, World Tree, Sun God, dragons, griffins, fairy curses, stars from heaven in human form, Attila the Hun - you have it all. The story has most of the standard "unexpected" turns and revelations. But it's neither dull, nor confusing. Constant lighthearted party banter helps too (there's a lot of it).

[b]Secrets.[/b]
If you are one of those taught by Grimrock to walk around wall-hugging, looking for hidden buttons - relax. There are just 3 buttons in the whole game, and they are hard to miss. There are some illusionary walls, which can also be noticed with relative ease because they are semi-transparent. Light sources located nearby make it even easier. Other secrets are either puzzle-based, item-based or artifact-based.

[b]ARTIFACTS![/b]
This is one of the best features of Operencia! As you progress, you'll find unique items which give you new abilities. You'll need them to progress, but they are also used for secrets. And a lot of these require artifacts which are obtained later in the story (sometimes MUCH later), so you'll have to backtrack to find them all. This adds a bit of a "metroidvanic" vibe to the game, which adds a lot to the fun, so I won't spoil any details.

[b]Backtracking.[/b]
Old locations can be revisited once you finish the first 3. Then, you are completely free to backtrack, with just one obvious (and temporary) exception. The game does give you a lot of "no-return" warnings, but really, you can just ignore them. No matter what it says, you CAN go back. Only the final battle is, well, FINAL: once your start it, you win the game or you die (no post-gameplay).

[b]Puzzles.[/b]
Puzzles are there. Not nearly as much in Grimrock and not nearly as challenging. There are standard ones which you've seen a hundred times and probably hate by now. There are unique ones. Some rely on artifacts. None are particularly hard, and the worst part is that the devs somehow managed to make a great old-school game without respecting their players' brains - so they made your companions give lots of unwanted hints, ruining about 90% puzzles which were easy to begin with...

[b]Alchemy.[/b]
Alchemy is... weird. When you find a "recipe", instead you get a riddle describing various properties of the ingredients. You need to solve it by arranging these properties correctly. You don't have to collect the actual ingredients. You just get the potion with a limited number of "charges" (yeah, I know it should be "doses" - go tell the devs), which can be replenished by resting. Oh, and you'll need a cauldron first.

[b]Saving and resting.[/b]
There are some autosaves (depending on your difficulty settings). To save manually, you have to visit a campfire. There, you can also do other things (more unlock as you progress), but primarily - rest by spending "firewood" (limited resource) to replenish your HP, energy and potions. Contrary to some of the game's wording, you DO NOT need to spend firewood to save!

[b]Combat.[/b]
Unlike Grimrock, where you kite monsters in real-time on the same maps you are exploring, Operencia uses a classic turn-based system. You see a monster on the map, you approach, you switch into combat mode and the monster becomes 3-5 monsters... The only thing that matters before the combat is whether you approach from behind to ambush, or get ambushed yourself. Ambushing side gets an initiative bonus for the first turn.

In battle, enemies are positioned in 3 lines by distance: close, medium, far. This is unchangeable: killing the frontliners does NOT move the rest closer! You can attack anyone with any weapon (e.g. far line with a dagger), unless someone *taunted* you. The distance just scales the attack's damage according to its own "efficiency graph" (visible in UI).

Your party does NOT have front/back lines. The enemies attack whoever they want, the best way to prevent it (well, except AOE) is the infamous Taunt ability... Problem is - for the most of the game it is YOUR ENEMIES who spam Taunt against you! Only a couple of skills can counter it, and they have ridiculously high energy cost and cooldown, making a lot of fights infuriatingly hard, sometimes impossible without just the right setup. Hello unlimited respecs...

There are also rechargeable "party skills", but they are unlocked gradually as you progress.

Combat UI is severely lacking in terms of giving information. Tooltips mention "weapon damage" without ever saying what it is. Enemies are labeled "Elite" without telling you what it means (hint: you can't instakill them). Attack animations mix with idle animations, damage/immunity flyouts are quick and color-coded, so it's easy to miss what happens and hard to understand why: there is no combat log whatsoever!

Still, somehow, the combat manages to be quite fun between all the frustrations. I played with "hard" combat and had a good challenge, but never really got stuck. I even managed to clear out the final location with just one rest (right before the final battle), and I still had 8 spare units of firewood. There really are more than enough other ways to conserve and replenish your resources if you pay attention to all of the game's features. But if you just rest after each battle or two, I guess you'll run out quickly...

Good news: mobs don't respawn!

[b]To sum it up:[/b] if you love dungeon crawlers, you should definitely play this. Operencia can be very frustrating at times, but it is totally worth it!
