It has a rather slow start, but the story is getting better as it goes. Not an emotional roller-coaster experience but Still a well-crafted game.
Rather brilliant Wadjet title. This game's plot is like a take on the plot of the film Timecop, but with a focus to avoid being killed in the past, and trying to deal with changes in history. The plot is certainly tricky to work with, but the puzzles are well thought out, and the time-rewind mechanic really provides a novel touch to overcoming obstacles.
Throughly enjoyed this one.

gut unterhalten. Der gewählte Grafikstil ist
zwar etwas Detailarm und anders als das, was man
bisher gewohnt war, ging das im Fall der
Spielfiguren für mich noch in Ordnung aber in den
Trailern kann man schon sehen das die größeren
gezeichneten Nahaufnahmen die im Spiel vorkommen
eine stark schwankende Qualität haben. Auf einigen
sieht die Protagonistin aus wie 20+ in anderen
würde ich sie auf 80+ schätzen. Hat man zwischendrin
den Zeichner gewechselt? Ging er in Urlaub?
In anderen Titeln von Wadjet Eye Games habe ich eine
konstante und bessere Leistung gesehen.
Die Rätsel waren ganz gut und einige blieben bei mir
noch eine Weile im Gedächtnis. Insgesamt bekommt man
für 20€ ein passables Point & Click Adventure auch
wenn mir persönlich Unavowed, Shardlight oder Blackwell
besser gefallen haben.

Fell in love with the characters - the puzzles were fun, but I mostly played for the story

Wadjet Eye has done it once again! Their games always have this elusive combo of coziness and high-stakes storytelling, and Old Skies is no exception. This one is a good bit longer than many adventure games I've played, and it earns that extended runtime in spades. The game is also interesting in that it depicts time travel in a more grounded context than I've often seen. It has a lot of intriguing plot developments and suspenseful moments as one would hope from the genre, but it's also very focused on character and philosophical concerns. This balance lends a lot to the game's replayability. The graphics look great and vibrant, the voice acting is top-tier, and the writing keeps you guessing and engaged throughout. Basically, stop waiting and buy this game!
This game made me sob ugly style. It was delightful. Even if some of the puzzles were a tad annoying, it was worth it for everything else. Wadjet games continues their bangers only streak.

The story and the characters are compelling and touching. Sure, it's not too challenging and doesn’t have the good old item-combination puzzles, but the tasks are varied enough to stay interesting. Time-travel stories are hard enough to pull off, and this one is done well. The backgrounds are beautiful as always, and I was delighted to hear Thomas Regin’s music again, including some Blackwell references. It’s very well made, with a satisfying length and great quality-of-life features that make it enjoyable and seamless.

Phenomenally well-written characters drive this slow, but engaging and well-paced, time travel story. In a genre of typically short games it's length (around 14-15 hours if I hadn't left it on in background) allows it to take it's time and really deliver the depth it's characters need to tie it's plot together and earn those emotional moments, both those within each chapter and over the main protagonists story.
The puzzles aren't especially hard. There's very little inventory management and they're typically solved through information gathering via exploration & conversation. I was frustrated by the time-loop scenarios at first where you need to avoid death, but once I understood that dying & rewinding wasn't always a loss of progress & often (not always) leads towards the solution I was able to appreciate them for what they were.

Disappointed. First Wadjet Eye game i did not enjoy. Struggled through just to see the end of it.
I really hope their next game will be more story focused as before.

Great adventure game
What starts as another fun take on the mechanics of time travel ends up as an affecting story about what makes life meaningful and worth living. This is a great game which like other Wadjet Eye games is a very streamlined point-and-click adventure game where as long as your paying attention the few available clues you'll solve the puzzles in due time.
The story premise and cast of characters are unique and full of highs and utter gut punch lows—so many, but they never feel unearned. Voice cast and performances are a great all around, to the point I felt guilty whenver I got impatient and skipped any of it.
If you want an interesting game, fleshed out characters, and an affecting story which will make you feel the feels (plus a fun look at the history of New York City) then by all means pick this one up!
Love everything Wadjet Eye Games does, but, gosh, this one was outstandingly good. The writing is so excellent, the story was so great. And it was longer than I've expected. Love it, easily one of the best adventure games of the recent years, can highly recommend.
"Old Skies" is one of the coolest point-n-click adventure games I've ever played. The layers of complexity in the story and challenging/fun puzzles. I love Wadjet Eye Games. They're single-handedly keeping this genre alive by developing quality games like this.
A modern classic with a beautifully written and engaging story. The game is not heavy on traditional, inventory-driven puzzle, but instead rely to a large extent on dialogue and exploring the environment. The time-travelling aspect is very cool, and if you like that part of Day of the Tentacle, you will probably also like it in Old Skies.
The game is divided into chapters, and each chapter feels like a game on its own. However Dave Gilbert manages to tie the story together perfectly. The graphics are great and the dialogue and voice acting is top notch. If you like well written, story-driven adventure games (and who doesn't?), just go ahead and play Old Skies already.

I always do my best to go into any new Wadjet Eye game knowing as little about it as I can. WEG is the only publisher that has earned my blind trust. Yet I am always pleasantly surprised. Old Skies gripped me from start to finish.
The expected writing quality was there in spades, natural and engaging, whilst leaving the player enough space to connect dots in unstated story points. All characters are three-dimensional, with their strengths and flaws textually and subtextually palpable. From the superbly developed protagonist Fia on down to young Paula Inman.
Being a story-first kind of gamer, I appreciate the puzzles being logical and pertinent to the narrative purpose they serve. So what if the puzzles aren't all that difficult? The important thing is that they make sense to the scene, the characters, and the overall story.
The atmosphere is always on point, regardless of what "current when" we're playing in. Be it the visuals (I didn't miss the usual character portraits), the soundtrack (Thomas Regin always delivers), and the characters' (and actors') adjustments to the different times they visited.
The voice acting was (also expectedly) excellent. Sally Beaumont, Edwyn Tiong, and Abe Goldfarb, (and everyone else, really) fully embodied their characters to the point where I was engrossed in what would otherwise be a difficult premise for immersion. Dave Gilbert's voice acting director's hat is every bit as good as his storytelling one.
I played Old Skies three times in one week to get all achievements, during a particularly challenging time in my life, almost a year ago. It was exactly the right story I needed to get lost in, so I could get out of my own head and refresh my perspective in the up until then seemingly losing battle of finding a new place to rent in the Irish housing market. Once I was back in the fight, I landed the best place possible for me and my two cats.
Much like the Blackwell Series got me out of a deep funk when I first found WEG back in 2010, Old Skies rescued my mind and gave it a boost in resilience. The thematic current of choice and consequences and all the existentialism around it gave me a lot of food for thought - and action.
And on a less relevant note, the price was exactly right, as my profile pic will confirm.
tl;dr: Old Skies is an amazing game. Whether or not you're familiar with WEG (so many sweet, sweet Blackwell and Unavowed easter eggs), I guarantee you will enjoy playing this game whilst getting lost in the story. Or I'll eat my imaginary hat.

I don't really play point and click games but the story here is incredible. The voice acting is also great.
Old Skies won me over with its clever story and original use of time travel. The puzzles were pleasantly easy, letting me enjoy the narrative uninterrupted. And if you ever got stuck, you could always talk to your partner at HQ (Nozzo) for a subtle hint. The graphics were Wadjet Eye’s most modern—beautiful and perfectly fitting the atmosphere. The music, while occasionally a bit strong, overall enriched the experience. The controls were just right—non-intrusive—and pressing space highlighted hotspots, which helped me enjoy the game even more. The smart ending tied it all together with satisfaction. For those new to adventure games, it will initiate them in a way that makes them seek more strong stories, and for veterans, it’s a gem not to miss. Personally, having played many adventure games, Old Skies easily makes it into my top five of all time! Sure a 10/10.
this is one of the most amazing point and click adventure games i've ever played. Loved the story and most of the characters, but hated the ending. I wish there had been more choice/option because I really wanted to see some of the characters [spoiler]Duffy and Marla] involved in the last chapter suffer [and keep Fia at her job]

Terminado Old Skies, me siento raro... creo que su historia evoca muchas emociones al final del camino, pero llegar al desenlace resulta un poco tedioso; por un lado siento que es el mejor juego a nivel gráfico de la empresa y por el otro siento que su estructura y ejecución narrativa no estuvo, en mi opinión, a la altura de la aventura. Sin dudas este es el primer juego de Wadjet que siento que se aproxima más a una novela gráfica, con leves y simples interacciones que a una auténtica aventura gráfica. No creo que lo recomiende a amigos o conocidos, pero tampoco es producto que merezca un pulgar abajo, ni siquiera para acercar su proporción (%) a un nivel que puedo considerar más razonable.

WadjetEye Games make quality adventures, and Old Skies is no exception. I am a sucker for time travel stories, and this one delivers. Each chapter is more-or-less self contained but there's an overarching narrative between each one, and I enjoyed piecing everything together right to the end. And it's most definitely worth staying until said ending, because the last chapter as a whole is a real roller coaster ride. I highly recommend this to any fan of point-and-click adventure games.

This is very much a story that keeps getting better as it moves on, concluding on a stellar high.
It took me a while to warm to Fia, but as soon as you’ve connected with her emotional journey you don’t want to let go.
Time travel doesn’t only make for interesting puzzles, using information from the past to influence future events, but it also allows the developer to take players on a historic tour of his beloved NYC.
The highlight of this is a story set on the eve of 9/11 and the elegance with how that’s handled shows a storyteller at the top of his game.

For example, The fifth chapter touches on the untouchable nature of police corruption in post-9/11 NYPD. And the second chapter explores the human cost of the gridiron design of the city, specifically how it negatively affected vulnerable families.
The game’s time-jumping puzzle-narrative threads the needles of all six chapter’s time periods brilliantly.

A visual novel disguised as a point & click adventure.
This game has a very personal story, and manages to give its characters distinctive, memorable personalities. At the same time, the game is structured in multiple episodes, and while the connecting story is thoughtful and well-conceived, the same can't always be said of the storylines of each individual episode. The smaller plotlines were often convoluted or just lacked stakes, and the game felt like it overstayed its welcome because of it. On the gameplay side, using repetition as a gameplay gimmick, while fitting thematically, often makes it tedious to play. Worth trying to see if you can put up with some of the less enjoyable parts.

An amazing game that I played every day after work until complete, could not put it down! The graphics and artwork are eye catching, the voice acting is top notch, and the humor is as witty as the drama is captivating. Finished in a little over 11 hours, this game has amazing replay-ability as choices (while they do not affect the ending) can lead to funny, upsetting, or baffling results. I have never been let down by Wadjet Eye, and their streak continues even now as Old Skies takes its place in my top ten favorites!

To opowieść o człowieku pracując w firmie umożliwiającej podróż w czasie dla ludzi, którzy chcą wrócić albo zobaczyć coś na własne oczy. Jesteśmy ich przewodnikiem i ochroniarzem - pilnujemy, żeby misja się udała.
A tak naprawdę to jest opowieść o tym, jak wielkie mamy szczęście, że żyjemy i możemy przeżyć własne życie. O tym, że cały czas tworzymy jakąś przyszłość. I o tym, co naprawdę jest w życiu ważne, gdy cała reszta to szczegóły.

A good adventure game although I didn't always love the looping puzzles, they got a bit tedious at times. And at points it did drag a bit. But I loved how the story ties together throughout the game and I truly enjoyed the ending; not something a lot of games succeed at. Highly recommended.
I came for the puzzles, but it was the story that hooked me. Not just hooked me, in fact, but damn near broke my heart.
It's rare to find media that has something new and interesting to say about time travel, but Old Skies moves from a fascination premise, to loveable characters, to a deep examination of imperminance and human meaning in a changing world. It has my highest recommendation.
I'm a big fan of Dave Gilbert and the point-and-click adventures that his company produces. Old Skies is a very solid game, although I wouldn't put it at the same level as some of Wadjet Eye's earlier releases, such as Hob's Barrow, Reavowed, and the Blackwell series.
For me, I think the major flaw is that this game consists of six chapters that each contain a separate story. The first few stories are a bit slow, and the protagonist has no personal stake in the respective plotlines -- she's really a disinterested agent who is doing a job for others. The character's perspective eventually changes, but you don't see this until the game's final two chapters. So I felt a real lack of narrative drive and tension until the final 2-3 hours of play. Also, there's so many different supporting characters that most of them lack depth. This includes some key characters the protagonist is supposed to care deeply about (I can't say more without giving away key plot details).
I also felt that the puzzles were a bit lacking. A lot of them involved saying something specific to the right character at the right time, which meant a lot of running back and forth between locations. Other puzzles seemed to have random solutions, such as one where the protagonist had to dodge a boxer's fist in a certain order. I thought the final puzzle, however, was quite clever, and a nice way to end the game.
That being said, I thought this game was well written. Dave Gilbert is a talented writer and his stories always pack an emotional punch (the game's powerful ending is a good example of this). Old Skies is definitely worth playing, but it's not the instant classic I was hoping it would be. Rating: 7.5/10.
Wadjet don't let a turkey outta the oven early - working on the recipe for years - they let it cook until it's done right. But dare I say that adventure games are a broken genre. You can git gud in a shooter, but here what the Lord hath given, it ain't gonna get better. When my turn came, they took out a spoon, not a ladle, so the integrated hint system comes in real handy. For once they done this system in such a way as to not make you feel bad for relying on it.
So yeah, it's a really cozy and approachable story game. Concerning arts, I keep getting triggered by the beady eyes, but at least the walking animations are some of the best there are.
Pretty good, very fun and (if you keep your eyes and ears open and don't skip through conversations) not too difficult to solve. The rewind- / time-travel mechanics are well integrated and executed. Took me about 15 hours to complete without looking up anything, and those were 15 hours well spent with quiet a few 'aha-moments' in terms of puzzle-solving. 8/10.

The Story shines in this beautiful and alluring point and click adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed just about every moment, only getting stuck once. Puzzles are probably on the easier side, or maybe less obtuse which I enjoyed. The length is perfect and my only minor complaint is the music got a tad repetitive during some scenes. Overall an amazing adventure that left me with a tear in my eye as the credits rolled. I cared a lot about these characters, more than any point and click adventure before it.
I found this game tedious fast. I was expecting old style point and click, puzzles and interactivity.
It was not that, it was dialog based back and forward, going around in loops to the same places. It was full of red herrings that frustrated me and the ability to move forward was locked behind dialog sequences or weak interactions that made no sense.
There was a lot of repetition and the overarching story was honesty boring. I spent a lot of time just clicking to get past the forced conversations like the bar scenes or the art gallery.
I really wanted to like it more.
This was so great! Okay, so at the start I was kind of just sleepwalking through it, and it falls into some of the classic point-and-click trappings (illogical item-based puzzles, sitting though animations, lots of backtracking). But the writing and story became good enough starting in chapter 2 or 3 to overcome all of that. Come for the classic point-and-click gameplay, stay for the time traveling lesbian romance.
I saw some dude post a long rant in a facebook group about this game and all its wokeness, and knew I had to try it for myself. I'm very thankful for his appalling review, 'cause I loved the game, the queer themes, the diversity and the story. I was invested, loved the puzzles, who were linear enough not to become annoying, but challenging enough to enjoy. Great voice acting, excellent music and beautiful art. Will recommend this to anyone that I know, who likes point and click games that freak out the MAGA. Well done!
Enjoyable, twisty point and click adventure, and good mix of old school ethos and modern storytelling with a compelling heroine and a fun setting that plays with the pros, cons and questionable ethics of time travel.
This is the best adventure game I have ever played. I've never enjoyed a game more, including the games I have nostalgic memories of from 20+ years ago. This is something else. If you've ever played and enjoyed a point+click adventure game, you must play this. If you haven't, give it a try. WOW! WOW!
Great game, amazing story
This may be a bold prediction to make in January (and technically, this is a 2025 game), but there is a very real chance that Old Skies could end 2026 as my Game of the Year.
Why? Where to start... An engaging, cleverly constructed narrative, pleasingly old school look, top-notch voice acting, a superbly intuitive user interface and a genuinely emotional plot that builds slowly with each chapter. The time travel narrative (including multiple versions of the same location) can be a little tricky to get your head round occasionally (particularly in the game's second chapter where it is especially important), but the game helps you out without spoon feeding you too much.
Sure, the puzzles aren't that challenging and anyone who has played the likes of Monkey Island or Broken Sword will breeze through it with relative ease, but that's not the point. The important thing is that you'll have a blast whilst doing it. Old Skies removes many of the frustrations of the old point and click adventures without losing any of the charm. Even if the game is fairly straightforward, you still feel a sense of achievement when you solve a puzzle or complete a chapter.
An absolute must-buy for anyone who is a fan of old style adventures or who just loves a brilliantly constructed narrative adventure.
I share the sentiment of many other reviewers. I am dissapointed with the game but not because it's bad. But because it's Wadjet Eye games! I expected it to be WOW OMFG!!!! And it eaven is good sometimes, at points. But most of the time it is just talking to a guy to learn something to talk to another guy. Suprisingly few adventure-like puzzles. I was hoping for something more like Blackwell or Technobabylon. Anyway the game is getting better at the and is still a must have. And i'm waiting for the next one.

This game was hanging around in my head long after I finished playing. The story was amazing and I really really loved the cast of characters. The puzzles were logical, the visuals were absolutely stunning and the voice acting was S-tier. 2025 was a great year for adventure games and this one is definitely at or around the top of the list!
The dev is going from strength to strength on this - Unavowed to Old Skies, incredible. This is the standard for modern adventure games. 9/10 easily. Voice acting, background art, puzzle logic, all 10/10.
I only have two nitpicks - the closeup shots and animation are really hideous, which is jarring given that the game is otherwise rendered so lovely. The closeup shots were used to great effect in The Excavation of Hob's Barrow to make an unsettling aura, but here they're just straight up ugly.
My other nitpick is that I wish we knew more about the world and the internal logic. What is the company doing all this for? Money? That can all be wiped out with a ripple. The rankings aren't really explained as to *why* they're such. What kind of status quo are they trying to maintain?
I have to stress that these are minor problems in a game that is otherwise flawless. I genuinely think it deserves the BAFTA ad GLAAD award it's been nominated for. If you have any itnerest in adventure games at all, it's a must play.

One of the best P&C Adventures I've played in recent memory if not the best! The writing, humor, direction, art, everything worked together perfectly! I loved this experience so much.
Old skies weaves time travel successfully, exploring all the usual tropes but in a story that will keep you engaged and emotionally invested. It's presented in episodic manner, but there is also an overall higher-order story that is sneaking by in each episode. The puzzles are not too difficult but not push-overs either. I never really felt stuck, although some mechanics require thinking outside of the (time) box.
The humor is a breath of fresh air and I don't remember the last time an adventure had me laughing so hard. It's genuinely great! The twists and turns are somewhat predictable but not entirely so either. They keep you interested.
I think anyone who likes P&C adventure games should try this!

Wadjet Eye Games point & click adventure games are always an insta-buy from me, I've played everyone of their games, and they have yet to disappoint me. Old Skies is no exception. It's fully voiced, and the voice acting is superb down to the last role, as always.
You are Fia Quinn, a time travel agent, who travels into the past for well-paying customers. Some want to fill a gap in their knowledge, some hope to change a detail or perceived mistake in the past that has affected their whole life. Despite strict rules of the ChronoZen organization that govern time travel, these interactions with the past have sometimes unforeseen consequences, and not everyone is happy about what the past reveals.
The story provides a unique take on time travel and its effects, the "ripples" that changes in the past cause in the present in subtle and not so subtle ways. The first "episode" or time travel is very straightforward, and serves as an introduction to the world, the rules and principles of time travel, and the main characters. From there on the cases become increasingly complex, and not as easy to solve.
Old Skies takes itself and its protagonists seriously, and us as the players as well. What effect would it have on you if your present could change at a moment's notice? How would you cope with unintended consequences of your actions in the past? As Fia, we are confronted with these questions, and they form the overaching theme of Old Skies.
There is a developer commentary that you can activate in the options, and a whole bunch of achievements, if you are looking for reasons to replay the game.
My main criticism of Old Skies is that for a pont & click adventure game, there was not enough pointing & clicking. Mainly, you have to figure out what to say and do in which sequence, with the option to rewind time if you fail. There aren't many things you can interact with in the different scenes. Only in the last episode does the game utilize the whole potential of time travel for a puzzle, in my opinion the best one of the game. More of that would have been great.
Despite that minor flaw I did enjoy playing Old Skies a lot, and fully recommend it.
I like the game but it lacks control over the Narrative,the lack of choices makes the game unreplayable.
I love this game such a great bunch of stories. Great adventure. I like the graphics well done backgrounds and very good voice acting.
Old Skies is a very charming game. The animation style is reminiscent of the old cartoons I used to watch as a kid, and the speech bubbles that make it look like a comic book are a nice touch. But it really is the story that sucked me in and made me enjoy it so much.
Fia Quinn is a time traveler by trade. Working for ChronoZen taking clients on sight-seeing tours in time, and sometimes helping them find answers in their pasts. It is best if I don't reveal more about the story here, but suffice it to say it's not all routine as it would seem.
The time travel angle is handled quite well in my opinion. Rather than it just being a gimmick about which level you are playing at the moment, it adds to the puzzles and gameplay. You will visit a few interesting times, and you will also see Fia and her friends deal with changes in time in a way rarely explored in time travel stories.
As far as gameplay, it is a point-and-click adventure. It seems an oversimplification to state that, but it sometimes is exactly the type of game I need after playing other frantic and fast-paced games. You will be treated with a good story, if you can be patient with it.

I normally have a "My nitpicks" section in my reviews, but I really cannot come up with anything. There really aren't any nits to pick. You might already know if you want to pick up a point-and-click adventure game. And if not, then this is a very good one to try and see if you'd like the genre.
Old Skies was incredibly enjoyable and I look forward to any new game Wadjet Eye Games makes.

I enjoyed the game alot and will absolutely recommend it, but would probably have liked more puzzle solving, not necessarily with items, but the whole search data feature and putting stuff together yourself, I don't think that was utilized enough although it was a great mechanic! It also would be nice if you could look stuff up that wasn't necesarily relevant for the further progress. There was some characters and companies in the game I would like to have researched, but I wasn't able to.

Another great Wadjet Eye adventure. I loved the writing, finding it by turns funny, clever and touching without being heavy handed. Each setting is interesting and the time travel aspect adds a creative twist to the puzzles, although I found a few of these better on paper than in execution. It's all within the acceptable limits of point & click adventure nonsense though.
There's not much more to say because I don't want to spoil anything - I was SO happy to go in blind to even the smallest details. This is a wonderful, thoughtful game and after 16 or so hours I was sad to leave it. Highly recommended.
Design is impeccable, writing is superb, voice acting is top notch and the puzzles are fun. No notes, play it if you love adventure games!

Old Skies ist mal wieder ein Meisterwerk aus dem Hause Wadjet Eye Games! Man merkt die stetige technische Verbesserung der Technik von Spiel zu Spiel, mit der gewohnt hohen narrativen und spielmechanischen Qualität. Mir persönlich gefällt ein Pixel-Look besser, da dies aber Geschmackssache ist, ziehe ich hierfür keine Punkte ab.

Not a big fan of the graphics. The backgrounds are OK, but the animations look weird and the closeups of the characters don't really map with their normal look
Puzzles are fairly easy, the game is far to eager to rub your face in the solutions. There were times when this felt more like a visual novel than an adventure game.
I haven't finished this yet but it is classic point and click. Puzzles mostly make sense and are not too hard. Although it isn't called "hints," the player can ask "Nozz" for a different perspective. This game has a time travel element so there's a fair bit of back and forth.

Anything by Wadjet Eye is an automatic day one purchase for me and this one is no different.
A different visual style than their normal fare, it gives it a unique look. Lots of interesting characters and some choices to change up the dialogs.
I'm also a sucker for time travel sci-fi. Lots of paradoxes and fun plot points that revolve around it.
Light on puzzles and more about the characters and their stories.
I've always had a strong dislike for time travel stories. They are often less clever than they think, using vague rules and a handful of overdone tropes to tell a convoluted mess of a story. Old Skies has changed my mind. It weaves together a wonderful narrative about meaning, loss, and memory, using its time travel system to incredible thematic effect. I can't recommend it enough.
Best game I've played in a while. I've played Unavowed and all the Blackwell games. I love how this one was also in the same universe. Worst thing about it was that it ended.
Old Skies is a game of quiet contrasts. It's a great adventure game with really solid character work. I'd argue that the main protagonist, Fia - her story and the gentle character development she undergoes throughout the game - is exemplary for the genre. As always with Wadjet Eye's output, the fantastical setting is merely an excuse for a very human study of the complicated mess that constitutes our lives.
The gameplay is admittedly pretty sparse. Most scenes are barely interactive, most puzzles are dialog-based, and the game overall is surprisingly linear. I think it's fair to say this feels more like a visual novel you can walk about rather than a traditional point-and-click adventure. Arguably, though, this lack of agency works in favor of the story being told. Not that it was completely absent of interesting gameplay opportunities - I especially enjoyed the climactic sequence, something that feels like a continuation of gameplay tropes from the studio's previous game, now a modern adventure classic, Unavowed. Elsewhen, I found myself laughing at the playful ways the game dealt with the trial-and-error nature of its time-based mechanics.
On closer inspection, some of the character art and world building seemed somewhat uneven. Some of the writing and performances felt artificial or heavy-handed. Still, I couldn't put the game down. The tender story resonated with me profoundly, and I'm so glad that Mr. Gilbert decided to tell it the way he did. Despite being so quiet for most of the adventure - understated, even - it dared to hit with surprising moments of heft and consequence.
On my initial playthrough, I bounced off of the game due to the minor blemishes I described above, but I'm so glad I found the time to see it through. It uses historical and futuristic fiction to deal with uncertainties that feel so unmistakably present, so devastatingly human. A real gem, this one!
I always have sky high expectations for anything from Wadjet Eye Games and this more than surpassed them. If you love point and click games with real emotional heft, do not miss this one!
I have a weak spot for timetravel shenanigans, as well as for emotional gut punches. This game is full of both. The puzzles are clever, but also comfortable to solve... Comfortable for the player, that is. Poor Fia typically has to go through a couple of Emergency Rewinds so that you can gather the clues. Between that, we get excellently written characters and a lot of food for thought about personal legacy, fate, choice, and change. I found it hard to pause the game or close it, because the story had me hanging on the edge of my seat. And staring at the screen in helpless terror, at one point. I love when stories get me that invested in a character's life.
One of the best adventure stories of all time. Nothing more - nothing less. Deep respect to the authors!
Hoje terminei "Old Skies" (2025), da Wadjet Eye Games. Foi o que escolhi para iniciar o ano.
E que escolha acertada! O jogo é belíssimo, no melhor estilo point'n'click dos clássicos dos anos 90 - aliás, eu diria que já se tornou um clássico.
A história principal se passa no ano de 2062, quando uma agência de viagens no tempo oferece a seus clientes a possibilidade de voltarem ao passado - seja para mera observação, seja para mudarem algum fato. Mas é aí que imprevistos acontecem e cabe a Fia Quinn, a protagonista, resolver os problemas. Ela tem a ajuda de Frank "Nozzo" Nozzarelli, que está sempre na escuta e no suporte no tempo "real".
Decidi não usar walkthrough, então levei um pouco mais de tempo para resolver os puzzles - todos, porém, muito bem pensados, com dificuldades diferentes. Os diálogos são ótimos, tendo a devida dose de humor e drama, e os cenários são deslumbrantes: definitivamente ajudam na imersão.
É interessantíssimo o uso dos conceitos de viagem no tempo e realidades paralelas. O problema é que, nesse futuro mostrado pelo jogo, com as constantes alterações nas linhas temporais, tudo pode mudar num piscar de olhos: pessoas deixam de existir, fatos nunca ocorreram, obras de arte jamais foram criadas... E isso influencia o ambiente ao redor.
Como em vários jogos da empresa - a pentalogia Blackwell, por exemplo -, trata-se de mais uma declaração de amor a Nova York: não apenas esse futuro (2062) se passa nela, mas todas as épocas mostradas nos capítulos: os anos 2020, 1870, 1990, 2040, 1970... E há um tocante momento em que somos transportados ao dia anterior ao atentado às Torres Gêmeas. Mesmo quem não é estadunidense nem conhece pessoalmente Nova York (como este que vos escreve) sente-se emocionado com esse impactante momento da História mundial. Também há diversas referências históricas que nos ensinam sem "didatismo" forçado, como o Plano de 1811, que levou décadas até transformar de forma drástica a cidade, com o traçado das ruas como conhecemos hoje. Mal comparando, é o que aconteceu a Paris em meados do século XIX, por iniciativa do Barão Haussmann.
Há ainda um elemento comum a outros jogos da Wadjet Eye: a reflexão. Neste caso, sobre tempo, (im)permanência, escolhas. Será que não estamos de fato sujeitos a mudanças constantes nas nossas vidas, sem nos darmos conta? Talvez daí a sensação de déjà-vu que tantos de nós já tivemos alguma vez. Acrescente-se a isso a reflexão sobre a própria morte: o que vale a pena fazer (ou deixar de fazer) para contribuirmos para nosso legado na Terra? E os laços (família, amigos, amores) que fazemos? Será que ainda assim seremos lembrados pelas próximas gerações?
Que este jogo dure muitos anos e que em 2062 (estarei com 80 anos a essa altura!) continuem jogando esta verdadeira obra-prima. Se o futuro será mesmo conforme mostrado, será revelado pelo tempo - e pelas linhas temporais que escolhermos, consciente ou inconscientemente.

As a long time fan of Wadget Ey, this one is a bit of a let-down on all strong aspects the studio mastered over the games they offered on the last decades.
The gameplay has this bit of innovative taste, surprisingly good but inconsistent in the difficulty a s sometimes it is too simple.
The graphics are the biggest disappointement for me. Wasn't drawn to it from the Steam page, wanted to give it a try and loving the game for its story. This only affected my disliking even more...
The story is good but lacks a bit of polishing as several incoherences persist in the dialogues or the post-credit scene [spoiler] who takes a picture of an empty bench really ?! [/spoiler]. The scenario seems forced down to us by several unlogical actions from characters... It is also really disturbing to give the impression of branches in dialogues when the outcome is always the same. It is a shame for a studio who had so many masterpieces.
Anyway, for hardcore point'n'clik gamers who have no other game to explore.

Another excellent delivery from Wadjet Eye Games with an interesting take on the old time travel paradox business. The art style threw me for a second but I got used to it very quickly. Beautifully voiced and with an amazing (and heartbreaking) story. This game could have easily veered into existential horror territory but committed to melancholy instead and I respect that very much. This was a great experience.
Love this game. It IS or WAS or WILL BE (time-confusion got to me) an emotional rollercoaster ride. The kind where you leave all thrilled and excited, yet a bit melancholic because it ended.
This game's pacing just nailed it for me. I haven't encountered this well-designed storytelling in quite a while.
And since it is hard to talk about this game in a spoiler-free way, let me just point out one thing that made this game special in my perspective: It does not shy away from showing the dark sides and intrusive thoughts of the characters. This makes them feel so alive. And after playing this game, I can only imagine that I will miss this aspect in other games I play.
Thanks Dave and everyone involved for this piece of art and the mixed emotions it brought up in the ~11 hours it took me to play through it.

Some very solid time travel shenanigans going on in this one.
Really fun point and click game about time travel. Thought provoking game that made me keep thinking about the implications after the game was over. Each chapter introduces more interesting implications about time travel which kept things fresh. Used a controller, the controls are pretty decent. The puzzles aren't too much about finding obtuse items but often about finding information from talking to people. I really recommend it for the story, I was hooked and couldn't wait to continue playing after each sitting.
TLDR: Strongly recommend for any fan of point-and-click adventures, despite a few quirks.
It has fun premise and good writing, execution, art, voice acting, built-in (optional) hints, (passable) gamepad support, smooth animation, and is an impressive use of Adventure Game Studio. I especially like how this game--and other modern adventures--carefully block off some options and locations to avoid the problem of overwhelming possibilities. (I.e. brute forcing by trying everything is almost always an option, which is nice for those of us without a lot of free time.) Lack of profile art was nicely offset by the higher resolution in-game faces which showed their reactions and had decent lip-sync.
Actually this game was so good that the flaws I did see were hard for me to overlook:
* art felt flat because characters rarely (never?) moved deeper into the background
* - gave the impression characters were sliding cut outs
* - perhaps because the outlined-art-style would not scale down well in AGS?
* character art sometimes felt inconsistent, especially when walking
* - for ex., non-outline details appear to be just shifted around between frames making an awkward kind of giggling motion
* - sub-pixel rendering, using snapshots of 3D models, and/or fewer frames of animation may have helped
* mitten hands were off putting (IMO), especially since it was inconsistent when hands were closer/larger, like in the falling animation
* there was a timed puzzle with a ... counter-intuitive solution (hint: do *not* load earlier save)
* double click/press worked on all exits but only certain hot spots
* personally I miss their lower resolution art, though for their first high res. effort, they made good use of the extra pixels
