Personally for me I enjoy the game so far, the graphics are nice (could probably run this game on a pc from the early 80's ngl), the camera movement system is easy to get a grasp on and its an overall good introductory game to this genre of rts/colony sim.
The only problems I can say I really had with it is the lack of a tutorial (the guide barely helps but idk if that's just a bug on my end) and the layering system for the depth of blocks your looking at could use a little indicator past just the sliding bar giving you a ball park idea of what layer you may be looking at.

I loathe tutorials, but never before has a game so desperately needed one. I've put thousands of hours into both Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress combined, but this is incomprehensible,
ITS OK.
First run: had bad housing and people stopped having children. Led to very low birth rates. Everyone died of old age.
Second run: figured out optimal housing, doubled down on many people with good defenses, but not enough food. Led to a malthusian catastrophe. So many people that food ran out in autumn. Everyone died of starvation.

Why does my settler keep killing my chicken as i only got 2 and putted butchering on off.
This game keeps giving me frustrations that shouldnt be needed to be frustrated about if all works like it should.
But the commands not to kill my animals they keep lacking and still doing it.
i keep going back to my save but it keeps happening!
Every time i play i have something that doesnt work proper im getting sick of it now.

I found out that a invisible dude is killing my stuff in my camp and cant do ♥♥♥♥ about it(made traps even). great game ffs.

I very much enjoy this game. The level of complexity feels manageable for someone like myself who is a fairly casual gamer. The core mechanics of this game can be learned in an afternoon, but there are plenty of different ways to play the game once the mechanics are understood.
My recommendation to the game developer would be to allow some degree of customization for how difficult and frequent the raids are. I feel there should be some way to control how many events occur, and how hostile or friendly the world and environment are towards the player.
It is a bit difficult to learn, need better tutorial or something. Also, some graphics need more work. Some things are hard to see.
Similar to many games in this genre the UI can at first be quite opaque, but beyond the initial difficulty is a wonderful colony simulator with a great variety to choose from. I still haven’t touched 1/10th of what the game has to offer but for any who enjoy pixel graphics and colony sims this is a good buy
As far as colony sims go, this one has been my most favorite! Comparing it to games such as Rimworld would be unfair considering that they occupy different subsections of the genre. Rimworld is a narrative generator while OddRealm is a straight-up colony sim, and one with a fantasy atmosphere at that!
It's simple. It's fun. It's cheap.

Truly a treasure. I do not normally write reviews unless the game is amazing ... or terrible.
The steam review system does a poor job of allowing us to accurately gage the quality of a game.
Take the mixed reviews. They are all a result of the sole developer not having the tutorial revamped at 1.0
There is a heck of a learning curve like other games it resembles. Do not come into the game expecting Dwarf Fortress, instead enter with an open mind seeking something different but deep.
You can easily get a few hundred hours out of this over the life of ownership.
If you like that added depth and complexity, you will love the management approach of oddrealm.
I can't get the hate. The few negative reviews on top actually motivated me to give the game another shot. Bought it years ago and wasn't really happy with it back then cause of bugs eg. the suicidal behavior of my odds, UI and much more. But now as they are finally able to drink from open water sources, can defend themselfes accordingly etc. it's more than enjoyable! Figuring out the "convoluted systems" is actually the fun part for me. Same for the graphics - the minimalistic style might not be everybodys cup of tea - but I don't mind to learn what is what at first.
The only thing I really struggled with is the rooms and room management window. I had a hard time to get that I can't edit room boundaries from "room management". Sometimes it worked but sometimes not.. Until I realised the "rooms" window was still open in the background when it did. Maybe wouldn't happen if there was a cog icon in the rooms list which opens the management window and closes the other.. Or if they generally auto-close each other.. Well just be aware UI stuff can overlap and you should be fine.

ＵＩの細かさと若干の視認性の悪さが気になりました、小さなどっと絵でキャラが動いてるのを眺めるのはかわいらしいし、観ていて面白いのですが、かなり細かくて目が疲れるかもしれないです。日本語対応してくれないかなぁ・・・
Wonderfull Colony Sim :)
Fun and engaging colony sim! Seen this one develop a lot as I've put in play time and think it has tons of potential to really set it apart.
Ways it already does this:
- Art style is awesome. The minimalist super-low res is the perfect blend of leaving something to the imagination but still clearly conveying the information. Plus, it just looks gorgeous
- Room management is very neat and customizable.
- Skill progression tree is nice and steady, but leaves me a little hungry for late game content
- Music is great, would love to hear more numbers
- World feels alive and full of interesting entities and beings
- It's also really satisfying to just watch the Odds work and do their thing
- I enjoy the micromanagement and the minutiae of setting up stockpiles, room types, uniforms, and job permissions
I haven't even played any other races other than humans! I've put 92 hours in just playing human pioneers! This game has so much more to offer and I have barely scratched the surface!
Also the development community is super positive, engaging, and receptive to suggestions and feedback. Highly recommend supporting this title!

Great game, great art, great gameplay, and most importantly great dev.
This game gives you no agency whatsoever. You can't just click a settler and have him pick up the fishing pole, oh no. First you have to research fishing, then you spend thirty minutes on reddit trying to figure out how to pick up the fishing pole in order to fish. The best part? Still can't figure out how to have a settler with fishing skill pick up the fishing rod and go fishing. This game is pretty much unplayable as a video game. You can merely do an uncomfortable amount of research on how it works, tweek your settings and then watch as the game plays itself poorly. Maybe it's me, but actually being able to control some aspect of gameplay should be a design element of EVERY game. This one is nice looking, but it's overly complex, lazily made, unrewarding and confusing. Maybe learn to code ANY basic game mechanic before releasing on steam. this game made me upset at how much time I had to waste with basically no fun at all for my troubles. The complexity of a Tabletop RPG with none of the fun or functionality of one. Avoid this Title unless you like reading poorly written instructions in very small text for long periods of time.

great game! took me about 15 hrs to understand it (its ok, it wont take you that long), but once everything clicked, im off. balls-deep in my first semi-functional settlement!!
After getting bored of Dwarf Fortress, and RimWorld, I decided this might be a fun stop-gap while building up the encouragement to jump back into either. Unfortunately after mastering bronze armor/weapon production this game is nothing but a snooze fest. The raids are easy to beat and the most infuriating aspect is seeing a skilled worker die and having to wait hours until someone else is semi-competent to be able to accomplish something in the first try.
Things I wish it had:
Some way to interact with the world map or do something once you've built a self-sufficient colony. send raiders, build ships to cross oceans, start new settlments, etc.
Focus on difficulty to actually encourage arcane/iron armor exploitation, less pointless micro-management more fun, whether it's a 4X approach, dungeon crawler, or tower defense, find something that is an expansive and far-reaching goal for people to want to achieve. Take advantage of the current art style and incorporate the difficulty from Hero's Hour or Rise to Ruins... do something. In it's current state it's nothing more than dwarf fortress knock-off with an identity crisis.
Things that are bad:
It took me about 8 hours to figure out that clicking on the object name in the room management takes you to the auto-complete rules. While the system works almost exactly like Dwarf Fortress, its somewhat pointless to micro-manage. The game seems to be focusing on combat/arcane/exploration, why have to micro-manage farming, cooking, armor production when the end result is no different? Just let us plop down a room and let it automatically make anything we need if the resources exist... set a global stockpile limit and priority and just let them figure it out.
Animal husbandry is useless. Wool sucks more than plant fibers anyways, just kill everything and move on. Fishing and farming is more than adequate to sustain at least 30 people throughout the year.
Things that are boring:
World exploration is abysmally slow and serves zero challenge. It took 90% of my playthrough to tunnel down to the bottom of the world while watching builders walk up and down the 100 or so ladders for a single piece of wood to build the next ladders. There is nothing stopping you from just noob tubing straight to the core and letting your dudes scale the walls back up. At least I tried to build ladders.... Still, once the treasures beneath are un-earthed, there is literally nothing left to do.
Things that I liked:
You have complete freedom to terraform to your heart's content, (Dwarf Fortress is utterly infuriating in this regard)
I remember liking this game years ago, and loved the novelty of building an underground ant-colony. Sad to say that I can't find it in me to feel that same energy in these more recent updates.
The systems at play just feel much more convoluted than they used to be. Even just the very basics of manually selecting multiple units has become an absolute battle in that of itself to figure out (After 30 minutes of damn near spontaneously combusting like a Looney Tunes character, I finally cracked the code), and that's not to mention the few game breaking bugs I've stumbled upon. Like for some reason I couldn't make ink? Even after my summons spent my entire stockpile of coal crafting them in the workshop, I was left with a whopping 0 output total, completely wasting all of my now spent resources. I was also bombarded with raids just about every single day, even with raids turned off in the settings.
It's a shame because I really enjoyed this game, and even outside of the current abhorrence, I still found myself incredibly engrossed in my little fortress, only for the game to then comically beat me over the head with a frying pan.
Also apparently/supposedly some of the issues I've been having have been patched out in the current beta, which leaves me somewhat hopeful for this game's future. Until then, I just can't recommend it in it's current state.
Too complicated and too much guess work and not well documented. It's is not clear what affects what and how. My citizen are dying from dehydration but I have 4 wells and 4 barrels full of water and they wont drink. Why? I don't have a clue and it's frustrating.

I cant recommend a game where the settings don't all work.
It's a strange one as on the surface it looks like there could be some interesting systems, however there doesn't really seem to be much of a game here and a lot of the details are irrelevant/cosmetic - what do all these different types of plant do? Basically nothing - they are all mechanically the same... different types of trees? Again the same (with a small number of exceptions). Once you get through the battle of the UI you realise the complexity is mostly just in being hard to use rather than in the systems themselves
Maybe this is a colony sim for people who like decorating in games as opposed to mechanics, but I definitely prefer mechanics - a lot of stuff feels half finished, so rather than there being a few systems that work well and have been thought out there's just a lot of different things.
It feels like it wants to me a more chilled out game but feels like the raids have just been added to make something happen but they aren't interesting like in Rimworld and they happen very regularly but are mostly innocuous, until one of your 5 people dies.
Also a lot of the UI seems to be following some of the poorly thought out stuff from dwarf fortress, some of it works quite well but other stuff is just painful - like setting skills is done by profession rather than just showing you a matrix with everyone's name and skills. You have 5 people all with different professions so to use the matrix you have to cross reference it by looking through your dudes and noting their professions
For me if you want to have a warlike colony sim then go for Rimworld and if you want something more chilled then go for Clanfolk.
It's a shame because the game looks really lovely and clearly quite a lot of time and effort has gone into it. Maybe it will improve in time?
I like pixel art and graphics but this is ridiculous...I really did give the game a try but the scale of the visuals is so small its frustratingly difficult to see what is what. The UI is something from the 90's and is unplayable. There is no tutorial on how to play the game, just how to navigate different windows.

First of all, the developer is awesome and made this complicated game single-handedly. For that alone, I’m glad to have tried it.
I really wanted to like this game but the way the menus work is just tedious and unintuitive. Fishing makes me sad, I settled next to the ocean expecting to be able to survive on fish but starved. It feels like this would be a much better game if it simplified the menus and made them bigger. They are just too small and if you try to make them bigger, they fall off the screen.
Would have been better if the developer strayed further away from the rimworld inspiration.

Definitely worth a try if you're into colony/base building games. Much easier to step in compared to Dwarf Fortress but still not too shallow to get bored after a couple hours. Besides the game keeps getting updates constantly so the dev deserves the support
I have had this game for years now, and over time it has seen several updates, and each time it does it seems to massively change the way the game works enough for it to be unrecognizable to me as far as understanding how to play it. As fun as it can be, or at least had been for me in previous updates, I am tired of having to relearn how to play it at a basic level.
Can't even seem to be able to turn off the raids that happen every other day; I turned it off in settings but am still getting them.
I am at 100 hrs in the game and at this point, if anyone were to ask for pointers on how to play this game, I wouldn't have anything to tell them. Most of my hours were put on a few patches ago, these days I can't play it for more than an hour without getting frustrated or bored at something either just not working properly or being utterly confusing.
都忘了买了多久了，当初买完发现没中文玩了一会就删掉了，我记得那个时候好像只开放了三个种族，大概可以看成是简化版的矮人要塞，或者是有Z轴并且增减了一部分机制的rimworld，美术风格上又很像worldbox，虽然没玩多久，不过就我当初浅尝辄止的体验来看，可玩性还是挺丰富的，关键是价格比要塞和环都便宜，英语好的可以买下来试试，可惜到现在正式版出了还是没中文，遗憾

This is a cute colony simulator. I've found it relatively user-friendly; certainly it's easy to just jump in and start exploring the mechanics. The game is a little rough around the edges, but it all fits together and functions fine. I haven't explored all the different gameplay mechanics yet. It's got a surprising amount of depth, but it's still simple enough that I can understand it as someone who can't handle Dwarf Fortress. And I like that it isn't so dark and gruesome as Rimworld.
Does a lot of things right, but a few things wrong. Those few things unfortunately ruin the game experience.
The game is complex and the very lo-fi graphics do not support that complexity. Hard to read text, impossible to recognize icons, squished UI elements - all would have been improved by just having a bit more pixels. Even ASCII Dwarf Fortress has more pixels per tile, and is vastly more readable as a result.
UX is great when you're just starting out. But as you begin to build out your colony in earnest, you realize it's very insufficient. For example you have to build the same beds, doors, house designations etc over and over when setting up bedrooms. Where's the copy/blueprint feature?
Everything is hidden under collapsing menus. There are a LOT of buildings. You'll wear out your scroll wheel looking for them.
On the plus side, there's comfy music, interesting races/lore, and the colonist AI seemed to work pretty well in my brief experience (although in the forums I saw some AI complaints). But in the end it's hard to enjoy those things because the game rapidly becomes exhausting to play after the first hour.
Not a full release, I cannot launch anymore since one of the more recent updates.
This is a really good colony sim game. You can feel the DF feel in it but with it own twist
This is a pleasant relaxing game, giving you all the freedom you need to build the settlement of your dreams, and enough different activities to give you many hours of entertainment. I have played probably around a hundred hours from the Itch.io version before purchasing the Steam version too, and yet I would still consider myself a novice in Odd Realm.
The aesthetically pleasing pixel-art graphics are clear and easy to understand. Unlike other games of this genre, all animations blend perfectly as characters walk smoothly between tiles.
If you are looking for a user-friendly settlement building simulator, this might be the best you can find. It comes with sensible defaults to get you started at your own pace, but still allows you to customize all the details if so you desire. A brief tutorial will help you feel welcome from the very beginning.
In other words: look no further, this is the game you were searching for!
Iconic little DF-like game that shines in so many ways - if you love DF, Rise to Ruins or Rimworld - this is one for you!
A work of love that has been continuously worked on for quite some time. A bit of a more accessible dwarf fortress, or rimworldy game.

This game purports itself as a god game or a colony management sim, it is not. It is really a supply chain game. There is little in the way of suggestions that I can offer, but what I would like to see as an early adopter is a production screen that displays all current product requests with their statuses; Green when copacetic, orange when noncritical issues such as inept worker, low/inconsistent resource availability, paused/capped production; Red when production is halted due to no assigned worker, no resource availability, no workspace prepared. Bonus if clicking on the status brings up the correct menu to alleviate. Filtering for materials vs final products would also be a nice QOL.
This game is very frustrating. No real tutorial at all. I got a few things going. A well and a wood-works and basic housing. Farming I had no clue. I watched as my eight humans died from starvation.
There is also one save slot per world. This really made it hard to try to go back to the begining to try to do things differently.
I can't recommend this game. There are far better games in this genre.

This game was NOT ready for a full release. Many mechanics that do not work (entire race that does not even work), entire race not in the game, items with no use (that one fish scale you can get). I simply can not recommend this as it is and it breaks my heart that the developer rushed an unfinished full release since I have owned this game for so long

For every single thing I want to happen, I have to manage and micronamanage so many other things.
And all these things are hidden in different places, so I have to click hundreds of times just to make my pixels to cook themselves a meal.
And then another couple hundreds of clicks to do something else.
On top of that, it takes pixels to the extreme and not in a good way.
Everything is just too tiny.
Pixel art could be nice, but at this point ascii art would provide more detail.
Pixel art was a necessity when we had low resolution CRT screens.
Nowadays it is not, and this is a bad example of it.
The game feels overcomplicated for the sake of being overcomplicated, but without enough QoL.
So playing it feels like fighting with bad design decisions rather than anything else.
I haven't seen the latest update yet which is said to improve a lot of aspects.
I'll give it a try some time later, so stay tuned.
I want to like this game, I want it to feel good.
I hope it will and it seems it is not abandoned yet, so the hope is strong.

A fun little base builder with interesting play styles. There are still some things that need to be ironed out but, if you're familiar with base builders but aren't ready to swallow the Dwarf Fortress pill yet, it's a good stepping stone. It's also gorgeous and the audio is good too.
Game is still early access despite it saying it's released. Lots of bugs and mechanics that don't work still
The UI is incomprehensible and the visual elements while at first seeming stylish make it almost impossible to visually tell what most things are, so you have to use the UI to inspect them and the UI is SO incomprehensible that it seriously gets in the way of ANY enjoyment. I mean I really want to like the game but man theres WAY to much wrasslin with a non-intuative and confusing interface.
i really want to play this game but i cant because the icons are too small i play on a large widescreen tv even on ui scale 4 its way too small as are all the icons.
Strange controls that can't be adjusted to suit preference, no tutorial. Not much of a tech tree. I'm stuck without any bricks because I can't figure out how to give them access to water. My people will drink water from rivers and wells, but putting a well, a bucket, a water trough, literally everything that might in any way be related to providing water, none of it gives them access to water.
There is a LOT of room for improvements in this game. Even getting it on sale I can't recommend

Ну и пока нет баланса, враги приходят значительно сильнее, а пополнения в деревню никак нет. Играть можно, но очень скучно. Для того чтобы играть было интересно, нужно править баланс, чтобы приходили враги одного уровня.

In today's world of the over saturated game market; you have to make something unique and standout and this is neither compared to the 2 titles mentioned above.
The first 4 hours of learning this game was excruciating, and I thought I was going to hate it. After learning the system, I absolutely love this game. The choices and opportunities are endless. I can't wait to see what comes next for this game. I beg the developer to keep working on this amazing game.

After playing for more time, i come to find many issues about the game that make it annoying, stressful, and hard.
Buggy as heck
this game needs alot of work still 3 years later, no guides and all the patch updates arent even true, same bugs and errors with more bs add cause preset values change with update. how about the developers release a game guide with no discrepancies between the operation systems. do the developers even play this game or just sit at home reading the games forums till they find something they agree with thats wrong rather than playing this ♥♥♥♥ game and working the bugs out the hard way by actually being apart of the game? half of the games content is unplayable unless you spend countless hours and failed worlds to barely understand what i going on with everything the has to offer game.
A fairly standard colony sim, though the different playable races make for good replayability due to their widely different play styles. Can be finicky at first, but most issues work themselves out when you get used to the game.
Odd Realm is not without its quirks, but it's a good game with a lot of potential. Recommended!

Great game with great music, however do note its pretty hard to learn how to play, its one of those games that has a pretty steep learning curve.
I really Enjoy games like this where I give guidance to the little people, but they generally do their own thing. Great colonization game with tones of complexity. It's a little hard to understand at first and I've restarted a ton, however it's satisfying to learn each iteration. Would highly recommend if you like to learn through trial and error like me :)
Wanted to like this. Bought it in early access a while ago. At the time, it was missing most of the content in the areas of the game I was interested in. I've given it several chances since, but...
Now, the content mostly feels rearranged rather than changed much.
Almost nothing is documented. Most buildings do not have descriptions. The tutorial does not explain basics like what to look for when picking a location or how to handle the mechanical differences for the species you pick.
The UI is needlessly esoteric, with collapsible trees instead of tabs and - again - nothing is explained. Mining is a convoluted chore, despite being a core part of the gameplay regardless of faction.
Worst of all, it was Early Access for long enough that reading forums does not help find answers to problems. The answers you find probably won't apply to the current release.
Today, I started up another run for the first time since 1.0 came out. All my units refused to mine or do anything until they died. On top of that, the game spawned them all with their jobs wiped clean, so I had o go in and manually set each unit up. The tutorial didn't explain that, either. All so they could refuse to work and die.
Honestly, this still feels heavily Early Access. It shouldn't have released in this state.
Has a lot of promise. I've been watching it for years and it's amazing what it's been able to evolve into.
It's a decently fleshed out DF clone with a more comfortable learning curve.

It's great.
Only 5 hrs in and can tell you this: It's like DF but different. Here are my top thoughts about the game.
1. Lack of documentation. DF wiki has 20 years of info, Odd Realm has next to nothing. So be ready for a lot of experimentation and frustration. Additionally, the UI changes render previous tutorials obsolete as it's changed so much.
2. You can move people by clicking on them and telling them to do something. Handy for moving kids away from battles.
3. Workshops and stockpiles are way more fun. I love that I can add wooden bins into my kitchen and designate what is stored in them. In DF you simply place a stockpile next to the workshop and choose the items that store (and if it uses bins then a dwarf will put the items in the bin) in Odd Realm YOU place the bin and simply turn on Stockpile function from the room and what is stored in there and who does it.
4. I like that you can assign tools to workers via uniforms. example: you can give your cook a wooden spoon to gain a bonus to their cooking skill.
5. The citizens can climb, so you don't need as many ladders and stairs they can climb onto houses, roofs, out of holes, etc.
I liked where this game was going but I'm afraid there are just too many fiddly bits that keep just pulling me out of it. The final straw for me was winter came and my people started dying from the cold but there was no effective way for me to keep them in a warm area. They just wondered off into the cold and froze to death with 0 sense of self preservation.
I can recommend, very relaxing

Odd Realm is a passion project by a very wonderful person.
It has come incredibly far from the game I helped test years ago and I'm beyond impressed.
Odd Realm wears its inspirations proudly and does them a lot of justice while maintaining its own aspects and flow. If you like anything in the fortress-like genre, please give this one a try! I genuinely adore the visual style going on here and one of the best parts of the game is making these intricate little settlements that are probably the most visually pleasing to me in the genre.

The game is really fun, But it has complex understanding of exporing more areas, And i don't understand how to expand from one map, Instead i try to survive in one map with 84 alive.
I wish there was more, But i see the dev is getting weak of working on the game, and i understand him. Hopefully the game will have good life support of any sort. Like the steamworkshop we already have, Doesn't seem like people wanting to make mods/addons for the game kinda sad to see this happen :(

Was fun enough for ~20h, seemed like a more accessible dwarf fortress. Then it decided to go dwarf fortress on me, and the citizens started to just randomly decide to die out of dehydration. Plenty of water available, they just decided not to drink. If I noticed in time, I could manually order them to move to a place near the water and they might drink. While dehydrated health plummets *very fast* so you have to notice it quickly and react immediately, and hope the AI wakes up and decides to drink. However there's only a small indicator on the screen when someone decides to do this. It's not fun, nor is it funny, so that's I guess it for this game for me.

I recently discovered [b]Odd Realm[/b], and after watching [b]BlindiRL[/b]’s playthrough, I immediately thought, "I have to buy this!". Developed by a solo creator, with only the soundtrack commissioned, [b]Odd Realm[/b] is an impressive and delightful gem in the colony sim genre.
From the moment you dive in, the game's charm becomes evident. The lovely pixel art style is both nostalgic and inviting, while the soundtrack perfectly complements the relaxing yet engaging gameplay. It brings to mind aspects of [b]Dwarf Fortress[/b], [b]RimWorld[/b], [b]Songs of Syx[/b], and [b]KeeperRL[/b], yet it maintains its own unique identity and soul.
Though it is a complex game, [b]Odd Realm[/b] is more accessible than [b]Dwarf Fortress[/b] and allows you to learn as you go, encouraging experimentation. After spending time familiarising myself with the menus navigation and gameplay nuances, everything becomes intuitive, and the joy of playing truly shines through. The user interface is well-designed, and tooltips are there to help you along the way, making the learning curve less daunting.
One of the standout features is the use of Z-levels, adding a deeper layer of strategy and immersion to colony management. It's a game with more depth than meets the eye, yet it's still a relaxing experience overall—perfect for those looking for something solid and fun. Odd Realm has the potential to be great after its major bugs are fixed -- I like how it approaches world generation compared to other colony sims! But the several big gameplay bugs, unclear menu/lack of instructions, and lack of overall gameplay goals makes it hard to recommend Odd Realm unless you're both familiar with similar titles (Dwarf Fortress, etc) and can tolerate bugs/unclear UI/less overall "game" to play. But if you're into similar colony sims and looking for something new, you'll probably enjoy this.

What most people are complaining about right now isn't wrong:
The game does its utmost to be difficult for the player to understand, to figure out what to even do to make anything work.
The tutorial starts out somewhat hopeful, but just suddenly stops after telling you what stockpiles are.
Or maybe it bugs out, hard to say.
In other words, the tutorial gets you maybe the first 5-10% in when it comes to understanding how to do anything.
Of course, it does NOT tell you HOW to actually define what to put in a stockpile.
Or how to set what a room should do.
You gotta figure it all out yourself through trial and error and a lot of clicking around.
But this isn't like Dwarf Fortress where you can draw upon decades of online guides. So you'll do most of that blindly.
And once you have it somewhat figured out, you struggle with the game's default settings for rooms (which are often nonsensical, such as all production jobs being only priority 1, or almost all stockpiles being set to store EVERYTHING by default).
Or the game's AI being sometimes very weird (everyone fights to their death always, even children!).
Or the uniforms logic preventing NPCs from equipping ANYTHING except the specified items - don't have the specified gear? Too bad, now the NPC won't wear anything in that slot.
Many issues along those lines.
It is a complete mystery to me why the dev decided to release such an initially confusing game without proper tutorialization, better default settings and better AI in some regards.
This game should NOT have left Early Access when it did.
However, if you can somehow overcome all of those issues, what awaits you is a quite atmospheric and chill colony survival game that I can actually recommend, because the foundation is rock solid.
Just be aware you are in for a rough start or should wait for improvements.
Earlier versions of this game were more enjoyable.
Changes to the UI and worker logic have made this game clunky and a chore.
Trying to determine what a room needs to function is far more confusing than it used to be.
Later update made this clearer (room permissions default to single 'family' unit, typically of one ancient):
Ancients dying from sickness despite available resting places is incredibly frustrating.
New Issue:
Villagers will starve to death carrying food to a stockpile then walking away to go grab more whilst actively starving to death. This game could be good... but by god is it frustrating with its stupid issues.
The developer fixed a bunch of issues with the game and is continuing to update it, so it is actually worth buying now.
It's a Dwarf Fortress style colony sim with simplified but still fun game-play and includes the things you'd expect. If you like DF, you'll like this. The only issue I have now is that there's only so many hours in the day to spend playing this and DF.
This game has a beautiful art style and potential to be a good game. It is unfortunate to see it released in this unfinished and confused state.
There doesn't seem to be a focus on any particular gameplay, or theme, just a mix of half implemented systems that don't really come together to make something interesting.
It feels like the developers ambition exceeded their ability to deliver. A smaller scale with tighter focus might have been a better start to build upon, rather than going big first and then trying to contract to something achievable.
A relaxing colony sim with charming art and music, and tons of potential. The core gameplay is relatively relaxed and satisfying, and the devs have included the "bones" of a truly unique colony/empire management system. I do get the sense the game is still not entirely finished. I've encountered a few serious bugs, and progression/tension does stall relatively quickly. If this is a deal breaker for you maybe keep an eye on the devlogs, but I'd certainly recommend go ahead an jump in if you like colony sims. Overall, this title is a good time, and well worth the asking price. Kudos to Unknown Origin - keep up the good work.

Need's some tender QoL updates methinks. Decent game but wouldn't say i've gotten my moneys worth out of it. Just struggle to pick it up.
