I'm amazed at how under the radar this game is. Null Vector is very short, but it's quite well done for a room-based twin-stick shooter roguelite. There's some interesting decisions to be made along the way for upgrades, the room objectives are varied and interesting, and the overall aesthetic is quite cool. I think if you're a fan of Geometry Wars and Enter the Gungeon you'll be a fan of Null Vector as well.
Oh and it is basically perfect to play on the steam deck while you're waiting for your bus stop to arrive!

С каждым уровнем будет появляться всё больше комнат и врагов, и в конце игрока ожидает финальный босс...
Вот только прохождение игры не является концом, ведь это только откроет первый игровой модификатор
Модификаторы делают игру более случайной и сложной (один просто повышает скорость игры, другой снижает максимальное здоровье корабля, другой снижает вероятность появления лечилок, а какой-то даёт шанс, что в зачищенной комнате вновь появится волна противников...)
Опять же все модификаторы можно активировать одновременно, и это повысит как сложность, так и очки, получаемые во время прохождения (увы, сейчас не эпоха "highscore", но для некоторых игроков это может стать вызовом или же просто забавным весельем в компании)
И если кажется, что вы прошли игру, и знаете уже всё, она всё равно заставит удивиться, когда игрок в первый раз отправится в "Hell Mode", после которого всё, что было в "нормальном режиме", покажется детской забавой
My current favorite game when I have a half hour to kill. This is a really well balanced twin-stick shooter that balances power-ups well and offers many different options for replay. I'm a bit bummed the creator seems to have vanished, would love to see what other games he would have made.
Each game tends to be pretty short. Maybe 20 minutes to get through the whole thing. For me the fun is seeing what upgrade paths I can take and what the different weapons do maxed out and what combinations of weapons do what.
Rockets provide explosive damage areas, lasers give instant attacks while rockets + lasers combine both. Nanobots create swarms of little dots randomly when you kill things that then go on to attack other enemies.
Other upgrades include multi-shot, homing shot, shields, damage, piercing (allows bullets to travel through enemies and damage all enemies in path). Upgrading to multi-shot, homing, and damage will slow your weapon's fire rate but thankfully there are fire rate upgrades to be found and upgraded to balance this out.
Definite must buy if you like twin-stick shooters or ever played robotron 2049. Starts out slow, but it offers plenty of action and replay value.
Super fun and really polished, but has incredibly aggravating bug of randomly not moving in a certain axis from shooting at an angle
Very solid and fun game. Similar to Binding of Isaac, but much less poop.
The final boss comes quickly, but it invites you to keep going again with unlocked modifiers that make the game harder.

En stream le jeu rend bien, il est beau, intuitif, simple, minimaliste, prenant, on découvre et devine les rôles de chaque élément du jeu assez facilement (sauf pour le Nanobot j'ai mis du temps à comprendre que c'est du poison)
Il est rapide, une ou deux run suffisent à se familiariser et passer un bon moment et plusieurs run seront nécessaire pour venir à bout de ce jeu qui pour les plus vétérans demandera beaucoup d'adresse au vu de tout les malus que l'on peut se rajouter pour évoluer dans la difficulté.
Le mapping est bien fait, l'interface compréhensible, facile de prise en mains pour tout niveau de joueurs, le débutant pourra évoluer tranquillement quand le tryhardeur débloquera rapidement plein de malus pour se mettre au défi, l'objetif final pour platine le jeu serait alors de finir une run avec les malus des 3 pages.
Franchement une belle surprise et un plaisir d'y avoir joué
A bite sized twin-stick that keeps things simple, straightforward, and quick. Eight way movement and firing if you're on keyboard (game doesn't read mouse) akin to a true original arcade twin-stick, which happens to be my preferred way to play. Honestly, I could see this doing reasonably well in a cabinet.
There's exactly one thing that isn't particularly clear in the game (Nanobots). [b]One.[/b] Everything else you'll just about figure out within 4 seconds of having it or getting shot at by it. The classic "one enemy does one thing" holds here, and there aren't any "go run around shooting every wall" type of obscure hidden things.
It's pretty short and gets repetitive, but it's definitely worth the asking price. Tight controls, escalating gameplay, and just enough variety of gear to make you think a little about what you take and when - but only a little. Soundtrack is pretty solid, worth a buy imo... if it was here.
EDIT: It's on Bandcamp, 7 bucks but the tracks are trimmed to perfectly loop out of the gate. Looping them yourself isn't exactly super hard normally, but one less step is one less step.
TL:DR (Really?) - A quick-play twin stick that doesn't overstay its welcome. Use KB for nostalgia. If the game ignoring mouse bothers you that much, wait for a sale or buy a controller.
If what you see in the trailers looks like something you would enjoy, buy it. If it doesn't, don't (or wait for a sale). There aren't any big secrets.
Great game! Lots of upgrades and really nice soundtrack! Could really benefit from an endless mode though (or looping).

Similar in genre to Binding of Isaac but faster paced and much simpler and less frustrating because the gameplay is much more transparent. The simplicity makes it easy to grasp but still hard-ish to master. Die hard Binding of Isaac fans might find it too easy but I found it slightly more enjoyable overall.
Would be nice with more content (mostly ship part variation, how about super weapons?) but I haven't actually beaten "the boss" yet so there might be more to it?

It's the rogue-like gameplay akin to the Binding of Isaac, mashed up a retro space shooter, with sprinkling of bullet hell to spice things up.
The random levels are well done, and upgrade choices will make you think twice about how you use your currency. There are even some difficult choices to be made here and there, such as: Will you take damage for a permanent health upgrade?
The permadeath fits the games rogue nature and makes each game its own entity.
The overall graphics are appropriately matched with simplistic retro style, and the enemies match as well.
After 30 minutes of play, I learned enough to play through to the end and beat it. Upon beating it, there was a new modifier unlocked, and it showed that there were about 15 or so I could unlock. Since it's a rogue game, and there are more modifiers to unlock, there is still replayability and value in it even after 30 minutes of fun.

A lovingly crafted, super fun pew pew game with a cute arcade theme. I keep going back to it because of its handling of challenge modes where you add modifiers (to make it harder) to earn yet more modifiers.
The only downsides are that it doesn't remember your modifiers between sessions and the hard (hell) mode starts with an annoying riff of clown music.
100% - this lives in my "best games of all time" category alongside Capsized and The Binding of Issac and Enter the Gungeon.
Quickly becoming one of my favourite games of all time, Null Vector is like a neon-coloured, arcade-ified, in-dev version of Binding of Issac, with even more fluid gameplay if I'm honest -- 100% recommend, essential if you love twin-stick shooters
Not bad. Not great.
As a devotee of the twin-stick-rogue, this is a competant game which has the sort of professional polish you don't see on Steam very much. That said, it's a little flat. The color choices bother me, since it becomes very hard to see what's going on in a proper cluster. The short play time is great for an arcade game, but the repetition cuts down its staying power.
What I do like is the upgrade system. It's rare to see one that's as well thought out and balanced as this. This is just a first impressions, and I'm sure it gets much harder once you unlock the challenge modifiers==
20 HRS L8R: Yeah, it gets much harder. The upgrades are versatile and extremely random, but the game play doesn't vary too much. Basically, you balance health, fire-rate and power, and the types of room in each level doesn't change (even with modifiers) so Null Vector does get a stale eventually. And with no unique art to speak of, I can't see anyone striving to master this game, but...
==as a basic rouge-like, it gets the job done. ★☆☆

This is one of the best games I've played this year. It's all the things the other reviewers said: shooter with rogue elements, tight controls, fast-paced arcade action, tons of customizability. And for less than the cost of lunch? It's a no-brainer.
I love twin-stick shooters, so when I saw the art style and general arcade-feel of this game I had to give it a go. Overall I really enjoy it. It has a rogue-lite procedurally generated rooms, as well as random upgrade machines in random rooms. Every run feels a bit different thanks to the many machines different machines and many different upgrades found in the levels. My favorite has to be the multi-shot and the homing upgrade, since you need to sacrifice one of your max HP to equip it.
The general gameplay of shooting and moving feels very smooth. I quite like the cover that is in nearly every room you go into. Certain upgrades work cleverly with the walls by being able to hit behind cover with the rocket shot or shooting at the cover to angle your shots with the ricochet upgrade.
This is an arcade style game, so one of the main draws is to get a high score, which appeals to me a lot. The in-game high score list is even shown in an arcade cabinet fashion which ties it all together.
You can unlock modifiers to add to the game and increase your score once you beat it the first time, and once you unlock 5 modifiers you unlock hell mode. Hell mode ramps up the difficuluty significantly, enemies move much faster, have different attack patterns, and bullets move faster as well.
If you like arcade games and miss some of that 80's arcade cabinet goodness of chasing high scores, this game is for you...as long as you also like twin-stick shooters and rogue-lite games.
An addicting twin stick shooter / roguelite with a focus on score attack. Easy to learn, you'll be done with the tutorial and on your way to enjoy the game in seconds. This is a game that doesn't waste your time.
The gameplay will quickly remind you of games like Asteroids and Smash TV, with some Isaac added for good measure. You can mix and match upgrades to tweak your attack style and create different builds. Rapid fire multi bullets that bounce everywhere, Piercing explody lasers or Homing rockets of doom? You decide.
The enemies you meet all have very different and clear patterns you have to compose with. Target prioritization and careful positioning will save your life. It's important to note that clearing out a room without taking any HP damage will be rewarded by the game.
Rooms will also often contain a machine which offers some sort of trade or risk/reward kinda deal. Those give you some good opportunities to invest and manage your resources or just flirt with Lady Luck if you wish to.
Once you complete your first run, the game gives you a difficulty modifier (for increased scoring potential!), which can be used to unlock another modifier, which can be used to unlock another, etc. And once you got them all, you will unlock Hell mode. This is where things get serious, with all enemies gaining new attacks and the game in general doing its best to kill you.
Special mention for the music, which I really enjoyed. Strangely nostalgic, it was epic without being overwhelming.
Almost forgot, but there's local coop too. Didn't try it yet, so more on that later.
Overall, this is a hidden gem that I'm glad I didn't miss. Thanks to Esty8nine on Twitch for showcasing the game. I bought it on the very same day.
I got it because i wanted a new game that was cheap. My money was "well spent?" I guess. Not what I thought it would be. It ended up being really challenging with a unique gameplay. Its usually easy except when you get stuck with a bad start or not being able to find a shield. I really enjoy the A E S T H E T I C S and the feeling that I will have a seizure from epilepsy. Insanely good graphics for such a simple and cheap game.
