A nice clean the road type of time management game. It just gets a bit boring if you play it all in one session since it doesn't really introduce any new elements across the game, but for shorter play sessions it is great.
Works fine on Linux with Proton (Proton 4.2-1).

Мы, как обычно строим здания и собираем ресурсы. Дерево с лесопилок, мясо с ферм, да на пеньках периодически появляется что-нибудь полезное. Иногда попадаются шахты, из которых можно быстро набрать кучу золото, но его там не очень много. Ещё мы строим домики помощников, например, охотника, чтобы он отлавливал зверей, или мага, который может распугать всякую нежить. На каждом уровне ведьма оставила злобные деревья и камни зла, которые портят окружающую среду. Если их разрушить, то земля восстановиться и будет хорошо. Игровой процесс несколько затянутый и однообразный, к середине игры приедается. Спасает то, что к третьему эпизоду, начинают добавлять всякие интересности.

Стандартная, в общем-то, картинка выглядит очень приятно, даже лампово. На территории попадаются красивые места и милый хомячок, который вечно пытается прятаться. Есть красивая анимация, когда земля восстанавливается после исцеления, но уровню к десятому это надоедает. Музыка атмосферная, фоновая.
Крепкий середнячок, каких много. Если захотелось какого-нибудь таймменеджера, можете смело пробовать.

Тайм-менеджмент стратегия. Одна из стареньких игр жанра... Запускается в кривом разрешении экрана, которое не поменять, так что играть пришлось в окне. Есть переодические фризы, когда вся игра подвисает на пару секунд. Русский язык есть, но озвучка английская. Ачивки только внутриигровые. По сути уровни мало чем отличаются и игра очень редко дает что-то новое, а если и дает то оно никак не меняет игровой процесс. Очееень скучно играть и я на 26 уровне таки забросил, т.к. 2 раза удалось уснуть во время прохождения. Сама тематика неплохая, викинги, факты о викингах и т.п...
У этой игры еще 2 части есть, надеюсь там будет лучше. Эту не рекомендую.

It's not bad. I'm thumbing it down because it doesn't deserve a 100% user score. Nonetheless, this game doesn't have much in the way of flaws.
The difficulty setting is a bit high. Your micro better be on point in order for you to have any hope of getting the 3 star time on most, let alone all, of the levels.
The in-game achievements aren't synced with Steam.
There's not a lot in the way of story. It's mostly just a pretext for the gameplay, as well as occasionally introducing you to special objectives.

An almost lovingly made, technically very well made collecting game. It's beginner friendly
with increasing difficulty. The first of a whole series.
Build buildings, remove obstacles. The cards are well made and well thought out. The story is good too. The gameplay differs slightly from other games of this type. There is absolutely nothing to complain about. The series is perhaps a bit too difficult for newcomers, since you have to be very careful to clear the paths correctly at the beginning of each map. However, this is the appeal of this game in general.
I definitely recommend it.

Sammelspiel von 2016.
Bringe in der wunderschönen, mit Magie und Tapferkeit erfüllten Saga Northern Tale wieder Farbe in eine schwarze, verbrannte Welt. Bei seiner Heimkehr stellt Wikingerkönig Ragnar fest, dass sein Reich von einer bösen Hexe verflucht wurde, die dem Land die Farbe raubte und seine Töchter in Tiere verwandelte.
Jetzt muss Ragnar die Hexe besiegen, um seine Familie und das Königreich zu retten. (Entwickler)
Ein geradezu liebevoll gemachtes, handwerklich sehr gut gemachtes Sammelspiel. Es ist Einsteiger freundlich
mit aufsteigendem Schwierigkeitsgrad. Das erste einer ganzen Serie.
Baue Gebäude, entferne Hindernisse. Die Karten sind gut gemacht und gut durchdacht. Die Geschichte ist ebenfalls gut. Das Gameplay unterscheidet sich geringfügig von anderen Games dieser Art. Es gibt rein gar nix zu meckern. Die Serie ist für Neueinsteiger vielleicht ein ticken zu schwer, da du schon sehr aufpassen musst zu Beginn ein jeder Karte die Wege richtig zu beräumen. Dies jedoch ist ja der Reitz an diesem Spiel so ganz allgemein.
Ich kann es eindeutig empfehlen.

This game is easy to play and has many interesting facets to it.

Best random steam key game
A nice, well-made time/resource management game. It has a time attack feature when you have to complete the levels in less time possible and a relaxing modality when you can max out all the resources with no stress. The story is very basic, the graphics and music is ok.
I would recommend only to people who really like resource management games.

The Viking Series is one of my favorite, I've tried other series and I don't know why but they're just not as good.
It's lovely to find one of these games that's actually challenging! Worth every penny and having played through and achieved all 2 and 3 stars I'm even tempted to play more that the 22 hours I've already played and get 3 star clearance. (Although I'm really unsure I'll be able to!)
Könnyed stratégiai mikromenedzsment játék. Néhány pálya van, ami nagyon szűkre van szabva, a többi viszont abszolút agykikapcsoló kattintgatás, mert sok helyen csak egy út van. Ha csak nézni akarsz és bambulni, ez a te játékod.

I suppose this is for young children, as it is the definition of a bare-bones time-management game. Except i've played through 1/3rd of the game and have yet to encounter the squirrel Viking. Anyway, if you have played any of the Viking Brothers games, the setting here is similar. The levels have no story or dialogue to them, and nothing new happens in level 14 that didn't already happen in level 1: that is, you don't learn any new skills or upgrades or encounter any new obstacles. The level design is likewise rudimentary-- I often only used one viking as a level might be designed like a single spiral and thus an extra body would not have saved any time. And there are no Steam achievements, so you might as well play the entire game on relaxed mode. There are 3 Acts of 15 levels each. I have finished the first in about 2 hours, so expect the entire game will take about 6 or 7. Verdict: a single thumbs up if you're the target audience of ages 4 to 14.
(And obviously, consider this a thumbs down if you dislike Moai, Hercules, or the Viking Brothers games.)
Note: it is very possible to get "stuck" on some levels, as unlike Moai and some other such games, you have no control of where farms and mines are built. What worked for me was always to head my viking towards the nearest mine or farm and make sure that I was getting resources from it first before heading anywhere else.
1er opus de la série des Northern Tale. Jeu de gestion des ressources (nourriture, pierre et or) où a l'aide de vikings il vous faut compléter des objectifs dans un temps imparti pour une victoire à 3 étoiles ou moins.
Des régions variées, une petite histoire autour de Ragnar et Gertha la sorcière.
Sympa, sans prétentions, ce jeu vous occupera une 10aine d'heures.
A noter des succès "ingame" pour les puristes.

Is it fun... yehh. Is it challenging... not really. Didn't get really challenged until level 40. There are 45 levels haha.
If you're looking for casual enjoyment grab it fora buck! If you want a challenge go for 12 Labors of Hercules or Moai.

If you ever played the endless stream of Hercules games, this is like that. Maybe a little more simple, but the gist is the same.
Always better in a bundle, but at 2.99 USD it is ok.

O jogo é bem fácil, simples de se aprender. Os gráficos do game é bem padrão aos jogos de point to click, pelo menos aos que são semelhantes na jogabilidade.
O jogo não é tão caro assim pela gameplay, tem muitas fases e da pra tirar umas boas horas.
Eu recebi o game de graça, então pra mim valeu mais a pena ainda kkkk.

Jedním ze sympatických faktorů hry je výběr ze 3 různých módů. Nejtěžší (označený "normal") neumožňuje řetězit akce, takže po každém úkonu musíte počkat, až ho viking dokončí, a teprve potom mu zadat další. Snazší mód přidává právě možnost řetězit akce a pro úplně odpočinkovou hru je tu mód "casual", který je bez časového limitu.
Za 17,4 hodiny jsem dokončila všechny úrovně (45 obyčejných a 3 bonusové) na 3 hvězdičky v módu "normal", přičemž lehce přes 6 hodin jsem strávila dosbíráváním hvězdiček. Hra sice nemá Steam Achievementy, ale má je v rámci hry, některé z nich tajné.
Northern Tale jsem získala v balíčku asi 15 her za cca 2 Eura celkem, takže ve výsledku prakticky zadarmo. Netvrdím, že bych si tuhle hru koupila samostatně, ale za těchhle okolností jsem víc než spokojená.

This Time Management game has charming artworks and the unusual possibility to play without timer. If you would like to try one of those game without being stressed by the time limit, this one may be the right to buy to test out.
A funny casual game!

Nice game, not the best in this genre, but worth the time and money. It will provide you many hours of fun.
I was having a bad day when I started this game and I found it absorbing enough to take my mind off things. I played with the timer off (why add to my stress?) and found it very enjoyable. The music and sound effects were nice, not annoying. The only negative I could see was the font on the loading screens - it just made the game look a bit cheap and unprofessional. But who really cares about that. If you can get this game at a discount it's a nice way to spend a few hours, and probably quite a bit more if you're going to attempt three stars on each level with the timer on. The story here is pretty minimal, and could easily be expanded on between levels (instead of between every 15 levels).
I think this game is suitable for all ages and Northern Tale 3 & 4 are available as free to play games on mobile, though I don't see 1 and 2 in the Google Play store. My gaming laptop is currently in the shop and this ran perfectly on my crappy Acer, for which I have difficulty finding games.

Gameplay
This is a strategy game, where careful planning is required, due to the limited amount of resources that are available.
There are three different difficulty game modes to choose from: Normal; Multi-task; Relaxed. The difference between these difficulty game modes are: Timer Speed and Scoring. The normal mode, the timer speed and scoring is low. The multi-task mode, the timer speed and scoring are moderately high. The relaxed mode, the timer speed is frozen and scoring is moderately high.
There are three different chapters. All the chapters have fifteen regular levels and bonus levels. All levels can be replayed for better scoring and star rating.
All levels have a three star rating system. The stars are earned from playing the game. The star rating system represents how fast the level has been completed. Three Stars (Gold;) Two Stars (Silver;) One Star (Bronze.) There is an opportunity to replay levels for better star rating.
There are several different special power ups to help complete the level faster. These special bonus power ups come with a time limit. But they can be used again after they have been recharged overtime.
There are fifty-eight different achievements that can be unlocked from playing the game. Each of these achievements does come with some requirements that need to be completed before they can be unlocked. These achievements are in-game only.
Miscellaneous
Final thoughts: I have found the game enjoyable to certain extent. The replay value for the game is low. I would recommend this game, but not at the game's full price value.
Less polished than some other series (say, 12 Labours of Hercules), but quite playable. Has an untimed difficulty and in-game achievements. Fullscreen works on multiple monitors.
Runs great on Steamplay (Linux Mint 18.2 64-bit (Kernel 4.13) NVIDIA 384.130 i5-6500 / GTX 1060).
I thoroughly enjoyed Northern Tale and would play it again! What I like most about it is it caters to my playing style. Rather than rushing through trying to complete the level in a certain amount of time, I like to play relaxed and complete everything: all resources picked up, all holes filled, all buildings to the max, etc. Northern Tale allows me to do that and doesn't penalize me for playing that way (3 stars awarded on all completed levels).
Even though some levels can lead to "strategy meltdown" (choosing the wrong strategy requiring a restart of the level), it is usually apparent relatively quickly so doesn't waste a lot of time replaying the level with a different strategy. One level I actually started three times because the strategy in the first two attempts were blocked with no way to proceed.
If you like the genre or you're new to time management / strategy, you might want to give it a whirl.

Nothern Tale is a time manager with a tremendous amount of potential, ruined by pacing issues, a lack of a proper story, and level design that is mediocre at best.

Northern Tale 1 is just another entry in the sea of resource managers where we have to use our small workforce to gather resources, clear roads, and construct production buildings. This time, we do it to cleanse the Viking land from a curse, while also saving the three daughters of our hero, Ragnar, from an evil sorceress. I just hope you like this premise, because the entire story is four small cut-scenes, nothing more.
The game has an incredible variety in mechanics, especially when it comes to resource gathering: we have the usual piles on the road, upgradeable production buildings, free but slow tree trunks, and depleting mines.
Despite this abundance, all levels feel incredibly limited, since all upgrades cost wood and we constantly have to wait for it to replenish. This also means that unless we play non-timed modes, it is often impossible to get more than two workers, as the level goals are brutally tight and most stages act like puzzles, where one wrong move can result in large time losses or a reset.
In the end, Northern Tale 1 is more like a foundation that can be skipped in favour of the later games, unless you really want to experience the small story for yourself.

Es un juego con una premisa sencilla pero que requiere estrategia y manejo del tiempo para cumplirla adecuadamente.
Una pequeña joya escondida, y a un excelente precio. Cómprenlo, no se van a arrepentir!

Für mich waren die Level fast alle immer perfekt ausbalanciert.
Meistens fehlten immer wenige Sekunden bis zum Goldstern, oder aber ich habe es gerade so geschafft.
Es war also niemals langweilig oder wirklich stressig.
Hercules ist da bei der Hälfte der Karten meistens knackiger und wuseliger.
Auch wenn es immer knapp ist, so bekommt man nie diesen Stress, wo man tausend Sachen gleichzeitig beachten muss, denn die Gebäude ernten automatisch, man muss lediglich Ressourcen von den Baumstämmen einsammeln lassen.
Die Karten spielen sich bis auf die 3-4 wichtigen Storymissionen oft relativ gleich, das machen ein paar andere Spiele etwas besser.
Aber jede Karte machte für sich viel Spaß und ich habe das Spiel am Stück durchgesuchtet.
Story war genreüblich spärlich gesät, da gibt es auch welche, die sich mehr anstrengen.
Grafik und Sound ist Standard, wie vor einigen Jahren üblich, ohne HD.
Es gibt paar nette Errungenschaften, leider nicht bei Steam, das finde ich sehr schade, denn es gibt auch interessante Dinge, wie z.B. Thors Hammer zu finden, und auch paar kleine Viecher unter Schilden und in Helmen.
Die Spielzeit ist angemessen, sind 45 Level.
Alles in Allem ein sehr nettes Spiel und sollte unbedingt gekauft werden!

Northern Tale is a time management game in which you have to make your way to your objectives by clearing the path of obstacles and useful resources. You start with a villager at your town center, and you must select the object you want the villager to work on next. The villager will run down the path, and interact with that object to clear it, making room for the next part of the path.
Objects include resources (food, wood, and gold), obstacles such as woodpiles and rocks, and gold chunks, which cost resources to collect, and animals/wizards, which require a special villager (druid or excorcist) whose huts must be built before you use them. In addition to finding resources on the path, there are stumps which regularly replenish after you collect them, and also farms and mines that you must build, which give you a unit resource every 30 seconds or so, and may be upgraded to give you up to 3 per 30 seconds. You can also upgrade your town center to give you more villagers, and use special cheats which replenish with time.
There is a story throughout the game, which doesn't matter much to the gameplay, and can be safely ignored. The story divides the game into three episodes of 15 levels each. Each level has unique objectives and a time limit to finish the level. Finishing the level will earn you one star for that level. Finishing with a better time, will earn you two or three stars. You must earn at least one star in a level to unlock the next level, and you must complete the episodes in sequential order. Achieving three stars in all the levels of a episode will unlock a bonus level.
The levels start easy and get progressively harder. The later levels in episode three are particularly hard to earn three stars in, but I managed to unlock and beat all three bonus levels, so it can be done.
Just for comparison's sake, this game is better than Island Tribe, by the same company.
Came for the hamster viking, stayed for a very relaxing and satisfying game!
Uitstekend time-management spel. Het begint gemakkelijk met wat tutorial levels, maar daarna wordt het steeds lastiger je maximale score van 3 sterren per level te behalen. Leuke cartoon figuren en tussen de levels door wordt het verhaal vertelt.
Trotz Anverwandtschaft....
.... mit Spielen wie My Kingdom of Princess oder Royal Envoy - die die gleiche inhaltliche Spielweise haben - macht dieses Spiel richtig Spaß. Die gleiche Art und doch wieder anders.
Einzig was mir nicht gefällt ist, dass in der oberen rechten Ecke die Infos der benötigten Ressourcen hinter der Aufgabenanzeige eingeblendet ist, sodass das man nicht lesen kann was benötigt wird.
Trotzdem empfehle ich das Spiel ;-)
I found this little gem as I was wandering thru the steam store. It's a time management type game like "My Kingdom for the Princess" and very well done. It runs very well on my older PC and has cute music and nice looking graphics.
And my favorite part...It has a relax mode so I can play without having a timer stress me out. There are two types of timed game play (normal and hard) if that's your thing, but I personally don't like timed games.
There is one bad point...If you have your window's display setting set to 125% or higher, the game is not smart enough to display properly. This is easily fixed by temporarily changing your window's display setting back to 100%. But if you don't, the game will not fit your screen. In windowed mode, the game will extend past the bottom of your screen and full screen will chop off both the right and bottom parts of the game.
Overall, this is a fun little game and well worth 3 dollars.

Northern Tale is an amazing game of time management. You play as a viking who has to beat some levels to defeat a witch and save your daughters. Some levels are very difficult and despite the fact the the game doesn't have Steam Achievements, it has 50 achievements inside the game. The music is great and I can spend hours and hours playing this. Recommended!

[i]Ist es wert dieses Spiel zu kaufen? ......... Hmm. dieße Frage auf anhieb und auf der Stelle zu beantworten kann man nicht.
Aber um das ganze abzukürtzen, ja mir gefällt das Spiel und ich bereue den kauf nicht!
Und jetzt zu der Frage "Warum?":[/i]
1. - Indie-Games muß man lieben und ja ich mag sowas!
2. - Die Frage des Preises: der Preis von nicht ganz 3,-EUR ist meiner Meinung vollstens gerechtfertigt, denn immerhin steckt in so einem Spiel ne Menge Arbeit drin, die bezahlt werden soll.
3. - Muß man das Spiel haben: Ein "Muß" hat nur der Tot, ich kann es euch nur empfehlen aber entscheiden müßt ihr selber.
p.s. mir macht das Spiel einen Heidenspaß
