The game feels poorly designed and frustrating to play. My main problems are:
- Game flow is confusing and enemies feel overcomplicated. There is way too much happening on the screen, visuals blend together and it doesn't feel like it's possible to properly react to enemies and beat them without taking damage when there are a ton of them at the same time.
- There are a LOT of weapons in this game, way more than you could try in your playthrough. But a lot of the weapons are redundant (they have straight up stronger versions of themselves), there is not enough information in-game to compare different weapons and there is no system that incentivizes you actually using different weapons.
- I have no idea how completion ranks are calculated and what I need to do to get S ranks in levels. Also, it looks like combos matter for ranks which is weird because there are a lot of weapons that can easily get a lot of combo (low-damage, high firerate weapons) and then there are weapons that are difficult to get high combo with (slow, high-damage weapons) and as far as I could tell there was already no reason to use the latter as they were weak, so the balance seems poor.
- There is a special meter in the game that allows you to do a super special attack but I was not able to naturally perform it even once in my game.
- The achievements have been broken for years unless you play on the beta version and the devs don't care and provide no feedback on this issue.

CON:

-enemy attack you before appear on the screen, and dev tend to make every level with this gimmick
-dash attack have invincible time but only for half duration, mean everytime you dash attack, you get hit immediately because you can't move at all after dash attack and the invincible time is gone before your attack finish
-you can't stun any enemy, and as I mention above this makes your dash attack very hard to use because it's completely useless
-enemy can still hit you after they die (for example when their dead body flying out of the screen, imagine if you time your dash attack perfectly but you still get hit because of their dead body)
-bad level design, it's skill based but in an awkward way (for example they take out your ability to attack / dash / throwable in some levels, and put you in bunch of random enemy stack)
-same enemy different behaviour, 5-2 is basically the worst level of all time, I really wish the dev never going to release another game

Quem reclama é porque é ruim, esse jogo tem uma jogabilidade simples e boa, tem gente reclamando de hitbox e a aleatoriedade dos movimentos, MAS ISSO É O BÁSICO, como vão ajeitar hitbox? já tá perfeitamente no personagem! Cara... Eu gostaria muito que Ninjin: Clash of Carrots fosse um jogo divertido, pois o estilo de gameplay é do tipo que não tem como errar muito e que de certa forma a diversão poderia ser garantida, tendo muita similaridade com os jogos antigos da Cartoon Network, mas meu amigo... Como que conseguiram errar TANTO na principal proposta?

O principal problema do game inteiro é a gameplay, ela peca MUITO. Basicamente, a movimentação é muito estranha de se acostumar, principalmente em relação aos inimigos, que se movem e atacam de forma completamente aleatória, e isso é muito frustrante porque você vai levar um dano muito do besta por causa da falta de lógica na gameplay. E a hitbox? MEU DEUS DO CÉU!!! Não importa se você usa dash, que deveria te deixar com uma minima invencibilidade, mas ela basicamente é inexistente, pois você SEMPRE vai levar dano, principalmente em grandes ondas de inimigos, você VAI levar dano, não importa o quão bom você seja.

Em relação aos bosses, eles são SUPER demorados, com brechas quase inexistentes para você acertar eles, e quando acerta, você VAI levar dano. Pior é quando a gameplay não é com o cenário indo para frente... Isso é simplesmente um LIXO.

Inimigos sempre são os mesmos de sempre e as armas são muitas, mas basicamente TODAS são inúteis. Tal arma dá mais dano que a outra... Mas isso basicamente não existe kkkkkkkkk. Você mata os mesmos inimigos e não importa o dano da arma, o dano basicamente vai ser o mesmo DESDE O INÍCIO.

Resumindo: Gameplay ruim, sem sentido e frustante, variedade de armas e itens completamente inúteis e dificuldade injusta por causa de todos esses outros pontos negativos.

It's a very unique game, and even more so, its artistic style is something that is not seen every day, definitely, if you are attracted to beat 'em up games, 2000's and cartoon aesthetics you should buy it!! (also if you don't care about achievements, because achievements are bugged...)

As a curious fact: in 2019, Cartoon Network together with Pocket Trap and Birdo (a Brazilian animation studio) made an animated adaptation of this game told through short chapters

如果係一個成就黨，千祈唔好買！

本遊戲內容我好滿意，但問題係成就系統無法正常解鎖。我喺該遊戲嘅討論區發現有其他玩家都遇上同樣嘅問題（英文討論）。我嘗試過將遊戲版本回退至測試版的1.4版本，睇下可唔可正常解鎖成就，但結果係播完開場動畫後黑屏，撳咩掣都冇反應。可悲嘅係本遊戲對上一次更新係2022年9月，咁間接證明咗遊戲開發者根本就無意解決呢個問題，不過，好彩嘅係Steam批准我嘅超時兩小時嘅退款申請。

Fun quick beat em up arcade game! Got the Castle Crashers vibes and everything! Great Two Players I originally saw this on switch and had to get here for the steam deck because I trust steam deck to be here longer than a switch and no $20 yearly fee to play with someone! I write this review because ummm I think the achievements are broken.. If anyone got broken achievements look up S.A.M. Steam Achievement Manager helps with moments like these!

10/10 One of the most fun games EVER!
One of the most fun coop beatemup roguelikes ever. Very fun game. Wild selection of weapons( from swords to anchors to cactus's) Also 2ndary throw weapons and upgradeable equipment that changes the way you play.

Fun singleplayer, but MORE Fun with coop and controllers. Also instead of walking you fly around the screen at a high pace which really sets it apart from standard beatemups. The speed adds to the fun and the cartoony artwork is cool along with nice control of your character.
Worth a play if you are looking for a fun cooperative game for all.
Hours of fun best described as controlled chaos...Very fun

[h1]First Impressions[/h1]
Lately, I've been bouncing around various games, going for different styles and control schemes. Wanting something to play with a controller again, I thought that Ninjin: Clash of Carrots (NCC) would be a good choice. Although it has the option for local coop, it doesn't seem like the kind of game my friend would enjoy, so I played it on my own, and I'm fairly confident by my conclusion. He probably wouldn't like it. Unfortunately, neither did I.

[h1]Gameplay[/h1]
Considering what the main mechanic behind NCC is, it feels like a game that should have come out decades ago, as a way of getting around programming limitations. The reason I say that is because this hack and slash/auto-runner style game puts positioning above almost all other factors. If enemies get to the left side of you, they'll attack you from behind and score easy damage. Your main counter to this is to stay towards the right until they get away from the left edge, dash back behind them, and whale on their exposed side.

You're also able to throw projectiles in order to fend off annoying threats, but across the game, they'll keep adding different mechanics and gimmicks to confound you. For instance they'll use shields, kamikaze robots, shoot fireballs, and even charge directly at you. Unless using an elemental weapon that counters certain enemies, their tactics seem more powerful than what you have available in your arsenal. Being outnumbered is a pretty significant matter, especially when distracted with a range of attacks, when you have to stay on the left of them and slash away.

[h1]Controls[/h1]
With the majority of NCC handling like a hack and slash game, it may not seem like playing it with a keyboard would be much of an issue. However, since you can also throw projectiles, I wonder if that would make it harder to play with a mouse and keyboard. I just used a controller though, so it's a moot point for me. Generally it worked well, although the way certain projectiles responded to my melee attacks, I'm not sure how it's supposed to handle. Sometimes when slashing at the pink orbs, they'd careen right back at the enemy that dropped them, whereas there'd be times when it'd slightly each time. I've no idea what made the difference.

[h1]Story[/h1]
As humble farm ninjas, Ninjin the bunny, and Akai the fox, are content to protect their village from harm. However, a shogun mole raids the countryside of its carrots, stealing the village's entire food supply, when they have baby bunnies to feed! Unable to let this injustice stand, you pursue his goons in order to retrieve the year's harvest. Despite the fairly important stakes involved, there's plenty of humor sprinkled throughout the story. Some of it can be quite juvenile, but even when not making poop jokes, it seems goofy overall. I mean, General Jam used a cardboard box as a tank because his shogun boss told him to.

[h1]Visuals[/h1]
I wouldn't be able to pinpoint a show in particular, but the visual style of NCC makes me think of anime from the 90's, although not the more mainstream ones like DragonBall Z. Instead, I'm thinking about ones such as Samurai Pizza Cats. They're cheesy and in-your-face Japanese, which really seems to fit the look and feel this game was going for. Due to the silliness, enemies are a bit cartoony, with the entire package coming across like it was aimed at children.

[h1]Sound Design[/h1]
Quite a few reviews have mentioned the music in NCC, and that's because some of the songs are bangers. They tend to be fast-paced, which supports the hectic action of the gameplay. I think what gives them a bit of flair is the choice of instruments, as some tunes make good use out of the saxophone and a stringed instrument of some kind, as I don't think it's a guitar. Either way, I'd have to agree with the notion that the music is probably stronger than the game itself.

[h1]Pros[/h1]
🌟 Stages only last a few minutes and have consistent waves, so you'd be able to learn the patterns and improve if you're having trouble clearing a stage.
🌟 There's a nice variety in the enemies and accessories that can be equipped.

[h1]Cons[/h1]
❌ Although a wide variety of weapons is generally a plus, the sheer amount of carrots you'd need to grind for them all is excessive.
❌ For some reason, the achievements stopped working, and haven't yet been fixed.
❌ Certain stage gimmicks or enemies can be really annoying.

[h1]Tips[/h1]
🔍 Based on the S ranks I've gotten, you don't have to avoid that much of the possible damage. It's more a matter of not making too many mistakes while making your attempted attacks count.
🔍 Your stamina gauge acts as a limit on how often you can use both melee and long-range attacks.
🔍 I used the carrot sword because I liked being able to rapidly spam its attack.

[h1]Final Thoughts[/h1]
This might seem like a strange analogy, but the main mechanic of NCC reminds me of what it was like being a kid, disagreeing with my friends. Instead of a meaningful argument or anything of merit, we'd all just try to come up with an excuse for why our natural attributes gave us the greatest advantage, “Well, I'm taller, so I have the high ground.” “No, I can jump the highest. Therefore, I win.” “That's not fair, your mom bought you new shoes! I can stand up on tip toe the longest, see!” At its core, that's the idea behind the game, being furthest to the left of the screen so that nobody else is allowed to attack you. Instead of something more interesting or fun, I'm just trying to jockey for the left side of the screen, having to move aside occasionally because otherwise it's unfair. Analogy aside, I don't find the gameplay fun, and wasn't interested in going further with it.

Screen shake can't be reduced, the game slows down ever time you are hit or you hit an enemy, the game says it is running in 120 fps but it feels like ~15-30 fps, & the character seems to move slower going backwards than forwards (despite how slowing down would realistically be faster than speeding up), the controls feel sluggish & imprecise like you are sliding on ice or something.

Go play the demo, if you like what you get, the game is just more of that with slight differences.

Your attacks consist of A normal forward facing strike, a dash. a dash attack, a shuriken, & a super (which activates on its own when you fill a meter with *Melee damage* the shuriken doesn't count so don't expect to try & have fun throwing shurikens or anything). Most of the variety in the game comes from the different shurikens, but those don't even count towards super meter, & the TV show survival mode thing doesn't let you take any equipment with you so you can't even start with what you consider fun gear.

This game kinda feels like it is fun policed, I'd say get the soundtrack instead.

勇者のくせになまいきだみたいなノリの会話とか

序盤の雰囲気とか見た目自体はカジュアルなゲームに見えるが、タグ付けには高難易度とついている通り
ボスやステージによって装備を付け替えたり、戦い方をゴリ押しからヒットアンドアウェイに変えたりなど
その都度で戦い方を模索しないと、HPがなくなって死ぬ戦いを迫られるようになってくるのが面白い
ただ雑にプレイしてクリアはできないってだけの難易度なので
分かりやすく単純に理不尽なレベルでクリア不可能って訳ではないのがバランス良く調整が出来ている

しかしこのゲームの一番の見どころは
ボダランばりの恐ろしいほどに質の高い、イカれた翻訳がされた文章にある
言い回しとか問答は洒落てたりお約束パターンで構成されてるのに
おとなしそうな敵もキレたり追い詰められると「マジで」とか「ヤバい」とか
どんどん頭悪くなって語彙力が低下していくのがマジでヤバい
名前に関してもクマの名前が[spoiler]原文だとkumaだったのがクマノハナ[/spoiler]だったり大喜利してて面白い名前があるけど
反面、お化けの敵の名前が[spoiler]バターズって名前だけど、原文はghostbettersだから[/spoiler]原文のままカタカナの方が良かった部分も一部あります
でも概ね日本語のクオリティが高すぎて、日本人が作ったゲームと思えるぐらい
原文も含めて日本語で面白おかしくアレンジしてるのでマジでヤバい

あとはオンラインでフレンドと遊ぶ際はすぐには遊べず
チュートリアルを終わらせてからじゃないと遊べないタイプのゲームなので要注意
最初のステージを"お互いに一人"でクリアしたら、ステージ選択画面でプライベートマッチを立てられる/参加できるようになって
ようやくフレンドと遊べるようになります
ちょっとめんどくさい仕様だけど、インディーズのゲームだからしゃーない
気になった所はそれぐらいなもんなんで
セール時は100円ぐらいでお財布にもやさしく手軽に買えるから
みんなも買って仲の良いフレンドと遊んでみよう

全実績解除したので追記：
現行Versionは日本語化されてるものの
一部不具合が発生しており、実績解除などが出来なくなっている
プロパティのベータから、V1.4のダウングレードパッチを当てると
実績が解除できるようになるので
面白かったからせっかくだし、やりこみプレイしようと思ってる人はパッチ当てるヨロシ
（ただし残念ながら日本語で遊べなくなる）
因みに5-2のSランクの最後の方は若干運要素も絡むため
何度かトライアンドエラーが必要になるので覚悟するヨロシ
あと2面のソードがなかなかドロップしないと思うけど、小さい箱の出現率は2-3が比較的出易いと思うので参考にするヨロシ

Ninjin: Clash of Carrots is definitely one of the best indie games ever made. it’s one of these hidden gems that you found on a sale and unexpectedly it becomes one of the best games you ever played, but that doesn’t mean that the game has no flaws.

[h1] The good things [/h1]

- first and most importantly in this type of games is the gameplay. the gameplay in this game looks simple but it’s quite solid. You can only attack, throw projectile, dash and attack while dashing, but the gameplay encourage you be better at attacking in the perfect time, choosing your weapons and managing your stamina. the more you understand the gameplay, the more enjoyable the game will be. 17 hours of playing and the game didn’t get boring at all

- the story doesn’t take itself seriously at all and is full of jokes, which are really good and funny. the dialogues and its jokes were so funny and make you wait for any cutscene to just hear what the characters have to say.

- the soundtracks in this game are also good and fit the atmosphere of the game

- the content of the game is more than enough for a 10$ game like this ( i bought it for 1$ on a sale ). you have two playable characters, 5 worlds, tons and tons of weapons, a lot of different enemies and good endless mode

- the design of the waves in the game is the best thing in the whole game. the dev thought very deeply about the number,placement and usage of any enemy in every wave. the game also does a fantastic job on making every level different, especially at the end. every time you think the game doesn’t have anything new, it hits you with new ideas.

- the style of the graphic is beautiful and i loved the pixel graphic here

[h1] The bad things [/h1]

- there was a very high spike in difficulty in level 5-2. this games contradict with everything the game introduced. the main idea of the game is to have fun and you can make it challenging for yourself if you tried to get the S rank. all this in short levels from 3 to 6 minutes. but level 5-2 is quite the opposite. the level is so long (11 minutes) and so hard, especially if you are just playing causally. this comes from someone who got the S rank in all levels except this one. i understand the dev wanted to make this level the final challenge for everything you saw in the game, but i think i would have been better if it was a side level

- the endless mode while enjoyable has some major flaws. why is everything so random. the game was good because everything was deeply thought of, but when the game is random it becomes so bad and unfair, especially if you want to reach wave 500. and why isn’t there any description of the items you get between the waves. i certainly can’t remember the power and effects of every weapon and sometimes i take something as a projectile, but it turn out to be a sword. i think if the dev fixed this the endless mode will be way better

- while the dialogue is good, but the cutscenes are few. i wanted to see the characters interact with one another, but it’s not a big problem

- the achievements don’t work in 2.0 version, but you can fix it if you played it with the 1.4 version

in conclusion, Ninjin: Clash of Carrots is a fantastic game and i hope to see another project from this dev, because i believe it will be another great game.

Definitely one of my favourites that I've played in recent years.

Beating up hoards of enemies is just pure dopamine fun, every hit feels so impactful. There are plenty of different enemies and the later stages provide a good challenge too! I think the humour also adds a lot of personality to the game (the boss fight against General Jam comes to mind), it's no wonder why this was also adapted into a mini animated show. I would highly recommend checking this one out.

有在线服务器，打完1-1之后在每一关的开始按钮下有在线游戏的提示，但是国区电信裸连连不上，也没找到加速器。
然后就和朋友用parsec进行了本地联机，结果打了一晚上发现成就一个都没跳，去讨论那边得知要版本回退到1.4才可以跳成就，合理怀疑是更新了语言之后的bug。总而言之感觉制作组把这个游戏做出来之后就很不上心……
这个游戏难度分布非常不均匀，第三章开始的炸弹人简直就是究极imba+光污染，暂时卡在那过不去了……

The game is good. There's no feeling better than mulching an entire screen of bad guys at once. There are times where the difficulty spikes before going back down to what it was, and there are levels that absolutely invalidate certain builds, which is annoying when there's no way of knowing that going in. If you find it on sale for a dollar, just buy it. It's well worth it.

Curva de dificuldade ridícula e injusta. Gameplay bem imprecisa (8 direções) e inimigos com movimentos muito imprevisíveis. Uma porrada de armas inúteis que você nunca vai usar (e bem caras também). Apesar de bonito; é Frustrante. Não recomendo.
