🧹 This is what is called a charming game. The graphics are atmospheric and beautiful, as is the music. The locations are small, but filled and comfortable for exploration. The camera seems close, but it doesn't cause discomfort. There are unusual interesting mechanics. The quests are simple, but more interesting than in most representatives of the genre. Cartoon characters and the plot are really funny (we're waiting for DLC or a sequel!) You can complete it in 3-4h. LVLing is modest (it would be better to have more), but the balance is good, there is protection from spam on bosses, but if you want to relax, DON'T play on "harder" difficulty, as some of the bosses can easily destroy your nerve cells with their attacks hitboxes.

This game is very short if you play all day but it can be Hard at some points but keep trying and you shall succeed. At sorta random i was able to beat the game without giving up. The bosses were difficult (the spider was the hardest. The werewolf was a joke since i leveled my fire up. If you lvled ur fire the bosses should be no hassle except for the final boss. Since you have to use the mech suit. Good job DarkFalzX you did a really good job on the game i enjoyed every bit of the game. It was fun to lets play it/ and long play it. Took me a whole day to beat it.

Fantastic Metroidvania platformer with some yet simple gameplay , great visuals and art style.

the game has a very nice and moody ambiance enhanced with sublte but noticeable shadows and light effects , the sountrack is great with it's mix of orchestra and chiptunes music , the story is good enough to drive the gameplay and there are various puzzles that make senses.

there is a good ammount of back tracking but it's not too much annoying either and you also level up by dispatching enemies , the maximum level can be reached in a few hours and give you much stronger projectile once you've reach it.

there is also a various Items to move around in order to solve the puzzles but like I said before the puzzles make senses and even if you get stuck it's very easy to figure out the current step you"re in when looking at a guide since the game is not overly complex.

A really well put together metroidvania that, as others have pointed out, features an item system that is more reminiscent of point-and-click adventure games. It feels very much like a 90s SNES/Genesis game with spot-on graphics, music ,and controls. The game-play is very fun and the story and dialogue are fun and amusing. The only big drawback? It is extremely short. You can easily beat this game and get both endings in under ten hours. I almost considered giving a negative review just because of that. I realize it is tough for indie game developers so I am not going to do that. But this game most certainly is not worth $15.

Graphics: 10/10 -- Looks like 90s 7th gen game, and a well-made one at that
Music/SFx: 10/10 -- The music is in the style of 90s games, but sounds more modern
Gameplay: 5/10 -- In and of itself, very enjoyable. But it gives less than ten hours of play.
Controls: 10/10 -- No problems here
Story: 10/10 -- Much more well thought out and well written that it needed to be

Cute graphics, but the platforming requires being too far onto the edge of the platforms at times that it just isn’t fun.

The adventure puzzles are obtuse and non-sensical having you do things like combing a bunch of random items, which you can only know to do after speaking to a single character.

The gunplay is too simplistic, and once you get to the first boss the difficulty spikes steeply, because in this fight it’s almost impossible to not get hit and requires a lot of tedious jumping and shooting, which was so unsatisfying I decided I didn’t want to play anymore.

И не потому, что нет записной книжки с заданиями. И не потому, что здесь ушлёпский бэктрэкинг. И не потому, что тебе вываливают на голову 15 предметовв начале игры , но по-ушлёпски ограничиваешь размер инвентаря 6-ю(!) предметами! Серьёзно?? И не потому, что автор спёр трёхглового Крысиного Короля из одного замечательного мультика. И не потому, что прокачка персонажа(раз уж завели здесь прокачку) застревает раньше середины игры. Takes about 3 hours for first time 100% run, about 45 minutes to speedrun, so not too long but the presentation makes up for it IMO. Worth a play.

ahi estaba el problema, te dan mas de 20 objetos que no sabes donde carajo debes usar, incluso tuve que mirarme una guia varias veces para poder avanzar o te trancas en un area. pero luego que supe donde debes usar cada cosa es disfrutable sacarle todos sus logros fue divertido y es barato asi que si lo agarras en oferta compralo.

Mystik Belle is a metroidvania / side-scrolling adventure game created by pixel artist and solo developer darkfalzx. It is the story of the titular Belle, a student at the Hagmore Magic Academy, who is framed for ruining the Waplurgisnacht Brew on the night of a very important ritual and is charged with recovering the ingredients in order to make a new one.

Right off the bat, this game is beautiful. You can really tell that the developer specializes in pixel art and animation as all of the sprites in the game look incredible and have extremely fluid animations. The backgrounds are fine on their own, however the lighting system gives them a great sense of depth with the lighting coming from windows and light sources within the room and dynamic shadows based on your relative position to the light sources. The only thing I didn't really care for were the bosses, but I don't think most people will have the same reaction. The fact is the bosses are made of multiple sprites moving together like Wolfteam used to do, which is a look I've never been a fan of. The non-humanoid bosses, like the spider, look fine doing this but the more humanoid ones like the Werewolf and the True Final Boss just look awkward to me. Not a gamebreaker or anything, but something I personally disliked.

The gameplay is kind of a mixed bag. I liked the metroidvania elements fine enough, though I kind of prefer finding health upgrades around the map rather than the level-up system this game uses. I also kind of wish there were more attacks as just the fire and lightening spell for the whole game is a pretty limited arsenal for even a 3-5 hour game. The adventure game puzzles were alright and spiced things up for the most part. However, there were times when the game got unnecessarily obtuse towards the end. For example, there was a part where I needed to get acid and a container. I had several items which could serve as a container, but the game would only accept one particular item which is something you could find earlier in the game, but Belle refuses to take it for no reason and it's not something you would immediately think to use. There was a pool of boiling acid two rooms over from where you need to combine the items, but the game won't accept that acid. It wants a specific type of acid that I didn't even consider because it looked more like a background element than an interactible, and the room had so many hazards I wasn't focusing on it at all so I forgot about it completely. Plus, in an adventure game, you typically don't have much space to traverse if you missed an item or a puzzle step cause the areas are typically pretty condensed, but Mystik Belle being a metroidvania where what you need could be anywhere, even in an area you've already been to, kind of exacerbates the issue since you've have so much more distance to trek over. Thankfully most puzzles only require items, which are marked on the map, but for the instances like those above that don't follow the same rules the rest of the game does it can be a nightmare.

Mystik Belle is a game that I enjoyed, but also wished for more. The mechanics are solid for what they are and I do love the attitude and the charm of the game. One thing I neglected to mention is that a number of characters have custom sprites based on their changing circumstances which is a level of work that you don't see often even in the best metroidvanias. However, the gameplay was pretty basic overall and I would have liked some more avenues of progression. Thankfully it seems this game seems to be getting a sequel in the form of Winter Belle although darkfalzx has gone silent as of late.

A sweet little adventure with gorgeous pixel art animation, loveable characters, and a healthy amount of wacky humor. The action platforming side of things is a bit of a mixed bag - the movement controls are solid, and Belle's attacks and abilities are fun to use, but the enemy, boss, and level design can be a bit rough, and some quality of life features are missing. As for the point-and-click-style puzzles (not actually pointing and clicking, just picking up items in one place and finding a use for them elsewhere), they're mostly pretty simple except for a couple of somewhat unintuitive solutions. Overall a fun game with lots of love poured into it, just don't expect anything too sophisticated.

Absolute hidden gem. It's an amazing (and rare) mixture of Metroidvania and old-school adventure game.

Really clever and well designed, with very charming graphics, with one of the best pixel arts that I ever saw. The soundtrack is also very good.

Having played on hard, it provides a very good challenge with FANTASTIC boss battles. The spider boss was epic!

I can't recommend this game enough. Truly a hidden gem and one my favorite Metroidvania.

[b]Mystik Belle[/b] is an interesting mix of a metroidvania and a point & click adventure game, inspired by classic puzzle platformers such as Dizzy, Slightly Magic, Seymour etc. Yes, those really old games for ZX Spectrum. The author is a talented artist, and the pixel art is really good, and the game overall features pretty high production values for a solo project apparently completed in only a few months. And the chiptune soundtrack is also a joy to listen to.

Mechanically, it's a really simple game, you just spam your projectile attack and stay out of harm's way. As long as you're somewhat decent at action games you shouldn't really have any trouble beating bosses, although some of them do have rather strange hitboxes. But most of the difficulty comes from item puzzles. And oh boy, it's really a challenge. The game has dozens of items, many of them being red herrings. You can only carry 6 items on your person (well, really 5 because you're required to carry a certain item with you at all items) and 14 in the stash (accessed from chests scattered around the game's world). Once you accumulate even more items, you'll have to just drop them on the floor and hope you won't forget where you left them. Puzzle solutions are not always obvious and may require using multiple items at once, while there's only a few warp points in the whole game. All of this can lead to excessive backtracking, as you're running back and forth trying to crack the "moon logic" of the puzzles. I'll admit, I had to consult a guide 2 times, the first time my logic was sound, it's just I was using the item at a wrong spot, the second time I didn't realize I had to investigate a hotspot multiple times to finally be able to grab the item. The game will probably take about 4 hours to beat on your fist playthrough, but there's an achievement for finishing it in under an hour. The map is actually quite small, it just feels big because of lacking fast travel and large character/enemy sprites.

Overall, I recommend the game, but with a caveat. You really have to appreciate classic puzzle/adventure games to have any sort of fun with Mystik Belle. Otherwise, the start/stop progression of getting stuck on a puzzle and then finally solving it may drive you mad. The author is working on a sequel (check out [url=https://twitter.com/DarkFalzXL]his Twitter[/url]), and he's planning to do a whole series with Belle as the main heroine. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

This game has a great art style, awesome music, fun exploration, and a lot of charm. However, it also has a number of UI quirks and flaws that can make you mistakenly think you've got the wrong puzzle solution, poorly balanced combat (player ends up as a damage sponge), and some technical problems with joypads (solved with Qjoypad). minor graphics corruption, and other issues.

Overall reminds me of a childhood GBA game - Has a lot to like, but also a lot to dislike, and how much fun you have depends on how much the stuff you like speaks to you and the stuff you dislike annoys the crap out of you.

The art style for the game is pretty cute, however art assets aren't the only component of a game. The rest of it however, unfortunately, comes off as amateurish and unpolished. Save your money and get Axiom Verge instead, it does everything but the cartoony charm better than Mystik Belle does.

There's a series of reasons, mostly that it involves way too much backtracking and doesn't make any effort to lesson the backtracking by having a very minimalistic map that doesn't mark if a location has a particular item (or even that it has an item at all). Leading you to run smack into the problem of needing to read and play the game entirely through a gameplay guide in order to finish it without revisiting the room like 8 times in total, once or twice per mobility powerup you get.

It also wastes a lot of time with an unnecessary inventory management system, and having the correct item isn't automatically used when prompted. Your character does the archaic adventure game trope of "Gee, I wish I had this shovel in my hand right now" as you have a shovel in your inventory.

Most of the game's gameplay is fairly simplistic, you have a basic fireball attack that can be spammed for very minor amounts of damage, and at levels 4 and 8 you fire an additional shot. Later on you will get a charged attack that shoots a tiny spark of electricity that if it connects creates a short-term AOE damage effect where it struck. This however leads to a couple of issues: Lack of progression being one of them. Unlike games like Axiom Verge there's basically no weapon variety to be had. There's no collectibles to justify or enhance your backtracking as your progression is tied to how many enemies you kill now how well you explore.

The one variant attack you do get, the Electricity Spark, has a microscopic hitbox, and often misses enemies so you'll want to use your basic attack for most enemies. However, to give the undertuned electricity some purpose, the game's developers decided that if an enemy cannot be damaged by your fireball, it gets reflected back at you. Combined with bosses having small areas of vulnerability you get issues where your electricity attack will miss their critical spot, and your basic fire attack will cause you to take chip damage. This in combination with the character being rather large, and the environments being rather small vastly reduces your ability to avoid attacks. All of these together turns the damage into one big damage race, do big damage and kill the enemy before the enemy can chip down your HP bar. This is exasperated to the nth degree when you enter a boss fight. Games like Axiom Verge will usually make boss rooms quite big ans spacious to allow for a more satisifying boss encounter, but Mystik Belle does not do this.

In summary, if you want the experience of playing Mystik Belle, watch someone else play it. You'll get all the cartoons charm without the hair pulling design.

I was worried how this game would be after the reviews complaining about inventory juggling and bad feeling, but I still took the chance on it, and I'm glad I did. Yes, inventory is small, but it's manageable, and as long as you're not playing on hard, there's always a storage chest nearby. I never had issues with jumping or health management either. The main sprite is unnaturally large and that takes some getting used to, but all in all, the game is still an enjoyable exploration platformer.

Previously, en Manqueando... "Shadow complex remastererererererered" que fue una muy grata sorpresa.
Y en el episodio de hoy de Manqueando... "Mystik Belle"

Interesante jueguecito este. Un metroidvania corto y sencillo. No muy dificil, aunque tampoco chupado.

A nuestra protagonista, una bruja, la han acusado de estropear una poción que es muy importante para cosas que no voy a contar. Su castigo es reunir los ingredientes necesarios para volver a hacerla antes de que algo ocurra.

Para ello, contaremos con una varita mágica con la que lanzaremos nuestros ataques, y una escoba que nos sirve de adorno. Conforme vayamos avanzando, iremos consiguiendo nuevos hechizos (o habilidades) que nos permitirán explorar Hogwar... esto... la escuela de magia en la que nos encontramos.

Lo primero a destacar, es que el juego es corto. Bastante corto. De hecho, hay un trofeo por hacertelo en menos de una hora. De modo que si buscais algo que os dure un tiempo, seguid buscando.

La mayor pega que puedo encontrarle es que el tamaño de las cosas en general es demasiado grande para lo que suelen ser estos juegos. Igual si la cámara estuviese un poco más lejos, seria mejor. Muy opinable, por supuesto.

En segundo lugar, comentaré algunas cosas que en principio no, pero conforme avanzas, se pueden hacer cansinas.
-El mapa. La única manera de verlo entero es cuando vas a un teletransporte, el resto del tiempo solo ves una pequeña fracción en la esquina superior derecha.
-El inventario, que es muy limitado. Esto en principio no es tanto problema, ya que los cofres para dejar objetos (todos conectados como los baules de resident evil) son bastante abundantes. Sin embargo, lo que ya es una c*gada, es que esos cofres tienen tambien espacio limitado, con lo que cuando te atasques (que lo harás), acabarás volviendote loco para ver como te lo montas para no dejar objetos por ahi tirados por todo el mapa (no desaparecerán, que conste).

Que tú tengas capacidad limitada lo entiendo, ¿pero el cofre? Al final, se hace cansino volver una y otra vez a uno de esos cofres para volver a cambiar los objetos a ver si das con la combinación adecuada.

Por que eso es una de las cosas que tiene buenas el juego (y a la vez mala si no estás preparado o acostumbrado), y es que no hay ni tutorial ni nada. Ni descripción de objetos, ni menús complejos. Coges una esfera verde, por ejemplo. Y esa esfera verde tendrás que utilizarla en alguna parte para hacer algo con ella, pero la información que tienes es esta: "Esfera verde". Y así con todos los items. Lo cual te obliga a pensar en que objetos valen para que cosa.

Y esto estaria bien, pero el problema es que las cosas no tienen por que combinar como pareciera "lógico" en un principio. Y como no tienes ningun tipo de consejo, tutorial, descripción ni nada, pues es más que probable atascarse en alguno de los puzzles, los cuales si no resuelves, no podrás avanzar, claro.

Pero eso es todo lo que le he podido sacar de "malo". Nada que me haya parecido grave. Si, atascarse molesta y al rato te puedes aburrir, pero en general, el juego es bastante entretenido, tiene una música muy cuca, y los pixels son de calidad. El control tambien es bueno.

Ah, que no se me olvide. El juego es bastante lento, pero tiene un modo turbo en las opciones, que os recomiendo encarecidamente activeis, ya que es la manera de que la velocidad del juego sea la adecuada. No me pregunteis, desconozco la lógica detras de esto, pero sin turbo... es leeeeento.

Y sin mucho más que decir, le voy a dar un 7, y lo recomiendo.

Y en el próximo episodio de Manqueando... una vez más, no lo sé, pensaba que este duraria más. Hasta que lo decida... stay tuned for new updates!

옛날 아케이드게임을 연상케하는 그래픽이라 굉장히 정감가고 귀여운데 이런 아기자기한 그래픽뿐아니라 불편한 조작성과 불친절함도 함께 가져왔습니다.. 전투가 어려운편도 아니고 퍼즐요소도 열심히 돌아다니면서 NPC에게 말걸고하면 알아내는데 어려움은 없지만 지도가 정말 정말 불편합니다 한번 가봤던 곳이더라도 어디에 뭐가있고 누가있고 못가는곳이었는지 인지가 바로되지않아요 거진 어디쯤에 누가있고 어떤물건이 있었는지 스스로 기억할수밖에 없어요 계속 뺑이돌다보면 헤매는게 짜증나서라도 외우게되긴한데요.. 길찾기로 쉽게 고통받는분들에게는 이 부분때문에 쉽게 추천하기가 좀 망설여져요 꼭 참고하세요

단점도 있지만 저는 게임스타일이 맞아서 잘 플레이했기에 추천누릅니다

К сожалению хоть платформер я ещё переварил, к управлению в конце концов приноровился, элементы квеста заценил, хоть и несколько напрягся с излишней «клоачности» текста, но бесконечные враги меня вымораживают. Так что не срослось.

Попрыгал немного в этом клоне Хогвартса, затравил какой-то цветок ради вонючего листка, чтобы приманить им мух к кухарке для её отвлечения с целью стибрить немножко фольги и утомился в среде Ubuntu 18.04 на ноутубке со встроенной видеокарточкой Intel® HD Graphics 4400.

A mostly simple metroidvania with cartoony graphics and straightforward gameplay, though some of the puzzles feel very odd in terms of which items are needed, while others are very obvious.

It's short, but has multiple endings, so there is SOME replay. I would recommend it, provided you get it on sale, otherwise the value isn't really there.

Mistik Belle é um jogo de ação e aventura 2D sidescroller com foco em exploração e resolução de puzzles procurando itens chave para prosseguir com a história.
Isso resume bem o jogo por enquanto e agora vou fazer uma sinopse: você é uma bruxinha que vive numa escola internato de bruxas e é acusada injustamente de destruir a poção da walpurgisnacht(seria o evento anual mais importante delas) e precisa recuperar todos os ingredientes antes da noite acabar para evitar sua expulsão da escola.
Tendo o contexto estabelecido, você é deixado para explorar o grande território da escola de bruxaria, conversar com personagens e usar itens(que podem estar com ainda outros personagens) para poder conseguir prosseguir na história. Essa dinâmica é muito semelhante aos jogos Adventure point'n click, porém não se resume a isso. No seu caminho você encontrará monstrinhos que combaterá usando tiros de sua varinha mágica, ao derrotar os inimigos você ganhará xp que vão aumentar seu level e melhorar sua força de combate.
O jogo em sua maior parte oferece um desafio justo e puzzles as vezes não tão simples mas muito divertidos de resolver, considero a maioria bem intuitiva! Acho a arte simplesmente bela, cenários bem detalhados, design dos personagens muito legal. O jogo não demora muitas horas para terminar mas com certeza é um belo passatempo, bem único e com personalidade.
Recomendado se você gosta de explorar, realizar puzzles estilo point'n click mas com elementos de plataforma e combate no meio disso.

If you like point and click games and metroidvania games...mashing them both together into one can only be good! Or it creates an annoying mess.

It's not even that the core idea of the game is bad, they just chose to keep the worst parts of either genre and implement them poorly ontop of it.

Here comes the list of issues:

Health. There are no healing items, instead the enemies drop random hp pickups. Which means you are never at risk of dying to normal enemies but you probably aren't gonna be full hp either traversing the rooms. Which means when a boss fight jumps at you, you have to do it with half hp. And I mean 'jump' as there is no indication that the next room contains a boss.

Bosses. The game has a really uneven flow. Early you don't have any bosses to fight, then suddenly you fight 3 in quick succession with each giving you a power that lets you reach the next one. And the bosses are really annoying to fight. Your move set is very limited and you have to fight them in tiny rooms with no cover. Try doing bullet hell with a tiny slow jump.

Inventory. The game is fundamentally flawed as you have a limited inventory for your point and click items that drop everywhere. So that means when the moon logic comes into the game you can't easily just use every object on every other like you normally would. Instead you have to run back and forth to chests and switch it out. It also clashes with the metroidvania as you never know if you cant progress because you are missing a new metroidvania power or because you are missing the bonkers logic of what item to use.

Level. You don't have normal consumable items or equipment but you can still grind for XP, hurray! Random levelups make you stronger with better attacks, although you have no idea when that happens as there is no stats screen ingame. Love that the one mechanic they chose to keep, is the grind.

Platforming. Yes, the fundamental part of the game is also broken. Your jump feels really bad to use. There are a lot of jumps that look impossible with your tiny jump but instead you have to slightly walk off the platform so your character looks like floating next to the platform and then jump. Then you barely can make these jumps. Also there are moving platforms that desynch after a while. Very fun if you go up to the clock tower the first time because that jump is very awkward and if you fall then you have traverse a giant area again to get back to the place where you jump. There is an elevator there but you can only use it after you got an item from the top so f you.

Last point: Raccoons. The biggest f you in the game are enemies that can steal your items. There also is no audio or text cue that they did that so I missed it the first time it happened. I had to look up how to get the item back as there is no ingame clue what you are supposed to do then. That's what I call game design. The game lacks feedback in a lot of areas. For instance all enemies die when they touch you, dealing damage in the progress. Problem is they have the same explosion effect if you kill them by shooting at them. So it is hard to distinguish if you killed an enemy or it hit you without constantly staring at your health.

It is almost a good game. But there are too many fundamental design flaws to give this a recommendation.

This has soul like you wouldn't believe.
Great spritework, animations, fantastic lighting effects and really entertaining dialogue. The music in the underwater part is also a real banger.
I don't really get the extent of the complaints about the puzzles in this one. Once you figure out you can use items with the school dumpster to find out if they're useless (this sounds ridiculous but I love it; the dumpster dunk animation is sick), and if you keep items in a few easy-to-reach spots for when you need them, they aren't too hard to figure out.

I really just can't believe this little gem of a game is _this_ unpopular. It's such a shame.

Are you looking for a fun Metroidvania? This is the game for you.
It's a nicely paced game, with the awesome sense of strengthening we all know and love from all Castlevania from SotN foward, starting by the fact that your fire magic will get stronger as you level up.

Also it has a nice sense of humor and has lots of creative puzzles, such as the big frogs you'll have to take down so you can put flies on the kitchen lady.
Also the boss battles have a nice difficulty curve which turns them awesome, yet somehow they can be pretty funny.
The OST is pretty catchy and also gives you the feeling of playing a Castlevania game but without losing its own essence,
The enemies are pretty creative, like the skeleton butterflies that ressemble (to say the least) the Bitterflies from SotN.

Btw, i loved the Breaking Bad reference! hahaha

Anyways, if you're looking for a cool Metroidvania, this guy will fill it your needs with flying colors and it's most certainly worth a shot.
The down-side is that the game is pretty short, but the fun you'll have don't.

Some of the earliest games I played were Sierra Adventure games. As a child I thought the puzzle solutions were clever, and the idea using the tools you’re limited to in unusual ways has always pervaded the way I think about game design and how I approach games. In many ways, that out-of-the-box thinking isn’t too far removed from what makes the Metroidvania genre appealing, so combining Metroidvania with the point-and-click adventure game genre seems like a natural fit. [i]Mystik Belle[/i] is a strong example of how well this can work. It’s not nearly as challenging as something like [i]La-Mulana[/i], as its puzzles lean more towards item hunting and heavily hinted applications rather than critical thinking and riddle solving. But, it works very well as a charming entry point into either genre depending on which side of the hybridization you’re familiar with.

The Metroidvania aspect of the game is fairly standard – but fun. If you stripped out all of the puzzle elements and left only the exploration, you’d have a fairly competent mini-Metroidvania; one that isn’t too challenging, but also not frustrating. It’s the kind of candy gameplay that makes for a relaxing evening. Your main attack is to spam fireballs, so wandering around the halls is a matter of button mashing your way through whatever random ghouls and ghosts happen to be in your way. You can also whack enemies with your wand at close range, and this surprisingly seems to do the most damage. Later on you get a charge attack that mixes things up [i]a little[/i], but outside of bosses it’s generally better to just mash away. Enemies are never a major nuisance even if they’re not particularly interesting. Occasionally the game’s cool looking pixel lighting effects can be frustrating as you bumble around dark areas wondering if there’s a platform off in the distance. Overall though the action aspect of the game is pretty basic entertainment – with perhaps just enough twitch reaction skill required to keep the more hardcore adventure fans away.

Exploration is either enhanced or bogged down by the puzzle aspect. While you do find the ability upgrades that allow you to get through gates that are the hallmark of the Metroidvania genre, your main goal is to find inventory items to deposit into their respective puzzle locations. Like many 90s adventure games, the way you use these items is either clever or obtuse depending on your attitude toward the game defining its own rules of physics or how objects should interact. Thankfully, since [i]Mystik Belle[/i] takes place in a school, there are a lot of teachers and fellow students more than willing to fill you in on what those rules are. This allows the game to heavily hint at what you’re supposed to do next, but it also means that if you’re diligent in talking to everyone the puzzles quickly become more similar to an MMORPG fetch quest situation rather than a riddle you’re solving on your own. While that aspect is at your election, one annoying thing the game does is disallow you to collect certain items until some events have passed. If you try to pick up some background objects your main character will say “I have no reason to pick that up” only for her to change her mind sometime down the road. I personally wrote off several items like that as not being part of the game only to waste tens of minutes wandering around until I randomly tried it again.

Perhaps in an attempt to force the player to think about how they use their inventory, rather than just trying everything on everything, they also force an item limit on what you can carry, along with a pile of red herring items that don’t do anything at all. That “brush every object with every item” strategy that adventure game critics love to bring up is still viable with [i]Mystik Belle’s[/i] rules, it just takes a heck of a lot longer. Personally I think it’s a little unnecessary since the game will usually just tell you what to do if you ask around enough; and there doesn’t seem to be any achievement or penalty to persuade you to do otherwise (other than the speed run that requires you to know exactly what to do and route it anyway.)

[i]Mystik Belle[/i] is ultimately a fun if not mostly simplistic take on either genre it’s trying to be. It’s got a charming – albeit also simplistic – story to uncover, and none of its aspects are going to be overly challenging regardless of where you’re coming from as a gamer. I think if you’re a fan of only one of the two genres, it makes for a pretty decent entry point if you’re looking to cross over – although my top pick for first Metroidvania is still going to be [i]Symphony of the Night[/i]. If you’re looking into branching into much harder riddle-based games like [i]La-Mulana[/i] though, this will give you a fairly decent taste of what to expect. It’s also fairly short, making it a very good pick if you just want an atmospheric game to try for the Halloween season.

Sadly on Steam I can't put anything except "Recommend" or "Not recommend", but game as it is I can't recommend it. The only thing I really like in this game it's it artdesign (Neat and cute. Love it) and that's all. Sounds and tracks are pretty "meh", not bad, but nothing good either. Plot and world building sucks. I like most of the characters, but screw these hags and that stupid ninja. (oh, God! I hate her!) True ending smb as well, it was some random ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Levelling in this game ends too fast and it's very unsatisfactory experience, at some point I was just skipping the monsters to save some time, bc killing them was pointless. Platforming is bad (as I see*) and f hate it, especially some moving platforms with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ timings. Level design itself nothing much either.\ Btw, there are some moments in levels is just to f with player and waste his time. (It was really burdensome and annoying.) At some point I wasn't playing, I was just finishing the game. Beating it.

P.S. Even with all my negativity, I'm still gonna buy next game from this developer (Style and art were just that good to me) and I really-rally hope it's gonna be way better. Ofc if he's gonna make it/release it.

+ Overall very charming and fun.
+ Wonderful detailed pixel graphics.
+ Varied and unrepetitive assets. Many kinds of enemies occur in only one room.
+ Developer addressed many complaints in past negative reviews by upping item limit, introducing an easy mode and a dedicated dash button.
+ Linux port.
+ Неправильные пчелы.

- Dash mechanics are still not obvious - no indication or explanation when dashing will work or not. Until the player figures this out, platforming can be frustrating.
- HP/damage is maxed out quite early in the game, with no significant upgrades thereafter.

Mystik Belle is a good metroidvania focused more on exploration and puzzle solving. Sure, there are dozens of enemy types, but most of their behavior consists in being either a "medusa head" or moving up and down and shooting the same projectile. As you level up, you increase your maximum HP and improve your main attack. Thats basically it for combat, apart from some extra mobility skills.

As for the puzzles, they revolve around finding certain objects and traveling through the map with these objects. Reading the dialogs is very important to solve these puzzles. The fact that your inventory is limited is crucial to the pacing of the game and overall fun, because it stops you from grabing every item and using them on a specific character or part of the map. This makes you think a little about what items are relevant to a certain situation.

Graphically, it's very clear that the developer wanted to showcase his light engine and it's truly nice. The sprites are really good (I love the massive aspect of them and the fake transparency effect), but the animations are very simple. The game could also use a longer soundtrack.

Overall, it's a good game, although short (you can 100% and get all the achievements in one playthrough of 5 ~ 7 hours). I recommend waiting for a discount.

Un metroidvania con un sistema de objetos parecido a Resident Evil 0 (puedes soltarlos en cualquier parte del mapa y nunca desaparecen) diseñado de forma para optimizar speedruns conforme conoces a sus divertidos personajes. Además, el modo difícil te quita el sillín de seguridad prohibiendo el uso de baules y con enemigos más dañinos, sin duda una divertida propuesta de videojuego.

Mystik Belle is a quirky blend of action/platformer with adventure elements (looking for objects to solve puzzles that block your way). The game is fairly short and on the easy side of the scale, however, there is an additional difficulty to select (not worthy imo).

All in all this is a fun game so try it if you like these genres! There is a sequel planned, let's hope that with more money and experience the team can get an even better game.

A cute adventure-metroidvania, but the concept is stronger than the execution.

Mystik Belle has lovely art and animation, cute, boppy music, and the great premise of setting a metroidvania in a witch school full of adventure game puzzles. I *loved* the adventure aspects of this game, but the meat of the platforming gameplay was rather weak by comparison. There isn't a lot of strong level or enemy design, the challenges tend to be inconvenient rather than difficult, and the movement doesn't have that innately satisfying feeling of weight and momentum that makes traversing areas fun in and of itself. For the most part I felt like the platforming and combat were hurdles in between the fun adventure bits, but that smoothed itself out as I got access to more upgrades and mobility tools to spice it up a bit.

Overall I had fun with Mystik Belle just for the adventure parts and its lovely presentation. Had the devs leaned into the puzzles and downplayed the platforming and combat I think this could've been a genuinely fantastic experience, since I'm dying to play more cute adventure games set in magic academies. Figuring out which items to use where, exploring to discover new things, and tracking down NPCs to find hints were all delightful experiences. It's just a shame that the gameplay feels very dry by comparison. There's a light arcadey sense of enjoyment to be gotten out of tossing fireballs at everything as a witch, but nothing much deeper than that.

Give this one a look if you're interested in something cute and pretty with classic adventure game puzzles to enjoy, but if you're looking for more robust platforming gameplay then I might give it a miss. The game has a very cool premise, though, and I'd love to see more developers take a crack at something like this in the future.

Если говорить серьезно то игра более чем достойная. Талантливое сочетание метройдвании с классическими платформенными квестами. Но как всегда есть плюсы и минусы.
Плюсы:
1) Игре удается создать атмосферу настоящей школы волшебства. Парадокс но ни одна из игр про всем известного Гарри на мой взгляд не смогла создать такой атмосферы. Mystik Belle с этой задачей справилась превосходно. Как итог можно заключить Хагмор лучше Хогвартса.
2) Раскрытие персонажей. Хоть персонажей относительно немного, и диалогов с ними мало, но они раскрываются в полной мере. Я бы даже рекомендовал эту игру людям изучающим сценарное ремесло и нарративный дизайн как пример качественно сделанной работы. Персонажи раскрываются через конфликт, подаются с юмором, острят, вставляют колкости. Из одного диалога становится ясно какие отношения между персонажами были, есть и возможно будут.
3) Приятная графика тех старых добрых 16-битных времен. Если вы любите ретро игры времен Sega и SNES то эта игра будет просто бальзамом на душу.
Минусы:
1) Немного деревянное управление и заторможенный геймплей. Это лично мои впечатления.
2) Ограниченный инвентарь, будь в нем буквально на пару позиций больше играть было бы удобнее.
3) Самый большой минус — вторичность. Новаторского в игре нет. Все элементы позаимствованы и уже множество раз встречались в других играх.

Как итог могу сказать что плюсы лично для меня значительно перевешивают. И мне очень жалко, что до сих пор у такой прекрасной игры нет достойного продолжения.

I originally found out about this game because I was watching for the Legend of Iya on Greenlight and Kickstarter. The spritework is really amazing and one of the highlights of the game. The gameplay is kind of a Metroidvania-lite. You have a hard level cap of about 8 and have minor improvements to your stats as you play. There is also the inclusion of 'adventure game'-style puzzles that differentiate this title from other Metroidvanias.
However, similar to a lot of the adventure game puzzles, Mystik Belle is about 50-50 on whether they are logical or completely off-the-wall as to their solution. The amount of blind backtracking required throughout the game will have to clamoring for a guide to figure out what ridiculous thing you are supposed to do next. I think if the level design was a bit more like a traditional Metroidvania where obvious barricades were in place, this wouldn't be such a problem. But you can easily get lost in many different directions early on until you make enough mistakes to figure out which path to go on. However, this is not FUN! Running around aimlessly is the least fun thing you can program into your game, which is a shame because the gameplay for Mystik Belle is quite good. It's just that you don't get to experience that while you are doing horrid backtracking. Maybe Legend of Iya will be better. I also realized that this is the same developer as Ultionus, so maybe I won't hold my breath that Iya will be a grand improvement on level design.

Ever wish Harry Potter was a 2D platformer? That's kind of what you get here. I was initially drawn to this game by the cute little witch girl (one of my favourite themes), and was pleasantly surprised to find that it falls into my favourite genre, too!

I would primarily describe this as a Metroidvania (and I even picked up on a few blatant nods to fans of the two), but it features inventory-based puzzle elements as well. It reminds me heavily of [url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/200900/]Cave Story[/url], because of the aforementioned mechanics, plus the intense shooting action, levelling, chiptune music, character interactions, pacing, etc. (On that note, also reminds me in part of [url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/237740/]Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures[/url].)

Oh, and the graphics are terrific. Beautiful pixel art, plus some fancy lighting effects. And, although not something I ordinarily consciously miss, there is something really nice about having the player character so large on the screen.

Additional thanks to the developer not only for making this charming game (pun intended), but also for so actively helping me troubleshoot my initial issues getting started. This is the very sort of chap I aspire to be.

Hidden gem territory here!

This is a beautiful-looking, cute-as-hell, challenging little metroidvania - with added object puzzles a-la the Dizzy series of games from Codemasters (especially Slightly Magic, if anyone remembers that!). The characters and dialogue are charming, the sheer volume of monsters and scenic variety is staggering for a game this size, and the item puzzles are often nicely chin-scratching but never unreasonable.

I would highly recommend playing the game on Hard mode, if you like a little challenge and don't mind retracing your steps (often quite a bit), because it gives a bit more gravity to the game and consequences for dying. The 'floaty' platforming that people seemed to dislike has been fixed by a fast option, and the inventory juggling is a rather nice restriction when you look at it a certain way - it means you can't just endlessly rub items off one another, hoping for a result, and actually have to decide which items are worth trekking back for. Also, you can just start stashing them in warp rooms :)

In short, a joyous little romp through a charming universe that made me chuckle with joy quite a bit while playing - terrific for fans of indie Metroidvanias who are looking for something creepy, cute, and fun.

I really enjoyed the game. Love the artwork, good enough music, great dialogue, the main character is super adorable and the other characters are fun too.

It's a mix of metroidvania with point and click adventure which I think is a great combination. It would be fun to have more games like this.

The character controller is tight, very responsive and direct and is a great example of what a character controller should be in a platformer. Adding wall jump, float and ledge grab would have made it perfect.

I think that the game could use a better combat system e.g. being able to attack upwards, having a stomp attack and additional secondary skills perhaps with an RPG skill point system like Super Panda Adventures.

I also think that everything is too zoomed in. It would have been much better if Belle took up less screen space with everything else being more zoomed out (about as much screen space as Fu takes up in Super Panda Adventures would have been perfect). As it is, everything feels too cramped, especially all the boss fights where there is no way to avoid damage and so all boss fights become a button mashing exercise where the objective is to deliver as much damage as possible before dying to hopefully get the kill.

It would have also been great to have a more detailed map that reflected the true space of each area with a marker system where we can put custom markers to mark points of interest on the map to come back to later like in Hollow Knight.

All in all though, well worth the 8 to 10 hours of play time for such a charming little game.

Cute Castlevania with great visual craftsmanship and a somewhat clumsy plot item situation

Rather than working your way through the castle on a mission to confront an incredibly powerful final boss, your objective is to retrieve plot items and bring them back to headquarters. The journey is similar, though, as your progress is linear (with a lot of backtracking) and there are boss fights at key moments in advancement.

Your standard attack is ranged and unlimited. If you get within melee range of a standard enemy, you can deliver a one-hit-kill. Over the course of the game, you earn various upgrades for attacks and mobility. There is no combat equipment to manage. You can increase your level up to 8; raising your max health and powerup up your standard attack.

The player sprite (and hitbox) takes up a substantial amount of screen, so a lot of areas feel claustrophobic. Thankfully, most regular enemies get destroyed if they manage to touch you, and there is no knockback. Many areas contain medusahead-style enemies that pass through walls and spawn endlessly from the sides of the screen, even spawning in the doorway as you're about to pass through. Even though contact damage is tolerable, it can still be a nuisance. The game is quite forgiving about enemies dropping small instant health refills, and one of your upgrades allows you to magnetize the refills toward you.

Platforming is straightforward but sometimes a bit clumsy. There are several jumps that require very strangely precise placement and timing, and missing them can mean an annoying backtrack to get into position for another attempt. The map contains a number of warp-mirror rooms to allow fast-travel, which helps prevent having to repeat some of the frustrating parts. If you die in standard mode, you can begin in the same room (with the same health you had when you entered), or you can choose to warp all the way back to the starting area.

Plot items are very hit-or-miss. Some items function as obstacle removal; others are simply delivered to NPCs; others must be combined in a MacGyver fashion (most of these combinations are logical and reasonably intuitive). Each major story objective item is the culmination of a long chain of item use/combination followed by a boss fight. For some reason, you can only carry six items at a time (effectively five items, as you're expected to keep one specific item in your pocket throughout the entire game), but there are remote storage chests scattered throughout the map. For some reason, a bunch of the items are literally trash and serve no purpose other than to be thrown into a dumpster for an achievement. Many of them are tucked away like plot-essential items, so it's not obvious which objects are a waste of pocket space, and it's very confusing during the first playthrough.

There is an optional final boss that you can fight if you manage 100% collection. This final fight introduces completely different combat mechanics with no real explanation, and it feels like a clumsy punchline rather than a climax. It's worth an achievement, but other than that it feels unnecessary.

Hard Mode makes the game no fun at all. Damage numbers are understandably less favorable, but also there are no storage chests, and every death sends you back to the very first room.

If you're not paying attention, you might not notice the well-crafted lighting effects. Light sources (including your own fireballs) cast shadows against the background and light up your sprite. Animations are smooth with plenty of frames, and while most of the characters get little-to-no development (or even screentime), their designs provide plenty of charm.

With the exception of the changes present in Hard Mode, I had a good time with this game, and I would recommend it to anybody who wants a more light-hearted Castlevania (although some of the dialogue is teen-and-up).

I loved this game! It's a mix of Metroidvania and point-and-click games, and while I usually look upon point-and-clicks with disdain due to how much they're built around trial and error, these puzzles are implemented in a sensible manner for once! The sprite art and animation are fantastic, the ability to store items in warp chests helps with the limited inventory quite a lot, and the game's sense of humor is excellent. A very enjoyable game, and one I will definitely return to. Highly recommend!

Cute little adventure game. Harkens primarily to old point and click adventure games, where your gameplay loop will primarily be about talking to NPCs, and attempting to solve puzzles with items. Metroidvania, and already nebulous and useless term, doesn't really sell the appeal of this game. This is closer to King's Quest than Metroid or Castlevania.

Well produced, but honestly a little clogged by trying to appeal to the notions of "Metroidvania". Combat is incredibly secondary and more of a tool to extend gameplay time. Boss fights fall under this as well, and are pretty underwhelming. I kinda wish this game didnt bother with the combat at all. While the traveling through separate environments is a strong tool for building a sincerely developed environment, the intrusive combat just makes me wish this was just a point and click game.

Despite shortcomings that feel intrusive, there's a lot of effort put in on plenty of other fronts. I dug it.

Beautiful pixel art and an interesting gameplay idea which is a mix of metrovania and point and click adventure style games, it was often difficult to figure out where on the map I was supposed to go and what item I needed and there were sone annoying things but I still enjoyed the game, there are a lot of things I wished were better but it wasn't bad and it was unique.

(I played in italian and the translation was really bad though)

Bueno por fin terminé el juego, tanto el final bueno, como el final verdadero, solo quiero decir que lo disfrute mucho conserva la misma escencia que Shantae, a pesar de q son diferentes desarrolladores. sin más que decir tardé unas 7 horas en completar el juego, pero llevé a la protagonista al máximo nivel, solo me faltaron 2 logros por sacar, el de nunca dejar la manzana atrás y el de speedrunner porque claramente no tengo intención en terminar el juego en 1 hora. porque lo terminé sin guías así que me pasé sus buenas horas buscando que era lo que hacía mal o que item me faltaba para avanzar, espero mucho de este desarrollador, ojala pronto saques otro juego.

Mystik Belle is a rather curious action adventure platformer. Unlike what you might think in the first few moments, it isn't really a metroidvania in a traditional sense (although it is about exploration and upgrades), neither is it trying to emulate fast paced action platformers and even in it's visual style it isn't really going for something emulating 16-bit consoles, but rather this feels like an evolution of the adventure platformers from the personal computers of late 80s-mid 90s. Sure, you do explore, find new upgrades and fight bosses, but most of your time you spend on thinking how to use items and plan inventory to achieve your current goal. Which you would do by talking to people and running back and forth in a gradually opening game world.

Which might sound boring, and there are moments when it is, but most of the time the game actually conveys what it wants and where you should look for it pretty well. And the look and style of the game never fails to amuse as well - there are so many cute little enemies, some of which may be unique to just one room in the entire game. The tone of the game is inconsistent a bit, though, sometimes seriously straying off it's usually kid-friendly story and dialogue, and I'm still confused as to why this was made. But other than that, and some rather frustrating moments during few boss fights, Mystik Belle is a really nice game to play.
