Used to play this game all the time when I was a kid. It still holds up for me in a lot of ways! Primarily, the soundtrack is still amazing, with a story intricate enough to be engaging even today. However, this all comes from a self-proclaimed enthusiast of any point-and-click adventure game from the early aughts. It just has that lovable charm for me from that era.

Relaxing nostalgia trip.
A wonderful game, whose polish and shine hasn't rubbed away over the years. The atmosphere is flawlessly downcast, accompanied by a phenomenal soundtrack; While the game's puzzles and object scenes are interesting enough to use your brain to a satisfying degree. (With optional hint/skip button just in case.)
Even without the previous plot, the story tells itself to a capacity of understanding for a one-off playthrough to make sense.
The journal is really detailed too, I enjoyed looking through it.

I didn't encounter any issues when playing this, but be aware after closing the game, your display resolution will need to be changed back to your preference in "display settings", if you're running a recent windows version. It also takes a while to fully shut down after closing, but it hasn't crashed, no need to worry (probably).

This is a fun hidden object/puzzle/mystery game in the Ravenhearst story line for Mystery Case Files. I would recommend playing Ravenhearst and Madame Fate before playing this game, but they aren't 100% necessary as the story gives enough detail to catch people up to speed. There are some darker themes to the story, so I would recommend this for those 13+.

I absolutely love this game! This is such a throwback since I originally had this game on a disc so many years ago. the puzzles and visuals still hold up to this day, in my opinion, and don't look terribly dated. The gameplay is fun and thrilling, and it's absolutely one of my favorite game soundtracks to date. This is wonderful.

It's a nice revisit to Ravenhearst. The game works well in Windows 11. It does take a minute or two to load the game and begin playing. Exiting the game can take up to five minutes to fully come to a stop, and your screen resolution will be left at 800x600 or other, so you will have to manually reset the screen resolution when quitting the game. Otherwise, I found no bugs or other problems with the game running under Windows 11.

I played this game as a child on my dad's computer when he had the disk (and desktops HAD discs... this was a looooooooong time ago) and have since played it at least 12 times throughout my life. The puzzles are engaging, the art it beautiful and incredibly spooky. It does occupy your mind between not only finding the items but also thinking about what kind of item it is (they can be tricky with words like 'bat' and there are different versions of 'phone') and the puzzles can be interesting. I will say that sometimes they can be frustrating (the peacock puzzle and 'whack-a-troll' specifically) but you always have the option to skip them. The storyline is interesting and the detective/narrator is sassy. To me, this game is nostalgia and something that I will always come back to.

Return To Ravenhearst is the fifth game in the Mystery Case Files series, but it is the first game with an adventure aspect! I have taken a MCF journey replaying the series back-to-back, and it's mind-blowing to see the transformation of a HOG to a HOPA!

[b]Mystery Case Files: Huntsville[/b] was the first game in the series—in fact, it was the first hidden object game ever created!
[b]Fun Fact:[/b] The Master Detective was a female character in the earlier versions.

[b]Mystery Case Files: Prime Suspects[/b] hit the ground running. Fans couldn't get enough of this new genre, and the numbers don't lie. On the day of its release, Big Fish Studios reported record-breaking sales of 3.3 games per minute!

[b]Mystery Case Files: Ravenhearst[/b] introduced us to the Dalimar legacy for the first time as we searched the rooms of Charles Dalimar's Mansion, affectionately referred to as "The House That Love Built." More importantly, Ravenhearst introduced us to the infamous Rube Goldberg Door Puzzles, which drove us as insane as their creator, Charles Dalimar!
[b]Fun Fact:[/b] The address for Ravenhearst Manor was 7217 Darkwood Lane...somewhere near Blackpool, England.

[b]Mystery Case Files: Madame Fate[/b] introduced animations and Hot Spot Zoom Zones. It also introduced one of my favorite features, Morphing Objects!

[b]Mystery Case Files: Return To Ravenhearst[/b] was the game that changed the way we play games. For the first time, players roam freely throughout the Manor at their own pace. Maps have not yet been introduced in the series (I kind of dig the old-school ways). You'll be doing a lot of back-and-forth traveling on your own two virtual feet, and it's easy to forget which path leads where, especially toward the end of the game when all the doors have been unlocked.

We now have an Inventory bar to save items we find, most of which are still found in Hidden Object Scenes.

The Zoom Zones have tasks that may require multiple steps to complete, and you may have to revisit that task at a later point once all the necessary items have been found. We have a Journal that takes a snapshot of all the clues we encounter (as well as story progression finds). These clues are not solutions...they are just that, clues! It's up to you and your grey matter to decipher the clues and figure out how and where to apply them.

My only complaint was that they didn't have Morphing Objects.

I have played thousands of HOPAs over the years and witnessed the slow and steady decline of the genre as developers added convenience features that ultimately made the games foolproof. The player no longer has the ability to roam freely; to make matters worse, they added a feature that allows us to jump to any available location with the click of a button. Playable scenes are limited to 3-4 scenes as previous locations are locked behind us. They keep driving us forward like cattle in a chute. Remembering codes and clues are a thing of the past now as Post-it sticky notes with the correct solutions are slapped above the puzzle at lightning speed.

[b]Return To Ravenhearst[/b] may not have all the bells and whistles of the modern-day HOPA...yet. However, if you are like me and are saddened by the genre's decline caused by all those bells & whistles, please, take my advice and revisit the Mystery Case Files series from the beginning. I have replayed many of my favorites in the MCF series, but I have never played them consecutively, one after the other. I'm just amazed by the transformation as I see new features unfolding game by game, features that we now take for granted!

A very grim and gripping backstory, a lot of antique creepcore visuals - the puzzle systems are really tricky, but the navigation of the separate parts of the property was a bit more intuitive.
The progression of puzzles and clues however is quite satisfying, be careful though, even if the clues used in the scenes are revealed, they are not always intuitive and you don't always use them immediately.
All in all, a great sequel to a great 90s throwback.

The largest detriment/con is that this game, the original MCF Ravenhearst, and the original MCF Madame Fate all run in 800x600 resolution, which can be a huge turn off for most modern players. My fixes were to use Windows Magnifier and saved pictures from an online guide from another source (used Windows Photo Viewer to really magnify things). I can only assume this could also be compounded by the fact that most modern gamers have multiple monitor set-ups.

Another con is that some of the door puzzles don't make a lot of sense, and don't even try Whack-A-Troll if you don't have the reflexes of a much younger gamer.

All of that said - this game is a LOT creepier than I remember it being, and still is a fantastic sequel to the original Ravenhearst and Madame Fate, especially if you enjoy HOGs/HOAs. Yes, some of the dialogue is dated (and don't get me started on how ridiculous the Big Bads come off). Yes, the costumes aren't period correct. At the end of the day, you could play worse games to pass the time. Plus, it's reminiscent of the glory days of Big Fish Games.

Overall, I'd recommend this one. Especially for extra spooks around Halloween.

I love this part. The elevator and the cable car are a bit annoying and the well "puzzle" is face palm material. But all else is just great. The puzzles are not too hard and not too annoying ( if you remember the WELL) and the ambience is nicely creppy. But the best is just Charles and Victor: Thats where the game gets from creepy to hilariously funny. And the credits are totally worth watching till the end. And a hint use all the numbers on the phonebook they are totally worth it (the upper numbers last numbers are 11 and not 4). I can highly recommend this game

This H.O.G and puzzle game is really fun. You'll need to run the monitor in 800x600 from the Geforce control panel if you would like to play it in full screen. Little annoying that Ravenhearst 1 would naturally run full screen in whatever your current resolution is but the graphics would reflect it. those are my only gripes about this game.

To be honest, it's not worth 10 bucks. But I have played this game so many times in my childhood. I just had to buy it again and play it again... And also create a guide. And you cannot play it on a resolution above 800x600... This turned out to be a huge downside to my 4k monitor. So, if anyone has a fix, to force the game, to upscale it, you're a god to me.

I did have fun with the puzzles in this game but even at full screen you have about 4x4 inches of game window. You can't make it bigger. It makes the game impossible to progress. Thanks to "hints" or puzzle skips in the game it's possible to complete the game but having to resort to that is awful.

Well, what can I say about this masterpiece in the genre Hidden Objects... This game opened up a whole bunch of inspiration on me towards creativity and inventive as a whole, since the game is so rounded with its amazing scenarios, details, complexity and even the soundtrack which is, simply, genius!
I haven't encountered a game in such genre better than this, and the 3rd part of the Ravenhearst's saga (Escape from Ravenhearst) was quite more difficult (which is great) but... Didn't have the amazing atmosphere that the 2nd had.
Even now, years later, I play this game and I can even feel certain grief once you get into Rose's and the twins' rooms... This doesn't happen in the 3rd game just because, for some reason, Big Fish removed the soundtrack so, please, consider it if you guys gonna do a 4th part (which would be a great pleasure to play!).
Overall, great game, one of my fav and 100% recommended!

PS: The only problem that I encountered is that you have to change the Display settings to 800 x 600 in order to play comfortably... But I think that it worth the "sacrifice".

Mystery Case Files makes some great thriller games. However, Return to Ravenhearst is a must play, in my opinion. Dire Grove is another MCF game for those who like a bit of a more horror game feel. The use of live footage in these games make it all the more uncanny.

This game has not aged well. While some of the puzzles are enjoyably challenging, a few are just...bad compared to modern fare. Combined with travel cutscenes that are definitely NOT skippable (and yes, they are only a minute max, but that doesn't excuse the fact that they still take a minute), this game feels like it belongs in 2008, not 2021.

Shorter, but better than previous MCF installments - not so repetetive. Puzzles are more insteresting as well. Fullscreen still broken.
