Mystery Case Files: Madame Fate
Madame Fate, a mysterious fortune teller, has foreseen her own demise at midnight this very day. She has asked for your help in discovering the identity of her killer!

Madame Fate, a mysterious fortune teller, has foreseen her own demise at midnight this very day. She has asked for your help in investigating each quirky carnival worker to determine their whereabouts at midnight. Your investigation will include a multitude of fascinating personalities, from Art the Carny to Lucy the Bearded Beauty, while exploring the magical world of Fate`s Carnival. Each suspect has a motive, but only a Master Detective can discover the secrets hidden within Madame Fate`s crystal ball.
One of my favorite Mystery Case Files, for the additional puzzles included, as well as the perfect atmosphere, music, and artwork. Exploring Fate's Carnival is a great activity on a rainy day.
Game
This was a interesting bridge game between the next Ravenhearst games. That being said--! For those looking for an updated return of Prime Suspects then this is a game for you. This really leans into the puzzle aspects. Some word puzzles and story beats are very well thought out and well placed. Others, not so much.
The sound design is fine. Madame Fate is voice and provides a lot of one liners. I will admit that I did get tired of hearing a lot of the voice overs, but as you progress you'll hear more. But for everyone it'll be different if you end up liking it or not.
The story line is getting progressively darker. I was surprised and shocked by these choices but I welcomed them. A few outcomes of characters are goofy, but they are few and far in between.
Overall the game is worth your time! There's normal time and relaxed time, so there's no rush unless you want to end up beating the 2h 30m or so on their self proclaimed leader board. That being said, I look forward to the next installment in the series.
I love this game but I am now unable to play it. The resolution issue is one problem...it crashed and now the game wont even open.
Brilliant game but don`t buy it on steam
no it wont let me finish the game . Im on a puzzle that i have solved and it keeps going back :( so sad.
This is a good game but the resolution is very bad. its hard to see anything on the screen and changes computers resolution settings, resulting in needing to reset. They seems to fix this in the newer games though :)
Great storyline and puzzles!
used to play these games with my mom when i was a kid! that music is a blast from the past, and im really excited about it! it does force change my computer/s aspect ratio, which i am soooo patient and understanding about considering i have to turn my laptop off and on again after closing the game
not nearly enough to ruin my experience! :D
My recommendation is a mixture of yes and no due to the fact that it plays full screen on big fish platform, but not here on steam platform. Thus, my only option to play this fantastic game is on big fish. I tried changing my screen resolution and setting to administrator, but neither worked. I purchased it here so I could complete my MCF collection, too bad I can't play all here.
good
I absolutely love it. It is definitely a challenge but not such a challenge that you no longer want to play it. I recommend it because it is mentally stimulating.
It was a childhood game that i'd been looking for ages, really glad to finally have found it again.
I used to play this game on the pc when i was a teenager and I LOVED IT. So nostalgic to get to play it again. It has some wonderful puzzles, and so many hidden objects to find, I adore the carnival theming too and beautiful illustrations. Definitely my favourite of the mystery case files games.
como coloco esto en español?
waste of money. the game wont even launch. it worked good for a few days and now it wont even launch.
These crash from time to time at least the older ones do but i played these games as a kid so it doesn't upset me
This series is very nostalgic to me, I love all the Mystery Case Files.
didn't crash once for me, seems like a skill issue :^)
If you're lucky enough to get this game to work it's quite interesting with a spooky carnival theme and fun challenging puzzles. If you're having trouble loading the game try waiting a minute or two, it took awhile for it to load for me but it did finally.
not good game is crashing
Mystery Case Files: Madame Fate works well with Windows 11, it will take a couple of minutes to start and up to five minutes to exit, usually leaving your display resolution at 800x600 or other, so you will have to manually put the resolution back to how you had it. This game can be challenging, it is very long and there is a timer, which may be or not be a problem for you. The only gripe I have is that some of the HO scenes are very blurry and grainy, but this is an old game and that is to be expected.
I enjoyed this game a lot. The whole game is well-made and there is amazing artwork. There are cool sound effects, music and voice-overs. Characters are well made too. Madame Fate is talking through the game, and sometimes it can become annoying.
Cons:
- Timer for puzzles and hidden object scenes
It'd help if the game would load...
Crashed on Windows 11 and I can't get it to open back up. Sadge
Loved this. Took me a while but I got top 9 for 7 hours and 10 minutes.
Love: Nostalgia and caricature art style
Like: Interesting location concepts and solid hint recovery mechanic
Dislike: Limited sound and music design; boring character location locks
Hate: Window resolution restrictions and unfair item locations
MADAME FATE HAS PREDICTED HER OWN DEMISE🔮CAN I FIND THE MURDERER IN TIME OR IS HER FATE ALREADY SEALED?
Madame Fate is the fourth game in the Mystery Case Files series. I decided to replay the entire series, and it has given me a whole new perspective watching new features unfold with each new release.
Mystery Case Files: Huntsville wasn't just the first game in this series; it was the first Hidden Object game of its kind... EVER, and it gave birth to the Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure genre.
Let's do a recap...
MYSTERY CASE FILES: HUNTSVILLE
You begin this game as an ordinary detective, but as you apprehend each of the 14 members of the S.T.A.I.N Organization, you'll climb the ladder to become the infamous Master Detective...Fun Fact: The Master Detective was a female detective in the earlier games!
Huntsville was a diamond in the rough. The scenes were grainy and jam-packed with an abundance of ordinary objects, some of which were extraordinarily tiny. With just 3 Hints per chapter, you are tasked with finding 8 objects per scene and completing a repetitive square tile-swapping game within a given time frame.
MYSTERY CASE FILES: PRIME SUSPECT
After becoming a Master Detective in Huntsville, I was sent to the Capital City Piazza Gallery in the United States to find the culprit who had stolen the Queen's Hope Diamond.
Big Fish Studios debuted Prime Suspects a year later on April 5, 2006, and reported record-breaking sales of 3.3 games per minute! Just as in its predecessor, Huntsville, you are tasked with searching for clues in locations across the town in the form of Hidden Object Scenes. There are 22 Levels that take place over 29 different locations. Each level requires the player to search a handful of locations that have 8 listed objects per scene within the allotted time (which varies depending on the number of locations)
They added a fourth Hint and a new feature requiring you to find a Battery that unlocks two different HO varieties. A device to search items in the dark using a flashlight or a device to search through walls using a magnifying glass device. They added two new mini-games and designed the game to have different items to search for every time you replay the game.
MYSTERY CASE FILES: RAVENHEARST
Mystery Case Files takes a supernatural twist! Her Majesty The Queen has asked me to investigate the unsettling rumors surrounding Ravenhearst Manor. My mission is to find the missing diary pages of Emma Ravenhearst, but first I'll have to solve a series of bizarre Door Locks placed by Charles Dalimar. Was Charles trying to keep someone from getting in...or out?
Ravenhearst marks the beginning of the Dalimar legacy and Master Detective's nemesis for many future Mystery Case Files games. A fifth Hint has been added, and a new Diary Entry puzzle of rotating & placing fragmented pieces.
The most notable difference in Ravenhearst is with the introduction of the infamous Rube Goldberg puzzles. Charles Dalimar may be long gone, but he still haunts you with a series of maddening locks. These are Rube Goldberg puzzles that require thinking & tinkering. Click on anything and everything until you find codes or clues as to how to solve each section. These puzzles may seem impossible to figure out at first glance, but the solutions are logical; they just have bizarre and creepy graphics.
MYSTERY CASE FILES: MADAME FATE
Madame Fate has foreseen the future from within her Crystal Ball, and it has predicted her demise at the stroke of midnight. Determined to change her fate, she has asked Master Detective to investigate each of the 15 Carney's to find her murderer.
Mystery Case Files: Madame Fate is finally beginning to look more like a HOPA with the introduction of animated graphics, Hot Spot Zoom Zones, Brain-teaser Word puzzles, Rapid Clicking ability (you can now click on items back-to-back without having to wait), 5 Hints with the ability to earn more (and the ability to earn additional time on the timer), a Hot Line Phone to skip Crystal Ball Puzzles, and my favorite feature of all time...Morphing Objects.
Hotspots-Zoom Zones
Some locations have a sub-scene that takes you to an additional HO scene. These levels have a slight glow around them on the Map, and you can enter the hotspot by clicking on the area with sparkles. Many of the listed items within the hotspots are listed in the form of a riddle or require an interactive task, such as "A Happy Devil," meaning you have to find an item to drag to the devil to make him happy.
Mysterious Changing Items-Morphing Objects
On the level map, you will notice that some locations have a purple Question Mark icon. These are the scenes that have a Morphing Object in either the main scene, the hotspot scene, or both. Finding Mystery Changing items will unlock additional secret locations integrated into the next chapter (click the Attractions tab > Mystery Items tab to see the required amount). The secret locations allow you to earn extra time on the clock as the clock goes backward with every item found. Finding Mystery Items will also give you an additional Hint.
Word Puzzles
There are several types of Word games available:
-Ten From Seven: Form 10 seven-letter words from the letters in the center.
-Six 2 Win: Form 6 words that are related to each other (weather, birds, bathroom items, etc.) by swapping letters.
-Attraction: Swap letters to form 2 words that have opposite meanings. (Negligent & Diligent)
-Rocket Dog: Guess three different words by clicking on letters. You get six guesses for each word. If you guess correctly, the letter fills in the blank spots in the correct placement. If you guess a letter that isn't in the word, one of the six rings will disappear. I loved this hangman-type game!
Crystal Ball Puzzles
These are the infamous Rube Goldberg "door puzzles" first introduced in Ravenhearst. These are tricky puzzles, and I had to consult a walkthrough for several puzzles to figure out what I was supposed to do. Once I figured out what I was supposed to do, I could usually figure out how to solve it. I completed every puzzle but one. I had to use the Phone Hotline to skip the puzzle where you click on squares to change each square to assemble the correct cat picture. I was able to solve every picture with the exception of the lion's face. I would get all the tiles to change except 1 square in the middle of his nose. I ran out of time on my first attempt, and on the second attempt, I tried every which way but loose before giving up :(
Carney Hidden Objects-Multiples of the Same Object
Another new feature is a Hidden Object variety where you must find multiples of two different items in a scene featuring a Carnival worker, such as 10 Lightning Bolts and 10 Spades. In theory, this sounds like a simple task but these items are blended into the scenery seamlessly....very challenging and fun!

good game
))0_0((
Favorite game EVER! I've played this game for years, over and over, and it never gets old.
items too small and scenes are tooo Dark to find items.
Fun game. Some things are harder than others, but still fun. There are some darker themes to it though.
pretty good HOG love how madam fate references Huntsville if you make mistakes also why cant you add the 4 games we are missing on steam i know they don't run on windows 10 but is there not a way to make it run on windows 10 cause right now i have to use a virtual machine to play those 4 after i buy them from big fish games
The strongest game that Big Fish has made. Too bad they chose gambling over good point-and-click games after this one.
It's the fourth game in the series.
It's a hidden object game, with word scramble included here and there, each lvl also ends with a skippable puzzle (only the final puzzle cannot be skipped.) It has 15 levels, and some story.
Another great game. The fate carnival and the try to change fate. Still as simple as the other parts but not less fun. Its the hardest part of the series so far because the objects are better hidden. As always highly recommendable
Price should be one-fourth because it takes one fourth of my 24 inch monitor
Locked at 640x480 and fullscreen just locks the smaller window into the corner of your screen. Save your money and buy a soft drink.
Very creepy and fun! Really enjoyed this one
By the end of the game I was convinced the murderer Madame Fate was worried about was going to be me trying to get her to shut up while I was doing the puzzles. Not much of a story, but hunting the objects across multiple locations is a nice change of pace from most modern HOG.
Very good hidden object game and it holds up amazingly well
It's a good game to play for you to get lost in your music.
I have Window 11, and it worked fine. I recommend it if you want a game whose focus is HOPs and puzzles. These aren't just any puzzles. They are more like busy boxes. You have to just start poking and prodding until something moves and then try to figure you what you're supposed to do. It actually took me 15 hours to play. You can choose a relaxed mode that gives you a lot more time to play (I never ran out of time on it).
The puzzles/mini games do not have instructions which is a shame because they are so fun, original, and interesting. Your only choice is to skip if you can't figure it out. The hints come in the form of a little picture which may or may not be helpful.
The artwork is very professional.
If you like tons of hidden objects and puzzles that are challenging and will test your brain, this game is for you.
Nostalgia for me when me and my mom played this when I was a kid!
Now I replayed it with my partner and we had a good time with this hidden object game!
Some puzzles was hard but we made it!
Fun, because it is older some of the puzzles are not very intuitive. I enjoyed it though. Would recommend to people who like to play search games.
I've always loved Big Fish games. This one is no different. Very good.
Crashes midway through the game and doesn't open back up even when reinstalling, Windows 10
This game is old, but one of my favorites. The puzzles are hard because there are no directions, and you have to figure it, out. You have the option to skip. Its' challenging, too because you only get five hints per round and theres a whole lot of search scenes involved. If you like challenge this is it.
Having played and loved other Mystery Case Files games, I like find the object games. Its a favorite pass-time.
This one introduces mini games that you have to beat to get access to the object-find pictures as well as to solve each investigation. Many are word based or puzzle based instead of object finding. FOR ME, it detracts from the main game. I don't like word based puzzles, they aren't what I bought this game to play. If you like them, and you like switching up what you doing--you'll probably love this.
I will also say that the find the object pictures are the same high quality, imaginative and fun "maps" we have enjoyed from this series. I just don't like the word games.
oldie but a good one
How could they not love Madame Fate?
- Madame Fate
Caveat emptor is what comes to my mind on these games.
This is a hidden object game, and if you are looking for a hidden object game, this might work for you.
They are high quality hidden object puzzles and are fun to do...
BUT
(My issues with these games)
1. As a casual game, having a countdown timer makes them less "casual" than they should be. It takes the fun out of trying to find the hidden objects, makes the player rush through the puzzles, and they miss the details and effort that went into the graphics. It wouldn't be that big of an issue but when you run out of time, you have to start over and do all the hidden object puzzles in the current section over to advance the story.
2. Every game starting in full-screen mode is also irritating. I understand that these games are old (from 2007 on), but full-screen 800x600 was crazy even back in 2007. (NOTE: Not all of the games are 800x600. the newer games (post 2012) are 16x9 resolution)
3. I don't know why these games don't close but when you "quit" the game keeps "running" according to Steam. This isn't a deal-breaker but irritating.
Overall, I keep thinking about Caveat emptor and how I should have played the first game I picked up before buying the whole sets of the games.
Thankfully, I got them on sale.
Summary:
Beautiful graphics and artwork.
High quality audio.
Timed "casual" game
The game play (timers) ruined these games for me.
fun
Liked the variety of games, colorful
I enjoy playing this game as it's one that doesn't get boring
In order to get full screen mode to work with NVIDIA, open the NVIDIA Control Panel >> Manage 3D Settings >> Image Sharpening >> Set Sharpening Off and GPU Scaling Enabled.
Okay ... the game is good. This was the height of the hidden object craze and it was one of the best. But the lack of high res updates seriously hampers it now and makes playing it a pain at best and frustrating at worst.
I played this game as a kid and returned for a much-needed nostalgia break. Visuals are obviously dated but still breathtakingly magical. I had missed the song-rich environment of the MCF series. Looking forward to playing this again in 15 years :D
I have been playing the Madame Fate series since they came out. I love the games, I love the scenes, I love the collections
this game bring me a nostalgic thing
It's not a bad game - it's pretty hard and has some interesting puzzles. But fullscreen mode just didn't work for me. You either have to set desktop resolution to 800x600 or play in a windowed mode with 200% or 300% desktop scaling. Also there are a lot of word puzzles and I hate word puzzles.
A potentially enjoyable game ruined by the decision to build it around a time limit. So much for a relaxing game. If I wanted excitement I wouldn't be playing a hidden object game.
I play this game over and over again ,, if you like seek and find
really fun mystery game dont even notice how long youve been playing till you stop and see.
one of my all time favoirte hidden item games. it's well made though some of the puzzles can be very hard they do allow you to skip them and continue playing.
This is the first Mystery Case Files game I played and it still holds up very well. Can’t recommend it more! The best one in the series imo.Played it multiple times throughout the years and still struggle with finding isht😂
best mystery game ever
Nice classic HOG with some cool and inventive puzzles that will have you scratching your head sometimes.
probably one of my favorites of this series! its by no means a masterpiece but its good for a couple hours of relaxed gameplay with some pretty unique and fun puzzles
I love all of mystery case file games i only have 3 right now going to get all the rest of them.jimmie
Probably one of the hardest games to complete in the Ravenhearst series (yes series), this game is exquisite in its design, execution, and entertainment value. Again, it is a must for my follow hunt and peck people out there, unlimited replayabilty and a great story unfolds as you look into the murder at a carnival.
Good puzzles with funny graphics and animations. Sometimes difficult to run the game itself, so it kind of has a will of it's own. The game gets a tiny bit repetitive, but only if you never take breaks now and then. Either way, worth the hard-earned cash.
Podobają mi się łamigłówki i dużo przedmiotów do znalezienia.
I love the puzzles, although some of the puzzles are just "guess random letters" but it's still fun. I njoy the light hearted mystery, and the cartoon characters are amusing.
unkike other MCF games like 13 sculls there was no "investagating" aspect to it it was a hidden object with an anoying time limit.and not much story. did not enjoy
i did not have a problem with the fullscreen problem tho. for those stuck without the fullscreen go into game settings fullscreen is an option.
Very nostalgic, unique suspects and surely Madame Fate knows what will happen at the stroke of 12 😏
Played this game ages ago and fell in love. When I saw it was on sale on Steam, I jumped at the chance to download it. Unfortunately, I cannot play this game in full screen mode. It remains a small screen, only positioned in the top left hand corner of the screen. For hidden object games, no full screen means impossible to play efficiently. Discussion boards have only shown me Big Fish is not interested in fixing this issue.
Do not recommend - at least on Windows XP. Not sure if the issue carries over to other operating systems.
Great game, otherwise, from what I remember. Interesting puzzles, stunning images, and fun characters.
Mystery Case Files 4: Madame Fate (HOG)
Options include separate sliders for Music, SFX and Environment. Choice of difficulty between Detective Mode (timed) and Relaxed (which will give you extra time).
NOTE: The Steam version will NOT go full-screen unless you change your desktop resolution to 800x600. If you're still having trouble, try running as administrator, and you should be good to go.
Ah, the HOG's of yesteryear, when the games were truly a challenge, and items were really well-hidden. Revisiting Madame Fate - the game that originally drew me into the world of hidden objects - was a real eye-opener. The scenes we scour aren't just junk piles... Sometimes it's hard to tell that they are HOS at all! Some of the items are beautifully-hidden, and truly hard to find.
Madame Fate has foreseen her own demise. Collect clues on 15 employees at Fate's Carnival, and help her find the culprit before it is too late!
For each carnival worker, you will search multiple scenes until you find enough clues to present to Madame Fate. If you're having trouble with one location, just go to the map and jump to another location for a while. Some locations have zoom-in areas that have their own full-length lists.
There is some light interaction at times (ie. put the puzzle pieces in place before you can collect it), and other times you'll need to find 10 of one item. While you're sleuthing, keep an eye out for morphing items... When you collect enough, you'll unlock new locations!
FINDING MORPHING ITEMS WILL EARN YOU A HINT if you have less than five available.
In this fourth installment of the MCF series, you can at last find multiple items in succession... As a matter of fact, finding items quickly back-to-back will net you a time bonus! Woo woo! Be careful with rapid misclicks, though, as you'll earn yourself a time penalty.
For each staff member you investigate, you'll do one word puzzle-type of game, as well as a modified "door lock". Unlike Ravenhearst, these puzzles are actually really difficult - you're going to have to use your brain to figure these out!
The graphics are bright and colorful, and the cast of characters comically memorable. Madame Fate interacts with you often, and her voice acting is very well done.
This is not an easy game, but I highly recommend it to those who enjoy challenging themselves. Use yer brain, eh!
Honestly didn't like it. Whole game felt like a chore. For some reason while fullscreen worked on the last entry of this serries, it did not work on this one. The game has a vague connection to the last game in the serries but that only becomes evident when you beat it. Puzzle were unique but sometimes very annoying. Also there are various items that change between two objects to unlock. You can only do them when a certain scene appears. So if you miss one, well, play again i guess. Tunnel of love is a culprit. I only remember seeing it once and i missed it. And occasionally madame fate will start talking during a scene, which gets old real fast when your squinting trying to find objects in a small window. I wouldn't reccomend it by itself but if you bought the serries or want to play them all in order then have at.
Don't buy this unless you like to tinker with your display. It only runs small unless you change your settings for the screen display to 600x800, which is a total downer. Frankly, I think I shall ask for a refund, as this is not what I wanted to do with my scarce spare time.
In windows 10, full screen doesn't work. Playing in the small window provided makes all the objects you have to find extremely, extremely small. Then there is the stupid timer - I'm not a fan of timers and this game doesn't change that. There doesn't seem to be much of a plot other than finding objects. And the last straw is having Madame Fate constantly saying things - like "move faster", "that's not it" etc etc while you are looking for the teeny tiny objects. So annoying that I'm not going to finish playing. Avoid this one if you have windows 10.
nice
I've always loved the mystery case files. I love the length and intensity of this one a lot
</3... <3 it's a so so. Game is old, hasn't aged well. But in my eyes it's still a classic.
This was when the Return to Ravenhearst was introduced c:
Full screen does not work in windows 10 for me.
Good game. The search and find puzzles were hard on my laptop as I had to move the screen around just to see the items and the puzzles that finished each "chapter" had no instructions so you had to figure it out on your own. If you play the timed version and time ran out, you had to start at the beginning of the "chapter". It was frustrating, but the second (or third) time through went faster. Yes, I would reccommend this game.
BEST GAME EEEEEEEEEEEEEEVVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRR DUUUUUDEESSS!!! KILLER BOOTS MAAAAAAAAAAN!
Alter Klassiker jetzt "Unzensiert"
Vorweg.
Immer wieder kleine Schmuckstücke an Rätselbildern...
The game cannot be switched to fullscreen. Also after shutting down the game, Steam still says it's running and I have to restart the computer to get rid of it.
Case closed, refunded. Fix your game!
(My OS: up to date Windows 10)

A very whimsical, yet fun, hidden object game. Best in short bursts, and great for winding down or for mindless fun.
Yeah, I couldn't resist buying this at full price but if I wanted to follow the Ravenhearst story-arc, I needed it.
In MCF: Madame Fate, after freeing Emma's spirit from Ravenhearst, Madame Fate contacted you as she saw her own demise in her crystal ball - she needs you to find who among her employees wants her dead....
And you'll ask me: why is it tied to Ravenhearst? Because the storyline has a huge twist at the end, that will make you go back to Ravenhearst Manor in the fifth installement of the series.
You're now visiting a fair, along with people: you'll have a number of items to find in order to access to the future of the employees (doomed, doomed and doomed.... anyway). Each scene contains also beyond objects items (changing appearances) that will unlock special places where you can gain time - mainly if you're in the normal mode where you have a timer.
When visiting an employee, you'll have a puzzle of words to solve, each time different in the thematic. Then, there, you'll have to find specific items (5 clubs, 10 moons, 15 jelly beans, etc...).
And when you want to reveal their fate, well, you'll have a puzzle to solve - an elaborate one as sometimes, it's hard to see what to do.
As you understand, Madame Fate, while being in the first era of hidden objects games, has a tendancy to orient itself towards modern "hidden objects" games: beyond objects, puzzles, and hidden objects scenes in a scene.
However, I felt the game being long for a simple reason: you have many employees to check AND some objects are so well hidden that you'll need a magnifying lens to see them. Also, as the game is in English only, I had an hard time for the puzzle words (I don't know all the fruit in English or even the feelings) and for some items, like a dolly, where I was searching for a doll when it was something else (a tool used to carry boxes or crates). So in other words, Madame Fate isn't opened to everyone, at least on Steam. If you want a multilanguage game, you need to find it elsewhere or in retail.
Madame Fate's ambiance, however, is between cynism and dark humor. It's perhaps less creepy than Ravenhearst, the previous game, but there is still evil lurking around and the fair Madame Fate owned isn't the most joyful in the world.
Anyway, it's still a good game, a good moment to pass just to know the fate of the employees and who wants to kill her. I spent 10 bucks that I'm not regretting, however, you should prefer a discount on it, that will perhaps happen one day, as Ravenhearst and Return to Ravenhearst were during this sale!
Out of all the Mystery Case File Games - I recommend this one the most. The only bummer is that there are no Steam achievements to unlock with this game.
