Hit the road with "Monster Prom 3: Monster Roadtrip", a vibrant sequel that twists the Monster Prom formula in an exciting new way. At its core, this is a very similar game: a multiplayer narrative adventure full of colorful characters and fresh funny dialogues. But this time the goal isn't getting a date, but surviving a road trip (although you still can score a date if you play wisely). You and up to 3 friends will face all kinds of wacky conflicts, choosing from options in order to manage your road trip resources. If a resource hits zero... you can kiss your trip goodbye! After owning this game for a while, finally giving it a review. Wow, this game is almost 4 years old! Freaky to think about.

A experiment sequel that changes quite a bit from the previous games, making it a coop survival-ish game with some PvP romance stuff as a light side thing. Lots of fun art to look at, kinda tricky to get MVP endings if you play solo though. Still, I like that the devs decided to branch out and try something new.

Another entry in the criminally underserved party/visual novel/dating sim genre. I haven’t played the first game in the Monster Prom series yet, but I can compare it to the second game Monster Camp. In this game, 1-4 players take turns picking one of two locations to go to that will increase and decrease at least two of your resources (those being Hype, Magic, Mind, Money, Soul, and Stamina) depending on which choices you make at that location. They all start at 10 and the goal of the game is to raise one of them to 25 while keeping the rest above zero, otherwise it’s game over. When you reach 25, you trigger reaching the destination tied to that resource, and the ending screen showed three different destinations per resource. While the dating elements are toned down compared to the last game, you can still choose to romance one of the many characters which will trigger a special ending with them too if you successfully make it to a destination after picking the right dialog options with them.

As you can see, this game has a ton of replayability. There are a lot of locations you can choose, scenarios to read through, characters to romance, and destinations to reach. I only played two runs with a friend, with the first one ending in failure and the second leading to the Magic resource destination and romantic ending with Scott. While this was enough to be able to visit every location, it wasn’t nearly enough to see the hundreds of different scenarios. While I was pretty tired of the last game after a handful of runs (which you can’t fail unlike this game), I wouldn’t’ve been opposed to playing this some more to reach more destinations. The resource management added another layer of complexity that made it feel more like a game to me instead of just reading the same scenarios over and over again. It’s worth noting that the tone of this game is just as raunchy as ever, so I would avoid playing it around children. If the idea of a party game with a lot of reading, charming characters, pop culture references, and sexual innuendos sounds like a good time, I think you’ll like this. Just be aware that the gameplay is still mostly reading.

I like dating monsters as much as the next person, and you *can* do that in Roadtrip, but Roadtrip really leans into the thing that makes the series so great, especially to play with friends. Sure there's drugs and crime and horniness and horny drug crime, and it's laugh out loud funny, but it's really about capturing a particular kind of warm fuzzy friend feeling, connecting with people, sharing joy. You know what? It's a good hang. That's the vibe.

So, before I get started gushing about how much I love this game and this series, I realize my playtime here is really low, but that's because the majority of my playtime of this game has been on Switch since I bought the Special Physical Editions of this game and its predecessors for the console during its Super Rare run. (Funny, I played this game on a couple actual road trips thanks to the console's portability.) Now, let me tell you about one of the best journeys I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing!

You know that feeling you get of intense longing for something so unbelievably nostalgic—something you wish you could be a part of eternally that it makes your chest hurt? That's this game for me. Yeah, I know I sound dramatic, but let me finish.

Roadtrip is my favorite entry in the series by FAR. I know that's a hot take as people prefer the dating sim gameplay of the rest of the MP series over the survival mechanics of this one, but this game really expanded the MP universe! Traveling around? Exploring the world of MONSTER PROM?! It feels so ALIVE! And you're telling me, I get to do that with SCOTT AND POLLY? Scott may be a large part about why I love this game because I've been absolutely enamored with him since the first game, but there's so many other factors of this game that have made it deeply important to me.

First the music is phenomenal! Introducing the four different genres was a genius move and sets the mood for every playthrough! My personal favorite is the lo-fi tape, and I'm so happy they brought it back into MC. The most impactful thing about the music though? I find it so incredibly nostalgic. So, I'm sending my flowers to the composer.

As someone who was inspired to start drawing because of the first game and its modtool, the art style in this game feels like it embodies the series as a whole. Like this was the art style they always had intended to find, but it took three games for it to feel settled. Monster Con's art style is SO lovely and was able to expand further on it, adopting a really bright bubbly aesthetic, but I feel like Roadtrip's has the core of MP built into its art style and I can't explain it. It feels like the art style has come home in a way (ironic give it's about a Roadtrip), and it's this installment's art style in particular out of the whole franchise that I use as a guide to draw my own in-universe characters with. It's bright, colorful, clean, and feels cohesive in every aspect, the characters, the backgrounds, the UI, the objects—ALL THE LITTLE PIECES OF ART YOU FIND IN YOUR PLAYTHROUGHS! The amount of THOUGHT and LOVE put into the game is just incredible!

The writing is gold. Like, it's unbelievably funny and well done! There are so many cool references, and each location is exciting and unique and every character feels special! It never fails to make me smile. Polly and Scott are always hilarious together to begin with, and seeing how they interact with the world of Monster Prom beyond just one location really deepens the MP world. I love it all. And the fact that almost each location and event has its own assets and art and characters makes it incredibly addicting to go back and see everything! I love going into the gallery and looking at what I've unlocked!

I really love the multiplayer aspects about this game, too! I gushed about this in my review for the first Monster Prom, but it feels really communal to work together towards a common goal—which is different from the first game, as with that one, everyone's working towards their own goal! But in this game a common and personal goal both exist! And even if you don't have friends to play with the game is still just as good! I've had just as much fun exploring it all with others as I do on my own, and I think the fact the developers were able to deliver on that is incredible.

Now, even though this game isn't primarily a dating sim, I'm so thankful they still include a date ending for SO MANY characters! I was especially happy I could still date Scott, despite it all. I redo that ending a lot because it fills me with a great sense of joy and nostalgia. And in the meanwhile, I can keep having conversations with him! The conversation mechanic is another thing that adds another nostalgic layer on this emotional cake. You learn so much about every character and their lives in this game! Every character from previous games returns and you get to learn new things about them! And the best thing, EVERY hitchhiker has voice acting (aside from Calculester but he still has sound effects!) I ADORE the voice acting of this franchise, so it was exciting to hear them all come back and speak! The hitchhiking mechanic is just amazing in general. And adding the original four player characters as datable NPC's is like a story coming full circle.

And speaking of story... I'm not going to get into End of the Road here, mostly because I don't want to spoil a thing, and secondly, because I really don't want to cry right now, but god... It takes effort to experience, but it's WORTH IT!

Lastly, I want to mention that I played this game during a rough time in my life, and it seriously helped me recover and feel stable once more. It stuck with me, made me laugh and forget about my troubles and filled me with a deep sense of belonging even though none of these characters are real (as much as I wish they were.) I think this factor is what truly makes the game nostalgic for me. So much so, I sometimes am scared to revisit the game for feelings I can't quite explain. Not bad feelings from the low I was in when I first played it. More like, if I play it now, will it give me that same hope and sense of belonging it once did? It's why my hour count is so low on steam, but even despite those worries, it always—ALWAYS—comes through, and I'm right back at home. But please don't let my hesitancy affect your decision on whether or not you want to play this game.

All-in-all, I long to be a part of this universe. If only a modtool existed for this game. I like to imagine or write up stories of the MP characters interacting with my own, and I think the majority of that desire stems from this game. A girl can dream, even if that dream's impossible. So I'll keep fantasizing and writing and imagining and drawing the whacky adventures of these amazing thoughtout characters, knowing full well, I'll always be coming back to this game. Next stop is 100%-ing! And that means more time with Scott! 🥰

Monster Roadtrip or Monster Prom 3 is supposed to be a dynamic narrative adventure with survival elements, but it ends up not delivering anything, at least for me.

The visuals and artwork are really good, solid and consistent all around, so that is good.

The story, characters and interactions seem interesting as a concept, but they end up kinda bland, not really engaging or interesting, sometimes feel like jokes with good premises that never gets solved with a good punchline, sometimes they do get solved, but with "but yea, we had s*x, so it was fun".

I don't really mind the NSFW dialogue (cause there's only dialogue, they give you like 2-3 alerts for creators who stream, what is there to censor, really?) or the pronouns and s*xual interests taken into consideration, that's always nice to have, glad to see them, slay, but I do mind that it feels we're expected to find it MORE INTERESTING cause the story has these interactions. I don't know about you, but at 25yo I'm way past the "truth or dare, OMG THEY KISSED, I MADE THEM KISS, IT'S INSANE" type of entertainment.

The characters are nice and likeable, in the sense that there's nothing to hate about them, they are literally the nice colleagues from uni that you remember spending time with, cause you had to be there anyways, but you don't feel like texting them these days.

The survival elements are pretty much choosing the next stop and deciding what you're doing here, managing resources. I do appreciate that each decision has small icons to indicate how it would affect the resource exchange, but it's essentially just making me feel like not choosing something interesting, cause I don't have enough of one thing or I want to raise another resource back up, so it's kinda limiting me from a narrative standpoint. Also, the indicators show no real quantity and you don't know what you'll loose while you gain what they told you or vice versa. Pair that with the fact that the outcome is not really that interesting anyways, it just looked interesting from the description, heck, sometimes nothing's even interesting from the description!

So yea, play this with a friend, while a lil bit drunk, that should help the gossip. It is supposed to be played in multiplayer anyways. Also there's a Cult of the Lamb collab, that's cool.

The game is quite fun and puts an interesting twist on the original formula, I would 100% recommend it if you have friends to play with, as playing it alone just reminds you of the cripling loneliness of your existence and how you don't have a single friend that you close enough with to play the game alongside you and will never be able to form meaningful friendships despite the beauty of this world.

Monster Prom 3: Monster Roadtrip es básicamente una novela visual de comedia con sabor a “elige tu propia aventura”, pero con el caos extra de irte de viaje con monstruos hormonalmente inestables y decisiones que sí importan (para bien… o para arruinarte el intento de romance en 3 líneas). Es Casual e Indie hasta la médula: entras, lees, eliges, te ríes, te arrepientes, repites.

En lo “Simuladores / Estrategia”, aquí la estrategia no es construir imperios: es administrar recursos, conversaciones y oportunidades como si fueras un community manager tratando de no incendiar la marca. Funciona en un jugador y brilla en multijugador (incluido cooperativo y JcJ), porque ver a tus amigos tomar decisiones cuestionables es parte del “contenido” (y del crimen).

Primera impresión: es encantador, rápido, mordaz, y con un humor negro que te hace reír… y luego mirar a tu alrededor por si alguien te escuchó.

Monster Prom 3: Monster Roadtrip es de esos juegos que parecen una tontería… hasta que te das cuenta de que llevas dos horas tomando decisiones moralmente dudosas para impresionar a un monstruo ficticio. Y lo peor: funciona. Es divertido, rápido, rejugable y con una personalidad que no se vende como “humor”; lo dispara a la cara.

Eso sí: con 10 jugadores activos, no esperes sentir que estás en el “evento social del año”. La buena noticia es que tiene suficientes modos (online, pantalla compartida y Remote Play Together) como para armar tu propio desmadre. Y con 2768 recomendaciones totales, queda claro que el culto existe… solo que hoy no fueron todos a misa.

Si quieres una novela visual con comedia negra, romance, elecciones con consecuencias y accesibilidad bien pensada, este roadtrip te deja satisfecho. Si vienes buscando acción, reflejos o “gameplay” tradicional… te vas a aburrir más rápido que un NPC sin diálogo.

The gameplay differs from previous installments in the most amazing way possible: it adds even more depth and focus to stories and world-building, makes it EVEN MORE replayable, and fixes a lot of previous replaying issues that might come with the gameplay getting a little boring, like repeating through the same scenarios too many times over and over again. I love it. The shenanigans are even more unhinged when they're a little more focused on the longterm goal of having fun on a roadtrip rather than SOLELY about banging your favourite monster, so even more chemistry and bonding and wacky (actual) adventures!

This is probably my favorite game out of the series. I love the road trip style, and the dating taking a back seat in this one. I do wish that you could switch out your main companions outside of the Prank Masterz (just for replayabilites sake, and yes I would pay extra for that because I want to give you all of my money to make more games) but I don't think that's *necessary* to make this a simply fantastic game and more than worth picking up for anyone who likes visual novels with a twist.

[i]Monster Prom 3: Monster Roadtrip[/i] does a good job of portraying the absurdity that the gang does. There are tons of customized artworks that are used only in cutscenes in a certain area and in specific choices. There are four playable characters (+ another six from [url=https://store.steampowered.com/search?term=%22monster+roadtrip+playable+character%22&supportedlang=english&developer=Beautiful+Glitch&ndl=1]paid DLCs[/url]), and some of these cutscenes are tailored to have that character in them.

[h3]Story[/h3]
You are going on a road trip—that's the gist of the story. It's not a solo trip; there are Polly and Scott by default, although more will join depending on how many players are playing the game. You'll see the gang interact in each location that you are going to where you can choose some options that will determine the resource gains/losses.

The story isn't connected to each other. Due to the randomization in the locations that you are going to, the stories in these locations are standalone, meaning that you won't see these occurrences being talked about outside of this particular location. This makes dialogues useless—it only acts as a means to deduce which resources you are going to gain or lose. Reading the dialogues becomes unrewarding as a result; there are a lot of texts to be read, but it's not like reading them matters.

The multiple endings are only there to describe what happened to the main character after they reach a certain location. You'll see what the character is doing in a few sentences, and they will get an artwork of their own if you manage to get a good ending. Despite them doing different things, they have the same theme with different, minor details. Honestly, I didn't have any attachment to any of the characters, so I didn't feel anything reading them.

The end of the road update adds a new story that gives closure to the game. Despite the horror theme, I found the story to be entertaining. It solves the dialogue issue since it happens within several weeks, all while building up the pressure to the ending. I wonder why the developer didn't make the dialogues this way in the first place, since I enjoyed it the most. That being said, the unlock condition for this update is quite harsh; you need to grind for a while before it unlocks, and reaching them can be hard without a guide due to the high resource gain or loss.

[b]Gameplay[/b]
As a road tripper, you will take turns in driving the car, and whenever your character is in the driver's seat, you can choose between two locations. Sometimes, the game will tell you which resource you'll lose or gain. Other times, it will just have a big question mark, and you need to test your luck, hoping it won't take any resources that you need. Yes, going to another location will remove some of your resources and get more resources. If you let one of your resources reach 0, you'll get a game over.

As you progress, the resource loss/gain will increase, making it harder to stay alive unless you know what to do. Once you have enough resources, which depends on the difficulty, the game will end. There are several endings based on the location that you are going to and the people you are in a relationship with.

After you visit four locations, you'll reach a rest area. Each character can choose to do different actions: choosing a location, trading resources, picking up a hitchhiker, and more. Picking up a hitchhiker will add a challenge to the game; most of them will incur an additional resource increase or decrease throughout the game. You are also able to talk to them if you reach the rest area again, where you can start a romantic relationship with them.

[b]Length and Difficulty[/b]
I finished the game in ~1h. However, getting 100% achievement in this game is torture. You need to read all of the dialogues from all occurrences in the game, meaning that you have to replay the game numerous times just to see them. The thing is, some of the events are random, and you might not be able to see them in one or two playthroughs. However, if you ignore the achievements, the game is easy to beat. You just need to make sure you read the dialogue to figure out which resource you are going to get and/or lose. Heck, there are also three difficulties that you can choose when you start a new game, with the easiest one giving an almost guarantee to finish the game, even if you just randomly choose any options.

[h1]Conclusion[/h1]
I found the game to be boring. The conversation that happens in one location never gets out of that location, discouraging you from reading the texts. The end of the road update might help by giving an actual plot to the game, but unlocking it requires you to grind. It might be a good game if you just want to have some laughs with your family, but even then, I found that there are other better games that you can play instead. Therefore, I couldn't recommend the game.

Another really solid entry in the series! Admittedly I liked Prom and Camp more, mostly due to Roadtrip dialing back on the dating sim aspect and having it be more resource management and wacky antics with Scott and Polly, but the charm in the writing and visuals is absolutely still here and makes for a good time. Also End of the Road might be my favorite route/ending to come out of this franchise, so that's a big plus as well, definitely worth playing if you liked the previous two games!

Its a good game. The survival aspects are easy to get a hang of and the events are about as enjoyable as the other games in the series.
My issue is it feels very repetative at some point. Unlike the previous games who have different events per love interest, monster roadtrip puts all events out in the open so your bound to keep hitting the same one over and over. The fatigue I got was heavy and much faster than the other games.

While I understand that this is likely the unpopular opinion, I absolutely love the gameplay of Roadtrip over the other Monster Prom installments. Where in other Monster Prom games (and other dating sims, in general) you need very precise stats and/or specific interactions to be even remotely successfully, and that's something I've always found off-putting. I've never really been a fan of the games that basically *require* you to have the wiki open while you're playing the game.
But Roadtrip gives a lot more freedom to do what you want and follow your own narrative. Far more a 'choose your own adventure' type of experience than the other entries in the series.
I love the characters and humor across all of the Monster Prom games, but I anticipate revisiting this installment for years to come.

This was my first time playing a Monster Prom game so I'm not familiar with the characters. I'm probably not the target audience for this game.

The character designs were fun but I found the writing to be very cringy and too over the top.

I also struggled to remember which icons meant which of the resources so it was a pain to choose between the multiple choice options at each step of the game.

Obviously this game is a lot of fun for people already into the characters and vibe of the series, but it's not for me.

[i]Monster Prom 3: Monster Roadtrip[/i], though a different type of [i]Monster Prom[/i] game, has a beautiful place in the series. For those who are fans of Polly and Scott, get ready for weeks with them, venturing from destination to destination with the chaos only the Prankmasterz (with a z!) can bring.

[h3]General Gameplay[/h3]
Unlike its predecessors, Roadtrip has several differences. For one, unlike Prom and Camp, this one is [i][b]not[/b] a dedicated dating sim.[/i] This doesn't mean that you can't date any characters, but romance is not the focus.

The game takes place in 'weeks', which consists of four rounds of gameplay and then a rest stop. In each round of gameplay, you are given the choice between two locations. Each location has three events that can be selected with varying effects on your stats.

Once you have reached a certain value on one stat, you'll be able to arrive at one of six unique destinations! However, if any of your stats end up at or under zero, it's a game-over.

[h3]Notable Differences[/h3]

[*] [b]STATS:[/b] Unlike in the previous titles, Roadtrip features brand new stats. These are HYPE, SOUL, MIND, MONEY (yes, they brought it back!), STAMINA and MAGIC. Along with this new system is the fact that these are shared stats. Instead of each player having their own that they have to manage, these stats are manipulated by everyone's actions, which fosters further collaboration.

[*] [b]LENGTH OF GAMEPLAY:[/b] Roadtrip does not have a defined period of gameplay. Prom and Camp consistently kept it to 'x' amount of weeks, no matter what the player did. Roadtrip instead sets up a win/lose state that can be activated at any point depending on the player's choices. In a way, this encourages the player to continue playing over time, along with the fact that it [b]features a brand new save system.[/b] Feel free to step away and come back with your progress intact!

[*] [b]CAST:[/b] If you are a big fan of Scott and Polly, you are going to love this game, because they are the only people that are guaranteed companions the entire Roadtrip--mostly because they're the ones running it. While you will see many characters throughout the trip (and can even have some join you), it is arguably smaller than before.

[*] [b]SPECIAL ENDINGS:[/b] This is not new to the Monster Prom series, but rather than it being secret endings, you can instead "unlock" layers to each location by completing a series of events and/or successfully wooing a companion. It is a lot less involved than the secret endings in previous games.

[h3]My Opinions[/h3]

I honestly had to warm up to Roadtrip. Whether you like the game or not, it is a very different style of gameplay than the others, and that takes time to adjust to since there's pre-existing expectations. Even more so, after being used to the recurring cast from the last two games--and Scott and Polly being out of focus in Camp--it's slightly jarring to be limited to the two of them initially.

However, if you're at all familiar with their deeper endings in Prom, you know that there's a lot more to them, and that only proves to be truer in Roadtrip. They've also grown up a little from Prom (which may not be as noticeable at first. [spoiler]'End of the Road' actually does a great job of highlighting this and making you go, "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, they really [i]were[/i] less kind"[/spoiler]). Also, as two characters who are Prankmasterz, it can be argued that their being agents of chaos is fantastic for this. When I try to picture any other characters being in charge of this roadtrip, I really can't think of anyone else but Polly and Scott.

PARTIAL SPOILERS FOR 'END OF THE ROAD' BELOW.
[spoiler]As someone who enjoys writing, Polly's interactions with her creator/writer were so... I honestly struggle to find words for it. I felt close, and I felt like Polly was more clear than ever (no pun intended). While End of the Road absolutely hurts at times (and even scares), there's a beautiful peace to it. The tranquility of Polly moving on, and hoping that you, the player, carry her with you... it struck a chord with me.

Because I [i]have[/i] carried her with me, whether I think about it or not. Prom Polly, though mostly full of poor advice, stuck with me as I've continued to grow up. "Drink to have a good time, not to escape a bad one." There's been a few times where it's been a rough time, and sometimes, it's tempting. But those words pop up in my head, and strangely enough... it works. It stuck with me. I carry that with me. I carry her with me.

While it's so easy to wave away Polly at times--which is talked about a lot in-game--she has so much to her, and while she's not one of my favorites, she is near and dear to my heart.

Anyways, do End of the Road. See how far you can go in this roadtrip.[/spoiler]

Is the DLC worth it? As someone who absolutely adores the series and the characters within it, I'd say yes. However, I'd say you're not [i]really[/i] missing too much if you don't get it. [strike]You should totally do it though.[/strike]

[h3]Final Thoughts[/h3]

Are you looking for a less competitive Monster Prom game? Play Roadtrip. If you like the writing and characters of Monster Prom but not so much the romance and sex aspect? Play Roadtrip. If you like Polly and Scott and their dynamic? Play Roadtrip.

With this game... it truly is about the journey, not the destination.

I love the Monster Prom series, and this installment is definitely the best! There are so many storylines, so many choices you can make, and so many endings to get. It will take a very long time for you to run out of new content to discover! And, even when you've already seen an event, the art and fun stories offer great replay value.

The game also has four soundtrack options (spoiler) [spoiler] (plus some special secret songs tied to certain events and hitchhikers!) [/spoiler], three difficulty settings, and up to three gameplay modes with different levels of competitiveness, so you can really customize your experience! There is also a special gameplay mode called (spoiler) [spoiler] End of the Road, which shifts away from the game's usual lighthearted nature into something more serious and sinister. You can unlock this mode by reaching the first layer of each destination at least once, turning this mode on in the settings, and then reaching Week 9. Personally, I really love the storyline of this mode, and it gave me a new appreciation for Polly as a character. [/spoiler]

And, as usual, you can filter events and enable content warnings for stuff that might make some people uncomfortable: drugs, toilet humor, sexual content, and/or violent content. I haven't used the filter/warning feature, though, so I can't speak on its effectiveness.

[h1] Great platonic gameplay (and you can still make it romantic!) [/h1]
I also really love that this game isn't strictly romance-focused! All dating is completely optional, and it doesn't feel like the center of the game, which is a neat departure from the other games in this series. Of course, I love dating simulators, but it's also refreshing to have a Monster Prom game where the romance is just a fun bonus. Other Monster Prom games are mostly-romantic games with some platonic options, whereas this one is a mostly-platonic game with some romance options. It's really nice!

And, while this game being fairly platonic at its center, it actually has a lot of romanceable characters! You can talk to Polly, Scott, or any hitchhiker, and you're given the choice of keeping it platonic, or making it romantic after two or three interactions. There are 16 hitchhikers in the base game, including (spoilers) [spoiler] a secret hitchhiker, which you can unlock by going into the game files—you can learn about this from the Narrator in an event after you've been to every building in the game. [/spoiler]

You can also get two or four additional hitchhikers with the DLC: Vicky & Brian, Oz & Amira, or all four!

[h1] The game is plenty of fun without DLC, but seriously, GET THE DLC!! [/h1]
I have all of the DLC, so in case you're wondering if any the DLC is worth it: ABSOLUTELY!! I recommend getting all of them if you can, but if you need to be more selective, go for the hitchhiker packs! While the player character packs (Hazel, Glitch, Juan, Zoe, Jacqueline, Doug) are mostly cosmetic, the hitchhiker packs add a lot more to your gameplay experience: they allow you to interact with (and even date!) the default player characters. It's an opportunity to see a new side of Oz, Brian, Vicky, and Amira, and it really fleshes out their personalities and stories. You can even make them date themselves by going into your settings and setting "Allow Self Love" to "Yes" if you're into that sort of thing!

Fair warning though: When it comes to the Glitch DLC, the character's "voice lines" are a bit grating. Think Pokémon sound effects from way back when, that sort of sound. I find it a bit painful to listen to as an autistic person, but the character is otherwise fun to play as, and the voice lines don't come up very often.

Going in blind to this game, it seems enjoyment is directly tied to following the series. You have almost zero agency or choice as a player, and even within the confines of it being a dating sim, you basically scroll through walls of text to occasionally get to make one small decision after another. I think the writting's decent, but I absolutely hate mechanics of this game. Which sucks, because I was really excited with the resource management, cute characters, and a text based adventure.

ONE. Kill the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tutorial thing, the game explains immediately that if any of the 'resources' gets to 0 you lose. Why do you need to randomly stop the car to explain what every resource does? Magic has a gas can next to it so its fuel. Pretty much every other stat is self explanatory. Soul is willpower. Stamina is energy. Money is Money. Hype is Hype. Mind is idk introspection? learning?. ALSO NONE OF THIS MATTERS SINCE THEY ARE ALL ARBITRARY CATERGORIES MEANT TO MAKE THE MECHANICS SEEM COMPLEX AND INTUITIVE WHEN THEY ARE ACTUALLY COMPLETELY RANDOM AND JUST MEANT TO MAKE YOU PLAY LONGER! (I suspect so you don't blow through the content too fast or something idk)

In the game youll be trying to max out one stat at a time to 30 (I'll explain why the 'easier' modes don't actually make a difference, thus '30' and not '25' or whatever the easy # is).

So in Hard mode you almost always lose 3 of a resource and gain 3 of another. You start of 9 of each. and your goal is 30.
So in Medium mode you almost always lose 2 of a resource and gain 2 of another. You start of 10 of each. and your goal is 25.
So in easy mode you almost always lose 1 of a resource and gain 1 of another. You start of 11? of each. and your goal is 20?.

OH BUT THERES FUN MECHANICS LIKE GAMBLING OR CHOSING +/- TO THE STAKES, keep in mind, almost all of time it still costs the same amount you gain. Don't you love feeling like you are making no progress?

Gripping stuff.

TWO. Everything. Is. So. Slow. That might be fine at first, but this becomes a huge drag when you're constantly waiting so you can click the next thing. Its pretty easy to figure out what you want to do next, and the turn after that, and so on.

Three. Literally nothing you do matters, it is purely rng wether you get the locations you need, AND THE CORE MECHANIC OF CONSTANTLY LOSING AND GAINING THE SAME AMOUNT??? You're constantly back sliding.

One step foward one step back god why dont I just stand in place then.

If you chose a bunch of stats to dump on so you can get that sweet sweet milestone? Better hope you don't get unlucky with an unknown cost! Because the things you gain and lose are NOT INTIUTIVE. WHY? BECAUSE QUIRKY! OH YOU COMMITED HARD TO A +4 situation, heres -4 of one stat and +2 of other and +1 of another one. Great! I love being a point deficit because I PICKED THE WRONG OUTFIT, my reward? I get to be stuck in a pit for 4 days.

Also this wouldn't be frustrating if it wasn't so difficult to make a profit (AKA PROGRESS) in resources in the first place. The random wouldn't so contempted if it didn't ♥♥♥♥ with your entire run.

The co-op is literally just sharing a controller whilst playing the same person. Why even have a co-op function? You could honestly just tally who makes what calls or bet on its success and you'd probably be more entertained. Or at the very least it would lessen the disappointment of another false co-op.

I got excited when I saw the characters were voiced, but quickly realized its minimal, one-off lines.

So this game is great if you just want to read look at characters, occasionally chose one thing. Lose, try to avoid the same areas so you don't keep rereading ♥♥♥♥. I don't know I also find myself speed reading most the dialog because its mind numbing. I mean its occasionally fun, but the second you see where the conversation is going they beat you over the head by repeating the same ♥♥♥♥ over and over again. You can only have a divine intervention so many times. You can only do a cutaway gag so many times. Honestly I prefer the "grounded" options because there's at least a chance they'll fail instead it of it miraculously succeeding every time.

I'm probably just not the target audience, but this frustrates me so much because if mechanics weren't bonk this could be a cutesy text based death road to canada.

I love road trips. I love high stakes. I've been in those situations with close ones where you whittle each others sanity away because of the lack of amnenties and having to improvise. This doesn't feel anything like what I expected.

[b]This time we roadtrip | KAMGUSTA's MINI REVIEW[/b]

Third installment of the series. Publicized as a "dating sim", it's more like a teen cartoonish parent-approved visual novel, as you have limited choices and everything is dialogue based. Speaking of that, it's unacceptable for this type of game that it's only in English - if that is not your mother tongue, don't buy it, you'll miss 50% of the experience.
It's somewhat enhanced from the previous ones, as you can now roam around a map, but it would have been a nicer experience with some sexual references, like robotic ABS, big monstrous titties, nice furry asses. As it is now, it's an okay game, just boring.

I'm ashamed to say I've waited so long to leave a review. but after all these years, playing these games since monster prom, I've finished end of the road, and it hit me just how important in my life these games have been. i can attribute my egg cracking and realizing I'm a woman to Milo in monster camp. the characters and stories have shaped me as a person and stuck with me all these years and the games still make me smile playing monster con.
the humor Isn't always for everyone, the gameplay isn't always groundbreaking, and 100%ing can be tedious. but these games are worth your time. there's so much love and care put into the characters and stories and every little detail in the games is hand crafted with the intention of brightening someones day.

i want to thank the devs directly for this series, I will carry their characters and stories with me the rest of my life, and i love to search for every event and outcome in every game so i can appreciate as much of the games as i can. I'm really excited for what comes next beyond monster con. and ill always come back to mon trip, camp and prom. these games are a labor of love and i love these games in turn.

This game is fun, but in contrast to the other Monster games this also tends to have some sort of thoughtful side to it. It feels slower and a little (really just a little) less bonkers. When i finish a roadtrip it feels much less like a wild trip of ecstasy (as Monster Prom), but more like magic shrooms taking you on a journey and leaving you with a lot to think about behind. Also I cried at the credits.

I played a run as Hana. aka Vicki. In Japanese "Hana" means 7 Wings. Odd for Vicky but since she is a person put together of other persons, She probably has Feathers in there somewhere(hane also means feather)

But I FINALLY got a GOOD ending in Monster PROM! The first time I reached an ending in Monster Prom 1 I unlocked a secret bad ending!

And somehow... I picked up Vicky as my hitchhiker while playing as "hana" and totally messed up our date night.

And yet I got the MVP ending before I even started Week 5.

I also name Zoe DaiYabai when I play as her. Yabai means well everything you want it to mean in Japanese. It is at all times unknowable and knowable. So DaiYabai can mean "The Big What in The World?"

This is a wonderful game. It's also a lovely game to play if you feel a little frsutrated by Monster Camp and Monster Prom.

I mean Yes, I wanted to have a date. But it feels great to get a MVP ending as a single Theydy at the end of the fourth week on normal mode!

A pretty big shift from Monster Prom as far as game play goes, but it's a welcomed change. Same hilarious dialogue and gorgeous/colourful art. Will always be a fan of this series.
