Probably one of my most played games. Deserves way better than the current mixed rating.

I wish there was a better way to automate some of the student progression: summoning and upgrading wands. I think it would be very nice to sit back and watch a fully built school operate itself for a bit before moving on and starting a new save file. But other than that I think the game is fantastic. Are there things to be improved, of course. But there isnt a game (that I know of) that lets you build a wizard school as fun as this one
Really enjoyed this game, played on normal difficulty and didn't find it hard. You really need to like micromanaging if you want to get into Mind over Magic. Not only all the characters, but also the resources and different rooms of the school you build must be planned ahead and changed to succeed. The classes and races felt diverse enough to make certain choices of whom to send to battle and what other roles they play necessary. Relics can be used to enhance specific characters or use as a school wide buff. The art is great and the AI of all characters felt good enough. The game could use some more QoL changes, especially regarding relics equipment and trials tracking. Overall can recommend this game!

Wonderful little game that's pretty underappreciated. It's like a lighter version of Oxygen Not Included. Not to say that it's a casual game, it still has some bite to it for those willing to get their teeth sunk in, but it is much more accessible while still being fairly similar in nature.
Needs are fairly basic and most of the fun of the game comes from fulfilling the (intentionally) strange room requirements. To get the biggest benefits, some rooms will have requirements such as being at the top of a tower, or having one wall taller than the other, which shakes up your building style and offers interesting challenges of how to fit everything together. You end up with a hodgepodge building that feels very wizard-y because of this, with seemingly nonsensical decisions, such as a room just completely suspended by pillars instead of being part of the building baba yaga style. It really does make you feel like you're building a strange magical building and I absolutely love this part of the game.
There's some basic JRPG combat that is somewhat unbalanced but fun enough to provide a little distraction every now and again when you're waiting for other stuff to happen. There's a light narrative and an 'end' to the game which is fun to persue, but at time of writing i'm still not quite there yet, but having a blast so far.
I'd really reccomend checking this game out, especially for the price. I got it on sale but honestly would have been very happy paying full price for the amount of content I got out of it considering that its still quite cheap even at full price.

整体游戏系统和缺氧很像，如果有玩过缺氧应该非常容易上手。在缺氧的基础上大幅简化了自动化机制，删掉了缺氧那个极其复杂的自动化系统，绝大多数时候靠缝合物就可以解决解放生产力的问题。
缺点：优化也忒差了，中期开始帧数就逐渐往下掉，从60+掉到30再掉到10，到快通关的时候，经常会有个位数的帧数，任务管理器里CPU、GPU、RAM都没有吃满，纯纯的程序本身调度问题。

검색해도 정보나 공략이 거의 없던데 그래서 더 재밌게 즐긴듯
산소미포함처럼 복잡하지도 않아서 게임내 설명만 봐도 충분합니다
제가 게임모드 조정 안하고 엔딩 봤으니까 난이도는 쉬운 편ㅋㅋ
방 목표 맞춰서 건설하면 그래픽 예뻐서 좋았어요

Ich habe auf normaler Schwierigkeit gestartet & die Tutorials an. In der ersten Stunde kippt ein Zauberer um und stirbt zeitnah: Alle Werte im Statusboard sind mittel oder gut - Werte wie Hunger, Schlaf, Freizeit oder Überzeugung. 100% Leben und 50% Mana... Es gab keine Warnung, dass irgendwas falsch läuft oder so. Warum und wieso stirbt direkt einer am Anfang? In ähnlichen Games wie Rimworld beisst dich ein Tier fies => Ende Gelände, in Oxygen Not Included hat eine Doofnase den Rückweg abgebaut und erstickt im Erdloch. In MOM bleibt mir nur ein großes Fragezeichen. :-(
Zusätzlich tue ich mir mit dem Interface schwer. Ich bin inzwischen knapp 40 und meine Augen sind sicherlich nicht mehr die besten und ich spiele nur auf Full HD. Die Schriftgröße / das UI variiert aber unglaublich schlecht! Einige Texte sind 6px groß, andere aber 30px / 36px. Die Barrierefrei-Optionen im funktionieren leider nicht angenehm.
Theoretisch wäre das Spiel voll mein DIng; das mir ein solches Spiel alleine wegen der Textgröße nicht zusagt - wäre mir bisher nie in den Kopf gekommen. Und auch das Gameplay? Mein persönlicher Vergleich ist Oxygen Not Included. Natürlich soll es nicht 1:1 sein. Aber wenn der Start schwerer ist, macht doch ein paar Hinweise mit rein.... das max. performen am Ende ist doch vollkommen unerheblich vom Spielstart
This is a lovely game to sink in a few hours at a time. would recommend if you love management sim and magic school genre :) the game is well elaborated - It's a bit more fully rounded now and the game feels like it has purpose but at the same time you can easily just play to see how far you can take your school.
I was a ghost and I don't know how I become one. All I know I have a mission to build school mages in this cursed land. Names Maxwell BTW. I try to recruit 3 mages to help me organized the school. They are wolf dude name Edith, a doll guy called Hector and a male human, Matilda. We try to build and construct some room. Due to my inexperience, it was a rough days for us. No food and my staffs have to sleep on the floor except Edith. He seems he has his way for getting his own food and doesn't mind sleeping on the floor like wild animal. Days has passed. we finally manage build some basic stuff like a classroom, a crafting room, a kitchen and also a room for my staffs to sleeps. And we finally manage getting everything run and perform 1st ritual to repel the cursed fog. All seems looks normal, except one day Edith comes to me and request me that he want to be the same room with Hector. Uh well, sure I don't mind. And just like that, now they are roommate I guess? Ahem...anyway let's continue
Then after several days later, we finally be able to teach some students. They are 2 doll dude names Birdie and George, a beautiful wolf names Clara and 2 human boy names Francine and Allan. Clara and Allan about to graduate. They both looks so excited and this is the first time I graduate my student. I and 3 staff held ritual ceremony. Allan goes first as we channeling our energy on to him. The light shine bright from his body and then poof. He turn into cracking comb. Clara scream. Me and my staffs stare in surprised and confused. I open my codex book and realize that by graduate them, it means turning them into relic. The hell? I flip the pages if there is a way to turning him back. But unfortunately there is no way to return him back. Matilda suggest we should just keep it and I agree. I reassure Clara that we won't do that graduation again. She just sobbing and nod. Poor girl, she must in shock.
As an alternative, we promoted them into staff. Getting more help to run the school isn't a bad idea. After days pass, we have more new students. There are some students moment I cannot forget. One of them is a bird race name Dax. He just loves tree and plants. And he got himself killed 2 times and have to revive him 2 times, trying to be friend with trapdoor vine. Talk about plant enthusiast but now he is an expert of plants. Then there is a nerd wolf boy name Lazio. I force him to do dancing lesson all night long just to appease a dragon that want to reach its puberty. I smack his face, yelling "WERE YOU RUSHING OR DRAGGING?!!" every time his off the tempo. Then there is also a human boy names Maven who is the slowest and the most useless in the entire students that I ever meet. But his commitment is another level. He kept pushing himself through the research and studies relic every day every night. Now he is the master of all them and with his devastating lightning, he is the one leading the group who defeated the final boss.
Ok, seriously this is absolutely a very fantastic game sim building. With many challenge to me you engage, it didn't bored me through the end. I usually stop playing sim game when things get too comfortable but this one doesn't do that at all. One of my complain is the UI design should be more friendly. For the complexity, I think it do the great job as I can understand through the help search and informative codex. Definitely recommended this game those who like challenge sims game

Если коротко я бы поставил этой игре 8 из 10 баллов.
Игра реально затягивает, ты буквально сидишь и выращиваешь всё новых и новых студентов, аспирантов и преподавателей. Строишь для них их волшебный ПТУ. И поначалу у тебя даже получается. А потом их начинает – тошнить и рвать. Они выпиливаются всеми возможными способами. Моя особая боль это Некроманты – эти ребята утомят своей потребностью в лунном свете, как я устал отправлять их каждую ночь в другой конец карты рубить лес. Потом додумался поставить лунную лампу в столовую и комнату развлечения. Сама квестовая цепочка игры не очень длинная, но благодаря интересному процессу тебе слегка не по неё и это большой плюс игре. Ах да очень красивое оформление комнат при соблюдение всех условий, особенно магических залов. Очень надеюсь на ДЛС которые расширят функционал и глубину. В таком случае с удовольствием пройду снова.
I've tried playing many versions of this over the years of development, but inevitably it feels like work and another playthrough is abandoned. Now that the game is officially done and abandoned, time for a review.
Mechanically it does many things in a novel or interesting way: limited 3d map, dynamic groups, room puzzle, turn-based combat.
Difficulty tuning also seems alright: on easy you can mindless fast forward, on hard you need to think and micro but it's not impossible.
Perhaps the reason why it'd so dull is that it cannot decide between being an efficient factory pushing back the fog, and a fun school full of memorable characters, danger and drama.
On the efficiency side, even with groups, priorities, schedules and permissions it's still really difficult to just make pawns pick up nearby tasks instead of spending half a day walking to opposite sides of the map. It becomes an excercise in watching everyone constantly and manually telling them to not be dumb.
On the character side, there is way too much churn through students to remember or care about any pawn. Pawns also have all the personality of quilted bots, seemingly on purpose, going as far as giving humans "body types" anticorrelated with the name pool. No random chat bubbles while walking past their supposed friends, instead you get "-15 sad" buried in the stats spreadsheet.
Don't expect any of the Rimworld-style developing story here.
Overall, feels like design by a corporate commitee optimized for inoffensiveness and a feature checklist. Ironic, considering the developer self-styles as "sparky".

This game is deeply strategic. Running a magic school is just a backdrop to that
4/10 to 6-7 in early/mid game. Cool ideas, but not polished enough for me.
Early game: fun, cool mechanics, when you put room together it looks nice.
Mid game: trying to pull out how the ♥♥♥♥ do you combine all of the different room with different keywords and how then can even connect to each other + finally realizing what is the end game of this game and trying to move into it is making the game interesting.
Late game: micromanagment hell, changing anything breaks so much that everyone who used this room will start having ptsd and trying to destroy everything and themselves. Also priorities in this game is soo bad, to cook a person need to go collect the ingredients and then go to the station, because delivery can't deliver to station, only to chests, so they go one by one which make it ineficient and because the keywords don't let you combine rooms easly it's nearly impossible to build anything that won't have this problem.
I kinda liked this game, it had purpouse, even though:
- the "creative" part of this game is lacking
- can't tell where on the wall is door, stairs, etc is soo painfull
- "luxury" items are so limited that most of the rooms look the same
but the thing what just told me to get away from this game were:
- bad priority system, even though I prioritized my mages to do certain things they would rather run around doing anything, had to force gathering/certain jobs myself and manage it myself otherwise they wouldn't do it ever and when I raised priority everyone would come do it
- notification system is horrible, they notify you and stop game if mushroom appears and if somebody is dead, but they don't care to show you on read or anything if somebody is unconsious and WAITING for revieve, yes you mages will put others in bed, but to revive them you need to SPECIFCYLY WAIT FOR THEM TO PUT THEM INTO THE BED AND GO CLICK REVIVE, OTHERWISE THEY WOULD DIE
- changing any major room, like sleeping coursters for students takes ages and students in meantime will die like flies, because they live day from day, if one day sucks for them, then oh boy next they they will be dying
After changing dificulty to 3x resources gathered and no conviction (morale system) it was an autoplay, way more enjoyable, but still, it made it more or less an idler game.
Also the combat system while cool idea it's not polished. You have 8 levels of element, but mostly have 3/4 skills, it could be way more advanced, but it's very basic, dmg, like 4 types of buffs, that's it. And it's only 3 bossess, so the "sandbox game" is not much sandbox, after killing last boss you have option to "win the game".

I really want to recommend this game, and the first 60% of it is great. Tight resource control and actively weighing if you can expand or not vs having the materials to repel the fog. Interesting design choices with rooms and battles were engaging. Then you hit the last 40% and its just a slog. Resources are plentiful, and the aegis means you never need to repel the fog anymore. You just wait for people to train and to collect resources.
I looked over a few Reddit posts and agree that it feels the game is missing a core feature or 2 for the late game, something to keep me engaged. I ended up clicking on a quest then leaving the game on 3x speed and read a book while I waited for it to finish or a event that needed 30 seconds of manual intervention.
I also discovered the information on both their official wiki and the fandom was either out of date or just missing.
Either way, if they add some new content or features it may be worth it, but I feel the game drags on way too much towards the last half of the campaign.
It's a very nice game, just not for me.

还挺好玩的，很上头
After many hours, during which I was patiently hoping for the game to get better, or to achieve some kind of flow, I sadly have to change my review from cautiously good to disappointed. This game doesn't get better the more you figure it out. It gets worse.
I'm sad to say that. The game shows so much potential in so many aspects in the beginning. In the end though, it continously frustrates and disappoints. "Complexity for complexity's sake" seems to be the main offender. It gets more complicated the longer you play while never reaching the depths other games in this genre - mainly ONI - do. More importantly, you can't trust this game. Too many design choices are just mind-boggingly bad. After well over 100 hours into the game, I'm giving up.
Some examples: Scheduling, a very important part of the game if you want to keep your mages happy, is an overcomplicated mess. You're constantly re-designing, renewing and deleting schedules while totally losing oversight. Not a very fun task if you ask me. Research sequences don't seem to be in the right order. There's too much you simply can't do at first because of research barriers, and while I get the reasoning behind that, it rarely feels organic or earned when you finally get there. If you haven't researched certain higher tiers and try to nurse your dragon to adulthood, you'll get severly punished for the rest of the game without a chance to reverse your mistakes (not entirely sure about that, actually. But I don't trust the game anymore). The priority system needs constant work. New trials for the initiates need constant work while often being repetitive. And so on.
You won't get better or develop some sense of achievement the longer you play. You just get more of everything, with challenges that never really change. More toons, more problems, more resources, more schedules, more rooms. And, everything demands your attention constantly, or else. In ONI, you figure out some systems or rules that seem to work, and are actually allowed to let them simmer for a bit while facing new challenges. This is not possible in MoM. Found a good schedule for your initiates? Here, have a problem that makes everything obsolete. Built some rooms and figured out a good layout for your school? Yeah, you'll need to tear it all down some hours later because it just doesn't fit in with the new rooms you'll be able to build now.
It really gets tiresome at some point. I don't even want to see the endgame anymore. It really has become too much of a drag.
I put a lot of hours into this waiting for it to get good because I really like the concept and aesthetics, but it never got there for me. The standard gameplay difficulty is built around literally random and arbitrary building rules, combined with students/staff constantly losing their minds and destroying the school.
Starting another run on the easy/freeform settings, I made it much further, but it still wasn't very satisfying. There's so much waiting around for tasks to complete because the majority of them are restricted to staff, of which you can only have a few. The underschool dungeon chambers are a cool idea, but there is very little depth to combat so it's a drag to have to explore in order to progress. All the other reviews that talk about unbalanced late-game resource scarcity are dead-on; it's a real momentum killer.
Tragically, this is a thumbs down. Maybe check it out if there's a steep sale.

中期：建房子的时候一时裂缝，一时来瘴气化身，火法又失去优势了，乌鸦人又说不吃稻类食物。因为游戏的职位分工太细，导致工作效率极低。人走来走去看起来很忙，实际上什么都没干。又因为工作效率低，导致日程表无法正确执行，人经常会做出不符合日程表的行为。
后期：尼玛一个分形霉菌箱72个符木，一个鸣钟塔要60个焰铁。那我问你，我的资源是不是天上掉了下来的？你游陷阱藤箱收获一次才2-3个荆棘齿，一个焰铁要2个荆棘齿。你游又多久能收获一次陷阱藤箱？玩到这个阶段就已经是纯粹的在坐牢资源等收集，在最后阶段故意卡资源来拉长游戏的无效寿命。与其卡资源恶心人，不如把毕业的门槛降下来，这样玩家毕业还愿意继续经营自己的学院，而不是在等待资源收集的时候把玩家的耐心都消耗殆尽。
Great game
It took a few tries for me to really fall for this game. But once I did, I fell hard.
If you're a fan of games that give you a never-ending list of tasks to constantly check off, this one will will satisfy that particular itch, and look pretty while doing it.
If you want something that's based more in building one thing, then moving on--rather than constantly redesigning what no longer works--you may find this game frustrating and repetitive. It does help to figure out some best practices for the early game to minimize the amount of redesign you need to do later. Thankfully, there are some good guides out there if you'd prefer to skip that learning curve.
If you're having difficulty getting into it--or, like me, played at launch, but didn't enjoy it very much--I *highly* recommend futzing with the difficulty settings. They were added later, and give you tremendous control over every aspect of the game. It feels like the default difficulty settings should be more like suggestions than tiers of challenges to beat, and the most satisfying experience will come from tweaking it to get what you want from the game.
-Have a single event that drives you crazy? You can turn only it off. (Hate you, croa migrations.)
-Not fond of combat? Turn the enemy hp and damage down to low so it's more like a mini-game to complete tasks.
-Only want to build? You can switch between the different presets and their shuffled variants after starting a game, then pick the combination that seems the most interesting in the moment.
-Find resource gathering obnoxious? Turn up the item yield.
And if you haven't made it to the quest system, there's an entire chuck of the game waiting to both give you lore and help you flesh out your mages.
I'm very glad I gave this game another dive. If I hadn't, I'd have never squeed with delight over a tiny Shattered staff member sitting on a couch with a cup of tea, wiggling little feet that don't touch the ground. 10/10, will never skip libations again.

很少玩這類型的遊戲，而且老實難度有點超出握的能力所以玩得很茫然，但慢慢摸索還是好玩的……
I have never seen more toxic difficulty design in my life. This game has you role playing as an overstressed overworked secretary desperately trying to make sure that no one recreates without their cuddle buddy because absolutely no one is capable of managing their own life without your direct control. Someone on the verge of a breakdown because they aren't getting enough sleep? An automated schedule telling them to take a nap would help. Except it doesn't, because if they sleep without their cuddle buddy they get an even worse debuff to their conviction than if you just let them stew in their misery. Instead you have to manually order them both to go to sleep at the same time. God help you if one of them gets injured and they need to spend time in the hospital, there you get the 'I'm hurt' debuff alongside the 'I didn't sleep with my buddy' debuff.
At the same time as all of the scheduling nightmares you will be dealing with, guess what? It's a terrible inventory simulator as well! Be sure to stay on top of your harvest limits and constantly micromanage them based on how far you have progressed.
There are just too many systems that add to the never ending nightmare that is inventory/supply management in this game. Some are simple, but when they aren't you just get to be constantly blindsided by new requirements that you weren't aware of.
Ignore my play time, I am going to beat this game out of spite and bitterness. Do not inflict this misery on yourself.
Oxygen Not Included is one of my most played games on Steam, and I bought this game based on the association with Klei and the fact that it has a lot of the ONI vibe. That holds true to a point, and if you love ONI this will scratch that itch - to a degree.
The Good: Great aesthetic. Characters, rooms, and structures look great, and the music and sound are on point. The base building is a lot of fun, putting restrictions on different types of rooms that lead to the kind of quirky, janky architecture that you'd expect of a Magic School. The game consistently keeps you busy, from random periodic emergencies to regular tasks that have to be done, to exploring the Underschool. It also has a turn-based combat component that is a little simplistic but enjoyable and requires a bit of strategic thinking.
The Bad: I have two main complaints. The first is that the game puts some really punishing bottlenecks in your way. Sometimes this is resource-related, and other times it has to do with character skill levels, and they lead to you waiting around forever, not really doing anything, to get the goal you're working towards. My second gripe is that towards the endgame, once you have some fully blinged-out Level 18 mages, the combat becomes trivial. Even the final boss fight was a foregone conclusion.
Altogether I probably won't replay MoM the way I've done with ONI, at least not until some kind of DLC comes out, but I greatly enjoyed my time with it. 8.5/10.

When using the Jade Dragon Expedition, the expedition came to a halt because I didn't pay attention to the requirements. Not only did it take away my two main forces, but the four explorers also didn't die or could not be recalled, occupying four of my population. In the end, I couldn't find a way to remedy it. Was this because I didn't find a solution or was the original design just like this?
