One of the cutest RTS games ive played, it knew what it wanted to do and its tried its best to make a big robot game. Rare instance of a Nightdive L however, them not using the right soundtrack for the right faction and all. The new configuration menu in the files is a blessing too.

Outstandingly fun RTS from the year 2000 that works well thanks to Nightdive Studios' work. Besides the very inventive and fun gameplay, I absolutely love the story, and I'll be focusing on that (in a non-spoiler way).
The [b]story[/b] is utterly amazing. Besides Homeworld 1, this is the best-conceived story I've seen in an RTS.
It's a coming-of-age story in a brutal war. It starts off, in the intro, as very puerile - as is appropriate for the 3 young, dumb hotshots who are the protagonists; but, if you follow the campaign, you'll see the story mature alongside the protagonists.
The ending is a stroke of genius. I absolutely love it. I won't say anything specific, except that it reminds me of some of Larry Niven's stories.
The [b]gameplay[/b] is very fun and inventive. Giant mechs fighting each other, supported by a full array of base buildings and vehicles - which are weaker, but still impactful.
The maps have 3 layers - surface, where you can have buildings, mechs, vehicles and aircraft; underground, where only buildings and vehicles go, but mechs are too tall to fit; and orbit, where the build area is very limited, and aircraft reign. Resource generation also varies - underground has plentiful magma lakes you can harvest, the surface has smaller lava pools, but solar panels work, while the orbit has very strong solar power generation.
The mechs are divided into torso, legs, right arm, left arm, and crew. The parts have some pretty wild abilities - from rockets and laser swords to large area cloaking devices and jetpacks. The three factions are very different, both in accessible parts and armour types. Capturing and researching enemy parts is a big part of the game; you can do wild things like shear a high-tech arm from an enemy with your laser sword, drop your own arm, grab and affix the sheared arm, and run back to base to research and mass-produce it. There are also superweapons, like the neutron bomb, which kills the crews of heavily-damaged mechs. So, you can have the crew of your own mech get out and capture an enemy mech whole-sale.
In short, the gameplay is outrageously inventive, reactive, and fun. The controls are a bit aged in 2025, but not infuriatingly bad. I guess my biggest frustration is that the orbital building grid doesn't quite match the visual layout, leading to slight pixel-hunting.
There are some [b]technical issues[/b]. While the game works fine out of the box, the movies don't play (I'm playing on Linux, Proton default settings). If you stumble on this issue, you can try to install the old Indeo codecs - or, simpler, manually play the .avi videos, VLC works. They're in the TBD directory: Opening and Finale are self-explanatory: the first and last videos in the story; after each campaign, in order, you have the XClosing, YClosing and ZClosing.avi vids. So: Opening, X, Y, Z, Finale.
For making sure the game preserves resolution after Alt-Tabbing, I changed the following nGlide settings:

Старенькая игрушка. Простенькая, даже модов на неё я не нашел (но и не исал сильно). Мало танчиков и построек. Однако, это всё вторично. Самое главное здесь это роботы. Ты собираешь их из нескольких частей, и отправляешь в бой. А разновидностей частей - много. Сделать быстро бегающего робота с ракетами в руках и на плечах - легко. Сделать сильнозащищенного робота ближнего боя - проще некуда. Сделать летающего пулеметчика - и это можно. А можно клепать самые дешевые части и просто наслаждаться их медленной и тяжелой походкой, прям как в Тихоокеанском рубеже (первом, конечно же, а не втором). Лично я частенько перепрохожу эту игру только из-за этих роботов. Ах да, если захватить детали враждебной фракции и изучить их, можно комбинировать со своими. :)

Its a classic, very basic by todays standards. but if you like giant Mechas than you should enjoy this.
Metal Fatigue looks and seems really cool, with the customizable mechs. But it is a bit of a chore to play. I did spend 60 hours finishing the campaigns, and enjoyed it somewhat. I have nostalgia for the game when I was a kid, so that's still worth something. But overall I don't think the game respects time. Units move slow, pathing is pretty bad, and it gets obnoxious quickly.
I can't get cutscenes to play on Windows 11 but other than that the game plays great and is super fun.
2025 and this game has mechanics in it I've never seen in any other game. Pre-building your initial base for the mission for example. This gives you more control over the kind of strategy you will be using each map. Not to mention that every mission has combat occuring on 3 different maps simultaneously with certain units and weapons able to traverse each one. Coming up with combinations of combots is just fun. Highly recommend this game to anyone that enjoys RTS, this one is now among my favorites.

I remember playing the demo when it was included in a CD bundled with an issue of PC GAMER in 2001 (I think), then took me a few years to play the full game because I could never find a physical copy down here.
It´s a shame a bigger studio didn't make this way back when. The concept is interesting and the three tier maps were an interesting addition to the RTS genre. Bipedal anime looking Mechas on top of it made this game unique, plus the concept of stealing tech from your opponents made an over all cool way of implementing it.
If only a bigger studio had been involved and had made a much more polished product it could've potentially spawned a franchise in its own right, in my opinion. I recommend it.

Steames korszak előtt szerintem 3x kijátszottam. Nagyon jó lenne ugyanez picit feljavított grafikával. Harcolhatsz földön, föld alatt, sőt űrben is egyszerre. A robotok testreszabhatóak és úgy is viselkednek, hogy előnyeit használják annak amit adtál nekik. Szép a mozgás is. Az idő eljárt felette, de ha téged ez nem zavar akkor mindenképp ajánlom.

Only issue is in the campaign which is how your "Hero" Units are always meant to kinda carry you, but if they die, you lose the mission. This results in them being backline Home Defense since you're more easily able to repair them there and keep them going, sending out 'Newby' Pilots who you don't mind losing as you'll likely to do what I did and dump all your points into your Heroes.
A very long time ago when I was a kid I would search google for demos and game downloads to play around with. One website called homeoftheunderdogs had a list of abandonware games to download and play. Metal Fatigue was one of the games that I got from that abandonware list. I fell in love with that game and grew a fondness for mechs. Seeing it on steam again 20+ years later was a powerful feeling. Thanks Nightdive for bringing it back.

[h3] TLDR; [/h3] Metal Fatigue is a unique RTS involving 3 factions battling it out in 3 spaces, namely: Air, Land and [strike] Sea [/strike] Underground! You build Combots part by part, Slap on a Crew in that bad boy and let it loose! Build up your base, land and air vehicles, then send in your army to combat your foes from the other factions! Every faction has their unique perks and features as well! [Neuropa being my personal favourite]
That being said.. allow me to list out some Cons of the now Digital copy which I had the physical CD for and used it to play a whole lot on my old CRT monitor back in the good ol' days:
1) Obviously, it was not programmed to run on the latest Operating Systems nor any monitors 1080p and above. So there will be a whole bunch of compatibility issues, alongside graphical issues and a lot of troubleshooting to find what graphic settings work best for your monitor resolution with the least amount of pixels.
2) Unit pathing is downright abysmal.
3) In-game UI is not adjustable, meaning your build list, icons and unit information at the bottom left are all fixed sizes.
As for the pros.. Well.. It's insanely fun once you've troubleshooted the graphical options and hop right in! So what are you waiting for? Get your ass in there and build up that army, soldier!

Classic game from my childhood. A truly unique RTS, I can only recommend.
Beside it's main hook, the giant mechs you can customize, it also has the map split up to 3 levels. Atmosphere, Ground and Underground. You have to manage all 3 levels for success. Quite the challenge!
This game was a demo when i was young. wanted to get it when it was released never found it. Now its available on steam i had to get it. it old school and it is fun. the multi player is localized. to bad not supported for some online play with people around the world. none the less ive played though all difficulties. skrims are fun keeps you on your toe's 8 player map vs AI/NPC. back when war games was truely strategy

처음 실행할때 2개 선택지가 있는데 아래 콘피그 들어가서 해상도 같은거 설정해 주면 됨
처음 하는 사람에게 설명하자면 일꾼 유닛을 용암에 우클릭하면 자원을 캐고 차량이나 로봇 건물에 우클릭하면 수리를 함
유닛을 지을려면 맨파워를 늘려야하는데 밥집을 지어서 늘리면 됨
자원 최대치를 늘리려면 자원창고를 지어야 되고
로봇을 지을려면 로봇부품 공장과 로봇 제작대를 지어야 함
부품공장에서 로봇 몸통 팔다리를 만들면 제작대에서 해당 부품을 선택해서 로봇 조립가능
로봇을 움직이려면 밥집에서 유닛을 훈련시켜야 하고 로봇을 만든뒤 디플로이를 눌러주면 로봇이 튀어나옴
로봇이 근접무기 휘두르면 탱크같은거 그냥 마구 도륙을 내버리기 때문에 결국 로봇은 로봇으로 상대를 하는게 맞음
세일할때 사두면 설치폴더에 배경음악이 있으니 그것만 따로 들을수도 있음.

非常有想法的一款戰略遊戲
最大的特色一張地圖都被分成天空、地面跟地底三個部分，不同部份具有不同的功能
此外還有特色單位:戰鬥機器人，每台機器人都分成左右手、身體與腳四個部位任意組合，充滿無限的可能性
還有一個現在不奇怪但放在二十年前簡直是創舉的物理系統，這個遊戲的砲彈是可以被地形擋下來的，飛機墜機點也會對單位造成傷害，還有很多類似的巧思，機器人打肉搏戰甚至會有格擋動畫
最奇葩的是工作人員名單出現的單位是可以指揮的，是一張真的可以拿來打的圖XDD
但缺點也不少，首先是令人絕望的單位尋路功能，另外地圖上同時只能存在1024個單位.....

Este é simplismente um dos jogos que mais marcou minha infancia, lembro até hoje de ir até a loja de informatica com a minha mãe e achar esse jogo dentro de uma caixa num canto, o valor na época era R$200 mas a etiqueta era tão antiga que a moça do caixa fez por R$20.
lembro das horas que passei jogando no computador da minha mãe, depois no meu computador de casa, depois com meus primos na casa da minha vó, jogando no notebook que ganhei de natal.
Eu posso ser péssimo em RTS e quando criança sem saber ler ingles não ter passado nem da 3º fase, mas sem duvida esse jogo foi um dos que mais me marcou.
Falta palavras para descrever a felicidade e a nostalgia que tive ao voltar a jogar essa relíquia.
Recomendo 100% a compra....pela GOG.

Firstly: I don't know if the game was patched or if it's a matter of personal config but I'm running it fine on Win 11 on a 2k-native monitor (I set the config of what seems to be emulator software that runs at the beginning to 2k as well and then in-game to its maximum 1600x900). It's also worth noting that I have the game on GoG and the version there seems to be fussier (harder to set up proper resolution and crashes easier), though in-game text looks a bit better.
One of the best, most unique and also most underrated RTS games of all time. Yes, it did have its problems but most were simply limitations of games at the time, path finding being one of the major woes. But it also had the best giant robot mechanic ever, I've never seen anything like it outside of a very few tabletop games. Unfortunately it was a new IP coming out at a busy time when some other big games overshadowed it. The game is showing its age now but it is still playable and I highly recommend trying it, if only to experience building your own "combot".

还有一个叫<Compatibility Database (Saleck)>的sb玩意!! 从名字知道这sb玩意是关于增加金属疲劳兼容性的组件,
这下好了, 先是启动游戏直接闪退无数次, 然后就是进游戏里必蓝屏死机!!! 经过好多次的删除重装, 验证游戏完整性, 依然死机!!
我TM就差重装Win10和steam了!! 好一个兼容性增强! 兼容性强的直接蓝屏死机是吧!??
能采访一下这是steam里哪个大聪明程序员做的fking狗屎代码!??
为了不重装系统, 我TMD花了两天时间查找和删除给我安装的文件, 又仔细对比并恢复一堆已经被修改的文件,

Verdikt: Ako to len bolo so Svätoplukom a jeho troma prútmi? Ak by to vedeli aj traja bratia, tak by sa nedostali do konfliktu a nekopali každý za odlišnú frakciu. Predmetom sváru je mimozemská technológia, o ktorú bojujú v 30 úrovniach kampane frakcie Rimtech, Neuropa a Milagro, nie Milk Agro! Misie sú zamerané na rôzne úlohy, no postupne aj tak sa môže dostaviť stereotyp. Samotný boj sa neodohráva len na povrchu planéty, ale aj na jej orbite a pod povrchom. Každá úroveň má svoje špecifiká, klady a aj obmedzenia. Tie si možno podmaniť rôznymi jednotkami, ktorým dominujú comboti, gigantické mechy pochodujúce bojovým poľom, ktoré si možno zložiť z vlastných aj cudzích prvkov od nepriateľa, ktorý nepobral veľa inteligencie, no dokáže vyvolať chvíle plné frustrácie. To isté možno povedať o jednotkách z vlastných radov, no dokáže to napraviť hra viacerých hráčov. Metal Fatigue je celkom slušná výzva pre hráčov strategických hier a fanúšikov sci-fi.

I'm a little biased with this game because I played so much of a DEMO of it when I was a kid!
Sometimes wants to work, other times just doesn't. Also seems to crash whenever I try to load my campaign save. I do wish this game's source code were made available.
In general not a bad RTS, and not particularly challenging when versing AI, but it's still a lot of fun and largely unique :)

Build a big flying mech and give it a katana, what more do you want? I have a lot more hours on this game than what steam suggests... almost 25 years ago I first played this back in the 2000s.
There are other units, you can base build underground, surface level and in sky maps, sometimes all 3 on the same level, switching between the layers as needed.
It is not hugely complex, but, it is fun. If you are into your strategy games, certainly worth a few quid and a play through of one of the factions.
A remake of this would be awesome!

Recuerdo cuando tenia 10 años y solo acceso al demo de este juego, el cual venia en un cd junto con otros demos.
Lo encontraba fascinante y pasaba horas con las 3 etapas que venían en el cd, pero mis intentos por conseguirlo acá en Chile no fueron fructíferos.
Ahora que lo vi en steam no dude en comprarlo! Me sorprende que no exista una parte 2 o 3, de verdad había potencial !
En fin, aun me entretiene un montón y ya tengo 31 años! jejeje

Like other players said; game aged poorly, the visuals are blurry regardless of the resolution you try to play.
Building the robots are too slow, poor in game explanation to get you started etc.
There is potential for a remake but i highly doubt it will be done.
Effectively dumped on steam. I cant bring myself to write a negative review of one of the best strategy games ever conceived. However Nightdive could do so much more than just push this on steam.
Only playable with Windows Compatibility Toolkit. Microsoft wont support the toolkit past Windows 10.
Best game ever made. Me and my best friend from high school used to play this 20 years ago on our home LAN. We would have like battles that lasted 10 hours. I still love playing the campaigns on this game. This game was way ahead of it's time in the year 2000 and there hasn't really been very many comparable titles in the RTS genre. Especially not with something as cool as Combots (mechs).
A cult classic of a RTS. If theres ever a remaster this game will sell amazingly.

works fine if you use direct x on glide and then set .exe in nvidia control panel to have anti-aliasing etc switched on. Set the maximum resolution thru glide for game window, then choose closest to native in settings for interface to be as big as it can go. This will help make the fonts smooth and keep the UI from distorting. Its a really old game so just be glad it still works at all!
