A very competent deck builder. Menace from the Deep mimics the mechanics of Slay the Spire, but the card variety is better in my opinion. The atmosphere and art style are great, with a smooth and snappy UI. My only gripe with the game is that the progression is too grindy. It is impossible to win on the first several runs until you unlock stronger cards that allow you to beat tougher foes in the latter half of the game. Overall pretty impressive for a title done by a solo developer!

This game is incredibly disappointing. It looks good but the interface is completely broken...making it unplayable so I cannot recommend that anyone purchase it.

I want the developer to fix the game so I can actually play it. IT would probably sell better then Slay the Spire if they actually made it work. As it stands now the product looks like con artistry.

Let me be specific. The mouse drops the card, or items I'm trying to use. Then I can't pick it back up...or use it. It locks the entire 'interface'. It drops a card. I can't use any cards. It drops an item. I can't use any items. IN the worst case I had ALL three of my cards, items and abilities floating locked in the middle of the screen.

Sometimes I can work around it. The card gets stuck if I use an item it'll unstuck it. But then I waste the item. I can go back to the menu and replay the battle from scratch. But this wastes my time and is absolutely destroying the experience. FIX IT!

Surprisingly fun "Spire-Like", oozing with Lovecraftian flavor. Although it's listed as "Unsupported" for the Steam Deck, I've had no issues, at all, with the default trackpad layout, so proceed without fear into the unknown!

Menace from the Deep has immediately surprised me with how well put-together it is. Not many deckbuilder roguelikes feel like StS, but this one does. However, it must be said that this one feels like it without straight up copying it. The map exploration and random events are way better that StS, and there is meta progression through very mild base building. The one con I have seen is that it doesn't always explain mechanics through tooltips, even when you hover over them with your cursor. I am not sure if that is intentional or a bug, but it is a little annoying. This game is an easy recommend to anyone who wants to pick up a new deckbuilder roguelike.

Really enjoyed this title.
The events, enemy design and overall Lovecraft vibe does work very well for me.
Nice and distinctive heroes to control, with several 'meta' options for each one of them as you unlock new cards (Slay the Spire progression style).

Give it a go if you are into this style of games, I don't think I'll disappoint you!

The game's becoming reperative and thus boring very quickly. The Elder Ones are not really impressive. Game characters are flat and speak in cliche. I also have some feeling that the difficulty of the game is changing without announcing - the opponents that were easy to win suddenly kick you arse without problem (yes, I know a lot depends on a deck build and relics... but still can't get rid of this feeling of cheating).

A frustratingly unbalanced experience. Some characters are vastly better than others. Some fights are way harder than others. Some items and consumables are measurably stronger than others.

This leads to your run being an exercise in RNG: do I get the hard stuff or the easy stuff? Do I drop the good things or the bad?

Couple that with sub-par voice acting and a lack of card variety, and you have a game which becomes more frustrating than fun.

I'm pretty picky with my deck builders, and wasn't sure about this one for the first 3-4 runs tbh. Like some of the megative reviews say, the progression feels a little unbalanced at first, but by 5 hrs in I was thinking it was worth the buy, and now 35 hrs in, I'd say I really enjoy it. There is a lot of depth in terms of cards, relics, skills, companions, enemies, decision paths, and managing various buffs and health/power meters. Some common deckbuilder mechanics that are missing that would have been enjoyable are the ability to copy cards somehow, and meta progression in terms of increase max health, "charge" for playing cards, etc.. More synergies between the various cards and buffs would also have been nice. Overall, a very enjoyable game. I bought the DLC on sale as well and it was well worth the price.

Great roguelike deckbuilder

It's a very easy one, as far as roguelikes go. I managed 100% achievements within 80 hours, counting the times I would leave the game running and walk out. Would have been shorter if not for the randomness of some of the "complete the relic set" achievements.

In all, the mood is very fitting to the theme. The enemies are very distinct and visually appealing. Cheesing the game is simple and encouraged.

Overall 7/10. Enjoyed it, but probably won't revisit.

It started out very difficult with so many things to pay attention to and mechanics to learn (combo, block decay, what the statuses mean) but once it clicks the runs become so much more fun. I like that there are options to make the game a little easier by taking away some mechanics. Time just flew by when I play this

美术很对味，部分机制设计得也比较有特色，通过多次出牌来升级牌的创意很有意思，喜好这些的可以入了试试

说一下玩的感受，主要就玩了玩dlc的畸变人
装备栏只有三个，明明已经有了部位的限制，感觉还卡三个有点毒，可能一个部位一件比较好
感觉费用很卡手，玩得很牢，唯一爽的一把是拿到“蛇眼”的局，而且加费装备的代价都挺高的
每场战斗结束必须要选一张牌加入手牌，卡组越玩越大，很难受，畸变人的毒牌基本上融入不了他切形态的流派，但是越玩卡组越多垃圾，越卡手
游戏基本都是群怪，很多怪都有无限召唤随从的能力，而卡组里又缺乏aoe，叠加上上面的几点，基本上循环不了卡组，感觉有点不太有趣
不同稀有度的卡牌的差距不是很大，感觉没有什么区分度
词条和机制有点太多了，感觉是比较冗杂的，
综合来说，感觉哪哪都有点毒，可能不是我喜好的类型

Interesting approach to deckbuilders that draws full hands from Slay the Spire, however this is where it falls a bit short. A lot of mechanics or encounters have downsides that are either uniteresting or are punishing player too much. It might be a design decision (in the end you are fighting with the elder gods), but its just not fun.
Story didn't capture me as well unfortunately, even tho I'm a big fan of Cthulhu mythos.
Overall you can pick it up on a discount and enjoy for around 15 to 20 hours.

this is so far a "meh... it's kinda ok" rating, but when you unlock cards to appear in future, you also get cards you will never get to use unless you buy the DLC.

this is a ♥♥♥♥ move like something from a gacha game or typical phone game, unbecoming of a steam game.
if the DLC was great, it'd still be a ♥♥♥♥ move, but the DLC is terrible. it may even decrease the game's fun overall, reading the reviews for it.

so the game gets a down vote from me -- the following complaints would possibly get me to downvote the game later on, but this is just such a ♥♥♥♥ move that I don't want to wait;

other things:
I also dislike that your character that you are using dies if you fail a run. this may be "logical" but diminishes building up "your" detective or "your" professor. this is a typical fail point in many of these Lovecraft games: they try so hard to be dour and depressing that they succeed and ruin your enjoyment.

I want to fight the apocalypse, not revel in it. if I want to see tragedy and bad things happening, I can turn on the TV.

the same spirit is kept with the items.. a lot seem to have downides or side effects. I HATE that design style.
the game overall does a lot of things that diminish fun and seem ill thought out:

you upgrade cards by using them, but:
1) you lose all progress on all cards at the end of a run.
2)the dev does not seem to understand how insanely punishing 3 cost cards are, as they essentially block upgrades on other cards and do not allow another card to be played (unless it's a zero cost obviously).
so they punish you twice: by cost and by blocking upgrades. from my short playtime this far, a 3 cost card is never worth it and 2 cost cards are way worse as they seem to be designed balance-wise
unless of course you ignore this upgrade mini-game entirely and treat it all as an additional "bonus" -- i.e. lying to yourself.

you can deactivate these, but likely with impact on the game difficulty, but their mere existence irks me: the fuel cost and "getting lost" mechanic. it's just RNG that can wreck a run that went well otherwise. infuriatingly, the "work for 75 dollar pay" option is tied to the refuel, so deactivating it may also be bad for you.

it could be that the game opens up and gets less constrained by these BS design ideas, but since the dev has moved on to a new project, nothing I said will be adjusted or worked on....

it's full of these little "anti-fun" elements that have crept into game design in the last 5 years. like you are immediately told early on that cards are a burden, or can become quickly. so many options for dropping cards in your deck for cost or opportunity cost... when this should be designed so cards are never a burden.
there is no need to repeat the few bad ideas that "Slay the Spire" had. devs should instead of copy, improve.

there is this upgrade you can buy at the merchant that heals you for 25% when visiting the merchant. aaaand of course in typical ♥♥♥♥ move style the game denies you the effect if you buy it. it is only available should you (unlikely) run into the merchant again. stuff like this is how I got to dislike the game.

The game consistently stops me from becoming invested by killing my detectives, and by keeping me at arms length with these little backstabs described above.

visual quality and music are great. UI is decent.

I like the story and how it is told. and it is VOICED!!!! this is a true advantage this game has over all of the competition and it is excellent in this regard.

the game is absolutely not terrible overall. but I am looking for a game that I can invest heavy time in and this tries to keep me away. for someone merely interested in the genre, you could do much worse, and it is a good Lovecraft themed game, considering most are really bad.

in the genre, I think Vault of the Void is the only one I know that has real improvements design-wise over Slay the Spire.

Unbalanced AF. I deal not enough damage, my life points are too low, self healing seems rare.

I have a card that deals randomly, 1-12 electrical damage. It can upgrade to deal 1-16 damage and then 1-22 damage. Defense block cards upgrade one point at a time, starting with 5 defense.

A group of monsters can dish out 20 hp of damage collectively + summon adds / bombs every round. You have maybe 60 hp.

I really wonder if this game was balance tested, because the math does not add up. Pray to RNGesus. The game relies on you grinding and failing runs, to build objects like altars, that give flat +hp to characters.

So much fun. Normally not a deck building game kinda guy but story mode has me hooked. Really dig the Lovecraft inspiration throughout. I'm not sure the different character types are the most balanced, but the cultist bleed deck is a blast.

Considerations -
The voice acting for the officer is so bad maybe it's funny?
The story in story mode flies by. I was hoping for more cut scenes and character development.

Joder que gran juego, es mi primer juego en este genero y capto toda mi atencion, es demasiado vicioso y divertido, ademas que tiene buen soundtrack y arte, y su gameplay es muy bueno, aunque la verdad algo dificil pero cuando le agarras el rollo es sastifactorio matar al boss final con un super combo.
Comprenlo vale la pena.

面白かったです。わたしはカジュアル志向の評価としてオススメになるかな？
この手のカードゲーム要素のあるローグライク色々と遊んでますが、そのものは下手なタイプの人です。
そんなわたしでも適度に進められて、大好きなクトゥルフが題材。
強いカードやレリックが揃うと無敵で楽しい！
でも、stsのようにガチ向けカードの部分がメインの評価だとたぶんそこまで高評価にはならないんだと思います。
厳しい人には簡単すぎとか、バランス悪いとか言われちゃいそう。
寛容な人向けにオススメとしておきます。

Слідкував за грою з початку анонсу. Пробував демоверсію і гра одразу запала в душу. Хоча я рідко полюбляю ігри, де кожен забіг ти починаєш з нуля, але тут я цуе витримав і втягнувся.

Сюжет в грі цікавий, хоч і короткий. Але дуже атмосферний. Всі ці різні зустрічі під час забігу чудово додають атмосфери.

Ігролад стандартний для карткових ігор. В кожного персонажа свій стиль битви (не всі карткові ігри цим можуть похвастатись.) Є багато різних опцій гри, тому кожен знайде щось для себе.

Музичний та звуковий супровід дуже атмосферні. Атмосфера так і наповнює кімнату під час гри. Українська озвучка теж чудова. Чого тільки вартують репліки торговця.

Локалізація чудова. Помилок чи ще чогось не побачив. Дуже приємно було грати. І тут я згадую окремих "українських розробників", які кажуть що не має грошей на українську локалізацію. Ще раз, дуже вдячний розробнику(так. він один) за українську локалізацію.

Висновок один. Гра обов'язкова до придбання 100%, навіть якщо вам не дуже до душі карткові ігри.
Побажання для розробника. Я б хотів побачити в цьому сетингу партійну(чи хоча б одинарну), покроокву РПГ. Бо в стилі Лавкрафта таких ігор дуже мало.
