A great story-driven game for the BattleTech universe
I personally prefer like MW5 Mercenaries has, where you can go around and do missions out in the open world, but I've still had a lot of fun with this one

I have to castigate pirhanna for their laziness on this title. The main menu pushing my 6800xt to 99% utilization just shows poor coding and a lack of playtesting. The ai voicework is also utterly offensive to my ear, a sign of greed and nothing else. This is my batchall!

Неплохая игра, в которой в целом интересный и воспринимаемый сюжет и (для того, кто не играл ни в один мехварриор) неплохой геймплей.
Плюсы:
- мехи делают топ-топ и бух-бух
Минусы:
- ИИ напарников абсолютно тупой - союзники любят периодически идти и стрелять в стену и самоубиваться о вражеские мехи
- в некоторых локациях ФПС падает со 100 до 40

This installment of MW5 is very good; with a cinematic aim the BattleTech universe comes to life!
Best to get it on sale though, base game + DLC (essential IMO) is a bit pricey.

Mech customizations is pretty good with a decent array of weapons to choose from, though I'd've liked more. Same goes for equipment to fill empty slots, as the usage of light / medium mechs diminishes mid - late game.

Overall I've enjoying this game a lot. 8/10

If like me your a MechWarrior fan you will really enjoy this game. I haven't played one in a while but this drew me back in.

I don't like the fact that you have to use a particular mech to get xp for it. It slows down the game for me anyway.

There is way to much AI used for character voices etc. It really pulls you out of the immersion.

Other than that go blow some Mechs up it's super fun ☺️

我也只能评价这一代是很失望的，远远不如雇佣兵好玩，如果你是觉得雇佣兵好玩，特意又关注了这款游戏的续作，我建议别买，这一代剧情上我个人非常不喜欢，可汗指挥官跟小孩一样，脾气也是一点就着，上来就要整顿军纪（内哥指挥官说降智的话。就仅仅只是因为我的一个队友说了一句，我们能做到。那个指挥官就觉得顶了她的嘴，我靠，哥们儿你给我整笑了，还特意出一段毫无意义的cg，让身为我的小队队长和那个顶嘴的队员去对质。意义何在？看你们浪费资源，写出的低智商剧情吗？我是来玩机甲的，我不是来看你的低智剧情的，）这不跟小孩一样吗？还有前期给的那几个机甲，不能说拉爆了，也只能说拉没边儿了，还不如雇佣兵前期给的那几个机甲呢。
我玩到了四级，所有解锁的机甲，都要买dlc才能买，你干脆抢我的钱得了，好不好？我这个游戏我不退了，50块钱我给你了，就当做算是我给雇佣兵又多付了50块钱的学费，好不好？
购买机甲受等级的限制？好好好，那我请问，如果我玩到了后续是不是还有更多解锁的机甲让我花钱买dlc才能玩到？哥们儿，我买的到底是半成品还是额外花钱找罪受啊？
玩过雇佣兵的都知道，前期只要有钱能买的机甲多到爆，还有后续慢慢探索，攒到足够的钱够那都可以遍地高达跑了，甚至都不用额外花钱买dlc，而这一代真是离谱爆炸了，我玩到了四级，从二级开始解锁的机甲全都要花钱让我去买dlc制作组老冯飞了，全都飞了，不说什么老人小孩先飞，全都炸了

I love MW5 Mercs, I love the Clans! This game should be a slam dunk right? I have no idea how a game can be under the same "Mechwarrior 5" title and somehow feel so much worse than Mercs in terms of controls, graphics and general feel.

-Character models look extremely off-putting (which I understand is a personal preference more than anything but I only see CG like this in porn or parody videos on Youtube.)

-Unsure how this happened but the controls compared to base MW5 feel totally different, Mechs feel sluggish and less responsive overall.

-Mercs has it's share of jank but it has never had a fatal error hitting the "New Campaign" button.. I can forgive some occasional weirdness (especially in Unreal Engine games they can just be like this sometimes) but after watching a Firemoth get stuck INSIDE a terrain feature I was a lot less willing to forgive.

-My computer is a little on the older side but UE5 seems to have no idea if it can run on my machine either. The game will rapidly switch between 20 and 60-70 FPS in menus and the particle effect light show provided by the Firestarter forced my graphics down to medium (although the rest of the game runs fine for the most part?)

-I do appreciate the vision behind the cutscenes even if the CGI dolls scare the pants off me, the music created for this game is incredible and is the most Clanner I've felt since MW2. THAT BEING SAID: The overall audio leaves a lot to be desired, a lot of sounds feel muted or otherwise totally underwhelming. To be fair I have had similar thoughts about the audio in MW5 Mercs, even at 100% everything still feels way too quiet for mech combat.

I really wanted to like this game, but at this rate I'd rather they just bundle the models into Mercs DLC so I can finally get a Hunchback IIC for my Merc company.

The combat is fine, The mech's are fine, The characters make you not want to fight for the clan. At all! You have one guys that acts like a spoiled brat. You have men not talking like men do. I do not know how to explain it. But then you have ever single white character's weak and pathetic or crazy and not a good kind of crazy. Also why does everyone look like they need to drop a duce. Like seriously look at their mouth and its like they are all bubba from forest gump. Its really weird their bottom lip like sticks out from their teeth about a quarter or a inch. The voice acting is okay. But the story characters are Trash. If its on sale i say pick it up. I mean Combat is fine for the most part. But sometime your guys will get in your way when you are firing and get taken out since you did a full barrage and they stepped right in front of you. I do not want to put a no. But i also do not want to say yes. This is a middle ground for me.

I think there’s a certain amount of Stockholm syndrome with Battletech/MechWarrior games where people are just happy to get one at all but this is just not a good game. It’s an inferior product to Mercenaries in every way, sure it has nice cutscenes but the acting isn’t all that great.

I refunded after a few hours but from what I played the missions were painfully boring, walk from waypoint to waypoint shooting enemy mechs that still have awful AI despite all the work the community has done in Mercenaries to fix stuff like that. Enemies still get dropped right on top of you or just spawn out of a literal monster closet right next to you when you reach a certain trigger point. Maybe it opens up later but every mission I played was just being funneled through narrow canyons until it opened up to a wider area where there would be a fight which you’d clear and then go in to the canyon towards the next one.

The real final straw for me was when looking at the mechs I could eventually purchase I thought maybe once I ranked up and got some more stuff I’d be a little more forgiving. I finished the fourth or so mission and saw all the mechs I’d unlocked only to be greeted by most of the mechs listed for sale being DLC that I didn’t have. Instead of the 10 or so options I thought I had it was actually only 2…

The only real positive thing I can give Clans is that in co-op everyone has a lot more control over all the aspects of the meta game but that’s also something that mods can fix in Mercenaries so it’s a bit of a backhanded compliment.

Even on sale for $14.99 the base game felt like a rip off.

Просто феерический скулёж о том, что игра с багами, вылетами и вообще очень плохая, а кланы «наивные» и «глупые» с точки зрения сюжета (западное коммьюнити здесь особенно выделяется, это нытьё просто уморительно читать осознавая, что нативспикеры могут читать всю лорную литературу и Сарну без переводов, чтобы понять: это не баг, а лорная фича кланов и их сюжетная драма, но нет, 30 IQ скуф из пивососисочной или бургерокольной антиутопии не может без подсказок и горящих стрелочек в самостоятельное изучение темы)

58 часов, все ДЛС, 1 прохождение, сложность Эксперт, максимальные настройки графики, ДЛСС: Качество, генерация кадров х4. За всё это время:
3-4 раза багнулись мехи при свапе пилотов и нужно было походить вправо-влево
1 раз вылетело на предпоследней миссии ДЛС про Волков
2 раза дропнулся ФПС до 60 кадров на особенно огромных картах в компании основной игры

Игра хорошая, надеюсь, Пираньи вывезут сделать ДЛС про клан Нефритового сокола (как раз после Волчьего будет весело взглянуть на Войну Отказа, раз уж Эйдена Прайда нам не показали)

Сюжетно игра и ДЛС около 7-8 из 10, учитывая специфику и свой пафос Быдлотех-вселенной.

У игры глобально только два минуса (с половиной):

1) Лазеры здесь это нуб-тьюб. Любая сборка на лазерах на Штормкроу, Тимбер и Даер Вульфах даст защеку любой сборке на кинетики и ракетах. ППЦ и Гаусски здесь уступают по ДПС из-за скорости перезарядки, что можно компенсировать прокачкой в лабе (но зачем платить больше, если лазеры тоже можно разогнать?)
0,5) В ДЛС про Волков привезли новый нуб-тьюб: ракеты Арроу. Эти балумбы наносят какой-то сумасшедший урон, бьют +- точно, навесом с 4,5 км. Если играть в соло: лучше брать одну нагу в пачку, чтобы она плотно бомбила сфероидов (и союзников ботов) и иногда руками её протыкивать. Если играете в коопе: можно хоть 5 наг с арроу брать в пачку и развлекаться оверкиллами всего, что есть на карте (по объектам урон сниже в 2 раза примерно)
2) Прокачка крайне заточена под метагейм: ты должен заранее знать, какие миссии дадут тебе подышать, а на какие нужно закупаться мехами. Иначе, просто щупая мехов и сборки, можно в конце игры оказаться без прокаченного (хотя бы одного вида) вооружения (чтобы вкачать 2-3 нужно как минимум с новой игры+ начинать).

В целом, если кто-то ждал МВ:М5 Часть 2 про Кланы — то сочувствую (вы наверное и от Киберпанка ГТА 6 ждали, да?). Те, кто ожидал от сюжетной игры сюжетной компании с лорной историей Кланов — восприняли игру гораздо лучше и получили действительно классный игровой экспириенс

If you liked mercenaries, you will like this one. It is story based and with fewer mods. Overall i thought the stories and design elements were true to the source material as far as I can tell (I am no lore expert).

This game is noticeably more difficult to run than Mercs, and this is due to UE5 engine. It has all of the pros & cons there, and I would say mostly cons.

This iterates and improves over mech warrior 5 mercs. The hand crafted missions are an improvement over mercs mostly generated mission system. The new clan mechs and improved customization added to the mech lab is great.

While the missions are hand crafted they are very linear it would be nice if there were branching decisions like in the older mech warrior installments that lead to different mission chains. There is no incentive to play through any of the campaigns twice unless you just really enjoy it.

They did add some new reasons to use the scanning system e.g. opening doors, hacking turrets, disabling mines. But once again its all very linear and can be tedious and generally not fun in certain instances especially when it comes to hacking a bunch of mines to disable them. I did not find it very fun to sit there disabling 10+ mines instead of blasting mechs, I'm not sure what the solution for this is other than just remove the mine hacking. I would like if there was a bit more thought put into exploration, it would be cool to have a less linear path through a mission so that you could explore and maybe find rare weapons or perhaps mech parts (maybe special omnimech parts?).

Also the harder difficulties are tedious or just plain impossible due to your AI mech pilots not shooting enough, it would be nice if you could use the battle map to chain commands for your AI pilots e.g. follow this path of waypoints killing everything you see > rejoin on me. Being able to customize their AI behavior would be nice as well i found it pretty much pointless to equip them with the new Arrow 4 missile systems in the DLCs because they are too stupid to create space and actually use them.

Overall though its a good new installment to the series and I look forward to new DLC and further improvements.

Play in the MW5 universe on the other side against the Inner Sphere. It takes a bit to understand the 'Clan Way" especially if you are not familiar with the lore. Omni Mechs are awesome! However you need to earn your way in order to get access to the 'big boys' aka heavies and assaults.

Если в Mercenaries есть ощущение тяжести меха, импакта от пушек, в принципе серьезности какой-то то тут все как будто супер казуальное, роботы прыгают скачут, как в каком арморед коре. Вообще когда играл в Mercenaries в длс Тень Керенского оно мне и не понравилось из-за этих омни мехов их пушек, если у вас были похожие впечатления не покупайте эту игру

Overall a fun coopable mechwarrior game playing as clans, customizable mechs and the mech combat flows well and feels nice. Sounds for weapons and your mech stomping around fit really well very immersive. Itd be nice if the dlcs were linked to the main campaign instead of being standalone but its also fine they arent. Theres tons of mechs and the mech customization is pretty good as well, you progress through bigger and bigger toys as the game goes on. Newgame + mode always a bonus as well and the difficulty goes from easy to actually a big challenge. Has some pretty cinematic boss fights to boot!

Game looks nice and performance is pretty good for a ue5 game as well.

My biggest gripes are the game has some gimmicks that arent that great like indestructable sheds holding enemies until the map trigger happens for them. like at least let me blow them up? i have a mech with all these guns but i cant destroy them until the mission progresses and the enemy pops out. kinda just silly.

As well as the actual characters and plot are terrible, you get betrayed and taken advantage of and generally lied to around every conceivable corner by the enemy factions (which makes sense its war) yet your faction somehow expects everyone to behave honestly and with civility through it all? its pretty silly that your faction controlling an army is so naiive with its command and frustrating they basically go "no its not a trap the enemy said it wasnt a trap" and then its a trap and your commanders are like "whaaaaaat? again? they said they wouldnt this time! How dare they!" Like cmon, even rats in labs learn better than your commanders.

Lastly itd be nice if weapon balance was looked at, some weapons are pretty weak and others are especially strong so unless you want to use other weapons for the sake of it some weapons will generally just always carry the day for you. Ammo feed weapons especially of the missile variety feel extremely weak, they have the downside of needing to spend ALOT of your mechs tonnage on ammo as you dont get much ammo per ammo bin yet arent even as powerful as energy weapons in terms of dps or having the focus fire ability to wipe out an enemy mech quickly with accurate damage.

However if you can get past the poor writing and treat it like a stompy mech shooter the game handles great, feels great, looks pretty, and has plenty of customization. Overall a good title 7/10. Just held back by some cheesy gameplay mechanics, a pretty terrible writing for your commanders, and weapon balance being not quite there. Worth on sale for sure.

Pros: Mechlab is nice. Cutscenes are visually stunning.
Cons: Crashes inconsistently (can we have consistent crashes at least?). Script was written by a cardboard box.

**Short review: If Mechwarrior 4 isn't an option, just play Mercenaries.**

Note to the devs: I love your modernizations, but I can't play the game as it is. Please invest in human writers and quality assurance.

I have 6 hours in-game only trying to get key bindings and joysticks to work properly (still in Tutorial level!). Lots of graphical glitches, performance issues, bad jank. I really enjoyed playing this game but it crashes randomly, sometimes on startup, and nothing I've tried seems to fix it. There are also no mid-mission saves, so if the game randomly crashes on you at mission completion, you've gotta do it all over again. I finally got fed up and uninstalled after the game crashed four different times in four different parts of one single mission.

Loving MechWarrior 5: Clans so far. The mechs feel incredible to pilot, the story is engaging, and the visuals are a big upgrade. Combat is fast, tactical, and super satisfying.

先不说连日文都有就是没中文这个不知道纯粹是技术问题还是别的什么问题的槽点。
纯粹线性过关+看动画，就那么二十来关，结果机甲部件要刷经验值才能解锁，你这是想让玩家干啥？
无脑堆怪，难度就靠不停给你刷敌人，很多剧情傻的出奇，动不动就是凭空空降一堆人给你加难度，简直生理性恶心，最重要的是靠这种让你一打10的游戏难度有意思？
AI愚蠢的出奇，给你带4个AI跟随，结果连个阵型系统都没有，动不动就是远距离机体开到最前面然后最先死，都这个时代了你连这方都不去试着优化，不知道你们游戏制作方到底会不会做游戏。
DLC加几个关卡卖大几十？你直接去抢好嘛？

Could have great, but instaead it is uninspired with stupid choices for end of campain missions. To qualify I have played every Mechwarrior video game ever made. 90% of them are great or just plain awesome. The other 10%? Missed opporunities, and this one is right at the top. Boss fights..... worst idea for the franchise. AI pilots that are as stupid as they come. Mission scenarios that are riddiculious. Some of the missions have your one star of mechs face down at least a dozen lances of Innersphere mechs, plus some clan mechs, and then a console inspired boss fight. Finding it to difficult to compleate missions with your idiot AI wing mates? Change the difficulty.... except it does not change anything. AI pilots are still idiots and there is no decernable change in the opposition. Mechs that gain experience so as to unlock loadouts? Another dumb idea. To take all the gained experience from Mech 5 Mercinaries ( one of the awsome versions of the franchise ) and produce this is a dissapointment to be sure. I doubt I will ever finish the main game as it is. I will try Ghost Bear and Wolves but do not have much hope for a change for the better in this. If there is a positive note it would be the frame work of the game, graphics, physics, general look and play mechanics. Story is uninspired, could careless about the characters, and the dialogue is laughable. Sorry Piranha this one is a fail.

Amazing game! Love it! A much better entry point to Battletech and MechWarrior than MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. Cool story with amazing cinematics that align with the Battletech feel. Love the way the clans and their culture is portrayed.

To get a full understanding of the culture, and appreciation of how good this game is, I recommend reading the following books:
* Fall from glory (Founding of the Clans vol. 1)
* Visions of rebirth (Founding of the Clans vol. 2)
* Land of Dreams (Founding of the Clans vol. 3)

For best immersion a HOTAM (Hands-On Throttle and Mouse) is a must, and rudder pedals are recommended. If you have a good non-spring joystick, with good adjustable friction, a joystick to mouse converter (https://github.com/mEsUsah/joy2mouse) takes it to the final level.

Unreal 5 is a looker, but very demanding in this game. RTX3080 runs it ok with low settings, desktop RTX4090 runs it fine with high setting.

Но вот сюжетный режим будет поинтереснее конечно, ради него можно купить основную часть и пройти максимум 1 раз

I want to recommend this.
The story is fun, and the clans are wonderfully naieve.

Ive played a lot of MW5: Mercs, and I have to say a lot of the features provided by mods (which are utterly essential for Mercs) are implemented here in a plausibly deniable way, which improves the game dramatically.
Scanning is an inventive mechanic, and they thankfully make use of features sadly neglected in Mercs (like repair bays).
However...

Firstly missions are utterly linear, you are told where to walk, and enemies are presented to you in an order you are supposed to kill them in, there is nowhere to explore, no freedom to plan.
Mobs just dont spawn until youre close enough, rendering long range combat largely irrelevant.
Mech progression is linear also, so you get mechs in the order you are given them so designing your star (team) is pretty dire: long range is pointless and you have only specific mechs to choose from in the weight range, even the pilot skills are fixed.

But the most egregious of flaws here is how unstable the game is, trying to play this with a friend and getting them connected is a constant chore, they frequently get kicked entering missions, and a couple of times we've had to load earlier saves to get around something unknown causing crashes to desktop. My system is new this year, 5090 and other specs to match, the flaws here are not with my system.

Then we go onto the bugs and flaws carried over from Mercs: Only player 1's (me) jumpjets work properly, other players sometimes loose the ability to lock on with missiles when entering missions, and whilst I realise this is not a new engine, and doesnt need to be, correcting mistakes like these should have been part of development or at least come before DLC.

I'm sad I cant play this through to completion, but the irritations are just too numerous when it works at all, just having to reload from saves hours old to get around crashes is enough to put me off, but lack of respect for multiplayer functionality and the utterly linear nature of this game, devoid of any strategy makes me want to go back and just play Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries with mods, because its just better, and I dont have to find work arounds for bugs that the modding community have fixed and/or didnt exist in the first place.

Очень достойный симулятор меха по вселенной Battletech. Сразу отмечу, что не стоит ожидать такой же гибкой настройки отряда как в Mercenaries. Потому что Кланы не какие-то наемники, воюющие на всем подряд, а строгая военная иерархия и выбирать вы будете из того что у них на вооружении стоит.

Плюсы:
-Удобное и гибко настраиваемое управление, почти полностью перекочевавшее из Mercenaries
-Основная кампания не слишком короткая для своей цены, не слишком длинная
-Уровни сложности подойдут как для казуалов так и для тех кто ищет вызова. Не слушайте людей которые говорят что игра слишком легкая. На сложности выше средней вам придется разбираться в механиках настройки мехов и думать что вы исследуете если не хотите внезапно застрять на каком-нибудь уровне.
-Сюжет звезд с неба не хватает, но выше среднего для жанра и не требует особых знаний вселенной Battletech
-Если вы пришли в Clans после Mercenaries, то чувствуется что омнимехи кланов более технологичны и часто более гибкие в настройке чем мехи Внутренней сферы

Минусы:
-Оптимизация. Посмотрите на рекомендуемые и считайте что это минимальные для игры в 50-60 кадров.
-Анимации лиц на 90% состоят из анимации губ, из-за чего часть персонажей выглядят нормально, а часть так, будто борются с запором и пытаются не заплакать одновременно
-Прогрессия сводится к увеличению тоннажа отряда

MechWarrior 5: Clans looks and sounds great, but once you get past the presentation the game has some serious problems that hold it back. Graphically it’s a solid update for the series and the sound design is excellent. On max settings it runs fine on my system (RTX 5060 Ti) and doesn’t even fully utilize the hardware. However, despite that headroom I still see occasional sluggishness and latency, suggesting the game isn’t well optimized.

The biggest issue is the AI. Enemy AI is extremely basic and often feels unintelligent. Instead of improving the AI, the developers seem to compensate by throwing large numbers of enemies at you. Missions frequently turn into a slog where you’re simply fighting waves of opponents rather than engaging in tactical mech combat. It starts to feel more like a horde shooter than a BattleTech game.

Your squadmates aren’t much better. The AI controlling your star is inconsistent and often frustrating. Commands don’t always work as expected, and your teammates frequently walk directly into your line of fire. They also miss shots constantly and struggle to finish enemies effectively. At times it feels like you’re fighting both the enemy and your own squad’s poor behavior.

Another frustration is the lack of meaningful control over your pilots. You can’t really shape their skill progression or playstyle. Each pilot essentially comes pre-assigned with certain strengths (ECM, lasers, missiles, etc.), and you’re forced to work around that rather than build a squad the way you want.

Mission design is also very linear compared to MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. Maps often funnel you through specific objectives with little freedom. Some mechanics feel unnecessarily restrictive as well. For example, scanning objectives prevent you from using weapons at the same time, which feels artificial and breaks immersion.

Difficulty balancing is another problem. Even on normal difficulty the game often overwhelms you with enemies, making it difficult to keep squadmates alive. Since the game only saves between missions or after cutscenes, a failure can mean replaying long sections from the start, which becomes frustrating quickly.

The story doesn’t help much either. The writing is weak and predictable, and the characters telegraph plot points well before they happen. The campaign becomes more about pushing through combat encounters than being invested in the narrative.

There are also stability issues. I’ve experienced random crashes, and the limited save system makes those crashes even more frustrating when progress is lost.

Finally, the DLC pricing feels steep at around $20 each, especially given the current state of the base game.

In short:
MechWarrior 5: Clans has strong visuals and sound, but weak AI, frustrating squad control, poor mission design, and technical issues make it hard to recommend.

If you’re a die-hard BattleTech or MechWarrior fan, you might still want to try it on a deep sale (under $20). Otherwise, you’re probably better off sticking with MechWarrior Online or other entries in the franchise.

С большим удовольствием играл в MW:5 Merc, купил и прошёл почти все дополнения. На этой волне решил взять Clans, но к моему большому сожалению, должен сделать возврат средств. Я читал отзывы, как люди пишут про плохую оптимизацию, но я даже не представлял, что всё настолько ужасно :( Если в мерках у меня на ноутбуке было стабильно 60+ фпс, изредка меньше, то в Кланс у меня 40 фпс в пике с постоянными просадками до слайдшоу и это при выкрученной в минимум графике. И я бы не сказал, что это как-то положительно отражается на визуале... Видимо, чтоб в него играть, нужен ПК с 5070...

The Smoke Jaguar Campaign is fun and feels like a MW:5 game. The 2 DLCs are not - at all. The limitations on mechs, economy, and pilots is boring and frustrating. I understand wanting to do some limitations, but that's not what they did. they eliminated choice. In the mech bay, the entire campaign feels like triage instead of choices - agency. there's no design elements as choice has basically been removed. I finished the Smoke Jaguar and Ghost Bear campaigns and Smoke Jaguars is the only campaign worth doing. I couldn't get 5 missions into the Wolves campaign before I noticed just how bad (lazy) they made the 3rd DLC.

I had a lot of fun with this game, although I did have a few grievances. The UI in Ultrawide 3440 x 1440 was unusable at times to select missions, as the pop up box covered over the selection box if the mission was on the right hand side of a planet, lowering the res and then changing it back after starting the mission was how I got passed it, not a deal breaker but mildly frustrating, and compared to MW5 Mercenaries the maps and missions are a lot more restrictive. Asides from that it was still a blast to play, and I loved the story, lore and characters. The combat felt good and weapons felt like they had power, and the Omnimech system for Clan mechs was awesome.

All in all, a great game for fans of the Battletech universe, and a fun game in its own right.

This game is a great companion to MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries - Clans delivers a more focused, linear campaign which I personally enjoyed. I found the story compelling and the characters interesting - it had a bit of a cozy old school sci-fi feel. Of course the main point is to blast other big robots with your big robot and the game delivers in spades there. The controls and combat are intuitive and fun - I enjoyed the game enough to go for 100% which required a New Game+ completion (New Game+ allows you keep your roster of mechs and various upgrades and restart the campaign)

Veterans of the MechWarrior franchise will know what to expect and this game delivers on those expectations. The variety of the mission types and maps is what makes this game a great companion to the Mercs sandbox experience. I would recommend this game certainly for fans of the MechWarrior franchise but also FPS fans, Mech fans (duh) or even someone that enjoys a compelling science fiction story with engaging and immersive gameplay to complement.

There are currently 2 DLCs available at the time of this review (with future plans for more I believe) and those are both also worth the price of admission. Each DLC follows a different star and clan from the base game so you will have a variety of unique characters, missions, maps and mechs in each DLC.

There are gameplay improvements over Mercenaries, but the overall feel of it is average. I prefer the salvage mechanics of the previous games because that's another overall decision you have to make for future missions. It feels watered down on that aspect. You also find yourself constantly swapping to the other mechs to get a job done because your clanmates won't use all of their weapons. I also don't like I need the other DLC's to unlock the vast majority of mechs. That feels like a cash grab. It's not bad, it's really "meh", I would say get this on steam sale.

I personally think this is quite possibly the worst Mechwarrior game. A more appropriate title would have been Mechassault 3: Clans as it has more in common with that series of games than Mechwarrior. It suffers from some of the same issues which MW5: Mercaneries had, while introducing an assortment of new ones. I was hoping PGI would strive for a more simulator approach to Mechwarrior games similar to the 90’s games, but unfortunately they chose to double down on the brain dead, arcade-y, shooting gallery Mechassault-type of game.

Linear maps, infinite enemies, abysmal HOTAS support, no TrackIR support, bugs and a complete lack of tactics or strategy make this a dud in my eyes.

Some positives: Excellent models, great to see events we’ve read about for decades play out, music has improved drastically and the battlegrid is a decent concept, however it is useless.

If you can tolerate an endless barrage of enemies and are a die-hard Battletech fan, I would consider grabbing this at a discount. Otherwise, boot-up a copy of Mechwarrior 2 or 3 instead. Or expand your horizons and try out Earthsiege, Heavy Gear 1 & 2 or Shattered Steel.

Strange performance hicks aside, I've been really enjoying this game.

The plot & characters are contentious apparently, but I find it all pretty fun. The characters are a lot less bloodthirsty & more competent than many were expecting. There's a chunk of the Crusader attitude in them & this certainly ramps up or diminishes as the plot carries on depending on which character. The story is good, there's a good eye for detail for a lot of the moving parts of the Smoke Jag campaign and some of its key players. If you're familiar with this stuff you'll pick up on it. I also like the cut scenes & voice acting. It suits these weirdos well.

The gameplay is in ways better & worse than Mech5 Mercs. The combat feels a lot smoother & some of the missions are incredible but then some missions are pure linear slug fests, tearing everything apart, Build variety is punished with the less effective feeling ballistic and missile weapons over the endlessly overpowered energy options. The 'mechs are another mixed bag, some are great, some, on the surface are terrible but have some incredible potential when unlocking their omnipods & some are just not in a good spot at all. Things get boiled down pretty quick when you figure out what the meta is.

I don't mind the boss fights, some people say they have absolutely no place in a Battletech related IP but I disagree. Sure, in the table top & strategy game entries I don't think it's required, but for an action game, having some greater threats that require a little more of a considered approach is welcome. The fact people struggled to figure out that shooting the big red IFF triangles is the way to deal with one of these boss sub types is laughable.

A.I is unfortunately very inconsistent, sometimes they do good, sometimes they were born yesterday. If nothing else they're extra lives for the player to use if needs be.

I've yet to get to the DLC but I've heard Flash Storm is a better overall experience & Wolves lets you really flex more in terms of build variety with more open plan mission types. I look forward to both experiences.

I like the game. I Recommend it.

Its great, they fixed almost all of the mechbay issues from mw5: mercs, except that we get omnimechs, but such is life as a clanner. (I know we got battlemechs in the dlc, but that is a sepparate purchase.)

The JJs in particular feel like a massive improvement, could we get these ported over into mwo and mw5 mercs please?

Only issues imo are that skills feel a bit lackluster, the ewar components and some more simpod mission options please.

Longtime Mechwarrior Fan. When the game runs well it's beautiful. I've got a decent hardware setup so optimization definitely an issue. Story isn't the most compelling but it doesn't deviate from the lore. The storytelling in the DLCs held my attention much better than Smoke Jaguar campaign. Replayability is kind of lacking, you do get access to instant action type missions but i wish they fleshed this out more. I've come back to MW5 mercenaries plenty of times but after completing the campaigns I don't see myself playing them again anytime soon. Definitely worth the purchase when on sale.

Most of the negative reviews are from poor optimization or launch issues, which if you can't sort out ASAP i'd get a refund.

интерфейс и механики под консольные игры: боссы, сканирование и сбор лута и т.п.;
туннельные карты - нельзя как в мерках выбрать сторону, откуда зайдешь на цель;
легкие и средние мехи выглядят чужеродными объектами на поле, эффект пропадает к середине кампании, когда мехи становятся больше в размерах;
отсутствует полноценная статистика по итогам боя - сложно оценить эффективность варианта комплектации меха;
на омнимехах нет универсальных слотов под оружие;
интерфейс работает криво на ультрашироких мониторах - для старта миссии нужно переключать разрешение, затем обратно.
диалоги уровня аниме для младших классов, постоянная болтовня во время миссий;
сюжет вообще не работает, т.к. всюду повестка, квоты по цвету кожи и полу и прочая ерунда;
Но все это не очень критично =)

Плюсы:
визуально эффекты от оружия круче, чем в мерках; вначале это мешает, затем помогает создавать атмосферу;
карты визуально красивее и разнообразнее, особенно в DLC;
управление командой на карте;
разнообразнее миссии - мне зашли миссии с боями на космодромах, в космосе, в карьере и т.п. где ощущается, насколько объекты огромны по сравнению с мехами - создается ощущение огромного пространства;
ИИ местами получше, чем в мерках, например боты могут спрыгнуть с горки, чтобы пойти по кратчайшему пути, а не ищут обход (в мерках это бесит), хотя иногда перестают стрелять по врагам, пока прямо не прикажешь, и даже после прямого приказа;
Но ГЛАВНОЕ - где-то в середине основной кампании в бою, где одновременно на большом пространстве было мехов 20 или более плюс авиация, в какой-то момент пришло ощущение того самого "жаркого рубилова" толпы мехов, которого так и не удалось достичь в мерках. Летят ракеты, гудят лазеры, всюду дым и вспышки, а на фоне огромные шаттлы - это было прям отлично =)

Резюмируя:
если разработчики игры хотели погрузить в мир кланов во время вторжения - в основной кампании полный провал, в DLC ситуация становится получше.
если хотели дать ощущение битвы в огромном мехе - получилось лучше, чем в предыдущих играх серии.

Возможно, чтобы ощутить все прелести именно боевки, нужно играть либо на телеке, либо на большом мониторе (30+ дюймов) в топ-настройках и с хорошим звуком. Иначе эффекта не получишь и главная фича игры пройдет мимо.

UPDATE после DLC:
В дополнениях карты интереснее, миссии всё разнообразнее и адекватность поведения персонажей к концу выруливает на вполне приемлемый уровень.

The key binds have been broken for the "Modern" control scheme since release and they never bothered to fix it. If you prefer this control scheme and want to rebind your keys, the game is basically unplayable.

Feels a lot better to play than Mech 5 ever did. Much better balance and the replayablity factor is excellent. I recommend this game for these facts alone.

The first mission was enough for me: enemy tanks that disappear in the ground or fly away....staying alive (so you cannot complete the mission until the game "understand" the problem and moves one....)... no clear waypoint so i had to wander to find the next step. Then suddenly a Dropship release some mechs that only focus on me, killing me. Ok, so i restart the mission: this time NO AUDIO at all......besides the game "stucks" a lot when loading in-game ( I have a nice rig with monitoring of everything: no memory or temperature problem by my side...). Wasted potential. P.S. i have tons of ours in Mechwarrior Mercenaries...

Played through the campaign solo and coop already (gamepass). Best Mechwarrior game by a mile, even better than my former favourites MW2 & MW2 Mercs. Visually way ahead of MW5 mercenaries, real solid gamepad controls. And the mission design rivals that of 90s PC sims like TIE Fighter with the story deeply intertwined. A huge accomplishment after the mostly generic missions of the last title by this studio. Ghostbear DLC is amazing as well, the Wolf DLC is only fine and seems to not have had the same amount of love (aka money / time) as the first DLC.

Total braindead AI and many game crashes because of the worst Engine ever to exist = Unreal Engine
The AI is just running behind you and doesn't fire any weapon. When you order an attack on one single tank, it takes 1-2 minutes for all 4 AI to kill him. Because of the missed shots and that for Clanwarrior. Even the Scum Trash Pilots from Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries do a way better job.

Always been a BT/MW nut but I was cautious going into this one.

I wasn't dissapointed, however. This one isn't about open-ended stompy robits like Mercenaries, it's about story.

Without any spoilers, I'll just say this: The vast majority of the characters were feckin' cool, interesting, and had depth to them.

About 1/2 of the battles had a lot of actual tactical depth to them. Sadly, seeing fire support mechs charging your position when they have the high ground to begin with is kinda off-putting. But sometimes they stick to their roles. Sometimes I was really scratching my head at the relentless number of mechs being thrown into a fight, but I get it. Piranha has to make adjustments to keep the game fun. A 10 minute walk followed by a single 30 second battle and another 10 minute walk isn't fun, so they have to keep it spicy.

Most of the cutscenes were REALLY well written, emphasizing a lot of character depth through really good character expression and voice acting. It was hard to set aside the almost jittery nature of the way they were animated sometimes, but I'm sure that'll improve in the other dlc's. Still some really DAMN good cutscenes that sold the universe like I was a kid again. Hopefully more animation work on them talking in the mechs/back at base in future dlc's.

Наиграв в MW5 mercenaries за сотню часов этой частью я был разочарован.
Графика здесь симпатичная, ничего сказать против не могу, но она остается единственным плюсом.
От сюжетной игры я ожидал хорошо срежиссированных миссий. Что получил в итоге? Набор коридоров со спавном врагов по триггеру, без какой либо возможности применять тактику. Тут нельзя зайти врагу сзади или с тылу потому что он появится из воздуха строго в определенный момент. Здесь не нужно отдавать команды ведомым потому что эти дуболомы всё равно лезут в самое пекло. Враги при прочих равных всё равно выбирают целью мех игрока. И так далее.
С балансом у игры очень большие проблемы. Можно сказать о нем забыли. Я уже говорил, что карты коридорные. Так вот мы движемся по коридору и нас просто заваливают пачками мехов разной степени жирности. В начале игры это еще ничего, но чем дальше по сюжету, тем больше пачек и тем они жирнее. А в конце уровня обязательно босс. Сразу штук 15-20 мехов разом. Не зависимо от сложности. И всё это сводит к тому, что играть приходится очень-очень осторожно. И не потому, что жалко терять какой-нибудь тяжелый лазер 5-го уровня прокачки, а потому что банально дойдешь до босса израненным и тебя просто сметут. При общей большой продолжительности заданий и таком геймплее играть становится скучно.

Мехлаб порезан. Фишку Mercenaries со сбором своего звена из того что нравится или что смог купить и последующей доводкой его под свой стиль убрали. Воюй на том, что дадут. Новые мехи открываются по набору опыта т.е. считай по сценарию. Короче шляпа полная. Проигрывает даже стареньким сюжетным частям 3 и 4.

Больше ни какой работы наёмником - только возврашение из Внешней сферы во Внутреннюю сферу. Захват планет и систем Внутренней Сферы. И истребление коррумпированных и погрязших в кровавых войнах за престол Звёздной лиги во Внутренней Сфере-поганых сферойдов и их поганых правителей Великих Домов. И в завершении этого космического пути-война за обладание планетой Терра (планета-Земля). В этой игре (без дополнений) вы начинаюший мех.воин клана Дымчатого Ягуара (сам-себе механик водитель+оператор вооружения меха+командир в тесной-одномесной кабине многотонного шагаюшего -"двуногого танка"- так как экипаж подобной боевой машины по лору Вселенной игры-1 человек). Сюжет игры просто СУПЕР! Наконец то серия игр Mech Warrior возврашаеться к кланам. I started to write more and more negative reviews on games. Idk if it is I became more negative or games are getting worse. Anyway, here we go again.

Game has a lot of technical issues. I had to spend a lot of time playing with settings and reading the internet to make it crash every ~2 hour instead of every 5 minutes. (In case someone needed, solution I found - to run in a frameless window and limit fps to 60). Put a pile of minor but annoying ingame bugs on top of that and you will lose a desire to buy anything from PG ever again.

Gameplay. Battles are still fun, effects and sound I liked much more than in MW5. Controls are responsive and smooth. Difficulty cliff can ruin the whole experience. The game throws at you tons of metal without understanding when it is enough. Often I had to fight the battles riding half of the mech because I committed in the previous battle since it felt like last in the mission but got a few more dropships after. So the only skill you will be learning for your pilots - damage reduction. But in general - damage is not a big issue since you do not even need to wait for mechs being repaired. Sometimes I would sell damaged mechs and buy the replacement (I did 50% of the game on expert).

Maps - no free movement, corridor like, go from point A to point B grinding through hordes of enemies. No mech variety required, you will end up with "more guns and armor - better" approach.

But this game was about a plot and it was a big disappointment. Almost linear plot. I found no likable character to stick to. It still follows a boring trend where you can guess a character's role just by his look. Most of them have less personality than jellyfish. Ability to walk and talk to people between missions would probably help, but all you got is short cutscenes. Game also introduced a few Chekhov's guns which would never fire.

Finally the biggest pain - saves. There are no saves on demand, no checkpoints, only on the start of the mission and when you return to ship. Person who made this decision should not work in the gaming industry. Game loves to crash at the end of the mission when the screen is going black. I was praying to see the progress indicator rotating since a fatal error would mean that I need to start the mission from the beginning. Finally I dropped the difficulty because of that. Sometimes the game crashes before the mission begins. In this case you have to do all the repair arrangements, loadout changes, research assignments again.

Verdict: 10 fatal errors out of 10. If you want the game you will go through once, check the second ending on youtube and never return to it again - you can get it on sale. But if you start facing technical issues - do not waste your time and do a refund.

Es gibt viel was ich an dem Spiel nicht mag .
Einige sachen davon sind:
-Die Hauptsache die Mechs ... in anzahl zu wenige man darf die erbeuteten nicht behalten und ein großer teil der Spielbaren sind hinter DLCs also man darf sie anschauen aber erst spielen wenn man alle DLCs hat es sind also ohne über 50% nicht spielbar.
-Das anpassen der Mechs macht keinen spaß nicht wie bei MWO oder MW5
-keine Syncro zu zeiten von ki
-Story ist da aber hat mich nicht fesseln können
-übertiebenes skill und Forschungsmenü man Skillt fähigkeiten seiner Kammeraden die dann ausfallen sobald man fertig ist man muss an Waffen forschen weis aber erst zum Schluss welche es hätten sein sollen und Skillt dann noch seine Mechs ... zu viel für ein Story game

Mir hat es nicht gefallen ich geb auch den DLCs keine chance lieber wieder MWO 4 free mit massig Mechs und Waffen oder MW5 da bekommt man auch mehr geboten.

I think the game is very good for not being a AAA title. The graphics are a step up from MW5: Mercenaries and the game does a great job giving you the sensation of piloting a big stompy robot in a dynamic destructive environment. The friendly AI could be better but I like the battle map feature so I can put my mates in firing positions The story is great for anyone interested in Battletech lore, but it's not Oscar material. the voice acting and animations are 'Okay' but it does improve a bit in the DLC's.
