this game is awsome
Lots of fun and most of the levels are really well designed. The gunplay is fantastic. Kind of reminds me of N64 games mixed with Max Payne.
Years ago, I bought that game (it looked so interesting and I'm a huge Max Payne fan)
But it's now 2026 and it's still in early access game status ?!
Now, I bitterly regret buying it: it taught me not to buy early access games...

No game captures the feeling of being an 80s action hero quite like this one!
I haven't had this much fun since causing chaos in Just Cause, the enemies feel as responsive as they do in GTA 4 and the gore is damn near on par with Paint The Town Red. I'm very impressed at how well different level types work (even stealth) only the Jungle level desperately needs a rework (Images of targets at the beginning of level and hints if the player is taking too long would suffice).
The music is boppin' and the artstyle is wonderfully authentic and consistent.
I also really appreciate the inclusion of workshop and level editor and sincerely hope map creators will continue to make quality maps for many years to come.
The difficulty feels right where it's supposed to be, the first couple levels are easy and eventually they get hard enough that you'll need a few tries but not frustratingly long.
All in all a very fun Indie project that deserves more eyes on it :)

it's been S E V E N years since I bought this, looked very promising.
since then there has been one meaningful update. ONE. I check in at least once a year now and am disappointed every time. barely any content, the replay feature STILL doesn't work and is in "alpha" (for seven years!).
the content is very barebones. the level design is boring, although it looks cool.
the style is nice, movement is very cool, it gets the aesthetic of the movies it tries to emulate right for the most part, but that's it. it's a clunky sandbox shooter with barely any content and the smallest and slowest updates I've ever witnessed.
which would be fine for 5 bucks... but this is 20. nothing justifies this price. it is NOT worth it.
may be THE most promising but disappointing game I've backed in early access.

Best action movie ever made. Wanna be like Sylvester Stallone? Arnold? Bruce Willis? Keanu Reeves? You can in this game. Dropkick enemies through windows. Rearrange their low-poly faces with a shotgun. Dual wield M60 LMGs. Shoot grenades in bullet time. Maximum Action is the badass baby from two badass parents: Max Payne and Soldier of Fortune. The game is a nostalgic love letter to 80s action films. It's almost perfect. The game has changed a lot from when I first played it around 6 years ago or so and for the better. There's around an hour and a half of levels to go through as well as some endless levels and things to unlock. Good mod support. The gameplay is so good you can easily find yourself running around levels for hours kicking ass and diving through windows and blowing up parking garages. The art style and art direction for this game slaps as much as the soundtrack.
The only thing that would make the game better is some tweaking to the ragdolls. Sometimes they disappear or start tweaking out. Limbs that get blown off tend to be displayed as the incorrect limb. For example if you blow off a guy's arm, you won't find an arm on the ground but a leg. I also think some extras like more customization and and even a way to physically inspect VHS tapes in the menus would be so cool. Looking forward to more updates.

I have this game in my library since 2020, and it's still barely an hour of content. Very disapointed :(

You get what you see. You want akimbo, slo-mo, gunfu gameplay? You got it. There are other games that do it as well, if not better. Max Payne Trilogy, The Specialists (RIP), Double Action Boogaloo, Stranglehold, just to name a few. Yet Maximum Action remains unique and a short blast worth playing.
Emphasis on short. You can easily breeze through the main missions under an hour. Credit's where credit's due, George Mandell has been consistent in updating and adding more features to Maximum Action over the years; and the level creator allows a plethora of quality content via the workshop. Just be aware that you're going to beat it in no time flat.
As far as the gameplay itself, there's a lot to love, even if there's a few kinks to work out. I love the moments where everything clicks together and you feel like Chow Yun Fat with nothing to lose. Plenty of unique guns, the environment is destructible, and the replay button lets you watch all your best moments. Not to mention that the soundtrack is so amazing that I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it was available. With that being said, the rolling after dodging is annoying because it completely disorients you and the slo-mo has a weird quirk where it slightly pauses before each shot. I'm sure those will be worked on in the next patch.
tl;dr An easy recommend for fans of heroic bloodshed or indie FPS in general. Right now you may want to wait until it's on sale. Not for lack of quality but for the short amount of content.

Крутая игра, мне очень понравилась 10/10
Задумка крутая, контента 0. Уровни из Воркшопа ситуацию не сильно меняют. Уверен, что эту игру можно было причесать и сделать реально классный шутер на часов 10, но, видимо, этого не будет сделано никогда. Очень жаль.
If you like ultrakill you will probably like this game either
Basically, this game is like John Wick but for the PS1. The graphics are good, the NPC AI feels decent, but obviously it needs polishing and some improvements. The gore is very satisfying, the movement is a work of art, and it has custom maps and weapons, plus tons of replayability Via unlockables,endless mode or Beating personal records What could be improved is adding more gore, a rouge like mode and further improving performance.
8/10. For an early access game, it's very good and worth it, especially if it's on sale.

still early access after 7 years... still clunky... only buy when released in other 7 years or at least fixed the gameplay and patched out the clunkiness maybe...
Very fun game to turn off brain and play, mabey have a podcast or a song in the background. Usually i get lost in in these games that for some reason need backtracking but in this one the only map i think i ever got stuck on was jungle.

Este juego tiene mucho potencial para ser una obra maestra, pero esta muy escaso, eso no quita que sea bueno, le hace falta un multijugador porque los bots son idiotas pero es normal necesito algo mas dificil las mecanicas son buenisimas y que tenga acceso a la workshop hace que sea mucho mejor yo les recomendaria a los desarrolladores que sigan actualizando seguido y que le agreguen un multijugador seria muy divertido

Got the game when a friend of mine recommended me this, he told me this was influenced by John Woo's films and they ain't lying, even a few of the levels are straight from them too!
Ever since I began playing this, I got hooked in trying to get the most fluid runs while also beating personal scores in each available level, hell even going with different approaches and weapons.
Everything mentioned just adds onto the replay value.
The endless mode also tests your skills and your usage of the in-game mechanics to the limit.
Lastly, I really like the polygonal art-style combined with the 80's action themed soundtrack, gives it a nostalgic vibe whilst playing like a modern FPS with Max Payne-like gunplay and maneuvers combined.
I'd totally recommend this game!
Will definitely be looking forward to this hitting 1.0, it may take time but for sure it will hit it soon enough.

very Linux friendly and the gameplay tends to be very smooth control wise. it might take you a moment to get the hang of the controls but once you do, you'll find yourself enjoying every level more and more.
i remember buying this around late 2019 just before the start of the pandemic, and sinking wayyyy too much time into it during that point in my life. amazing game can't recommend it enough.

It's a fun enough game, but development has been glacial for how clunky the game still is. Needs more time in the oven. This isn't a "NO DON'T BUY!" but rather a "Not yet."

very fun and lots of action
I wanted to play this game for some years now so I saw it was on sale and decided to get it. I was disappointed by the clunkyness. The game is just very clunky, sometimes you glitch below the map, the slide is very poorly implemented, the gunplay doesn't feel nice and sometimes if you get too close to a wall you will see what is behind that wall. It feels very unpolished, the content is extremely lacking and it has been in EA for 7 years now which is very disappointing considering that the developer is already working on a new game. For these reasons, I can't recommend it.

Игра выпущена в 2018 году и на данный момент тут нет контента, тут нет карт, тут нет ничего, весь ВАУ эффект у вас пропадёт за 30 минут, когда вы пройдёте первую кассету(и единственную).
Не стоит своих денег, игра мертва, карт от игроков мало и в них играть не интересно, по одной простой причине игра пуста.
НЕ БЕРИТЕ БОЛЬШЕ ЧЕМ за 200 рублей.
