Игру, которая заточена под кооп , теперь лишена сетевых функций.Всё началось с вывески на странице игры, что некоторые игроки имеют проблемы со входом через мёртвый как многие думают, сервис виндвс лайф. Спустя 5и летнее молчание и удаление игры с продажи, они выкатывают патч удаляющий, многим ненавистный GFWL. А это значит , что вся ваша статистика сетевых игр, а также ваши сохранения одиночной игры, тоже удалились, ведь всё было привязано к профилю GFWL. Такая версия игры никому не мешала, уже было сформировано сообщество тех, кто играл с этим сервисом . Зачем они это сделали , непонятно, оставили бы всё как есть....Лучше бы починили режим Фракций! Взамен мы ничего не получили, как например перенос достижений или сетевую игру через стим, как было с RE 5. Прошёл год уже с этого патча, и никаких изменений, игру похоронили. Конечно можно с помощью руководств откатить на предыдущую версию, но это уже костыли. В общем очень жаль..
I remember playing this game on my PS3 years ago. I didn't realize until later that it was also available on PC, and I'm glad I grabbed it before it got delisted on Steam. It's kind of sad that I can't play co-op without Xbox Live, but either way, I'm really happy to have played it again

Please for the love of god fix the online Capcom. I don't even think it's that hard, you just gotta spend a day or two talking with Steam about getting steamworks set up for it. It's good on it's own, so at least put it back up for sale now that it's playable without GFWL. This is one of my favorite games ever. Why has nobody else tried to make a game like this?
I'd be screaming from the rooftops at everyone I meet to play it, but you can't support it officially and you can't play it coop, which genuinely makes it 10x more fun. Capcom is sitting on gold here. Both in not bringing this game back to full working order and not making a new Lost Planet.

Why did they "fix" the game by destroying the game. It was being sold on steam and then steam delisted it because cr×pcom decided to kill all multi-player functions....... in a co-op game.... how does that make any sense. My friends got this game and we went through the 15 steps to get this game working because its fun. Now you guys just ruined it.
You can boot the game up and run a benchmark. But you cant play unless youre on LAN with more than 1 pc. Its unplayable in its current state which is sad. I also feel i wont be supporting CAPCOM till they either fix this game or remaster it. A shame because the new RE looks great.

Before I start, I’ll answer this: “Why write a review for a game you can’t even buy anymore?”
My girlfriend (<3) and I were talking about videogame covers and which ones drew us in. Two of mine were Titanfall and Lost Planet 2. The depiction of soldiers fighting a giant alien monster with conventional firearms looked cool, and this gave my kid self an autistic fixation that lasted a while, so I figured I'd talk about it.
I'm also bored at work, and most of the reviews talk about the game not working anymore, not really about the game itself.
Lost Planet 2 was primarily a co-op game, with a campaign taking place on the planet EDN III, but more on that later. This campaign could get quite frustrating, and repetitive. It was built around replayability. Each mission was graded from D to SS, with optional challenges that awarded bronze to gold based on performance. Gold granted extra XP and loot. If you were a completionist, this game was ♥♥♥♥♥♥’ brutal. Some challenges were a nightmare to gold, and the levels they were on ranged from awesome to boring as hell.
The plot was an average B-movie sci-fi military drama about environmental exploitation, and its consequences. The story was told through cutscenes and ambient dialogue, and spanned over six chapters where the players were unnamed grunts from various factions on EDN III, an exploited planet with a variety of biomes (THANK YOU!), from lush tropical forests, to arctic wastelands. There isn’t really a “cast” The players are the cast. Overall It’s serviceable, but it ain't the reason you’re here.
You fight human enemies a lot, and this made the game a passable but average third-person shooter. The gunplay wasn't anything to write home about, but it played nice with the other mechanics of the game.
Now for why this game is “criminally underrated.”
When it clicked, Lost Planet 2 was an INCREDIBLE co-op game. The movement, albeit dated now, was strong for its time. The grappling hook in particular felt fluid, and the levels were designed around it. Vehicles and mechs felt distinct, some smooth, and some intentionally rigid. Weapon variety and customization were excellent, letting you tailor your playstyle and make a character that felt like “yours”. You could even rip massive weapons off mechs and carry them on foot, which I absolutely did.
PERSONAL NOTE: Why have I always had a fixation on heavy weapons?
And then there's the Akrid.
The Akrid, EDN III’s reptilian insectoid natives, are an absolute blast to fight. It’s no surprise they're on almost every screenshot on the Steam page. All the missions that focused on them were the best in the game.
This is where the game shone. Picture four players fighting a passenger jet-sized Akrid, and its smaller minions. One pilots a mech, laying down fire on the akrid swarms. Another rides as the passenger, using their rocket launcher to cripple the big one's legs and stagger it. The other two use their grappling hooks to stay mobile, dodging attacks, then intentionally getting swallowed so they can attack the monster from within while the mech keeps pressure on it from the outside.
That kind of coordination was where everything came together. Movement, vehicles, firepower, and teamwork all matter at once.
It’s also where the game’s flaws hurt it most. The repetitive human combat and replay grind overshadowed just how good the Akrid fights were. When the focus was on Big Bosses, and teamwork, this game was really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fun.
It’s a shame Capcom likely won’t [RE]visit it. Lost Planet 2 is that game that would have a small, dedicated playerbase on a Discord server that would host game nights, and a good candidate for a $14.99 4-pack for you and your friends to enjoy for a few sessions. Darn shame.

I feel awful writing this. I adore this game. And I've never gotten to fully experience it. No one I knew when the game first came out wanted to play it co-op, so I always felt like I was getting half the experience. And now that I DO know someone that would play it with me, it's another victim of Games for Windows Live ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. And now it sounds like Capcom has stepped in and ruined all the fixes that fans broke their backs to make for that. Every single person who purchased this on Steam deserves a full refund, and you should demand one, regardless of if you think you'll get it. Do better Capcom.

Don't just yell at them. Firmly demand a refund, and maybe threaten not to purchase their current titles if they don't change.
I'd also suggest complaining to Valve about Capcom's behavior. Don't complain AT Valve. Tell them you're angry and feel cheated by what Capcom is doing. Valve has a lot of pull in the industry, and they actually give a ♥♥♥♥ what we think, so we need to tell them.
We should take things like this very seriously. Read through the other reviews, and you'll see how much this game means to people. Think about the blood, sweat, tears, and passion that went into making it. And companies like Capcom come along, crumple all that up like a wad of paper, and throw it in the trash. Not speaking up when this happens is how we got here in the first place. Don't listen to Capcom's little placations, saying they're "investigating" this minor "issue" that "some" customers "may" be experiencing. Those are lies. This is a huge, widespread problem, they are ignoring it, and hoping we will do the same. Don't.
They have been working on "investigating" GFWL issues for literal years now. They finally put out the first update, and great, you can actually boot the game and play without mods or a 10-step guide on getting Windows live to pretend to work.
Too bad you still can't play online in a game that was built from the ground up for co-op, and that the "fix" killed the workarounds and mods players were using to play online.
Fix the damn online, Capcom. This could be a great game if you just got off your lazy asses and fixed it.

I loved you like family growing up, one of my best memories from a rocky childhood is LP2.
Not sure why people are downvoting. I understand the frustration with GFWL, but not the devs fault, at the time GFWL was an incredible tool that simplified match-making for developers. It would have been impossible for them to know what would have happened almost a decade and a half later. They've recognized these issues and delisted the game, so they've done literally all they can for immediate fire control. Regardless...
This game is amazing and a definite step up from LP1. The "loot-boxes" encourage replaying the game, you can complete the game with base weapons you find on the map, but "loot-boxes" allow for replaying the game with new weapons that will make the harder difficulties more pliable and honestly, more fun.
The complaints about it being more "arcade-y" are dumb. How the hell did you expect them to immerse players in a game where the graphics are aged more than a decade and a half? I don't understand how people will complain about this, but will happily enjoy the jump from Doom 2016 and Eternal, that was a disgrace with how "arcade-y" it became. The arcade elements are light and allow for the game to be replayed several times with new abilities and gear, there is nothing wrong with that.
The story is diverse, the multiple perspectives gave you a much better understanding of what going on around the planet. It can be hard to follow if you have a smooth brain, but it makes sense why they would all band together because of.. oh you know.. the planet about to experience a global meltdown of catastrophic proportions.. Each playable faction provided unique environments to explore that honestly, was pretty awesome. Seeing all the different biomes really helped me understand how truly massive the planet was, and how much its changed since the events of LP1
You are not forced to play this in co-op, you can play this solo, and well, thats the only real way to play it now unless you are on LAN. (Port-Forward/TAP, tunnel/hamachi, etc..)

And finally, stop complaining about the game not being purchasable. There are certainly ways around this.. but you know what, sucks to suck. I can play the game just fine, but I had to wait a while before they deployed the patches that made it at the very least playable. If you refunded or avoided purchasing because of those issues, and now you want to play because its working.. sucks to suck. Y'all are probably the same people who complained about HD2 not giving out that red cape to everyone rather than just the people who played within the two week period they planned on giving it out...
Don't forget, Lost Planet 3 never existed.
I'm glad this game got unlisted. Its such a step down from the first one in literally every way possible. The forced co-op adds nothing, the slot machine to unlock weapons is BS, the chapter ranking system is slapped on with no thought, and the characters are just weirdos trying their hardest to be "cool". The campaign itself is nothing special either, you get kicked around a few different factions for some setpieces and then have a final boss where they all team up.
This travesty of a game is what happens when a dev wants to compete with CoD and Battlefield and butchers another game to try, knowing they will fail.
Oh, and this game should be labeled as turnbased with the amount of hitstun there is. You take one bullet and now the enemy can just magdump you with no chance of you shooting back. Its even got a freaking movement penalty on it. Such a dumb design choice.
So glad I got this game for free with a drive back in the day, I wouldn't pay for this garbage.

Honestly not as good as the first one, but it is a fun arcade game, just don't get too invested in the story it's much weaker than the first one

great game but can't even buy this anymore
The game has too many minor issues to be enjoyable by itself and without online play that's half the game missing.
The thing I hated most was the flinching, from any little thing, that interrupted all player actions (such as tossing grenades, shooting or basic movement). And without multiplayer the AI enemies primarily targets the ONLY player. 3 or more AI's all trained on you is certain death or you die to an akrid/explosion sending you flying across the map (always 1 hit away from death) to be finished off by a random ranged attack before you can get up cause your character has to spasm out before pulling themselves up... it happens every other level and was consistently the cheapest death in the game that has the nerve to RATE YOU on your deaths... kick to the balls feeling.
oh and f*** having a story, whatever you call this "confusing series of random shmucks killing each other..." who needs a reason? First everyone wants the energy then, in the end, all the people fighting randomly decide to stop global warming invoked by taking that energy from the planet...???? Without multiplayer this game really feels half baked.

Back in the day this game me and my friends would play non stop on the weekends.
We looked forward to doing system link on the Xbox 360. Never did I think in 2026 would I not be able to play online, and relegated to a LAN party.
Worse of all on if you played it before on PC you lose everything form your save.
Most of my hours are on Xbox, and you can still play online there.
The fact you can't play online for PC is insane to me.

I played [b]Lost Planet 2[/b] a long long time ago and wanted to give it a replay to see how it held up and damn if this game won’t make you realize how much the AAA industry changed for the worst.

Mission-based third person shooter with a grappling hook to give you some extra vertical mobility.
You’ll be going through setpieces between 10 and 30 minutes long while engaging with the environment to either complete objective or scavenge for equipment.
A cool mechanic featured is that of a “heat” gauge, a resource used to both heal yourself when damaged, and pilot mechs and turrets, heat constantly ticks down and you replenish it by defeating enemies or activating checkpoints.
Everything In the game has its weakspots that takes massive amounts of extra damage, for human enemies it’s the head, while for the giant insectoid enemies and mechs are the glowing orange parts of them.

Here’s some lore: giant alien bugs can absorb heat from their surroundings and are attracted to hot zones, this drags a naturally hot planet into a perpetual snow-age.

Grappling hooks, pilotable mechs, giant bug enemies, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy story.
Oh yeah, it’s peak.
The campaign setpieces are awesome, locales meticulously crafted to both reward exploration while being on par with the more linear shooter campaign.
Everything is also so A H E S T E T I C and cool it doesn’t even feel like a game that could’ve came out back in 2010.

This game was shown to me by a friend way back during my xbox 360 days. This is singlehandley my #1 favorite videogame, for nostaglia sake. I tell everyone i meet when they ask, I glaze the ♥♥♥♥ out of this game. If you've never played it, you're missing out. A classic gem.

Lost Planet 2 has been an obsession of mine for quite a number of years. I used to play it when I was young, and it is still something that I do today. However, at the very end, you pretty much spoiled the whole thing. My save file with 126 hours of gameplay is nowhere to be found, and the whole multiplayer mode doesn't work.
What makes it even more awful than that? Is the way you dealt with this title throughout the time. Instead of supporting and keeping it, you just let it disintegrate. There was neither communication nor transparency, and absolutely no real maintenance effort on your part. When the player base was screaming for bug fixes, and decent stability, our requests went unanswered. and, when they finally arrived, the modifications only made the game worse.
The DRM, the obfuscation, the disabling of features, these actions didn't help the game, they suffocated it. It seems like the community was deliberately buried at every turn of the road rather than being assisted. While some other companies take care of their games and even make them accessible to users who keep them up, you went the other way with Lost Planet 2.
And the saddest thing of all is that you chose to overlook not only the most important aspect but also the very core of the game. Lost Planet 2 revolves around the themes of cooperation, staying strong, and battling the enemy together no matter the odds. The message of the game couldn't be any clearer:
“If you can hear my voice, then I beseech you to put aside your differences and stand with me as one... There is nowhere else this time... Our place is here on this planet... now it is time to tap into that same resolve to protect what they struggled to build.”
Those are the words that constitute the essence of the game, the very idea of standing together, preserving something that is of value, protecting what has been built. But your behavior is, in fact, very far from this message. Instead of doing the job of the community, you deserted the community. Rather than being with the fans who had been supporting the game for years and years, you left us with broken systems, lost progress, and a game that is suffocated by restrictions.
This game is like a treasure chest. It was definitely worthy of receiving better treatment, better respect, and better decisions from the house that made it. I have been waiting for a bug fix for years, and all I got was a removal. I was waiting for this title to be treated as it should be, and instead, we were given choices that wiped out everything that made it unique.
It is really painful to witness a game with such a strong theme be handled in a manner which is totally inconsistent with its core.
I'm sad, truly sad.
CAPCOM decided that instead of actually fixing the Games for Windows LIVE requirement for this game, they chose to remove online multiplayer entirely. To play this game with friends you now have to create a LAN party in the year 2025.
"You need to connect more than one PC with an Ethernet cable for System Link play."

The military forces you know as NEVEC are planning something that will be catastrophic for all who dwell on this planet.
I know this because I used to work for NEVEC. I believed in their goal to bring order to this planet.
Now I know that goal was a lie, and their true aims have always been to amass Thermal Energy. That is why I abandoned NEVEC.
Now they are trying to awaken the slumbering Over G Akrid that lies beneath the planet surface, and this will unleash massives amounts of Thermal Energy.
NEVEC will take all this Thermal Energy and then abandon the planet to its fate.
But that is not all.
If NEVEC is not stopped, and we do not prevent the awakening of the Over G, then the sudden and terrible introduction of such large quantities of Thermal Energy will set off a reaction that will freeze this planet to its very core and kill everyone and everything living here.
For the better part of a century, you assumed that any land you had could be lost at any time, and if that happened, you would just start over somewhere else.
But there is nowhere else this time. Our place is here, on this planet.
Our ancestors built a place for themselves here thanks to their indomitable spirit and the strength of their resolve.
Now it is time to tap into that same resolve to protect what they struggled to build.
To all Snow Pirates on E.D.N. III: if you can hear my voice, then I beseech you to put aside your differences and stand with me as one.

Lost planet 2 is finally officially patched. There was a time I couldn't play LP2 due to GFWL, but with it gone it is at lease playable again. Capcom also fixed the crash issue when using a CPU with more than 6-Cores
Now here is to hoping for an additional update to reintroduce online multiplayer.....

I read that there were issues with multiplayer and the authentication system. I don't know if they're still around, but the game itself is good. The story may be a bit bland, but the progression and combat system are entertaining enough. I also liked the setting. I don't do multiplayer, so I don't rate that aspect 8/10.

Is Lost Planet 2 as a game good? Yes. I don't have many PC hours on it but I do have this game completed on my Xbox 360. The campaign is a good stomp with interesting levels and challenges. The PVP is fun allowing for good arena play on some pretty well made maps for the time. I wouldn't call it a good competitive game, but it was fun to just go into lobbies and shoot each other.
Now the elephant in the room... GFWL... the monkeys paw of our online play. Currently without editing my game files or registry I can play solo and LAN via system link. I need to see if virtual LANs like how Hamachi worked for Minecraft's LAN mode. But this also came at the cost of destroying our save files on PC since those were bound to your GFWL account. But this game was 100% a romp with friends so it feels a little soulless playing this solo.
That being said you CAN downgrade your Lost Planet 2 to go back to the GFWL version of the game. but this means you are going back into the hellscape of getting that retired and deprecated software working.
One of the best coop games ever made! Sadly with no online mode available.. But now you can run the game and play without problems and it runs perfectly well !!!

Un parto mantenerlo stabile, può crashare in ogni momento e per qualsiasi motivo .
Usando DX11 crasha fisso dopo un quarto d'ora/venti minuti, quindi bisogna selezionare DX9 per avere una maggiore stabilità ma anche qui il rischio di crash è dietro l'angolo e il gioco NON salva tra le missioni dei capitoli (solo a fine capitolo), quindi se per qualunque motivo crasha alla missione finale del capitolo tocca rifare TUTTE le missioni di quel capitolo specifico sperando non crashi di nuovo.
Il capitolo finale è stato un parto, crashato 5 volte poco prima del boss finale con tutta una sequenze spaccapalle da rifarsi ogni volta
Sul gioco in sè non c'è molto da dire, un tps arcade che si svolge in corridoi linearissimi dove gli obiettivi sono sempre gli stessi, ovvero attiva le stazioni dati, sconfiggi il boss se c'è, e poi vai al punto rosso di fine missione.
Trama e personaggi anonimi al massimo, i protagonisti sono letteralmente dei manichini intercambiabili e senza personalità, idem i cattivi.
Probabilmente l'unico divertimento deriva dal giocarlo in coop, ma l'update che ha rimosso GFWL ha rotto il multiplayer ed ora il gioco è giocabile solo in single.
In definitiva un titolo mediocre simbolo perfetto di quello che è stato decisamente il periodo buio di Capcom a livello creativo

Remember lost planet 3 never existed.
Anyways i cant play it beacuse campcom killed it, piracy is the only way to play it or use a XBOX360 Or Playstation 3 to play it online, have fun.
Highly recommend, still in my top 3 games in 2025.

They did it. The game works now. I have only played it single player, as a multiplayer, I am not sure.
Since the update months ago, they got rid of the GFWL and now it can be accessed with no issues. I did play for a good 30mins to 1 hour with no issues.
Of course the game is no longer on sale but for those whom been wanting to play the game that have it in there library can.
Finally no more problems with the GFWL B.S. Unfortunately no online though, but have high hopes they will work and bring back online.
10/10 and that's my childhood speaking
One of my favorite games of all time, if capcom can fix the constant crashing and enable some actual playable online play, this would be a solid 10/10

CapCom, thank you for fixing the issue that made this game so difficult to play. Even though I had to restart from the beginning, you allowed me and my other, not as tech-savvy, friend to relive our childhood game. I had too much fun, as this is just a Monster Hunter arcade game with guns, and I love it. I had so much fun playing through the short and simple story that it made me miss the old games.

The Lost Planet franchise was one of my most favorite from the 360 era, and for lost planet 2 it was my most favorite out of the 3, from the beautiful worlds, the gameplay, co-op, everything. This game is worth every penny, sadly recently Capcom has been a bad caretaker (to a point) there was a update that came as a surprise, this update removed the obsolete (Windows Live) system from the game which would be good if they didn't remove MP entirely, not only that it broke everyone's save and I've heard that it even broke co-op in which i have not tested but sense there is no reason for people to lie about that I'm going to take there word on it, if you are only going to play for the story i recommend but if you wanted to get to for playing local or online its completely borked so that's a no go.

Debo agradecer que arreglaron el problema de no poderlo jugar por el windows game for live y eso ya no existe, el juego ya es jugable al 100% en campaña solitario, seria genial poder tener el online activo pero seria mucho pedir en un juego tan viejo, para mi uno de los mejores juegos que e jugado en mi vida, adoro lost planet 2 si tienen la oportunidad de jugarlo háganlo no decepciona.

I'm getting some Memory Overrun (which I think i fixed by lowering Graphics settings) and some other crash error. Hope these get addressed if Capcom gets around to fixing the game
Lost Planet 2 is a massive upgrade over the first entry and tries many new things that make both the story and gameplay much more enjoyable than it's already great predecessor. Coop and different routes make for a game with much more replayability and enjoyment, boss fights are crazy good and the gameplay is varied and fun thanks to the variety of VS mechs and the character loadout customization, it didn't age as well as other games but is still enjoyable if you get used to the controls. It's truly a pity that this franchise with extreme potential was killed due to the 3rd game being outsourced to incompetent developers that made it a cheap attempt to make a Dead Space clone and failing miserably.
A Lost Planet reboot or fully live service game today would completely wipe Monster Hunter off the charts as the core idea is the same but executed much better and with way more potential than just running around with melee weapons.
Helldivers 2 took the concept of this game and completely stripped every fun feature but added great physics, if HD2 can have the success it had as low budget indie game that is completely under Playstation's control and very small in scope, Capcom could do much more.
WARNING: The Steam version of this game has been completely stripped of online functionality after they removed GFWL which plagued and ruined many old games as any DRM does over time. If you want to play it in coop, download an older version online or play it on Xbox for the full experience.

But it wiped out everyone's save files and progress.
That's bad.
They haven't gotten the steam integration working so online and coop is toast..... So there is no point playing it right now because if they do get it working there is a good chance it will wipe out your save/progress.
If none of that were an issue this game is a solid recommend......
So hopefully they fix it.

I could not recommend it enough were it not for the fact that Capcom has left it in the bin to rot due to games for windows live integration.
Get it on the Xbox game store for about $14 USD or by other less legal means should it be possible. This game deserves everything.

Capcom, what the hell? LP2 has the biggest fan base of all the series. Get this game working and back on sale as soon as possible. I love Capcom, but you sure do let me down sometimes.
To preface all of this, I just want to say that I truly enjoy this game. I've been a fan of this series since Lost Planet: Extreme Condition released as console exclusive back in the day, and I thought Lost Planet 2 was a huge step in the right direction for this series when I played it. I used to play so much of LP2 because I enjoyed experiencing the missions again and again, trying to improve and perfect my approach to each level as I did. It was a great time going through the campaign, and co-op enhanced the experience in ways that were sometimes funny, sometimes cool, and mostly satisfying. It was always interesting to see how other people handled certain areas of the game differently from how I did, so I always felt I had learned a lot from others while playing. It was rewarding. It's hard to explain everything that makes this game great with multiplayer; it was simply something you had to be there to experience.
However, this game had the unfortunate virtue of being tied to the Games For Windows Live software, a software that was integrated into this game so heavily that it was impossible to run the game without it. This problem was further exacerbated when GFWL software would become abandoned by Microsoft, leaving this game even harder to access as the years went by. When Capcom announced they would be attempting a fix to separate this game from GFWL, I thought it'd be a good move. Finally, a game that I wanted to introduce to my friends - ones who had never experienced Lost Planet before due to its multiple barriers to entry - might now have those barriers removed. Their supposed fix did separate the game and the defunct GFWL software successfully, but that meant that all functions that came with GFWL were all cut. On top of every saved game being lost (which was almost of no consequence, all things considered), owners of the game now cannot play this game in any multiplayer capacity in 2025. As much as I may still enjoy the single player experience of LP2, it saddens me that I will never get to share this experience the way it was meant to be shared.
Many are quick to blame Capcom for mishandling this game and its multiplayer functionality, and it is true that Capcom holds a good amount of the responsibility for what happens to their own titles. However, Microsoft had also made promises to keep Games for Windows Live as an active service for years to come. That promise degraded in 2013, when Games For Windows Live client was closed to future game releases, but was still supported for games that relied upon it to function. Then Microsoft's promise was thoroughly broken in 2020, when they shut down the GFWL service entirely, leaving all games that relied upon it to suffer the consequences with no form of recourse offered from Microsoft's end. This is what forced Capcom to find workarounds on their own. So while Capcom has fumbled and struggled with the recovery effort on this game, don't forget that it's Microsoft's fault for screwing them over first.
As a result of all this, I cannot in good faith recommend this game until the multiplayer is back in a functional state. Not that it matters right now, as the game is no longer available for purchase at the time of writing this review. Assuming Capcom actually cares to give this game a future again, I wish them the best in working to solve this issue.
Extremely sad to see this is what Lost Planet 2 on Steam has come to. I honestly didn't expect anything to happen after years went by since the game was delisted from steam, but to see multiplayer get completely nuked along with save files? That's just dirty.
writing this review to put some word out that as of 6/19/2025 lost planet 2 is back, the GFWL has been cut out and the game runs right out the box, it took 4+ years but we're finally back, here's hoping they re-list the game for purchase so more folks can experience this classic gem.
(Edit: editing this say that currently the online is not functioning, which is a bummer and hopefully gets restored eventually)

I am saying this as a long-time fan of the game who has waited patiently for this game to get fixed and re-released on Steam to play with my friends: [i]please repair the co-op functionality for this game.[/i] You made it work with Resident Evil 5; another MT-Framework game and one of your classic gems known for its exceptional co-op value. This game-- like RE5-- is nothing without its multiplayer, and you owe it to your fans to fix it.

I love this game. This review isn't actually about the game-play, the story, or the graphics. It's about Capcom and how they handled their most recent update for this game. Why would you remove the multiplayer campaign??? IT WAS AWESOME, and they just said "eh, to fix GFWL issue, just sink it." HUH?
Capcom has had YEARS to fix this issue, did **** all, and now has made it impossible to use the workaround for GFWL to play co-op campaign. Absolutely ludicrous and infuriating for anyone else who is a fan of lost planet.
It pains me to give a negative review for this game. Lost Planet 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, I spent countless hours playing this game back on PS3. It truly is a shame what has happened with the Steam version of the game. Until just recently, you were able to play this game online with some tinkering and Games for Windows Live jank. This worked well for some time - until Capcom recently pulled the plug. Now we have a game that is not only delisted on Steam, but now we have a game that you can't even play online with friends anymore. In addition to removing online functionality, Capcom's move also killed all local save data, essentially erasing everyone's progress. Whole situation sucks. Hopefully they actually fix it like the Steam page has implied for a few years now. There are rumblings about Steamworks multiplayer support maybe coming but I'll believe it when I see it. So yeah, this is a regrettable "do not recommend" from me.
I rate the game in its current state 10 Randy Pitchfords out of 10.

I'm gonna try and be an optimist here, the game was put off sale a while ago, an update was released that wiped all save data and removed the GFWL functionality and thus broke the purpose of the game entirely. Perhaps it was an update that was deployed too early, perhaps it was just prepping us for the transfer to steamworks.
The lack of communication concerns me, and I lost a lot of data, but if they implement steamworks to bring back the multiplayer I think the temporary pain will be worth it.
I'm rating it positive because it's a good game that was left on the backburner for a while, and honestly it hurts seeing this series be so neglected, but, it holds some of my fondest memories back in my PS3 days. Please fix the multiplayer, I wanna introduce a ton of my friends to this series and it's already hard enough to source the game and have the multiplayer running. Now it's just...outright impossible.

Not only did they finally remove Microsoft's dead DRM, they also removed the online components and everyone's save data.
And you still can't purchase the game. Personally, I'd rather see my favorite games become abandonware and lost to the void than be treated like this.
Hang onto whatever physical copies and backups you have. Only you can protect your games from the people that hold the rights to them.

It's understandable that GWFL was going to be removed eventually, and they even announced as such YEARS ago. But when you take away the player's progression in a silent update (no announcement as of right now), remove all multiplayer features, and give ZERO option to get any of that back (when it very much is possible! just look at RE5, or DR2) then that's just a complete disregard to any of your OG customers or the very few that are still playing RIGHT NOW.
The game isn't even back on sale and you guys are getting review bombed...
