Welcome aboard the Reuss Express, a journey of a life-time derailed by an unexpected assassination. On the eve of a landmark speech by the wealthy heiress Lady Unterwald, a straight-laced lawyer, a crime novelist-turned rookie detective, and an undercover spy find themselves embroiled in a murder, a mystery, and worst of all… an adventure! Cute game, with pretty good voice acting and music and very nice classic pixelart graphics with a lot of detailed animations - it felt similar to Lucasarts in the early 90s.
I liked the idea that you could see the story from different character's perspectives and of course that in some points in the game you can control two or three of the main characters - that also resembled Day of the Tentacle. Even exchanging objects between them was not totally different, though no time travel involved here. :)
The story itself was nothing groundbreaking, however it fitted a lighthearted and fun game - but it's not very memorable or emotionally touching. Also, the main characters are OK, but i feel we did not have a chance to really get to like them, at least I did not get too attached to any of them.
The interface is simple and modern, you can pause the game any time, has a simple save/load system with autosave and the control is straightforward, though the use of right click vs left click felt inconsistent sometimes.

I had some concerns about the puzzles - some were just plain and obvious and some had quite khmm...special logic - the built in hint system was a funny way of getting around most of them though. Also in some cases it is very restrictive on HOW a certain thing can be solved - e.g. in most cases, you can't just pass an object to an NPC, you need to trigger the action through a dialogue. In some cases you get a hint if you are trying in the right direction, in other cases you just get a default "nope" response, so you are not always guided to find the solution easily.

What annoyed me the most, was the constant up-down running all over the train, where a map for instant jumps between the cars would have been very helpful...but at least the characters can run at least.

Overall: the game is not perfect, but it was fun to play, the game has a nice atmosphere, so i definitely recommend it.

Loco Motive is an enjoyable point & click adventure game that is, with few exceptions, very linear, and relies heavily on dialogue, but makes up for it with clever twists, excellent voice over, and charming humor.

Lady Unterwald is dead! She was murdered on board of the Reuss Express, the heart of her train empire, just seconds before she intended to announce her new heir and successor. The main suspect is Arthur, her hapless lawyer and paperwork connoisseur, but as the story unfolds, it becomes clear that he's not the only suspect by far.

The majority of the story is narrated in retrospect from the perspectives of Arthur and two other witnesses, who all, for one reason or another, got involved in the events. For the big finale, you all have to work together to find the real culprit.

[h2]Gameplay[/h2]

Loco Motive has everything you'd expect from a p&c game nowadays, there's a hotspot viewer, a charming in-game hint system, and you can skip dialogue. You can walk or run either with A/D or by clicking/holding LMB. I loved the detail that when you take items out of your inventory, of combine items, there's a cute little animation how your character does that in-game, too.

Some puzzles are triggered by dialogue, so it is better to listen to it, and on some occasions there's a bit too much of it, for me at least. But the voice-over is consistently excellent, and the dialogue is firmly tongue-in-cheek, so it did not bother me too much. The puzzles in general were a plus, the devs clearly tried to bring in some variety.

Loco Motive does not reinvent the wheel, but it is thoroughly entertaining and you can feel the love of the devs for this kind of game. If you want to spend 9+ hours with some lighthearted fun, this is a solid choice, and definitely with a discount or as part of a bundle.

A charming adventure game, however, it lacks anything setting it apart from the material it heavily draws from. The puzzles were always something between simple and nonsensical and had no direct ties with the story, which made them feel pointless. The characters were sadly not fleshed out enough for anyone to be likeable or 2 dimensional.

I would come back for another game from the two (siblings?) in the future, sadly this has left me with a very flat aftertaste after completing!

steam 为什么没有中评选项…不推荐不至于，因为游戏本身不算太差劲，但是每次都会在悬疑/推理类型的推荐里刷到有人提及这款游戏，所以觉得还是写个评测，让打算因此购入的人有一些预期。
首先可以看出制作的用心：全程配音、相对精美的像素画风和小品式剧情，都算是本作优点。如果喜欢的是那种淡淡的英式幽默，传统的指向点击，可以考虑游玩，通关就像看了一部喜剧类型的侦探冒险电影。
但如果期待的是浓厚悬疑氛围，大量推理或解谜思考元素，那么在这款游戏里上述元素的含量接近于零。虽然都是快车谋杀案，但并不是阿婆东方快车谋杀案（指原作）那种类型，共同点只有大家都是困在列车上遇到谋杀案而已。
游戏的解谜基本就是调查场景，获得物品，再进行组合，成为新道具，与周边场景互动推进剧情，难度基本没有，不太需要动脑。偶尔卡住，也只会是因为游戏自身设计的解谜道具获取方式过于抽象，不太符合常规逻辑。因此作为一款推理解谜游戏，只能说游戏性相对一般，且剧情和角色塑造都有点无聊，算是甜品级小游戏，对它不要抱有悬疑推理类型游戏的期待，就还值得一玩。

Nearly an hour in, with the prologue and act 1 completed. At that point I've had to solve maaayyybe one puzzle, if I'm being generous with the definition.

Otherwise I've clicked through dialogue (so much dialogue, none of it entertaining). I've had my hand held constantly, at every step told exactly what I should be doing next. I've walked backwards and forwards through the same few rooms over and over again.

I want to say this game is a good entry to point and click adventure games. I appreciate the help line aspect and how simple the story is. I personally felt underwhlmed at the story and wished it could of had more charm. Everything about the art and mechanics are competently done and I can see where the passion is.

A fun game with gorgeous art and animations, a killer soundtrack, and lovable characters. (I've been muttering "Herman Merman and the Murmurin' German" to myself for days now.) It goes on longer than it needs to (the story's pretty slight), and the enclosed setting gets repetitive the more time you spend there, but it's so damn charming that you can't help but want to stick around anyway. I can't emphasize enough that this is absolutely one of the best looking and sounding indie adventure games I've ever played, with voice acting that's light-years beyond a lot of its contemporaries. The developers look to have handled the voice direction themselves, and I IMPLORE them to hire out their services to other studios--whatever they're doing, it's working like crazy.

There was nothing specifically bad about this game, but I was left just kind of annoyed when the credits rolled. I didn’t laugh or even push a little air out of my nose even once. My standards aren’t super high either - if someone says peepeepoopoo i’m giggling like the pillsbury doughboy.

If comedy is subverting expectations, this game just kept meeting them, low as they were, consistently. to its detriment.

This is a great, funny, point and click in the classic style with more polished modern gameplay. Runs great on a steam deck. I finished in 10 hours. The train setting and agility to run cuts down on the tedious walking many games have. The third act is cut short which is a shame but I was also ready for the conclusion so I wasn't upset.

I really enjoyed playing this whodunit game. It has nice storyline with a few plot twists, and good humor. Some chapters were relatively easy, while others were very difficult. At times i found it quite hard to figure out what i even had to do - so in those scenarios i cheated a little bit by reading a walkthrough blogpost ("into indie games" was very helpful for that). Some solutions i really didn't see coming, so without that blog i wouldn't have been able to finish the game. Despite that, i still really enjoyed the game - so i highly recommend trying it.

What a homage to many things. For one, there are references to movies like Titanic, Citizen Kane, MacGyver, Monty Python, etc. One of the biggest references is to the movie Brazil: a puzzle motif includes the pipes system from the movie, and there is a character who enjoys bureaucracy and paperwork.

Of course, this adventure game pays its respects to comedic adventure games of old -- Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, etc. -- by having funny, hammy, and witty extra dialogue for all of the main and side characters. The game even encourages the player to exhaust all of the dialogue that a given character has by indicating in grey when a dialogue option has been used up or in white when more or new dialogue can be given. Sometimes, the player character gets to ask the same question to all other characters regardless of their relevance to the main plot, and their response to the question also informs more about their own character. Most of the story takes place on a train, and even if the side characters move around, they usually keep some of their original dialogue, so the player can still listen to what they may have missed the first, second, or even third time. Almost all of the voice lines are hammy, but I love a good ham.

For an adventure game, the gameplay is relatively typical of what you can expect. A decent number of the puzzles are straightforward. Some require some thought. Some utilize motifs and prior knowledge of what you solved before. A few are esoteric. Nonetheless, the player characters tend to give out informing monologues for what to look for or try out next. There is even a diegetic hint system via telephone: some of the hints are pretty hilarious because some are layered in how specific the hint is, so each time you ask, the hint gets more and more obvious. Of course, one has to see all of the hint dialogue if you are into the humor of pressing someone's patience.

The best aspect of the game is the pixel art and animation. For one, a singular frame of the game can be beautiful. This game utilizes a low-count of pixels to have very expressive characters and cutscenes. Of course, the tradeoff of having fewer pixels mean that there is not much detail for certain objects that are smaller in view, but the game handily sidesteps this tradeoff by having cutscenes or transitions to a closeup pixel rendering of what an inconspicuous object is.

I LOVE point and click adventure games and have played many in my time, and when I say this is a great game and you should play, you best believe I'm telling the truth! The animation is fantastic, the characters are well rounded, the puzzles don't leave you clicking around wildly hoping you find the answer (they make logical sense), the soundtrack is rad and it's crazy the whole thing is VO'd. All in all a great entry to the P&C genre, well worth your time!

很有阿加莎小说风味的点击取向冒险喜剧，虽然有各种经典侦探冒险小说的NETA也确实有侦探、杀人案等等要素，但故事和推理几乎毫无关系。其中让人最震撼的可能是游戏像素动画的制作和投入以及覆盖所有角色的配音。几乎每一个道具在不同的角色身上拿取的动画都有差异！！三个主角的特点都还挺鲜明的，因为有很多夸张化的调侃和海量的neta台词，小品感非常明显。前期每个地方点点点听角色吐槽很快乐，中后期玩得略有疲惫，多线故事讲得挺完整的，而且喜剧包袱有时候抛得还挺正的，大概就是怪味但又没有怪到极致的感觉？对于比较熟悉推理故事的玩家，有趣是有趣，但剧情确实比起游戏本身的制作少了些惊艳惊喜。

这个游戏后我开始思考配音是不是有些喧宾夺主之疑，明明两秒钟可以看完的一段对话，我为了听完整配音就要停在那三十秒。其实本地化已经做得很好了，因为有配音的对比，反而很容易有点不上不下：比如[spoiler] 后期出版社的那块决策板子，游戏翻译是”老板“，但没听错的话其实是“Board”？直译是董事会同时也是一块板子嘛，如果没有配音，游戏这个翻译倒是显得很巧妙.....思考用“大盘”或者用回董事会是不是更有那种冷幽默的落差呢 [/spoiler]

Mi è piaciuto molto. Un punta e clicca moderno, con una storia divertente e buoni enigmi.
Ho adorato i personaggi, tutti, sono molto simpatici...anche quelli secondari.
Bella la storia narrata come se fosse un film thriller, con avvenimenti che si intrecciano con più personaggi. Poi ho apprezzato le scene finali dove si usano più personaggi insieme, molto carino.

Una cosa che ho apprezzato veramente tanto e mi ha fatto godere il gioco, è la bellissima pixel art e le animazioni. Si vede che c'è un bel lavoro dietro. Bellissima.

Herman Merman mi ha fatto morire dal ridere. Anche i cuochi della cucina.

The puzzles were at times frustrating, and considering how plentiful tips were, I think the game was aware of it. Even when I at times got genuinely annoyed at the gameplay, fun writing and brilliant voice acting got me through the worst of it, and the game ended in a pretty good note.

As someone who grew up playing classic LucasArts point and click games I would heartily recommend this to any fan of the genre. It's got a lot of the Lucas humour, puzzles and logic. Puzzles need some thinking about but never feel frustrating or arbitrary. The plot, locations and art style are all very charming and the dialogue is well acted. Just get it.

Wat een heerlijk spel. Goede verhaallijn, veel humor. Veel praten maar de conversaties zijn erg vermakelijk dus ik vond het geen probleem. Bizar hoeveel details je kunt "zien", ook al is dit een pixel-game. De hint-functie in dit spel is hilarisch! Het stemacteren is heel goed gedaan, maar 1 van de hoofdrolspelers (Herman) moet echt iets aan zijn manier van praten gaan doen, het deed af en toe pijn aan mijn oren. Kortom: ik vind dit spel een echte aanrader! Hopelijk gaat het drietal snel weer een keer met elkaar op avontuur!

This is a hard game to [i]not[/i] recommend. But at the end of the day, I think I would have rather spent the money on some other game, and I can't really recommend it, feeling like that.

I do want to start with the things they did well, though, because there is SO MUCH WORK put into this game, and it's heartbreaking that the rest of it lets it down.

Any discussion of this game [i]needs[/i] to talk about the art, and [i]especially[/i] the animation, both of which are extremely well done. There's a fairly recognizable set of common actions in the point-and-click genre that nobody bothers trying to animate, because it's just not worth it - the action is way too complicated to spend a ton of time animating, or the action only ever happens once, so you can't justify the work by re-using the animation somewhere.

Loco Motive gives the distinct impression that it's hell-bent on avoiding "cheating" on as many of these as it can possibly get away with. A character changes clothes? In most point-and-clicks, you'd either have them move off camera for a second, or you'd just get a brief fade-to-black and some swooshing-fabric noises, and boom, done - and that's [i]perfectly fine![/i] Not here, though - when Arthur puts on a suit jacket, there's a smooth, well-done, two-second-or-so bit of custom animation, that gets used [i]only this once[/i], just because the animators didn't want to punt.

The coup de grace, though, is that there are specific, customized animations for [i]combining inventory items[/i]. I've played a pretty fair number of point-and-clicks, and I have NEVER seen ANYONE do this. In just about any other game, the well-established norm is just to have a voice line of "Okay, I [tied] the [fork] to the [stick]!" and snap cut to the new item in your inventory - or, if you're [i]really[/i] trying for extra credit, a stock animation of the character fumbling with something in their hands.

Having [i]one-off[/i] animations for almost all of the separate inventory-item combinations you create throughout the game is [i]insane[/i], and when I saw these in-game, it legitimately blew me away because you've gotta understand that NOBODY DOES THIS: animation is [i]hard[/i], and therefore time-consuming, and therefore [i]expensive[/i]. But they did it anyway, because they cared, and they didn't want to cheat.

This level of visual polish that Loco Motive gets by upping the art and animation budget blows past nearly any other point-and-click adventure on Steam. But the cost of that visual polish is that - I'm guessing - it took that budget [i]away[/i] from the writing and the puzzle design, and the resultant issues in [i]those[/i] areas are, in my opinion, enough of a problem to ultimately sink the game.

I think my issues with the writing generally boil down to the notion that the game is just... too silly for its own good. In a sense, it's not really fair to criticize the game for this, because it's clearly intended to be a comedy game first and foremost, and it's not [i]trying[/i] to be serious or dramatic. But the game's story is still, at its core, a murder mystery, and if you're going to make a murder mystery game, then you're accepting a set of expectations that you need to fulfill in order for players to feel like your story is rewarding to "read".

Loco Motive feels like too much of a circus to ever really address these expectations, and the end result is that the story itself (in an ostensibly narrative-driven game!) feels somehow like an afterthought - something that trundles along awkwardly, reshaping itself as needed in order to provide the requisite environmental setup for whatever joke comes next.

And to be clear, these are [i]good[/i] jokes in a [i]funny[/i] circus! For all the issues I have with the "serious" writing, I was pretty happy with the [i]comic[/i] writing, and I thought the voice actors did a great job in getting them to land. But the problem is, I feel like there needs to be a solid framework for the jokes to provide comic relief [i]from[/i], and I feel like Loco Motive's core plot is too roundabout and fragmented to do that.

From the game's opening cutscene, you're set up to feel like you're going to be investigating the crime, putting together the pieces, and figuring out which of the people on board might be the culprit. This... never really happens. Instead, you're running around on random errands that often have little-to-nothing to do with the mystery, just to clear out one logjam after the next, while the plot moves on - usually [i]without[/i] you.

I mean, yeah, it's a point-and-click adventure, there's a certain acceptable degree of "wacky BS gets in your way", but so [i]much[/i] of what you're doing is bizarre side-errands, and so [i]little[/i] of what you're doing has to do with the actual goals you're given, that I... can't really even remember what most of the "real" goals even [i]were[/i] - when I think back on playing this game, I remember objectives like "I need to get into the kitchen" or "I need to talk to the drunk guy", and certainly not "I need to figure out who killed Lady Unterwald".

Moreso than that, there's not really any [i]way[/i] for the player to try to work out whodunit on their own, which I feel like is a major part of a murder-mystery game. When the killer is finally revealed, it's not... contrived or anything, like, it's not like it's [i]nonsense[/i], but there were never any clues or leads as to [i]why them[/i]. They could have picked just about [i]anybody[/i] to get revealed as the killer, and you'd still say "...sure, I guess [i]they[/i] did it. Why not."

As for the puzzles, I generally felt like they fell into two camps: ones that felt pretty obvious, and ones that felt completely impossible. I [i]can[/i] tolerate some head-scratchers in a point-and-click, but because so few puzzles seemed to fall into the sweet spot - all of them felt either too easy or too hard - none of them felt particularly satisfying to solve; either you tried every combination of inventory items and world items you could think of (and/or gave up and checked a walkthrough), or you understood exactly what you had to do, but had to go wander the train in search of what you needed.

Also, in my opinion, there's too many "distraction" puzzles - the ones where you need to create a distraction to lure an NPC away from something so that you can mess with it. There's not anything inherently [i]wrong[/i] with distraction puzzles, but I feel like Loco Motive overuses them: if used sparingly, you feel clever for figuring out what you need to do, but when there's this many of them, you get conditioned to start [i]expecting[/i] them, and it stops feeling fun or clever. It also doesn't help that I don't remember ever being expected to use an inventory item in these puzzles - all you need to do while the NPC is distracted is just "use the thing" or "take the thing" - which cheapens these puzzles further.

At the end of the day, between the zaniness of the setting, the zaniness of the story, and the zaniness of the puzzles, I ended up feeling like the story could basically take any turn it wanted, whenever it wanted, and it'd make as much sense as anything else - and as a result, I pretty much stopped caring about it. I more or less unplugged from the story; I played out the rest of the game primarily just to avoid leaving it unfinished.

I wish this game held together better, because there's so much hard work put into it and so many good things it's got going for it - but unfortunately, it feels like the game's good parts (art, animation, voice acting, comedy writing) are all "nice to haves", and its bad parts (plot writing, puzzles) are all "need to haves" - and that combination unfortunately just doesn't hold up.

I think this game has all the things that people who enjoy point-and-click adventures will like, so if youre a fan of the genre you will likely enjoy this game. I think for my personal tastes it just didn't click though, I didn't finish the game because I got tired of it once the protaganist switches.

I will still give a thumbs up though because I think it is a well done game, even if its not my personal preference!

是近几年出的相当高质量的点击解密游戏了。虽然叫罗伊斯号快车谋杀案，但是本质上不是推理游戏，是点击解密游戏，类似黑暗侦探和重返猴岛。所以对于谋杀案的设计要求就不能太高，（其实这个案子有个bug到最后都没解释）故事完成度挺高的，整个故事环环相扣。很多前面看似没用的道具，都最后一章用在了巧妙的地方（比方说律师开局拆下来的蜡封和作家在出版社顺走的拆信刀）引导做的很好，不会的地方可以打电话求助专业侦探游戏里给的提示也足够多（除了那个调玫瑰花蕾的部分，我真没想到要放这么猛的东西去调）像素动画的小细节做的也格外好，特工穿的是紧身裙，在从口袋里拿油桶之类的大东西的时候还会卡住要拔出来，细节很到位。推荐给所有喜欢玩解密类游戏的玩家。

This was a fantastic point and click adventure. The style and feel was very reminiscent of mid- to late-90s era PoCs, but without the frustration of dead ends. This was definitely on the easy side, but that's not a bad thing (no terrible moon logic in this one, that I recall). My only complaint is that the function to allow you to see hotspots is a bit misleading; I expected all hotspots to show up on screen when you press tab, but only hotspots a certain distance from the character show up. The one time I got stuck is when I missed an item in a one screen room because I didn't walk far enough to one side to see a hotspot show up on screen. Over all, very fun and would recommend.

This game has a lovely little story. It's not super long and can be finished in a day, provided you remember your inventory has a scroll function at the bottom. It feels good to figure things out yourself, but there's no shame in calling the hotline (especially if you want the achievements). I love the ending of the game especially, where you have to switch between multiple characters. I did have an issue on two separate occasions where items went missing because of improper use of item sending mechanics (ex: losing a rusty pipe by flushing it while the current was the wrong direction, or putting something in a delivery shaft and it disappearing). I may have just not looked hard enough, but I appreciated the autosave feature in these times. The ending is really cute and sees the characters come full circle. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

A hilarious game, of what felt like parody of Murder on the Orient Express, that often had me laughing out loud. Excellently voice-acted and well-written, with beautiful pixel art and a visually pleasing colour palette. There’s also an optional black and white filter for a more noir feel.

You play as three characters throughout, and while I found the first two entertaining, I felt that the 3rd character, was slightly rushed and had less comedic dialogue than the first two and definitely could have been fleshed out a little more. But the first two characters were absolutely brilliant.

My one major gripe, and I get the game is meant to be comical, but some of the item combinations are so ridiculous, that I sometimes wondered how any player would logically come to that conclusion without either randomly trying combinations of everything in their inventory, or looking at a guide.

I had a couple of minor bugs where one NPC became invisible and another sat on a their chair facing the wrong direction.

Overall, I recommend Loco Motive if you want to laugh your socks off while playing a fun, wacky point and click mystery with a memorable cast of both playable characters and NPCs.

Not a very long game but it pretty decently fun. Had one bug where I would walk into an area and my character would immediately walk back out, leading me to be stuck and confused for a minute, However interacting with something as soon a I would walk in fixed it and I was able to continue the story. Wirklich mit Abstand das beste Point&Click, welches ich seit langer Zeit gespielt habe! Ganz im Geiste von Lucas Arts und Titeln wie "Maniac Manson" und "The Day of the Tentacle". Der Humor ist super, das Game-Play nie langweilig oder langatmig und die Wechsel in die verschiedenen Personen, die den Spieler Teile der Geschichte noch einmal aus einer anderen Perspektive durchleben lassen sind einfach spitze!
Abgesehen dazu gibt es noch eine richtig gute Musik, die das ganze untermalt. Sehr empfehlenswert!

I initially picked this up because it gives off strong '' murder on the orient express'' vibes.
upon playing it I realised that it was then a carbon copy of the story with swapped characters.
This is a very fun comedically charged, point and click game set a board a moving train and surrounding a murder mystery.
This thing wears its influences on its sleeve and makes something new out of them And I love it for that!
I also love the mechanic of changing protagonists and then later switching between all three.

This game was very fun and I appreciate that there was some tasks that could be dealt with in different ways however some puzzles were quite confusing and did take me a while to figure out. Hence the help system with the "dectective expert" was quite handy to have.
Good pace and intriguing storyline and the whole thing being voice activated was amazing considering the low cost of the game. Love the option to have the graphics be in black and white too like a noir mystery!
Finished the game in 6 hours plus small breaks so it's quite manageable for those who prefer a shorter game with good story and development still.

This game is nearly like finding a lost LucasArts adventure game from the 90s. It's honestly incredible how accurate that description is. I found some of the puzzles to be a bit too random (combine the chewing gum with the rubber chicken) for my tastes, but otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed playing through this game.

断断续续玩了好几个月。
在还没出汉化的时候看到评论区的一致好评就入手了，但是玩了一两章之后因为对话和文字量实在太多了干脆就搁置了一段时间，没想到很快汉化就上了。
有一说一，汉化的质量很高，比金偶像的汉化高一百倍左右吧，完全还原游戏乐趣。
虽然是像素风，但是作为一个解密为主的推理游戏完美符合我心里对这类型游戏的所有期待。不过中国人演反派这件事还是挺槽的，让我想起当时读阿婆的四魔头那种不忍卒读的感觉。
后面两章节人物来回切换和配合真的很有趣，包括最后的结尾也很有典型的侦探小说的感觉！所有登场人物齐聚一堂，侦探逐一解释一切谜团，最后凶手自白。这套古典流程放在推理游戏里果然是永远经久不衰的桥段啊。
唯一的缺点就是甚至连选择章节都不可以，对成就党来说一点都不友好。
卡关的话可能是因为搜索的不够仔细，除了打电话还可以看看指南里的walk through（虽然都是英语但是其实蛮好懂的

Great game! It plays really well as a classic adventure game and more. I really enjoyed the three character perspective and the story and characters are just hilarious. HERMAN MERMAN WAS MY FAVORITE!!!! There are a few puzzling puzzles and wanted more in case of some interaction responses. Overall, it’s a very polished game with plenty of hints built in where you need it. It’s a steal even at full price.
