Overview:
You play as your standard amnesiac that washed up on a beach near the town of Oakwood and were nursed back to health by a man named Dante, one of the town’s more successful residents. Your journey starts when Dante’s daughter is mysteriously abducted and taken to a local run down keep and he asks you to rescue her. After doing so he informs you more about the circumstances he found you in and tells you that an old friend across the sea might know more about how to return you to the world you came from. As he knows you’ve had the feeling that you just didn’t belong where you’ve found yourself. So your journey begins into mystery, tragedy, and the toll of time.
Presentation:
This is your standard looking and controlling RPGmaker game. It has some ideas but as far as interacting with it… its not very complicated. What makes this game a little different is what is under the hood. That being said the game is going on 11 years old so some of the controls are a little stiff and the game stutters a bit, and I couldn’t find a way to fix it. There are some precision control puzzles that may have been doable at one point, but at least for me I just couldn’t get the controls to cooperate long enough to solve the puzzles. At least they were side puzzles that didn’t affect the game too much. The game is still playable though.
Game-play:
This is where the developer was ambitious with what they have tried to stuff into a RPGmaker game circa ten years ago. There are eight basic classes (Knight, Grey Mage, Monk, Thief, Hunter, White/Black Mage and Engineer) that the player can chose from to create their party of four. While this may not be that important in most of these games, it is in this one. You can either have a very limiting team that can make it hard to access the various story choices or you can have one that lets you access most of what is in the game relatively easily at the cost of losing out on some of the higher level weapons and spells. My group was the Grey Mage, thief, hunter and engineer. This is the jack of all trades group that gave me the most options when it came to the story choices. It is still possible to make the choices you want with other groups, but it might require thinking outside of the box within the game world to do so. To the developers credit, they accounted for this in most circumstances. That being said it can also cause some issues since this game for the most part does not have to be played in a linear fashion even though the developers did their best to show the consequences of what choices you do make when your going out of order.
Usually this is in the form of the player just made it much harder to do A because they went right to D. For example eliminating the leader of the thief’s early in the game might not be the smartest choice when you need their skeleton keys to make the mid game a little easier. Their prices go waaay up if you do that, so letting them be is probably the smarter choice even if removing them seems like it would help the kingdom they reside in. Of course this is the problem of unintended consequences which this story likes to play with. The story has a lot of interconnected bits that are like that, it’s not always clear who influences what and the end game can be surprising depending on what the player chose to do or not do. I’m still not sure how to avoid some of the major plot points even though the epilogues at the end seem to suggest it’s possible.
The combat side of this game is its strength, but also one of its weaknesses since the developer kinda missed the sweet spot. The combat is fun because the players can more or less become steamrollers very quickly, until they hit certain bosses anyway, but that makes the combat very repetitive until a certain point in the story where the enemies get much harder and start using status effects constantly. Then it becomes a game of One Punch man where if initial salvo doesn’t wipe out the monsters or disable them the party is probably going to get wrecked. This is very annoying if your playing on what amounts to classic difficulty. Which is a shame since there are plenty of options and skills that can be learned and the character classes can be upgraded. Maybe it’s a limitation of the RPGmaker software, who knows.
The puzzles, oh boy, the puzzles. There are some simple ones some challenging ones, some I guess you had to be there in 2014 and some ok, guys I know you were college students at the time but that was a long time ago for me. They aren’t really required but they do usually give you some nice equipment or higher level healing items that come in handy. Finally the sound / music is decent. It’s all royalty fee, no copyright stuff, but some of those remixes they have are rocking.
Summary:
This is one of those games I picked up a long time ago on a sale and kind of forgot about until I was plumbing the depths of my back log and decided to give it another try. I was about to give up on it until what the developers were going for finally clicked. This game is kind of a “demaster” of games like Dragon Age, Baldur’s Gate, or any other open world fantasy game that features player choice and customization. They stuffed a ton of mechanics in here and while it looks weird and takes some imagination to figure it out since they really couldn’t show things very well with the platform they were using.
If they did a remake with the unity’s and unreal’s of now I imagine this might be something more people would pay attention to.
I would recommend to those who like old fashioned JRPG’s with a few tweaks and those that just want a RPG that they don’t have to think too much about if they don’t want to.
Lo que llevo jugado me ha parecido excelente, ignorando que a veces los gráficos si se pueden llegar a sentir algo genéricos, lo compensa con su mundo variado, al principio me había atorado un poco pero una vez que pude conseguir el barco me ♥♥♥♥ a explorar todos los lugares que pude y realmente llevaba bastante tiempo sin que un jrpg me enganchara como para revisar todas las ubicaciones y tratar de usar todas las mecánicas, así como poner atención a los diálogos de los npc que ayudan bastante a la construcción de mundo.
Sin duda es un gran exponente de los juegos hechos en rpg maker en cuanto a sus mecánicas de juego, se siente bastante pulido y que todas las piezas que lo conforman están ahí por alguna razón real, o se sienten como una verdadera parte de la esencia del juego.
Debería ser mas revisitado y jugado por la comunidad hispanohablante de rpg,
I'm not even sure I can honestly recommend this game or not. I enjoy a fine rpg, this is a mixed bag of pacing, bugs, gameplay. Still enjoyable for what I played of it. I will pick it back up to finish it. The lack of available menu options is insanely limiting. I suppose in that sense it really did live up to the old school nes/snes/genesis rpgs of the early 90s
Look, if you're a fan of the pixel Final Fantasy games, you need this game. It absolutely encapsulates that experience, but be warned: There's way too much content in this game. Play until you get bored, you'll get your money's worth.
There are problems with the game and I hope they can be fixed. There is a bug in the script that has never been repaired.
I'll give a positive review when the game is bug-free and can be played normally. I woke up the next day and found there were bugs in the game while I was in the middle of playing.

A final fantasy 4-6 nostalgia hit to the veins.
This game is exactly what it appears to be: A turn-based RPG in the vein of the original 8- and 16-bit Final Fantasy games. While there's no real surprises to those who're familiar with RPG Maker-esque games, it presents a good story, an interesting world, and fun turn-based combat.
Your choices of class are solid and diverse, and purely from the point of view of combat, you should be all right with just about any combination, though some, like an all-magic-user party, will obviously be more difficult to beat the game with than others, and there's two classes that are all but required to get the best possible result.
That is actually my one complaint about Last Dream: half your roster is basically spoken for if you want to complete the game. You need a Thief to unlock treasure chests without having to fight the guards, and an Engineer is necessary, not only to traverse the mining tunnels that serve as shortcuts throughout the game map, but also for a section of the game's main plot to get the good ending. Neither of these classes are bad, and I enjoyed having them in my party, but I resented these classes being required in order to truly succeed at the game.
However, that's a fairly minor gripe in the face of how much I enjoyed my time with the game, and with its sequel, Last Dream: Worlds Unknown. I highly recommend this game to any fan of old-school RPGs.

Ein ziemlich gutes Spiel. Hat gute Story, eine riesige Welt, gute Puzzle Gebiete, hat Rückblenden, kannst Gegenstände herstellen, kannst fischen, Schatzkarten und später Sonar, es gibt Rennen, Kasino usw. Das einzige was mir nicht so gefallen hat, war dass man keine MP Potionen kaufen konnte. Ist aber zu empfehlen, für alle Leute die RPG Maker spiele mögen.

Last Dream ist ein eher klassisches RPG dessen Stärken vor ALLEM in den Spielmechaniken, sprich den Kämpfen, den Puzzles etc. liegen.
Man wählt am Anfang 4 aus 8 verschiedenen Klassen aus.
Es stehen folgende zur Auswahl:
Knight, Thief, Black Mage, White Mage, Gray Mage, Hunter, Monk und Engineer.
Die Klassen spielen sich alle recht unterschiedlich, außer dem Gray Mage der einige Sprüche von den Klassen White Mage und Black Mage und einige eigene lernen kann.
Hat man jene 4 Klassen ausgewählt (man kann theoretisch auch 4x die gleiche Klasse wählen) und benannt, wird man direkt ins Abenteuer geworfen und die Reise durch das Land Terra beginnt.
Positiv:
- Mir hat das Kampfsystem mit all seinen Finessen plus in Kombination mit dem wählbaren Schwierigkeitsgrad sehr gut gefallen.
- Die stets wählbaren Schwierigkeitsgrade sind: Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard (Soll der Standartschwierigkeitsgrad sein), Very Hard und Legendary.
- Steigt man im Level auf kann man sog. AP's (Ability Points) nach eigenem ermessen (oder wenn man will automatisch) in div. Attribute investieren wie z.B. Atk, Def, MDEF, HP, MP, AGI usw.
Darüber hinaus kann man sog. SP's (Skill Points) verdienen wenn man Monster tötet oder bestimmte Items benutzt. Diese SPs investiert man dann um gewisse Zauber und Fähigkeiten (aktive sowie passive) zu kaufen.
- 50 verschiedene Puzzles die in Dungeon etc. zu finden sind. Teilweise verborgen. Sie variieren zwischen Logik/Rätsel-Puzzles, über Reaktionstests, Erinnerungstests etc.
Diese Puzzles waren wirklich sehr gut gemacht. Auch wenn mich manche quasi um den Verstand gebracht haben :P (selbst mit Lösung)
- Der wählbare Schwierigkeitsgrad, der wählbare Grindfaktor etc. man konnte sehr wichtige Dinge vor und während dem Spiel stets anpassen! Das ist sehr gut. ich wünschte das hätte FF 6 damals gehabt ^^
- Der Umfang war def. ok. Ich habe quasi alles außer dem Endlosdungeon erledigt (bestes Equip auf allen Charaktern erfarmt, alle Superbosse etc. getötet) und lag am Ende bei ca. 85 Stunden.
- Das Spiel kann im eigenen Tempo gespielt werden. Sprich manchmal gibt es zwei Wege zur Auswahl und man MUSS nicht beide nacheinander wählen. Tut man dies aber, steigt man rel. fix im Level auf. So werden EINIGE Kämpfe selbst auf dem Schwierigkeitsgrad: Hard (Schwer) zunächst einfach. Später jedoch gibt es div. Dungeons und auch Extra- und Superbosse die einem wirklich ALLES abverlangen.
- Wie eben bereits genannt: Es gibt div. optionale Extra- und Superbosse, die man über eine Huntergilde jagen kann. Manche davon (vor allem die späteren +die Superbosse) erfordern intensives Grinden (zum. auf meinem Schwierigkeitsgrad, der noch nichtmal der Höchste war!), sehr gutes Gear und ein gutes Verständnis vom Kampf-, Magie- sowie Itemsystem!
- Es gibt auch einen Sonderdungeon wie damals in Lufia (hieß damals Ahnenhöhle). Sprich man muss am Eingang alle Gegenstände ablegen und darf nur manche Schätze aus speziellen Truhen später behalten, wenn man den Dungeon wieder verlässt. So beginnt man am Anfang des Sonderdungeons auf Stufe 1 und ohne Equip oder Items. Man findet jedoch div. Schatztruhen etc. und kann sich so während des Aufenthaltes erneut equippen.
- Mir haben div. Sound- und Musikstücke echt gut gefallen. Auch wenn sie sich nicht mit gewissen Stücken wie aus Persona oder den Trails-Games messen können.
- Das Spiel hat mich vom Anfang bis zum Schluss gut unterhalten und vor allem auf Hard war es wirklich bis zum Schluss (mit manche Hängern zwischendurch) wirklich sehr anspruchsvoll/knackig.
- Da sich die Charaktere wirklich unterschiedlich spielen ist der Wiederspielwert (da es eben vom Gameplay und nicht durch die Story getragen wird) def. hoch.
- Wenn man das Spiel 1x durchgespielt hat, stehen einem NG+ und Reborn zur Verfügung.
Beim NG+ das man mit seiner alten Party bestreiten darf behält man alle Achievments sowie Collections, verliert aber alle Items und Ausrüstung.
In Reborn beginnt man das Spiel erneut und darf alle Items sowie Achievments+ Collections behalten.
Negativ:
- Die Story. Jene ist nicht nur äußerst simpel gehalten, aber es gibt auch einfach nur sehr wenige Gespräche die von Bedeutung sind. Zwar gibt es überall Personen, aber das Writing ist nicht wirklich gut oder gelungen.
- Das Fischen-Minigame finde ich äußerst langweilig, aber da es außer div. Highlevelfischen KEINE Rezzitems im Spiel gibt, ist das quasi eine Pflicht, wenn man wie ich nur mit einem Charakter spielt der rezzen konnte.
- Manche der Rätsel sind äußerst komplex bzw. andere erfordern ein gutes Reaktionsvermögen. Besonders das 50. Puzzle hat mich viel Zeit gekostet. Hier werden evtl. jüngere Spieler weniger Probleme haben als ich alter Mann ;(
- Das Ende hat mir nicht SOO gut gefallen, da es recht kurz ausfiel.
Neutral:
- Die Grafik ist halt eine RPG-Maker-Grafik. Mich stört das nicht, aber Grafikfetischisten werden sich evtl. an der 2,5D- Grafik stören.
- Wenn man nicht gerade auf Very Easy etc. spielt, sollte einem das Grinding def. liegen! Bis man später leicht Geld verdienen kann, muss man gerade am Anfang rel. oft grinden (später aber auch, wenn auch aus anderen Gründen wie z.B. den Craftingzutaten).
Ich grinde in solchen Spielen gern, aber es gibt wohl auch Leute die grinden hassen wie die Pest ;)
- Das Synthese-System (Craftingsystem) ist Fluch+Segen zugleich. Einerseits finde ich es gut, das man nicht zu einfach an sehr gute Items kommen kann, aber die Droprate von gewissen dringend benötigten Craftreagenzien ist vor allem im Endgame ziemlich frustrierend. Hat man es aber geschafft dann freut mich sich def. darüber, denn die Items sind einfach sehr mächtig und auch am Anfang merkt man sofort den Sprung in der Stärke seiner Charaktere.
- Ich habe die offizielle Komplettlösung (Strategy-Guide) benutzt, da ich gern alles beim 1. Durchlauf finde. Diesen findet man hier:

Der Guide war nicht perfekt, aber doch eine enorm große Hilfe. Ich glaube ohne hätte ich manche Puzzles nicht hinbekommen ^^
Die Bewertung ist nun relativ schwierig!
Das Spiel lebt eben von seinen Gameplaymechaniken und nicht wirklich von seiner Story. Jene ist wirklich nur sehr simpel gehalten.
Da ich jedoch ein alter Fan von eher simplen RPGs und JRPGs war und bis heute noch bin, vergebe ich hier dennoch gerne 7/10 Sterne.
Wäre die Story bzw. das Writing noch wesentlich besser gewesen, dann hätte es def. solche Indie-RPG-Perlen wie Ara Fell etc. toppen können.
So bleibt es ein solides, wenn auch storymäßig sehr seichtes RPG mit einem sehr guten Kampfsystem bzw. sehr guten Spielmechaniken + sehr passenden Soundgeräuschen und einer passenden Musik.
Für Genrefans der alten Schule kann ich es def. empfehlen! :)
Last Dream impressed me in some ways but disappointed me in many others. I love how you can customize the difficulty. Instead of picking just a difficulty level you can also choose the encounter rate for enemies as well as changing the save system to suit you. I also liked the character upgrade system. You can learn a variety of skills that gives you a wide variety of play styles. The story is very deep, even for a JRPG. Past that though begins the bad. First off the game has no quest log. As I said the story is pretty deep and you’re given no way to keep track of quests or keep track of story updates. Another issue that ties in to this is the poor map system. Even if you are diligent and write down all details on paper the map hinders you by not having much detail outside and zero detail indoors. I found certain places such as the Forest Tower to be almost maze like and all the map would show is that I was in the tower itself. Even outside certain locations such as the Forest of Despair didn’t show up. Other times the vague instructions on where to find certain creatures for a quest seemed way off where I actually found them. Another issue I had was that there is almost no way to regain MP for your characters. You can fish but I only know this from forums as this is never mentioned in game during my play through. I found a couple MP potions but only two and after eight hours of game play. Basically it makes any long excursion into a hostile cave or area a chore as often I have to retreat to go use a Tent or find an Inn so that my Mage can actually do their job. Considering there are tons of different potions and other items at shops any town I go to I don’t see why MP potions weren’t an option or even having an MP regeneration skill. The issue that finally broke me was the fact that there are areas, such as Mt Gerra, where you are forced to walk across lava or other surfaces that actively hurt your characters. This is expected behaviour and you’re just supposed to keep healing as you go which is such a bad idea. The puzzles in game were a mixed bag. Some were pretty decent and others I found annoying. My last gripe is that you can’t access the main menu during a battle. So for instance if I know that I am going to lose a fight I can’t just load a save or even quit to the main menu. My only two options are play it out and reload after or hit Alt-F4 and exit the game then relaunch.
I played Last Dream on Linux. It never crashed and I didn’t notice any bugs or spelling errors. You can choose to manually save or save at specific points in game. If you choose manually saving there are twenty save slots. There are no graphics options at all aside from v-sync. Regardless of whether you enable v-sync or not the frame rate is capped at 60 FPS so it’s kind of pointless. That being said it runs at a constant 60 FPS even on my Intel onboard graphics. I used my Logitech game pad without any issues.

There are some good elements to Last Dream but they’re buried under the mountain of design choices I didn’t like. I played through ten hours and forty four minutes of the campaign. This was enough time to get a ship and make it to the Eastern Continent to start doing various missions there. I paid $3.29 CAD for the game but even that steep discount didn’t make up for the shortcomings.

Solid gameplay, many interesting approaches to team customization, and there is a PDF walkthrough which is well-written and helpful.
This is clearly a love letter to primarily the original Final Fantasy, which was exactly what I was looking for. There are a few wonky things that seem like good ideas which weren't quite finished, but none of it is game breaking in any way. If you want to pick your characters from different classes and roam about an 8-bit world then this is for you.
I will say that the music choices were a bit on and off for me so download some old Final Fantasy tracks if you prefer.

Last Dream é um jogo interessante, mas para um RPG ele falha bastante no desenvolvimento da história principal. Como o jogo te dá um mundo aberto a ser explorado, é possível em vários pontos simplesmente pular a história indo direto a pontos onde aconteceriam coisas que você nem tinha conhecimento que existiam ainda, o que acaba quebrando o clima do jogo.
Seguem os pontos positivos e negativos:
+ Bom sistema de aprendizado de habilidades;
+ Boa variedade de monstros;
+ Música e efeitos OK;
+ Bastante NPCs com funções próprias e que mudam de conversa conforme você avança no jogo;
+ Grande quantidade de bons puzzles;
- Quantidade absurda de itens ocultos em objetos do cenário sem grandes pistas te fazem ter que ficar interagindo com cada tile do jogo;
- Altamente grindante;
- Os monstros e masmorra iniciais do jogo ficam dentro da primeira cidade, mas logo de cara o jogo te manda pro mapa mundo onde você com sorte vai conseguir deitar um bicho (considerando o nível HARD);
- A tentativa de tornar o jogo mundo aberto fez possível pular pedaços da história e fazer tudo não ter muito sentido;

What about using a standard party of Knight, Thief, White Mage & Black Mage?
Have fun traversing the overworld, where you needlessly have to run around some things because you can't use the shortcut.
And do it especially slow, since you can't run on the overworld and you don't have the Hunter.
I can't stress enough how much I despise this system.
I've started this game so many times... but no...
I either use the party I want and crawl my way through the game, or I use the party I need and have extremely disadvantages in battle, since the utility classes are a piece of crap in battle.
Highly recommended to anyone who likes old-school RPG as this game is wonderfully recreating the vibe or very early Final Fantasy gameplay. There aren't anything spectacularly inspiring to be completely honest, but for the most part the game offer smooth gameplay with huge amount of explorations. The overall playtime is roughly 20 hours if you played on easiest difficulty and ignore most side quests, but it took me 40 hours to finish about ~90% content on my first playthrough, with probably more content in New Game +
In my humble opinion, this game has fully exploited RPGM's capabilities of its time and presented a solid game with the traditional JRPG style. One detailed that left me with a very positive impression is that almost all NPC in this game has their dialogue changes as you progress through the game, and many of these NPC actually are inter-related and have their own small plots. Although I would say the story of this game isn't especially outstanding, but the effort that puts into enriching this immersive world is very respectable.
BUT...
The puzzles are a nice addition to an RPG but some puzzles in this game are a bit too much and rage-inducing. Although vast majority of these puzzles are optional, and most of them are rather simple fun logic puzzles, but there are a few very difficult ones that would take a pen and paper plus literally hours sitting in front of your desk. Most puzzle also reward you with sh*tty consumables so that's another disappointment. [strike]As of writing this review right now I've been stuck on the same puzzle (Daedalus's tower) for more than an hour now and is terribly annoyed, plus I've also played another similarly annoying patience-demanding puzzle (mine field) just a while ago, and I can be completely honest that I'm currently filled with extreme rage and annoyance, partially due to the game softlocking me in the current puzzle with annoying encounters. I have to say that RPGM is not a good engine to create large scale puzzles, especially those that requires running across maps that are few-screens-wide flipping switches on-and-off hoping to get the right combination to open the right path. Not to mention when you added extremely annoying enemies that could give debuffs or insta-kill.

Great backstory. Somewhat of an Isekai protagonist. OPTIONS. Lots of options and menus, including a very useful Map and battle Macros to speed things up! Great music selection for the cut scenes and BGM. One of the few games that really takes me back to the old JRPGs on the older consoles.

I tried to enjoy this but, I fell asleep repeatedly. This isn't play time - it's snooze time.
Final fantasy 1 but with more things to do
Once again I wish there was a more neutral option. This game isn't terrible, but I found too many things about it that I did not like, which started to ruin the experience. I just simply lost interest, and gave up. The story just was not doing it for me, and I really hated the game forcing my hand and making my character make a certain choice that seemed -really- stupid and kinda evil. It just clashed with the tone of the story to that point. This game would really benefit from having a journal, as several times I stopped playing for a few days, came back and couldn't remember where I was suppose to be going. The puzzles are more annoying and overly tedious rather than fun and challenging. Some of the dungeons are super easy, then suddenly one is really annoyingly difficult and forces you to waste a ton of spells and potions. I feel a little bad bashing on the game this much, because I did enjoy some things, the music is nice. Lots of metal-ish style battle music. I enjoyed the combat system.. But I just hit a point where I did not want to play anymore.

6.小怪动不动就aoe睡眠/中毒/麻痹 我真服了 我只能练级到更高级才敢来挑战之前等级的洞穴。
7.战斗中的中毒/麻痹状态居然可以持续到战斗以外。本来就缺蓝，还要用来给大家解debuff。
8.好不容易做个猎人工会的任务，还要屁颠屁颠的跑那么远回那个猎人工会去领取奖励。恶意延长游戏时间是吧。
9.陆行鸟不能做个快捷键召唤？
10.剧情平淡，bgm听着有点吵。

This is masterpiece homage to Final Fantasy other classic RPG's. Extremely well designed and clearly the result of a TON of work and a massive labor of love for the developers. It's always a joy to come back to this game.

Steuerung leider komplett anders als man normalerweise von RPGM Spielen gewohnt ist. Menü wird mit A geöffnet, um es zu schließen muss man X klicken. Normal wäre X öffnen und X schließen oder das gleiche einfach mit NUM 0. In dem Steuerungsoptionen ist eine Doppelbelegung allerdings nicht möglich. Wieso auch immer.
This is a game that was clearly made by people who love rpgs. And by love I mean: the kind of people who, from the time their age was a single digit, kept notebooks of game strategies and secrets, things they liked and didn't like about games and ideas of what their perfect game would have to include that were worked out over decades. People that probably didn't have a lot of friends, but the ones they had were basically (or literally) members of their family and shared that same passion for games. They couldn't be friends otherwise, because that's practically all they would ever want to think or talk about. You can see that they really did have friends though, because there is respect shown for all different types of playing styles and a refreshing lack of "this is my game and you must play it the way that I want" mentality. A true marriage of sandbox and old school rpg.

Though this game offers lots of puzzles, treasure, party load outs, and story routes, I can not recommend it. For me to recommend an RPG maker game with turned based combat it has to have a near perfect game flow, perfect game mechanics, and obvious controls. This game doesn't have that.
From the controls to something as basic as recovering magic points nothing is properly explained. Worse, it appears that magic power doesn't regenerate after sleep. Do you need get a magic recovery potion? Do you need to sleep more? Do you have to go to a temple for more magic power? Getting an answer would take me upwards of 5 to 10 minutes. Maybe more. Figuring out how to save the game took me 30 minutes, and that feature was right under my eye. Magic power that doesn't generate...that alone breaks the game for me.
Even worse than the lack of clear explanation and wonky controls, the game strands you on a tiny island with a dungeon, a town, a broken bridge, and a dock. The town has shops and quest givers. So this is done properly. But how do you repair the bridge? I talked to most of the townspeople and got no answer to this. Does clearing the dungeon give the answer, or maybe a couple wood planks to use for the repairs? Don't know. My team died at the end of the dungeon because my character that had a spell that could handle the enemies ran out of magic power. When I get to the dock, there is just a man offering to sell me bait. No ship. No town. Who heard of a dock without a town? So I am stuck on this island with nothing to do. I don't play games that require me to read manuals or watch walk throughs. Call me a newb. Call me a casual gamer. As someone who started playing games when ms pacman could only be played in an arcade, I know enough about gaming that I can just dive into most games. Not so this one.
But even the world of gaming is full of different type of people. Fans of these RPG maker games might find the controls obvious. Maybe being stuck on an island with nothing to do is the norm in such games. i don't know or care. I am on to the next game.

I have had this game for quite some time and have played it on and off. It is great fun with lots of surprises and things to do.
Also the retro feel is just great, music in game is varied and changes according to area and complements the immersion when playing. I wholeheartedly recommend this game, it is definitely worth the price.
Crashed twice in my first 10 min of playing. I don't enjoy playing games that aren't stable, so I'm not going to play any more of it. From what I saw, the dialog was stilted and terrible, but the combat system seemed nice. Oh well.

Average because it's a typical RPG Maker game. The story and characters are neither particularly fun nor interesting. Art and music are nothing special either. Nothing about it is absolutely terrible, but you can spend your time in better ways.
Which leads me to the actual painful part: The amount of time this game wants you to invest. I have nothing against longer games, but if it's not fun to play it simply becomes a slog. On top of that, if the story isn't a reward either then there's really nothing left to keep you playing. I can get through a purely average game if it at least doesn't waste too much of my time. However, if you want me to spend roughly 40 to 60 hours on your unfortunately mediocre game, I'm out.
Forgot to give this thumbs up. One of the best RPG Maker game you can find here even with mostly standard assets. It's classic Final Fantasy on steroids.

This has a great old school feel, and I absolutely love that can manually build your stats out on each character to create who you really want for each class. I started on Standard Normal (wish I could remember the true name of the settings) but opted to restart within about 15 minutes to a Grindy Hard difficulty. The hard was only really hard for the first level or two, but the grindy setting has really allowed me to maximize the return on difficulty with more experience and skill points. Overall, the fact that you can even adjust these settings for your play type is amazing. I'm really enjoying this game, and one of the best things, I got it on sale, which feels like a steal.

Can win in 3 hours, or can take 60 hours to complete and craft everything, so there is something for everyone. Old school feel, similar classes to original Final Fantasy. Good times, and brace yourself if legendary mode is your goal, it is pretty darn challenging.
Okay. Let's be real here. This game scratches the itch of certain people and not others. Personally, it scratched my own nostalgia itch and need to play some old fashion jrpgs from SNES era. I have (at time of review) 36.4 hours in this game. I still haven't beat it. Is the story the best? No, but I've seen much much worse. It's a game that comes from the heart of the developers.
If you loved SNES jrpgs, old school, and don't mind a game made on RPGmaker style program, go for it. It's really not that expensive. It's a good game for the price. If you're worried about the price, catch it on sale. Good hunting!
One of my favorite retro RPGs. Great storyline, classic turn-based battle and exceptional music. If you like Final Fantasy 1 and 4 you'll dig it.
An RPG inspired by the original Final Fantasy that improves on it in many ways, most of them being excellent design choices that are a mix of modern gaming and classic freedom. Highly recommended for anyone who is a fan of turn-based, classic RPG's.

Great old school FF like game
Quite possibly one of the most underrated and unrecognized RPG's of all time.
Done with RPG Maker but extremely well. It captures all the best elements of the old Final Fantasy party-building RPGs. There's an interesting story and enough side quests and other activities to really feel like an open world game.

Le jeux est simple et reprend les code du RPG. Les puzzles sont aussi assez facile mais parfois pas forcément intéressent (ex: a un moment on a un labyrinthe dont les murs sont ... invisible).
Le problème principale de celui-ci est la gestion de la difficulté. Dans le même donjon, tu passe d'un écran ou les monstre sont pas vraiment dangereux à un autre où il te roule dessus sans pouvoir s'enfuir.
Petit plaisir tous de même, les musiques reprennes des symphonie connu en mode 8 bit. Mais ça ne suffit pas pour vraiment accrocher.

Amazing old-school JRPG, a big world without the handholding of modern games.
Playing on legendary it's an actual challenge (But also a grind) although sometimes it's a little RNG heavy - If you grind safely in a spot and absolutely annihilate the enemies, suddenly you can get ambushed and get CC'd enough to just outright die instantly if you're unlucky (Though this is only on legendary difficulty)
A great experience for turn-based combat JRPG loving players. Feels heavily inspired by Final Fantasy, but not copied from (Apart from a few references here and there)
Polish the dirt off enough and you'll find a diamond in the rough.
Last Dream looks and feels like the cheapest of the cheap RPG Maker games, but despite the very bare bones assets and plot, there's genuinely a mechanically complex homage to classic NES RPGs to be had here. This game plays like Final Fantasy 1 on steroids. If you're even bothering to look at this game. Odds are you're probably just looking to see if it's any good.
If you're willing to put up with weird RPG Maker jank, this is arguably one of the best of this genre you can play.
A fantastic RPG in line with Final Fantasy 2. Nice music, beatiful sprites, a hure world to explore, a decent main quest and lots and lots of stuff to do beside it. Easily 40+ hours of playtime if you want to explore and find everything. Well worth playing for any classic RPG fanatic.
RPG Maker strikes again! This is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel JRPG ripoffs spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club weeaboo fan fiction. Also, like all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer.
While the story outline and "content" volume is greater than most RPG Maker trainwrecks, the quality is the same... asset flips, cringey highschool anime club evictee fanfiction, and the same old terrible gameplay you would expect when someone unqualified to make a video game is given tools to create a video game.
Gamers who want a good retro JRPG experience would be better off playing the originals, like Final Fantasy, Star Ocean or Chrono Trigger. The $10 USD price tag here is pure comedy gold. Leave this terrible fan fiction in the shovelware bundles where it belongs.
An ode to Final Fantasy. The ability to solo character the game is great.
Yeah, there's a lot of RPGMaker games out there. Yeah, a lot of them are pretty awful, and yeah, a lot of them are pretty fantastic and deserve recognition. But Last Dream? Last Dream is something else.
It's got a very moving story and lore behind it. Nothing impressive enough to charm your pants off or something you've never seen before, but it's something unusually beautiful and it's brought to life by a dark narrative alongside your own protagonist's totally nonsensical existence in this world that exists regardless of him. It's a medium through which to tell these developer's story they clearly spent a lot of time and effort crafting.
The combat is pieced together nicely, reminiscent of the first Final Fantasy as I'm certain you've read already, but with customization and smooth point allocation in all the right places to make this the best version of FF1 you'll ever come across. With a huge world and lots of variety in monsters, classes, and weapons, this is the perfect, simple but as complex as you make it RPG to pop in and level for a little for the rest of your gaming days, squeezed in between whatever your AAA fancy is.
I recommend Last Dream like I recommend my favorite coffee shop. It's the best there is, for what it is -- cheap, easy to access, but customized to either be fancy or just "get the damn caffeine in me." But if you don't like coffee, you obviously won't like the coffee shop.
Good story and gameplay HOWEVER the damn puzzles ruined everything for me. I found myself SO frustrated with some, even AFTER having to find a walkthrough that I just gave up. It's such a shame since everything else was great. The damn puzzles were just too much.
Loved the retro look, much like Lufia or the early FF. The fighting is smooth, the story is interesting, and I've mostly enjoyed it so far. But some of the puzzles are brutal, not challenging, just rage inducing. And trying to find anything online to help you out is impossible. Some require excellent hand-eye coordination which I don't have, and is the reason I only get turn-based games. Others are just so poorly explained as to your goal you aren't even sure what to do. I love puzzles. But one involving moving four snowballs shouldn't have you rage quitting after an hour. If you are the type who can say, "no biggie, I just won't bother with this one", fine. So far I haven't found one you have to solve to move forward. But if you like to do everything good luck. The puzzle developer is a bloody sociopath. I'm stepping away from an otherwise good game because of it.

Who mapped the keys to this game. I got so frustrated by the incompetent set up that i am not playing it. I cannot even figure out how to hit the escape key as that does nothing. Enter doe nothing. I guess confirm is the Z button????? Yeah you hit Z to select options like new game and options.... could not figure out the back button so I just ctrl Alt Deleted and ended the process.

-> Somes aspect of the game can be customizable(where you can save, odd of encounter, difficulty)
So far, I've had a lot of fun;
You actually need to stock up on items and uses your ability removing spells since monsters uses status effects abilities. I had to do a little of grinding to buy spells and items cause I was getting pounded a lot(play at hard I think). I've been killed properly when I met the first big boss I encountered and had difficulty with the second I attacked. Feels like fighting boss. Had to use all my spells and items and one of my dude was dead.
Characters are having different type of skill sets, not sure every class is useful but so far I' m okay with my black mage, white mage, fighter and thief combo.
You can create weapons with items you find on your ways(if you discovered the recipe).
Not sure if there are different outcome for some events but I've encounter a situation where I could get bribed and choose not to.
So far so good. Game play is good. Seems to have some features to do other stuff like fishing.
Sometimes, you just want to play a game like Final Fantasy 1, select a party, and grind out some levels. This game absolutely scratches that itch, with a lot more to do than FF1. Each level and even each battle gives you a chance to learn new skills. At levels up, you get points to distribute on stats, allowing you to totally customize your party. Want to have a party with a glass canon supported by others? Do it. Want to balance everybody? Go ahead. Lots of customization. It's a fun game.
The story so far (3ish hours in) is pretty bare bones. Some old evil out there, probably gonna have to fight it at some point. Who cares? I'm gonna go level up again so my monk can keep one-shotting everything.
It's a good game for what it does. If you enjoy playing old retro rpg's (NES and SNES days), then this is a pretty solid turn-based rpg I would recommend.
No one design aspect or game mechanic clearly stands out as ground-breaking or amazing, but in a way, the fact that it isn't weak in any area is quite pleasant... Like having a nice lunch during a mediocre work day - this nice game is worth the price (if you like old school, turn-based RPG's), but you probably won't be remembering it years down the road.
Absolute amazing tribute to classic JRPGs. A pretty good story, some really tricky puzzles, and LOTS of content. Music is ok, nothing really memorable. I did like some of the heavy metal tracks for some of the fights. Customized character stats is cool, but abilities are a bit limited.

Despite playing this game for 35 hours, I can't say I even recommend it. For one thing, this is a VERY RPGMaker game. Almost all of the graphical assets, especially the pixel art feels very inconsistent and ugly. There are a lot of music tracks, but I would say there are actually too many. No individual song plays enough for it to stick in your head, and none of them were particularly catchy. I did recognize a few metal covers of classical music like Toccata and Fugue, which makes me wonder how much of it was covers of public domain music.
Because you create your characters from scratch, nothing you do has any impact on the plot. Your characters don't have dialogue or personalities. Everything is shown to you in flashbacks that have nothing to do with what you do, and you'll only get one or two of those flashbacks every couple hours. I honestly couldn't tell you what the game was supposed to be about, other than a series of dungeons and bosses to kill.
The gameplay itself is extremely easy. Every single boss is the same: keep your health up and do damage, and you'll win. I can't think of a single boss that deviated from this strategy. If they really feel like mixing it up, a boss might toss out some status effects or instant kill attacks, but you can wear rings to negate those. Also, if your white mage dies, you might as well load, because the only ways you can resurrect characters is either the Life spell or an NPC in town. There is no "phoenix down" type item. Also, you can only use Tents or other full party HP/Mana items in the world map, not at save points, and you can't buy mana potions, so you really have to focus on conserving your mana. This means that for most non-boss fights your casters just sit around while your martial characters auto-attack, tossing out maybe an odd heal.
You don't have to think about gear choices for any of your characters at all. All of the weapons and armor are straight upgrades, and the 2 accessory slots are devoted to immunity to whatever status effect is most common in the current dungeon. The level up and skill buying system is OK, and you get to make some choices as to what you want to invest in there.
This game definitely was made with the philosophy "quantity over quality." The free guide/walkthrough they provide is 752 pages. If you don't follow the guide, you frequently have no idea where to go next, and it's extremely easy to get lost in the labyrinthine dungeons.

This review comes from an RPG veteran from the early days and someone who makes RPGs.
Last Dream is a massive love letter to the origins of RPGs and a testament to what RPG Maker
is capable of in the right hands. The character creation and construction is superb and
the mechanics being the stat system are 100% unique as far as I've seen.
The development team has a distinct appreciation for the first Final Fantasy and Lufia 2.
The story was interesting, focusing less on characters so much as telling a
story of madness and obsession over eons. I generally dislike games with silent
protagonists, but this time I found myself reflecting on what was presented and
I felt invested in the story. It's a strange thing to encounter a tale about
a person completely foreign to the events and circumstances surrounding them.
Their perception, regardless of motivations for continuing, is more or less forced
into reflective judgement and arbitration.
(Perhaps this is where silent protagonists work for me, unlike games such as
Dragon Quest or Chrono Trigger.)
Exploring areas and hunting down treasure was fun, I also loved the battle arena and the hunter's guild. Even on hard mode I didn't find the game discouraging or upsetting. The beginning was a little slow with progression, and I felt the ship exploration was a little bogged down by random battles. No game can be perfect and every game has some areas requiring a little patience. There was a lot of extra content in Last Dream and I found a little overwhelming, especially in terms of getting all the achievements. The game has 236 achievements. While I understand some of them were created to test speed runners, I think some of them were rather absurd stretches for challenging players. Beating the game with under 25,000 steps is a discouraging challenge I don't care for, because memorizing a game that thoroughly is something better done naturally instead of being an obligation.
Despite this, I think the game plays notably well on its own merits and deserves all the praise it has received. The casino had a nice variety of games, monster types were numerous and interesting, and combat mechanics worked extremely well to keep the player engaged without overdoing it. Collecting materials for all the equipment crafting was a little monotonous, but I found it less bothersome than some of my other complaints. There were some great ideas used here, I think the main issue was the magnitude of what was available. A little more money from the monsters would have been nice, and a slightly more focused approach to equipment crafting would have helped.
I found a couple minor typos in the ending dialogue, and there were some maps where a little more attention to detail would have helped them turn out a bit less bland.
Some water tiles looked out of place, or didn't show ripples when connected to adjacent land tiles. I'm not sure what happened here, but RPG Maker's base assets have these details sorted out rather well.
(I'm not 100% familiar with all the minor quirks of the particular engine they used, so maybe there's something I'm not aware of that forced this result on the development team's side.)
I don't know when I'll get around to the sequel, but I know I'll have fun with that one too.

My downside of the game for me is the 4-character party since the 3 extra members feel they are just there for more combat options since they don't have any intro or why they join the main character I just hope if i keep playing they would have some development or some background story. The combat sucks because it feels worst than the other RPGMaker games for +18 adults that are not combat focus the only class i found more useful at the start of the game is the gray mage since is not useless if i run out of mana since the other caster classes don't do almost any melee damage or have non mana range damage if they run out of mana and party members don't get any health or mana back after combat or leveling i know i can use potions or use camp item but still doesn't make it more fun. Another minor dislike since i like to RP i don't understand why the grey mage is missing a eye and is using a eye patch if he can use white mage magic to heal the only thing i can change when choosing a character at the start i the color of the clothes i have other problems but i will update my review if i finish the game and i only recommend this game on sale.
This game is the perfect plate for JRPG Junkies. Story is ok, gameplay mechanics are cool and well made, but the game world simply has A LOT of stuff for you to do, a lot of accomplishments, side quests, extra creatures to hunt, puzzles, treasures, etc...
So yeah, if you're one of those players that love to play JRPGs such as oldschool Final Fantasy just to ♥♥♥♥ around with your characters, this is a great game for you. Otherwise, it's a cool retro JRPG made with RPG Maker VX Ace (I think).
Best five bucks I ever spent. Great little gem. This would have easily been a $60 game back in the SNES days, has replay value. I love turn based RPGs and this one is easily worth the investement.
I have over 1000 games on steam. Spent tons of money searching for that good game. One that keeps my attention and interest longer than a few hours. That has enough complexity to keep me going "ohhhhhhh" hours into it. This game seems to have that for me.
This is a game that has great character customization, Really good music (most of the time) enough "Stuff" to keep you busy but its never a bad thing. It always feels like its another hurdle to overcome, and boy does it feel good when you do. The game is hard and punishing in that old school vein. Learn to save often. It is a truly amazing game that is worth more than the money they are asking. The story is a little light but that seems to be a positive thing in this case. I will resume my march to see what more this game has to offer.
TLDR, buy buy buy.
Nostalgic Vibes 10/10. Reminds me of the old GameBoyAdvanced Final Fantasy games so much and those are classic.
Great classic style RPG, loads of side quests and collectables, i'll be putting some serious hours into this.

Loved everything about this game. Great value for money. Big world to explore. Would easily recommend this game no problem.
This is very much like Old School FF with a ton of character control and settings to tailor the game to how YOU want it.
I was worried when first playing the game that reviewers where saying it was light on the story. The story is present its just given to you at certain checkpoints of the game to show your progressing.
This game is not compatible with current MacOS Catalina (64-Bit).
One of the best open JRPG's to come out of RPG Maker. Whilst lighter on the story than most, it makes up for it by being very free and open, and having lots of fun events, decisions and some nice late game dungeon delves.

Incredibly fun little game. A little rough around the edges but surprisingly found myself enjoying this more than many AA or AAA titles recently.
The game rewards getting out there and exploring, both the world and the game's mechanics. Something interesting always happens, progression is tuned very nicely to keep you engaged and interested.
I like it very much. It reminds me of mine childhood. GREAT THANKS to game maker. You cannot make a lot of money by this, but you bring a lot of fun to us.

LOVE THIS GAME. There is so much you can do and so many variations with game. I've played it 5 times and spent probably about 95 hours on it and still have numerous game play options I haven't done. Would recommend all the Last Dream games! (Especially if you like old-school RPG games like the Fire Emblem games I played as a kid.)
This is one of the best RPG Maker games I have played.
You create your party of 4 from a choice of 8 classes and begin your journey in a huge open world.

- awesome (sometimes challenging) puzzles to solve

Be prepared for a long and epic adventure.
