Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders is a tactical wargame developed by the Korean studio Phantagram for the Xbox. It is the sequel to the 2001 game Kingdom Under Fire: A War of Heroes, and continues its storyline. Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders combines third-person action and role-playing elements in its gameplay, which differs from its predecessor. Its sequel is Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes. Another sequel is to be released in 2015 entitled Kingdom Under Fire II for PC and PlayStation 4.

Le jeu est super, mais les sauvegardes ne fonctionnent pas bien. On peu plus recharger les parties jusqu'à ce qu'om obtienne ce qu'on désir pour les upgrades. Désormais, chaque chargement cré une nouvelle sauvegarde il y a un nombre maximal de sauvegardes. Après cela, le jeu est cassé et inutilisable.

Cool game, I like the setting and many other aspects of this game, a real gem for dark fantasy enjoyer. A good mix of RTS, RPG and hack&slash elements. Although, both the camera controls and the unit controls aren't great. Overall, the game is quite enjoyable.

Games (and movies) from 90s-00s are much better than 90% of modern products.

A jank, but fun jank, hybrid of a hack-n-slash and RTS. If you haven't seen/heard of the gameplay, how it works is that you control/position your units like in a normal RTS, but when your main unit engages in combat it switches gameplay and allows you to manually control your hero to attack troops. You have a resource meter at the bottom of your screen that allows you to either perform special attacks with your hero (or two other officers assigned to you) in the hack-n-slash mode or allow your units in RTS mode to perform special abilities/techniques.

The game isn't without a few flaws and shortcomings. For starters, difficulty is character specific, and each character has their own campaign. To play as the hard mode characters, you need to beat normal mode, but the game's introduction and tutorial is on the easy mode character. For the first two campaigns (easy and normal), the game can get boring at times due to it not being very challenging; You get away with a lot of mistakes and difficult areas feel more monotonous than an actual challenge. From these two campaigns, the only time I had to strategize is at the end of each campaign, but it didn't feel like a substantial leap.

And then hard mode starts

If you weren't paying attention and didn't practice how to efficiently use and move around your troops in the first two campaigns, then hard mode is a rude awakening. It makes sense why the game spends time teaching you the mechanics on an easier difficulty, but the pacing makes it to where you don't care to learn and get punished going into hard mode.

While this sounds bad, I don't consider this to be a dealbreaker for the game. It's still a fun-jank game, you get to play an action RTS while metal music is constantly blaring, and the hero of the villain hard campaign, the leader of the dark forces, is named [i]Rick Blood[/i]. I haven't played much of the other game, Heroes, but it's essentially an expansion to Crusaders in terms of more characters/levels to play that help to explain more about the plot.

kingdom under fire the crusaders is one of my favorite games mixing real time strategy and hack and slash combat with micromanaging arm's love this, works well on steam deck and docked. Warning need to manually save on the world map no auto save. Some levels are really out of date and badly designed for example the level stormdeen is an escort stealth mission with arm's what the hell were they thinking. There are forced stealth missions but twas the time that and the needed manual save is a blast from the past. Its a good port and if you like dynasty warriors combat and real-time strategy this game is for you highly recommend.

I want to like this game, but the mechanics of the game such as maneuvering the troops on screen or mini map prove to be extremely clumsy and disheartening. The camera controls can be awful if field objects such as trees interfere with line of sight or another troop intercepts the movement trajectory, which is also poorly designed. I give the game a 5/10 for effort, but not worth the headache.

I enjoy the game but every time I try to overwrite a save slot or delete a save the game just crashes and gets stuck saying saving. i cant even alt tab to get out, I have restart my PC to exit out of the game launcher. I fear this may eventually make this unplayable since it looks as though you only get 99 save slots.

this port is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ joke, calling it an HD remaster is an even bigger joke.
If you liked the game originally, you'll still like this, but there are zero graphics options (you have to restart the game to even change the resolution)

Textures and models are identical to the point where it doesn't even display well on modern screens.

I dont know what's more baffling, the fact that the reviews are positive, or the fact that Blueside has the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GALL to call this an HD remake. No wonder it took 5 years for me to realize it was made.

Controls can be clunky at first but overall this is a great nostalgia trip. I first played the game on the original xbox and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to relive the excitement and experiencing the world of Kingdom Under Fire. I have not played any other game that scratches the itch of RTS plus hacking and slashing my way through enemies simultaneously. Still on the search, though, but in the meantime I'll purchase KUF: Heroes and go back to my happy place. 10/10 recommend

to whoever has not played this game.... yes yes yes yes, its worth all the time you have in the world. i played this game when i was like in middle school. I never did fully beat the game, i got stuck on Regnier. All these years later and i truly believe this game still holds up versus modern games. It feels as fun as i remember it and ive been enjoying myself all over again. If you like rpgs then this is worth looking at.

TL;DR I give it a 4/5. It's a port of an old game, if you care about graphics a lot you won't like it this game came out in 480p, and yeah there are bugs. I haven't had any CTDs in normal play but anything can happen.

I love this game, and Crusaders too. The game is hard, it always was, but not that hard. Some levels are almost puzzle like. While most are just about using your units efficiently. There are some bugs that weren't present in the original (two minor pathing issues/ and one map bug also minor). But otherwise this game is a good port. Some people have had issues with CTD, but I've only had those issues when I try mods. Unfortunately due to the lack of popularity of this game and it's series the modding community came and went pretty fast. It's a shame, cause these two titles have so much potential. Crusaders and Heroes are both master pieces IMO. Yes they're not perfect, but they were the start of something great, then circle of doom came out on the 360, that was a fail. And then Kingdom Under Fire 2 "Online" The game was pretty, the physics were AAA quality, and that's the only good thing you can say about KUF2. I wish so much they would of just stuck to their Genre, instead the studio gambled high and lost. These two games though? Great music, Good heartfelt, sometimes dark and gritty struggles/story. Music that makes you wanna stab an Elf; dark or otherwise. I hope someday a modern version of this game comes out.

A certified hood classic.
Metal music and bashing hordes of mentally handicapped AI.

Aside from janky controls, it's a great, old-school mix of RPG and strategy game with a surprisingly good plot-twists.
You control small armies of troops, each with their own upgrades and commanders as well as engage in fight personally.
There's a decent amount of cringy dialogues as well as a really good story that needs time to surprise you.

You can't imagine how much I would sacrifice for a full on remake of Crusaders and Heroes. Redefined cutscenes, better control while maintaining that B-movie style with cringy dialogues and metal music.

This is such a cool game idea, but it is the WORST level design ever. Instead of having you build and tactically/strategically beat your opponent, you pretty much have to do exactly as the scenario describes you to. The game is just awful in this regard.
They really need to revisit the game-play and make a totally new game, but as it stands, I'd avoid this unless you like to run from checkpoint to checkpoint.

Amazing game, difficult in the right ways; however, it keeps crashing any time you try to do something with the game data. Want to save? Want to load? Want to delete a game? Too bad. The game crashes and you have to go through a whole rigamaroo to just get it to close out, not to mention all the progress you lose. Love the game but this is a huge fumble.

I absolutely love this game. I played it a ton back in the early 2000s on Xbox and picked it up on Steam pretty much for the sake of nostalgia. This game is incredibly under rated mostly due to it's obscurity. I have never met someone IRL who even knows that it exists. In my mind it is the perfect mash up of RPG, RTS, and hack and slash. The only way I can describe it and it doesn't quite do justice is total war meets dynasty warrior. The story is epic and does a good job at sucking you into the narrative. There is an effort at showing the ontological existence of metaphysical concepts. That gives the story a weight that most modern games just don't have. Characters are memorable and I always loved that playing though the different campaigns allows you to see both sides of the conflict. The lore is bad ass and the soundtrack is absolutely amazing as well. All of these aspects are unique and combine to create an unforgettable experience.

Of course the major issue is that this is a port of a 20 year old game and there can be control issue regarding the camera, as well as the graphics look very dated. However given that this game is over 20 years old I am even more impressed now seeing what they were able to do and the methods they used to make the game work on old hardware. One example is the fog of war, it's necessary for the game to work because it is a way to limit the number of characters that need to be drawn on screen. That said they pulled it off wonderfully it feels atmospheric like it's just the way the world is rather than an engine limitation.

I really wish they would make another game in this series that was like this one or even remaster/remake this specific game. It's a marvel that we don't have more modern examples of this style of game. If you haven't gathered though my gushing I highly recommend giving this a try.

Graphics are good considering it's over 20 years old. Controls are sluggish on PC, but the story and game play are still phenomenal! Probably best soundtrack in any game ever. I seriously wish someone would remake this with updated graphics/audio.

You control troops (infantry, archers, cavalry, etc.) and level them up. Command them around the map and switch to third person hack and slash when you're in melee.

It's a bizarre format for a game, surely. A Dynasty Warriors game fused with RTS elements. The best comparison to it is Bladestorm and I'm not sure how many people played that. The game is fun. It's story is solid dark fantasy fare, it's levels are fun, the character designs are cool, and each character plays very differently. The only real complaints that I have is against the replayability and character selection. There's no free mode allowing you to play story missions with another character which is really limited when there's only four playable characters.
And yes, I did write FOUR characters. That's all you play as, which is strange for a musou type game. There's plenty others in the game, but unfortunately, they cannot be played. However, they are all playable in the sequel and each has a unique story mode, so you really are meant to get both games.

An extremely unique RTS / RPG. Perfectly melding Hack'n'Slash with tactical army management. It kind of plays like a simplified Total War game where you control the commander in battle yourself. I'm glad I stumbled upon this one.
There is very limited 'grand strategy'. You are usually just picking which battlefield to go to next in a fairly linear fashion.
A large part of the fun is allocating experience points to units and choosing their skills and jobs. The choices you make will largely effect your ability to progress in the game but there are also many different compositions and play styles you can choose to succeed.
The story is engaging, a little dated and in some cases hilariously translated or voice acted. It could be better but it works.
The art style and character designs are fantastic.
My only frustration with this game, is that for some reason, in the PC port, the word Patriarch or any variation like Patriarchal has been cut from the audio, and it comes up a lot. This can sometimes make following the dialog a bit confusing because it doesn't just blank the word, it's cut and the word is instantly skipped. Also I have no idea why such a word would be cut. Jumping back into Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders on Steam feels like rekindling an old friendship. Originally an OG Xbox classic, this game has made the transition to PC with nearly flawless execution. With four campaigns spanning about 20 hours, you’ll experience an escalating challenge that really keeps you on your toes. The level progression and ability to power up through items make the grind worthwhile, and it’s super rewarding to feel your units get stronger with each mission.

Though the graphics show their age, the gameplay and story still feel relevant—almost timeless. If you’re into RTS and RPGs, Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders is a must-play. Its unique blend of genres and immersive campaigns will pull you in and keep you hooked. Highly recommended!

This is and forever will be one of my most favorite games in the entire world . I hope one day they revive this franchise because it is honestly what i wanted warhammer to be . Warhammer should buy them even and merge the lore . I will be waiting for the proper sequels like the old lady from the titanic .

When i discovered that this had been put onto steam, i immediately purchased. Its been years since i played, but it is still just as good now. It has its moments sure, but honestly, it does what it does better than some other games that are somewhat similar. If you've played Viking: Battle for Aasgard, you know what i mean. This game came out 4 years earlier on a previous generation system, is twice as good and a hell of a lot more fun. Definitely worth 20 dollars in my opinion.

This game was my first entry into the strategy genre and I'm so glad that it was rereleased and made more widely available. The writing can be cheesey at times but everything else makes up for it. All 4 campaigns play completely differently, both in the sense of strategy and how your commander fights.

It can be difficult at times, but for the most part I'd say its fair (just don't @me when you get to Lucretias last mission.) A great tip would be to save after completing every mission but before spending any exp/gold in case you make a bad decision or upgrade units that aren't viable for the next mission.

It was wonderful being able to play with Gerald, Lucretia, Kendal, and Regnier again. Now if only they fixed KuF:Heroes so that it wasn't ridiculously hard for no reason.

Edit: Forgot to mention, my biggest disappointment was not bringing back multiplayer. That was some of the most fun I can remember having on the OG Xbox.

This is one of the few PS2 games that is just as fun to play as I remember. The story is simple but compelling. Dialogue is slightly corny but overall fits well with the story. I really like the voice acting for some reason, its clearly not the best, but they did a good job with casting. if you like war strategy games this is one you gotta. just the fact that you can command and jump in to battle with your troops and turn the tide of a battle is so satisfying. OH ONE LAST THING...THE MUSIC IS AWESOME! PERFECT MUSIC FOR BATTLE!

Its 2024 and I realize now that I didnt change, gaming did. This was the pinnacle of gameplay back in its day. It still holds strong and outshines everything on offer now. I cant believe I played this on an OG xbox with hundreds of soldiers fighting at once on screen. Not the dynasty warriors stand around and swing once an hour AI, but actual fighting. The hundreds of soldiers feels larger than dynasty warriors thousands because you cant just one shot 100 of your enemy with a single swing of your blade. You have to actually hit them a dozen times giving them weight and significance on the battlefield.

The story its awful just ignore it. The levels are alot of fun. The gameplay is unique. I wish we had games like this now. What happened?

I give this game a legit 9/10 but it doesn't really shine until after you beat the first 2 campaigns and start the hard mode ones. Those are where you have the most fun and the biggest battles. One of my favorite games of all time.
