I'm going to be asking for a refund for the sale price of $4.34 AUD because this game just doesn't feel good to play. Overtuned enemies, clunky inventory system, very little to find in the way of exploration beyond the next resource patch, and your movement is way too sluggish and limited even with a double-jump. If there are items or abilities that improve your freedom of movement, I didn't last long enough pushing boulders uphill while the two hour playtime limit on Steam refunds approached to ever see them.
To be fair, it has some good ideas, mainly with the RPG mechanics, multiple block layers, weapons with random stat generation, class and race combos (I only saw two races to choose from - perhaps there are more to unlock?), and the ability to teleport back to your homestone, but none of them matter against the context of the game at large.
The exact point I decided I was sick of the game's bland oppression was when I'd inadvertedly lured some randomized Commander miniboss (I'd already killed the first Commander guy that was part of a scripted tutorial quest) over to my base. I was past the point where the game notified me "you drop items on death now" and it randomly chooses those items from anywhere, including armour you have equipped, or tools in your hotbar. Not the end of the world, I've played games with worse death penalties, but there was something about the ridiculous damage sponge nature of this random dude right on my base having two thirds of his health after five minutes of repeated deaths unloading everything I had. The legions of minions spawning in. The fact that as soon as I was hit for the first time as I tried to reclaw some of my dropped progress or continue the fight I became stunlocked to death. The fact that there was no storage building. The sluggishness of the movement combined with the aggression of the enemies. All of this combined with the fact that it all still felt really early game.
It's very hard for me to give up on incremental progress, because I become attached to my goals in games and usually resign myself to push through for that personal achievement dopamine. My own sunk-cost fallacy often compels me to continue with games I don't even strictly enjoy, especially if you can build a base because I gotta finish building my [i]base[/i]. Unlock all the cool stuff, measure my progress in tiers of gear and construction. Take this how you will, but with It Lurks Below, I simply realized I just didn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about the goals I had any more if it meant having to perservere with what was on the plate, and decided to drop it forever. Normally I'd feel like probing it out with another class, or change up my approach in some other way. With this game, I just don't want to suffer more of it. I'll never finish my base, or get back my copper, or find a better weapon because I have tasted what the road to them looks and feels like and I'd rather have my four bucks back.
This game is kind of like Terraria or Starbound, and in the early stages it might even feel like it ticks the same boxes. You're better off thinking of it as having a much higher focus on combat and much more shallow builder mechanics. They're pretty transparent about that, honestly, since the game is self described as action-oriented. When I say "focus" on combat, though, don't take that to mean necessarily doing so with any kind of design consideration. It just means that's most of what you're doing. If you like platformers where "damage sponge" and "screw your agency" is the key enemy design philosophy and you prefer your building elements light, then maybe you'll dig it. The Steam trailer does do a pretty good job of selling the idea that you can tackle a variety of combat situations with some interesting builds or items. The reality is that unless you want to commit beyond the refund playtime limit on this maybe-promise in a genre that has guarantees elsewhere in spades, the only thing you're going to see is a game that never breaks out of being stale and slow.

I am sorry, but crashed 3 times within 30 min of gameplay. The game looks somewhat fun, more or less a downgraded terraria with some ARPG elements. Unfortunately, due to bad stability, cannot recommend.

Ще ні разу до максимального рівня не доходив (не тільки в цій грі а й в інших діаблоїдах теж :D), але деколи хочеться відключити мозок і побігати, полутати.
I really enjoyed this. I intend to play it some more, just have so many games and so little time. Definitely recommend it if it appeals to you!
o jogo é um terraria com mod rpg, o gráfico não é bom mas pelo que o jogo entrega vale a pena, não compre esse jogo no preço cheio espere uma promoção pois não teve mais atualizações, tem bugs mas nada que vá interferir na jogatina, tem algumas classes mas a mais apelona é a do bardo pois tem uma aura de música bem grande, o jogo pra quem não tem síndrome do pc gamer vai ser ótimo mas se vc tiver vai enjoar dele rápido pois mesmo tendo bastante coisas pra fazer vai ser tudo igual onde vc desce mata um monte de mobs e encontra uma porta de boss, mata o boss e faz tudo de novo descendo ainda mais, uma nota pra esse jogo: 7, pq a nota? I played this on Xbox and enjoyed it (with Gamepass). It left GP. So I bought it on Steam. Claims to have controller support (partial). When I enable controller in game I lose all control except for moving cursor between 4 places on screen. Pushing buttons does nothing. The screen says BACK (B), but pushing B does nothing and cursor will not move to that spot. Is controller support really that difficult? I would try k/m but I sit in my recliner when gaming.
While promising, the game unfortunately has a game breaking bug where the screen will freeze within moments of playing at times, you can still interact with the menu and save your game but you have to guess if you're on the right button.
I can't recommend the title, even at the highly discounted price, because of this bug. I reached out to the developers via Email and let them know about it. Will update my review if the bug is fixed.
Es un juego meh, la verdad es un peor terraria en casi todo sentido, tiene algunas mecanicas diferentes como diablo, pero no lo hacen que valga la pena porque algunas mecanicas si son incomodas como el crafteo, inventario y recoleccion de objetos (tienes que recoger manualmente muchos objetos)
Tampoco parece que lo actualicen con regularidad, asi que solo lo recomendaria en descuento por si tienes unas cuantas horas que gastar
there is a game breaking bug that ruins your playthrough. an invasion happened, i killed everything that I could see on the map. Still says "1 invader remaining" but I have looked EVERYWHERE. in the dungeon, on the surface. nothing on the map. NPCs wont spawn because of this and it messing up the gameplay really bad.
Also, did a descent match because I had to restart, only to find out that you cant get all the achievements in this mode because you cant technically craft all pickaxes because you dont have the skill tree to unlock crafting of the higher tier ones.
the game is actually fun. I like the class system and progression. I like how farming is an important part of survival. but that bug needs to be fix probably. I basically had to start a whole new playthrough.

I used to be able to boot in, play the game for a few hours before crashing.
Now? Now I can't even load in, I can't make new characters, as once I go to the loading bar past the opening of Wake up, Wake up, the game crashes. I thought there was a bunch of new stuff to be added as well but all is as dust now, it appears...
I am, sadly, gonna have to change my positive review in light of this.
A combination of the 2D survival/crafting sandbox a la Terraria and ARPGs like Diablo 2, made by the original game director of the latter.
An interesting [i]idea[/i] to be sure, but most of the mechanics feel underwhelming or otherwise half-baked, to the point that there isn't much reason to play this over either of the aforementioned games.

No lo recomiendo en este momento, tiene muchos bugs, se freezea, al parecer esta relacionado con el guardado en la nube, y no le han dado atencion en mas de un año, los usuarios se siguen quejando del mismo bug en post de steam y no permite jugar mas de 10 min actualmente cuando se freezea, no pierdan su tiempo ni dinero aqui. Juego muerto.
优点：1. Diablo Like 跟 生存玩法 结合得非常完美，生存技能可有效缓解生存压力，并不会觉得累，很有趣。2.较好的新手引导，通过做任务完成。3.出色的打击感。4. 丰富的职业。5.善用地形有奇效，觉得自己是哥布林杀手。
缺点：前期地表的敌人太多，难度曲线不平滑，可能死亡循环。
新手建议：开局要尽快挖山洞建基地，而且要挖壕沟，工坊、菜地都要藏在山洞深处。这样不仅前期好过，中期掠夺者来攻打聚落也方便应对，一劳永逸。
战斗系统是原汁原味的Diablo，而且有创新，作为原法师玩家，感觉非常惊喜～

Największy problem z tą grą jest taki, że ludzie po samym wyglądzie mówią, że to Terraria. Nie, to nie jest nawet podobne do Terrarii. To jest ARPG pokroju Diablo, Grim Dawna, Last Epocha czy Path of Exile. Różnica jedynie jest taka, że jest to rzut boczny 2D. Zamysł gierki jest taki, że kopiemy się nieskończoność w dół. Dokładnie tak, o ile świat gierki lewo/prawo jest bardzo mały, tak w dół możemy kopać się w nieskończoność. Gierka generuje proceduralnie coraz głębsze poziomy, a moby skalują się wraz z głębokością. To jest właśnie jeden z głównych mechanizmów tej gry, awans to nie tylko lvl up, zdobycie gearu, ale przede wszystkim schodzenie niżej to swego rodzaju "awans".
Mamy tutaj również obecne mechaniki przetrwania takie jak głód, pragnienie, zatrucia, choroby, zmęczenie, światło etc. Fajnie, że jest to opcjonalne, czy chcemy mieć to włączone czy nie.

UI / UX is a travesty. I can easily forgive the standard-looking UI design, but why in the world would you implement a scrolling crafting menu as opposed to a grid?
Every time I have to craft [i]anything,[/i] especially after you unlock more recipes, I need to scroll through the ever-growing list of items until I find the one I want to craft.
Killed the first boss without crafting an upgraded weapon like the tutorial told me to, because my class' Level 1 ability was enough to murder him without any struggle.
You can tell some love was put into the game, but unfortunately the abhorrent design choices leak into many corners of the game.
Honestly, if this was Early Access and updates were being pushed / planned, I would probably recommend it as it feels like it has a lot of potential. But in its current state, that's all it is; a glance into what could have been, rather than an enjoyable experience.

Une sorte de minecraft 2d avec une itemisation à la Diablo. On construit sa petite base, on trouve du stuff en s'enfonçant de plus en plus profondément sous terre. L'impression que tout n'est pas vraiment terminé me laisse un peu sur ma faim. Mais le jeu a un super potentiel et on s'amuse bien pour quelques heures.
As you probably know by now it's Terraria with a bit of Diablo flavor. I'm enjoying my first play through quite a bit. So far I wouldn't say it has loot-chase but more of a feature chase, what am I going to unlock or experience next kind of thing; though I'm sure there's cool loot to be found. I don't last long on single player games but so far it's got me hooked. I picked this game up on sale for $8. Multiplayer would be awesome but doesn't seem likely at this point.

it looks like game made by someone stuck in 1990. awfull UX and systems made just to be annoying. you cannot ctrl click items to vault. you dont have chest to build. its too easy to destroy your own base with explosive wands. mobs instead of invading you will just get lost somwhere under your base so you have to hunt them. inventory is constantly full with 95% of garbage items. unidentified items. i dont know why they still exists in games. even options doesnt work. if you want to change sound volume you have to hold and move slider instead of clicking it or moving it with arrows. all in all it looks like a game made by someone who played terraria but didnt get why its so good
Finally, a game that answers the question, "What if Diablo and Terraria had a baby that disappointed both of its parents."
This game is a mess. It was a good novelty for 8 bucks on sale, but don't expect to put hundreds of hours into this game.

Unfortunately abandoned before fulfilling its potential, with a slapdash 1.0 release on a game that feels like it's still in alpha. Would steer clear.
Short review: a fun 2d sandbox similar to Terraria but with its own twist.
Pros:
- Arpg or mmo like loot system where weapons have random stats and tiers, making it fun to find new items and weapons
- Different classes with their own build which can be further upgraded and even augmented with skills/items you find in the world
- Cheap game
- Decent playtime even more if you try nightmare mode or you reset and farm your world/bosses
- Good teleport system
Cons:
- Monsters feel the same mehanicly just different skins/look making it boring to farm them, bosses are a bit better but dont have many skills
- Not many items/weapon to craft
- Some items/achievement are locked behind survival mode so i failed to 100% the game as i need to do it again in survival mode
Fun game for its price, can recommend if you like similar games like Terraria or roguelikes with a lot of random loot.

Je suis très embarrassé de devoir faire une évaluation négative de ce jeu, et ce d'autant plus que le problème vient probablement de moi : je n'ai tout simplement pas compris comment jouer ?
J'ai pourtant joué à Terraria et même à Dwarf Fortress, on ne peut pas dire que je sois complètement idiot en matière de jeux de gestion/survie mais là, je n'ai rien pu faire...
J'ai relancé trois fois la partie et à chaque fois j'obtiens le même résultat : mon personnage se balade sur la carte et récolte des ressources, la nuit arrive sans que j'aie pu créer quoi que ce soit (pas même une arme !) et je me fais massacrer par des monstres. Point final.
Et je ne trouve RIEN pour m'expliquer ce qu'il faut faire, même les guides de la communauté ne parlent que de stratégies générales, ce qui implique qu'on a déjà passé les premières étapes du jeu.
Voilà pourquoi je dis que le problème vient sans doute de moi vu que tout le monde a l'air de considérer que c'est très clair.
Reste quand même qu'il manque des explications de base - ou a minima un manuel intégré - pour qu'on comprenne ce que l'on peut faire et comment. Et, rien que ça, ça implique forcément que je ne serai pas le seul à être laissé sur le carreau alors je préfère prévenir les acheteurs potentiels.

Complicado. La mezcla de sandbox survival con ARPG es interesante y llega a ser bastante divertido, pero personalmente siento que la combinación interrumpe mucho cada apartado.
El enfoque en la supervivencia esta mas en tener granjas por el hambre y estamina, y en hacer casas prediseñadas para NPCs para interactuar, mientras la parte ARPG es básicamente ir bajando capa por capa mientras se mata bichos subiendo de nivel, encontrando loot, etc etc. lo típico.
Es MUY adictivo esto, hay varias clases con sus habilidades propias, muchos tipos de equipamiento, enemigos, en este sentido es muy bueno, el problema es que no hay mucho en términos de movilidad y la perspectiva 2D provoca mucho solapamiento entre, bueno, todo, hace que se vuelva muy repetitivo rápido, y sumando a que todo se maneja a cuadraditos como otros sandbox, la IA se rompe fácil o se vuelve muy caótico el lidiar con hordas enteras en un espacio pequeño.
Lo otro que no me gusta es que, a pesar de tener construcción, es bastante limitada sin mucha personalización que digamos (mas allá de apilar o poner una al lado de otras los edificios prediseñados) y las misiones que se te dan son solo paso a paso para llegar al jefe final o hacer uno de cada tipo de objetos, encima necesario de hacer por las recetas y esquemas que te dan, no es muy satisfactorio. Por último, los bosses son... meh, tanto en diseño como en patrones de ataque.
Está bien, no es ni lejos "lo mejor de dos mundos" ya que ambos géneros que mezcla no se implementan de forma fantástica ni muy destacable en ciertos puntos, pero es muy entretenido para lo que es, con varios modos de juego para dejarlo a gusto (se puede bajar el grado de supervivencia necesaria pero nunca eliminarla por completo) y con buena rejugabilidad si termina enganchando.
Please play this game if you hesitate. Forget about what it is compared to or looks like. It has its own thing going on. Progression is super fun and combat is well balanced without being too much complicated or repetitive. Overall an absolute gem. The building part is pretty basic and serves the game well.
You have to mix runes / gems and class items wisely when at floor 4 and below otherwise you wont survive long. I usually get bored in loot/arpg but this one changes of beat often between exploration, building, upgrading base etc... Very glad I didnt stop myself from buying it based on reviews and trailer. Have fun !

I was hesitant to purchase as I wasn't sure it was what I would like, but watched some folks on YouTube and also remembered I like Diablo and Terraria, so I bought it. I guess it must be fun as I'm still playing my first character. Some of the bosses can be tough unless you cheese them, but others are easier. Dang skeletons with machine guns are the worst. lol
Whoever had the idea to make a game where you need to spend most of your time under the earth, yet not provide the player with any sort of light needs to be fired. Terrible.
Very clunky item handling; after you craft an item it is on your cursor but you can't use or place it, you have to either put it on your bar or open your bags and put it somewhere. You can't place wood beams above door, so you can't have exits on both sides of your house, except perhaps with a convoluted design. Gameplay seems pretty boring so far, and you have to blindly fall into dark areas and take and unknown amount of fall damage before you can place a torch and see what is there. It feels a lot like Terraria, which I never enjoyed.

Enjoyable at first but becomes and repetitive mid to late game. Has no weapon variety at all. Boss fights are very easy and almost have no tactics required.

ハクスラとはこういうものだという要素を最低限押さえている非常にバランスの良いゲーム。ゲーム内で情報は無く、思い込みで気づかないバランスを壊す要素が2つあるが、それを探すのも面白いかも。食事要素はOFFで良さ気。メインコンテンツが面白くバランスが取れていて、UIが何か分かりやすく操作性がユーザの想定に沿うゲームは最低限2000円くらいの値段がしていても良いと思う。
since this went 1.0 without anymore remaining meaningful changes or updates I won't be recommending this game. Had a lot of potential, evidently it was abandoned before that full potential could be achieved. Get on a sale if you like older school Diablo, beyond that though I can't say I will be supporting this dev moving forward. Highly disappointing.
Its like Diablo, meets Terraria...I like it.
Controller support is awful
Um meio termo entre terraria e diablo que acaba sendo monótono e cansativo. O modo descent era para ser a alternativa para quem só quer o aspecto ARPG mas ainda precisa mineirar e construir coisas.
Common effects in game such as weather effects, bloom, or particles result in tremendous dips in framerate. The game is poorly optimized and is playable only if many visual settings are turned off or turned down to their minimum settings.
This is not a hardware issue, as I am able to play much more graphically advanced games without issue.
The best way I can describe this game is 2D version of Diablo 1 with destructible environments where you build the town yourself. It may look and feel at first like Terraria, but this is definitely an action RPG first. Although I wish it had some more budget and polish behind it, it's a fun game to play nonetheless, and it has much more of a Diablo feel in its mechanics than latest Diablo games.

The music and sound effects are pretty cool. The character classes while mining is also fun.
This is not a bad game. But it just feels a bit unfinished - an interesting idea executed without polish. The menus are clunky. And the pace of the game is so slow (not the rate at which things happen, but your actual movement and actions).
I am confident that there are people who will like it as it is, but it wasn't for me.
The Creators resume says that this game is worth a try. Playing the game blind proves it. Great game, replay options out the ears. If you enjoy Diablo games, this is a must have.

but... you're only letting me make one farm... okay whatever, I'll just go kill the 2nd boss now, you said it's this way aaaand, that's some later boss and you aren't giving me quest credit and now I have no idea where to go or what to do next other than I'm just starving.
... tl;dr- it's a terraria wanna-be, but with nothing but broken mechanics and is a disaster.

Finished the initial game. Now about to embark to "Badlands". Pretty solid game. The other modes were a bit too difficult for me. Creative mode is the way to go for me. Brevik knows how to entice you with loot, stats, and upgrades. Here's to hoping he makes another game!
Can't believe the install of this game is just 60MB. You could play this for hours if you have a lot of time. The different modes, different classes, different builds. As good as diablo 2.

Its alright but most definitely not worth the 20$ price tag
Two times i have given it a change. And now that the maker has left the game to its grave its not ready to be a full experience. You do get a nice start and will have fun but when the game starts getting to the point of you = one shot and the enemy takes 1-2 mins to kill it really starts to grind you.
Be Warned: This isn't Terraria. If you can acknowledge that, this is still a pretty fun little mashup between that game and Diablo.
Very fun game, it's like Terraria meets Diablo 2. It's a 2D scroller RPG with the option of hardcore and survival. I can't get enough of this game! It Lurks Below has me hooked. I have over 40+ hours into it and I've been enjoying all of it so far!
Zaskakująco przyjemna gra. Takie kopanie połączone z H'n'S i losowymi statami itemków, legendarnymi itemami i innymi takimi :)
Wiele osób wspomina o terari - warto zaznaczyć, że tytuł z nią może się kojarzyć ale jest mniej rozbudowany w aspekcie budowania itp.
Tutaj stawiamy swój domek (a w nim kilka rzeczy raptem a i domku nie trzeba), do tego kilka budynków (odblokowujemy w ramach postępu w grze i rozwoju postaci) i tyle.
Warto wymienić ciekawy pomysł. W grze mamy 2 paski doświadczenia. Jeden to survival - za craft, kopanie i inne takie a drugi to exp za walkę.
Z minusów - jak trafimy na zamrażającego przeciwnika to często nasz koniec bo atakuje szybciej niż schodzi status. Drugi kolosalny minus - jeżeli użyjemy teleportacji w czasie walki z bosem i zginiemy to po teleportaci spowrotem będziemy ginąć jak tylko lokacja się wczyta. Za każdym razem. Jedyna opcja to dotarcie "na piechotę", tp przed boss room i dopiero wejście.
I really like this game. It has not the fanciest graphics and it lacks some kind of a story and characters, but it has a very motivating loop like the first Diablo game or Torchlight. A lot of great random loot, a huge amount of customisation, enchantment, craftig, base building(or better: town building), classes, skills, you name it. There are a lot to do in this game and again, its very motivating.
Unfortunately the boss battles are not all that great and the surface invasions getting annoying at the late game because enemies are damage sponges and you have to find all invaders, in order to be able to use your town shops again. That was not very fun, to be honest.
But overall a great experience. Especially if you are a fan of Diablo and Diablo-likes :)
Started out really promising with the DEV posting constantly and many many updates frequently. Then radio silence and ABANDONED. I mean buy it at £3 or so as it's fun for a while. But no promised multiplayer kills it stone dead. Like I said it's ABANDONED!!!
The game is good, but a little too short and simple. In my playtime I finished the main game with a necromancer and a bard (warrior), and I don't think other classes will bring much of a difference, one is ranged and the other is melee. The equipment drops don't bring that much variation, but at least they are meaningful, not just a junk fest. Still the game is satisfying, it gives enough content for the price and for a while it's quite addictive.

It Lurks Below effectively triggers the desire to solve problems with a loot system that feels similar to Diablo's loot system. This game effectively keeps my interest piqued from beginning through end-game.
This is the first game I have ever played where quality of life is so bad that I can't actually stomach the game. No smart mining, drop equipped armor and weapons on death, map size can't be adjusted, and if I am not mistaken, you have to log out to change any settings?!

Maybe someday i'll give it another go, but the first 30m of this game was not enjoyable.
It left me wondering, why am I not playing terraria?
If you give it a few hours so you get past the tutorial then it gets much better. Its got these positive reviews for a reason !!
btw : every review says to give it time and get past the beginning .. Its all true. It does get to be fun

I think this is another example of a game that I love to hate.
This game has it's shining moments, and it's clear what they went for here. But OML I hate some of the decisions made for this game, such as the hordes and everything. I can see what people like about this game, and no doubt the devs put their heart and soul into this game. It's clear though this was made by the devs of the original Diablo cause like Diablo, this game hates you too.
If you truly wish to play this game, know that you'll never play it again like I did when I saw the flaws. But maybe one day you'll come back to play it again.
P.S Get this game on Sale cause it's not worth 20.00
Game instantly crashes when i try to move the character in the first screen on Win 11. Tried to play 3 times.
Really nice ideas but the developement has been abandoned.
Je n'ai accroché à rien dans le jeu. Surtout pas au gameplay ni du joueur, ni du crafting. Et même en solde c'est pas top.
Une déception, j'aurai penser voir un jeu plus abouti. Ou c'est juste moi qui est trop formaté par d'autres jeux du même genre plus peaufinés. Je pense que dans le genre pour le prix, il y a mieux. Mais, je ne vais pas me faire rembourser pour la cause. Pour dire qu'il y a pire aussi !

Hardcore and Softcore for Dungeon only or Survival
Diablo nightmare
Books that allow you to enjoy the fight, to respect your build, fight a boss again with more challange.

love me some Greybeard, been following Brevik since his Marvel Heroes participation. Love his ideas and style in this demonic dungeon descent in to a Diablo2 and Terraria offspring of pixel and voxel hellworld. Fun solo play, also reminds me of the style in Starbound. Loads of fun to play.
Ridiculous replayability. Runs great on old hardware. Challenging but fair gameplay. If this is the quality of games that Brevik has in store for us in the future, I am one happy gamer! More of this, please!
Great game, I've had a lot of fun. Leaving this review here for myself as I absolutely hate that I can never remove the corruption from the surface. This ruins it for me, the crops are one thing but having to deal with the commander constantly and I do mean every couple of days is tedious and unfun.
Successful Terraria-like made by the true carrier of Diablo's Soulstone
It's fun and I recommend it, but it certainly does have some rough spots as other reviews have pointed out. There's not much I can really say that hasn't already been said in other reviews, It Lurks Below is a blend of Diablo dungeon looter and sandbox survival, so if that sounds like something you'd enjoy then pick it up.
