Game Awards kinda killed this game with over hype, it's a perfectly fine game that had some potential but the way it was announced at the Game awards man. "from the creators of Titanfall 2 and Apex legends comes a new IP in a genre that is over saturated, over done and stale." You are in the same ring as many pre-established games with die hard communitys and trying to pull them away from those titles by simply adding mechanics from all of them would never have worked.

It's a shame too the 5v5 made the game much more enjoyable, and it would have been cool to see how this game would have been in 6+ months but it was dragged behind a shed and shot before any real carving of the niche could occour.

Wouldn't call this concord 2, there was no agenda or diversity quotas. Just bad marketing, poor reveal at the Game Awards resulting in over hype and Dev's that chose to close it down rather then push through the initial back lash and carve out a community.

Despite what you may hear about this game, it's actually really fun. It's fast paced. It almost reminds me of the early days in Apex for some reason. I recommend this game to my friends, and we've all played together. We enjoy this game.

I feel like I’ve Geoff didn’t make such a big deal about this game and it casually dropped it would’ve had better results. Gunplay wasn’t terrible, maps just felt too big and empty especially with the main game mode only being 3v3, a lot of the time felt dead and not useful. Felt like a normal shooter that could’ve had the time to grow, evolve, and change into something different and playable but with how it was blown out of proportion at the Game Awards this game almost sealed it down death before it started. Was terrible just wasn’t super fun either.

Щас бы жаловаться на маленькую ноунейм студию, что она не ААА проект. Ну и что, что там есть выходцы из известных компаний? Сами разрабы не создавали такой шумихи, как все остальные создали вокруг неё и не претендовали на топ 1 игру мира. Так что ваши жалобы звучат как бред сумасшедшего, которому показываешь что за окном, а он орёт о пятне на стекле.

По игре.
Ну вполне себе имела место на существоание. Да, может объединение режимов где-то мешало. Но для студии, которая только появилась (насколько я знаю) - это хороший опыт. К тому же всё бы решилось патчами, правками и мы бы могли увидеть действительно что-то интересное. Мы с друзьями периодически залипали в неё по вечерам. К удивлению мы ни одного бага за всё время не обнаружили. Оптимизация у нас тоже не страдала. Сервера... Ну одним словом "Россия". Сами понимаете.
Так что можно ещё сказать? В целом игра годная и могла расти дальше. Но видимо сейчас люди слишком застряли в привычном им мире игр, а на другое... вы поняли.

The developers thought being at the Game Awards was what killed them.
Your game being at the Game Awards didn't kill you. You being the LAST announcement is what did it. You could have just be a normal reveal, you would have done so much better, even if it wasn't a great reception, it would have been better than the one you got.
Geoff Keighley, take this as a lesson: If this is seriously what you think gamers want, and you had this much faith and passion in this game, you need to do some introspection, and see that there was a reason this didn't take off, not just because "gamers are the problem and we're wrong and you're right".
Highguard devs, Geoff didn't do you any favors, but you guys also didn't make something good enough to stand out. All of the world could see that within the first minute of your trailer. Sorry.

I'd write a review on Highguard's negatives but every other review has that covered.

This game was like Apex meets Siege in a scifi / fantasy world remicient of Arcane. While the world felt uninspired, I still enjoyed what the developers were going for.
Gunplay was OK but the looting / progression system was great and I would like to see other games adopt
Rest in peace. Was actually a fun game if you didn't go into it wanting to hate it because everyone already said they hate it and it'll be dead on arrival. Saw all the hate and said to myself "guess ill see what all the fuss is about and decide for myself instead of listening to the hate mob onlin something similar.
I never cared about Highguard closing the TGA, and honestly, I doubt I ever will. Geoff’s announcement of the game (that he said they were an indie) was, frankly, kinda dumb, but in the grand scheme of things, that’s a minor footnote.

It’s also patently unfair to say people didn’t give the game a chance. They did. It just fell off the map quickly, like countless other live-service titles before it. Still, Highguard is much more of a success story than Concord. And I do respect them for dropping one final content drop before shutting down forever (compared to a more stoic Sony that refused to do anything but to get rid of the game asap).

If I must be clear about the game’s actual merits, plenty of niche multiplayer titles have carved out long-term existences over the years (even if some of them had strong peaks during free weekends etc.): Loadout, Block'N'Load, Natural Selection 2, Guns of Icarus, Defiance. None of those games ever truly reached their full potential or recaptured their initial peaks. In the 2010s, 10k concurrent players was a big deal, and 30-40k was absolutely massive. By that metric, Highguard hit near 100k. Are we ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kidding? It's still massive for a game that people thought it was going to get stoned to death.

It appears that, nowadays, if you can't sustain your launch-day peak indefinitely, you must be sunset. Maybe, from a cold business perspective, that's the right call (I can't be assed to tell if it is). But there's no value in pretending Highguard wasn't capable of more. It was. The core gameplay was competent. It obviously played like a slightly more stripped-back version of Apex, meaning the gunplay and movement were naturally decent right out of the gate. The resource gathering and management system was fine for what it was; maybe not thrilling for quick-play sessions, but I could easily imagine it shining in tense, strategic ranked-mode raids. I am speaking strictly of 3v3 raids though, I was unable to find sessions for 5v5 but I think 3v3 seemed to be a sweetspot anyway.

I genuinely miss games like Natural Selection and Guns of Icarus, titles where gathering resources and maintaining a base felt integral to the experience. That's why it’s so damning to see a game with a similar foundational promise, and the player-count proof of concept, fail to secure a future. It also doesn't help (although it's not a direct comparison) that the Deadlock is and most likely will be around.

But I don't know... the mount combat was actually exciting and seamless, isn't it? The PvP, whether you're on foot or on a mount, was actually quite tight. The raid mode could have used more PvE elements rather than simply going to PoIs to harvest materials, but it's too late to discuss that now. Perhaps in an alternate universe, Highguard is a competitor to Halo's BTB, who knows. I think it's fair to say that PvP on a relatively large map is draining (and uninteresting) to most people when it's not a grand battle.

Regardless of the reasons, the verdict is clear: Highguard would have been far better off releasing in the 2010s. But we don't live in that decade anymore. We live in this one, where you can shut your doors and lay off personnel in just about a month. It's pathetic to go out like this, and the negativity is not aimed at the game itself, but at every little aspect behind its actual making.

Even without considering how Tencent benchmarked the game, the studio behind it should know better — huge drops in player base are the new norm. I'll never understand what they expected from shadow-dropping a new IP. You don’t really get away with axing games too soon unless you're 2K, releasing the same slop every year (and even they postpone server closures by a few months, and giving you well over two years of content).

How could someone not have any B or even C plans to revitalize the game and steadily grow it in a scenario where it takes off big and then falls back hard? This isn’t the first time this has happened, and most certainly won't be the last.

Sad that it’s gone but i hope the devs learn from this and try again. I honestly believe they’re all very talented and they are responsible for some of the fps loved by many gamers. The industry is in a weird place and most people want co-op or single payer games. I enjoyed Highguard and only played because of the team behind it. Nowadays every time is see PvP I’m not interested. Sometimes it’s just hard to deal with sweats and cheaters and you just want to relax and play some games. Only game i let stress me like that is Apex( I’ve loss 2 laptops and a monitor after raging while playing). But anyways y’all can use Highguard’s lore and create a great solo / co-op game.

i wept for hours, days, weeks on end just from finishing the tutorial. the first, second and third crashes on the menu were a service by wildlight, giving me a moment to process what i had just experienced. i wish i had the words to explain just how much this game has changed my life, but truly nothing could ever compare. i've been writing since the day i can remember, and yet i still don't think i could ever vocalise the vivacious ecstasy that every moment of gameplay inspired within the depths of my soul. wildlight entertainment, you've done it again. i'm thrilled to imagine the shining praise this will receive at the game awards.

RIP Highdentity Crisis: Truly a jack of all trades master of none situation

We all gave it a shot, we all had some fun, the devs did take feedback well (5v5 was really good) but it didn't repair the impressions the core design and performance from launch left for many. Didn't stop the big money coming to pull out.

This wasn't concord 2, more like Battleborn or Lawbringers if anyone remembers those. Decent enough but nothing to keep you in the miles deep saturated fps genre.

"Played Highguard for its full 1.5-month lifecycle, which feels less like early access and more like a limited-time event.

To be fair, the base attack/defend concept was solid. There were moments where everything clicked — coordinating pushes, holding angles, actually feeling like strategy mattered. Those moments were just… spaced out by a lot of “yeah, this is alright I guess.”

Gunplay was decent, maps did the job, and the overall experience was perfectly… serviceable. It never really dipped into being bad, but it also seemed very committed to never accidentally becoming amazing.

Right when it felt like the game might start finding its footing, it instead found the off switch. Can’t say I’ve played many FPS games where “end of service” is part of the core experience.

Overall:
👍 Solid idea with glimpses of fun
👍 Easy to pick up and play
👎 Didn’t quite reach its potential
👎 Lifetime shorter than my attention span

Would I recommend it?
If it were still around, sure — it’s a perfectly okay way to spend some time. Just don’t get too attached… the game certainly didn’t."

Potential...squandered. Outside of giving up on the game 1.5 months in, the game lacked basic features like...text chat. Insanity. Everything was also just...too long. Set up phase, gathering phase, respawn time, maps even. All just far too long, took forever to get to the actual fun gameplay, the fighting and if you get randomly sniped quickly, oh well, now you wait 22 seconds to respawn at your base, all the way across from where the other players are. Could've used some tweaking to stop itself from being a Paladins clone but, again, they gave up with little reason to care.

I enjoyed the tutorial, except it did not complete due to a bug.
Perhaps should have used the time to make a spiritual Titanfall sequel instead.

My friend got me into this game and at first I made fun of it, however over a week or so I began to love and enjoy it. I found my favorite guns and operators, got confident with my abilities and movement and started having more fun in a new game than I've had in awhile (even more fun than Arc raiders). I got two of my coworkers to install it and that had a blast, that is of course until the devs decided to give up and rather than give updates based off the feedback they decided to shut it down. They were just as furious as I was and now this game is sadly history. Would've been great if they gave it longer than a month to gain traction,

I must admit, though my time was brief I had a fun time. The game felt good to play and had great looking graphics, though many of the assets and gameplay elements did feel like they were just parts of other games stitched together. Like it wanted to be all the popular live service game types that have worked but ended up as a pretty looking Frankenstein. A Jack of all trades and thus a King of none.

Despite this, I could tell there was truly a lot of effort put into this game and with how great it felt to play were done more than well. Though the studio has since been disbanded I hope that these developers get another shot wherever they go next and can use some of what they did and what they learned making this to make something truly stunning free of the Live Service curse or with the right momentum to actually stick around. Were it still playable and never getting another content update I honestly would come back on occasion, or at least until I got the Platinum Trophy or what have you. They were pretty clear and direct with how to get them, I just didn't have the time to get some of the more complex ones.

Hope they do better next time, and thank you for the fun time with friends for a couple nights. Even if they weren't having as much fun as I was...

Highguard was not Concord. No matter how similar the circumstances, the short availability, the lackluster player base, the overwhelming hate. Highguard was a free first person shooter that attempted something different and for that I commend it. I spent a fair bit of time with Highguard as I completed the 100% and I can say pretty fairly, it was an alright game.

At first it was a breath of fresh air even with all its flaws and I enjoyed it, however later on even after all the balance patches the flaws became evident. The balance was not great, certain characters were way better than others, to name an example the ice guy was an insta win if you ulted on any planted bomb as he was impossible to kill, the wolf guy instantly replaced the recon girl as he could perma detect people and his wolf seek could go through anything including the barriers in bases.

Time to kill became unbearable the longer the game went on with legendary shields sometimes taking multiple magazines and long range overtime fights almost always ended up ending in time. This became especially obvious during raid fights, where it felt like defenders sometimes didnt even get to respawn due to long repawn timers and dying too late. The reviver amulet was way too good and broke advantage instantly, especially if they had the newest legend whom had a shield when reviving and put a shield on enemy souls preventing destruction. This was odd because it felt like if anything the newer characters did more harm than good in terms of balance.

The accessibility and lack of even basic features is something that cannot be ignored. The performance was terrible, from launch to shutdown, my system is fairly good and I struggled to even get 90-100 fps on medium settings or low and that made performance drops during fights noticeable. Motion blur was forced and overall the settings page was lagging major quality of life and necessary options. There were no scoreboards in game and you could not type your sens you had to use a slider.

Overall, I actually think Highguard had a decent premise, the problem was its execution. Highguard was so big it had to fail, the massive budget set it up for failure from the jump, it was never going to make anything close to that much plus enough to keep it alive. In addition to its massive budget of over 200M the game felt underdeveloped for that amount, the lack of basic features I mention before in addition to the poor optimization is something that is unforgiveable for that scale. In addition the criticism that Highguard is just a rip off of a bunch of other games is untrue, it took inspiration for sure but it tackled them in its own way. I actually think that its combination of these mechanics was interesting just poorly executed.

Im sad that its gone but I will not miss it, RIP Highguard.

Highguard had a [i]lot[/i] of potential to be a mainstay FPS. It was like Apex Arenas on crack. Unfortunately, egregious and frankly unacceptable performance killed any chance of it capturing the F2P audience it was hoping for.

John Highguard's haircut certainly didn't help its case either.

By no means a bad or poorly made game.

I actually think if it was not for the Game Awards hype backfiring this game could have seen modest success with the right audience. I highly doubt this is the first time we'll see the concept of a "Raid Shooter"- It is a sensible fusion of MOBA and tactical FPS games that could appeal to many given the right circumstance, presentation, and popular gaming climate.

Until those things culminate, Highguard could have performed modestly well as a niche game with potential to grow a fanbase.

All in all, worth a try. It is not for me in the end.

There's not much to say about Highguard. Yes, it wasn't as bad as some people said, but I mean, it was literal garbage still, so... it's like saying "You're game it's not 1/10, it's 2/10", still a joke of a game.
Good gameplay, everything else was pure trash, and a 3vs3 pvp is just laughable.

And by the way... why be inspired by Concord's character design? That's just being mentally unstable, and like lots of us, they should have had help before starting the game's development.
