Her Story is a case where I would give it a "mixed feelings" rating, but in the interest of good faith I will recommend it with a major caveat. This game is for highly patient individuals who like to take notes while they play, so expect some pen and paper. It's an ambitious, at times dreadfully slow title with virtually no excitement, so be sure you know what you're getting into.

This is not a classic game with a clear goal. You are supposed to be searching a database of very short videos (3 seconds to 20-30 seconds typically, with some outliers like a 1 minute video) and just reach satisfaction ias you put together the story. Its not really a game, just a documantary that forces you to watch it as if it was a series of unordered tiktok videos.

I did not spend a lot of time on it, but I did not enjoy the concept. You are not really a detective, you can't ask questions. You're just an observer

我是在《鲁特里》里看到这个游戏的。其作者在彩蛋中说受到了 Obra Dinn 和 Her Story 的启发，我就尝试一下在库里吃灰的这个游戏，果然有点意思。值得一试。

[spoiler]Her Story is a modern day fairy tale turned true crime podcaster's wet dream. Twin sisters, separated at birth, live a shared life of secrets and connection, until it all falls apart. The narrative I've seen described as complex, but it felt largely simple, if a bit silly, when it came down to it. A stolen baby, two girls sharing one life, jealousy and separation, reunion, an affair, a pregnancy, a murder.

Is it true? Maybe. Probably not exactly as it was said, but there are elements that are easy enough to verify- a tattoo, an alibi- that make me dubious of theories of DiD or the second self being a fabrication to escape culpability.

I think this is, in fact, trying to stick to the fairy tale conceit it references enough to be almost hammering you over the head with it. If I were to describe the plot in flowery language, it would sound very similar to an old and dark fable, one teaching the value of sharing and following rules by a representation of the tragedy that comes from breaking them. To that end, it’s true- and it’s magical. To try and pin this down to reality, despite the grounded nature of the crime drama presentation and mothballed tech, to attempt to turn this into purely a mystery to be solved, is to lose what this game is actually attempting to do.

A silver mirror. A girl in the attic. A stolen baby. Rapunzel and Arabian Nights and the Princess and the Pauper. It’s a story about stories, as trite as that may sound. What impressed me the most about that fact is that it is a story that challenges the person to analyze by necessity, to engage with it in a way you would not with a film. This is done, of course, through its core investigation mechanic and structure of being broken up into little clips, but also through the genre it masquerades as. In crime stories, something happened. In crime investigation games, your job is to figure out what that thing is. In many of those games, there is a truth you can reach or fall short of. So you pay attention. You scrutinize inconsistencies. You notice patterns. You perform narrative analysis as you play the game, you play it to experience the story, you can’t start after, it’s a constructive process within the experience itself. The search for truth runs you directly into exploring the magic.

That’s a clever trick! I doubt it bats a thousand. That same pursuit can create a tunnel vision, a frustration with inconsistency, a feeling of false promise that was left unfulfilled, a refusal to bend with the genre and having the experience break as a result.

I played this after Immortality, and I don't know if that helped or hurt it. Immortality is larger, a more ambitious project with a more supernatural narrative, a very explicit one at that. I think one benefit of playing Immortality first was that the magical realism of Her Story was an expected aspect to me on a subconscious level, so I didn’t fight it, even if that magic is far more metaphorical here than in Immortality. Immortality’s investigation system had its advantages and disadvantages as well- while momentum could be built through brute force if nothing else was working there in a way it’s harder to here, the directed control, the action and result, the sense of AGENCY in the process is far superior in Her Story. Still, I stalled out without completing the footage gallery of either game.

For Her Story, I stopped after finding around 80% of clips, but felt I had the full story, or close enough to it that the rest was just details, by 50%. There was more to learn after that point, sure, but I never had any moments of revelation past that time, which disappointed me. Just shy of a hundred minutes and I’d cracked it, with half the road left to run. Details of the affair added a bit more context, but I quickly felt I had run out of mysteries I wanted answers to (outside of the deaths of the parents), or details I felt compelled to fill in. It’s a fairy tale after all, every telling is a bit different, taking different parts to compile a similar whole.

There is, content wise, a disappointingly misogynistic undertone for me. In Immortality, the commodification of women’s sexuality felt like it was doing something, or at least trying to, most of the time, through its narrative about the predatory nature of the film industry. Here, the feeling is just… strange. Eve didn’t need to “take Hannah’s virginity” with a hairbrush, Hannah could’ve done that herself. Hannah and Simon getting married because she got pregnant at 17 is one thing, having Eve go ♥♥♥♥ random adult men in alleys to try and get pregnant to match until she got an STI is another. It feels gross, and like its intention is to be as such. This in all, has an atonal effect on the rest of the story- revolting exceptions to the modern fairy tale structure, things that would be out of place even in the Grimm inspirations they draw from, as they do not feel they serve a purpose.

Her Story is a pretty tight, focused, and well executed experience. It’s one I do have respect for both the craft and cultural impact of. It did not knock my socks off, but I was overall impressed, and it got me to think about themes. That’s a challenge many games fail to meet. [/spoiler]

That was a wild ride. You're a detective for a day, trying to search terms on a database to access videos about two women who are being questioned about a murder.... the murder of one of the women's husband. That's the premise, but the actual story is much, much deeper. It's a little hard to understand, but once you start getting it, you'll be addicted. These women are interconnected in ways 'normal' people will never understand. ;)

[h3]Better Than Its (Disappointing) Successors[/h3]

For context, I played [i]Telling Lies (2019)[/i] and [i]Immortality (2022)[/i] both I despise for their tedium and disappointing story. Being the origin of both games, this is their best version of this style due to its brevity and speed although suffers from the same issues. This game does deserve merit for its creativity and non-linear story telling assuming the player does not complete it (yet again) and okay with hanging or unanswered questions. I would love to bump this game up a tier but the overarching story and journey did not make up for it.

Mechanically, this game is using a search engine for a video archive to uncover the characters and stories behind a past crime where why is more fun over how. I love how the player can end the game without any judgment or exam and simply asked whether they understood the characters. Specifically, the player character is connected to this crime and the answer feels poignant. Unlike its successors, searching and watching videos is fast and is not bogged down by its interface considering this is imitating older systems. The genius of its design comes from how players are subtly guided by each video and encourages understanding even if players find the last videos by chance or guesses. Also, finding small details feel much better and rewarding without being exhausting or repetitive. Fundamentally, it is how the videos are to the point and short (at most 2 minutes) that makes this the best in its series without the other gimmicks.

While the interface is the smoothest in its series, I find it insincere with its screen glare (which can be thankfully disabled) and constant reminder of a player character. The fact that queried videos are limited to 5 (and at most 15 after beating the game) is really insane and immersion breaking even if the game is balanced around it. Narratively, the story does not justify it well where data recovery/corruption would be a common trope so a lot of grievances has not been addressed. Suppressing my other issues with the interface, the one thing I want is the ability to add the search query as video tags so I can cross reference them when they come up again to avoid rewatching videos.

Both its mechanics and interface are simple but one I can appreciate how it feels worse on its successors. The one thing though it still shares with them are filler videos that just have a character usually say one sentence or phrase for the purpose of filling the search video limit. While I said the videos were short, these ruin discovery and feel like very artificial. I do get certain videos that serve as red herring to make interpretations uncertain or prevent guessing, but surely those filler can be made more interesting. For example, only having the witness testimony recorded but not the question or comment that triggered can provide an added layer or nuance rather than feeling unnatural. The reason I did not complete these games is because searching every video feels unrewarding or random with those. Take for example with achievements, first time players get them without having clear intent or a reward. I do not know about the search balance and design but I wish I can say it was worth it.

Now the story is open to interpretation and ambiguity that I like. What I don't like is how it does not make sense in a many ways. One of the initial video about having no physical evidence is so stupid from a legal perspective that I had to suspend my disbelief. So much to scrutinize but I care more about the messages and themes. While it hints of mirrors, palindromes and almost mystical connections, I just feel this game is mean to women (unintentionally.) Starting all the way from a lonely widow midwife, a neglected sibling, sexual promiscuity, infidelity and unwanted pregnancies, I struggle to find any meaningful characterization for the main witness to sympathize or understand. Not forgetting how the player character is involved, it feels like trauma is part of the woman's experience. Overall the story feels it was built on twists rather than having it carefully crafted so I am not going to bother over-analyzing it. The clincher for me is when the person asking that nice question in the end has the initials S.B. that could be the director (Sam Barlow) just rubbed me the wrong way.

I can still recommend this game for a quaint mystery and short experience just that I felt disappointed hearing this game was so good for so long.

I like a good indie game and something not mainstream. I liked the idea of the game so I got it. Unforunately it feels incomplete. There is no solid story follow through. I got through to the end and did not even know what happened exactly. I'm still left guessing and putting pieces together in my head as to what happened. Potential was there but execution was not developed enough. Not recommended.

推理モノを調べて辿り着いたため、プレイしてみました。
自分としては好きなタイプの作品だなと思っています。
このゲームはワンプレイが大事で、周回要素はありません。

最初は「何をしたらいいんだろう？」と首をかしげます。
ぽちぽちとアイコンをクリックしながら、画面の向こうの彼女を見つめていました。
次第に画面の向こうから伝わってくる内容に違和感を覚え…75%実績までは自力でやりぬきました。
ただどうしても煮詰まったため、残りは攻略を片手にやりました。

動画の内容や気になるワードを控えながら、検索して引っかかった動画を見ての繰り返し。
取り扱っている事件の内容が大人向けです。
複数人でやっても面白いかもしれません。

ただ[spoiler]はっきりと真相がえがかれない[/spoiler]ゲームが苦手な人は辞めた方がいいかも。
ある程度[spoiler]真相を考えたり、何があったか想像できる人[/spoiler]にお勧めです。

10年前の作品ではありますが、名作と言われるだけあるなと感じています。
実写ムービーを使うゲームは得意ではないのですが、このゲームは違和感なく遊べました。
（実写ムービー系のゲーム作品は、映像作品が最適では？と考えてしまうためです）

That first realization when you are on the right track feels absolutely fantastic.

That being said: you will need some dedication to solve the mystery, also, possibly, a piece of paper, a cup of hot black coffee and a cool detective hat.

A fascinating experience – quite different from what I had expected after having heard about this game throughout the years, but that's very positive: It means that I was able to not get spoiled in any meaningful way, not even about broad strokes of the story at the heart of this mystery.

The nature of this game makes it require your [i]full[/i] attention, which is not all that common anymore in the era of collectathon open-world games and the like (which I'd say was already pretty common at the time this game released). I enjoyed engaging with it this way, and felt rewarded handsomely by uncovering a story in a way that felt similar to reading an excellent whodunit novel. You begin theorizing, suspecting possible interpretations, find yourself sometimes gasping with "no way, could it be?!" light-bulb moments.

The gameplay and user interface are daringly simple. Initially I thought that surely at some point I'd reach a threshold of progression where something would change, I couldn't even fathom how it'd be possible for the game to meaningfully conclude within the confines it operates in. But it does, and it works.

My only minor complaint is that the option to completely wipe your savegame is a bit too easy to accidentally trigger when trying to figure out potential ways to progress by interacting with anything the interface has to offer. I was at around 95% completion when this happened, so I ended up spending a lot of extra time getting back to where I already was before I could 100% it. Not all of that felt like a waste of time because rewatching things with all the knowledge I had acquired at that point sometimes was pretty interesting – but I'd still rather not have had that happen.

I had this game sit in my library for almost five years before finally deciding to give it ago. Hearing Sam Barlow talk about his process in the recent Panic podcast episode on [url=https://podcast.panic.com/episodes/s02e02/]Full Motion Visionaries[/url] gave me the push I needed, and I'm already excited to play IMMORTALITY next.

Muy buen juego. Interesante. Y aunque en un principio se puede deducir más o menos lo que va pasando. tiene algunos giros interesantes. En unas 3 horas o 3 horas y media, si no sabés mucho y querés hacer el 100% de la base de datos, lo podés hacer.

Há algo profundamente perturbador — no melhor sentido — na experiência de sentar diante de uma interface fria, quase burocrática, e perceber que o que se tem diante de si não é exatamente um jogo, mas um arquivo. Um banco de dados. Um conjunto de vídeos policiais fragmentados, organizados não por linearidade dramática, mas por palavras digitadas num campo de busca. Nada de setas luminosas indicando o próximo passo. Nada de trilha épica guiando emoções. Apenas a insistência do cursor piscando, esperando que você escreva algo.

E é nesse gesto simples — digitar uma palavra — que tudo se transforma.

A mecânica é minimalista: você pesquisa termos, acessa pequenos trechos de depoimentos gravados, e cada nova palavra-chave abre uma fresta diferente do passado. Não há progressão tradicional; há escavação. O jogo não se move — quem se move é o jogador. Cada vídeo não é uma cena que conduz a outra, mas um fragmento que exige associação. O sentido não está dado; ele precisa ser montado.

O uso do FMV, nesse contexto, é menos uma escolha nostálgica e mais uma decisão formal radical. O rosto humano filmado — seus silêncios, microexpressões, pausas, desvios de olhar — torna-se campo de interpretação. Diferentemente da animação digital, aqui o corpo carrega ambiguidades reais, quase documentais. A câmera fixa, a iluminação neutra, o enquadramento simples: tudo reforça a sensação de que estamos diante de algo bruto, não dramatizado. E, ainda assim, cada detalhe vibra como indício.

O mistério não é apenas narrativo; é performático. A verdade parece sempre escorregar entre o que é dito e o que é omitido. A repetição de certos termos revela obsessões. A escolha das palavras revela estratégias. O jogador começa a perceber que investigar é também interpretar linguagem. O banco de dados se torna um labirinto sem mapa, e cada busca é um ato de montagem.

Há algo quase arqueológico na experiência. Como se estivéssemos escavando um passado que resiste à transparência. O sistema não recompensa com clareza; recompensa com complexidade. Não existe um momento claro de “agora entendi tudo”. Existe, em vez disso, um acúmulo gradual de suspeitas, conexões e pequenas epifanias. O jogo confia na inteligência do jogador — e mais do que isso, confia em sua paciência.

O mais fascinante é como mecânica e narrativa se tornam inseparáveis. A história não poderia existir fora dessa estrutura fragmentada. A própria forma do jogo encarna a natureza elusiva da memória e da verdade. Buscar palavras é buscar versões. Assistir novamente ao mesmo trecho sob nova luz é reinterpretar um acontecimento. A interatividade aqui não é ação física, mas ação intelectual.

No fim, o que se experimenta não é apenas a resolução de um mistério, mas a construção ativa de uma narrativa. Não somos conduzidos; conduzimos. Não seguimos pistas pré-organizadas; criamos nossos próprios caminhos dentro do arquivo. O cursor piscando na tela deixa de ser um detalhe funcional e passa a ser símbolo da própria experiência: a verdade depende do que você decide perguntar.

The initial investigation, then discovering the twist and how deep the rabbit hole goes, is an amazing sensation. Piecing it together feels incredible. Genuinely sat with my mouth open when I realized what was going on.

That said: the pace fizzles out really quickly after that. I still have questions left to answer, but finding new information became a boring slog of typing in random words hoping to strike something, *anything*. It's really dragged down by the presence of a lot of filler clips, where all she does is ask for a cup of tea. I've only found about 75% of clips, but the well feels dry. Maybe I'm missing something big, but I've run out of patience.

UPDATE: Unlocked all the achievements, about to watch all the recordings in chronological order through the files in my PC or with the help of *the internet* for the final complete understanding of what happened.

Terrific game.

p.s. I'm really glad it was this good, because first the videos wouldn't play on my Macbook, then I got Crossover, and the videos wouldn't play there either but because of a different issue, so I had to free up 20+ GB of storage to install Windows 11 through Parallels for this game only. A lot of hoops, but totally worth it!

This game has a pretty cool and original way to let the player explore the story, which I had not seen before. It's up to the player to piece the different fragments (in the form of clips of different interrogation videos) of the story together and make sense of what happened. You are led merely by your own curiosity and intuition.
The fact that the search results are limited to the first 5 videos forces the player to really pay attention to the clips and think about what keywords to search next. And it's so satisfying when you manage to find a new clip and when that new video reveals new information that helps you piece it all together and make sense of this fragmented story.
I just wish that there was a better way to bookmark clips and that the acting was less cringeworthy and more realistic (it does not resemble the way people typically behave when they are under interrogation for a murder).
All in all, I see it as a very interesting and inspiring experiment and it makes me curious to explore similar titles.

Fun way to unfold a story and give everyone a unique experience of going through the game.

I'm not a huge fan of games that are random or procedurally generated, as while that gives everyone their own gameplay experience, that experience can't be optimized. So, when I played this game and saw how it unfolded differently for each player, I wondered how it might ruin the experience for some while astounding others.

It worked, as it's just navigating the clips in semi-random order with certain clips being hidden so you can't randomly get the big reveal ones until you see everything else. So, the randomness isn't a big deal. There's a lot of "small talk" kinds of clips that just help you get a feel for the environment, the character, and the situation. It works well in that you go from not knowing what's going on to putting the pieces together to the big discovery that gives you that "wow" moment. It works well. There are many clips, so you might want to pace yourself through this game and not play it all at once so as to not get a little tired of it in one sitting, but it's very good.

The Positives:
-I am a sucker for FMV games. In the classics, there were essentially two types: FMVs where you had to hit buttons at the right time (famous in the Sega CD era like Night Trap and Sewer Shark), and FMVs within adventure games that played clips to give you exposition or story beats (e.g., 7th Guest, Myst, Phantasmagoria). This was a new spin on the genre where it's basically just video clips navigated in a Windows-like interface and you uncover more videos to uncover more of the story. I like this variation, though it does switch it from a game to more of an interactive video experience (closer to more of the interactive movies like Late Shift, but still a different sub-genre than that).

-The acting is good. The actress really did a great job of telling the story, acting as if she were in those situations, and giving the story personality (I can't say more without spoiling the story, but you'll know what this means if/when you play it).

-I really enjoy these games that innovate on the interface where this game is a simulation of navigating police video records. I love playing a game with a completely different experience like that.

-The end of the story, in my opinion, makes it worth playing.

The Negatives:
-It's interesting, but you have to like watching the videos that aren't directly feeding you a plot point. It got a little tedious when you have enough video clips where new ones are less frequent but not all of them. Searching for those last few is rougher than finding the last collectibles in an open-world game because it's the same clips over and over looking around.

-If you play games for gameplay, this isn't it. It's more of an interactive experience. I enjoyed it, but I do admit that there are a lot of clips. I thought maybe it was just me, but I'm playing Immortality now and am enjoying some aspects of that more where they let you fast-forward, rewind, etc. and there's more stuff going on along with things to click on in the clips. Repeating clips feels less tedious than Her Story.

Overall, I enjoyed it. The ending made it worth it. While they probably could've made the game shorter with fewer clips or somehow made it a little easier to find the final ones to avoid repeats, I think it works for the most part. It's one of the few games I've played where I didn't think that randomness was a detriment to the game. Procedurally-generated games typically have a bunch of filler or weird difficulty spikes and such, whereas this game, other than possibly making uncovering all the clips more or less difficult, just has story elements unfold in a unique way every time. Would it be better if it were more structured? I don't know. But, for once, I didn't think it was a lot worse for it like other games where I just want to experience the story you wanted to tell rather than randomize how it's told. I recommend the game and applaud the creators for experimenting with the medium. I appreciate how FMV went from campy adventure and button-pressing-memorization games to real stories where you move the story forward with your actions. This is a great example of how FMV went from a silly B-movie feel to a serious genre. Definitely worth a try if you like interactive storytelling.

Reads like a proof of concept more than a full game, which is in no way a bad thing. Something about combing through archival footage feels akin to necromancy, the disturbing of what has been still. The brevity here works against the game somewhat (once you figure out the Thing Going On everything falls into place incredibly quickly and you just slam words until the game says you win), but I still enjoyed my time.

The main game mechanic of typing and being able to view the first 5 video results is an engaging way of exploring a story. A name is being spoken, you search for that name, a location is mentioned, you search for it and so on until a mental picture of the story starts forming. The issues emerge when there are gaps you cannot naturally fill because some videos are just a couple of seconds containing simple sentences. The navigator tool even shows this during an interrogation with just yes/no answers. I can see how that can be unsatisfying towards the end, especially if you've figured out the major twists.
So on game-play alone, this would not be a good game and, as someone amusingly stated, there is a better game in the recycle bin of the virtual computer.

The story though makes it all worthwhile. Even after quickly figuring out the major plot twist, the acting and little details made exploring Her Story interesting. It is the unseen elements which are reflected in the manners of speech, the gestures, the details and especially the contradictions which make the tedious exploration rewarding. For me, figuring out the major twist made the consistencies and inconsistencies become an inside joke and a shared secret for which the game is fully worth it.

The ambiguous ending fits the structure and story very well, though it might not be everyone's cup of tea. Some might find it bitter while some might find it sweet, if you know what I mean.

UGH. You know when a game is good? Really good? And it's *this close* to being great, but is *just shy* of greatness, and it hurts almost more than if it'd just been a solid game?

That's this game for me.

It is such a cool proof of concept. I can see why it won so many awards, and inspired so many projects (Notably, Sam Barlow's two successor projects, Telling Lies and Immortality)... But, I'm left looking forward to those more than I am reflecting on this.

The game starts on a promisingly vague premise. You are using a clunky database on a 1999 computer to interface with old 1994 recordings of a series of police interviews with a mysterious woman. These interviews, which are roughly 2 hours altogether (maybe a little more), are chopped up into 271 shorter clips, which you can browse 5-at-a-time by searching for words contained within them. A readme file on the desktop indicates that a friend got you access to these files through the British equivalent of a FOIA request, although your interest in them is left unknown, and only revealed at the end of the game.

From there, the game suggests a first keyword to try searching: MURDER, which brings up four clips from four separate interviews, each with their own hints and suggestions of words you could search for to learn more...

The core gameplay is unraveling a mystery nonlinearly, learning about the characters involved and what happened between them, by chasing threads of information across multiple interviews rather than viewing each interview as a whole. It's a really solid idea, carried by some awesome design choices (the imposed "limitations" of the archive system make it difficult to unravel any single event in order, but easy to ricochet from interview to interview, and subplot to subplot).

So what holds it back?... I don't think it's a spoiler to say that there are "twists" in the story, but there's a BIG ONE that can be discovered at any time due to the game's nonlinear nature. Due to an unlucky set of queries, I found it EARLY. This completely sapped the thrill of the mystery. Instead of launching into each new subplot with a hunger to learn more, I spoiled myself barely 15 minutes in. This turned the gameplay from a thrilling set of related mysteries into a book I'd read and remembered in broad strokes, but had its pages all out of order, and now I simply had to sort them.

It doesn't help that it's a kind of "twist" that I'm very familiar with, and that I REALLY don't like.

And that is my other critique. The plot is a STELLAR video game plot for 2015. But it's JUST SHY of being something that really soars without the condescension of calling it "good *for a video game.*"

On reflection, I think maybe my core gripe is that the game had such a great concept, but stumbled trying to cram a linear story into a non-linear puzzle shaped box. With a few tweaks to the gameplay formula and a plot that capitalizes on its format better, this could be an unmatched artistic experience, and I am excited to try Telling Lies and Immortality and see where this Desktop Thriller genre has gone since and continues to go!

I know I have been negative for most of this review, but I stand by what I said: It's a REALLY GOOD game. Viva Seifert gives a wonderful performance, filled with emotional moments, surprises, and even original live music. The plot is, in my opinion, a little cheesy, but solid made-for-tv drama. The clunky, query-based mystery solving is a fantastic concept that keeps the player engaged--at least at the beginning! It is, without a doubt and without qualification, the best narrative FMV game I have played yet, and it gives me hope for the genres of Desktop Simulators and FMV Adventures alike!

This iteration just hasn't quite reached the heights I fully believe the genre can achieve.

For $10, you have no reason not to pick it up if you're at all curious. Since I have not played any of the FMV games that have come out since (Telling Lies, Immortality, Not For Broadcast, Blippo+, or other desktop mysteries like Orwell, The Roottrees are Dead, Unheard, Type Help, etc.), I can't recommend any of them over this originator (or at least early iteration) of the genre, since I don't know yet what lessons they've carried into their own projects. What I can say is that this experience has seriously whet my appetite for those other experiences, and I encourage anyone thinking about this game to look at those as well.

Digiti un termine nel database della polizia e il sistema ti restituisce brevi spezzoni dell’interrogatorio di una donna coinvolta in un caso di omicidio. Tutto il gioco sta lì, nell’ascoltare, interpretare, dubitare.
La genialità è nel meccanismo. Non esiste ordine cronologico, non esiste soluzione guidata. Sei tu a ricostruire la verità collegando dettagli, contraddizioni, pause, espressioni. Più che risolvere puzzle, impari a osservare una persona. Ogni nuova parola chiave apre piste diverse e ti rende parte attiva dell’indagine.
La recitazione regge l’intero progetto e funziona: naturale, ambigua, mai teatrale. Il gioco vive sul confine tra realtà e menzogna e non ti dà mai conferme definitive. Proprio questo è il suo punto forte, ma anche il limite: non tutti accettano un’esperienza dove la conclusione dipende dalla tua interpretazione più che da una soluzione oggettiva.
La durata varia molto, perché dipende da quanto vuoi approfondire. Meccanicamente è quasi inesistente, ma concettualmente è tra gli esperimenti narrativi più riusciti degli ultimi anni.
Non è un gioco tradizionale, è un’indagine mentale.

プレイ時間は２～５時間位。再プレイを想定してない作り。チュートリアルなし。

内容はパッケージされたゲームではなくて、ひとつの動画をぶつ切りにして、断片から全体像を推測する内容。エンディングらしいものがなく、最後に感想を聞かれて終わり。辞め時は、選択肢もないので、ひたすらぶつ切りされた動画を見て、自分が辞め時と思った時が区切り。
ただ、動画も有限なので、一定割合に達したらスタッフロールを選べるようになる。
私はギリお勧めしないに分類した。理由は分岐もなく断片的な話を見てるだけで、つなぎ合わせる作業が性に合わなかったから。
※背景を無視するなら画面外にメモ帳を用意して時系列で議事録作りするとあっさり終わってしまう。

改善点は、没入感がないので、重要な動画を見た時は「事実のみ」を要約するクリップを生成したり、画像から関係性等をメモできる様な親切設計を作ってもよいのではないのかなと思いました。現状はぶつ切り動画を見せられて、一過性の面白い感情だけでを終わってしまう。

I personally really enjoyed this game. However, I have to warn you that the story requires a suspension of disbelief.

This game is a kind of modern fable set in the 90s. The thing is, since it's all made of film footage, you don't expect it to lean a bit towards magical realism, but it does. The story is good, just not realistic. Or at least, it prioritizes the poetic over the plausible.

It reminds me a bit of Bong Joon-ho's film Parasite, or some cases from Ace Attorney.

If you're comfortable with a story that feels like a slightly whimsical true crime tale, you'll really like it.

プレイヤーができるのはキーワードを入力し、それに関連する映像を見ていくことだけ。
証拠を突き付けたり、犯人を逮捕したりはしない。
どんな事件だったのか、なぜ事件は起こったのか、映像の女性は何者なのかをただ知って納得していく。

プレイ中は仕事で文献調査をしているような気分だった。
手探りで始めて、少しずつ理解が深まり、「そうか、そういうことだったのか。」と静かな満足感を得る。
少々作業的であり、やれることが少ないため人によっては退屈と感じるゲームかも。

探偵ゲームの調査パートが好きな人はきっと気に入ると思います。
早い人なら2時間くらいで真相にたどり着けるので、手軽にミステリーを味わいたい人にオススメです。

It doesn't matter if the game is good or not, if you can't play it and steam doesn't refund the game. The game opens but the videos don't play. I tried everything but nothing works, it seems to be a pretty common problem with the game. Why sell a game that you can't play and can't fix? It seems very greedy.

maybe i'm too inquisitive or untrustworthy but this game dissapointed me with how quickly i found "the main secret" it is trying to hide. This led me down a rabbithole thinking that there was something deeper i didnt fully grasp yet but instead i only got more confirmation of the knowledge i already knew.

I feel like this aimless searching could have been avoided if there was more of a why i am looking through these tapes or more interactions from the stranger over messages instead of seemingly arbitrarily going "do you feel satisfied with what you found?"

But the mystery is there, there are alot of strands you can follow and the story it is trying to tell is atleast decent, so it is worth to give it a shot. I just personally didnt enjoy it.

This game was pretty enjoyable, especially if you’re into true crime stories like I am. I found it pretty interesting to gather clues and search for each one rather than using the quick cheat of just typing in “blank” as many people suggested. It was pretty quick to get through and wasn’t super complicated so definitely more interesting and unique than challenging or exciting. Arguably the most challenging part of the game was getting the “even score” on the mini game in the recycle bin, but I would highly recommend if you’re just looking for a quick and simple game with an interesting storyline.

Again, I wish Steam has a middle option aside from Yes or No. Her Story is all about checking a database of video clips about interrogating a woman. Listen to her and gather possible information in the database, that is all. If you love detective work and watching interrogations I guess you'll be ok with this. But if you prefer the classic point and click style, this is not for you.

I really got into the story for this one. So much so that I actually went back after initially finishing the game and watched the rest of the videos. The storytelling is *really* in depth, like to the point of re-watching video clips and saying "OOOOHHH" for a lot of things. And that ending? Loved it. I got it on sale and I don't mind the price for the four hours of enjoyment I got out of it this evening.

decent detective game, the story was cool to unlock and the premise was really interesting. got a little monotonous trying every word i could think of to unlock all of the clips. would really only recommend picking this game up on sale, but is good for a few hours of detecting. i reealllyyy wish the ending was better, though, since it just kind of.... ends. i was expecting to be quizzed about some of the stuff i learned or something of that matter, but instead was just taken to the credits which felt very sudden.

In the beginning you take notes, a lot of them, if you are brazilian and watched Fernanda Montanegro`s movie As Gemes (The Twins) you basically gets immediately 90% of whats hapenning there.
The videos are too short, cropped in a way that is not even possible to tag in order to catalog, it makes no sense. This makes the game a sleeping but creative game since you can jump to the conclusions you want since it fits in all facts you have on your note.
I gave up taking notes in the middle of it and just opened and closed the videos not watching anymore because that's awfully useless clues most of it. Than I went after the achievements because I really gave up on the game. Anyway, I recomend anyway to watch this movie, The Twins, (brrazil) it has around 60 min only and with the actress fernanda montenegro this becomes a masterpiece which i am almost sure the creator had access to, ther's no other explanation to such similarity hahah its ok an old movie ,it's absolute cinema for the time it was launched, and has the most fittable answer story for this game.

At least the achievements are really reachable, i d be severely, tremendously mad if not even the achievements could be done with such a.... bit of non sense, bit of puzzle but definitively not one since it has no directions and a puzzle has directions and you have to solve one problem by one problem to go to next phase.
so it's a different dinamic.
particuly, i would never buy it unless it s for sale for like cents of dolalrs or next to 1 dollar, maximum. I was gifted by a friend, so, different circunstances. i will never get used to free dinamics like this, i dont get used to this and just give up too easily on this kind of dinamic with no clues, no nothing. just open world, open investigation with nothing, and in the end we dont even know exactly how the muder was commited and by whom (my understanding: it was both the twins after figurig out he had an affair with someone new out of them two). one single or still better: showing 2 or 3 different mini movies about the possible stories in the end of the game would make players feel rewarded. I don't feel rewarded except for having all the achievements, which is much more a steam feature thanks-to than to the game.

Buy only IN SALE, SALE AS FU6K , NOT A SIMPLE ONE, A HUGE DISCOUNT
I recommend as a game to relax but just that, totally mechanical, you START thinking you have an investigation to do, take notes etc and ACTUALLY is just a MECHANICAL AUTOMATIC THING with back and forths and for real, nothing to really think and that's it. I recommend BUT with those very specific conditions.

I ll never get used to open worlds this much. that's a sin. I know it's somehow magical, but the thing just do not captivate me. Sorry.
