Great SHMUPS game.
This game has many variables for you to explore in this game. Lots of weapon combination, the way how levels change depend on your performance, and subtle depths of when and how you use weapons which encourage the player to discover the most optimal way to play that comfort the player the most.

yeah, im not gonna waste my time on this lmao. screen size wasn't working except in tiny window mode, and then asking me to read a novel with the worst font possible before even playing is pretty lame, and finally, it requires me to go into steam big picture mode which then throws my programs over to my second monitor like what the heck is this game doing.
Once you get past the initial hurdle that's the steep learning curve right at the beginning (reading the manual/a guide is practically mandatory), it becomes one of the most enjoyable and rewarding STGs of all time. A true masterpiece.

Extremely unique shooter that anyone who likes these kind of games really should try. The game is rather opaque with how the mechanics work and there is a lot of depth within them but once you get used to it it's really not that bad especially if you pick Minogame who is pretty overpowered. Really good game.

John Cage, in 4’33”, shifts the channel of communication to the environment and the receiver themselves, transforming the act of listening into a meditative experience. But what if we did the opposite? What if the channel were, so to speak, flooded—if sound dominated everything so completely that the receiver ceased to recognize themselves?
Noise, or more precisely Harsh Noise, has often been dismissed as a joke. Imagining music so overwhelming that it stifles even one’s own thoughts may seem absurd. And yet, that is precisely where the enchantment of listening lies—for example, in Decrescendo by The Gerogerigege. The experience of not hearing oneself, of feeling solely and exclusively the substance of sound, becomes one of the most serene states. It is no coincidence that listeners of Merzbow rarely describe his art as explosive; rather, they glimpse in it a moment of pure stillness.
It is through this same logic that I perceive the beauty of so-called Bullet Hell games. Trying to play Hellsinker by observing every detail on the screen, devising strategies, or analyzing enemy design—common gestures in other games—proves here to be a complete failure.
The only way to survive is to focus attention exclusively on one's own character and the most immediate threats; any attempt to grasp anything beyond that may mean death—and in games where one death costs an entire run.
The truth is that Shmups are as meditative as Pulse Demon. There is not a minute available to reflect on anything else. Only surrendering to a cathartic experience, in pursuit of a constant balance until the final moment of the run.

You're going to bounce off of this like it's a brick wall at first.
This game is initially so obtuse and vague about even the simplest of things such as what basic game settings even mean, much less parsing the visual noise and figuring out what you should even be focusing on or doing. You'll need a tutorial for the tutorial and the manual will make you forget the words you're reading are English.
And yet, at it's core, Hellsinker is genuinely not that complicated.
Once you can parse through all the noise and figure out what the game actually wants you to do and how to interact with it, everything clicks like magic. I never understood people who said it took them a while to "get" Dark Souls, but when you GET Hellsinker it feels like waking up from the Matrix. Next thing you know, you're having DBZ Beam Clashes with the de-limbed torso of a mechanical hydra or taking out battlecruisers so massive they extend the length of the whole level. 'Hellsinker' is not a game, its the feeling you get when you're trying to figure out how to dodge an endless barrage of homing missiles before realizing that you were never supposed to dodge them but rather crush each and every one of them with your bare hands before they can even hit you. It's realizing that the Shrine of Farewell isn't your per-playthrough dose of humiliation as you get repeatedly kicked in the balls by the creator's old RP OCs, but rather a place to be bold and risky and stress test yourself with no consequences and more extra lives to gain the more you can impress your godlike tormentors. It's recognizing those projectiles from the tutorial as the kind you can break with your normal shot and therefore the only way out is through.

A fascinatingly weird shmup, with some of the strangest character abilities I've ever seen and a scoring system I still don't understand at all. It's charmingly homemade, inspiringly ambitious, and oozing with some very particular y2k sub-aesthetic.
I think probably the best way to approach this is to dive in and flail around for a couple hours in the cryptic chaos, then read the Actual Manual (an html file in the game's install folder, with an English version available, which actually explains nearly everything), then choose a character to get serious with, then reconsider your choice of main once you can reliably get to stage 5.
I think I'd only recommend this to people who have like... Adopted The Lifestyle, with regard to shmups. But if that's you, yeah play it. It's unique.

Te bombardea con información y balas desde el tutorial.
No hay nada ortodoxo acá. Tiene mecánicas y estilos de juego hasta para hacer guiso: tiros comunes, melee cargado a corta distancia, drone que podes mandar en la dirección que quieras, usar ese mismo dron para disparar con autoaim y un largo etcétera sólo con el personaje y configuración default. En total son cuatro personajes jugables.
Tus tres botones de ataque tienen distintas propiedades en función de si los tocás, tapeas, mantenés apretados o incluso si los tocás en conjunto con otros botones/flechas. Hay muchas estrategias y técnicas para explorar, hasta incluye un modo práctica. Muchísima libertad para el jugador.
Rápido, explosivo, poco ortodoxo, opresivo y único en su especie.

Beginner tips:
* You are going to be confused when you start playing, and that's normal. In the launcher, there's a button labelled "Open instruction folder" ([url=https://mikomiko.org/files/hellsinker/]mirrored here[/url]). Read it. You might not understand all of it, but you'll learn.
* 730's [url=https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1846827823]beginner guide[/url] on the community hub is absolutely worth reading and will make the game accessible way faster. A lot of this stuff took us years to reason about back in the day, so it's a real boon (thank you 730).
* There is a new launcher that solves a number of technical problems other negative reviews have.
* If you have resolution woes, in the launcher go "Info augmentation" -> check "window maximize".
* If you are on KDE and the borderless window isn't centered correctly, you can drag it with Meta+Left Click.
* Unlike traditional STGs, in Hellsinker your bomb requires an offensive resource (SOL) and is a high powered attack in itself. Most defensive maneuvers in Hellsinker are good, but come with a catch.
* The BGM is great. If you get tired of the in-game BGM, I often play to Enrico Sangiuliano's fantastic album [url=https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mBJ1cX42kvA3P0UD5UiOTf6o_XAUKr1Q4]Biomorph[/url]. It just hits right.
* I think the "Display backgrounds as wireframe" option is nice but I wouldn't start with it on.
* Note: My Steam hour count is wildly inaccurate as I've been playing on/off since the C72 release. I only recently switched to this version (proton & cloud saving are so good, and the game works surprisingly nicely on steam deck). It's the type of game you can come back to for years and still enjoy.

I see many clown awards given to negative reviews for this game, which shows it has a diehard fanbase who refuse to see the product from a neutral standpoint, so I will just write what to expect upon purchase;
Right out of the box, you will get a launch window which gives you numerous options to tinker with before jumping into the game. Some of these are self explanatory, while some are technical graphic options like Anti Alias types, resolution options (which you need to change property settings in windows to even show as an option), a lot of unexplained check boxes, then a tab to show or turn off ingame details which are not explained again, and will need to refer to external resources to find out what they do (and even then not everything is clear). I have wrote all this to say, expect to tinker and experiment for however long it takes before actually getting to play the game. This was the first barrier of entry.
Then you run the game and find the ingame UI is quite challenging to read, specifically the font used; V looks like a L for some reason, and many of the font are challenging to read. On top of this, the game has decided to create and use Jargons for common terms, further creating confusion which further adds layers of 'strange' factor due to the Engrish vocab used as jargon + Engrish explanations to define those jargon. The game really takes you for a ride as it provides ingame manual of sorts, with background story cryptic as your ex girlfriend's logic only further embracing confusion as English translations are as Engrish as they come.
I will not mention much about the gameplay itself, other than seeing many people saying tutorial was too hard, and it is (10.2% achievement); During my 2 hour gameplay time, I was able to clear the tutorial and was surprised to see it gave several steam achievements for doing so. It took several tries but it was definitely doable. This is not why I gave this game a thumbs down however.
The reason for not recommended is because 1. It has a barrier of entry even prior to playing the game (tinkering and research for simplest things like better resolution + fullscreen/reading material which you would need to come back to, to fully grasp) 2. The quality (translation) of that same reading material is @$$ due to jargon used (if you could even call it that) and Engrish description to explain what those jargon meant 3. UI choice probably is deliberate but is still another barrier of entry. 4. Despite the game description saying there is an online leaderboard the only one I could find was a local one.
If you can deal with all of the above, and still have patience left to delve into the gameplay and its mechanics, you probably should be doing something other than playing videogames but for most I think a refund would suffice.
One of the coolest games I've played, it has a bit of a learning curve at the start with how odd the UI and some of the mechanics can be, but once things start to click it feels incredible.
Buy it with the soundtrack, you won't regret it.
I've barely scratched the surface myself since I haven't played Hellsinker in over a decade, but its by far one of my favorites for the sheer complexity of its systems and how this diverges between how every character plays. Like if I were to describe everything mechanically I'd probably be submitting an essay instead of a review.
Hellsinker is probably the definition of obtuse and downright psychotic at face value, hell I found the tutorial more difficult than stage 4 somehow lol, but its a game that really gives you the tools, settings, and practice you need to full understand its complexities to truly appreciate how everything wraps together. The main thing you may find insanely jarring about this game is its UI and font choices, but there's so many tutorials in game as well as online that you'll definitely gain a grasp of what everything means/represents.
I might be terrible at it, but its a favorite despite it all. Once it clicks it really clicks it barely feels like a shmup at all and more of a combo meter management game.
Should be mentioned as well, this is a decently complex game, if you're completely inexperienced at shmups I would hold off on making this a first.

This is a maximalist Shmup for shmup fans. There are a LOT of mechanics and scoring items and power-ups. It takes a while to enjoy it and you will likely need guides, but once you start figuring out the game's rhythm and pace, you'll come to appreciate its complexities and the sensory overload. Great music too!

I first encountered this game from a bundle a long, long time ago. What made me choose to play it when it wasn't even the game I was buying the bundle for? I can't say.
What awaited me was one of the most bizarre yet fascinating experiences I've had with a game, let alone a SHMUP.
Just when you think you've finally understood how to play it, another layer reveals itself, and your mind reels at just how deep this game goes. Noticing the way the Continue system works. Learning how to control the Shrine of Farewell through TERRA. Unlocking the BEHIND/LEAD variants. Finally avoiding Rex Cavalier's memory transfer. And with each bit of progress, the main menu changes into a new form. You practically feel like an archeaologist piecing it all together, run after run.
The micro level is practically as fascinating as the macro level, with loads of very interesting and unique characters to play as, all with their own esoteric movesets, such as Minogame's focus on melee attacks and invulnerability fields, or Dead Liar's charged sword slash which can be charged to such a degree to conceivably one-shot a boss, as long as you keep it held for the entire level. There's so many mechanics to utilize as well which promote all sorts of strategies, such as how you can SEAL an enemy with proximity, or how you can slow down enemy bullets with your Suppression Radius as long as you hold your fire.
There are a lot of games with tearjerker stories, but nothing brings tears to my eyes more than thinking about the developers behind this game, how hard they worked in adding so much to this, so much that most people probably won't ever encounter, won't ever even scratch the surface of. How'd they do it?
I haven't even beaten it yet. It's my white whale.
Oh, and the soundtrack is amazing.

難易度：ランク制 プレイ中にリアルタイムで難易度補正がかかります。
倒れずにいると少しずつ上がりますが、クリアまでに20機くらい残機を稼げるのでいっぱい倒れながら進みましょう。
敵の攻撃は激しいですがそれ以上に操作キャラクターが強いので、
ステージを覚える又は避けることより「機体の操作を使い分ける事」が一番求められます。
無限リソースから弾消しと無敵を使って、使えない間は遅延バリアと弾消しや封印を使って攻撃をしのぐゲーム性です。
ただその機体の操作がボタンがやたら多くて(3ボタン)、ゲージも沢山あって意味が分からないのがこのゲームの悪いところです。
お勧めできる理由
BGMが良い(40曲もある)、演出が良い、18年たった今でもやりごたえのある完成度
思い出補正がかなりかかっているので参考にしないでください。
今時はもしかしたらもっといいゲームがあると思いますがどうしても語りたかったので許してください

I was kinda afraid of playing Hellsinker. because of how crazy people had made it seem. Even some of the positive reviews saying that it is "dodonpachi may cry" were a little scary, but there really is no other way to describe it. It is pure bullet hell, there is no two ways about it. But you have attack combinations and all of the tools you need to pierce through it. Who, how, and where? You can make it work.
The presentation is to die for. The thrill, truly exhillarating. The surprises it keeps up it's sleeves keeps things fresh.

Читать километровый гайд, чтобы освоить пятичасовую игрушку, — полный маразм. До геймплея я в итоге добрался, но в этом шмапе нельзя зажать кнопку, чтобы персонаж стрелял всё время. Извините, для артрита в мой 31 год всё-таки рановато.
В общем, игра технически непригодна для использования ни с клавомыши, ни с геймпада, а интерфейс и вовсе повергает меня в ужас. Тупopылые азиаты не изменяют себе: всё делают через жoпу. В современном мире, полном тревожных событий, приятно встретить хоть что-то стабильное... но тратить время на эту россыпь пикселей в попытках получить от неё удовольствие всё равно что совать пальцы в уксус.

This is one of the greatest games you've likely never heard of, a true classic of the Bullet-Hell genre.
It has a lot going on, plenty of obtuse mechanics and strange quirks of its own to be managed, but if you can power through some rough opening hours, it becomes something truly unique and additionally, one of the most fun shmups of all time.
Would recommend it full-price, and on sale it's pretty much stealing at that point
If Devil May Cry was a shmup it would be Hellsinker
equal parts blessing and curse. the most esoteric shooter in known space. use a guide to learn basic menu stuff and then explore your psyche and reflexes until you are who you were born to be.

Hellsinker is a mess. Genuinely nauseating UI with an incomprehensible font. An awful and nonsensical translation. A dozen different mechanics vying for attention, but only a few of them matter. Frustrating, annoying bosses that are a chore to beat. And the soundtrack isn't even that good.
Hellsinker is a frustrating, confusing experience where any good points are buried under a mountain of obtrusive clutter. If someone says this is a good game for beginners, they are lying to you. If you spent thousands of hours playing STGs and have run out of options, then you might have fun with this. For everyone else, I would recommend you avoid this game.

Hellsinker is a game that gives you a surprisingly large moveset for a Japanese shoot-em-up. You have a typical machine gun on your main shot, but you can charge it for a single-target sword swing, but you also have your subweapon that throws out a turret that shoots piercing bullets back to you, but you can get a stronger version of that turret by not firing your main weapons and an alternate version if you hold the button down... and there are 3 characters to play as. and they all play completely differently. And you can unlock 4 more.
That alone makes the game super replayable. Bouncing between characters keeps the early levels feeling fresh, and when coming back to a character you might find a use for a move you'd been forgetting or a better combo to handle specific situations.
I haven't done a full clear of the game or seen the final boss, the later levels do get quite tough, and you only get 1 continue, but Hellsinker somehow manages to not feel overwhelming. The enemy patterns are often slower and less intense than I've seen in other games, and while there's a lot of small details in the scoring and extra life systems it's the kind of stuff that sits in the background and you don't need to know about it for the game to function. You're free to focus on your own abilities and moves, which makes you feel in control.
If you're willing to learn the controls and read the manual for details on each character's moveset, Hellsinker is likely one of the most interesting and engaging shooters you'll find.
This is such a strange and fun shoot-em-up. If you're in the mood for something really unique, I recommend it fully.

購入者の大半がチュートリアルで投げてるゲームが到達形だというなら、そりゃSTGというジャンルが廃れるわけだな。
難解なゲームシステムであるにもかかわらず、とにかく説明が分かり難く変なフォントで文字も読みづらく理解させようという気が感じられない。
数時間遊んでシステムを理解すればとてつもなく面白いというレビューをよく見るが、この説明の手抜きぶりは面白さを語る以前の問題。
結局このゲームは、独自のセンスを押し付けたいがために、分かりやすさと遊びやすさ、画面の見やすさなど大事な部分の作りこみを放棄したゲーム制作の素人が作ったクソゲーという結論。
絶対におすすめしません。

Incredibly beautiful and soulful game made by strange people for the strange person who loves shoot em ups. Don't be intimidated by the weird language - the gameplay is actually quite straightforward and unbelievably varied for a shmup title.
It's enough that at some point you'll realize something is wrong while playing a character equipped with guided weapons and intangibility and suddenly remember you're actually still supposed to be using your bullet dodging skills. A couple of characters can even be considered to be melee characters. Genuinely one of the most creative games ever made and might represent peak shoot em up. Has extremely sexy music, extremely extremely sexy. The only track I don't like is the first boss theme.
There's some major compatibility issues for the Proton/Linux version - the game is essentially unplayable past stage 4 and there is major issues with text not working - at some points the screen gets covered in black and white boxes. It's no use using Proton hotfix or specific versions, I'm guessing it may be a wine libraries issue since some of the issues are reminiscent of visual novel errors on wine.
とにかく画面が見にくい！独特なフォントも相まって（らじおぞんでから変わってない）、何書いてあるのかわからない。せめてわかりやすいインターフェースにしてくれ。また尖がった仕様にしているのは意図的なんだろうけど、「敵」を「的」とか当て字にするのはやめてくれ。読みにくいったらありゃしない。そしてチュートリアルくらい気持ちよくこなさせてくれ。妙に耐久力が低いから延々とノルマクリアできなくてイライラする。ま、ここの二度と買わないからどうっでもいいけど。

this puts modern indie games to shame, no corny dialog, good visuals, crazy mechanics that make it stand out, challenging and interesting level design, and fast paced gameplay, this THAT REAL SHTTT

Over the past ~5-6ish months this game has held an iron grip on my brain and my free time. I love [i]Hellsinker.[/i] probably more than whatever constitutes as healthily enjoying something. [i]Hellsinker.[/i] is an endlessly deep shmup rich in both mechanical gameplay, actual gameplay, and story alike. I'm just entering the 100 hour checkpoint and I can safely say I'm only really half-decent with 1 of the 4 (7?) characters. This marks the 5th time I've made a review on this game. I explored every possible avenue regarding fan content and scraps of what was officially made regarding the game.
[i]Hellsinker.[/i] is a game of learning. Learning, learning, the student will continue to learn until it can learn no longer. Though chances are, that time will never come.
You're given 4 buttons (mainshot, subweapon, bomb, slowdown) and consequently you are provided with some of the most tightly packed complex controls providing the most multifaceted gameplay I've ever seen within a shmup. Everything about the design is intentional yet you're not constrained to playing in any one playstyle. Characters retain a bit of knowledge from loadout to loadout but you will often find yourself confused as if you were playing an entirely different game. The stage layouts are so perfectly designed and tuned to accustom themselves to each character and their playstyles. This game is a masterwork of an indie title.
This game goes on sale for $5 dollars. If you have any shred of interest, please buy this game. I cannot stress enough my love towards the game, its story, and everything revolving around it. Quite simply one of the most tuned and engaging experiences I've had with a game perhaps ever.
My time with 100%ing the game was most certainly one of the most relieving and joyous moments I've had with a video game in far too long of a time. I seriously can't thank whoever enough did the work for getting this game on Steam. A one of a kind title.

確かに、レビューに書いている通りのような感じです。
まず、すぐ死んで意味が分からなすぎるので
マニュアルを見るが何を書いているのかわからない。
普通、こういうゲームは削除するのだが
何故か？もっと調べようと思わざる負えないような気持ちになり
動画をみて初心者講座でやっと少しだけ理解しました。
弾はでるけど、ほぼ、体当たりで敵を倒すちょっとかわったシューティングゲーム
というのが現在までに判明していることです。
そこまで特別夢中になるほどではないけれど
たまにやると、やり方を忘れているような気がして
また、初心者講座をみて確認してから挑戦しています。
でも敵の弾が速いのでくじけそうです。
最近買ったゲームでは、間違いなく一番やっているような気がします。
That was the cruelest tutorial I've ever played. I feel like I just beat a hard souls boss or something. Hopefully I'm ready for the game itself. Really fun mechanics though.

A strange game for strange people. You don't often see such games nowadays - Hellsinker. first came out in 2006, the time when gaming was yet untainted by our modern trends - with smartphones not existing and collective attention span still at an acceptable level.
This game is really difficult to understand. The convoluted plot goes very deep, matched by the amount of gameplay mechanics and abilities of each player character - you have to be born under a certain star to play this game for score. Playing for atmosphere and challenge is the most realistic option, in my opinion - and on that front, the game delivers immensely. The sense of exploration is truly unmatched, with a very special atmosphere enhanced by the game's melancholic soundtrack. The immersion never breaks as you carve your own path with DeadLiar, shoot your way through with Fossil Maiden, or cheese it out with Minogame (pronounced Mi-noh-gah-meh, it's a Japanese name).
DeadLiar is probably the easiest character to understand and use, as well as the only character with in-game dialogue. Problem with the dialogue is that it often happens during intense parts of the game, making it very hard to read and follow while you fight off whatever is in front of you. very good STG. Feels like an infinite chasm of a game, in a good way. Immaculate vibes, creative and dynamic weapons, and strong sense of mystery.
It took me 4 hours to beat the tutorial
Be me. A person who just recently got into shmup/bullet hell genre through Touhou games. Manage to get normal difficulty clears on few games from the series and boast about it online. Get your front door kicked off hinges by one of your acquaintances, screaming about one game that I should definitely check. Apparently it is a favorite of his and it allegedly makes people’s brains swell and explode. Constantly hear about how amazing it is, until gaving in and paying Gaben a toll to entry.
This is how I learned about Hellsinker. This story is [i]slightly[/i] exaggerated for comedy, but parts about game’s quality are 100% accurate truth. [b]This game is truly something else.[/b]
Do not touch it until you have some experience with this genre first thou. Hellsinker is a Madoka Magica of bullet hell games. It is an intelligently designed game that will twist, contort and subvert everything you know. To survive you need to learn your characters like they would be in a fighting game. You need to master abilities that could be considered cheating in any other contemporary title. You need to learn convoluted yet elegant rules that invite unorthodox strategies and gameplay scenarios.
If that wouldn’t be enough: game as a whole is wrapped into onion layers of complications and mysteriousness. Menu options have names that will confuse you. Items you collect have unique effects that aren’t apparent even after few hours of play. Story is positively insane with prose and novel section between levels (sic!). Lore isn’t any less crazy, with nearly overbearing melancholy sprinkled over masterful worldbuilding. To think that a bullet hell game’s story content could be so compelling!
But to tap into all this goodness - you need to be prepared. You definitely need a guide. Either a person who already experienced the game or you reading an official manual booklet which is supplied in the game files. Online guides from the community work as well. There are so many hidden compartments inside this game that that you absolutely need somebody or something that will help you get through multiple awesome-tons of the crazy present here. Thankfully, this is not a insurmountable problem and you should be able to not fry your brain while attempting to understand it all.
After you adjust yourself to Hellsinker’s wavelength, you will be ready to receive your beating. Campaign certainly is not short and it is fairly difficult - but not terribly so. I would say that judging how much fun I had tackling monumental bossfights, I felt like challenge was tuned just right most of the time. Stages are carefully crafted, often times with music perfectly synched to the chaos on the screen. OST does sell a lot of scenes with memorable tunes that ooze atmosphere of dark, sci-fi adventure. Quality of [i]artfulness[/i] is how I would describe most of my impressions while playing.
Are there any issues? Aside that Hellsinker is a very niche product that requires a lot from you? Final boss could be designed a little better. It is a very chaotic fight with unique win conditions that could be considered unclear with an abrupt ending (Advice: Play extra stages after beating the game! They give more of a proper closure). Game’s font is also a bit of a problem. It’s not readable enough and it adds to the game’s convolution a little too much for my liking.
Outside of those nitpicks, this game is [i]really[/i] special. It was designed by people who know their craft. Designed with care and love for the genre while trusting player’s intelligence to unravel it's unique challenges and story. A study of how to transform a genre and make people love video games all over again.

元々横シュー派の人で縦シューは割と苦手ですが、思った以上に楽しく遊べる一品でした。
機体選択が「メニュー画面中、横入力で画面下側の文字が変わる」という、従来のSTGと違って分かりづらい面には注意。
某銀剣のような、ショット入力の仕方で攻撃が変わる系のゲームであるため結構慣れが必要かな？と思う。
弾消し要素はありますが、所謂ボムによる全消しと破壊可能弾を撃って破壊するという２パターン。
ボスにはゴテゴテとパーツが付いていますが、破壊すればするほど難易度が激上がりしていくので平和に終わらせたい時はさっさと本体を撃破してしまいましょう。
Amazing game if you can get into it. The gameplay is engaging and completely unique for a shmup, and what little lore there is is surprisingly interesting. The vibe of this game is very compelling to me, and makes this game really special.
Maybe someday I'll comeback and give this game another chance. But it seems to be my anti-fun shoot 'em up. Everything about it seems to want to induce a headache, and I just had to stop playing. I wanted to get a review written, even with lacking experience with the game, because I don't know when or if I'm coming back. There's too many games these days to have to fight to learn one that I haven't heard much about.
After two games, I found that I was clearly missing something in how to play Hellsinker. Which is strike one against the game for me. I play shmups due to the ease of their pick up an play ability. To be sure, sometimes some mechanics in shooters can be a little cryptic, but few reach the level of really needing the player to go through the tutorial. And most shmups that have tutorials are less than a minute.
Not here in Hellsinker. This game has three different shot types each with differing mechanics, uses, bullet cancels, charge times and I don't know what else. As well as a charged shield thing. On top of rather specialize enemy fighting mechanics. I only made it about 3/4 the way through the tutorial before the CIA interrogation music and barely readable font had my brain crying 'uncle'. I was struggling to focus on just figuring how to get through lesson. I certainly wasn't remembering anything from that visual and audio bombardment in what should be an learning environment. However, credit where credit's due, the game does have the play the tutorial and test them on items it covers. Too many shmups run what is essentially a Powerpoint presentation on how to play.
It's hard for me to believe that such a complex shooter would choose such a hard to comprehend presentation. Again, that font is tough to read. Which if I don't really need to read it, that's fine. I've play Japanese shooters where very little could be read by me. The trouble is Hellskinker is not a simple shooter. And the obtuse font further gets in the way of getting the player ready to play this game.
From what little of the game I've played, it seems fine. Not really understanding how to make use of the weapon, shield and positioning mechanics, I can't comment on much. Beyond the game wants something specific from the player, and it's a struggle to know what that is playing it cold.
I know I'm not giving this game a fair shake. However, my limited experience playing it had me wanting to do just about anything else. I'm not kidding when I say it gave me a headache. Even now, I have that techno-electronica noise scrambling my brain. I want to come back and give Hellsinker a better chance. But I know I'm not going to learn to play it within the game. And I have a lot of other shooters I want to get more hours into before that happens.

難易度について参考までに、私は弾幕STGが好きでよくプレイしますが、とても苦戦しました。裏を返せば特に弾幕STGが苦手でもそこまで不利にはならないということでもあります（たぶん）。このゲームに求められるのは避け力ではなくへるしんか力です。hellsinker.の前ではみな等しく赤子なので、気楽に遊んでください。
Atribuir uma obra como "genial" é algo que eu costumo ter bastante receio de fazer, mesmo com minhas favoritas, mas eu não consigo pensar em um adjetivo melhor para descrever Hellsinker. A primeira vez que abri o jogo, eu me assustei bastante, a prosa é esotérica e confusa, a HUD usa termos nada convencionais, tem milhões de mecânicas não muito bem explicadas que funcionam de forma completamente diferente dependendo do personagem que você escolher, e o jogo exige que você domine cada um deles; os levels te cobram em múltiplas dimensões e você tem que saber usar todas as mecânicas do seu personagem a seu favor para poder otimizar seu dano e se defender eficientemente, além de que é necessário uma administração de recursos, assim cobrando de você também um entendimento profundo da HUD. Porém, eu continuei jogando e entendi a alusão de que Hellsinker é como aprender uma língua nova, vai existir uma barreira inicial, mas aos poucos você vai conseguir ultrapassá-la, até chegar em um ponto em que vai parecer que a barrreira nunca existiu. Depois de horas nesse jogo, eu me sentia em casa, o que antes era confuso, se tornou familiar e eu passei a sentir que as regras do jogo estavam se comunicando precisamente comigo, eu entendia o comportamento de cada bala, eu entendia como eu tinha que responder a cada perigo e entendia o que eu precisava fazer para poder dar mais dano nos inimigos, tudo isso por observação e instinto. E é isso que Hellsinker busca construir com seus sistemas e ludonarrativa, o jogo cobra que o jogador esteja acima das próprias regras impostas a ele, não importa o quão críptico ou difícil tudo possa parecer, através de pura determinação, essa abstração vai ser superada e você vai conseguir alcançar o final.
It's a good shmup. Decently designed playable characters, lots of nooks and crannies in levels. I'd recommend that you have are good at reading weird fonts though, as the font is just awful: Tight spacing, vertically short, and laid over detailed backgrounds, even in menus sometimes.
虽然我给好评，但是也是我最不想推荐出去给别的STG玩家玩的东西(。原因很简单：上手很繁琐，引导极其稀烂（我没想过详细说明要去到游戏文件夹翻找才找到个网页版的详细说明书，而重要的东西却不在游戏里说清楚，必须看书。最糟糕的是哪怕是详细说明书也有相当的东西没说到，比如dead liar的4阶蓄力根本没说到）隐藏内容很多，但是这需要先花非常非常多的时间去熟悉一个机体，换个机体因为系统的独立化又要重新花非常多时间去熟悉，机体方差也是数下来那么多STG之中最大最恐怖的。。打分系统也是说明稀烂，导致想要深入就得看外网的视频，而且看了很多细节的点和处理方式也不好去模仿和理解。
之所以给好评，是因为游戏的基础素质足够高。。但也就仅此而已了，玩起来哪怕上手了，其实也不会有太快乐，跟红莲四羽完全没得比。。设计理念实在是太过于偏激（跟老传统格斗游戏一样），对玩家的个人基础操作要求过分的高，这绝不是大部分人能接受的范畴了，。也就电波对的上的人才会喜欢把，相当于在本来就少的STG玩家里头再细挑提纯一样（捂脸）
